CAR STALLED AND RAN OUT OF GAS WHEN THE SYSTEM SAID I HAD 20 MILES LEFT. I WAS 2 MILES FROM HOME/GAS STATION. THIS HAPPENED AT A STREET LIGHT ON A BUSY STREET. I HAD TO GET OUT AND PUSH THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY IN 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. EACH TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,400.
INFOTAINMENT SCREEN WENT BLACK ON DECEMBER 17, 2018. RADIO, NAVIGATION SYSTEM, BLUETOOTH AND REAR CAMERA ARE ALL INOPERABLE.
MY WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED FOR THE 2ND TIME NOW IN ITS FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. THE FIRST TIME IT CRACKED IT WAS BECAUSE OF A PEBBLE STRIKE FROM THE ROAD. EXTREMELY SMALL FRAGMENT STRUCK THE GLASS, MADE A POCK MARK, AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. TODAY, LESS THAN A MONTH LATER A NEW CRACK APPEARED WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY STRIKE FROM AN OBJECT. SUBARU DEALER CLAIMS IT WAS STRUCK BUT FIND A CRACK ONLY WITHOUT ANY POINT ALONG IT OF AN IMPACT MAKES ME VERY VERY SUSPICIOUS. NOW I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO SETTLE ON CHARGES AND SEND A CHECK BEFORE THE NEXT WINDSHIELD CAN BE APPLIED. MY WIFE AND I WERE CALMLY DRIVING ON COMPLETELY PAVED ROADS WHEN WE BOTH WATCHED THE CRACK APPEAR AND GROW DURING OUR DRIVE. :-( I HAVE DRIVEN FOR 50+ YEARS, AND OWNED 20+ CARS. I'VE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN.
INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM IS FAULTY. I HAVE NO BACK UP CAMERA, BLUETOOTH, RADIO, CAN NOT PROGRAM CLOCK. SUBARU DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO FIX OTHER THAN TO REPLACE HEAD UNIT. I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE DEC 14TH FOR THIS REPLACEMENT UNIT. WHILE AT DEALER I ASKED FOR A LOANER AND WAS DENIED. SUBARU SAID THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WHICH IS NOT TRUE SINCE THEIR BIGGEST SAFETY FEATURE ISNT ACCESSIBLE
I DROVE TO A NEARBY TOWN, INDICATOR SAID 40 MILES TO GO BEFORE EMPTY. PARKED. RESTARTED THE CAR AFTER HALF AN HOUR. MOST OF CENTER DISPLAY FUNCTIONS WERE DEAD. IT DID SHOW BACK-UP VIEW, BUT NO RADIO, NO MAP. DROVE TOWARD HOME AND GAS STATION. AFTER TWENTY MILES, ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 70MPH ON HIGHWAY, ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED RACING AS THOUGH IT HAD DOWN SHIFTED, I BRAKED AND HEADED FOR THE SHOULDER. NO TURN SIGNALS, NO INDICATORS, NO EMERGENCY FLASHERS - IT SEEMED THAT THE COMPUTER CRASHED WHEN I RAN OUT OF GAS. AFTER ADDING GAS AND RESTARTING, ALL WAS NORMAL EXCEPT THE THE RADIO MEMORY HAD BEEN WIPED.
TTHE BATTERY HAS GONE DEAD SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY ONE TIME UNDER WARRANTY. IT NOW INDICATES A WEAKNESS IN CRANKING POWER AFTER THE CAR SITS WITHOUT DRIVING FOR A FEW DAYS. IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW AND MORE POWERFUL BATTERY.
WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN WE HEARD A CRACK AND THE CRACK APPEARED ON THE WINDSHIELD IN A T FORMATION. THIS HAPPENED 12/2018. THE CRACK AT THIS TIME COVERS THE MAJORITY OF THE WINDSHIELD IN A T FORMATION.
1) Battery drain issue when liftgate spuriously opens and completely drains battery resulting in an inoperable car. 2) This issue above and perhaps other unknown electrical issue(s) has resulted in a bad battery after only 3yrs (30K miles).
VEHICLES WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED WHILE STATIONARY. DURING A ROAD TRIP WITH SEVERAL PASSENGERS, WE MADE A PIT STOP AND WHEN WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR A PASSENGER NOTED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED WHEN IT HAD NOT BEEN PRIOR TO THE STOP.
