THE CENTER SCREEN OF OUR CAR SUDDENLY WENT BLANK. I USED THE APP FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE TO TURN ON THE CLIMATE CONTROL. WE WENT TO THE GARAGE AND UNPLUGGED THE CAR FROM THE CHARGER. I RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION ON MY PHONE THAT THE CAR WAS UNPLUGGED. UPON ENTERING THE CAR WE FOUND THE CENTER SCREEN TO BE BLANK AND UNRESPONSIVE. WE ATTEMPTED TO REBOOT THE SCREEN BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. THE CLIMATE CONTROL WAS STUCK CONTINUING TO COOL THE CAR. THE CAR WILL NO LONGER CHARGE PROPERLY. THE APP WILL NO LONGER CONNECT TO THE CAR. WE PULLED THE FUSE FOR THE TOUCHSCREEN TO GET THE CLIMATE CONTROL TO TURN OFF. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE. PUBLIC INFORMATION INDICATES THAT THE ISSUES IS A FAILED EMMCDUE TO EXCESSIVE WRITING TO THE CHIP DUE TO TESLA'S DESIGN.
MCU FAILURE INCLUDING BLACK SCREEN. NO TOUCH SCREEN, CLIMATE CONTROLS DOES NOT WORK, TURN SIGNAL NOT WORKING. CAN NOT CONTROL HEAD LIGHTS. CHARGING NOT RESPONDING. NAVIGATION NOT WORKING. BACK UP CAMERA NOT WORKING.
THE INFORMATION SCREEN FAILED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. THERE IS NO CONTROL OF THE CAR'S SYSTEMS LIKE CHARGING BACK-UP CAMERA, HEAT, AC, SUSPENSION,LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER SYSTEMS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MCU HAD REACHED IT'S "END OF LIFE" AND THE COMPUTER CAN ONLY BE OVER WRITTEN A CERTAIN NUMBER OF TIMES. ONLY TESLA OVER WRITES THE COMPUTER. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY TESLA.
MCU1 SCREEN GOES BLACK, DISABLING CLIMATE CONTROL, HEADLIGHTS, BLINKERS, LOCK/UNLOCK DOORS & TRUNKS, AUTO PILOT, TOW MODE, WIPER SERVICE AND OTHER FEATURES THAT CONTROL THE CAR. MY CAR IS DUE FOR NY SAFETY INSPECTION THAT IT WILL CURRENTLY FAIL. MY CAR WAS ON HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED THE SCREEN FROZE. THAT WAS FEBRUARY 2020, THIS HAPPENED WHERE BLUETOOTH AND MUSIC STOPPED RESPONDING WHILE DRIVING. I WAS AT COSTCO AND AFTER I LOADED THE TRUNK UP, GOT IN THE CAR THE SCREEN WAS BLACK AND NO BACKUP CAMERAS OR BLINKERS, THIS HAPPENED WHILE PARKED BUT I HAD TO GET IT HOME USING HAND SIGNALS TO GET HOME. I HAD TO DRIVE IT LIKE. I HAD UPLOADED A PICTURE OF IT IN THE TESLA APP AND I CAN'T RETRIEVE IT.
MCU FAILURE. DUE TO FAILED MCU THERE'S NO BACKUP CAMERA OR ANY OF THE SAFETY FEATURES. EVERY TESLA MODEL S/X BUILT BETWEEN 2012-2018 GOES THROUGH THIS ISSUE.
THE TOUCHSCREEN IN MY 2015 MODEL S HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. I'VE ATTEMPTED ALL OF THE RESETS THAT TESLA RECOMMENDS TO RESTART THE SYSTEM TO NO AVAIL. THE CAR IS NEARLY USELESS, NONE OF THE ELECTRICAL FEATURES OF THE VEHICLE WORK, INCLUDING HEATING/AIR CONDITIONING, CHARGING FEATURES, AUDIO OR TURN SIGNALS. THE CAR WORKED FINE YESTERDAY, TODAY THE SCREEN WAS JUST GONE.
