LEFT SIDEVIEW MIRROR DOES NOT ROTATE FAR ENOUGH TO LEFT: A PERSON OR VEHICLE WITHIN 3 FEET OR GREATER DISTANCE OF LEFT SIDE AND ADJACENT WITH AFT OF LEFT REAR DOOR (IE, PARALLEL TO THE BREAK LINE OF THE DOOR WHERE IT CLOSES) CANNOT BE SEEN IN SIDE VIEW MIRROR. A REPLACEMENT MIRROR WAS INSTALLED BY DEALER, BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS. CHECKING OUT ANOTHER NEW 2018 OUTBACK RESULTED IN SAME PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE WILL RESULT IN MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS WITH DRIVER-SIDE IMPACTS OR OTHER, BOTH WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE RIGHT SIDE MIRROR WORKS WELL WITH COMPLETE VIEW ANGLE OF ADJACENT LANE OR FURTHER IF REQUIRED.
I WAS DRIVING MY CHILD TO SCHOOL ON A RAINY MORNING IN TRAFFIC,20-30MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. THE CAR STALLED AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. (I AM LUCKY I DID NOT GET REAR ENDED; OTHERWISE I WOULD BE IN THE HOSPITAL GETTING MY CHILD CHECKED OUT.) ROLLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; AS CLOSE AS I COULD GET.. SHIFTED INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR. STARTED RIGHT UP. I HAD A QUARTER TANK OF GAS AND DROVE THREE MILES AFTER THAT AND STILL HAVE ENOUGH TO GET TO A GAS STATION; SO IT IS NOT A FUEL SUPPLY ISSUE. THIS IS NOT SAFE!!! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!! THIS IS A NEW CAR PURCHASED THREE MONTHS AGO!!! CALLED THE DEALER'S SERVICE REP AND ASKED IF THIS COULD BE PART OF THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH FUEL ECONOMY. I AM AVERAGING 16.1 MPG. MY 2007 MERCURY MILLAN PREMIER AWD AVERAGED AROUND 22.8MPG: 10 YEARS OLDER AND LARGER ENGINE (3.0 VS 2.5). I ALSO LET HIM KNOW THAT AT LOW SPEEDS THE CAR IS FIGHTING AS IF IN THE WRONG GEAR AND LOW TORQUE. ALSO THERE IS NOT A SMOOTH COAST, IT IS ALMOST AS IF THE CAR IS BRAKING BY BEING IN THE WRONG GEAR. I HAVE HAD A TOYOTA, DODGE, FORD, MERCURY, HONDA, AND HYUNDAI IN THE FAMILY AND NEVER HAD PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THIS IS NOT SAFE!!! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!! THIS IS A NEW CAR PURCHASED THREE MONTHS AGO!!! I ALSO ASKED HIM IF THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE HEAD UNIT WHICH IS RIDDLED WITH PROBLEMS. HOW DID SUBARU LET A CAR LIKE THIS OFF THE LINE? I NOW FEAR USING THIS CAR. I DO NOT WANT TO BE IN A FATAL ACCIDENT AND I DO NOT WANT TO INTRODUCE FATAL RISKS TO MY FAMILY. I AM TOLD THAT IF THE PROBLEM CAN NOT BE REPRODUCED AT THE DEALER, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. TRANSLATION: CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM, CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, I AM STUCK WITH A DEATH TRAP.
MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ON A COOL (45 DEGREES) DAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH, THE ONLY VEHICLE IN THE VICINITY. THERE WAS A SUDDDEN UNEXPLAINED NOISE OVERHEAD, THEN A LOUD EXPLOSION LIKE NOISE AND THEN A LOUD RUSH OF WIND AND THE SOUND OF SOMETHING BREAKING AND FLAPPING AND SOMETHING BLOWING AND HITTING THE ROOF OF THE CAR. I SLID OPEN THE SUNSHADE A VERY SMALL DISTANCE AND DISCOVERED MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED FOR NO APPARENT REASON OR CAUSE.THIS WAS ON A 7 MONTH OLD 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH FACTORY INSTALLED SUNROOF AND 17,000 MIKES ON IT. THE SUNROOF WAS COMPLETELY CLOSED AT THE TIME AND FORTUNATELY SO WAS THE INTERIOR SUNSHADE.
