SUBARU OUTBACK LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. PURCHASED 2011 OUTBACK IN NOV 2010. JULY 2011 DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT REPLACED AT DEALER. NOV 2011 PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT REPLACED AT DEALER. JULY 2012 DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT REPLACED AT DEALER. DEALER CHECKED OUT LIGHTING SYSTEM AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. DEC 2012 BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS OUT. CALLED SUBARU CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM (EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE LOTS OF DISCUSSIONS ONLINE). REPLACED AT LOCAL MECHANIC BECAUSE IT WAS 17 DEGREES OUT AND THESE BULBS ARE NOT EASY OR CHEAP TO CHANGE (MY COST WAS $40+ FOR 2 BULBS PLUS $38 FOR MECHANIC INSTALL). IDENTIFIED THAT DEALER BULBS REMOVED WERE PHILIPS. REPLACED WITH SYLVANIA. MARCH 2013 DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT OUT AGAIN. CALLED CORPORATE AGAIN. THEY SUGGESTED TAKING TO LOCAL DEALER (45 MINUTES AWAY) TO HAVE THEM CHECK THE CAR OUT. CORPORATE AND DEALER ARE SORRY TO HEAR OF PROBLEM AND WILL CHANGE THE BULB ... BUT THAT DOESN'T ELIMINATE THE SAFETY ISSUE. IN ADDITION, IT DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF THE HASSLE OR THE COSTS. ON JUNE 30, 2011 AT 11PM I LOOKED OUT OF MY WINDOW AND OUR ENTIRE GARAGE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THIS BUILDING WAS NOT COMPLETED AND HAD NO ELECTRICAL OR HEATING SYSTEM. I BELIEVED AT THAT TIME THAT IT WAS THE CAR(SUBARU) THAT STARTED THE FIRE. ,AS THE INTENSITY OF THE FIRE WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE WHERE IT WAS PARKED.I HAD JUST HAD IT DETAILED THE DAY BEFORE THE FIRE, AS THE DEALERSHIP HAD DONE SOME EXTRA ELECTRICAL WORK AND THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO US FILTHY. I HAD ALWAYS SUSPECTED THAT IT WAS THE SUBARU THAT STARTED THAT FIRE AND A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I RECEIVED A LETTER FORM SUBARU STATING THAT THE "PUDDLE LIGHTS" WIRING COULD OVER HEAR AND START A FIRE. GUESS WHERE I HAD ELEC. WORK DONE?I HAD THE LIGHTED FLOOR BOARD LIGHTS INSTALLED (RIGHT ABOVE THE PUDDLE LIGHTS) THIS FIRE HAS LEFT MY HUSBAND(STILL) VERY DEPRESSED AS WE LOST ALL HIS TOOLS AND EVERYTHING IN THAT GARAGE WHICH INCLUDED ITEMS TO FINISH THE CONSTRUCTION AND MANY VALUABLE PERSONAL ITEMS. I REALIZE THIS IF AFTER THE FACT, BUT AFTER RECEIVING THAT LETTER FORM SUBARU, I FEEL THAT MY SUSPICION IS JUSTIFIED AND THINK THAT SUBARU SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT.THIS BUILDING WAS ERECTED FOR OVER FIVE YEARS AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING IN THERE THAT WOULD OF STARTED THAT FIRE, OTHER THAN THAT CAR. HIGH WINDS CAUSED A LOSS OF STEERING AND THE ENTIRE CAR WAS MOVED AND I ALMOST BLEW INTO A SEMI.THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS IN HIGH WINDS (25- 30MPH AND ABOVE ). INTERNET BLOGGERS CALL THIS " LANE WANDERING" SUBARU REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. I FILED A CLAIM WITH SUBARU OF AMERICA AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS "IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED". I AM PAST THE DATE OF BEING ABLE TO USE THE LEMON LAW. THE ONLY OPTION SUBARU HAS GIVEN ME IS TO TRADE-IN THE CAR WITH A $1500 DISCOUNT TOWARD A NEW ONE. I HESITATE TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN AS THERE IS A TRUST ISSUE AND I CANNOT, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE,SELL THE CAR TO SOMEONE ELSE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.I DID SPEAK TO A GENTLEMAN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HE SAID SUBARU BOUGHT BACK THE CAR FROM HIM, HOWEVER THEY REFUSED TO DO THAT FOR ME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE PADDLE SHIFTERS FOR THE STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECELERATE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT NOT TO USE THE PADDLE SHIFTERS WHILE USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
