THERE WAS A RECALL WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR AND THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL WHEN ITS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS FOR. I HAVE NO HORN, CRUISE CONTROL, NO RADIO CONTROLS AND I DON,T KNOW IF THE AIR BAG WORKS. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND SUBARU REFUSES TO REPAIR I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $200. PLUS JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT WHEN THEY ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
TRANSMISSION HAS AN ISSUE WITH LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER WHERE THE VEHICLE STALLS AT STOPS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LAWRENCE SUBARU DEALER IN HANOVER, PA, DEALER REFUSED TO FIX UNDER CURRENT WARRANTY CITING NO ISSUE WITH VEHICLE.

CAR DROPS RPM AND STUMBLES TO ALMOST STALLING DURING BREAKING AT CITY SPEEDS ALSO DOES THE SAME IN LOW SPEED REVERSE SITUATION LIKE PARKING. DASH LIGHTS UP BUT NO CODE STORED. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS ISSUE HAS PRESENTED ITSELF. I SPOKE TO A DEALER REFERENCE THE REVERSE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. SUBARU CLAIMS TO BE ONE OF THE SAFEST VEHICLES ON THE ROAD? THIS IS NOT SAFE. THE CHANCE OF BEING REAR ENDED AT HIGHWAY SPEED COULD BE DEADLY!

I WEIGH 115 POUNDS. WHEN I SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE 2010 SUBARU LEGACY, THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. WHEN SOMEONE HEAVIER SITS IN THE SEAT, THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. I WORKED WITH MY SUBARU DEALER, WHO HAD NO REMEDY, SO THEY REFERRED ME TO SUBARU OF AMERICA (800-782-2783). I OPENED CASE 1-25522457944. THEY TELL ME THERE IS NO AVAILABLE REPAIR, AND THE PASSENGER MUST "SIT PROPERLY" IN THE SEAT. I AM SITTING PROPERLY. THIS WAS APPARENTLY AN ISSUE THEY KNEW ABOUT, AS THEY CORRECTED IN IN THE 2011 LEGACIES (WE OWN ONE OF THOSE, TOO). I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WHEN I SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IN THE 2011 MODEL. SUBARU OF AMERICA CONFIRMED THAT IF THE INDICATOR LIGHT IS NOT LIT, THE BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. SO A PERSON OVER 80 POUNDS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY IS NOT PROTECTED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS A REMEDY, BUT PERHAPS SUBARU DOESN'T WANT TO GO THERE. I WANT THE VEHICLE ATTRIBUTES I PURCHASED TO FUNCTION AS DESIGNED. THEY SAY IT IS, BUT IF IT DOESN'T DEPLOY FOR SOMEONE WHO IS 115, HOW DID THEY DESIGN IT? IS THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN HELP WITH? WE FIRST NOTED THIS PROBLEM IN 2014, TOOK IT IN, SUBARU COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THIS TIME, WE PUSHED HARDER FOR A RESOLUTION, SO WE HAVE BETTER INFORMATION. WHEN DID THIS FIRST HAPPEN DATE WILL REFLECT THE MOST RECENT DATE.
THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BREAK DOES NOT WORK ON MY AUTOMATIC WHEN I PARK ON AN INCLINE IT JUST BEEP'S AND FLASHES BREAK ON DASHBOARD
THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS LOCKING UP AND NOT RELEASING, WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL AT RANDOM TIMES. THERE ARE TIMES WHERE YOU MAY BE ON A HILL AND THE CAR STALLS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IN ATLANTA TRAFFIC. SUBARU OF AMERICA RELEASED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPAIR THE ISSUE AT THE DRIVER'S EXPENSE. ON 6/21/17 THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTIES FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION, BUT THAT DID NOT COVER THE TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUE. I FEEL I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THIS IS A MECHANICAL FAULT ON SUBARU'S END. WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR THEM TO REALIZE THAT THEY SHOULD BE FIXING THESE ISSUES AND ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS? A CAR TO STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND THE DRIVER GETS HIT?

THE CONTACT TRIED TO REVERSE THE VEHICLE, BUT IT CONTINUED TO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE. LOU FUSZ SUBARU OF ST PETERS, MISSOURI WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (BRUNSWICK SUBARU 2992 CENTER RD, BRUNSWICK, OH, 44212) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V326000 (POWER TRAIN). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
CAR DIES WHEN HARD STOPPING. I TOOK IT TO MIDAS AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP. TOOK INTO SUBARU AND WAS TOLD NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION.
