I HAVE EXPERIENCE CASE OF MULTIPLE SPONTANEOUS CRACKED WINDSHIELDS.
WINDSHIELD CRACKS
I OWN A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACK FOR NO REASON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE IT SAFELITE GLASS WAS IN ABLE TO RECALIBRATE THE EYESIGHT CAMERA. THEY TRIED TO SWITCH THE AFTERMARKET WINDSHIELD WITH AN OEM WINDOW AND IT DIDN'T WORK AND SENT ME TO THE SUBARU DEALER TO RECALIBRATE. THIS DIDN'T WORK EITHER SO THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE EYESIGHT CAMERA. SAFELITE STAYED THIS HAPPENS A LOT WHEN THEY REPLACE WINDSHIELDS BECAUSE THE CAMERAS ARE NOT PROTECTED SO IF A LITTLE DUST GETS ON IT WHILE THEY CHANGE THE WINDSHIELD IT CAN SCREW UP THE CAMERAS ABILITY TO RECALIBRATE. THEY ALSO ADVISE IT'S A KNOW ISSUE WITH SUBARU'S BUT THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE IT
TWO TIRE BLOW OUTS CAUSING IMMEDIATE LOSS OF AIR. CAR WAS TRAVELLING AT APPROX 35 MPH. EACH TIME ON A CITY STREET. FIRST AT 4000 MILES. SECOND AT 21000 MILES. TIRE HAD CIRCUMFERENTIAL CRACK AT BOTTOM OF TIRE GROOVE. ORIGINAL OEM TIRES. CAR PURCHASED NEW IN SEPT 2017.
WE HAVE 2 CRACKS THAT CONTINUE TO GROW ON OUR WINDSHIELD. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A WINDSHIELD CRACK IN THIS WAY IN OVER 50 YEARS OF DRIVING. THE CRACKS GROW OVERNIGHT IN THE GARAGE!!
BOUGHT CAR NEW, 7 MILES ON ODOMETER. TOOK CAR INTO AUTONATION SUBARU - CENTENNIAL COLORADO FOR NOISE COMPLAINT IN DRIVER-SIDE FRONT WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP. MISSING PARTS WERE NOTICED BY SHOP. SHOP SAID IT WAS COMPLETELY FIXED, BUT WE STILL HAD THIS NOISE, IT WAS JUST QUIETER. VEHICLE FELT LIKE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF, AS IT SHAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CAR MAKES TIRE SQUEALING NOISE WHEN TURNING IN AND OUT OF PARKING SPOTS AT LOW SPEEDS. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER SHOP MANY TIMES FOR OVER 1 YEAR. SHOP ALWAYS INSISTED NO ALIGNMENT WAS NEEDED, FRONT-END WAS IN GOOD REPORT, TIRES WERE IN GOOD BALANCE, AND ROTATION WAS NOT NEEDED. SHAKING PERSISTS, 20K MILES LATER DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE IS WORN DOWN TO ALMOST STEEL ONLY ON IN-SIDE OF TIRE; ALL OTHER TIRES HAVE AT LEAST 6/32NDS ON TREAD (SEE ATTACHED PHOTO: OUT-SIDE OF TIRE IS THICK TREAT LIKE ALL OTHER TIRES, IN-SIDE TREAT IS GONE). ORIGINAL TIRES. NO MODIFICATIONS TO CAR. SERVICED ONLY AT SUBARU DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE SHAKES SO BAD NOW IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR MIGHT FALL APART. I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE HAVING MY PREGNANT WIFE DRIVE OUR ONLY VEHICLE. HELP! NOT FAIR TO BUY A NEW CAR WITH MISSING PARTS AND SAFETY ISSUES.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED A SECOND TIME JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE NEW WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. THE PEBBLE THAT HIT THE WINDSHIELD WASN'T LARGE ON EITHER OCCASION. THE DEALERSHIP CHARGES A LARGE FEE TO CALIBRATE THE EYE SIGHT FEATURE AND THAT CAN ONLY BE DONE AT A DEALERSHIP SO WE CAN'T GET A BETTER/STRONGER WINDSHIELD ANYWHERE ELSE NOR PURCHASE A COMPETITIVELY PRICED ONE. IT FEELS LIKE SUBARU IS MAKING GOOD MONEY OFF OF DEFECTIVE WEAK WINDSHIELDS. IN MY PREVIOUS CAR, A MAZDA 3, I DROVE FOR 12 YEARS WITHOUT A SINGLE CRACK. IN A NEW SUBARU, IT'S HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A YEAR. BOTH TIMES I WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS BETWEEN 65-70 MPH. BOTH ROCKS WHERE SMALL. THE FIRST TIME WAS BETWEEN CITIES DRIVING BACK FROM LUBBOCK TO DALLAS WHEN A TRUCK SLOWED TO THE RIGHT FOR ME TO PASS. THE 2ND TIME WAS WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE TOLLWAY IN A MIDDLE LANE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, A SMALL PEBBLE WAS KICKED UP FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF US AND BOUNCED OFF OUR WINDSHIELD. IT LEFT A TINY CHIP THE SIZE OF A PINHEAD. WE REPORTED IT IMMEDIATELY AND TOOK IT FOR REPAIR WITHIN TWO HOURS OF THE INCIDENT AT SAFE LITE. TWO DAYS LATER, THERE WAS A GIANT CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. WE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF NEARLY $1000, $500 OUT OF POCKET.
ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2019 AT ABOUT 1 PM MST I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON ARIZONA ROUTE 89, JUST NORTH OF THE RT 64 INTERSECTION. I WAS ON A DIVIDED SECTION OF PAVED HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT NO MORE THAN 40 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AHEAD OF ME AND NONE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A POP IN MY FRONT WINDSHIELD AND A CRACK APPEARED ABOUT A THIRD OF THE WAY UP ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHEN I STOPPED LATER TO EXAMINE THE WINDSHIELD I COULD SEE NO EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING STRIKING THE GLASS. THERE WAS NO DEBRIS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE PAVEMENT WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE CRACK EXPANDED HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE WINDOW. I HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED AT THE GREELEY SUBARU DEALER ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27.
BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DISCHARGED AT LEAST 3 TIMES. ON ONE OCCASION I WAS IN A VERY REMOTE LOCATION AND I WAS FORTUNATE TO FIND SOMEONE WHO PROVIDED A JUMP. THE OTHER TWO TIMES WERE IN MY GARAGE. FOR ALL THREE OF THESE OCCASIONS I LOOKED FOR A CAUSE LIKE A LIGHT LEFT ON OR SOME OBVIOUS BATTERY DRAIN AND I FOUND NONE. THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A MYSTERY TO ME. I GREW UP IN AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS A MECHANIC IN THE US ARMY SO I'M NOT EXACTLY A NOVICE OR INEXPERIENCED ABOUT THESE SORTS OF ISSUES. ALL OF THESE EVENTS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED.
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED, STARTING AT THE BOTTOM MIDDLE, AND SPREADING UP AND THEN IN ALL DIRECTIONS. THERE IS NO POINT OF IMPACT AND THE CRACK STARTED WHILE PARKED INT THE DRIVEWAY, AWAY FROM THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (2 LANE HIGHWAY) AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND ME, AND NO VEHICLE NEAR TO THROW UP A ROCK. I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. I ONLY RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THESE WINDSHIELDS DO THIS ON THEIR OWN. DEFECTIVE.
MY 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELD CRACKED AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF LIMITED USE. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING, NOR DID ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD. AS OF LATE, OTHER CRACKS HAVE STARTED TO FORM AND GROW ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THEY ARE SO SEVERE, THAT I MUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE GLASS AS IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION OTHERWISE. I HAVE HEARD OTHER CLAIMS FROM SUBARU OWNERS AND WISH THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD FINALLY RECALL THE FAULTY PRODUCT AND SUPPLY US WITH A QUALITY PRODUCT LIKE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO.
TWO SEPARATE INSTANCES OF A CRACK HAVE FORMED WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CONDITIONS WITHOUT A NOTABLE INCIDENT CONNECTED TO THE CRACKS. THE INITIAL CRACKS WERE NOTICED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. WAS NOT HOT BY ANY OBJECT. SUBARU OUTBACK 2018. CRACK INITIATED BELOW DRIVERS SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER.