WE'RE ON OUR 3RD WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELDS CRACKED FOR NO REASON. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED 40 MILES REMAINING, BUT THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000.
30 MILES LEFT AS INDICATED ON FUEL TANK, CAR ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON ROAD AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN LEFT SIDE OF HIGHWAY, MY FAMILY WERE PASSENGERS IN MY CAR AND THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL SITUATION. A GOOD SAMARITAN HELPED US MOVE OUR CAR OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD OUT OF HARMS WAY. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SUBARU AND DO NOT TRUST THAT IT HAS THE BEST 'SAFETY' FEATURES IF IT IS THIS INACCURATE IN INFORMING ME OF MILEAGE! I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK WHAT WORSE OUTCOME COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY FAMILY. THANK GOD WE ARE ALL OK. DO BETTER SUBARU, FOR THE LIVES OF YOUR CUSTOMERS DRIVING YOUR VEHICLES AND THE SAFETY OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
HARMAN-KARDON AUDIO UNIT FAILURE AT 8,000 MILES. RESULTS IN LOSS A BASIC BACK UP CAMERA FUNCTION. EXTENSIVE SAFETY FEATURES ON THIS VEHICLE-BASIC BACK UP CAMERA NOT WORKING.
DASHBOARD TOLD ME I HAD 20 MILES WORTH OF FUEL LEFT WHEN SUDDENLY THE INDICATOR CHANGED TO A DASH AND THE CAR RAN OUT OF GAS. OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH ON A BUSY EXPRESSWAY, THANKFULLY IN THE SLOW LANE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V773000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE DEALER (SUBARU OF SANTA CRUZ, 4100 AUTO PLAZA DRIVE, CAPITOLA, CA 95010) CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I WAS DRIVING AND THE ENTIRE DISPLAY WENT BLANK! THIS RENDERS ALL ELECTRONIC FEATURES CONTROLLED BY THE SCREEN INOPERABLE AND ALSO VIOLATES FEDERAL LAW MANDATING BACKUP CAMERAS ON 2018 OR NEWER CARS. THOUGH TECHNICALLY MY VEHICLE IS STILL EQUIPPED WITH IT, IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THE DISPLAY IS COMPLETELY DEAD. THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM THE PART IS BACKORDERED FOR AT LEAST A MONTH, IN THE MEANTIME I WILL DRIVING A CAR WITHOUT AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE.
8- INCH TOUCH SCREEN SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BLANK. AS A RESULT, THE BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT FUNCTION. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME, THE UNIT WAS REPLACED AFTER A ONE WEEK WAIT FOR THE PART TO BE DELIVERED. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS,THIS UNIT WENT OUT. SUBARU 'A MONTH WAIT FOR NEW UNIT DUE TO REPAIR DEMANDS.'
2018 SUBARU OUTBACK: PER DEALER: ORIGINAL BATTERY "BAD" & REPLACED BY DEALER AFTER IT FAILED (UNABLE TO START & WON'T HOLD CHARGE) AFTER 10,500 MILES AT 9 MO. BATTERY ALSO FAILED IN OUR PREVIOUSLY OWNED 2015 OUTBACK AFTER ONLY 3 WEEKS, & IN A 2015 SUBARU LEGACY AFTER 35 MONTHS. THE 2018 OUTBACK'S TOUCH SCREEN (& BACK-UP CAMERA SCREEN, ETC) HAS ALSO STOPPED WORKING TWICE, AT ABOUT 2 MONTHS (WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY) & AGAIN AT 3 MONTHS, BOTH TIMES SUDDENLY, THE SCREEN GOING BLACK FOR A MINUTE OR LONGER, & THEN TURNING WHITE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE RESUMING THE NORMAL SCREEN CONFIGURATION & APPEARANCE.