THE MASTER CONTROL UNIT STOPPED FUNCTIONING ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND HADN'T BEEN STARTED IN A FEW DAYS. IT WAS IN MY GARAGE. THIS MEANT THE CAR WOULD DRIVE BUT THE REAR CAMERA WOULD NOT FUNCTION, THE INFOTAINMENT WOULDN'T FUNCTION, BLUETOOTH, AIR CONDITIONING, ETC. IN SHORT, NO USER CONTROLS.
WHEN WE WENT OUT TO OUR GARAGE TO DRIVE OUR 2015 TESLA MODEL S 85D ON JULY 9TH, WE FOUND THAT THE MAIN SCREEN HAD FAILED. THE SMALL SCREEN IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL WORKING, BUT THE 17" SCREEN WAS BLACK. I TRIED THREE TIMES TO REBOOT THAT SCREEN, BUT NO SUCCESS. I CALLED THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER AND THEY HAD ME HOLD THE RESET ROLLERS DOWN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE FOR AT LEAST TWO MINUTES. I DID SO, BUT NO HELP. THEY WILL BE SENDING A RANGER OUT TO REPAIR THE ISSUE ON 7-22-2020. I ASSUME THAT THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE TESLA MCU FAILING, WHICH WILL BE PRICEY TO REPAIR. LUCKILY IT WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE WHEN IT FAILED RATHER THAN OUT ON THE ROAD.
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I NOTICED THAT THE CENTER SCREEN (MCU) WAS NOT TURNING ON. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL SYSTEM RESETS, I GAVE UP AND USED OUR OTHER VEHICLE FOR THE TRIP. AFTER SCHEDULING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT, I WAS CONTACTED BY A TESLA SUPPORT TO FURTHER DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT. THE MEMORY CHIP (EMMC) IN MY VEHICLE'S MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU) HAS FAILED, WHICH PREVENTS THE MCU FROM FUNCTIONING. THE MCU CONTROLS MANY ASPECTS OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING LIGHTING, SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENT, CLIMATE CONTROL, NAVIGATION, ACCESSORIES, ENTERTAINMENT, VEHICLE STATUS, ETC. WITHOUT THE MCU, THE VEHICLE IS STILL DRIVABLE, BUT IN A SERIOUSLY COMPROMISED STATE. THE BACKUP CAMERA IS NOT AVAILABLE, THE CLIMATE SYSTEM IS OFF AND CAN NOT BE TURNED ON. VARIOUS AUDIBLE WARNINGS CAN OCCUR SPURIOUSLY, LIKE THE CHIME FOR AN OPEN DOOR OR HATCH, AND OBSTACLE PROXIMITY. TESLA IS AWARE OF THE EMMC FAILURE IN THEIR EARLIER VEHICLES (THOSE EQUIPPED WITH MCU VERSION 1, LIKE MINE), AND OFFERS A TO REPACE THE MCU WITH A REFURBISHED UNIT FOR $1100, OR AN UPGRADE TO MCU2 (WHICH INCLUDES THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER COMPUTER/SCREEN AS WELL) FOR $2500. THIS SERIOUS ISSUE IS DUE TO A DESIGN DEFICIENCY OF THE VERSION 1 MCU. TESLA SHOULD ORDER A RECALL OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES AND DO THE REPAIR AT NO COST TO THE OWNER.
TESLA TOUCHSCREEN WENT BLACK WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT POSSIBILITY TO CONTROL MOST OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR SUCH AS LIGHTS, REAR VIEW CAMERA, ETC. THIS IS KNOWN AS THE TESLA MCU FAILURE. TESLA DOES NOT WANT TO OWN THIS ISSUE AND IS ASKING CUSTOMERS TO PAY 1,500$ TO REPLACE WITH A REFURBISHED MCU WHICH WILL PRESENT THE SAME ISSUE 2-3 YEARS FROM INSTALLATION.
PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE USED THE VIN OF A JUNKYARD TESLA TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT SINCE THE VIN OF THE AFFECTED CAR IS UNAVAILABLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL AND PULLED IT TO THE SHOULDER. I GET OUT AND SEE THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR IS SLAMMED TO THE GROUND, AND THE FENDER IS RIDING ON THE TIRE. I LIMP IT TO A SAFER SPOT IN A NEARBY PARKING LOT, AND TAKE A LOOK. THE STEERING KNUCKLE CASTING IS FRACTURED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR SPRING! TESLA ROADSIDE SAYS THEY SEE NOTHING REMOTELY WRONG WITH MY CAR, SO I'LL NEED TO PAY FOR THE TOW MYSELF. I HAVEN'T HEARD OF THIS BEFORE, AND IT DOESN'T SEEM COMMON. I'M ASSUMING A CASTING DEFECT CAUSED A CRACK THAT PROPAGATED INTO A COMPLETE FRACTURE. LUCKILY MY DASHCAM SHOWS THAT THIS WASN'T CAUSED BY HITTING ANYTHING, AS I'M SURE THAT'S THE LIKELY REASON SC WOULD GIVE FOR A CASTING TO FRACTURE LIKE THAT.** THESE STEERING KNUCKLES ARE MADE FROM POOR QUALITY CAST ALLOY AND THIS SAME FAILYRE HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER CARS. THE MCU (VERSION 1) OF MY CAR STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE PARKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE (EMMC FAILURE). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN MY HOME GARAGE, THE MEDIA CENTER UNIT(MCU) SCREEN FLICKERED AND WENT BLACK. THE SCREEN HAS NOT TURNED BACK ON, WHICH IS PREVENTING FROM USING MY BACK UP CAMERA.
THE MCU HAS A BLACK SCREEN A MONTH AGO. WHICH CAUSE ALMOST ALL CAR FUNCTIONS USELESS. SOME SAFETY FUNCTIONS SUCH AS TURN SIGNALS, AND BACKUP-CAMERA ARE NOT WORKING. CAR IS DRIVABLE BUT IT IS NOT SAFE WITHOUT STATED FUNCTIONS. CHARGING TAKES A VERY LONG TIME.

TESLA MODEL 2015 MODEL S MCU KEEPS FAILING. THE MCU FAILED TWICE IN 1 YEAR. TESLA SERVICE CENTER SCHEDULES AN APPOINTMENT, SIMPLY RESETS THE SYSTEM AND SENDS YOU BACK HOME. BEFORE FAILING , THE SYSTEM SHOWS SIGNS OF SLOWNESS LIKE DELAYED START ( NOTE* CAR CAN STILL DRIVE WITHOUT STARTING AN MCU BUT MULTIPLE THINGS SUCH AS HVAC / BACKUP CAMERA WONT WORK )
THE MAIN VEHICLE SCREEN STOPPED WORKING. COMPLETE LOSS OF REAR CAMERA IMAGE DISPLAY WHEN REVERSE GEAR IS SELECTED, RESULTING IN REDUCED REAR VISIBILITY WHEN BACKING. NO CONTROL OVER BATTERY CHARGING COMMANDS. MANY TIMES WHEN I PLACE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE THE CAMERA WOULD NOT DISPLAY A REAR IMAGE. NOW MY SCREEN IS COMPLETELY BLACK AND NONREPONSIVE
TESLA MCU1 EMMC FAILURE. MY MCU WENT OUT IN JULY. THE TESLA BURBANK SERVICE CENTER KNEW THIS, EVEN HAD THE MCU ON ORDER, BUT ONCE I TOOK MY CAR IN, SAID A FACTORY RESET WAS ALL I NEEDED. A MONTH LATER, PROBLEMS HAPPENED AGAIN. BLANK TOUCHSCREEN, BLINKERS DON'T WORK, AND AC GOES OFF AND ON - IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEATWAVE!!! I TRIED CALLED THE BURBANK SERVICE CENTER, LEFT A MESSAGE, OF COURSE NO ONE CALLED BACK. I SET UP ANOTHER APPOINTMENT THE ONLY WAY TESLA ALLOWS, ON THE APP, NO WAY TO TALK TO A HUMAN. THEY SAID A MOBILE TECH WOULD COME TO MY HOUSE IN A BOUT A WEEK. (BASED ON WHAT BURBANK SC TOLD ME, I KNEW A MOBILE TECH COULDN'T FIX THIS; BUT THE APP DIDN'T ALLOW ME TO SPECIFY THIS). THE DAY BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT, THEY FINALLY READ MY NOTES. SHOCKER, IT ISN'T SOMETHING A MOBILE TECH CAN FIX. SO COME TO VAN NUYS SERVICE CENTER, A WEEK AWAY, ON 9/1/20. NOW (08/27/20) I'M BEING TOLD, VIA TEXT THAT NO ONE RESPONDS TO, THAT IT'S BEEN DELAYED TO 9/8/20. MEANWHILE I'M HAVING TO DRIVE A CAR THAT ISN'T SAFE, ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEATWAVE WITHOUT WORKING/DEPENDABLE AC.
