ON 4 SEPARATE INCIDENTS, MY CAR ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN WHILE SITTING STILL. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS ON MARCH 23RD WHILE I WAS SITTING STILL IN A MCDONALD'S DRIVE THRU. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACTED AS IF I HAD STEPPED FULLY DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO REALLY PUSH MY FOOT DOWN ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP IT FROM LUNGING FORWARD. I IMMEDIATELY PUSHED IT INTO PARK AND THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM EXTREMELY WORRIED IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN! *TR
A ROCK WENT THRU MY GRILLE STRIGHT INTO THE AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR. ALTHOUGH NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY GRANDDAUGHTER WHO LIVES IN ANOTHER STATE. THE REPAIR COSTS ARE AROUND $700.00 I BELIEVE THERE ARE MORE OF US OUT THERE AND THAT THE GRILLE IS AN UNSAFE ISSUE FOR MY CAR. *TT
CAR WAS PARKED AFTER BEING DRIVEN IN NORMAL CONDITIONS. WHEN CAR WAS STARTED, STABILITY CONTROL, TRAC OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE LIT. TOOK CAR TO REPAIR SHOP. LIGHTS WERE RESET, INDICATIONS WERE THERE WAS A LOOSE CLAMP. TWO DAYS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY I HAD GOTTEN BAD GAS. PRIOR TO ALL THIS, I HAD PURCHASED A FULL TANK OF GAS, BUT NOTICED AS I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK AFTER MAKING THE PURCHASE THAT THE CAR SEEMED "SLUGGISH" AT TIMES, ALMOST TO THE POINT OF STALLING OUT. IT NEVER STALLED OUT. HE SUGGESTED PUTTING AN ADDITIVE IN MY FUEL TANK, RESET THE LIGHTS AND I WENT ON. THE NEXT DAY, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. WENT BACK TO THE MECHANIC. HE DID A DEEPER DIAGNOSIS. AGAIN HE STATED THE SAME 10 FUEL-RELATED CODES CAME UP. HE STATED I SHOULD GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS OF A CANISTER PROBLEM. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE EVAPORATOR CANISTER WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT, AS WELL AS THE FACT I NEEDED A NEW GAS CAP. I PURCHASED A NEW GAS CAP, AND AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE EVAPORATOR CANISTER TO COME IN TO GET THE CAR REPAIRED. I AM HOPING IT WILL BE REPAIRED 4/1/11. *TR
I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT AND HAD BRAKED AT A 3 WAY. I TURNED SLOWLY WITH MY FOOT GENTLY ON THE GAS PEDAL TO GO INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND WENT INTO THE ABUTMENT OF THE PARKING SPACE. I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE.
I HAVE A 2006 SCION XB. THE BACK LATCH (MADE OF FIBERGLASS) HAS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF ON ONE SIDE. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO USE AND IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO THE CAR USING THE REAR ENTRANCE. IT IS EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IN THAT IF SOME ONE WAS IN THE CAR IN AN ACCIDENT OR IF THIS WAS THE ONLY ACCESS TO GET INTO THE CAR TO HELP VICTIMS ACCESS IS NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE SEEN 4 CARS OF THIS MODEL JUST IN MY AREA THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THERE IS AN ACTUAL ACCIDENT THIS IS A INFERIOR SYSTEM! *TR
JAN 31, 2011 - 2006 SCION XB WITH APPX. 38,000 MILES STALLED ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH WITH NO APPARENT CAUSE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST DOWN AN EXIT RAMP AND WAITED APPX. 5 MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING THE CAR. IT PERFORMED PERFECTLY AFTER THAT. AFTER LOOKING INTO IT ON THE INTERNET AND REALIZING THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE NOW CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND AM AWAITING A RESPONSE. NO CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DATE. *TR
BACK HATCH DOOR HANDLE BROKEN & LICENSE PLATE LIGHT HANGING.*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACT AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE SENSOR RECALIBRATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 42,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT RETRACTOR BROKE, CAUSING HER TO REMAIN STUCK IN HER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE SPRING WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED TO REIMBURSE THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO BE RECEIVED BY THE DEALER IN ORDER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 66,990.