THE RADIO MALFUNCTIONS, IT CRACKLES, STATIC INTERFERENCE, OTHER STATIONS INTERFERE WITH CURRENT STATION. THIS OCCURS DURING ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS AND ALL DIFFERENT ROADS AND WHETHER CAR IS MOVING OR STATIONARY HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AT NIGHT, THE FUEL RANGE DROPPED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE MANUFACTURER'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED, BUT NO ONE ANSWERED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE POLICE FOR ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE DARKNESS. THE CONTACT CALLED TRIPLE A AND WAS PROVIDED SOME FUEL TO DRIVE HOME. TWO DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V773000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GROOVE SUBARU (720-279-9409, LOCATED AT 5300 S BROADWAY, ENGLEWOOD, CO 80113) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED, BUT NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,500. ..*BF*JB *DT
AT LEAST 10 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK WE HAVE ALMOST CRASHED DUE TO THE STEERING. WE WENT OFF THE ROAD TWICE. THE CAR IS SERIOUSLY VEERING OFF TO THE RIGHT, ALMOST LIKE YOU ARE HYDROPLANING ON DRY LAND. YOU CAN'T EVEN STEER THE CAR BACK INTO THE LANE. IT JUST GOES BY ITSELF. I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TODAY. THEY ARE SAYING THAT IT IS THE LANE ASSIST BEING ON AND TO TURN IT OFF. WE'VE HAD THE CAR FOR 5 MONTHS AND NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS IS HAPPENING. IT IS NOT RIGHT AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THESE COMPLAINTS AND PLEASE DO A RECALL BEFORE INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE KILLED. THIS IS HAPPENING ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL AS SMALLER STREETS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MCGOVERN SUBARU (203 LAFAYETTE RD, NORTH HAMPTON, NH 03862, (603) 964-9303) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500.
WINDSHIELD ON MY 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK CRACKED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT IN MY GARAGE.
THE RADIO DISPLAY HEAD UNIT FAILED. THE REAR BACK-UP CAMERA AND AND WARNING SIGNALS ARE INOPERABLE. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THE SYSTEMS FOR THREE WEEKS AND SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN NOT PROVIDE A DATE WHEN THIS REPAIR CAN BE MADE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS THEY AID IN BACKING UP THE VEHICLE IN PARKING LOTS AT NIGHT WHEN VISIBILITY IS POOR.
OUR SYSTEM SHOWED 40 MILES TO EMPTY. LUCKILY WE WERE IN A TURN LANE COMING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE CAR SHUT OFF/STOPPED RUNNING. TRAFFIC HAD TO GO AROUND US TO TURN AT THE LIGHT. SOMEONE STOPPED AND GAVE US 5 GALLONS OF GAS. WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND GO TO A SERVICE STATION AND FILL UP.
BLUETOOTH WILL RANDOMLY DISCONNECT. SOMETIMES IT LASTS A FEW MINUTES, SOMETIMES A COUPLE HOURS. UNABLE TO RE-CONNECT ONCE IT DOES, SO WE HAVE TO MESS WITH SETTINGS WHILE DRIVING TO SWITCH TO AUX CABLE, RADIO, ETC OR PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR COMPLETELY. WE HAVE VERIFIED THE ISSUE WITH 6 DIFFERENT DEVICES. NONE OF THE DEVICES DEMONSTRATE THE SAME ISSUE WITH ANY OTHER BLUETOOTH DEVICES (WE USE A SPEAKER FOR HOURS ON END IN THE HOUSE WITH NO ISSUES). COMBINE THAT WITH THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN BEING INCREDIBLY SLOW, THIS IS A FRUSTRATING ISSUE.
