I rolled the car three times and almost died on [XXX]. The airbags did not deploy. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
TAKATA RECALL, AIRBAG
THE HANDLE TO THE HATCH BROKE OFF SO MANY TIMES AFTER PROPERLY BEING REPAIRED WE INSTALLED A STRAP HANDLE TO THE HATCH SO THAT WE ONLY NEED TO TOUCH THE BUTTON AND PULL THE STRAP. THE DAMAGED HANDLE WOULD PREVENT THE HATCH FROM SHUTTING PROPERLY. THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS WILL SUDDENLY BLOW FUSES AND MECHANICS CAN NOT FIND OUT WHY. THIS LEAVES YOU SUDDENLY WITH NO TAIL LIGHTS WHICH HAVE RESULTED IN BEING PULLED OVER MANY TIMES AND A FEW TICKETS. I HAVE TAKEN TO KEEPING THE REPAIR TICKET WITH ME TO AVOID TICKETS AT DAWN AND DUSK. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND CAN NOT SEEM TO FIND WHY THE FUSE IS BLOWING. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING BEFORE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT HAD FIXED MANY TIMES. LAST TIME IT OCCURRED WAS 2 MONTHS AGO.
AER BAG LITE ON DASHBOARD....WORRIED TO EXPLODE AS I ,M DRIVING ??
REAR SUB FRAME WHERE THE REAR AXLE MOUNTING BRACKETS ARE RUST OUT. ALSO SIDE ROCKERS ROT OUT DUE TO POOR DRAINAGE OF PLASTIC SIDE SKIRTS
POWER WINDOWS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HAVE ISSUES; BACK WINDOWS NO LONGER WORKS, FRONT DRIVER SIDE WILL GO UP IN STAGES BUT ONLY IF ACTIVELY MOVING. DRIVER SEATBELT UNLATCHES. BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 5 MONTHS IF NOT LONGER.
ACCIDENT INVOLVED ON HWY TRAVELING 65 -70 MILES, RAINY CONDITIONS, CAR WAS IN MOTION AND SKIDDED A UNKNOWN LENGTH, HITTING THE REAR END OF A STOPPED VEHICLE ON FREEWAY, AND 3X LARGER IN SIZE THAN THE SCION. THE AIR BAG ON DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER HAS SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK, SPINE,LEGS AND CHEST. THERE WAS NOT A PASSENGER. THE SCION HAS BEEN DEEMED TOTALED AT A LOSS. THE INJURIES SUSTAINED WERE DUE TO NOT BEING PROTECTED FROM THE AIRBAG.
05 XB TRUNK RELEASE HANDLE BROKE LOOSE. IT WAS ATTACHED BY 2 SMALL STUDS THAT WERE FRICTION FITTED TO THE HANDLE, THE TRUNK IS TOO HEAVY FOR THIS HANDLE. POWER DOOR LOCK FOR DRIVER AND BOTH REAR ARE NOT FUNCTIONING. REAR PASSENGER WINDOW IS NOT FUNCTIONING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THAT THE CHECK ENGINE, MAINTENANCE, AND AIR BAG WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,829.
I DRIVE A 2005 SCION XB, ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO THE BACK HATCH HANDLE BROKE OF, WHERE THE LIGHT SHINE TO THE LICENSE PLATE. I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE HANDLE LIKE THREE YEARS AGO... I CALLED TOYOTA TO SEE IF THE RECALL WAS EXPIRED, THEY DON'T SEE A RECALL EVER BEEN DONE. I DO SEE THIS AS A SAFETY DO TO LIGHTING AND ELECTRICAL. I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH OTHER SCION LIKE THE ONE I HAVE. SOME DID GET A RECALL AND GOT FIXED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR HATCHBACK HANDLE FRACTURED CAUSING THE OTHER FOUR DOOR LOCKS TO BECOME DISABLED. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE HOLES WHERE THE HATCHBACK HANDLE WAS FRACTURED AND THERE WAS A STRONG FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,120.