DRIVER SIDE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK FAILED TO FULLY UNLOCK DOOR MECHANISM, MANUAL DOOR LOCK MECHANISMS (INTERIOR PULL & EXTERIOR KEY) INEFFECTIVE, DOOR DOES NOT UNLOCK OR UNLATCH (OPEN) WHEN INTERIOR HANDLE PULLED, OCCUPANT (DRIVER) UNABLE TO EXIT VEHICLE. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME MY 2006 SCION XB HAS ACCELERATED WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE. THIS TIME IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS GOING UPHILL ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED AND BEGAN RACING. I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE TO A STOP, BUT THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE ENGINE TO SLOW WAS TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTART THE CAR. AS WITH THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE THAT I WAS ACCIDENTALLY STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR, SINCE I USED THE BRAKE TO BRING THE CAR TO A HALT. IT WAS SCARY THE FIRST TIME. IT WAS SCARY THIS TIME TOO. *TR
MY CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OVER NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE TO WASH THE CAR I NOTICED THERE WAS A VERY LARGE 'L' SHAPED CRACK RUNNING THE LENGTH OF APPROX. 3' FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD DOWN, THEN CURVING AND RUNNING FOR ANOTHER 17' TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS LARGE OF A CRACK HAPPENED OVERNIGHT!! THE CRACK HAS SEEMINGLY APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE AS THERE IS NO OTHER DAMAGE THAT THE CRACK WOULD HAVE ORIGINATED FROM; IT APPEARS TO BEGIN UNDER THE TRIM OF THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE DONE QUITE A BIT OF RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED BY MANY OTHER SCION XB OWNERS. THIS WOULD LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE WINDSHIELDS TOYOTA INSTALLED IN THE XB MODEL ARE DEFECTIVE. AGAIN, MY CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT AND I LIVE IN A VERY QUIET RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. *TR
MY 2006 SCION XB HAS A CRACK ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, STARTING FROM THE CENTER TOP EXTENDING STRAIGHT DOWNWARD APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES AND THEN PROCEEDS TO CRACK IN THE DIRECTION TOWARDS THE DRIVERS SIDE WHICH AGAIN EXTENDS ANOTHER 6 INCHES. THE CRACK HAS NO VISIBLE POINT OF IMPACT FROM A ROCK OR FOREIGN OBJECT AND ORIGINATES FROM ON TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD BEHIND THE TRIM. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND MANY OTHER SCION XB CONSUMERS WHO SHARE THE SAME EXACT CRACK SIMILAR TO MINE. IT IS CLEARLY DUE TO THE TOYOTA OEM WINDSHIELD BEING DEFECTIVE, CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK ON ITS OWN. THE SCION XB WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT IN RESIDENTIAL WHEN FIRST NOTICED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 65MPH. TRAFFIC BEGAN TO SLOW AND WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW MY CAR THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV UP. TRAFFIC CAME SLOWER AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE, PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THEN RESTART THE ENGINE. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE IT REVED AGAIN AND AGAIN TURNED IT OFF AND ON AND THE ENGINE RESET AND RAN SMOOTHLY. THIS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE ABOUT A YEAR AFTER WE BOUGHT THE CAR BUT I DON'T REMEMBER THE DATE. WE DID NOT TAKE IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER.
