EVER SINCE THE RECALL FOR THE COCKPIT CONTROL SYSTEM SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED ON MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK TOURING ON MARCH 1, 2021 THE CONSOLE RANDOMLY REBOOTS. IT HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES IN 3 WEEKS. ON A RECENT TRIP ON THURSDAY MARCH 25, 2021 THE CONSOLE REBOOTED 3 TIMES IN A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR. WHEN THAT HAPPENS THE SAFETY FUNCTIONS ARE DISABLED - PRE-COLLISION BRAKING, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, PRE-COLLISION THROTTLE MANAGEMENT, LANE DEPARTURE AND SWAY WARNING WITH LANE KEEP ASSIST, ETC.
VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE DOCUMENTED INCIDENTS OF THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM CRASHING OR GOING DARK AND BEING UNRESPONSIVE. TODAY DURING ANOTHER EPISODE THE VEHICLES ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT COME OUT OF CRUISE AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE AT SPEED. PLACED VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE ENTIRETY OF ELECTRICAL CONTROLS WERE UNRESPONSIVE. THE INFOTAINMENT CRASHING AND BECOMING INOPERABLE ARE A RELATIVELY COMMON EXPERIENCE, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
AFTER DRIVING THE CAR, PARKING, AND TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR A SHORT TIME, THE CAR WILL NOT START. THE BATTERY IS DEAD AND HAS TO GET JUMP STARTED. SOMETHING DRAINS THE BATTERY. THIS OCCURS RANDOMLY, BUR HAS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES, TWICE AT AROUND 7,000 MILES AND ONCE AT 8,800 MILES. AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED , THE DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE REAR DOME LIGHT WAS LEFT ON. WHILE I NEVER USED THE REAR DOME LIGHT, I ACCEPTED THE EXPLANATION. HOWEVER, WITH THIS LATEST OCCURRENCE , I AM CERTAIN THAT NO LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON. I WILL TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY CAN DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I CANNOT DEPEND ON THIS CAR TO START WHENEVER I GO TO DRIVE IT
I WAS MOVING VEHICLE INTO GARAGE WHEN I HEARD A "POP". I SAW A CRACK ABOUT 2/3RDS UP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. CRACK STARTED FROM THE EDGE OF THE GLASS AND IS PROPAGATING TOWARDS MOVING TOWARDS THE CENTER.
ELECTRICAL POWER FAILURES SUBARU OUTBACK 2020 ON 5 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IN THE PAST 10 MONTHS OUR NEW 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS FAILED TO START AND WE HAVE BEEN STRANDED. THERE WAS NO ELECTRICAL POWER. EVERY TIME: 'THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN REGULARLY, INCLUDING ON THE PRIOR DAY. 'WHEN WE TRIED TO START THE CAR, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. WE HAD NEVER LEFT LIGHTS ON, DOORS OPEN ETC. 'THE CAR JUMP STARTED EASILY AND THEN WOULD BEHAVE NORMALLY FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS. EPISODE 1 5.15.20 LOCAL DEALERSHIP TESTED AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS EPISODE 2 5.22.20 LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPLACED BATTERY EPISODE 3 1.11.21 TO 1.19.21 LOCAL DEALER HAD CAR FOR 8 DAYS. THEY WORKED WITH SUBARU NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS ENGINEERS. NO PROBLEMS FOUND. NO LOANER CAR PROVIDED EPISODE 4. 3.21.21 JUMP STARTED. SUBARU CONTACTED. I KEPT THE CAR WAITING ADVICE FROM SUBARU. CAR WENT WELL FOR 2 DAYS EPISODE 5 3.23.21 DIED AGAIN. SUBARU CONTACTED. I KEPT THE CAR WAITING ADVICE FROM SUBARU. HAVE NOT RESTARTED. I WANT THE CAR REPLACED.
DRIVING AND NOTICED A CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE I CAN HEAR THE GLASS MAKING CRACKING SOUNDS AND THE CRACK STARTED TO SPREAD FAST ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. DID NOT DRIVE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 WEEKS AND CRACK GREW WITHIN THE TIME FRAME.
PURCHASED CAR FROM DEALERSHIP,PARKED 10 HOURS, BATTERY DEAD.
