TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND BECAME VERY UNSTABLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500. *BF*JB
FUEL DELIVERY PROBLEM. SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING UP FROM A STOP SIGN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS NO POWER AND YOU HAVE TO HIT THE ACCELERATOR A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET THE CAR TO RESPOND. SOMETIMES THIS OCCURS AT LOW SPEED GOING LEFT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS NO POWER AND YOU HAVE TO HIT THE ACCELERATOR A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET IT TO RESPOND. THE ENGINE NEVER STALLS OUT. ON THE EXPRESSWAY IT DROPPED OUT OF CRUSE TWICE. I PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN TO CROSS INTO TRAFFIC AND IT HAD POWER AT FIRST AND THEN NO POWER. I WAS THEN IN A PANIC MODE PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR AND FINALLY IT RESPONDED. THIS IS WHY I THINK IT IS SERIOUS.
STEREO OUTPUT ABRUPTLY CHANGED FROM ALL SPEAKERS AT NORMAL VOLUME, TO ONE SPEAKER AT INCREASED VOLUME. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION IN AN URBAN SETTING. THIS KIND OF RANDOM VOLUME CHANGE FROM THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING CAN BE QUITE JARRING AND SURPRISING.
SUDDEN CRACKING OF THE WINDSHIELD. NO ROCKS OR PEBBLES HIT THE WINDSHIELD. IN THE MORNING I ENTERED MY VEHICLE (THAT WAS STATIONARY ALL NIGHT) AND NOTICED A 2 INCH CRACK THAT DIDN'T EXIST THE DAY BEFORE. BY AFTERNOON, THE CRACK GREW TO ALMOST HALF THE WINDSHIELD AND WE NEEDED TO REPLACE IT. GLASS CLAIM WAS PLACED VIA GEICO WHO REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD.
THE FRONT WINDSHIELD DEVELOPS CRACKS AND STAR CHIPS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. HAD IT REPAIRED WITH HANSON AUTO GLASS 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IN THE 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. ONLY ABLE TO FIND 2 OF 3 PICTURES OF REPAIR PAPERWORK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE CONTACT NOTICED A CRACK ON THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE CENTER ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
2018 SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE ON HIGHWAY. NO APPARENT STONE HIT IT. REPLACED ON 3/5/2019. FRIEND SENT ME A WEBSITE WHERE IT WAS NOTED THAT MULTIPLE OTHERS SUBARU OWNERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME OCCURRENCE. IT STATED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU. I AM UNABLE TO SCAN OR UPLOAD REPAIR PAPERWORK BUT I HAVE MY RECEIPT FROM THE REPAIR. *TR
BATTERY DIES PREMATURELY, IF VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS, OR IF PARKED AND REAR HATCH IS OPENED AND CLOSED A FEW TIMES. DEAD BATTERY LEFT ME STRANDED FIVE TIMES SINCE 3/5/2019. BATTERY TESTED WELL AT DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES, SO WAS NOT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL IT FAILED A DRAW TEST.

STARTED CAR THIS MORNING AND THE UNIT THAT CONTROLS THE RADIO, BACKUP CAMERAS, NAVIGATION AND BLUETOOTH IS BLANK AND UNRESPONSIVE.. DEAD. CAR IN GARAGE WHEN STARTING. CAR DRIVES FINE EXCEPT FOR ABOVE DEFICITS
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ONE DAY HEARD A CRACK. PARKED THE CAR AND AFTER A FEW HOURS NOTICED A SMALL HAIRLINE CRACK. THAT STARTED FROM THE MIDDLE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF OF ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD.
THE ENTIRE "INFOTAINMENT" SYSTEM, CENTRAL DISPLAY CONSOLE, AND CONTROL PANEL DOES NOT WORK. IT WILL NOT TURN ON. THE SCREEN IS BLACK. NOTHING WORKS. THE REAR VIEW CAMERA SAFETY SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK. THE RADIO, BLUETOOTH, AND NAVIGATION SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK. THIS SYMPTOM IS CONSTANT. IT OCCURS WHEN STATIONARY, IN MOTION, IN CITY, HIGHWAY, TURNING - ALWAYS. IN REVERSE THE REARVIEW CAMERA DOES NOT DISPLAY AN IMAGE. THE HANDS FREE CALLING SYSTEM/BLUETOOTH DOES NOT WORK - AGAIN, THIS ISSUE IS CONSTANT REGARDLESS OF CONDITIONS.