SUBARU IS SELLING NEW VEHICLES WITH INADEQUATE AMOUNTS OF COOLANT IN THE ENGINES COOLING SYSTEM. THIS HAS CAUSED AN IMMEDIATE NEED FOR COOLANT BEING ADDED AS RESIDUAL AIR IN THE SYSTEM IN EXPELLED TO THE RESERVOIR. IF A CUSTOMER FOLLOWS SUBARUS GUIDANCE FOR TIME/MILEAGE TO FIRST INSPECTION THEY RISK HAVING THE CAR OVERHEAT/STALL WHILE DRIVING POTENTIALLY CAUSE BODILY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. I BROUGHT THIS ISSUE UP WITH MULTIPLE DEALERS WITH NO RESOLUTION.
ENGINE CUTS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I'M ABLE TO RESTART AFTER PULLING OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FEBRUARY 22 AND MARCH 24, 2018 WERE THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE ISSUE HAPPENED. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID SUBARU WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP MY GAS ABOVE HALF A TANK. THE ISSUE HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE I STARTED KEEPING MY GAS HALF FULL. THE 'MILES TO EMPTY' GAGE IS VERY INACCURATE. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE IT SPONTANEOUSLY CUTS OFF, AND I'M WORRIED IT WILL CUT OFF IN AN INTERSECTION OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT MACON, GA SUBARU HAS BEEN VERY UNHELPFUL AND UNWILLING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER NAMED KEVIN SAID THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY CAUSED BY FAILURE OF ONE OF TWO PARTS INVOLVING THE FUEL SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THEY ARE UNWILLING TO REPLACE THE PARTS. THE DEALERSHIP EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE BRUNT OF THE COST IF THEY SENT MY PART BACK TO SUBARU. THIS SEEMS LIKE AN UNACCEPTABLE REASON TO REFUSE TO ATTEMPT THE REPAIR OF SUCH A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
VEHICLE USES COOLANT AT AN ALARMING RATE WHICH HAS NEARLY LEAD TO OVERHEATING AND STALLING WHILE DRIVING. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN TRYING TO PASS MAKING THE MANEUVER UNSAFE. MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO LOOK AT CAR AGAIN, ALREADY BEEN IN SHOP 4 TIMES.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM SUCKS!!!!!!!!! THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND CAUSES ROAD RAGE !!!!! WHILE DRIVING THE SYSTEM USUALLY WILL NOT ACCEPT VOICE COMMANDS. SYSTEM SAYS "I'M SORRY I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND. LET'S TRY AGAIN." I TRY AGAIN; SAME RESPONSE. I AM USING THE SYSTEM RECOMMENDED COMMANDS SUCH AS "FIND NEAREST" OR "NAVIGATE TO : " ALSO WHEN TRYING TO ENTER A STREET NUMBER,STREET ,CITY, STATE; I GET THE SAME "I'M SORRY I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND. LET'S TRY AGAIN." WHEN I TRY AGAIN SYSTEM REPEATS "I'M SORRY I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND. LET'S TRY AGAIN." OR INTERRUPTS ME BEFORE I CAN TRY AGAIN. MY WIFE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SYSTEM. A LOT OF TIMES WHEN I SET A DESTINATION WITH THE KEYBOARD (NOT AVAILABLE WHEN MOVING); THE DIRECTIONS ARE WRONG WHEN YOU ARE NEAR THE DESTINATION, SUCH AS THE TURN DIRECTION OR LOCATION BEING TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT.THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND CAUSES ROAD RAGE !!!!! DEALER SAYS THE SYSTEM IS WORKING AS DESIGNED AND IS DIFFICULT TO USE. NO [XXX]! WE CONTACTED SUBARU. NO RESPONSE. I HAVE HAD STEERING ISSUES WITH THIS CAR SINCE DAY ONE, THE DEALER TOLD ME I HAD TO GET USE TO