ON MARCH 1, 2021 VEHICLE HAD 4992 MILES ON IT AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. HAD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAVE VEHICLE JUMPED. TOOK TO DEALER, THEY SAID BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND STARTER, TESTED GOOD. ON MARCH 17TH, VEHICLE HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED. ON MARCH 18TH, VEHICLE HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED TWICE IN THE SAME DAY. ON MARCH 19TH, VEHICLE HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED AND TAKEN TO DEALER. VEHICLE NOW HAS 5192 MILES. ON MARCH 19, 2021, A CASE WAS OPENED WITH SUBARU OF AMERICA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE OF A CRACK ON THE UPPER SECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRACK WAS NOT CAUSED BY AN IMPACT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRACK OBSTRUCTED HER VISION WHILE DRIVING. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE LOWER CENTER WHILE PARKING IN THE GARAGE. NO KNOWN IMPACT HAPPENED.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THE NEAREST CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS APPEARED TO BE A FOOTBALL FIELD AWAY, IN FRONT OF ME. I NEVER SAW ANYTHING BOUNCING IN FRONT OF ME/TOWARDS ME. IT LITERALLY SOUNDED LIKE SOMEONE SHOT AT THE CAR. THE INTERIOR SHADE WAS CLOSED. TEMPERATURE WAS APPROX. 75 DEGREES. OCCURRED AT 7:17PM. THERE WAS NO SOUND OF ANYTHING HITTING THE GLASS, IT JUST SHATTERED.
WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED TWICE WITHIN 15 MONTHS. BOTH CRACKS STARTED AS SMALL CHIPS AND QUICKLY (WITHIN HOURS) TURNED INTO LARGE CRACKS SPANNING THE MAJORITY OF THE WINDSHIELD. BOTH CHIPS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY.
Noted to have large vertical crack in front passenger window while driving. Appears area of impact approximately size of #2 mechanical pencil lead point. No sound from impact noticeable. Resulting damage: large vertical crack extending the entire span of passenger window. Vehicle less than 1 year old at time. This vehicle has had 2 other grossly exaggerated glass incidents of this type (to the windshield). In all 3 incidents, damage far exceeds what would be expected given size of initial impact area.
BOUGHT BRAND NEW, IN 5 MONTHS THE WINDSHIELD HAD A CRACKED WINDSHIELD, NOT THE IMPACT STRIKE SPIDER TYPE, BUT FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE EDGE, STRAIGHT LINE CRACK 2 FEET LONG. THE SECOND TIME A CRACK, STRAIGHT LINE TYPE FROM THE PASSENGER EDGE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BOTH TIMES, 50 MILES AN HOUR, NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRACK, THE CRACK WOULD GET LONGER. NEVER SCENE ANYTHING LIKE IT.
MY CAR HAS 6700 MILES AND THE BATTERY COMPLETELY DIED. AFTER HAVING IT JUMP STARTED BY CSAA, I DROVE IT TO SUBARU. THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT SUBARU WAS HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THEIR CARS.
A FEW MINUTES INTO A DRIVE THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD (AFTER 9PM) WE NOTICED A SMALL CRACK APPEAR IN THE MIDDLE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES WE WATCHED IT GROW FROM A COUPLE OF INCHES TO ABOUT 10 INCHES IN LENGTH. IT ONLY TOOK A MINUTE OR TWO FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. WE NEVER DROVE OVER 25 MPH. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS ON THE STREETS. THERE WAS NORTHING AROUND THAT COULD HAVE HIT OUR WINDSHIELD. IT HAPPENED ALL BY ITSELF. 32 YEARS OF DRIVING MANY VEHICLES AND I NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN AT NIGHT RIGHT AFTER AS WE WENT STRAIGHT HOME. HARD TO SEE THE ENTIRE LENGTH BECAUSE OF THE NIGHT PICTURE. NOT SURE HOW MUCH BIGGER THE CRACK COULD HAVE GOTTEN. LUCKILY WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME AND NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGHER SPEED.
BATTERY GOES DEAD WHEN DON'T DRIVE IT WEEKLY. PURCHASED NEW FROM DEALER IN JUNE 2020. HAVE HAD AAA OUT TWICE TO JUMP THE BATTERY. HAVE BEEN TOLD BY AAA AND DEALERSHIP TO DRIVE THE CAR OR START IT AND LET IT RUN FOR 30 MINUTES EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS TO KEEP BATTERY CHARGED BECAUSE ELECTRONICS DRAIN THE BATTERY. CAR WAS IN GARAGE.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Outback. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, a tiny rock struck the windshield. The contact stated that later that day while the vehicle was parked, she noticed that the windshield was cracked. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not repair the windshield. The vehicle was taken to a glass repair facility and the windshield was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken back to an independent glass repair facility who replaced the windshield. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND THE BATTERY WAS TOO WEAK. I CHARGED THE BATTERY AND LET THE CAR RUN 15 MINUTES. FOUR DAYS LATER, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR, THE BATTERY WAS TOO WEAK AGAIN. I FOUND REFERENCE TO THIS AS AN ISSUE POSSIBLY KNOWN TO SUBARU OF AMERICA WITH RECOMMENDATION TO REPORT TO NHTSA.