TODAY, 3/19/10 AT AROUND 9:30 A.M. I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA SCION HOME FROM THE DENTISTS OFFICE. NEARING THE TOP OF A HILL MY THROTTLE STUCK IN THE FULL POSITION AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO DEPRESS. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE REVVED AT HIGH SPEED, I RETURNED THE TRANSMISSION TO DRIVE AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I REPEATED THE GEAR CHANGE AND THE SECOND TIME THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION RESPOND PROPERLY. I CALLED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO OFFERED NO HELP UNLESS I CAN REPEAT THE PROBLEM. P.S. I AM (AND HAVE BEEN) A STATE LICENSED VEHICLE SAFETY & EMISSIONS INSPECTOR (MA)BY PROFESSION. PRIOR TO THIS I WAS A STATE LICENSED MECHANIC & VEHICLE EMISSIONS INSPECTOR (CA). *TR
CAME OUT TO THE CAR THIS MORNING TO FIND A " L " SHAPED CRACK STARTING FROM THE TOP MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD DOWN ABOUT 8 INCHES, AND TAKING A 90 DEGREE TURN TWORDS THE DRIVER SIDE FOR ANOTHER 12 INCHES. UPON INSPECTION THE CRACK HAS NO IMPACT POINT AND LOOKS TO HAVE STARTED FROM BEHIND THE WEATHER STRIPPING. CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY REFUSE TO BELIEVE THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH OF 'SCION XB WINDSHIELD' TURNS UP THOUSANDS OF RESULTS AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. REPAIR ESTIMATE; 680$. *TR
IN THE PROCESS OF SLOWING DOWN IN ORDER TO PULL OVER AND PARK THE VEHICLE, THE CAR BEGAN TO SPEED UP. TRIED APPLYING THE FOOT BRAKE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. IT WAS AS THOUGH THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK. IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT COULD HEAR THE CAR REVVING UP. APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR SAFETY. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO RESIDENCE. *TR
FOLLOW UP TO COMPLAINT # 10203228. MY WINDSHIELD HAS SUSTAINED TWO MORE BRAKES. I'M READY FOR MY FIFTH WINDSHIELD IN FOUR YEARS. ALL BRAKES HAVE OCCURRED ON PAVED ROADS. *TR
ENGINE: ON WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2010 MY 2006 SCION XB, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROX 70MPH. MY ENGINE SHUT OFF - NO POWER - NONE!! NO WARNING - JUST SHUT OFF!!! -WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. ASIDE FROM VEHICLES ATTEMPTING TO AVOID HITTING MY VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTING TO ALSO AVOID HITTING OTHERS- I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND THIS COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING COULD HAVE KILLED OTHERS AS WELL. OF COURSE I WAS OVER MY WARRANTY FOR THIS PARTCULAR COVERAGE BY APPROX 1,000 MILES. GUESS WHAT THE TOYOTA DEALER TOOK CARE OF THE ISSUE, WHICH THEY STATED WAS THE "CRANK SENSOR". THEY SEEEMED HESITANT TO FULLY PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION, WHICH OF COURSE I WANT AND NEED AS I AM VERY HESITANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THERE HAS TO BE SOME SORT OF WARNING, YOU CAN'T JUST BE DRIVING AND HAVE YOUR ENGINE SHUT OFF, ENGINE WON'T TURN-OVER, NO STEERING, VERY LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY! I AM VERY CONCERNED, VERY - THE WARRANTY FOR THIS TYPE OF SERVICE WAS EXPIRED, ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND I APPRECIATE THIS MORE THAN YOU KNOW. I ASKED FOR ANSWERS AND THEIR LACK OF COMMUNICATION/INFORMATION CONCERNS ME. *TR
OUT OF NO WHERE; NO TREES, NO TRUCKS IN FRONT OF ME OR ANY OTHER VEHICLES, ON A CLEAR DAY, MY WINDSHIELD MADE A LOUD POP NOISE AND IT CRACKED FROM THE TOP PASSENGER SIDE EDGE TO THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT SLOWLY CREEPED ACROSS TO THE MID-LINE OF VISIBILITY ON THE DRIVER SIDE OVER THE NEXT 24 HRS. -- I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL! *JS
TOYOTA SCION XB, 2006: WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN CRACKING ONGOING BEGINNING 2 WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED THIS CAR. TOYOTA/SCION REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ONGOING PROBLEM, AND OFFERS NO REPLACEMENT. I REPLACED 2 WINDSHIELDS WITHIN A YEAR AND LIVED WITH ANOTHER CRACK FOR 3 YEARS UNTIL NOW, AS I HAVE ACCUMULATED 3 CRACKS. TOYOTA OFFERS ME THE CHANCE TO PAY TWICE AS MUCH FOR THEIR GLASS AS THE COST FOR AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT. *TR