IT. CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS YOU FEEL LIKE YOU WERE HYDROPLANING-NO CONTROL THEN STEERING WOULD COME BACK. BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO DEALER AND THEY MADE ADJUSTS TO THE ALIGNMENT AND DOESN'T PULL TO RIGHT AS BAD. BUT THE FEELING OF HYDROPLANING STILL EXISTS AND THE DEALER CAN NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM .THEY TELL ME ITS WITHIN SUBARU'S SPECIFICATIONS THERE IS A REAL PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR SINCE DATE OF SERVICE 3-12-18
WHEN IT RAINS THE WATER DROPS DO NOT RUN OFF OF THE SIDE MIRRORS WE ARE UNABLE TO SEE. AT NIGHT THE DROPS OF WATER MAGNIFIES THE HEADLIGHTS OF THE CARS BEHIND US AND THIS BLINDS US. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. WE HAD TO SPEND THE NIGHT IN A MOTEL AS WE COULDN'T DRIVE. WE HAVE TRIED TO FIX THIS, BUT NOTHING WORKS
A CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW. THE CRACK IS ABOUT 7 INCHES IN LENGTH, RUNNING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW - WHERE IT MEETS THE RUBBER GASKET OF THE DOOR - UP AND TO THE RIGHT. IT OBSCURES THE RIGHT SIDE MIRROR. THIS CRACK APPEARED SUDDENLY ON 2/21/18. PRIOR TO THIS, WE NOTICED A BUBBLING OR WARPING OF THE WINDOW IN THE TOP LEFT AREA THAT DISTORTED THE VIEW - THIS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPORTED ON THE NHTSA SITE.
8" NAVIGATION/DISPLAY FROZEN. NO BACK-UP CAMERA WHEN IN REVERSE. DOES NOT RESPOND TO INPUTS EITHER ON THE DISPLAY OR FROM STEERING WHEEL. "POWER" SWITCH DID NOT POWER DOWN THE UNIT. STOPPING THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING DID NOT RESET THE UNIT. STOPPING THE ENGINE, OPEN AND CLOSE THE DRIVERS DOOR AND RESTARTING DID NOT RESET THE UNIT. REMAINED INOPERATIVE DURING MORNING COMMUTE (30 MIN). CENTER CONSOLE REMAINED ON AFTER EXITING AND LOCKING THE CAR. AFTER 9 HOURS THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. AFTER A JUMP-START, THE UNIT DID RESET AND SEEMS TO BE WORKING NORMALLY. THERE SHOULD BE A WAY TO POWER-DOWN (REBOOT) THE NAVIGATION/RADIO DISPLAY WITHOUT HAVING TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART THE ENGINE.
RAN OUT OF GAS WHEN GAUGE SHOWED 40 MILES LEFT - CAR LOCKED UP ON A 70MPH FREEWAY - REPORTED TO SUBARU ALMOST A YEAR AGO AND RECENTLY SAW WHERE A RECALL HAD BEEN INITIATED BUT CALLED SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THIS WILL BE RESOLVED EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE KNOW ABOUT IT FOR A YEAR - WHY IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE NHTSA IS FORCING THEM TO FIX
FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
UNEXPLAINED BATTERY DRAIN AFTER SEVERAL SHORT TRIPS AND/OR AFTER CAR IS NOT DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL DAYS .
WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING THE OUTBACK I HAD TO HAVE THE INFOTAINMENT HEAD UNIT REPLACED TWICE. I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES WHERE THE RADIO WILL COME ON BUT THERE IS NO SOUND, THE RADIO WILL TURN ON FULL BLAST AFTER A HANGING UP FROM A CALL, BACK UP CAMERA WILL BE BLACK UPON BACKING UP, SCREEN WILL FREEZE, STEERING WILL LOCK UP WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AND AFTER MY 36K MILE MAINTENANCE NOW MY CAR IS MAKING A STRANGE HUMMING NOISE. THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. SUBARU NEEDS TO PROVIDE MORE THAN A PUNY EXTENDED WARRENTY. THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND THEY KNOW IT.