THE LOW BEAMS AND DRIVING BULBS ON MY VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 54,000 MILES KEEP NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS NO EASY ACCESS TO PERFORM THESE COSTLY SAFETY REPAIRS , DUE TO THE ENGINEERING AND PLACEMENT OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY(IES). THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON 04/04/2017 PAST REPAIRS (4) WERE DONE BY SELF AND BODY SHOPS DUE TO ACCESS THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL COWLING ONLY, TODAY I HAVE A LOW BEAM AND DRIVING LIGHT OUT ON EACH SIDE OF THE VEHICLE! NO LIGHTS - NO SAFETY!
WHEN COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP, THE ENGINE SPUTTERS, STALLS AND DIES. THIS IS DUE TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKING UP AND KILLING THE ENGINE. SOMETIMES THE STOP DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ABRUPT. SUBARU NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A RECALL AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS.
I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT AN INTERSECTION (CAME TO A HARD STOP) AFTER DECELERATION AND THE ENGINE HESITATED, THEN STALLED/STOPPED COMPLETELY. I MUST PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE TO REMEDY THE STALL. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. IN TWO SITUATIONS, THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME HAD STARTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION BECAUSE I MUST PUT THE CAR IN '(P)ARK' TO RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE CAR STOPS SO ABRUPTLY.
PER SERVICE BULLETIN # 16-90-13, THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP. PART OF THE TIME, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHEN COMING TO A NORMAL STOP AS WELL. THIS HAPPENED ONCE WHILE CITY DRIVING WHEN A LIGHT WENT FROM RED TO GREEN AS WE WERE APPROACHING. WE WERE DOWN TO UNDER 5 MPH AND WENT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN TO CONTINUE WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. BEFORE I COULD RELEASE THE BRAKE, THE CAR STALLED AND ALMOST CAUSED US TO GET REAR ENDED. SO THAT ALONG WITH THE INCONVENIENCE AND DANGER OF DYING AT STOPS WILL PUSH US INTO PERFORMING THIS COSTLY REPAIR ASAP. THE STALLING CAN OCCUR SOMETIMES AT EVERY STOP, AND SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT HAPPEN FOR MULTIPLE STOPS. THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND IS TO BE REPLACED WITH A MORE UPDATED MODEL WITH DIFFERENT INTERNAL COMPONENTS. I CONTACTED SUBARU AND THEY INFORMED ME I WAS OUTSIDE OF MY WARRANTY SO IT WAS COMPLETELY UP TO ME.
I HAVE A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY 3.6R I BOUGHT ALMOST 4 YEARS AGO. IN THE TIME THAT I HAVE OWNED IT I HAVE REPLACED 7 HEADLIGHT BULBS AND HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN BECAUSE ONE JUST BLEW OUT. IT IS NOT ONE SPECIFIC SIDE, ITS EITHER OR BOTH. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? IS THERE A RECALL ON THE ASSEMBLY? I KNOW THE BULBS ARE THE RIGHT STYLE FOR THE CAR AND I RIP THE WHOLE FRONT END APART TO DO IT BECAUSE OF THE STYLE OF THE CAR.
TAKATA INFLATORS - I CONTACTED SUBARU AND THEY ARE STILL MONTHS AWAY FROM BEING ABLE TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT. WE ARE UNABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE FOR OUR FAMILY BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE.
TORQUE CONVERTER- STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED ON A STEEP INCLINE, THE TRACTION CONTROL INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGED AND CAUSED THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
When braking and coming to a stop the car shutters and stalls. In order to avoid it, you must put it into neutral or else it will stall and you will have to restart. This is dangerous and a very essential function of the car and needs to be replaced asap. It does this more frequently when coming to an abrupt stop. There can also be lights that sometimes blink - the cruise control light, brake light flashing, and stability control lights. This has been occurring for many years and i have tried to get it replaced and fixed but it was unknown what would fix this issue exactly so it was just money wasted.
THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILING AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $2,100 WHICH I'M NOT DOING AND IT'S AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH SUBARUS WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS WHICH MAKES ITS STALL WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE WHEN IT HAPPENS TO ME EVERY SINGLE DAY NOW EVER SINCE THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT LAST.