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON SOUTH US HWY 231 (LEFT LANE), WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT REAR PASSENGER WINDOW POPPED AND SHATTERED AND THEN BROKEN GLASS FELL INTO BACKSEAT OF CAR. THERE WAS NO CAR IN RIGHT LANE OR IN FRONT OF MY CAR. THERE WERE NO ADVERSE ROAD CONDITIONS. NO OTHER DAMAGE TO CAR.

THE HEAD UNIT WENT BLACK AND THAT MEANS I DO NOT HAVE A BACK UP CAMERA. I LIVE IN A PLACE WHERE BACK UP CAMERA IS A MUST. I PURCHASED THIS UNIT BECAUSE IT HAVE A BIG BACK UP CAMERA AND ALL 2018 MODELS MUST HAVE BACK UP CAMERA. SUBARU FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE SAFETY COMPLIANCE.
ON FEBRUARY 22, 2019, THE PLASTIC COVER ON THE DASH BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE CAME LOOSE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WAS HANGING DOWN ATTACHED BY WIRES AND DANGLED OVER THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS, INTERFERING WITH THEIR SAFE OPERATION. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY ABOUT A MILE FROM MY HOME WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I CAREFULLY DROVE HOME. SUBARU ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE NEXT DAY THAT THE PANEL HAD BEEN PROPERLY REATTACHED.
USING EYE-SIGHT CONTROLS THE AUTOMATIC STOPPING DISTANCE IS SET TOO STOP TOO CLOSE TO THE CAR IN FRONT. VARIES IN STOPPING DISTANCE ,CANNOT DEPEND ON THE SYSTEM THEREFOR CAN NOT USE THE SYSTEM.
SECOND CRACKED WINDSHIELD IN ONE WEEK. FIRST ONE WAS REPLACED 2/8/18. BOTH TIMES TRAVELED AT LOW TO MODERATE SPEED 25-40 MPH ON LOCAL FWY IN LOS ANGELES, CA. SUNNY MILD, DRY CONDITIONS, NO WIND. SMALL PEBBLE HIT WINDSHIELD. COULDN'T SEE HIT, ONLY HEARD A SMALL CRACK SOUND. DAMAGED WINDSHIELD, FIRST TIME SMALL PEBBLE MARK GREW TO LONG CRACK. INITIAL IMPACT SIZE ABOUT 1.5 - 2 MM. ONE WEEK LATER ANOTHER PEBBLE HIT WINDSHIELD IN SLOW TRAFFIC,35 MPH, NO TRUCKS NEAR BY. SAME SIZE OF MARK. SUBARU REQUIRES THEIR WINDSHIELD REPAIR AT CUSTOMER COST OF $930. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER ANY DEBRIS DAMAGE, BUT SMALL PEBBLES SHOULD NOT CAUSE THIS KIND OF DAMAGE AND COSTS. HAD A GRAND CHEROKEE 184K MILES AND NEVER A CRACK OR DING, NEVER ISSUE FOR OUR 2005 SAAB, OR ANY OREVIOUS VEHICLE. SHOULD NOT COST US $1860 MONTH ADDITIONAL TO MAINTAIN CAR, PLUS SAFETY ISSUE. ACCORDING TO SUBARU CORPORATE: DOES NOT RECOMMEND US TO DRIVE IT WITH I-SITE CAMERA WITH A DAMAGED WINDSHIELD. THEY SAY THAT THE GLASS IS THINNER/LIGHTER IN ORDER TO WORK WITH CAMERA AND BE MORE FUEL EFFICIENT/LIGHTER. CARS SHOULD BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND NORMAL DRIVING AND ROAD CONDITIONS.
IN LESS THAN A YEAR ON 2 OCCASIONS A SMALL ROCK CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO BE REPLACED.
EXPLODING SUNROOF. THE SUNROOF SUDDENLY SHATTERED INTO PIECES WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OFFRAMP WITH NO OTHER CARS OR BRIDGES NEARBY. IT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION. THE CAR WASN'T DAMAGED OR SCRATCHED ANYWHERE ELSE, AND THERE WAS NO OBJECT OR DEBRIS.
GAS INDICATOR SAYS I HAVE MORE GAS THEN I DO. WHEN EMPTY IT STILL REGISTERS GAS. THERE IS A RECALL BUT NO FIX IS PRESENT.