WINDSHIELD IS VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO CHIPPING FROM THE SMALLEST STONE FRAGMENTS, THEN EASILY SPREADS. WE HAD IT REPLACED ALONG WITH RECALIBRATION OF THE EYE SIGHT. COST WAS 697.00 PRIOR TO THAT ANY TIME YOU WOULD HEAR THE FAINTEST SOUND OF SOMETHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD YOU WOULD SEE A TINY CHIP MARK. I HAVE BEEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR BUSINESS FOR 30 YEARS AND DRIVEN MANY VEHICLES IN MY 62 YEARS AND THIS WINDSHIELD BY FAR IS THE MOST FRAGILE. EVEN THE NEW WINDSHIELD HAS CHIP MARKS AND IS ONLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS OLD.
DIVING 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY WHEN CAR STARTED TO HARD SHUDDER, LOSE ACCELERATION. ENGINE LIGHT AND ALL OTHER WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. DIFFICULT TO STEER AND BRAKE. ABLE TO BARELY PULL OFF ROAD SAFELY AND AVOID GUARD RAIL. NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS NOTED.
CRACK DEVELOPED ON WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT IMPACT OF ANYTHING.
SUBARU OUTBACK 2008 PULLS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT BY ITSELF INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN IT HAPPENS, CAR SPEED IS ALWAYS > 45 MPH AND THE ISSUE IS THE MOST OBVIOUS ON HIGHWAYS WITH A SPEED > 60 MPH. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING HAS ITS OWN IDEA. SOMETIMES WHEN I WANT TO CURVE TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING TURNS BY ITSELF TO THE RIGHT AND SOMETIMES EVEN STAYS THERE. SOMETIMES WHEN I DON'T WANT TO TURN, IT TURNS. THIS IS NOT RELATED TO LANE ASSISTANCE. THE FEATURE IS TURNED OFF AND THE ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN I DRIVE IN THE LANE. I STRONGLY FEEL UNSAFE AND A BIT NERVOUS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY RECENTLY. AT THE HIGH SPEED, A SLIGHT TURN MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. HOPE SUBARU COULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. A GOOGLE SEARCH TODAY SHOWED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MODEL ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME, POTENTIALLY DAMAGING ISSUE.
THE WINDSCREEN CRACKED ABOUT TWO INCHES. ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FROM THE TOP DOWN IN A STRAIGHT LINE. NO OTHER VEHICLES NEAR ME. I DID NOT NOTICE THAT ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSCREEN. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY SIXTY MILES PER HOUR EASTBOUND ON INTERSTATE 270 JUST EAST OF INTERSTATE 70. ABOUT 7:30 IN THE MORNING.
DURING 4TH WEEK AUGUST 2019, I MADE AN EMERGENCY STOP ON THE SHOULDER ON INTERSTATE 90. THERE WAS USUAL TRAFFIC, NOT SURE IF THERE WAS A TINY ROCK WHICH CAME FLYING ON MY WINDSHIELD, I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY NOISE NOR I HAVE SEEN ANY CHIPPING. THE NEXT MORNING I WOKE UP TOO SEE A TINY CRACK, IMMEDIATELY I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AND LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT COST'S, BUT AS IT WAS WEEKEND, I WASNT ABLE TO GET A SLOT. 2 DAYS LATER I SEE A NICE FINE CRACK ACROSS THE SCREEN, THIS WAS A BAD SURPRISE FOR ME, I USED A MAZDA FOR 3 YEARS BEFORE AND DEFINITELY TRAVELED A LOT, WITH TINY ROCKS FLYING ON THE WINDSHIELD, BUT IT NEVER EVER CRACKED. WITH SUBARU I AM SHOCKED, I FELT GLASS QUALITY TO BE EITHER FRAGILE OR COMPOSITION OF WINDSHIELD GLASS MAY BE COMPROMISED(OR POOR). I AM NOT SURE IF THE COMPANY HAS NOTICED THIS COMPLAINTS. WHEN I SPOKE TO 3RD PARTY GLASS VENDOR HE TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE MANY SUBARU OUTBACKS WHICH HAD SEEN SIMILAR ISSUES. ON TOP OF IT, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A CHARGE OF ~250$ TO ADJUST SMART LENS, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS, SO IN SUMMARY WHEN A WINDSHIELD CRACKS IT TAKES 350$ GLASS + 250$ LENS CORRECTION = 600$, WHICH I FEEL IS HIGHLY IN-JUSTIFIED. THERE HAS TO BE SOMEONE WHO NEEDS TO TAKE A LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE COMPANY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO KUPPER SUBARU (805 E MAIN ST, MANDAN, ND 58554) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING ACCORDING TO DESIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,092.