ISSUE: WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND THEN DURING FINAL BRAKING (SUCH AS AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ALSO WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO AVOID A DANGEROUS SITUATION AT SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY) THE CAR WILL "SHUDDER" AND THEN THE ENGINE WILL STALL AND STOP RUNNING. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC IF IT IS NECESSARY TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO BREWSTER, NY SUBARU (845 278 8300) AND THE TECHNICIAN CLAIMED IT DID NOT SHOW ANY CODES ON THE COMPUTER. I THEN ASKED FOR A DRIVE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THEN HE WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES. AFTER NEVER HAVING ROAD TESTED THE CAR UNTIL I ASKED FOR IT THEY CAME BACK WITH THE GUESS THAT IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. COST TO FIX APROX. $1770.00.I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED ON THIS, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED IT. I ALSO NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. CONSIDERING THE DANGER OF THIS FAULT, I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS APROX. 88,000 MILES. SUBARU SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR.
PROBLEM IS WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER SIMILAR TO BULLETIN NUMBER 16-90-13R ISSUED BY SUBARU INVOLVING LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS FROM 2010-2012. MY CAR HAS BEEN STALLING WHEN COMING TO A HARD STOP. JUST HAD MY CAR TO FIRESTONE AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND REFERENCED THE BULLETIN. THEY RECOMMEND TAKING TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP OR SUBARU DEALER FOR REPAIR. AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG MY CAR MODEL AND YEAR I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TO SEE A RECALL FOR THIS AS IT IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION TO STALL AT LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS. ANOTHER VEHICLE STOPPED DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME ,HITTING THE FRONT OF MY CAR WITH FORCE. THEN THAT CAR ABRUPTLY LEFT THE SCENE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF AND I WAS SEVERELY JOLTED. THEN THE CAR WENT UP IN FLAMES. I WAS IN A STATE OF SHOCK AND CONFUSION. LEFT THE SCENE AND RAN HOME AS MY BODY WAS IN TURMOIL. I HAD TO USE THE BATHROOM IMMEDIATELY. I THEN CALLED THE POLICE. REGARDING THE ACCIDENT. THE OTHER CAR HAS STILL NOT BEEN FOUND. PROGRESSIVE IS MY INSURANCE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOT IN TURNERSVILLE,N.J. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS ALL THE INFORMATION.
ON THE 2010 SUBARU LEGACY 2.5GT THE UNDER HOOD EMISSIONS LABEL SHOWS A MISPRINT. THE LABEL INCLUDES THE WORD "AIR" INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE A EMISSIONS RELATED AIR PUMP. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT! THIS WAS APPARENTLY UPDATED ON THE 2012 MODELS BUT NOT THE 2010. THIS ERROR ON SUBARU'S PART IS CAUSING ME TO FAIL CALIFORNIA'S EMISSIONS TEST. I NOW HAVE TO VISIT A REFEREE BECAUSE OF THIS ERROR.

WHEN MAKING A HARD BREAK THE RPM'S WILL DROP SO LOW THAT THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO SHUDDER AND THEN EVENTUALLY STALL. THIS I FIND IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHERE I'VE BEEN AT AN INTERSECTION AND HAD TO HARD BREAK AND I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON BEFORE I CAN MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY SAME YEAR 2010 FOR THE SUBARU OUTBACK MANUAL, I HAVE THE CVT TRANSMISSION SO I'M SURE THEY DIFFER BUT ESSENTIALLY DESCRIBED AS THE SAME ISSUE. I NOTICE IT MORE AT THE BEGINNING OF MY DRIVES IF I DRIVE FOR OVER A HALF HOUR I DON'T RECALL EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE ANY LONGER. IT'S BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. I READ ONLINE THAT SOUND CORRECT TO THE PROBLEM WITH A REFLASH SOME CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND SOME A NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN PUTTING MY CAR IN NEUTRAL TO KEEP THE RPMS FROM DROPPING OUT SO LOW THAT THE CAR STALLS OUT

MY WIFE AND I HAD MOVED FROM MILWAUKEE TO SEATTLE IN MARCH 2016. IN APRIL, WE DECIDED TO DRIVE UP TO THE SKAGIT VALLEY 'TULIP FESTIVAL' (NORTH OF THE CITY). WE TOOK MY WIFE'S 2010 SUBARU LEGACY IT WAS A DECENT DAY, BUT NOT WARM ENOUGH TO HAVE THE SUNROOF OPEN. WE DID HAVE THE SHADE OPEN THOUGH AND WERE ENJOYING THE SUN FILTERING IN. ON THE DRIVE UP ON I-5, WE HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION ABOVE US. MY WIFE KEPT HER COMPOSURE, BUT WE HAD TO SLOW DOWN, PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AND EXIT AS SOON AS WE COULD. WHEN WE STOPPED WE NOTICED A HOLE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PENNY APPEARING IN THE SUNROOF ABOVE US. THERE WAS SHATTERED GLASS IN THE CUP HOLDERS AND ON THE MIDDLE CONSOLE. WE COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED - WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, NOTHING WAS ABOVE US AND WE COULDN'T FIND A ROCK OR ANYTHING IN THE CAR. THE AUTO GLASS REPAIR SHOP PUT SOME CLING WRAP ON THE GLASS AND TAPED IT SO WE COULD CONTINUE OUR JOURNEY AND AWAIT INSURANCE. TURNS OUT OUR WI INSURANCE WAS STILL IN AFFECT SO WE ACTUALLY (LUCKILY) HAD