01/07/2016 SHORTLY AFTER TAKING THE FREEWAY EXIT WIFE NOTICED THE BATTERY LIGHT TURNED ON AND POWER STEERING GOT HEAVY. ALL OTHER WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH STARTED TO FLICKER AS THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT QUICKLY FILLED WITH SMOKE. SHE THEN PULLED OVER AND HAD JUST ENOUGH TIME TO GET BOTH KIDS OUT BEFORE THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. FIRE ORIGINATED FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF HER 2011 SUBARU LEGACY 3.6R LIMITED. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS.
WHENEVER THE BRAKE IS PRESSED HARD TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR STALLS AND ALL ELECTRICAL SHUT OFF. IT ALSO HAPPENS WHEN YOU BRAKE VERY SLOW BEFORE COMING TO A FULL STOP. BUT IF YOU BRAKE SLOWLY AND THEN PRESSED THE PEDAL FULL, THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR. THIS CAN CAUSE PANIC AND ALSO DELAY ON CARS RUNNING BEHIND THE CAR. IT APPEARS THIS IS SIMILAR PROBLEM . I ALSO FOUND A NUMBER OF SIMILARLY REPORTED PROBLEMS ONLINE WITH SUBARU CARS. I STILL DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG, JUST GOT THE CAR A WEEK AGO. WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE, THIS CAR IS FOR SON AND NO WAY IS HE SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR.
FREQUENT REPLACEMENT OF LOW BEAM BULBS. NOT EASY TO REPLACE AND SUBARU SERVICE BEST EQUIPPED TO DO PROCEDURE. LABOR COSTS AT VARIOUS DEALERS FOR THIS SERVICE WIDELY VARY AND CAN INCREASE WITHOUT REASON. SUBARU OF AMERICA RECENTLY SENT OUT LETTER SAYING WARRANTY ON BULBS HAS BEEN EXTENDED (NOT THAT THERE IS ISSUE WITH ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). SOA WILL REPLACE OR REFUND, HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE OF CONTINUED (PERCEIVED) DEFICIENCY IN THE LIGHTING SYSTEM OVERALL AND REFUND REQUIREMENTS ARE VERY STRINGENT PER THE LETTER THEY SENT. I CONSIDER THIS ISSUE AS A SAFETY DEFECT. WE HAVE BOTH AN OUTBACK AND LEGACY THAT ARE BOTH AFFECTED BY THIS. HAVE OWNED LEGACY SINCE NEW AND REPLACED BOTH BULBS FOUR TIMES SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP. HAVE TRIED OTHER BRAND BULBS TO NO BETTER RESULT (HENCE MY BELIEF IT IS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). PER ONE OF THE SERVICE ADVISORS I'VE SPOKEN TO IN THE PAST, THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT WHEN ONE BULB BURNS OUT, MORE CURRENT FLOWS TO THE ONE BULB STILL WORKING AND WILL BURN IT OUT PREMATURELY (FURTHERING MY BELIEF THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE). THEY SAID THIS IN RECOMMENDING REPLACEMENT OF BOTH BULBS AT ONCE. WOULD LIKE TO SEE RECALL OR GREATER EFFORT ON SOA'S PART.
ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO I WAS BRAKING FOR A STOP LIGHT. WHILE I WAS BRAKING (FROM ABOUT 35MPH) I RAN OVER SOME BUMPS IN THE ROAD, AT THAT TIME THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE IN FONT OF ME. I DROVE TO A PARKING LOT TO PARK THE CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD LITTLE RESISTANCE GOING TO THE FLOOR AS I PUMPED ON THE PEDAL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER TO BE SERVICED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO MENTIONED THE BRAKES ARE NON EXISTENT AT THAT TIME. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. HOWEVER TODAY (18NOV2015) THE CAR EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. THE CONDITIONS WAS WET. AS I BRAKED TO A STOPLIGHT, I HIT A BUMP AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I FELT THE ABS KICK IN FOR A SPLIT SECOND. THE CAR WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER INSPECTION. I WOULD SUSPECT THEY WONT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
CAR SPUTTERS & STALLS WHEN BRAKING

THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT PROVIDED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V283000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE IN PARK, THE WIPERS WERE ACTIVATED BUT FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUSE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE ENGINE TURNING OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN I AM DRIVING. ESPECIALLY WHEN I GO TO SLOW DOWN. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. FROM DAY ONE.
FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS MY SUBARU LEGACY HAS BEEN STALLING AND LOSING POWER WHEN I ROLL TO A STOP AND/OR WHEN SUDDENLY BRAKING. ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY SEMI TRUCK ON THE FREEWAY AND MULTIPLE TIMES AT STOP LIGHTS IN FOGGY SITUATIONS. SUBARU DEALERSHIP SAID IF IT WAS AN ANNOYANCE I SHOULD BRING IT IN. ALMOST DYING IN A SUBARU WITH MY DAUGHTERS IS MORE THAN AN ANNOYANCE. DEALERSHIP HAS KNOWN ABOUT IT BUT PERFORMED A THROTTLE BODY SERVICE, WHICH WAS FUTILE. ONLINE FORUMS SUGGEST A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER AND A SERVICE#16-90-30. QUOTES FOR REPLACING IT ARE AROUND $2000. SUBARU KNOWS IT IS DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN OF TORQUE CONVERTER...THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED. I USED TO LOVE SUBARUS AND THIS CAR, I AM NOW FORCED TO TAKE A LOSS FINANCIALLY AND BUY A SAFER CAR. COMPLETELY UNSAFE. *TR
REPLACED THE LOW BEAMS FIVE TIMES SINCE 20,000 MILES. THE DRIVER SIDE FOUR TIMES AND THE PASSENGER SIDE ONCE. SUBARU REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM WHEN IT STILL WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY, AROUND 35,000 MILES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY UNTIL 4 OR 5 SECONDS LATER. PRIOR TO THE AIR BAG DEPLOYING, BURNING FUMES EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INDICATE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OR IF ANY INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITH A DELAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. CAR CONTINUES TO STALL WHEN REDUCING SPEED. OCCURS MOSTLY AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS; HOWEVER, HAS OCCURRED WHEN SLOWING FOR TRAFFIC. CAR HAS COMPLETED ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES AS REQUIRED. INITIALLY TOLD TO SERVICE AIR FLOW SENSOR AND HAVE INSPECTED FOR VACUUM LEAK. VEHICLE SERVICE DID NOT RESOLVE STALLING. SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13 SHOWS SUBARU KNOWS THE TORQUE CONVERTER TO BE FAULTY ON THESE VEHICLES, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL UNDER THESE EXACT CONDITIONS. THIS IS CREATING A SAFETY CONCERN ON THESE VEHICLES FOR THE POTENTIAL TO BE REAR ENDED DUE TO STALLING WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SLOW VEHICLE. SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED AND TORQUE CONVERTER SHOULD BE REPLACED BY SUBARU DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH LOW BEAM BULBS SIX TIMES IN A YEAR. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 93,000 MILES ON IT. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A TRIGGERING EVENT AND THE BULBS GO OUT, SEEMINGLY, AT RANDOM - WHICH CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF IT'S DARK OUTSIDE.