AFTER HAVING MY CAR, 2005 XB, SERVICED MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON.DEALER STATED THEY WOULD NEED TO REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. CAR HAS APPROX 160,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE SEEN OTHERS STATING THAT SAME PROBLEM AT OR NEAR THE SAME MILEAGE, TOYOTA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS CAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM. ALSO OTHER LIGHTS RANDOMLY COMING ON SUCH VEHICLE STABILITY, CHECK ENGINE AND ANOTHER LIGHT ALL COME ON TOGETHER FOR NO APPARENT REASON. RECALL PLEASE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE LIFTGATE AND NOTICED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE WAS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. WE HAD OUR LOCAL MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE SAID THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE TAKEN APART TO FIX IT. THIS SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE CURRENT TOYOTA RECALL FOR THE SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY YET MY SCION IS NOT ON THE LIST OF RECALLED VEHICLES. *TR
MY SCION OVERHEATED,LOST OIL PRESSURE DUE TO WHATEVER DAMAGE THE OVERHEATING CAUSED AND I'VE HAD A LOW BATTERY CHARGE ALL THIS TIME BUT NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS WERE INDICATED BY ANY GAUGE OR LIGHT ON MY DASH. NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR. *TR
THE REAR HATCH DOOR HANDLE CAME OFF IN MY HAND AND IS NOW DANGLING BY THE WIRES FOR THE TAG LIGHTS WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT MAY FALL OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I OWN 2005 SCION XB FIRST INCIDENT -THURSDAY EVENING 6:30 PM, JULY 11, 2013 IN MARTINEZ, CALIFORNIA I WAS DRIVING ON THE CITY STREET AT ABOUT 25 MPH. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED BY ITSELF TO 40-45 MPH. I BRAKED (FOOT BRAKE, HAND BRAKE & USING GEAR) BEFORE ALMOST HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. LUCKILY IT STOPPED WITH A LOUD BRAKING NOISE; I ENDED UP CLOSE TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET BUT STILL NOT CLEAR FROM THE TRAFFIC LANE. I TRIED TO RESTART AND MOVE OUT OF THE WAY BUT THE ACCELERATION SOUND WAS HORRIBLE AND THE GEAR WAS LOCKED UP. I OPENED THE HOOD AND CHECKED THE ACCELERATOR CABLE, FLIPPING THE SPRING LOADED CABLE BACK AND FORTH, AND IT SEEMED TO BE LOOSE ON THE CABLE SPOOL. I THEN RE-STARTED THE CAR, BUT IT WAS STILL REVVING VERY FAST, SO I TURNED IT OFF AND CONTINUED FLIPPING THE ACCELERATOR CABLE UNTIL IT APPEARED TO BE TIGHTER. WHEN I RE-STARTED IT THIS TIME IT WAS RUNNING NORMALLY AT REDUCED RPMS ABOUT 30 MINUTES AFTER THE INCIDENT. I DROVE BACK HOME SLOWLY (ONE MILE AWAY) ON THE CITY STREETS. I DROVE IT SLOWLY TO AUTO SHOP THE NEXT DAY. CHECKED BY MTZ AUTOMOTIVE IN MARTINEZ, CALIFORNIA ON FRIDAY, JULY 12, 2013. THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. BUT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE. DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 SCION XB . AS I SLOWED DOWN TO STOP MY CAR ACCELERATED RIGHT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND INTO A BARBWIRE FENCE.. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE ENGINE ACCELERATED . THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL; TRACTION CONTROL; CHECK ENGINE ALL LIT UP.I GOT THE CAR STARTED, BUT IT RAN HOT AND STARTED SMOKING AND WOULD NOT HOLD SPEED. *TR
MY 10 YEAR OLD SON WAS SIMPLY OPENING THE BACK HATCH TO GET OUT A BAG AND THE WHOLE REAR DOOR GARNISH BROKE OFF. IT BROKE FROM SIMPLE DESIGNED USE AND NOW HANGS OFF THE VEHICLE AND THE HATCH WILL NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. SCION ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM BUT IT WAS ONLY GOOD FOR ONE YEAR AND DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE NOW EVEN THOUGH THE PART IS FAULTY AND THE VEHICLE IS NOW DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. PLEASE INSIST ON A VEHICLE RECALL SO THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LATCH DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED WHILE SHE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE TRUNK. AS A RESULT, THE TRUNK WAS UNABLE TO BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,023.