2 OEM WINDSHIELDS IN A ROW - THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE CAR AND A REPLACEMENT, HAVE BOTH HAD CRACKS OF OVER 24 INCHES WITH MULTIPLE FRACTURE LINES ALL STEMMING FROM ONE TINY ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD AND LEAVING A PIT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE INTERSTATE BOTH TIMES THE SMALL ROCKS STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD AND CREATED THE PITS THAT LATER TURNED INTO THE LARGE CRACKS.
After taking my car to dealer for WRI20 RECALL on 03/10/21, I have experienced intermittent issues with the touch screen and steering wheel controls. My touch screen will go black, act as if rebooting, radio button non responsive, “No audio” message across top of screen which affects radio and phone (safety issue) and contacts from phone appear and disappear. On my dash, the message ‘keep your eyes on the road” would continue repeatedly with my eyes staring straight at the road (irritating and safety issue)- voice control would not respond at all or it would ask if I wanted to set it up (already done). I drive over the Sierra (Donner Pass) quite frequently and need the security of a working navigation system (blank screen - no navigation) and an operational phone. I brought my car in for service initially 04/01/21 but it was returned 04/02/21 with no issues being replicated and car in “normal” working order. My car has now been sitting at the dealership since 04/25/21 with the same issues as before and I am driving a loaner. I have been in touch with Subaru and a case has been opened. I was supposed to hear from them today but no contact locally or from corporate. The only thing I have been told is - if they can not replicate the problem they can not do anything. I have provided photos of some of the issues (when I could safely take pic) but still been told nothing can be done under warranty if they can’t replicate it. I am so frustrated that Subaru wants to return a car to me that I DO NOT feel safe driving.
MY OUTBACK WAS BOUGHT NEW LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO AND NOW THE CAR BATTERY WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE. MY CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 3,000 MILES ON IT, IT'S USED MOSTLY FOR CITY DRIVING. ONE MORNING MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD IN OUR DRIVEWAY, NOTHING WOULD TURN ON, SO WE JUMPED THE CAR BATTERY AND IT WORKED FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. WHEN THE CAR TURNED ON, NO LIGHTS WERE ON TO INDICATE THAT THE BATTERY HAD BEEN DRAINED DUE TO LIGHTS BEING KEPT ON. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AGAIN. WE JUMPED THE CAR AGAIN, BUT AFTER NOT BEING USED FOR SEVERAL HOURS THE CAR BATTERY WAS AGAIN COMPLETELY DEAD. WE ARE TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT IT APPEARS THERE IS ALREADY A LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU FOR THE SAME THING HAPPENING IN OTHER 2016-2020 OUTBACKS.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Outback. The contact stated while sitting in the vehicle parked at a doctor’s office, the driver noticed that the front windshield started to crack from the driver’s side and extended to the middle of windshield. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer who inspected the vehicle but was unable to provide the diagnostic cause for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 20,800.
I have owned the 2020 Subaru Outback since December 2020. Staring in 2021 there have been problems with the lift gate not opening to where it now closes immediately after opening it. This occurs randomly and causes a dangerous situation where one never knows when it will happen. The car has been brought in for service four times over the last four years. Now, that it is out of warranty, and Royal Subaru, Cortland NY, charged us, two weeks ago, $170 to repair the dysfunctional lift gate. The problem was not fixed. The car was left at last Thursday for the repairing the lift gate which they didn’t fix. Subaru who now want to charge $991 to repair what the dealership was supposed to repair. The work had not been done as yet as it is a manufacturing defect, and a dangerous one at that. This Outback issue is not on my car alone as there have numerous online complaints about a malfunctioning lift gate problem. It’s a law suit waiting to happen as one (family members, grandchildren, friends) may not be aware that the lift gate may close upon their head causing a possible concussion or worse. There needs to be a recall before someone gets seriously hurt.