I WAS COMING TO A RED LIGHT SLOWING DOWN FROM 15 MPH WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CAR ACTS LIKE SOMETHING IS GRABBING & IT SHUTS DOWN THE MOTOR. THE CAR WAS NOT COLD IT WAS WARMED UP & DROVE ABOUT 28 MILES BEFORE DOING THIS. THE SKID LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS A DRY ROAD. THIS CAR HAS DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE SEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET & HAVE SEEN OTHERS SAYING THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED WITH THEIR SUBARU. ITS SCARY TO THINK THIS MIGHT HAPPEN TO ME ON ONE OF OUR SLICK ROADS GOING OFF A HILL. I HAVE NOT HAD IT CHECKED OUT YET DO TO THE HOLIDAY SEASON. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. I HAVE NOTICED WHILE APPLYING THE BREAKS WHEN IT STARTS FEELING LIKE THE ROTORS ARE GRABBING IF YOU EASE OFF JUST A LITTLE AND THEN APPLY AGAIN THE CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF IT WILL STAY RUNNING. I HAVE SHUT OFF THE SKID PROTECTION AND DROVE IT & STILL IT WILL DO THIS AND THE SKID LIGHT WILL SHOW UP. ON THE INTERNET IT SAYS IT COULD BE THE ICV VALVE. BUT IM NOT SURE THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SKID PROTECTION. I BOUGHT THE CAR THIS SUMMER & I HAD THE DEALER SHIP TO PUT NEW BREAKS AND ROTORS ON IT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. HAD NO TROUBLE AT ALL WITH THIS UNTIL LAST MONTH. I JUST HAD THE OIL AND FILTER CHANGED THIS WEEK. THERE ARE NO SERVICE LIGHTS STAYING LIT. & IT STILL DOES THIS. I WILL BE GETTING THIS CHECKED OUT. A GUY MENTIONED THAT IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC & DOES HAVE THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTERS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR WAS IN THE AUTOMATIC MODE WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT IS NOT DROVE IN THE MANUAL SIDE. IM THINKING I SHOULD TRY DRIVING IN THE MANUAL SIDE TO SEE IF IT WILL DO THIS. I'VE HAD NO COMPLAINTS WITH ANY OF MY OTHER SUBARUS WEVE OWNED. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEM. HOWEVER I HAVE NEVER OWNED ONE WITH THE SKID PROTECTION OR IN THE 2000 MODEL UNTIL THIS ONE. *TR
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. UPON LIGHT ACCELERATION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (AND STAYED ON), PARKING BRAKE LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK, CRUISE CONTROL INDICATOR BEGAN TO BLINK, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. DRIVER DID NOT DETECT ANY SLIPPAGE. AUTHORIZED SUBARU DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) DESPITE COMPUTER CODE INDICATING POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THAT PART. DEALER, HOWEVER, INDICATED OIL FLUSH, RATHER THAN SIMPLY AN OIL CHANGE, WAS NECESSARY DESPITE LESS THAN 5,000 MILES SINCE PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE. DEALER ASSERTED THAT OIL LEVEL WAS NOT LOW, HOWEVER. CAUSE OF WHAT TRIGGERED THE INDICATORS TO BE SET OFF REMAINS UNCLEAR. *TR
I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY HEAD LIGHTS. I AM DISABLED AND THIS HAS BECOME A HUGE PROBLEM AND IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD ADVISE THE NHTSA TO LAUGH AT OR TAKE LIGHTLY. NOT CORRECTING A REOCCURING ISSUE THAT THEIR VEHICLE, WHICH IS PROMOTED TO BE EXTREMELY SAFE AND RELIABLE IS A HUGE MISCONCEPTION. IF THEY ARE OK WITH A DISABLED PERSON OR ANY PERSON DRIVING AT NIGHT EXPECTING THIER LIGHTS TO LAST BECAUSE THEY HAVE JUST HAD THEM CHANGED, JUST TO END UP HAVING TO DRIVE IN THE COMPLETE DARK, IS MORE THAN JUST AN ISSUE. ITS AN ACCIDENT, WHICH COULD END VERY BADLY, WAITING TO HAPPEN.. THIS NEEDS TO MADE A PRIORITY TO FIX FOR ANY 2011 SUBARU LEGACY OWNER. I AM ON MY TOWNS COMMISSION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES WHICH HAPPENS TO BE LOCATED IN THE SAME TOWN THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP IS LOCATED. THIS TOPIC WAS DISCUSSED AT A PREVIOUS MEETING AND IT IS GOING TO BE TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY BY THE BOARD IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY. MULTIPLE OCCURANCES. I HAVE TRIED EVERY AVENUE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I AM CONFIDENT THIS IS NOW A MANUFACTURERS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I AM GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS CORRECTED ONCE AGAIN TODAY AND IF SOMETHING IS TO HAPPEN TOMORROW WHEN I AM DUE TO TRAVEL IN THE DARK, MY FAMILY AND LAWYERS WILL BE HOLDING SUBARU PERSONALLY LIABLE. *TR