** 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK ** THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES** DRIVING CAR WHEN CAR SHUTS OFF COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ENGINE TURNS OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS - SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN THE LOW FUEL WARNING SYSTEM TURNS ON AT 1/4 TANK OF GAS. THIS 3RD TIME ALMOST GOT ME KILLED TRAVELING AT 45MPG WHEN IT HAPPENED TODAY INSIDE A MAJOR INTERSECTION. SOFTWARE / SENSOR FOR THE LOW FUEL SYSTEM? SOMETHING IS VERY SERIOUSLY WRONG. 1. IS THIS CAR SAFE TO DRIVE WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS? 2. HAS THERE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM? 3. IS THERE A RECALL OR FIX ?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING, THE AUTOMATED DRIVING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING AND THE BACK-UP CAMERA DID NOT FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (STEVE MOYER SUBARU, 201 S CENTRE AVE, LEESPORT, PA 19533, (888) 696-0345) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER THAT CONTROLLED THE ELECTRONIC AND SAFETY SYSTEMS MALFUNCTIONED. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS OCCURRING WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLES AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE COMPONENT UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED AND THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES WERE REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,285. *TT *TR*JB
NUMBER OF MILES SHOWED 40 UNTIL GAS WAS NEEDED- 8 MILES LATER WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF GAS ON MAJOR HIGHWAY- CONTACTED SUBARU SERVICE WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES WITH THIS, HE SAID YES-- HE ACTUALLY SAID THE SAME EXACT SCENARIO-- WHERE SAID 40, AND APPROX. 8 MILES LATER COMPLETELY OUT OF GAS- HE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD FUEL ENGINEERS LOOK AT THE CAR THAT WAS BROUGHT IN AND SAID THE ONLY WAY TO GET GOOD INFORMATION IS TO RE-SET TRIP A AND RE-SET TRIP B AFTER YOU FILL YOUR TANK-- SO IT CAN CALIBRATE. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE- THEY SHOULD COMMUNICATE THIS TO THEIR CUSTOMERS TO AVOID THIS HUGE SAFETY RISK. POLICE WERE CALLED TO US BROKEN DOWN ON FREEWAY TO ALERT TRAFFIC WE WERE SITTING ON SHOULDER- VERY UNSAFE AREA TO "RUN OUT OF GAS"- SUBARU SHOULD GET THIS GLITCH FIXED-- AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, COMMUNICATE TO PEOPLE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED SUBARU AMERICA TO LET THEM KNOW AND I HAVE OPENED A CASE. THEY WILL CALL ME BACK NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, OCT 10TH, 2018 WITH AN UPDATE. I ALSO WANTED THIS TO BE BROUGHT TO NTSB ATTENTION SINCE SUBARU SOUNDED LIKE THEY KNEW ABOUT IT, BUT DIDN'T EVEN TELL US WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR. CAR HAS ROUGHLY 4K MILES ON IT.
FUEL SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING DEFECT - FUEL WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE NOR READ PROPERLY BELOW 50 MILES. I HAD 30 MILES LEFT IN THE TANK, PARKED THE CAR AND AFTER WORK (APPROX. 8 HOURS) I WENT TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. HAD TO UTILIZE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE - THANK GOODNESS THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION OR ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. BRAND NEW CAR RUNS WORSE THAN MY 1988 HONDA CRX.
WE OWN 2 2018 SUBARU OUTBACKS. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD IN EACH ONE TWICE (A PIECE) AND ONE OF THEM HAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD AGAIN. AFTER LOOKING ON LINE I FIND THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELDS MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALERSHIPS CONTINUE TO SAY THE WINDSHIELDS ARE CRACKING BECAUSE OF ROCK CHIPS. NONE OF OUR OTHER CARS' WINDSHIELDS ARE CRACKING. THE LAST ONE CRACKED WHEN THE CAR WAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN. SINCE THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES WITH 2 VEHICLES SOME OF THE QUESTIONS YOUR FORM ASKED DID NOT APPLY. SUCH AS HOW FAST WERE WE GOING (SOMETIMES 55,65 OR 0) WHAT DATE DID THIS OCCUR (5 DIFFERENT DATES) AT WHAT MILEAGE 5 DIFFERENT ONES BUT THEY ARE ON THE 4 INSURANCE CLAIMS I ATTACHED. THE 5TH ONE WE HAVE NOT FIXED YET. WHY? IT'S JUST GOING TO BREAK AGAIN. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REPORT IT TO OUR INSURANCE COMPANY, OUR RATES ARE GOING THROUGH THE ROOF NOW BECAUSE OF ALL THESES CLAIMS AND THEN THERE IS HASSLE TO GET IT FIXED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED 20 MILES TO EMPTY, THE FUEL TANK WAS ACTUALLY EMPTY. I JUST DRIVEN HOME FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY FOR 20 MINUTES. GOT HOME AND PARKED MY CAR ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY HOME. I WENT INTO MY HOME AND CAME OUT ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER TO DO SOME YARD WORK. A CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD CAUGHT MY EYE. I LOOKED AT IT AND IT WENT FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER IT WAS NOT THERE WHEN I PARKED MY CAR 30 MINUTES EARLIER AND NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD ON THE FREEWAY. THIS HAPPENED 9 MOS AFTER I BOUGHT MY CAR. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY MADE ME PAY $1118.33 OUT OF MY POCKET AND THEN TOLD ME TO GET REIMBURSED BY MY INSURANCE.

BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS AND LESS THAN 10K MILES ON 2018 VEHICLE PURCHASED NEW (THROUGH DEALER-- UNDER WARRANTY) . STEERING WAS GREAT UNTIL 6000 MILES. THE CAR NOW HAS A DEFINITE PROBLEM WITH EITHER THE FRONT END OR STEERING. THE STEERING IS IRREGULAR AND FEELS AS THOUGH YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. WHILE TURNING THE STEERING FEELS STUCK AND THERE IS NOT ROAD DEFECT TO BE STUCK IN. WHILE DRIVING FORWARD THE CAR WILL JERK THE FRONT END AND IT FEELS LIKE YOU WILL LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.

AFTER USING 'X-MODE' THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ENGAGING THE GAS PEDAL. IT CONTINUED EVEN AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT. I THEN PULLED OVER AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL, AND IT AGAIN ACCELERATED FROM 0-40 MPH BEFORE IT STARTED TO DECELERATE ON ITS OWN.
ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2018 I WAS DRIVING MY SUBARU OUTBACK THROUGH BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK. I WAS LEAVING THE CHISOS MOUNTAINS BASIN WITHIN THE PARK WHEN IT BEGAN LIGHTLY RAINING. I PRESSED THE X-MODE BUTTON HOPING IT WOULD INCREASE MY TRACTION ON THE WINDING ROADS. AS THE CAR WAS COMING DOWN FAIRLY STEEP DECLINE, I NOTICED THAT I WAS GAINING SPEED AND X-MODE HAD TURNED ITSELF OFF. I CAME AROUND A CURVE A LITTLE FAST AND FELT THAT IT TOOK MORE EFFORT THAN I'D EXPECTED TO SLOW THE CAR. AT THAT POINT, THE ROAD LEVELED OUT AND THE RAIN HAD STOPPED, BUT MY SPEED WAS STILL ACCELERATING. I HAD TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED. I DECIDED TO PULL OVER, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION IN HOPES THAT WOULD RESET THE ENGINE. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO, I STARTED UP THE CAR AGAIN, PUT IT INTO DRIVE, AND WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. AFTER IT REACHED APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH (WHICH WAS THE SPEED LIMIT) ON ITS OWN I PULLED OVER AGAIN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. MY FIANCE SUGGESTED PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THINKING THAT COULD RESET WHATEVER MALFUNCTION THERE WAS IN DRIVE. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND AGAIN, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. IT WENT FROM 0 MPH TO 40 MPH IN NEUTRAL. IT GAINED SPEED IN A STEADY AND CONSISTENT PACE, ABOUT 1 MPH EVERY 1.5 SECONDS. MY FIANCE CALLED SUBARU OF AMERICA, HOPING THEY COULD TELL US ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY RECOMMENDED WE GET IT CHECKED OUT AT A DEALERSHIP AND THAT THE CLOSEST SUBARU DEALERSHIP WAS MORE THAN 200 MILES AWAY. WHILE HE WAS ON THE PHONE, THE CAR BEGAN DECELERATING WITHOUT HAVING TOUCHED THE GAS OR BRAKE PEDALS. AFTER THAT, IT BEGAN DRIVING NORMALLY AND I DIDN'T EXPERIENCE ANY FURTHER ISSUES UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME AND BRING THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION.