REAR DOOR LATCH BROKE OFF WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. WILL NOT RELEASE. *TR
WENT TO PUT MY GROCERIES AWAY AFTER LEAVING THE STORE. LIFTED ON THE REAR HATCH HANDLE AND WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THE TRUNK STILL CLOSED AND THE HANDLE STILL IN MY HAND. NOW MY LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS AND MY HANDLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK ARE DANGLING FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. WE HAD OUR LOCAL MECHANIC LOOK AT IT. HE STATED DEALER HAD TO FIX BECAUSE OF COMPUTER COST TO READ AIR BAG SENSOR READINGS. MILEAGE 155000. SEVERAL OTHER DASH LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF. *TR
THE TAILGATE "HANDLE" RELEASE BROKE OF IN MY HANDS, WITHOUT EVEN PULLING ON IT, ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. I WENT OUT TO PLACE SOMETHING INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR AND WHEN I PINCHED THE RELEASE BUTTON AND LIFTED THE GATE AS I HAVE DONE HUNDREDS OF TIMES, THE HANDLE SNAPPED OFF IN MY HANDS! AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE, MANY HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN MORE THAN ONCE! DEALERSHIPS HAVE EVEN STATED, "IT IS FAULTY PART." HOWEVER, TOYOTA FAILS TO ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
DRIVING ON AN ACCESS ROAD, A CAR STOPPED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF ME AT LOW SPEED, AND I STEPPED ON BRAKES HARD AND THEY DID NOT WORK. HAVE HAD ACCELERATION PROBLEMS IN PAST AND REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OF CRUISE CONTROL STICKING AND ACCELERATION AND ODOMETER GOING OUT AND DASHBOARD. AIRBAGS DEPLOYED PREMATURELY AND DID NOT INFLATE FULLY. SERVICE LIGHT STICKING PREVENTING INSPECTION UNTIL DEALERSHIP CAN ORDER PART RESULTING IN TWO TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS OF NO INSPECTION EVEN THOUGH PRESENTING DOCUMENTATION OF SEEKING INSPECTION AND FAILED. REPLACED PART ON SERVICE BULLETIN, REPLACED THREE WINDSHIELDS HAVING NOTHING HITTING IT BUT CRACKING ANYWAY,BACK TRUNK HANDLE BROKE,GLOVE COMPARTMENT BROKE,SEAT BELT PROBLEMS,CAR TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY EVEN THOUGH FRONT HAD NO DAMAGE VISIBLE, SEVERE DAMAGE TO FRONT BUMPER UNDERNEATH=SIX THOUSAND DOLLAR ESTIMATE-NO TRANSPORTATION NOW-UNSAFE CAR , WAS LOYAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER BUT THIS IS NOT A SAFE CAR FOUR SETS OF TIRES BEFORE FORTY THOUSAND MILES, FACTORY PUT WRONG SIZE ON CARE, PRIVATE TIRE COMPANY IDENTIFIED PROBLEM AND TIRE RIMS WERE DAMAGED. THIS WAS A RIP OFF CAR. BOUGHT NEW-NEVER AGAIN. *KB
BY 2011, BOTH BACK WINDOWS INOPERABLE (MOTOR BURNED OUT DUE TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES) AND I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING AND ELECTRICAL DASH DISPLAY. THE DEALER (AVENUES TOYOTA IN JACKSONVILLE, FL) SAID THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND INSTRUCTED ME TO CALL TOYOTA DIRECTLY ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $500 EACH TO REPLACE THE MOTOR IN BOTH BACK WINDOWS AND CLAIMS THERE ARE NO ISSUES THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF AT THIS TIME. I FOUND NUMEROUS CLAIMS ON THE INTERNET TO SUBSTANTIATE THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE AND THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES EXTEND THROUGHOUT THE TOYOTA LINE DURING THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. *TR
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS AND WINDOWS WORK SPORADICALLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 7 YEARS. SOMETIMES THE DOOR LOCK WON'T UNLOCK MANUALLY EITHER. THE WINDOWS SEEM LIKE THEY RUN OUT OF POWER AND THE BACK PASSENGER ONE STOPPED GOING DOWN.
CARFAX REPORTS THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. HOW DO I KNOW IF DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIR BAGS WHERE INSTALLED DURING REPAIRS?