THE CENTER SCREEN OF MY TESLA STOPPED WORKING WHEN I STARTED THE CAR ONE DAY (CAR WAS PARKED), RESULTING IN A LOSS OF THE BACKUP CAMERA AND ACCESS TO MANY DRIVER SETTINGS, SUCH AS REGENERATIVE BRAKING, AUTOMATIC LIGHTS, ETC. REBOOTING THE UNIT DID NOT HELP, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF ONCE THE ISSUE OCCURRED.
THE TESLA MEDIA CONTROL UNIT COMPLETELY FAILED ON 7/5/20 AFTER BEING UNABLE TO TURN BACK ON. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WAS PARKED ON THE STREET. DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT, THE SYSTEMS SUCH AS THE AIR CONDITIONING, BACKUP CAMERA, CONTROLS, ETC WERE UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED WHICH POSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD.
2015 MODEL S P85D WITH FAILED MCU (MEDIA CONTROL UNIT) SINCE BEGINNING OF JULY. TESLA STILL DOES NOT HAVE A PART TO REPAIR MY CAR. A TEMPORARY FIX IN AUGUST ONLY LASTED AROUND 4 WEEKS AND COMPLETELY FAILED AGAIN. WHEN MCU FAILS, ALL SAFETY FEATURES ARE NOT AVAILABLE. NO BACKUP CAMERA. NO TURN SIGNAL. NO CONTROL ON HEADLIGHT SO IF IT RAINS DURING THE DAY I CAN'T MAUALLY TURN HEADLIGHT ON EITHER. BASICALLY JUST A CAR THAT MOVES AND STOPS WITHOUT ANY OTHER FUNCTION. TESLA IS NOT TAKING THE PROBLEM SERIOUSLY AND WAITING NEARLY 1/2 A YEAR AND STILL NO PARTS AVAILABLE IS UNACCEPTABLE. TESLA OBVIOUSLY HAVE PARTS AVAILABLE TO MAKE NEW CARS AND ARE IGNORING CUSTOMER WHO ACTUALLY HELPED A NEW CAR COMPANY TO THRIVE. PLEASE FORCE TESLA TO TAKE THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY AND

I WENT TO TESLA SERVICE CENTER ON 6/26/2020, NOTIFY THEM THE PROBLEM FOR SLOW RESPONSE ON THE TOUCHSCREEN AND ALSO RATTLE SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AREA, TESLA STATED THE STEERING BUTTONS NEED TO BE REPLACE AND THE TOUCHSCREEN IS DUE TO THE OLDER CHIP ON THE MODEL, SO IT'S NORMAL. I PICKED UP THE CAR TWO DAYS AFTER AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, ON 7/4/2020 WHILE I M CHARGING AT THE TESLA SUPER CHARGE STATION THE CAR SCREEN IS COMPLETE DEAD, I CAN'T PLAY RADIO, NO NAVIGATION, SIGNAL LIGHTS NOT WORKING AND BACK UP CAMERAS FAILED ETC. I WENT ON RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS LIKE THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN NOW WITH NHTSA AND IS INVESTIGATING. TODAY TESLA SAID MY MCU NEEDS TO BE REPLACE.