ALL 2015 SUBARU LEGACYS, INCLUDING MINE, HAVE A HORSESHOE SHAPED CLOUDY IMAGE ON THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT LENS WHEN THE LOW BEAMS ARE TURNED ON. IT APPEARS TO BE A RESULT OF A REFLECTION FROM THE HEADLIGHT BULB BECAUSE WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF THE CLOUDY IMAGE IS NO LONGER THERE. I NOTICED THE LIGHTS WERE PROJECTING AN INFERIOR BEAM MAKING NIGHT DRIVING MORE DIFFICULT DUE TO THIS CLOUDINESS IN THE PLASTIC LENS COVERING THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. I HAVE CONTACTED A FEW SUBARU SERVICE PEOPLE AND THEY KNOW ABOUT IT BUT SUBARU IS NOT FORTHCOMING WITH ANY INFORMATION. I DID WRITE TO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IN NJ BUT NO ANSWER AS OF YET. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AS IT DOES AFFECT THE LIGHT DISTRIBUTION AND SECONDLY IT LOOKS BAD AS WELL. CHECKING WITH OTHER LEGACY MODELS ON THE CAR LOT HAS SHOWN THEY ALL HAVE THIS SAME IMAGE WHICH I CALL THE "BAT SIGNAL" AS USED IN THE BATMAN MOVIES. I WOULD APPRECIATE A BETTER LIGHTING SYSTEM ON A $25,000 NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN 1000 MILES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *TR
I HAVE A 2011 SUBARU LEGACY LE 3.6R, AND THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT. I WORK AN HOUR AWAY FROM MY HOME AND HAD TO DRIVE MOST OF THE WAY WITHOUT HEADLAMPS BECAUSE THE 2ND ONE BLEW ON THE WAY HOME. WITH ONLY HIGH BEAMS AND DAYTIME RUNNER LAMPS, IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLAMPS TWICE ALREADY. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, IT APPEARS THAT THE HEADLAMPS DRAW TOO MUCH POWER FROM THE WIRING/ELECTRONIC BOARD THAT EVENTUALLY OVERHEATS THE HEADLAMPS CAUSING THEM TO BURN OUT. IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SUBARU INVESTIGATING IT AND HANDING THEIR CUSTOMERS A SOLUTION! *TR
VEHICLE SWAYS SIDE TO SIDE FROM ONE SIDE OF ROAD TO OTHER SIDE OF ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AROUND 60 MPH. WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN ABOUT 45 HAD NOT EFFECT ON STEERING. WHEN DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING PULLS EXTREMELY, UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE GRIPING THE STEERING WHEEL HARD. THE CAR IS BEING PULLED SIDE TO SIDE AT HIGHWAY SPEED 60 MPH CAN NOT GET THE SPEED UP PASS 60 MPH AND HAPPENS IN SLIGHT WINDY CONDITIONS. DEALER IS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM SINCE ALL THE TIRES ARE BRAND NEW, ALIGNMENT IS FULLY PERFECT. SUSPENSIONS ARE PERFECT. *TR
I'VE OWNED MY 2011 SUBARU LEGACY SINCE MAY OF 2011 WITH NO INCIDENTS RELATED TO SPEED CONTROL. LATE AUGUST 2014, I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY OF THE HOME WE'VE LIVED IN FOR 13 YEARS, AND MIDWAY THROUGH THE TURN I HEARD A REVVING NOISE. MY FOOT WAS OFF BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE AND THE CAR UNEXPECTED LURCHED FORWARD AT A HIGH SPEED, CRASHING INTO OUR CHAIN LINK FENCE AND TREE BEFORE BOUNCING BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. AS THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS ALONE IN THE CAR AND THE AIRBAG(S) DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS PROBABLY GOING 25MPH WHEN I HIT THE TREE. THE METAL FENCE POST WAS FLATTENED AND THE TREE HAD A SIGNIFICANT CHUNK OF BARK REMOVED. THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS OR OTHER ON OUR DRIVEWAY OF CONCRETE. I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALER THE TUESDAY BEFORE THE INCIDENT (8 DAYS PRIOR). I'M NOT RULING OUT THAT SOMETHING COULD HAVE BEEN MISTAKENLY TWEAKED OR TAMPERED WITH DURING THIS VISIT. TO TEST THE SPEED CONTROL ISSUE, I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER TO SEE IF ANY TROUBLESHOOTING/ DIAGNOSTICS TEST CAN BE RAN. APPARENTLY IT'S HIGHLY UNLIKELY THE SCENARIO THAT CAUSED IT (IF NOT DRIVER ERROR, WHICH I'M AWARE OF AS A POSSIBILITY) CAN BE RECREATED AND/OR SOLVED. DRIVING ON NEWLY PAVED HIGHWAY AT 80MPH THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE. AT LOWER SPEEDS THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE. *TR