2005 SCION XB WINDSHIELD CRACK IN THE MIDLINE, BETWEEN THE WIPERS. FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE CRACK CONTINUOUSLY INCREASING LENGTH. DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING NOR IT OCCURED FROM SOME OBJECT. BOUGHT THIS CAR USED FROM THE DEALER AND FROM THE LOOKS OF IT THIS WINDSHIELD IS NOT OEM STOCK, MIGHT BE REPLACED WINDSHIELD AND POSSIBLY THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURED BEFORE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LATCH ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SNAPPED OFF AS THE CONTACT TRIED TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
HATCH HANDLE, MADE OF FLIMSY PLASTIC AND HELD ON BY A COUPLE OF SCREWS, BROKE OFF. THIS PART, WHICH CONTAINS THE HANDLE, LOCK MECHANISM AND THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT, GETS A LOT OF USE, OPENING AND CLOSING THE HATCH, AND IS NOT VERY WELL MADE FOR THE AMOUNT OF USE IT IS SUBJECTED TOO. *TR
REAR HATCH OUTSIDE OPENING MECHANISM BROKE AFTER ROUTINE USE. THIS APPEARS TO BE DESIGN FLAW USING FLIMSY PLASTIC DOOR APPARATUS. THIS IS DANGEROUS SITUATION - IT HAS RESULTED IN IMPROPER CLOSING OF REAR HATCH DOOR WHICH CAN CAUSE EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE INSIDE ON THE CAR. THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE OBJECTS TO FALL OUT OF THE REAR OF THE CAR WHILE ON THE ROAD. (ANECDOTAL NOTE: I SEE NUMEROUS SCIONS OF THIS ERA WITH TAPED UP REAR HATCH DOOR HANDLES INDICATING THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TRUNK LATCH CAME OFF, MADE OF PLASTIC AND HELD BY TWO SCREWS, HAPPENED TWICE, FIRST TIME HAD TO GLUE SCREW TO THREAD ON PLASTIC LATCH BASE BUT IT WONT HOLD. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WHILE THIS PROBLEM PERSISTS. A 4 DOOR XB WITHOUT A TRUNK ACCESS? C'MON MAN!! *TR
DRIVING ABOUT 4 MILES AN HOUR, THE ACCELERATOR OVER POWERED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. RPM'S WHERE MAXED EVEN AFTER THE INITIAL COLLISION. WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKES AND IN PARK, THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD ANOTHER 3 -4 FEET TO HIT THE SAME CAR AGAIN. THE CAR WILL STILL MOVE WITH THE E-BRAKE OPERATED AND FULL FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. *TR
EXPERIENCED A FLAT TIRE TODAY DUE TO A TIRE VALVE STEM CRACKING AT THE BASE OF MY 2005 SCION XB. *TR
1. DRIVER'S SIDE LOCK INTERMITTENTLY WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE. NEITHER MANUALLY NOR PRESSING THE KEY FOB WILL OPEN. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR IS FROM THE OUTSIDE AND MANUALLY USING THE HANDLE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO 2 TOYOTA DEALERS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A TREE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED PERSONAL INJURIES.THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,777.
I HAVE A 2005 SCION XB. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN THAT SIT IN THE BACK SEAT IN BOOSTER SEATS. THE LAP BELTS ARE REALLY LOOSE ON THIS VEHICLE(MY CHILDREN CAN ACTUALLY STAND UP ON THE FLOOR AND MOVE TO THE MIDDLE SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT BUCKLED IN, DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS NORMAL). YESTERDAY MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING ON HER BELT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND LOOPED IT AROUND HER NECK. SINCE THE BELT IS SO LOOSE IT DIDN'T BOTHER HER. WHEN SHE UNBUCKLED THE BELT THE BELT WENT UP INTO THE WALL AND TIGHTENED AROUND HER NECK. AT THAT POINT IT WASN'T CHOKING HER AND I RAN AROUND THERE (PASSENGER REAR) AND TRIED TO HELP. HER HEAD WOULD NOT FIT THROUGH THE LOOP TO GET HER OUT. I COULD NOT GET THE SEAT BELT TO COME OUT ANY BECAUSE IT WAS LOCKED UP. THE MORE WE STRUGGLED THE TIGHTER THE SEAT BELT KEPT GETTING AROUND HER NECK. IT STARTED TO CHOKE HER AND I GRABBED A PAIR OF SCISSORS THAT I KEEP IN THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT AND CUT THE BELT. I ONLY RECENTLY STARTED KEEPING SCISSORS IN THE CAR AND IF I DID NOT HAVE THEM MY DAUGHTER WOULD PROBABLY BE DEAD RIGHT NOW. I WOULD HAVE HAD TO WATCH HER GET STRANGLED TO DEATH AND NOTHING I COULD DO. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT SOME KIND OF EMERGENCY RELEASE TO UNLOCK A SEAT BELT IN AN EMERGENCY. SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PLAYING WITH THE SEAT BELT, BUT KIDS DO STUPID THINGS, AND THERE SHOULD BE AN EMERGENCY WAY TO RELEASE THAT SEAT BELT. I KNOW HAVE TO PAY ALMOST $300 TO FIX THE SEAT BELT, BUT I GUESS THAT IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE ALTERNATIVE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE, TSC AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED SIMULTANEOUSLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE REPAIR THE EXACT SAME WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,900.