CRACKWINDSHIELD: I HAVE(MY INSURANCE COMPANY) HAS REPLACED 3 WINDSHIELDS IN MY 2006 SCION XB AND I CURRENTLY HAVE A (L) SHAPE CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD, WHICH STARTS AT HE TOP OF MY REAR-VIEW MIRROR. IF I DECIDE TO REPLACE THIS WINDSHIELD THIS WILL BE NUMBER 4. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHEN-EVER I BRING MY CAR IN FOR MAINTENANCE AND I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE WINDSHIELD IS THICKER THAN MOST DUE TO THE SHAPE OF THE GLASS! HAH! THIS IS SERIOUSLY A PROBLEM. IF I CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY THEY REPLACE THE GLASS, IF I WANT TO CONSIDER A NEW INSURANCE COMPANY THEY CONSIDER THIS A CLAIM AGAINST MY POLICY AND THIS MAKES MY INSURANCE COVERAGE HIGHER WITH OTHER INSURANCE COMPANIES, WHICH OF COURSE LIMITS MY OPTIONS! ON TUESDAY JANUARY 19, 2010 ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I NOTICED A SMALL CRACK IN THE CENTER OF MY WINDSHIELD RIGHT BEHIND THE REARVIEW MIRROR OF MY 2006 SCION XB. I WAS GOING TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP TO BE REPAIRED ON WEDNESDAY, ON WEDNESDAY MORNING I SAW THE CRACK HAD DOUBLED IN SIZE AND WAS IN THE SHAPE OF AN L GOING TOWARDS THE DRIVERS SIDE AND WAS BEYOND ABILITY TO REPAIR. I THOUGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A ROCK THAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE, BUT I COULD NOT RECALL A ROCK CAUSING SUCH DAMAGE IN SO LITTLE TIME. SO I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE TO SEE THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THE L SHAPE CRACK IN THE 2004 - 2006 SCION XB WINDSHIELD. I DID MORE RESEARCH AND I WAS TOLD TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA IN HOPE IT COULD BE RESOLVED SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
2006 SCION XB DRIVER DOOR OFTEN WILL NOT UNLOCK FROM THE INSIDE. DRIVER MUST CLIMB OUT THROUGH WINDOW OR PASSENGER DOOR. NOT REPAIRED YET.*TR
FOR THE SECOND TIME, THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2006 SCION XB HAS DEVELOPED A LARGE CRACK AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN NEITHER INSTANCE DO I RECALL ANYTHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. *TR THE CURRENT CRACK DEVELOPED OVERNIGHT WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. IN MY EXPERIENCE, THIS FREQUENCY OF WINDSHIELD CRACKING IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL. I THINK THE WINDSHIELDS (OR PERHAPS THE WINDSHIELD MOUNTS) MUST BE DEFECTIVE.
I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN MY CAR ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. I APPLIED THE BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET AND COULD NOT STOP. I HIT MY OTHER CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THAT STOPPED ME BUT DAMAGED BOTH VEHICLES. SINCE THIS OCCURRED ON PRIVATE PROPERTY I DID NOT CONTACT POLICE. *TR
WINDSHIELD ON MY 2006 SCION XB CRACKED OVERNIGHT WHILE SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I DISCOVERED A CRACK STARTING FROM THE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD, APPROX EYE-LEVEL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE CRACK EXTENDS ABOUT 10 INCHES DOWNWARD AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF A ROCK CHIP OR OTHER EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD. THIS CRACK WAS NOT PRESENT THE EVENING BEFORE THEN THE CAR WAS PARKED. *TR
THE HANDLE FOR THE BACK HATCH ON MY 2006 SCION XB HAS BROKEN. IT IS STILL CONNECTED BY THE WIRES. THE HANDLE IS VERY FLIMSY AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO GRAB ONTO WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THE HATCH. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN IT INTO THE DEALER YET, SO I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT WILL BE TO FIX. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT OBSERVED THE VAPOR CANISTER LOCATED ABOVE THE REAR AXLE FAILED, DUE MOISTURE COMING FROM THE FILLER TUBE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE OR WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SCION XB. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC WITH THE VEHICLE PLACED IN PARK THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. NO ONE WAS INJURED, A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 97000.