MY 2020 SUBARU TOURING OUTBACK'S WINDSHIELD CRACKED AS IT WAS PARKED AT HOME IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS OCCURRED ON MARCH 6TH 2021. THE CRACK IN GOES ABOUT HALF WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD IN THE LINE OF SIGHT AS I DRIVE IT. IT HAD NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD AT ALL THAT DAY. I DROVE IT THE DAY BEFORE AND THERE WAS NO CRACK OR CHIP PRESENT. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD AND A HAZARD WHILE I AM DRIVING AS IT IMPAIRED MY LINE OF SIGHT. THE REPAIR WAS OVER $1000, BUT MY DEDUCTIBLE WAS $50 FROM GEICO.
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED AT THE BOTTOM CENTER OF THE GLASS NEAR THE VENTS. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BUT NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AROUND. THERE WAS NO IMPACT OR ROCK.
ON 9/27/2021 I BOUGHT A NEW 2020 SUBURU OUTBACK FROM CAMELBACK SUBURU IN PHOENIX AZ. WE HAVE NOW HAD TWO WINDSHIELDS CRACK STARTING FROM THE LEFT A PILLAR AND CONTINUE ACROSS THE REST OF THE WINDSHIELD IN SHORT ORDER. BOTH WINDSHIELDS CRACKED FROM THE SAME SPOT WITHOUT ANY CAUSE, IE ROCKS ETC. THE DEALERSHIP IS CLAIMING IT IS FROM ROCKS. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I BELIEVE THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON AND ARE DEFRAUDING ME OUT OF A LEGITIMATE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY CLAIM. I HAVE TALKED WITH MY INSURANCE AGENT AND THIS WILL BE AN ISSUE WITH THEM WITH TWO CLAIMS IIN SUCH A SHORT TIME.
VEHICLE PARKED AT CHARLOTTE DOUGLAS AIRPORT FROM 2/27/21-3/5/21 DEVELOPED WINDSHIELD CRACK IN STATIONARY CONDITION WITH NO OBSERVABLE EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELD OR CAR. LUCKILY THE CRACK IS MINOR AND DID NOT IMPAIR DRIVING BUT A FULL REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. SEEMS LIKE THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO AN ALMOST NEW PARKED CAR WITH NO NOTICEABLE DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELD.
WHILE DRIVING MY SUBARU OUTBACK TODAY ON A CLEAN, CLEAR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH VERY FEW OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED, MAKING A VERY LOUD NOISE. THE CRACK ORIGINATED AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD TO THE RIGHT OF CENTER AND TRAVELLED UP AND TO THE LEFT.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT OR OBVIOUS REASON. WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANY OBJECT. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING.
LAST SUNDAY MORNING I DISCOVERED A CRACKED WINDSHIELD AS I GOT INTO THE CAR. CRACK APPEARED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WAS NOT THERE THE DAY BEFORE WHEN CAR WAS LAST DRIVEN. CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT.
WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A PROGRESSIVE CRACK FROM EDGE ON PASSENGER SIDE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CRACK WAS NOT THERE ON FRIDAY, 2/26/2021 AT THE END OF THE DAY. HOWEVER, WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT ON SATURDAY MORNING, 2/27/2021 THERE WAS A 6-8 INCH CRACK. THE CRACK HAS CONTINUED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING NOR DID ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD.
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AT MY RESIDENCE. I GOT SOMETHING OUT OF MY GLOVE BOX AND IT WAS FINE. I WENT BACK AN HOUR LATER TO PUT THE ITEM BACK AND NOTICED THE WINDSHIELD HAD A LARGE CRACK IN IT.

MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS HAD A 2ND INCIDENT WITH A WINDSHIELD CRACK THAT DRAMATICALLY SPREAD MORE THAN A FOOT LONG ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD, STARTING FROM A PIN-NEEDLE-SIZED HOLE NEAR THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER, I.E., ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AROUND SPEED LIMIT WHEN A PEBBLE HIT IT, CAUSING THE TINY HOLE, WHICH ONLY ERUPTED INTO A HUGE CRACK AFTER I PARKED IT. I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR EXACTLY 1 YEAR WHEN IT HAPPENED AND IT'S ONLY BEEN DRIVEN FOR LESS THAN 6,000 MILES. THE WINDSHIELD SEEMS THIN AND NOT DURABLE.
DROVE CAR ON WEDNESDAY (2/17/21) AND PARKED IN MY GARAGE. WENT TO DRIVE CAR ON FRIDAY AND SAW I HAD AN L SHAPED CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD FROM PASSENGER PILLAR ACROSS AND DOWN THE WINDSHIELD. NO DING IS FELT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD.