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY SUBARU OUTBACK LIMITED 2018 THAT I JUST BOUGHT ON JUNE 15, 2018 SUDDENLY CRACKED WHILE DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE 80 FROM OMAHA, NE TO ATLANTIC, IA WITH MY MOM ON NOVEMBER 10, 2018. THE CRACK STARTED ON THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AND CONTINUED STRAIGHT UPWARD UNTIL IT REACHED ABOUT HALF THE LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD. I CONTACTED SUBARU AND IT SAID THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT COVERED IN THE POLICY SO I HAD TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF OR HAVE MY CAR INSURANCE PAY. I ENDED UP GETTING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED BY DETER MOTORS IN ATLANTIC IA ON NOVEMBER 23, 2018. THEN ON AUGUST 25, 2019 WHILE DRIVING TO DES MOINES, IA ON INTERSTATE 80 WITH MY THEN FIANCEE, MOM, AND SISTER, THE WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY CRACKED AGAIN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS CRACK STARTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE BOTTOM AND CONTINUED UPWARD ABOUT 7 INCHES AT FIRST. THE CRACK HAS SINCE GROWN IN SIZE AND LENGTH. I CONTACTED SUBARU AGAIN AND WAS GIVING THE SAME ANSWER IN THAT THEY DON'T COVER WINDSHIELDS. I HAVE YET TO BE FIXED AS I WAS QUITE FRUSTRATED WITH TWO CRACKED WINDSHIELDS IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. I STARTED TO LOOK ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WERE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AND FOUND THAT YES, MANY ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING CRACKED WINDSHIELDS FOR NO APPARENT AND/OR OBVIOUS REASONS. I DO WANT TO GET THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED BUT AM WORRIED THAT IT'LL JUST CRACK AGAIN. I DO HAVE RECORD OF THE FIRST WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT FROM DETER MOTORS. I ALSO HAVE PICTURES OF THE 2ND CRACK AND WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PROVIDE THEM.
CAR DEVELOPED A CRACK ON WINDSHIELD OVERNIGHT WHILE PARKED IN AN INDOOR PARKING GARAGE. A FEW DAYS LATER CRACK GREW IN SIZE AGAIN WHILE PARKED IN A DIFFERENT INDOOR PARKING GARAGE. CAR HAS ~33,000 MILES AND WAS NOT HIT BY ANY ROAD DEBRIS.