FRONT WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED AN 'L' SHAPED CRACK FROM THE TOP CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD BEHIND THE REARVIEW MIRROR EXTENDING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT SOMETHING HIT IT ON MY WAY HOME AND FOR SOME REASON I DIDN'T NOTICE... WHEN I INSPECTED IT, THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ANYTHING HITTING IT, NO DING NO ANYTHING, IT SEEMED TO JUST APPEAR OVERNIGHT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I HAD GONE OVER THE 36000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY BY A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES. I LOVE MY CAR, BUT THE MORE I READ THE MORE DISCOURAGED I GET. ON SEPTEMBER 25 TH MY FAMILY AND I WENT TO THE FAIR IN OUR TOWN IN OUR 2006 SCION XB. CAME HOME PARKED IT IN THE DRIVE WAY AND THE NEXT MORNING WE GOT UP WENT OUTSIDE AROUND 10:00 A.M. TO WASH OUR CARS AND THE WINDSHIELD IN THE SCION WAS BROKEN. THERE IS A CRACK FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IN A V SHAPE GOING HALF WAY DOWN THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING LINE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAPPENS WITH THIS CAR. THERE WAS EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUITE ON IN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SCION XB. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED IT. ONE WEEK LATER THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE WAS BLOWN AND THEY ALSO REPLACED THE COMPUTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE YEAR LATER THE COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM THAT HE WOULD REPLACE THE COMPUTER FOR $4,000. MY CAR, A 2006 SCION XB, WHILE DRIVING ON SURFACE STREETS BEGAN TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL. WHEN I TAPPED ON THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, IT SLOWED DOWN AND STOPPED THE ACCELERATION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO BEV SMITH TOYOTA & SCION, WHERE THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SOFTWARE MALFUNCTIONED. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THEY BELIEVE THAT THE SOFTWARE CAUSED THE ISSUE. *TR

2006 SCION XB. WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT, A LARGE CRACK DEVELOPED RUNNING DOWN BEHIND THE REARVIEW MIRROR AND THEN MAKING A 90 DEGREE TURN TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE. *TR
REAR POWER WINDOWS FAIL TO OPERATE. SAFETY HAZARD IN HOT CLIMATES. TOYOTA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED IN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT REPAIRS NOT COVERED EXCEPT UNDER 3 YEAR/36K MILE FACTORY WARRANTY. SUGGEST A RECALL TO REPAIR THIS SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY IN HOT CLIMATES WHERE CHILDREN CAN BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE IF UNABLE TO OPERATE THE WINDOWS CORRECTLY. *TR
THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT AROUND THIS ISSUE. MY 2006 SCION XB HAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME! MY RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS AN UNUSUALLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL AND I NOTE THAT THIS WILL BE THE 89TH COMPLAINT OF THIS TYPE ON THIS SITE. I HAVE TRAVELED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES IN MY LIFE AND MY WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN HIT BY ROCKS ON MANY OCCASIONS. NOT ONCE HAVE THOSE STRIKES RESULTED IN A FATALLY CRACKED WINDSHIELD UNTIL MY SCION. A SMALL NICK WILL ALMOST INVARIABLY END UP IN MAJOR CRACK. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS BECAUSE OF HOW THE WINDSHIELD IS SLOPED. I BELIEVE IT IS A CHEAP PIECE OF GLASS OR A DESIGN FLAW OF SOME KIND. AT $500 A WINDSHIELD IT IS BECOMING AN EXPENSIVE PROPOSITION TO OWN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
WOKE UP TO A CRACKED WINDSHIELD BEHIND THE REARVIEW MIRROR. LINE CRACK THAT IS SPREADING SLOWLY. *TR