WHEN PARKED ON A STEEP DOWN SLOPE, I ATTEMPTED TO BACK UP IN ORDER THAT I COULD LEAVE AN OUTDOOR CONCERT WHERE I HAD PARKED OFF ROAD.. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN REVERSE EVEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS FROM PARK, NEUTRAL OR REVERSE AND KEPT DRIFTING FORWARD. I TRIED TO ENGAGE REVERSE WITH THE FOOT BRAKE AND EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND IT STILL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE TRANSMISSION STAYED IN DRIVE AND WOULD ONLY GO FORWARD NO MATTER WHAT I DID. THE CAR MOVED 1 FOOT FORWARD WHEN IT WAS IN PARK, EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON AND THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. WHEN IT DID THAT, IT LEFT THE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE LEXUS IN FRONT OF ME ONLY AROUND 6 INCHES. I HAD NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO WAIT FOR THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER CAR TO ARRIVE AND DRIVE AWAY BEFORE I COULD LEAVE. IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND I WAS PARKED IN A FIELD IN A COUNTY PARK, IN ANOTHER INCIDENT, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON AN UPHILL. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ATTEMPTED TO GO FORWARD BUT THE CAR DRIFTED BACKWARDS AND NEARLY CRASHED INTO THE CAR BEHIND ME. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE LIGHT WAS RED, BUT TOOK IT OFF THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATE THE GAS. THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARD AND NEARLY HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME. THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGED AFTER REVVING THE ENGINE STRONG AND BUCKED FORWARD. THIS CAR HAS THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND OTHER SYMPTOMS OF THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ARE LURCHING, BUCKING FROM A ROLLING STOP AND ROUGH IDLING. THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALER INSPECTED MY CAR AND SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AND THAT THE HILL ASSIST BUTTON WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE DO NOT BELIEVE THE DEALER'S STORY BASED UPON THE HUNDREDS OF POSTS OF SUBARU TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND ARE PURSUING A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE STRUTS MOUNTS HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND ARE TIGHT. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THEY MAY STILL BE CRACKED OR BROKEN IN SOME WAY. SIMPLY PUTTING A WRENCH ON THEM AND FINDING THEM TIGHT WILL NOT REVEAL A BROKEN STRUT MOUNT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS OF THE 6 YEARS WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THERE WERE NO SIMILAR ISSUES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,500.
THE 2011 LEGACY HEADLIGHT DESIGN IS POOR. I HAVE GONE THROUGH 4 SETS OF LOW BEAMS AND CURRENTLY REFUSE TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN. I REFUSE TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAMS DUE TO HAVING TO REMOVE THE WHEEL AND INNER WHEEL WELL FOR ACCESS. I KNOW THIS IS NOT JUST ME, I HAVE READ IN MANY OTHER PLACES AND FORUMS THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE HAS A FLAW OF WANDERING WHEN DRIVEN ON HIGHWAYS AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 45 MPH OR LESS, THE STEERING WAS FINE, ALTHOUGH IT WAS CONSIDERABLY STIFFER. IN THE LOWER SPEED RANGE, THE DEAD-BAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NEAR ZERO. HOWEVER, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE DEAD-BAND APPROACHED 1 INCH. THE DEAD-BAND SEEMED TO BE WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO WANDER CONTINUOUSLY FROM ONE SIDE OF THE LANE TO THE OTHER. THE WANDERING ONLY OCCURRED ON A STRAIGHT WELL USED HIGHWAY. ON CURVES, THERE WAS NO WANDERING BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS AT THE EDGE OF THE DEAD-BAND. THE CONSUMER RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME. THE WHEELS WERE ALIGNED, WHICH DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ON THE SECOND VISIT, THE SHOP COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WAS NO STRAIGHT WORN HIGHWAYS CLOSE BY. TUESDAY DEALER NOTIFIED ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING A POWER DRAW AFTER THE