I WAS DRIVING AND HIT A POTHOLE WITH THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. I HEARD A LOUD POP OR CRACK AND THOUGHT SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED TO THE TIRE OR WHEEL BECAUSE IT WAS A VERY LOUD. BUT AFTER CONTINUING TO DRIVE SLOWLY FOR ANOTHER BLOCK, IT WAS APPARENT THE TIRE WASN'T DAMAGED NOR DID THE CAR SYSTEMS INDICATE ANY PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH WHEN I HIT THE POTHOLE. I CONTINUED DRIVING AND COMPLETED MY ERRANDS. I DID LOOK AT THE TIRE WHEN I PARKED FOR MY ERRAND BUT DIDN'T SEE ANY VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, WHEEL OR BODY. I THEN DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE CAR IN OUR GARAGE AS USUAL. I DID NOT HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES, PROBLEMS OR HEAR ANY NOISES. THE DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD WAS READILY VISIBLE THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I CAME OUT TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD HAD STARTED UNDER THE SEAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND HAD TRAVELED UP APPROXIMATELY 8-12 INCHES. IT HAS CONTINUED TO GROW AND IS NOW ALMOST BOTTOM TO TOP ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AT THE TIME OUR CAR HAD JUST PASSED THE 12 MONTH WARRANTY PERIOD. HOWEVER, I DISCUSSED THE ISSUE WITH THE DEALER WHERE WE LEASED THE CAR WHEN DOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THIS DISCUSSION TOOK PLACE OVER SEVERAL MONTHS AS I TRIED TO WORK WITH THEM ABOUT THE WINDSHIELD POTENTIALLY BEING DEFECTIVE SINCE IT WAS JUST THE ACTION OF DRIVING THROUGH THE POTHOLE THAT CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. THEY AGREED TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE BUT ULTIMATELY DENIED THE POSSIBILITY OF A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD. THE TIME BETWEEN THE EVENT AND NOW WAS DUE TO ONGOING DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DEALER. THE WINDSHIELD IS STILL NOT FIXED BUT I WAS JUST GETTING READY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AFTER THIS LAST ROUND OF DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DEALER.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM BELOW WHERE THE WIPERS ARE INTO A HUGE CRACK. NO ROCK HIT ME.
BACKUP CAMERA IS BLACK GPS AND RADIO DEAD
SUBARU LANE ASSIST STEERING ISSUE. WHEN YOU HAVE LANE ASSIST ON THE CAR WILL TRY AND STEER FROM ONE LANE TO ANOTHER ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE ON THE FREEWAY AND STARTED AFTER 10,000 MILES WAS ON THE CAR.
RAN OUT OF FUEL EVEN THOUGH THE GAUGE HAD ORIGINALLY SAID 30 MILES TO EMPTY. THEN GAUGE WENT FROM 30 TO ---- AND THEN STALLED ALL WITHIN A FEW MILES WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITH 1/8TH OF A TANK OF GAS REMAINING. GAS LIGHT CAME ON ONLY A FEW MILES PRIOR. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A GAS STATION. CAR STARTED AFTER TURNING OFF AND BACK ON. ONLY TOOK 16.9 GALLONS TO TOP OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE PREVIOUS TIME THE MILES TO EMPTY WAS SHOWING 50 WHEN IT STALLED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE CURRENT RECALL.
I GOT INTO MY CAR, IT PARKED, CLOSED THE DOOR, HEARD SOMETHING FALL AND WHEN I CHECKED TO SEE WHAT THE NOISE WAS MY ENTIRE REAR WINDOW ON THE HATCH WAS SHATTERED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO FIX IT ON MY OWN, THEY ALSO SAID ANY OF THE WARRANTIES I PURCHASED ALSO DONT COVER IT. THEY ALSO MENTIONED THAT 4 PEOPLE ALSO CALLED THIS SAME WEEK WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAD A HATCH BACK CAR FOR 15+ YRS BEFORE PURCHASING THIS SUBARU AND THIS NEVER HAPPENED. JUDY DIDNT SEEM RIGHT.
WINDSHIELD SEVERELY CRACKED,POSSIBLY FROM SMALL PEBBLE AT APPROX 35 MPH APPROACHING FWY ON RAMP. WE WERE INFORMED BY CORPORATE THAT THE WINDSHIELD GLASS IS 'SENSITIVE' DUE TO THE 'EYE SIGHT' FEATURE CALIBRATED WITH THE WINDSHIELD. WINDSHIELD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED - AT OWNERS EXPENSE AT $1100. SIZE OF INITIAL IMPACT DAMAGE MARK ON WINDSHIELD WAS 1/16' OR 1-2MM. NEXT DAY IT SPREAD TO SEVERAL INCHES WHILE CAR WAS PARKED. SMALL PEBBLES OR COMMON ROAD DEBRIS SHOULD NOT CAUSE WINDSHIELD FAILURES ESPECIALLY IN VEHICLES THAT ARE ALL WHEEL DRIVE FOR OFF-ROAD. READ THAT OTHER VEHICLES OF SAME YEAR AND MODEL ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING WINDSHIELD FAILURE.