RECENTLY PURCHASED 2011 OUTBACK SUBURU, BRAND NEW. WITH 1500 MILES, THE DEALER INSPECTED OUR TIRES AND FOUND 3 OUT OF 4 TIRES TO HAVE SIDE WALL BULGES. THE TIRES ARE CONTINENTAL TIRES. THE CALL BACK THIS MORNING FROM THE DEALERS SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT THEY INSPECTED THE NEW CARS ON THEIR LOT AND FOUND SIDEWALL BULGES ALSO SHOWING ON THE TIRES OF NEW INVENTORY. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THIS WAS A RESULT OF EXTRA MATERIAL. AS NEW OWNERS WE FEEL THAT THE OPERATIONAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE IS COMPROMISED WITH AN INTERGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE SHOWING MANUFACTURING DEFECTS, AND AT THIS PRESENT WRITING, NO AVAILABLE RECOURSE OFFERED FROM SUBURA. *TR
I HAVE TOLD THE SUBARU DEALER(S) THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT SAYS "OFF" UNLESS THE PASSENGER WEIGHS OVER 150 LBS OR SO. THE DEALER(S) DENY KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HOWEVER, IT IS ON A SUBARU BLOG AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO TELL ME IF THE AIRBAG IS WORKING OR NOT. MY BRAKE PEDAL MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE SUBARU DEALER TOLD ME HE KNEW THIS HAPPENED TO ALL OF THE 2010 MODELS BUT DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS HAPPENING TO THE 2011 MODELS AND HE SAID THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT UNTIL SUBARU COMES OUT WITH A RECALL. SO FAR I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM SUBARU, IT'S BEEN 5 MONTHS. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE AND VIBRATE. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO RESPOND LATE TO TURNS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN AND VARIOUS SUSPENSION COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG FAILS TO ACTIVATE OR CYCLES ON AND OFF WHILE THE ADULT PASSENGER REMAINS SEATED IN THE PROPER POSITION. DEALER CLAIMS NO DEFECTS DETECTED YET IS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER REPRESENTATIVE IS ALSO UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE IN THE RESOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM EVEN TO THE POINT OF NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS YOU CANNOT RELY ON WHETHER OR NOT THE AIRBAG WILL BE PROPERLY ACTIVATED OR EVEN DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STEERING ASSIST FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SWITCH IRREGULARLY CHANGES STATE WITH LIGHTER OCCUPANT. THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWS OFF EVEN THOUGH OCCUPANT IS WITHIN LIMITS STIPULATED VERBALLY BY SUBARU SALESMAN. THE INDICATOR LIGHT CHANGES STATE WITH OCCUPANT IN SEAT, EVEN THOUGH THE OCCUPANT REMAINED COMPLETELY STILL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK EXCESSIVELY WITH A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TIMING BELT WAS REPLACED. ALSO, THERE WAS A REPLACEMENT OF THE TIMING BELT TENSIONER AND PULLEYS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY PLANNED TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,052.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN, BRAKES, TIRES, LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND A TIRE ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,022 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
FUEL GAUGE FAILS TO SHOW CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK. FUEL GAUGE WILL ONLY SHOW ABOUT 2/3 FULL WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS FULLY FUELED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. MY CAR WHEN MAKING AN ABRUPT STOPS SEEMS TO STALL OUT AND DIE
I PURCHASED A SUBARU OUTBACK (2011). SINCE THAT TIME, I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER OF "SOFT BRAKES." THE CAR DOES NOT STOP IN A TIMELY, OR EFFECTIVE MANNER. I HAVE TO OVERCOMPENSATE FOR ROUTINE STOPPING DISTANCES; AND, YOU CANNOT PANIC STOP. THERE IS AT LEAST 2 INCHES OF PLAY IN THE BRAKE; IT FAILS TO STOP ADEQUATELY IN A SAFE MANNER; AND THE BRAKES ARE SIMPLY UNRESPONSIVE IN AN EMERGENCY STOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BODY TYPE OF THE SEAT OCCUPANT WAS CAUSING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,300.
WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN AUTO MODE THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON AND THEN TURN OFF WHILE GOING UNDER INTERSTATE BRIDGE OVERPASSES. THE HAZARD WITH THIS IS: VEHICLES IN FRONT THINK THEY ARE BEING SIGNALING AT AND THEY SUDDENLY SLOW . ALSO VEHICLES IN ONCOMING LANES THINK THEY ARE BEING SIGNALED AT. THEY SLOW AND STARE. THIS ISSUE I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALERS. THEY KNOW ITS A PROBLEM BUT GIVE NO SOLUTION OR HAVE A CORRECT REPLACEMENT PART.THEY SAY IT IS NORMAL, "ALL SUBARUS DO THIS". THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT THEY HAVE TRIED BUT EITHER THE LIGHTS COME ON TOO SOON OR THEY DON'T COME ON SOON ENOUGH. AT THE HAPPY MEDIUM THEY COME ON AS DESCRIBE ABOVE AT EVERY BRIDGE OVERPASS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD ADDRESS THIS DEFECT. OTHER OWNERS I HAVE TALKED WITH EITHER MANUALLY TURN THEIR LIGHTS ON WHEN NEEDED OR THEY LEAVE THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN THE "ALWAYS ON" POSITION. HEADLIGHTS ARE EXPENSIVE FOR THIS MODEL AND LEAVING THEM ON IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME. SOMETIMES I FORGET TO TURN THEM AND I FIND MYSELF DRIVING IN THE DARK. ALL MY OTHER CARS HAVE AUTO-ON LIGHTS AND NATURALLY WORK PROPERLY. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS DEFECT. IF I WAS PRIVY TO THIS DEFECT I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT A SUBARU. *TR
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK 3.6R - CAR HAS VIBRATION THAT CAN BE MOSTLY FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VIBRATION CAN ALSO BE FELT IN THE SEATS AND FLOOR. VIBRATION COMES AND GOES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. *TR
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK: I INFORMED THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A SHAKING AFTER 45 MPH AND A TRAMPING EFFECT AT LOWER SPEEDS. THEY DID A ROAD FORCE BALANCE AND IT WAS BETTER BUT STILL FELT ANNOYING AND UNSAFE. THEY PUT ON NEW STEERING WHEEL AND NOW IT WAS WORSE. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO ANOTHER TIRE/SERVICE DEALER AND THEY IMPROVED THE SHAKING QUITE A BIT BUT I WOULD STILL LIKE IT FIXED. SUBARU STATES THERE WILL BE A FIX IN A FEW WEEKS BUT READING ALL THESE OLD COMPLAINTS MAKES ME DOUBTFUL. SUBARU SEEMS TO BE AWARE CARS ARE DEFECTIVE AND SHIPS THEM TO DEALERS ANYWAY HOPING A FIX WILL BE FOUND. I NOW WOULD LIKE A BUYBACK FROM SUBARU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING ABNORMALLY WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. ON A LATER DATE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPLODED. THERE WERE DAMAGES TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS RE-EXAMINED. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT THE CONTACT MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING THAT CAUSED THE BALL JOINT TO FRACTURE AND WOULD NOT TAKE ANY LIABILITY FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DOES NOT TURN ON WHEN ADULT FEMALE ~120LBS IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. MINIMUM WEIGHT TO CONSISTENTLY ACTIVATE AIRBAG SEEMS TO BE ABOUT 140LBS. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY RE-CALIBRATED THE PASSENGER SEAT WEIGHT SENSOR BUT THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WERE AWARE OF OTHER CUSTOMERS COMPLAINING OF THIS ISSUE BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE A SOLUTION (AND DID NOT THINK THE RE-CALIBRATION WOULD HELP). THEY ALSO STATED THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM FOR OTHER CUSTOMERS. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I LIMITED ON NOV 30 2010. ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE NEW CAR DEALERSHIP THE STEERING WHEEL HAD A SHIMMY AND THE ENTIRE CAR WAS VIBRATING. THE VIBRATION BEGAN 45MPH AND HAD GOTTEN WORSE AT 65/70MPH. I CONTACTED THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THEY DETERMINED BY TEST DRIVING THE CAR THAT THE FOUR CONTINENTAL PRO CONTACT TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. EVENTUALLY THEY REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITH NEW CONTINENTAL PRO CONTACT. THE CAR IS RIDING MUCH BETTER AND SMOOTHER. THE DEALER WANTED TO INSTALL A VIBRATION DAMPER KIT ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND I DECLINED. I PREFER TO KNOW IF THERE IS A PROBLEM RATHER TO COVER IT UP. I HOPE THIS MAY HELP ANYONE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