I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD DOESN'T KNOW HOW IT'S HAPPENED. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALER. THEY SUGGESTED FIXING THE ISSUE WITH INSURANCE. I DON'T KNOW WHY SUBARU IS VERY CARELESSLY HANDLING THE QUALITY OF WINDSHIELD EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE FOCUSING MORE OTHER SAFETY FEATURES.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHEN PARKED IN DRIVEWAY
CAR WAS IN MOTION AND A LOUD POP IN THE WINDSHIELD AREA WAS HEARD. AFTER ARRIVING HOME THERE IS A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD BY THE WIPER BLADES THAT HAS EXTENDED ABOUT 6INCHES UP. THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE ROCK OR FOREIGN OBJECT THAT HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH SUBARU WINDSHIELDS FROM WHAT I KEEP READING.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 8/10/19 A VERY SMALL STONE HIT THE WINDSHIELD IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER. WITHIN 10 MINUTES A LARGE CRACK HAD FORMED FROM THE EXTREME LEFT EDGE TO THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVER VISION SECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD. BY THE NEXT MORNING THE CRACK HAD EXTENDED TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS A VERY SMALL CHIPPED AREA WHERE THE STONE HIT, BARELY VISIBLE. I EVEN HAD ZURICHSHIELD GLASS PROTECTION APPLIED TO PROTECT THE WINDSHIELD, WHICH WAS USELESS. ABOUT 21,200 MILES ON THE CAR. I PREVIOUSLY HAD A HONDA PILOT THAT WOULD HAVE PITS, EVEN A CRATER FROM STONES, BUT NEVER A CRACK. I'VE OWNED MANY CARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A CRACK UNTIL NOW. VERY DISAPPOINTED A SMALL PELLET HITTING THE WINDSHIELD RESULTED IN A CRACK THAT WAS SO BIG THAT I HAD TO ENTIRELY REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. MY CAR IS ONLY 1 YEAR OLD, AND A SMALL STONE COST ME OVER $500, PLUS THE COST OF A PROTECTANT PROGRAM THAT FAILED AS WELL. DEALER (WILLIAMS SUBARU) SAID IT WAS AN AUTO INSURANCE ISSUE, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, OR UNDER THE ZURICHSHIELD (FIXES UP TO 6 INCH CRACK- MINE NEVER QUIT GROWING), THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. I'M CHECKING INTO GETTING A REFUND ON THE ZURICHSHIELD POLICY...
AT 13,000 MILES CAR STEERING PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT WITHOUT DRIVER PERFORMING THIS ACT. FEELS LIKE CAR IS HYDROPLANING OR AFFECTED BY HIGH WINDS WHEN NEITHER CONDITION IS PRESENT. PRESENTS DANGER AS DRIVER HAS NO CONTROL AS TO WHEN THIS HAPPENS OR WHAT DIRECTION IT WILL GO. OCCURS AT ALL SPEEDS BUT WORSENS AFTER 50MPH. RESEARCH SHOWS THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME SITUATION WITH OTHER SUBARU CARS. MY DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BUT SUGGESTED TO MANUAL TURN OFF LANE ASSIST. I PERFORMED THIS ACTION TO NO AVAIL - THE PROBLEM CONTINUES . HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS AT 25 MPH AS WELL AS ON HIGHWAYS. WHILE FIRST INCIDENT WAS AUGUST 5, 2019 IT NEVER STOPPED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK EQUIPPED WITH FOUR BRIDGESTONE DUELER HP SPORT AS TIRES, SIZE: 225/60/R18 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL POPPING NOISE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WERE LINES FROM THE BEAD TO THE THREAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE POLICE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,927 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE WINDSHIELD BREAKS FROM EITHER NOTHING AT ALL OR EVEN THE SLIGHTEST ROCK DING. WE'VE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD TWICE IN UNDER ONE YEAR
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKS AND SHATTERS FOR NO REASON. I HAVE NOW REPLACED TWO WINDSHIELDS AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREAK, EVEN THOUGH NO IMPACTS WITH FLYING DEBRIS OCCURRED. MANY OUTBACK OWNERS REPORT SIMILAR THINGS HAPPENING. THERE IS SOMETHING DEFECTIVE WITH THE WINDSHIELD THAT CAUSE THEM TO BE FRAGILE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE REFERRED TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.
WINDSHIELD CRACKS FOR NO APPARENT REASON ON A NEW SUBARU. DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, WHILE IT WAS HOT OUTSIDE. NO ROCKS JUST A CRACK STARTING UNDER THE WIPER BLADE.
SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED/EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT IMPACT OR OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 86 DEGREES AT THE TIME. WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON AN INTERSTATE. NOTHING WAS OVERHEAD. GLASS EXPLODED UP AND OUT.