Battery drains constantly, going to buy my third battery since 2018.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE REVERSING IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE OVERTURNED AND CRASHED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE AGENCY. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK WHILE LEAVING THE CRASH SITE; THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT SALVAGE LOT. THE CONTACT CALLED FLATIRON SUBARU (5995 ARAPAHOE AVE, BOULDER, CO 80303, (877) 464-2714) AND WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-374723133. ADDITIONALLY, AN INVESTIGATION TEAM COLLECTED THE DATA BOX. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE SCREEN HAS GONE BLACK AND SIDE LIGHTS BLINK, UNABLE TO USE ANY ITEM CONTROLLED BY THE SCREEN. APPEARS THE WARNING SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE STOPPING TOO CLOSELY IS NOT WORKING AS WELL.
SUNROOF EXPLODED AND SHATTERED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED
BATTERY FAILING TO START CAR, RECEIVED NEW BATTERY FROM SCHOMP SUBARU SUMMER 2019 AFTER REPEATED JUMP STARTS, TOWED TO DEALERSHIP TWICE, CONTINUING WITH SAME PROBLEM AND TODAY I AM STUCK AT HOME WAITING FOR MY SCHUMACHER PORTABLE CHARGER TO RECHARGE.I AM ARAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL STOP WORKING.I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T DRIVE IT ENOUGH. I LEAVE THE CAR IDLING
A TINY PEBBLE STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD ON THE INTERSTATE, BUT IT SUDDENLY GREW TO A CRACK APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES LONG. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, AND MY CAR IS FAIRLY NEW ON THE ROAD (LESS THAN 8,000 MILES, BOUGHT IN JULY, 2018). DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT SUBARU STILL HAS NOT FIGURED OUT ITS NOTORIOUS WINDSHIELD-RELIABILITY PROBLEM THAT HAS FRUSTRATED SO MANY DRIVERS THROUGHOUT THE PAST 5 YEARS.
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND CRACK SPREAD ACROSS LINE OF SIGHT. MY CAR WAS ONLY TWO MONTHS OLD. I DROVE MY PREVIOUS CAR ON SAME ROUTE FOR 10 YEARS WITHOUT BROKEN WINDSHIELD
AROUND JANUARY THIS YEAR MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED AS SOON AS I GOT OUT FROM THE GARAGE(64 DREGREES) TO THE DRIVEWAY(39 DEGREES). I WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR RUN A BALL AROUND THE GLASS CRACK AND SUDDENLY STOPPED AND FORCEFULLY PUSHED AGAINST THE PEN AGAINST THE GLASS AND SAID THAT WAS AN IMPACT. I LOOKED AT THE AREA OF THE GLASS IMPACT BUT ALL I SAW WAS THE DENT THAT THE PEN LEFT. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE GLASS DUE TO AN IMPACT AND REFERRED TO MY AUTO INSURANCE. I PUT A CLAIM AND PAID MY $500 DEDUCTIBLE TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. IN RETROSPECTIVE I KNEW IT WAS NO IMPACT AND WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY DID NOT HAVE THE INTENTION ON HELPING ME.
WINDSHIELD BROKE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY GOING ROUGHLY 30 MPH. THE CAR WAS PASSING KICKED UP A SMALL ROCK WHICH HIT MY WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE OUTER LAYER OF GLASS TO GET CHIPPED AND CRACK. THE ORIGINAL CRACK WAS 7 INCHES LONG BUT THE AFTERNOON IN THE SUN CAUSED THE CRACK TO PROPAGATED ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD SPANNING 3/4 OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE GLASS ENDED UP COSTING 1200 TO BE REPLACED AND HAVE THE EYESIGHT RE CALIBRATED. THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND HAD LESS THAN 12000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE WINDSHIELD BROKE.
I WENT TO TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND MY BRAKES FAILED. I SWERVED TO MISS THE CAR DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. I HIT 5 OTHER CARS AND THE CAR FLIPPED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO CUT US OUT OF THE CAR.THIS WAS A BUSY STREET.
WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WHILE FUEL RANGE INDICATED ON DASH JUST HIT 30 MILES TO EMPTY AND CAR RAN OUT OF GAS. WAS NEVER INFORMED BY SUBARU OF ANY RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE.
THE WINDSHIELD HAS A CHIP IN IT & I DO NOT REMEMBER GETTING IT BY ANY PEBBLE. SEEMS THE WINDSHIELD MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE.
OUTBACK 2018 WINDSHIELD STARTED SHOWING CRACKS WHILE DRIVING IN HIGHWAY. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 1 HOUR IN HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY SAW THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING . IN 15 MINS, THE CRACK GOT BIGGER AND IT WAS VERY TENSED CONDITION SINCE I HAD MY WIFE , NEW BORN BABY AND OLD PARENTS IN THE CAR. I PARKED THE CAR AND CALLED MY INSURANCE TO CHECK ABOUT THE CONDITION . I HAD SPEND MY NEW YEAR DAY ON HIGHWAY DISCUSSING THE ISSUE. IT WAS A DISTRESSFUL DAY.
IN 2018 A NEW LAW WENT INTO EFFECT REQUIRING ALL NEW CARS CONE WITH REAR BACKUP CAMERAS. THE SUBARU STARLINK INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM THAT IS ON ALL NEW SUBARUS ARE DEFECTIVE, BUGGY, AND SUBARU HAS NO PERMANENT FIX. IT RENDERS THE REAR CAMERA UNOPERABLE, REPLACEMENTS ARE ON BACKORDER AND SUBARU MAKES OWNERS CONTINUE TO DRIVE THEIR CARD WHEN IT IS UNSAFE AND NOT FOLLOWING THE NEW LAW FOR 2018 CARS. I WANT SUBARU TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND PROVIDE AFFECTED OWNERS WITH LOANER CARS WHILE WAITING FOR A FIX/REPLACEMENT.
I HAVE OWNED TWO OUTBACKS A 2016 AND 2018 AND BOTH HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM OF FRONT WINDOWS WILL WORK AND THEN FOR WHAT EVER REASON I WILL ROLL WINDOW UP WITH POWER SWITCH AND WIND WILL AUTOMATICALLY ROLL HALF WAY DOWN AND STAY THERE IF I TRY TO ROLL IT UP AGAIN IT DOES THE SAME THING .UNTIL I PULL OVER STOP CAR AND RESET THE SWITCH THE WAY THE DEALERSHIP SHOWED ME TO DO ,THIS ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES SO I AM LEFT WITH MY WINDOW HALF WAY DOWN.THIS IS UNSAFE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS RAINING AND MY WIFE IS TRYING TO PAY ATTENTION TO DRIVING WITH KIDS IN THE CAR .NOT TO MENTION LEAVING HER CAR WITH THE WINDOW DOWN UNSECECURED FOR SOMEONE TO GET IN HER CAR AND HIDE TO HARM HER ,MOST OF THE TIMES SHE CANNOT GET WINDOW TO RESET. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP WITH THIS ISSUE,ONE DEALERSHIP HAS CLAIMED THAT IT IS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND THEY KNOW HOW TO FIX BUT THEY ARE UP NORTH I AM FAR SOUTH.
DISPLAY PANEL SHUT DOWN, COMPLETELY DARK, DISABLED ARE RADIO, GPS, NAVIGATION AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE BACK UP CAMERA. THE DEALERSHIP ADMITS THEY ARE SEEING QUITE A FEW OF THESE AND A NEW RADIO TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WILL TAKE 3 MONTHS TO ARRIVE, NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. SO I WILL BE WITHOUT A BACKUP CAMERA, DEEMED CRITICAL ENOUGH THAT IT IS MANDATED ON ALL NEW CARS FOR ONE QUARTER OF THE YEAR. I ALSO ASSUME IF NOT FIXED BY MY NEXT STATE SAFETY INSPECTION I WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE THE CAR. SO FAR I HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING FROM SUBARU.THIS LOOKS A PRETTY BIG SAFETY ISSUE BEING SWEPT UNDER THE RUG.