1.) 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK PREMIUM - NEW CAR PURCHASE - WITH LESS THAN 300 MILES ON IT. 2.) THE CAR LOSES CONTROL AT UPPER SPEEDS (65MPH+) WHERE IT SWAYS OUT OF CONTROL AS IF AN ICY PATCH WAS HIT. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO SHAKES AT A RAPIDLY LOW FREQUENCY CREATING A NUMBNESS IN THE DRIVER'S HANDS AND FOREARMS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURS EVERY DAY WHEN ABOVE 65MPH. 3.) SUBARU DEALERSHIPS HAVE SAID THEY CAN NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE (HOWEVER THEY DO NOT TAKE THE CAR OUTSIDE THE CITY, THEREFORE THEY ARE NOT DRIVING BEYOND 65MPH). NO PARTS OR REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED ALTHOUGH TIRES WERE CHECKED OVER FOR BALANCE. THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH SUBARU OWNERS FOR THE 2010 AND 2011 MODEL. I KNOW OF OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD TIRES ROTATED, BALANCED, ETC AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED. THOUSANDS OF FORUMS ARE NOW ONLINE IN REGARDS TO THIS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY WHENEVER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANTS WEIGHT WAS 100 POUNDS. THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT COVER ENOUGH VISIBILITY WHILE MOVING FORWARD DOWN ROAD. THERE IS A NOTICEABLE LINE WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS SHINE. THEY BEAM VERY LOW TO THE ROAD SURFACE. WE BROUGHT TO DEALER BECAUSE OF CONCERN THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THAT IS THE WAY THEY ARE. NO RESOLVE. DIFFICULT TO SEE DRIVING IN DARK UNLESS HIGH BEAMS ARE ON. HIGH BEAMS ARE VERY NICE. CONSTANT ADJUSTMENTS ARE NECESSARY AT 70+ MPH TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I NOTICED THIS SOON AFTER TAKING POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEED 70+ MPH ON A 65-68 MILES TRIP TO WORK. I IGNORED THE SITUATION THINKING IT IS NORMAL UNTIL THE VEHICLE ALMOST WANDER INTO A BIG RIG TRUCK IN THE NEXT LANE DURING A LANE PASSING IN OCTOBER 2011. SUBARU DEALER HAS ALREADY PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT IN NOV 2011 WHICH HELPED FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS, BUT THE WANDERING ISSUE APPEARS AGAIN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN IN DEC 2011, BUT THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE ALIGNMENT WAS WITHIN IN SPEC AND DID NOT NOTICE THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP ARGUED AND WAS EVASIVE ABOUT MY COMPLAINT; AND SAID THE SEAT WAS CALIBRATED TO ACTIVATE WITH A 120 POUND PERSON. THEY WERE "INSTRUCTING" ME ON THE PROPER SEATING POSITION. 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK 3.6R LIMITED PURCHASED NEW IN OCTOBER 2010. VEHICLE HAD STEERING/HANDLING ISSUES FROM THE START. EXCESSIVE STEERING WHEEL/TIRE VIBRATION/SHIMMY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WAS IMMEDIATELY EVIDENT. IN ADDITION THE CAR HAD A PULSATION IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY WHEN MAKING SLOW TURNS. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING HAD A "STICK-SLIP" PHENOMENON WHILE NEGOTIATING CURVES IN THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A SERIES OF FIXES RECOMMENDED BY SUBARU OF AMERICA (SOA) INCLUDING NEW TIRES WITH ROAD FORCE BALANCING, STEERING BOX REPLACEMENT BUSHINGS, STEERING HYDRAULIC PUMP REPLACEMENT, REPLACEMENT STEERING WHEEL, AND REPLACEMENT OF STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE VARIOUS FIXES THE TIRE VIBRATION WAS ESSENTIALLY ELIMINATED. HOWEVER, THE STEERING PULSATION/STICKING WAS ONLY AMELIORATED. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT SOA WAS AWARE OF THE STEERING ISSUE AND WAS WORKING ON A SOLUTION, BUT THAT NOTHING FURTHER COULD BE DONE WITH MY VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. THE CONDITION I HAVE DESCRIBED IS, IN MY OPINION, A DANGEROUS ONE. WHILE DRIVING WINDING COUNTRY ROADS IN THE RAIN THERE IS A DISTINCT LOSS OF FEEL FOR THE ROAD, SIMILAR TO ENCOUNTERING A MOMENTARY PATCH OF ICE. OUR 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK WAS PURCHASED NEW IN SUMMER 2010 AT CONTINENTAL MOTORS, ANCHORAGE, ALASKA. THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW-BEAM ERRATICALLY DIMMED AND AFTER THREE SERVICE REQUESTS OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS THE DEALER FINALLY AGREED THAT MY COMPLAINT WAS VALID AND REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. I'VE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE PASSENGER SITS, AND PUTS THEIR FEET DIRECTLY ON THE FLOOR, THE PASSENGER'S KNEES AND UPPER THIGH RIGHT ABOVE THE KNEE DO NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH THE SEAT. WHEN SITTING IN THIS POSITION, THE AIRBAG WILL REMAIN IN THE OFF POSITION. WHEN THE PASSENGER SITS, WITH LEGS FULLY EXTENDED, SO THAT THE KNEE AND UPPER THIGH MAKE BETTER CONTACT WITH THE SEAT, THE AIRBAG IS ENABLED. YOU DON'T NOTICE IT AS MUCH AT A LOWER SPEED, BUT WHEN YOUR SPEED INCREASES YOU SURE CAN. THEY ARE TELLING ME THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. HOW IS THAT? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE; HOWEVER, HE CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. HE CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE BALANCED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. AT 72,000 MILES, THE 3.6 LITRE ENGINE HAS BEGUN TO PUSH OIL OUT OF THE ENGINE. MY MECHANIC SAID IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT THEIR ENGINES DO THIS. I SEE WHERE NEWER MODEL OWNERS WON A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU WHO KNEW THEIR ENGINES ARE FAULTY AND PUSH OR BURN OIL. I BELIEVE MORE MODEL YEARS SHOULD BE COVERED IN A COMPLAINT.