IN A PERIOD OF LESS THAN 1 YEAR, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THREE WINDSHIELDS CRACKING FROM NORMAL DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE DRIVEN FOR OVER 55 YEARS IN SEVERAL VEHICLES AND HAVE BEEN HIT BY ROAD DEBRIS OR ROCKS NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS WILL NORMALLY LEAVE A PIT OR STAR WHICH CAN BE REPAIRED, I NEVER HAVE HAD A VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD CRACK, ALL THE WAY ACROSS WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT. NOT ONCE, BUT THREE TIMES IN A 5 MONTH PERIOD. I FEEL THESE WINDSHIELDS ARE NOT SAFE FOR MY FAMILY TO BE IN. IF THEY CRACK WITH A PEBBLE, WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. THE FIRST WINDSHIELD CRACKED COMING BACK FROM THE GRAND CANYON VISIT. THE SECOND TIME, NEW REPLACEMENT WINDOW FROM SUBURU, CRACKED FROM LITTLE OR UNKNOWN STRIKE 2 MONTHS LATER. SUBURU REPLACED THAT WINDOW AT THEIR COST. 2 MONTHS LATER DURING JULY HEAT, A SMALL ROCK PICKED OFF THE ROAD AND THE WINDOW CRACKED IN A BACKWARD C SHAPE. SUBURU DENIES ANY LIABILITY FROM ROAD HAZARDS, AND WILL NOT CONSIDER THEY HAVE LESS QUALITY PRODUCT AS IT WAS APPROVED. READING SEVERAL BLOGS AND ONLINE COMMENTS ALERTED ME THAT THIS WAS VERY COMMON AND THEY HAD PAST ISSUES WITH THEIR WINDSHIELDS. WHO CAN I SPEAK TO?
IN THE FIRST 1.5 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD TWICE. IT CRACKED THE FIRST TIME WHILE STATIONARY IN OUR DRIVEWAY IN THE COLD AND WAS REPLACED A FEW MONTHS LATER. ONE WEEK AFTER IT WAS REPLACED IT CRACKED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH NO VEHICLES WITHIN 500 FEET OF THE CAR. I'VE READ AND HEARD FROM OTHER OWNERS THIS PROBLEM IS ONE THAT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE OUTBACKS OF THIS MODEL YEAR.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO REASON ON JULY 25,2019. PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HEADED DOWN THE STREET WHEN IT WAS STARTING TO CRACK. TOKE A PICTURE WHEN I GOT TO WORK. FIRST TIME IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING TO EVER HAVE A WINDSHIELD CRACK.
BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN A YEAR OF OWNING THE CAR AS IT WOULD NOT START AND COULD NOT BE RECHARGED. SINCE REPLACEMENT I HAVE HAD A FEW TIMES WHEN THE CAR WOULDN'T START AGAIN. *TR
WINDSCREEN IS EASILY CRACKED BY ANY PEBBLES THAT KNICK THR SHIELD. FIRST TIME THE SCREEN WAS HIT BY A PEBBLE FROM A MOVING VEHICLE AND THE CRACK SPREAD ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE SCREEN. HAD TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER SUBARU GLASS. NOT EVEN 2 WEEKS IN ANOTHER PEBBLE HITS AND CHIPS..THEN A COUPLE WEEKS LATER AGAIN, ANOTHER PEBBLE CRACKS THE SCREEN. ANYTHING THAT HITS THE GLASS SEEMS TO PUT KNICKS AND CRACKS. OTHER CARS WE'VE OWNED HAVE BEEN HIT HARDER AND NOT HAD ANY DAMAGE. NOT SURE WHAT THESE SUBARU GLASS SCREENS ARE MADE OF, BUT I ASSUME THE MOST DELICATE OF MATERIALS NOT SUITED FOR WINDSHIELD USE. ALL TIMES HIT WITH ROCKS FROM MOVING VEHICLES WHILE MY CAR WAS ALSO IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY.