I WAS ON AN ON RAMP ABOUT TO ENTER HIGHWAY NEAR WHERE I LIVE. I WASN'T YET AT HIGHWAY SPEED. SUDDENLY NOT SURE IF A ROCK OR ROCK SALT HIT MY WINDSHIELD. IT DIDN'T SOUND LIKE A LARGE PIECE, AND I DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT. WHAT SEEMED LIKE NORMAL ROAD DEBRIS THAT FROM MY EXPERIENCE WOULD NEVER AFFECT A WINDSHIELD AND HASN'T WITH OTHER CAR MAKES I'VE OWNED ACTUALLY IMPACTED MY 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. A SMALL CHIP/CHUNK OF GLASS APPEARED ON MY WINDSHIELD. WAS VERY SURPRISED AND APPALLED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RELIABLE SUBARU (438 S INGRAM MILL RD, SPRINGFIELD, MO 65802, (417) 720-8373) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL/SUSPENSION IS MAKING RATTLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE NOISE IS WORSE WHEN HITTING UNEVEN SURFACES ON THE ROAD (LIKE A REPAIR SPOT OR TRANSITION FROM CONCRETE TO ASPHALT) . THE FRONT-END SOUNDS LOOSE, AND THERE IS A SLIGHT VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR CAR INTO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY SAY ALL IS OK AND THE NOISE IS AS INTENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR.
I PURCHASED MY 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK ON DEC. 29, 2017. THREE WEEKS LATER, THE WINDSHIELD BEGAN TO SHOW A CRACK CREEPING UP FROM THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. MIND YOU, THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN MY DRIVEWAY. I NEVER WITNESSED THE WINDSHIELD SUSTAIN ANY IMPACT THAT WOULD CAUSE SUCH A CRACK. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIR UNDER THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS LODGED WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AUTHORITY, DESCRIBING THE SUBARU WINDSHIELD DEFECT ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, ON OCCASION AND WHILE IN MOTION, THE HEAD UNIT (NAVIGATION DISPLAY, RADIO, ETC.) IN MY 2018 OUTBACK LIMITED W/EYESIGHT, WILL FREEZE UP AND NO HARD OR SOFT BUTTONS WILL REACTIVATE THE SYSTEM. I HAD TO SHUT MY CAR DOWN FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE A "REBOOT" TOOK PLACE.
MOST OCCURRENCES WERE AT HIGH SPEED ON INTERSTATES. I THOUGHT IT WAS WIND RELATED BUT PROBABLY WASN'T. CAR WOULD SEEM TO MOVE SLIGHTLY WITH NO STEERING EFFORT AND THEN THE STEERING WOULD PUSH BACK SEVERELY ON CURVES SOMETIMES IT WOULD PUSH FROM SIDE TO SIDE SETTING UP A SWERVING MOTION. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON THIS CONTINUED FOR FOUR DAYS AND THEN HAS NOT BEEN EXPERIENCED AGAIN. SERVICE COULD NOT DUPLICATE. I CONSIDER THIS SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT IF IT CONTINUES I WILL TRADE THE CAR. THE MOVEMENTS ARE SEVERE ENOUGH IN MY OPINION TO BE DANGEROUS. THESE EVENTS OCCURRED ON 1-27,28,29,30-2018.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WITH A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE SRS OCCUPANCY DISPLAY INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG WAS NOW OFF EVEN THOUGH MY WIFE WAS STILL IN THAT SEAT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON EVERY DRIVE WE TAKE IN THE CAR THAT LASTS MORE THEN 25 MINUTES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER 2 MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. ADDITIONALLY, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW WAS ALSO CRACKER. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW AND WINDSHIELD WERE REPLACED WERE REPLACED BY INTERNATIONAL AUTOS ORLAND PARK (8031 159TH ST, TINLEY PARK, IL 60477). THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND AUTHORIZED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SIX MONTHS LATER, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW AND WINDSHIELD WERE AGAIN CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AFTER THE LAST FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS INTO THAT POSITION UNTIL MANUALLYMOVED OUT OF THAT POSITION AND THEN IT RETURNS TO NORMAL CENTER POSITION. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT COULD RUN INTO OTHER CARS OR OBJECTS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO SANGERA SUBARU (5500 GASOLINE ALLEY DR. BAKERSFIELD, CA 93313 PHONE #661-438-5588) TO BE CORRECTED. THE FAILURE WAS DUPLICATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT IS THE NORMAL OPERATION OF THE POWER STEERING MILAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 7,000 MILES. *DT*JB
WHILE DRIVING 70 MILES PER HOUR: ON MOST CURVES TO THE LEFT THE CAR SEEMS TO "GRAB" TO THE LEFT AND THEN I CORRECT THE SWING. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO ALMOST OVER CORRECT. AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE WHILE ON THE STRAIGHT WAY AND THE CAR WILL SEEM TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. NOT ENOUGH THAT I AM IN DANGER OF CRASHING BUT IS UNSETTLING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, A SMALL ROCK IMPACTED THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED A SMALL CRACK. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPAIRED AT A WINDSHIELD REPAIR SHOP THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER METROWEST SUBARU (948 WORCESTER ST, NATICK, MA 01760, (508) 651-2000) AND THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
STARLINK RADIO IN TOURING MODEL WITH 8"SCREEN UNRELIABLE. HAD ISSUES WITH TOUCHSCREEN FREEZING AND CD LOADING ERROR FROM PURCHASE DATE IN AUGUST TO DEC. 18, 2017. DEALER TRIED TO PERFORM SOFTWARE UPDATE AND FRIED RADIO. RADIO WAS REPLACED. ISSUES WORSE WITH NEW RADIO. TOOK 2500 MILE TRIP AND HAD COMPLETE FAILURE OF RADIO, NAVIGATION, BLUETOOTH, BACKUP CAMERA. LETTING CAR SIT CLEARED SOME ERRORS BUT LATER SIMILAR PROBLEMS REOCCURRED. ALSO HAVE ISSUE WITH DOORS DO NOT ALWAYS LOCK WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR OR UNLOCKING WHEN SHIFTING INTO PARK. THE RADIO CONTROLS THESE SETTINGS AND ALL DOORS ARE TO UNLOCK WHEN SHIFTED TO REVERSE OR DRIVE AND UNLOCK WHEN SHIFTED TO PARK. SOMETIMES NO DOORS LOCK WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. SOMETIMES ONLY THE FRONT DOORS UNLOCK WHEN SHIFTING TO PARK SOMETIMES NO DOORS UNLOCK WHEN SHIFTING TO PARK. DURING ONE PERIOD WHEN RADIO WAS OUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START UNTIL THE DRIVERS DOOR WAS OPENED AND CLOSED 3 TIMES. ISSUE WITH LOSS OF RADIO AND OTHER COMPONENTS OCCURS WHEN STARTING THE CAR. IT HAS NEVER OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT DOORS NOT LOCKING AND UNLOCKING SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. SUBARU APPEARS TO KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT DEALERS HAVE HAVE LITTLE INFORMATION AND SUBARU HAS NOT NOTIFIED OWNERS OF THE ISSUES BUT NUMEROUS POSTS IN SUBARU OUTBACK FORUM INDICATE NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS WITH THE 8" SCREEN ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM GIVES WRONG DIRECTIONS AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET IN ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT. ACCURATE VOICE COMMAND IS NEEDED FOR SAFETY WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND REALIZE I AM LOST AND NEED TO FIND OUT WHEN TO BEGIN TO MOVE OVER AND TO EXIT IT IS UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND MY VERY CLEAR SPEECH.
THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE LEFT. THE DEALER ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM TWICE IN TWO WEEKS BY DOING A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE IS STILL PULLING TO THE LEFT. A MORE CONCERNING ISSUE JUST STARTED. THE VEHICLE HAS APPLIED THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NOT HARD, JUST ENOUGH TO FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL JUMP TO THE RIGHT. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 TO 70 MPH ON A STRAIGHT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
THIS CAR HAS HAD BATTERY DRAINAGE ISSUES SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN 2017. IT HAS ONLY 10,000 MILES ON IT AND AND IS ON IT'S 3RD BATTERY. THE CAR MUST BE JUMP-STARTED IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IF I DRIVE THE CAR FOR A SHORT TRIP. IT ALSO OCCURS IF I TAKE LONGER TRIPS (I.E. 100 MILES) IN THAT THE BATTERY WILL BE DELETED IF I DO NOT DRIVE IT WITHIN 7 DAYS OR SO, I HAVE HAD THIS CAR JUMP-STARTED PROBABLY 20-30 TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUALLY BLAMES ME FOR THE PROBLEM AND SAYS I SHOULD NOT EXPECT THE CAR TO START IF I DO NOT START IT EVERY DAY. MOST OF THE TIME, I HAVE TO BORROW MY MOTHER'S BUICK TO HAVE A WORKING CAR. BECAUSE THE BATTERY IS CONSTANTLY DYING, THE POWER WINDOWS DO NOT WORK AND HAVE TO BE RESET AFTER EACH BATTERY DRAINAGE. I OWNED A 2014 SUBARU OUTBACK PRIOR TO TRADING UP TO THE 2018 MODEL. I HAVE THE EXACT DRIVING HABITS NOW AS I DID WITH THE 2014 MODEL. THE 2014 MODEL NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE STARTING. I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED BY OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM I'M HAVING. I CANNOT FULLY EXPRESS HOW DEEPLY I HATE THIS CAR AND REGRET TRADING UP. IT IS NOT RELIABLE. I HAVE PURCHASED A NOCO BOOST PLUS TO START MY CAR EACH TIME SO THAT I DON'T HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CALL TOW SERVICES. THE BATTERY ON THIS CAR IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO START THE CAR AND THE DEALERSHIP WILL ONLY REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER INSUFFICIENT BATTERY. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS MY LOW MILEAGE IS THE REASON MY CAR WON'T START, CLAIMING I DON'T DRIVE IT ENOUGH. THIS IS INFURIATING. I HAVE REPEATEDLY TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT IT HAS LOW MILEAGE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT START AND I CANNOT DRIVE IT, AND BORROWED MY MOTHER'S CAR FOR THE FIRST 2 YEARS BECAUSE OF THE BATTERY ISSUES ON THE SUBARU. THEY DO NOT CARE.
THERE IS A DISTORTED VIEW THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS. SUBARU OF AMERICA, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE LEASE WAS SIGNED AT, BOTH TELL ME THAT BECAUSE IT'S TEMPERED GLASS, THAT'S HOW THEY COME. THIS IS VISIBLE WHEN IN MOTION OR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. IT LOOKS AS THOUGH YOU'RE ALMOST LOOKING THROUGH A FISHBOWL. I'VE SAT IN NUMEROUS VEHICLES ON THE LOT THAT ALL APPEAR TO BE THE SAME. I HAVE VIDEOS OF THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY'RE UNABLE TO BE UPLOADED SINCE THE FILE SIZE IS TOO BIG. SUBARU IS OFFERING ME A CASH SETTLEMENT TO DEAL WITH THIS FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS, BUT I AM NOT FEELING TOO COMFORTABLE WITH TAKING THAT OFFER.
THE ABILITY TO ADJUST THE OUTSIDE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR IS SIGNIFICANTLY RESTRICTED IN COMPARISON TO THE PASSENGER OUTSIDE SIDE MIRROR. THIS INCREASES THE CHANCE OF AN OPERATOR BEING IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO REDUCED AWARENESS AND/OR NEEDED INCREASED REACTION TIME TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS DESIGN FLAW. THE BLIND SIGHT MONITORING SYSTEM SHOULD NOT BE USED AS THE ONLY SYSTEM TO DETECT VEHICLES IN YOUR BLIND SPOT. SUBARU DOES NEED TO ADDRESS THIS MATTER.