THE MAIN SCREEN, MCU, ON MY TESLA MODEL S, 2015 70D BEGAN REBOOTING DURING DRIVING. ON SATURDAY, JULY 4TH, 2020, THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. TESLA CUSTOMER SERVICE COACHED ME ON GETTING THE CAR TO WORK WITHOUT THE MAIN SCREEN, HOWEVER IT IS NOT SAFE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS, SIGNAL LIGHTS, REAR CAMERA DO NOT WORK, VERIFIED BY MY SPOUSE. FURTHER, MOST OF THE OTHER CONTROLS, E.G. DE-FOG, AIR CONDITIONING, ROOF, ETC, DO NOT WORK. THE RE-BOOTING OF THE SCREEN, WHERE IT WOULD BLANK OUT WITHOUT WARNING, AND EVENTUALLY COME BACK LATER, OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION -- VERY DISTRACTING. AT THIS POINT, THE MAIN DISPLAY, OR MCU, IS "BRICKED" -- IT WON'T DISPLAY ANYTHING AT ALL, SO THAT HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND LOCKED. WHEN I UNLOCKED THE CAR AND OPENED THE DOOR, THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN ON THE TESLA WILL NOT BOOT UP. AS A RESULT, THE SIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS WILL NOT UNFOLD AND THE REAR VIEW CAMERA CANNOT BE VIEWED. IN ADDITION, THE CLIMATE CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. I ATTEMPTED TO REBOOT THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM SEVERAL TIMES AND LOCKED & UNLOCKED THE CAR, BUT THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN DID NOT TURN ON AND THE SIDE MIRRORS WILL NOT UNFOLD.
WHILE DRIVING TO PICK UP MY NIECE FROM SCHOOL, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKES COMPLETELY LOCKED. I LMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT, IF IT WEREN'T FOR ME DRIVING OFF THE ROAD AND FINALLY COMING TO A STOP BECAUSE OF THE SAND. SCARY SCARY SCARY!!!! AFTER IT CAME TO A STOP ALL THE LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD CAME ON. TOWED IT TO TOYOTA SERVICE THEY'RE SAYING IT'S THE BRAKE ACTUATOR I'VE BEEN DOING MY RESEARCH AND IT JUST HAPPENS LAST YEAR OVER MORE THAN 1.1 MILLION TOYOTA'S WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.
CARS MAIN SCREEN WENT OUT, WHILE DRIVING ON AUTOPILOT AS THE SCREEN WENT BLACK ALL OF THE SENSORS DIDN'T WORK AND CAR WAS ACCELERATING WITHOUT CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER VEHICLES. TURN SIGNALS DIDN'T WORK AND AC WENT OUT. NOW TESLA EXPECTS ME TO PAY 2500 FOR THEIR MANUFACTURING FLAW. THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THEIR DESIGN FLAWS AND IT SEEMS THAT EVERY MODEL S EITHER HAD MCU ISSUES .
THE CENTER SCREEN (MCU) HAS GLUE RUNNING INSIDE THE SCREEN OF THE ENTIRE UNIT AND THEN LEAKING OUT THE BOTTOM. THE SCREEN NOW ALSO TURN OFF (REBOOTS) AT DIFFERENT TIME WHILE DRIVING THUS INCAPACITATING THE REVIEW CAMERA, AIR CONDITIONING AND OTHER FUNCTIONS FOR UP TO 5-8 MINUTES WHILE SYSTEM REBOOTS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE STATIONARY AND IN MOTION..
ON 7/2/20, CENTER CONSOLE STOPPED WORKING WHEN STARTED UP. THIS AFFECTS/CONTROLS CLIMATE CONTROL, BACK UP CAMERA, BLINKERS, AND MAPS. CAR IS ABLE TO DRIVE, BRAKE, AND STEER. INABILITY TO USE BLINKERS IS HAZARDOUS. I BELIEVE IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE MCU CHIP. MANY TESLAS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS CHIP 4-5 YEARS INTO OWNERSHIP. SERVICE CENTER STATES THERE IS A LONG BACK ORDER, ESSENTIALLY MAKING IT SO THAT THE BEST-CASE SCENARIO IS I AM WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 8 WEEKS AS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
THE MCU FAILED WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING, WHICH BASICALLY LOCKED THE CLIMATE CONTROL, ACCESS TO SUSPENSION, SPEED CONTROL, AUTOPILOT, NAVIGATION, RADIO, TURN SIGNALS, AND BACK UP CAMERA.