BATTERY ON CAR JUST GOES DEAD. PUT 3RD BATTERY IN CAR BEFORE IT WAS 3 YEARS OLD. SEVERAL TIMES, WE NOTICED THAT REAR HATCH MOTOR DOES NOT SHUT OFF - JUST KEEPS RUNNING. THEN IF YOU START CAR AGAIN & IMMEDIATELY TURN IT OFF - REAR HATCH MOTOR STOPS RUNNING. BEEN TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES & SENT LETTER TO SUBARU CUSTOMER ADVOCACY DEPT - THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE CAR HAS A PROBLEM. OFFERED TO PAY FOR EXTENDED LIFE BATTERY. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, CAR WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE OVERNIGHT - HAVING BEEN LOADED THE PREVIOUS NIGHT TO LEAVE EARLY THE NEXT MORNING ON VACATION - CAR WOULDN'T START AND BATTERY COULDN'T EVEN BE RECHARGED. ONE TIME BACKED CAR OUT OF GARAGE, TURNED IT OFF, THEN WHEN TRIED TO START IT 5 MINUTES LATER, BATTERY WAS DEAD. WE WERE ABLE TO RECHARGE IT, BUT SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK IT TO DEALER WHERE IT FAILED THE BATTERY TEST AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. VEHICLE DEEMED UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE TO US, AS YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL START. BEEN TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY ARE DOING NOTHING TO GET TO ROOT CAUSE OF PROBLEM - JUST PUT ANOTHER BATTERY IN CAR. CAR HAS 25,000 MILES AND WARRANTY EXPIRED ON 2/24/2021. ATTACHED ARE DETAILS FROM 2 DEALER VISITS AND LETTER TO CUSTOMER ADVOCACY DEPT. FIRST TIME BATTERY FAILED, WE REPLACED BATTERY BECAUSE IT WAS IMPACTING OUR VACATION. WE HAD EXPRESSED CONCERNS ABOUT BATTERY ON 7/19 DEALER VISIT, AND BATTERY THEN DIED ON 10/19. SUBARU REFUNDED US THE COST OF THE BATTERY.
The vehicle was parked with no one driving at the time and the windshield developed a crack in the glass for no apparent reason "while parked". There was no road hazard or reason for the crack to occur and the vehicle was not even in motion, and I could not understand why it happened, until I began reading the incidents online about multiple other owners experiencing the same issue. I replaced the windshield almost immediately to avoid further cracking and issues with visibility and having to look past the crack. Cost $333.40 to replace.
WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK DRIVER SIDE BOTTOM CORNER, WITH NO CHIP OR REASON FOR THE CRACK
HEADUNIT, INCLUDING BACKUP CAMERA, HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE FOR OVER SIX WEEKS. A REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN ON ORDER WITH THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALER FOR FIVE WEEKS.
A LARGE CRACK, LIKE THE SHAPE OF A QUESTION MARK, SPONTANEOUSLY APPEARED IN MY WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK STARTS BELOW THE WINDSHIELD WIPER, UP ABOUT 7 INCHES AND CURVES BACK DOWN. CAR WAS MOVED OUT OF OUR GARAGE AND PARKED IN DRIVEWAY WHEN THE CRACK APPEARED!!!!!
DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK USING KEY IN KEY HOLE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FROM ALL THE ONLINE COMMENTS AND IS ON ALL SUBARU MODELS. BEING LOCKED OUT OF THE CAR FOR SAFETY OR WEATHER CONDITIONS CAN PUT ONE'S LIFE IN EXTREME DANGER. ARE IS STATIONARY. DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK USING KEY IN DOOR.
WHEN DRIVING AT 43 MILES OR ABOVE THE STEERING HAS A FEEL OF THAT YOU HIT A GUST OF WIND OR YOU HIT A PATCH OF ICE ON HIGHWAY THE CAR DOES NOT FEEL STABLE
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 6/21/19. ON 7/1/19 A SMALL STARBURST CRACK APPEARED ON PASSENGER SIDE OF WINDSHIELD. I FIRST NOTICED THIS WHILE DRIVE ON HIGHWAY. WITHIN 2 DAYS, THE CRACK HAD SPREAD ACROSS 3/4 OF THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. (THERE WAS NO APPARENT IMPACT FROM ANY OBJECT). THE WINDSHIELD WAS TOTALLY REPLACED AND RECALIBRATED ON 7/15/19. ON 8/30/19 THE SAME THING OCCURRED. A SMALL STARBURST APPEARED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF WINDSHIELD , WHICH SOON SPREAD ACROSS THE DRIVERS VIEW. I NOTICED THE CRACK WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN THE GARAGE. I AM AWAITING SERVICE FROM SAFELITE NOW. SUBARU SAYS IT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE...WINDSHIELD CRACKS WITHOUT ANY OBJECT IMPACTING IT! I CANNOT BE REPLACING MY WINDSHIELD EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS.