ON OCCASION, AND WHILE IN MOTION, THE HEAD UNIT (NAVIGATION DISPLAY, RADIO, ETC), IN OUR 2018 OUTBACK LIMITED W/ EYESIGHT, WILL FREEZE UP AND NO HARD OR SOFT BUTTONS WILL REACTIVATE THE SYSTEM. I MUST SHUT CAR DOWN FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE A "REBOOT" TAKES PLACE. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ON SUBARUOUTBACK.COM.
AFTER PUTTING ON HAZARD SWITCH AND LEAVING VEHICLE, I CAME BACK TO VEHICLE AND THE KEYLESS ENTRY WOULD NOT FUNCTION. SYSTEM DID NOT SEEM TO RECOGNIZE MY SMARTKEY AS THE DOOR HANDLE SENSOR DID NOT OPERATE. I TRIED THE BUTTONS ON THE SMARTLY FOB AND THEY TOO DID NOT FUNCTION. ALSO TRIED THE MOBILE REMOTE APP AND THAT TOO FAILED. I HAD TO USE THE MECHANICAL KEY TO ENTER VEHICLE. OF COURSE THE SECURITY HORN GOES OFF, BUT STRANGELY I WAS ABLE TO START VEHICLE SO SYSTEM WAS ABLE TO RECOGNIZE MY SMARTKEY AFTER ENTRY. PROBLEM SEEMS TO ONLY OCCUR AFTER A SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD. IF I PUT ON THE HAZARDS AND COME BACK IN A COUPLE MINUTES, SYSTEM WORKS NORMALLY. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR AROUND THE FIVE TO 10 MINUTE TIME FRAME.
LOW BEAMS UPPER HALF OF VIEW IS SO DARK I CAN NOT SEE THE ROAD. LOW BEAMS SEEMS TO CUT VIEW IN HALF HORIZONTALLY. I CAN'T SEE THROUGH UPPER HALF OF WINDSHIELD UNLESS HIGHBEAKS ARE ON. BRAND NEW CAR. JUST BOUGHT IT. ONLY 950 MILES ONNIT.
THE CAR IS PARKED. THE FLASHERS ARE ACTIVATED. THE CAR IS THEN LOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH THE KEY FOB. AFTER RETURNING TO THE CAR A SHORT TIME LATER (MAYBE 5 MINUTES OR SO) THE KEY FOB IS TOTALLY UNUSABLE. LOCK, UNLOCK, REAR HATCH OR PANIC DO NOT WORK. MUST THEN USE THE KEY IN THE DOOR LOCK, TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. THEN, OF COURSE, THE ALARM SOUNDS UNTIL YOU CAN PUT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION TO SILENCE THE ALARM. THERE APPEARS TO BE A TIME OUT PROBLEM BECAUSE THE KEY FOB CAN UNLOCK THE CAR WITH THE HAZARD FLASHERS ON, RIGHT AFTER LOCKING THE CAR BUT THIS PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN LEFT FOR A SHORT TIME. I HAVE GIVEN THIS PROBLEM TO SUBARU HEADQUARTERS AND THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER OF 1-27586772057. IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THE FLASHERS ARE ACTIVATED, IF THE CAR IS LOCKED AND UPON RETURNING A SHORT TIME LATER AND THE KEY FOB WON'T UNLOCK THE CAR, THERE COULD BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY IN A DANGEROUS LOCATION OR SOMEONE (ESPECIALLY AN OLDER PERSON) MIGHT PANIC AND NOT THINK CLEARLY WHAT TO DO NEXT. I AM ABLE TO REPEAT THIS PROBLEM AT ANY TIME SINCE IT HAPPENED. I TRIED BOTH KEY FOBS WITH THE SAME RESULT.