I HAD OWNED MY 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY WHEN MY WINDSHIELD WAS HIT WITH A SMALL ROCK. IT CAUSED A SMALL CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. I USUALLY CAN GET TO TOWN AND HAVE THESE FILLED WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED IN MY OTHER VEHICLE. BY THE TIME I DROVE THE 20 MILES TO TOWN TO GET IT FILLED IT HAD RAN AND CRACKED THE WHOLE MIDDLE SECTION OF MY WINDSHIELD. I WAS SHOCKED THAT IT HAD COMPLETELY RUINED THE WINDSHIELD. I CALLED MY DEALER WHO INFORMED ME IT WOULD COST ABOUT $600 TO $700 TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. AND ABOUT 500 TO CALIBRATE THE EYESIGHT ON THE CAR. AGAIN I WAS SHOCKED. HE THEN REFERRED ME TO A WINDSHIELD COMPANY IN MY AREA TO REPLACE IT AT A $350 COST TO ME. I DID NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES AS I DID NOT REALIZE THIS WAS GOING TO BE A THING WITH THE VEHICLE. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD OVER 8 CHIPS FIXED IN THE WINDSHIELD. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME I TRAVEL IT GETS HIT. WHICH IS STRANGE BECAUSE MY OTHER VEHICLE VERY SELDOM GETS HIT. I TRY NOT TO DRIVE BEHIND VEHICLES AS IT SEEMS MY WINDSHIELD IS IN AN ANGLE THAT IS HIT IF ANYTHING COMES UP OFF THE ROAD. THIS IS FRUSTRATING AND EXPENSIVE AND MESSES WITH MY EYESIGHT ON THE CAR.
NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. THE DRIVERS SIDE MIRROR WILL NOT ADJUST FAR ENOUGH OUT TO COMPLY WITH THE CURRENT RECOMMENDATION FOR SIDE/REAR VISION LEAVING A BLIND SPOT. THE SUBARU OUTBACK TOURING HAS ELECTRONIC WARNING THAT MAY INTERFERE WITH THE MECHANICAL CAPACITY OF THE MIRROR. SAFETY ISSUE. NOT AN EVENT.
The battery in my 2018 Subaru Outback has been replaced three times since I purchased it. I am the sole owner. The original battery was replaced within seven months of purchase due to continual battery drainage. The dealership replaced it with the same type of battery and I was not charged. When I went into the dealership expressing concern with the second battery also having to be jump started frequently when the battery was barely two years old, I was told that is the typical life of a battery for the newer electronic vehicles and because the area I live in has excessive heat, that also lowers the battery life. I have had to jump start my vehicle so many times, I stopped taking my vehicle on long trips for fear of being stuck somewhere. In August of 2021, during a cross- states road trip, the battery died mid-trip. I jumped it and had it replaced at my own cost, but not at a dealership. They gave me a 5-year warrenty on the battery. When I took the car into the dealership and had them run diagnostics, they told me that, "Yes, there was some kind of power draw, but then it couldn't be duplicated, so we don't know what the problem is. That will be $117.00." I think Subaru makes great products and my dealership has wonderful employees, but there is currently a Class Action Suit going on, and I wanted to support those who are filing. Subaru needs to acknowledge and fix the issue. And reimburse me the $117.00 plus the $169.56 for my third battery.
A SMALL CRACK APPEARED ON THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING AND RAPIDLY EVOLVED INTO A VERY LARGE CRACK THAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED.
THE HEAD UNIT IN THE SOUND SYSTEM/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BROKE RESULTING IN NO BACKUP CAMERA/ MUSIC/ APPLE CAR PLAY/ ETC. FOR OVER 2 MONTHS. THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD AND THE UNIT WAS BACKORDERED AT THE TIME RESULTING NO USE OF THE HEAD UNIT FOR 2 MONTHS.
WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY CRACKED WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED
TENSION AND CONTROL DISAPPEARS IN THE STEERING, SO LOOSE IT FEELS LIKE YOU COULD SPIN THE WHEEL LIKE A TOP. LASTS A SECOND OR SO THEN CONTROL RETURNS. HAPPENS IN MULTIPLE DRIVING CONDITIONS. NOTICED IT FIRST DAY WE HAD THE CAR, DEALER SAID HE NOTICED IT TOO, AND WE JUST NEEDED TO BREAK THE CAR IN. WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN HIGH WINDS, CAR FEELS OUT OF CONTROL, LIKE DRIVING ON SLICK ICE. NEVER HAD TO GET OFF A HIGHWAY BEFORE OUT OF FEAR AND I'VE BEEN DRIVING 40 YEARS. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE, TOLD ME TO CALL SUBARU CORPORATE, WHO SENT ME BACK TO DEALER. CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP. I AM SO AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR IT ONLY HAS 2700 MILES ON IT AFTER 18 MONTHS.