IT COVERED UNDER GLASS REPLACEMENT. IT WAS A BIT OF A MESS WORKING WITH INSURANCE, GETTING THE REPLACEMENT GLASS, AND SCHEDULING THE REPAIR WORK, BUT WE'RE JUST THANKFUL WE DIDN'T GET GLASS ON US OR GET IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS. A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY [XXX], 67,381 MI ON 02/03/16 WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN FORWARD OR REVERSE. AFTER 30 MINUTES OF ATTEMPTS OF DIFFERENT SELECTION OF SWITCHES, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO D DEALER. A PART, NUMBER 22641AA54A SEN AY-A/F R WAS INSTALLED TO CORRECT THE DISCREPANCY. VEHICLE WILL SHUDDER AND STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP MOST OFTEN IN THE UPHILL POSITION, IT WILL ALSO STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP AFTER BRAKING HARD. THIS PROBLEM IS AVOIDED IF YOU PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL BUT THAT IS THE ONLY WAY. ENGINE IDLE WILL DROP DRASTICALLY AND THE VEHICLE HAS A HARD TIME REENGAGING INTO DRIVE AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. I ASSUME IT IS THE CVT TRANSMISSION OR THE TORQUE CONVERTOR.
CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE BREAKING. USED TO HAPPEN WHEN STOPPED BUT NOW HAPPENS A FEW TIMES A DAY WHEN JUST TRYING TO BREAK. IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT A FEW TIMES. THE CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE IN DRIVE, LIGHTS FLASH ON THE DASH, I HAVE TO PUT IN PARK AND TURN THE KEY OFF. IT STARTS UP FINE, BUT HAPPENS AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT HALF A YEAR AND IS GETTING WORSE. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIND ANY FAIL CODES OR ANYTHING.
VEHICLE STALLS OR ENGINE DIES WHENEVER IT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT HAPPENS ALL DAY, COLD AND HOT WEATHER. DRIVER MUST SWITCH GEAR FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL POSITION IN ORDER TO PREVENT STALLING. THIS PROCESS SHOULD NOT BE DONE ON AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. NO ERROR CODES REGISTERS ON THE DASH AND VEHICLE STARTS RIGHT AWAY AFTER IT STALLS. THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR SUBARU OWNERS BASE ON SUBARU FORUMS AND THREADS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE SINCE THIS COULD BE A FAULTY PART IN TRANSMISSION AND COULD CAUSE INJURY, ACCIDENTS AND FATALITY ON DRIVERS.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES STALL. IT ACTS LIKE IT WOULD IF YOU HAD A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND FORGOT TO PRESS THE CLUTCH. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. SOMETIMES IT'S FINE FOR WEEKS AT A TIME AND THEN WILL DO IT ALL OF A SUDDEN.
STOPPING VEHICLE QUICKLY AND ENGINE SHUDDERS AND STALLS AT ANY SPEED. MY CAR HAS 120K MILES AND HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE JUST UNDER 100K MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE HEAD LAMPS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE PROPERLY DUE TO A DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE TABS ON BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES WERE FRACTURED, WHICH CAUSED THE LIGHT BULBS TO BECOME UNSECURED AND MOVE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND MAKING TURNS IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (CASCADE SUBARU, 4149 STATE RD CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH 44223) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, CAUSING A VISIBILITY HAZARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I PARKED MY CAR AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 100 MILES. I WAS SITTING STILL WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. I HAVE A MANUAL (6 SPEED) TRANSMISSION, AND THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE, BUT THE CLUTCH WAS IN ALL THE WAY AND MY FOOT WAS OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND ON THE BRAKE. SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, I HEARD A NOISE AND THE ENGINE QUICKLY STARTED TO REV AND THE TACHOMETER WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE RED LINE. AFTER I RECOVERED FROM THE SURPRISE, I TRIED TO KICK OFF THE ENGINE BY DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR QUICKLY AND RELEASING IT. MY ACTION HAD NO EFFECT. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF WITH THE KEY AND IT CUT OFF. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR TODAY AND NOT HAD ANY RECURRENCE OF THIS NOR HAVE I HAD ANY INSTANCE OF THIS TYPE PRIOR TO LAST NIGHT. *TR
WHEN YOU SUDDENLY BRAKE, THE CAR STALLS AND ENGINE SHUTS OFF. YOU HAVE TO PUT CAR IN PARK, AND CRANK THE CAR BACK ON TO PROCEED, WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHILST IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS BLOGS AND WEBSITES. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER IN SUBARUS. I EVEN WENT TO THE DEALER WHICH THEY ADMITTED IT IS NOT A RECALL BUT A TECHNICAL ADVISORY, WHICH DUE TO THE SAFETY CONCERN IT SHOULD BE A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED LACERATIONS TO THE HEAD, HEMATOMAS, AMNESIA, STUTTERING, DAMAGE TO THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, AND SEVERE HEAD INJURIES. THE INJURIES REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BECOME AN EPILEPTIC. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000.