WINDSHIELD CRACKED DOWN THE MIDDLE WHILE DRIVING ON A CLEAR DAY AND NOTHING SEEMED TO HAVE HIT THE WINDOW

THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER CANNON SUBARU (5212 FLORIDA AVE S, LAKELAND, FL 33813, (888) 450-8918) AND MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,567.
WINDSHIELD STARTED CRACKING FROM BELOW THE WIPE TRIM AND KEEPS CRACKING. WAS DRIVING UP DONNER SUMMIT HWY 80. TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. TEMPERATURE IN 20'S ELEVATION GAIN TO NEAR 6500 FEET. SOME SLEET SNOW WIPERS IN USE. NOTICED CRACK AFTER STORM CLEARED. CRACK HAPPENED FROM NO KNOWN IMPACT. DIDN'T HEAR ANY ROCK IMPACT.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING.
RETURNED TO CAR FOUND FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED. NO EVENT OCCURRED TO MY RECOLLECTION TO CAUSE THIS
I PURCHASED MY 2020 OUTBACK IN MAY 2020. IN FEBRUARY 2021, I HAD ABOUT 5400 MILES ON THE CAR WHEN THE BATTERY SEEMED TO DIE. ADMITTEDLY THE TEMPERATURES WERE COLD AND THE CAR WAS OUTSIDE FOR 48 HOURS WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN. I WAS UNABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY JUMPSTART THE CAR WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO DO SO ONE WEEK LATER. THE TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS IN THE UPPER 20S. I TRIED AGAIN 3 DAYS LATER WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 40. I SUCCESSFULLY JUMPSTARTED IT THAT DAY AND I LET IT IDLE FOR 20 MINUTES. THE NEXT MORNING, IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN SO I HAD TO JUMPSTART IT ONCE AGAIN. THIS TIME I IDLED IT FOR 20 MINUTES IN THE MORNING AND 20 MINUTES IN THE AFTERNOON (IT STARTED WITHOUT A JUMP IN THE AFTERNOON). THE NEXT MORNING IT ONCE AGAIN REQUIRED JUMPSTARTING. I LET IT IDLE FOR 20 MINUTES IN THE MORNING AND ANOTHER 20 MINUTES IN THE AFTERNOON (ONCE AGAIN JUMPSTARTING IN THE AFTERNOON WAS NOT NECESSARY). FINALLY, IT STARTED ON ITS OWN THE NEXT MORNING AND I DROVE IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID EVERYTHING WITH THE BATTERY AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS FINE. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I AM NOT CONVINCED ABOUT THIS IN LIGHT OF PROBLEMS WITH 2017-2019 OUTBACK BATTERY FAILURES.
CAR WILL NOT START. BATTERY IS DEAD. WE DROVE IT MONDAY AND IT WAS FINE. WE DID NOT USE LIGHTS AND MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OFF. TODAY, IT WOULD NOT START. BATTERY WAS DEAD!
CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING FINE SINCE PURCHASED NEW IN AUG 2020. I HAD A NORMAL 6 MONTH SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR MONDAY FEB 8, 2021. ON SUNDAY FEB 7, 2021 CAR WOULDN'T START. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY CAME TO MY HOME AND USED A BATTERY STARTER TO JUMP START THE CAR. I LET THE CAR RUN FOR 30 MINUTES TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR STARTED FINE SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SCHEDULED SERVICE APPOINTMENT. I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE BATTERY BECAUSE THE CAR HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED THE DAY BEFORE. WHEN THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETE I WAS TOLD THAT THE BATTERY CHECKED OUT FINE. REFER TO ITEM #5 ON ATTACHED SERVICE REPORT. I DROVE THE CAR HOME. ON WEDNESDAY FEB 10, 2021 I TRIED TO START THE CAR BUT IT WOULDN'T START. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CAME TO MY HOME AND JUMP STARTED THE CAR. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOK FOR A PROBLEM. THE DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP TOOK ABOUT 45 MINUTES. WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND, WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR STANDING NEXT TO THE CAR, TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I'VE SINCE LOOK INLINE FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND HAVE FOUND THAT LAWSUITS HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST SUBARU REGARDING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. SEE PAGE #1 OF ATTACHED MAGAZINE ARTICLE.