PLASTIC REAR TAILGATE HANDLE BROKE OFF UNDER NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN. APPARENT DESIGN DEFECT WHEREBY HEAVY WEIGHT OF REAR VERTICAL TAILGATE DOOR PLACES STRESS ON TWO PLASTIC CONNECTORS. NO PRACTICAL WAY TO OPEN DOOR FROM INSIDE OR OUT. PART ALSO HOUSES REAR LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS AND ELECTRONIC OPENING LATCH CONTROL WHICH BECOMES INOPERABLE. DOZENS OF SIMILAR EXPERIENCES POSTED ON EDMONDS.COM. DEALER REFUSED TO FIX OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD. AFTER COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA, THEY AGREED TO REIMBURSE FOR PART COST ONLY AS ONE TIME CONCESSION. *TR
WHILE ENTERING A FREEWAY WITH FULL ACCELERATION THE GAS PEDAL STUCK. THE CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL AND AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES PUT IT IN NEUTRAL IT FINALLY UNSTUCK. SCION XB 2005 SOON AFTER THIS HAPPENED ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON (SERVICE ENGINE BRAKE LIGHT ETC. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A COMPUTER. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE COMPUTER FAILURE BUT IT DID HAPPEN AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME TIME. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON. TOYOTA DEALER ADVISES THE WIRING HARNESS IN STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
WE HAVE A 2005 SCION XB. ROAD DEBRIS HIT THE CAR ONE MONTH AGO, BUT THE CRACK ON THE WINDSHIELD, STARTING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE EDGE, APPEARED 2 DAYS BACK. IT APPEARS UNRELATED. INSURANCE POLICY DID NOT COVER COST OF REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK IS MORE THAN A FOOT LONG. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 SCION XB WHEN I STRUCK A GUARD RAIL AND ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT END OF THE SCION AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. MY AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF. THIS RESULTED IN WHIPLASH INJURIES TO MY HEAD, NECK AND BACK. MY VEHICLE WAS DETERMINED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY AFTER THE CRASH. *TR
TWO PATCHES ON PASSENGER SIDE FROM TIRE ONLY SEEM TO BE SHOWING WEAR BEYOND NORMAL USE. FIRST PATCH IS 5 3/8" LONG BY 7/8" WIDE. SILVER METAL FIBERS ARE STICKING OUT OF THE PATCH AND SOME WHITE FIBERS ARE SEEN AROUND THE EDGE OF THE PATCH. PATCH IS OVAL SHAPED AND LOCATED ON THE OUTERMOST TREAD (PART OF TREAD FACING AWAY FROM THE CAR) SECOND PATCH IS 6" LONG BY 1/2" WIDE WITH ONLY WHITE FIBERS SHOWING. NO METAL IS EXPOSED. THIS PATCH IS LOCATED ON THE INNER EDGE (PART FACING CAR/ENGINE) AND IS OVAL SHAPED AS WELL. WHOLE PATCH IS COMPLETELY ON THE OUTER TREAD AS WELL. BOTH PATCHES ARE IN THE SAME RELATIVE LOCATION ON THE TIRE, HOWEVER ONE IS ON THE OUTER TREAD AND ONE IS ON THE INNER TREAD. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE IS THE ONLY TIRE WITH THIS PROBLEM. HAD TREADWEAR MEASURED BY AN ASSOCIATE AT NTB (NATIONAL TIRE AND BATTERY CO.) AND ALL TIRES HAVE 4/32 WORTH OF TREAD ON THEM. ALIGNMENTS AND ROTATIONS ARE DONE "REGULARLY" BUT DO NOT HAVE THE PAPERWORK TO PROVE IT. TIRES WERE INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER WHEN CAR WAS PURCHASED. CAR HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT. AS OF NOW, STILL DRIVING ON THE TIRE, BUT SHOPPING AROUND TO GET IT REPLACED SOON. *TR
REAR DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY CAME COMPLETELY OFF, DISCONNECTED FROM CAR DOOR WHEN ENGAGING LATCH AND PULLING UP IN AN ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR. *TR
TRUNK LATCH BROKE OFF WHEN TRYING TO OPEN. MADE VERY FLIMPSE AND WILL NOT WITHSTAND REGULAR USE. *TR