DRIVERS SIDE VIEW MIRROR DOES NOT ADJUST FAIR ENOUGH TO SEE MY BLIND SPOT WELL. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I'VE READ COUNTLESS FORUMS ON POPULAR SUBARU FORUM WEBSITES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
THE VOLUME OF THE PHONE RING: THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM GOING ON FOR YEARS, THROUGHOUT DIFFERENT YEAR MODELS, AND VERY WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET IN SEVERAL FORUMS AS WELL (HTTPS://WWW.SUBARUOUTBACK.ORG/THREADS/2018-W-NAV-PHONE-RING-VOLUME.497495/). EVERY TIME MY CELLPHONE RINGS, IT'S EAR PIERCINGLY LOUD. IT MAKES ONE JUMP LOUD. I DID TRY TO GET HELP AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT SADLY THERE IS NO REMEDY. THE PROBLEM IS TWOFOLD: 1. THE PHONE CONNECTED VIA BLUETOOTH TO THE CAR'S NATIVE SYSTEM. WHILE IN SETTINGS THERE IS A MODE WHERE ONE IS ABLE TO ADJUST THE RING VOLUME (WHICH IS FOR SOME REASON SET TO '10' BY DEFAULT) AND BRING IT DOWN TO '1-2', SOON AS ONE PARKS AND LEAVES THE CAR FOR EVEN AN HOUR THE SYSTEM RESETS TO '10'. EVEN WORST, SOMETIMES ALL ONE HAVE TO DO WITHOUT LEAVING THE VEHICLE, TO TURN UP THE VOLUME ON THE RADIO AND THAT WILL RESET THE PREVIOUSLY LOWERED RING VOLUME. 2. THE PHONE CONNECTED TO AIRPLAY FOR WHICH THERE ARE NO SETTINGS WHATSOEVER. EVEN IF THE PHONE IN SILENT MODE AND THERE IS NO SOUND FOR TEXT MESSAGES, IT RINGS OVERWHELMINGLY LOUD.
THESE INCIDENTS ARE ONGOING PROBLEMS FROM PURCHASING MY FIRST OUTBACK 4 YEARS AGO. THE QUESTION/ANSWER BELOW (*WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?) CANNOT BE ANSWERED TRUTHFULLY, PINPOINTED TO AN EXACT DATE. THE TINY KEY FROM THE FOB NEEDED TO UNLOCK, WHICH IS HARD ENOUGH ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE WITH DISABILITIES AND CONSEQUENTLY TRIGGERS THE CAR'S ALARM. WEATHER WARNINGS: THIS OUTRAGEOUS THING STARTED JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO (NOV. 2019), WHEN I WAS PROMPTED TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. EVER SINCE AT ANY WEATHER PHENOMENA (REGARDLESS OF MY PHONE BEING PLUGGED IN OR NOT, BLUETOOTH ON OR OFF) A WARNING APPEARS ON THE SCREEN AND ONE HAS TO INTERACT WITH IT. THIS WARNING POPS UP SOMETIMES EVERY 2-4 MINUTES WHILE DRIVING. ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED, AT NIGHT AND WHILE USING THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM IN UNFAMILIAR AREAS SINCE ONE'S BEEN DISTRACTED BY THE BLACKED OUT SCREEN. WHEN I FIRST REPORTED THIS ISSUE AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY SPENT AN ENTIRE DAY FINDING THE PROBLEM, UNSUCCESSFULLY. WHILE I APPRECIATE THE EFFORT, IT'S ABSOLUTELY NOT MY VEHICLE'S JOB TO TELL ME ABOUT THE WEATHER.
The head unit (infotainment system) in my vehicle is experiencing delamination, where the screen is peeling, separating, or forming bubbles. This causes: •Touchscreen malfunctions, making it difficult or impossible to operate controls such as audio, climate, navigation, and backup camera. •Distraction risk while driving due to unresponsive or erratic screen behavior. •Intermittent failure of vehicle systems that rely on the infotainment interface, increasing potential safety hazards. This is a known defect affecting multiple 2018 Subaru Outbacks and can occur even in properly maintained vehicles. The defect reduces safe operability of the vehicle while driving.