ON TUESDAY 9 FEBRUARY, 2021 I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM PICKING MY TWO CHILDREN UP FROM SCHOOL (AGE 4 AND 6). AS I APPROACHED THE DRIVE WAY THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY TO ALLOW ME TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY, BUT SUDDENLY THE BRAKES STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND THE CAR ACCELERATED DRIVING STRAIGHT THROUGH MY CLOSED GARAGE DOOR. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL STEERING BUT REGARDLESS OF MY FOOT PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THANKFULLY, INSTALLED IN THE CEMENT WAS A ROGUE R3 WEIGHT RACK THAT WAS BOLTED INTO THE CEMENT AT FOUR LOCATIONS. THE CAR PROCEEDED FORWARD UNTIL COLLIDING WITH THE WEIGHT RACK, A MERE 3 FEET FROM OUR HVAC SYSTEM AND THE HOME STRUCTURE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. IF THE WEIGHT RACK DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE MYSELF AND MY TWO CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY INJURED, NOT TO MENTION, IF MY HUSBAND OR TWO SMALL CHILDREN WERE IN THE GARAGE AT THE TIME, THIS COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY RESULTED IN DEATH. MY AIR BOGS DID NOT DEPLOY, THE AUTO COLLISION SAFETY MECHANISM FAILED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY IN HOPES TO KEEP THIS AS A FAMILY VEHICLE FOR MANY YEARS TO COME, PRIMARY REASON FOR PURCHASE WAS SAFETY. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. MY VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO RPM PERFORMANCE IN BURLINGTON WASHINGTON FOR INSPECTION. LATER, BROUGHT TO DWAYNE LANES SUBARU (PURCHASE LOCATION) FOR INSPECTION. FINDINGS WERE THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED AND DRIVER IS AT FAULT. THIS VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE. DANGEROUSLY UNSAFE AND THIS MUST BE MADE HIGHEST PRIORITY TO PREVENT FUTURE ACCIDENTS AND POTENTIAL DEATHS.
MY WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED OVERNIGHT WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. ONE MORNING AS I WAS GETTING IN THE VEHICLE AND I NOTICED A CRACK HAD APPEARED IN THE WINDSHIELD ORIGINATING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE GLASS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND EXTENDING UP AND TO THE CENTER ABOUT A FOOT.
WITHIN 12 HOURS OF HAVING THE CAR, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR SEEMINGLY NO REASON. NO ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD NOR WAS I USING AIR CONDITIONING OR THE HEATER. OUTSIDE TEMP WAS ABOUT 65F. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH.
I purchased an Subaru Outback touring edition, with a turbo 4 cylinder engine, on February 8, 2020. My battery failed in 3/20, on 4/15/20 Diablo Subaru of Walnut Creek replaced the dead battery. In March of 2022 my battery died again. I was told the rear cargo light had been left on and that drained the battery. They recharged the battery and said the battery was good. After this event I bought a small battery operated jump starter to keep in my car. We went on vacation for 2 weeks, August 24, through September 7, 2022. The first time I tried to start my car it would not start. I turned of the climate control the radio and the infotainment screen and verified that none of the interior lights were on before turning the engine off. When I returned to the car it started reluctantly. Before exiting my car at home I again made sure that the climate control, radio, and infotainment screen and all lights were off, before turning the engine off. The next day it didn't start. I jumped it again then ran one errand and it reluctantly started, at home I left the car running before my next appt.. I returned to the car after the appt. and the car would not start. I jumped it again and drove home. I left it running for one hour at home, and went through my routine insuring everything was off. The next day it didn't start. Other electrical problems happen intermittently since buying the car. Periodically the infotainment system touchscreen will not respond to touch. or the screen goes blank and unresponsive. It may come back on in a few minutes, or I may need to leave the car off for one or more hours for the screen to come on. I complained to the dealer in 2/21. The dealer reprogrammed the "CPI". This didn't resolve the problem. I took it back 5/11/21 with no resolution. Since 3/16/22 there have been random electrical problems; warnings that ABS is off; Airbags are off; warning to watch the road that won't turn off while driving; seatbelt bell on, with belts fastened.
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES, WHEN WE STARTED TO HEAR A CRACKLING SOUND. SOON AFTER, WE WATCHED THE WINDSHIELD START TO CRACK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CRACK CONTINUED TO SPREAD, AND BY THE TIME WE RETURNED HOME, THE CRACK EXTENDED FURTHER. WE WERE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 61 MPH WHEN THE CRACK STARTED, NO TURNS OR BUMPS IN THE ROAD AT THE TIME THE CRACK APPEARED. THIS HAPPENED ON OUR 2020 OUTBACK TOURING WITH 2,300 MILES, THAT WE PURCHASED OCTOBER 2020.