TWO MONTHS AGO, AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR, I HEARD A NOISE. AT FIRST, I DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING DIFFERENT UNTIL I THEN GLANCED AT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS A CRACK STARTING FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD TO ABOUT A 1/3 DOWN. IT HAS SLOWLY BEEN GETTING LONGER AND IS NOW HALFWAY TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO EXAMINE THE CRACK, THERE IS NO SIGN OF A ROCK OR ANY OTHER ITEM HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. MY INSURANCE WILL ONLY COVER IT AFTER I PAY MY DEDUCTIBLE (WHICH IS MORE THAN A NEW WINDSHIELD WOULD COST ME). *TR
PULLED MY 2006 SCION XB INTO THE GARAGE AFTER WAXING IT. ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER GOT IN TO PULL IT OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THERE WAS A LARGE "L" SHAPED CRACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
PROBLEM #1: FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED. I REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD AND IT CRACKED AGAIN ON THE REPLACEMENT. A SMALL PEBBLE HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THAT CAUSED IT TO CRACK. PROBLEM #2: REAR HATCH HANDLE BROKE WHEN IT WAS USED. I OPENED THE REAR HATCH HANDLE AND THE PLASTIC PIECE BROKE OFF IN THE PROCESS ALMOST INJURING MY HAND. I CONTACTED SCION ABOUT THE SITUATION THEY THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF. THEY REQUIRED ME TO RECEIVE AN ASSESSMENT FROM THE DEALER. I DROVE TO MY NEAREST DEALER AND THEY DID NOT REQUIRE AN ASSESSMENT BECAUSE THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS ALREADY KNOWN. I CONTACTED SCION AGAIN AND THEY GET BACK TO ME FOR A SOLUTION. THE SOLUTION WAS FOR ME TO REPLACE THE REAR HANDLE WITH A HIGH PRICE AMOUNT. THE REAR HANDLE EXPENSIVE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF ON SCION'S END, ESPECIALLY WHEN A NEAR INJURY COULD HAVE TAKE PLACE. I RECEIVED CASE NUMBER FOR MY RECORDS. *TR
WINDSHIELD CRACKED ON A SHORT TWO HOUR DRIVE, NOTHING ELSE UNUSUAL HAPPENED. *TR

2006 SCION XB --- WE HAVE EXPERIENCED SAME GAS PEDAL PROBLEM ON FOUR OR FIVE OCCASIONS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. I OWN A 2006 SCION XB AND I HAVE A HUGE CRACK THAT APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE ON MY WINDSHIELD. THIS CRACK STARTED OUT BIG, AND THEN ONLY GOT BIGGER WITH TIME. STANDARD DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, SUDDENLY SMALL CHIP IN BOTTOM LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD APPEARED, NO OTHER NOTICEABLE CHIPS OR CRACKS. CAR WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT IN SECURE GARAGE AND OBTAINED A LARGE CRACK GREATER THAN 6 INCHES IN THE TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER OF WINDSHIELD. WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. *TR
THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS ON THE CAR WILL OFTEN OPEN ONLY HALFWAY, PREVENTING THE OCCUPANT FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE. BOTH FRONT DOORS ARE AFFECTED, BUT THE DRIVERS DOOR IS AFFECTED MORE OFTEN. IT IS DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR MANUALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS. REPEATING THE UNLOCK PROCESS SEVERAL TIMES IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE LOCK TO OPEN. THIS WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, BUT THEY TOLD US THAT THE LOCKS WERE WORKING FINE WHEN THEY HAD IT AND THAT THEY COULD NOT WORK ON IT UNLESS THEY SAW THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY OCCURRING. I KEEP A WINDOW HAMMER IN THE CAR NOW. *TR
WINDSHIELD STRESS CRACK ON SCION XB. 2006 MY. THE CRACK HAPPENED SPONTANEOUSLY FROM THE REARVIEW MIRROR AND CURVING RIGHT. FROM INVESTIGATING NUMEROUS POSTS, DISCUSSIONS, ETC. ON THE INTERNET, THIS APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT DEFECT. JUST GOOGLE "SCION XB WINDSHIELD CRACKING" AND YOU'LL FIND A PLETHORA OF INCIDENTS.