CAR STALLS WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR BRAKING TO STOP. NO ERROR CODES OR ENGINE LIGHT WARNING. CAR STARTS RIGHT AFTER BUT STALLS AGAIN FREQUENTLY. CHECKED ALL FLUID LEVELS OK. HAPPENS WITH HOT OR COLD WEATHER.
I HAD A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2010 SUBARU LEGACY WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR WAS DOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND I ACCELERATED TO CHANGE LANES AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE HALT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHT, PUT THE CAR TO PARK AND RESTARTED. THE CAR WOULD START BUT WOULD SHUT DOWN SLOWLY IN THE NEXT 2-3 SECONDS EVEN BEFORE I COULD PUT IT TO DRIVE AND ACCELERATE. I NOTICED THAT ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH LIKE TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE, ETC ALL LIT UP AND THE CAR JUST SLOWLY DIED. AFTER TRYING IT ONE MORE TIME (WITH SAME RESULTS) I SHUT OFF THE CAR COMPLETELY AND STARTED CALLING AAA FOR TOWING. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE WHEN I TRIED TO RE-START THE CAR, IT SPRANG UP TO LIFE NORMALLY (I.E. WITHOUT A SLOW SHUT-DOWN LIKE THE PRIOR TWO TIMES) AND ACCELERATED WHEN I PUT IT TO DRIVE LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY FOR SAFETY AND POPPED THE HOOD TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ON THE SURFACE THAT I COULD FIND WRONG. EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE, I WAS EVEN ABLE TO GET BACK HOME ALL ON THE FREEWAY NORMALLY. I TRIED TO STAY ON THE RIGHT LANE AND SIMULATE THE SAME (I.E. DOING DECENT SPEED AND THEN ACCELERATING), BUT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. SUNDAY BEING MANDATORY DEALERSHIP CLOSURES IN NJ I WAS NOT ABLE TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE WHOLE INCIDENT WAS COMPLETELY RANDOM AND WAS NEEDLESS TO SAY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND STRESSFUL. I HAVE CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA AND WAITING FOR THEIR RESPONSE. IN THE INTERIM I WANTED TO POST THIS TO NHTSA IN CASE OTHER SUCH INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED. *TR
ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2014 MY SON LEFT FOR WORK AT HIS USUAL TIME AND STARTED THE SUBARU. IMMEDIATELY, THE ENGINE ROARED AT FULL THROTTLE, AND THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF DOWN THE STREET, WHERE IT JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO A TREE AT 45 MPH. DISTANCE TRAVELED WAS LESS THAN 400 FEET FROM WHERE IT STARTED. BASED ON AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT, IT IS PRESUMED THAT THE VEHICLE SUFFERED AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION MECHANICAL ISSUE OUTSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S CONTROL. EMERGENCY SERVICE PERSONNEL ARRIVED WITHIN MINUTES, AND HE WAS TAKEN TO THE MAJOR METRO-AREA 833 BED HOSPITAL (LEVEL 1 TRAUMA CENTER) WHERE HE WAS ADMITTED TO CRITICAL CARE. HE DIED PEACEFULLY AND WITHOUT PAIN ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 26, 2014, AT AGE 37. SUBARU OF AMERICA WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS INCIDENT ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2014; A DETAILED DESCRIPTION, POLICE CRASH REPORT, AND 18 PICTURES WERE PROVIDED, WITH A REQUEST FOR THEM TO INSPECT THE TOTALED VEHICLE AND DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE INFORMATION FROM THE BLACK BOX RECORDER/EVENT DATA RECORDER.