(SUBARU) IS RECALLING 2018 MODEL YEAR LEGACY, OUTBACK, AND BRZ VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A CERTAIN COMBINATION OF HEAD UNIT HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD TYPE: RECALL | SERVICE CAMPAIGN: WTZ85 | NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 18V-000000 OPEN RECALL DATE: JANUARY 02, 2019 DESCRIPTION 18 LEG/OUT/BRZ V3 HEAD UNIT REPROGRAM SAFETY RISK DUE TO A SOFTWARE ISSUE, THE HEAD UNIT MEMORY RETRIEVAL AND ASSEMBLY TIME MAY EXCEED THE DESIGNED TIME TO BEGIN THE BOOT-UP CYCLE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE HEAD UNIT DISPLAY WILL NOT BOOT, CAUSING THE SCREEN TO REMAIN BLANK. IN THIS CONDITION, WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE, THE REARVIEW IMAGE MAY NOT BE DISPLAYED. THE FAILURE TO DISPLAY THE REARVIEW IMAGE CREATES A NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 111 ' 'REAR VISIBILITY,' INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. THERE ARE 1000'S OF THESE ON BACKORDER CAUSING US TO DRIVE AROUND IN UNSAFE VEHICLES BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN REPLACMENT UNITS WILL BE AVAILABLE AND THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING A LOANER CAR IN THE MEANTIME. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A COMPANY THAT PRIDES THEMSELVES ON THEIR SAFETY!!!!!
I FOUND A CRACK IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF MY WINDSHIELD (SUBARU OUTBACK 2018). THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME. THERE WAS NO CAUSE FOR THE CRACK (HAIL STORM, ROCK/GRAVEL HITTING CAR). AT THIS TIME, THE CRACK HAS SPREAD AND THE SUBARU EYESIGHT PROGRAM (SENSOR PROGRAM) DOES NOT WORK.
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM A TINY CHIP THAT SPREAD RAPIDLY TO ABOUT 2FEET IN LENGTH OVER 4 DAYS. THIS IS MY SECOND WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS. THE OUTBACK WINDSHIELD DESIGN IS WEAK, AND IN MY OPINION DANGEROUS. OTHER OUTBACK OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE
2 WINDSHIELD CRACKS IN LOWER PORTION OF WINDSHIELD DURING 1ST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. BOTH CRACKS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN ~35 MPH, ONCE DURING A 100 DEGF SUMMER DAY, AND THE OTHER DURING A 40 DEGF RAINY WINTER MORNING. INSPECTION OF CRACK AFTER STOPPING SHOWED POSSIBLE ORIGINATION FROM ~1MM CHIPS. DURING THE SUMMER, THE FIRST CHIP, LOCATED IN THE DE-ICER AREA, GREW RAPIDLY TO A CRACK ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD WITH A LOUD 'POP' SOUND AFTER THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS TURNED ON HIGH USING DEFROSTER AIR MODE. SUBARU OF AMERICA (NOT THE DEALER) REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD AND RECALIBRATED THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM AS A 'GOODWILL' REPAIR. DURING THE WINTER, ANOTHER CHIP BETWEEN THE VIN# DISPLAY WINDOW AND THE PERIMETER OF THE LOWER WINDSHIELD EXPLOSIVELY GREW TO A CRACK WHEN HEATED DEFROSTER AIR WAS ACTIVATED. REPAIR PENDING. MAIN CONCERN IS THE FRAGILE NATURE AND TEMPERATURE DEPENDANCE OF THIS GLASS TEMPER, ESPECIALLY NEAR WINDOW BOUNDARY CONDITIONS AND WHERE DEFROSTER AIR IS THE STRONGEST. OVER 20 YEARS OF DRIVING OTHER VEHICLES ON THE SAME ROUTE HAVE CAUSED LITTLE CHIPS ON OTHER WINDSHIELDS, BUT NEVER HAS A CHIP GROWN INTO A CRACK, WITH OR WITHOUT HOT OR COLD DEFROSTER AIR HITTING IT. I SUSPECT THAT THE THICKNESS AND TEMPER OF THE LATEST GENERATION OF OUTBACK CARLEX WINDSHIELDS WILL CONTINUE TO CAUSE ISSUES SIMILAR TO TSB# 12-192-15R.
ENTIRE CENTER RADIO CLUSTER HAS FAILED. CAR WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE AND GOT INTO THE CAR AND STARTED CAR AND ENTIRE UNIT WAS BLACK. THIS IMPACTS RADIO, HANDS FREE CELLULAR PHONE USE, NAVIGATION, BACK UP CAMERA AND WARNING SYSTEM, VEHICLE NOTIFICATIONS, STAR LINK PROGRAM. THIS MAY SOUND JUST LIKE A MINOR THING BUT THIS HAS SIGNIFICANT SAFE OPERATION IMPACTS IN REGARDS TO TRAFFIC AND DRIVING, CELL PHONE USE AND NAVIGATION OF THE VEHICLE.