WINDOW OR ELECTRONIC BRAKE WERE USED, AND THE FACTORY ADVISED THAT THE COMPUTER WOULD NEED TO BE "RE-FLASHED" BUT CURRENTLY, THERE IS NO RE-FLASH PROGRAM DEVELOPED, AND THERE IS NO TIME LINE AS TO WHEN IT WOULD BE. CONTACTED SUBARU AMERICA CUST. SERV. DISTRICT MANAGER TEST DROVE AND WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE. SO AS FAR AS THE DEALER AND SUBARU ARE CONCERNED, THERE IS NO ISSUE. VEHICLE STILL STALLS INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE HAS VISITED AUTHORIZED REPAIR FACILITY ON THREE OCCASIONS REGARDING ISSUE AND FIRST TWO VISITS REPAIR ATTEMPT MADE IN FORM OF "RE-ZEROING WEIGHT SENSOR" (FIRST ATTEMPT) AND "PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR CALIBRATION PROCEDURE" (SECOND ATTEMPT). THIRD VISIT WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT PART IS PERFORMING WITHIN SUBARU SPECIFICATIONS. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE AND REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, BEFORE ACCELERATING; THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD IN A SHUTTERING MANOR AND THEN LUNGED FORWARD SEVERAL FEET (4-6 FT). THE RPMS SEEMED TO DROP (500-700 RPM) AND THEN SPIKE (1,200-1,500 RPM) WITH NO ACCELERATION AT TIME OF THE INCIDENT. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKE AND STOPPED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. I THEN TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO RUN FINE. THE ENGINE WAS NOT COLD AT THE TIME ON OCCURRENCE; IT HAD BEEN DRIVEN APPROX. 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE INCIDENT. *TR
I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING MY THIRD TOTAL SET OF LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE FIRST YEAR SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. FIRST ONE SIDE THEN THE OTHER BURN OUT, AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO REPLACE THE BULBS SO IT COSTS A LOT OF MONEY. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS, EITHER THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BULBS OR THE INACCESSIBILITY OF THE DESIGN MAKING THEM IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE WITHOUT EXTREME COST. I HAVE USED HIGH QUALITY BULBS AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER. THEY ALL JUST BURN OUT. IT SEEMS LIKE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL PAVED ROAD OUR CAR COULD NOT AVOID A POTHOLE DUE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE IMPACT OF THE POTHOLE WAS SEVERE, THE CAR ALMOST WRECKED. THE POTHOLE WAS NOT HUGE AND THE CAR WAS ONLY GOING 35 TO 40 MPH. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO DETERMINE DAMAGE, IT WAS DECIDED THERE WAS NONE AND WE CONTINUED WITH THE SHORT TRIP, AND THEN BACK HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, WE DISCOVERED THERE WAS A SEVERE SHIMMY IN THE DRIVE TRAIN. AFTER THE WEEKEND, WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER. ONCE INSPECTED, IT WAS DETERMINED THE CAR HAD TWO BENT RIMS ON THE SAME SIDE AS THE POTHOLE. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS THE NATURE OF LOW PROFILE TIRES. I REQUESTED A MEETING WITH A REPRESENTATIVE OF SUBARU. TWO WEEKS LATER, I HAD THAT MEETING. IN THE MEAN TIME, I TOOK THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT REPUTABLE TIRE SHOPS. BOTH OF WHICH HAVE TOLD ME THIS WILL ALWAYS BE AN ISSUE WITH LOW PROFILE TIRES AND PARTICULARLY THIS LEGACY AND THESE RIMS. EACH OF THE TWO SHOPS HAVE HAD NUMEROUS CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUE, RELATED TO HAVING LOW PROFILE TIRES. AS IT HAS BEEN EXPLAINED TO ME, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH RUBBER BETWEEN THE RIM AND THE ROAD TO PREVENT THESE TYPES OF ISSUES FROM HAPPENING. THE TIRE ACTUALLY COLLAPSES AND SQUISHES DOWN COMPLETELY THIS ALLOWS THE RIM TO HIT THE ROAD. MY CONCERN IS THAT HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING ON AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS OR FATAL ISSUE. AFTER MEETING WITH THE SUBARU REPRESENTATIVE, I ASKED WHY SUBARU DID NOT HAVE SOME SORT OF CUSTOMER NOTICE ABOUT THESE LOW PROFILE TIRES AND THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THEM IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. IF THERE WERE CONSUMER AWARENESS OF THESE TIRES, I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE.