LOSS OF TURN SIGNAL NOISE, HEADLIGHT CONTROL, REARVIEW CAMERA, CLIMATE CONTROL, SEAT MEMORY, GARAGE DOOR OPENING CAPABILITY, NAVIGATION, EMERGENCY BRAKING, AND DIFFICULTY CHARGING THE CAR. THIS OCCURRED GRADUALLY OVER THE COURSE OF A COUPLE OF DAYS AND HAS LEFT THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE WITHOUT HEADLIGHT CONTROL, AUDITORY WARNINGS, AND REARVIEW CAMERA. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAILED EMMC CHIP ON THE MCU IN THE CAR. IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AND NOT COVERED OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY, DESPITE IT BEING GUARANTEED TO FAIL SOMETIME BETWEEN 4 YEARS AND 5 YEARS OF AGE. (WARRANTY UP AFTER 4)

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FAILED CAUSING THE TURN SIGNALS AND THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM TO NOT OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (TESLA 10250 SANTA MONICA BLVD STE 1340, LOS ANGELES, CA 90067 (310) 553-5767). THE DEALER AFTER A MONTH TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND PERFORMED A SOFTWARE FIX ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE MCU UNIT AS THEY ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE HOWEVER RECURRED WITH THE TURN SIGNALS STILL FLASHING ON AND OFF AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INCLUDING THE NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM ALSO NOT WORKING CONSISTENTLY. THE CONTACT HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT ONLINE WITH THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.*DT *JS
MCU ON TESLA CRASHED AGAIN. LAST YEAR IT WAS REPLACED, AND THIS YEAR CRASHED AGAIN. TESLA KEEPS POSTPONING REPAIR. SAYING THEY ARE TOO BUSY. WITH THE MCU CRASHED, TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK AND MAKES CAR NOT DRIVEABLE. I UNDERSTAND YOU ALL ARE INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE? THE DATE IDENTIFIED BELOW IS THE SECOND TIME. THIS HAPPENED LAST YEAR AS WELL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TESLA LOCATED AT 8500 TYCO RD, VIENNA, VA 2218, (703) 761-4679, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MCU FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE MCU REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,132.
THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT IN MY 2015 MODEL S TESLA STOPPED WORKING AND WENT BLANK. I FIRST HAD NO MUSIC CONNECTIVITY, THEN THE TURN SIGNALS AND GARAGE DOOR OPENER WOULD NOT WORK. SINCE THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT CONTROLS EVERYTHING, I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR.
THE TOUCHSCREEN ON MY CAR HAS PERMANENTLY TURNED BLACK THEREFORE I HAVE LOST THE REAR CAMERA IMAGE DISPLAY WHEN REVERSE GEAR IS SELECTED. AS A RESULT, I ALMOST RAN INTO A SHOPPING CART WHILE I WAS BACKING UP YESTERDAY. WHAT IS FRIGHTENING IS THAT NEXT TIME, IT COULD BE A SMALL CHILD THAT I DON'T SEE AND RUN OVER. THE FAILED TOUCHSCREEN ALSO MEANS I NO LONGER HAVE FAN OR AIR CONDITIONING WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH MY WINDOWS DOWN, EVEN WHEN ON A HIGHWAY. IN THIS TIME OF COVID, I WAS TERRIFIED WHEN A HOMELESS MAN PUT HIS HEAD THROUGH MY WINDOW TO ASK FOR MONEY WHILE POSSIBLY CONTAMINATING ME WITH A VIRUS YESTERDAY. IT JUST IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AROUND WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN IN SOME NEIGHBORHOODS. ALSO THERE ARE DAYS IN THE BAY AREA WHEN THERE IS A HIGH POLLUTION INDEX, I DO NOT WISH TO BREATHE UNFILTERED AIR BECAUSE I HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOW BECAUSE THE FAN CANNOT BE TURNED ON. ACCORDING TO THE TESLA REPAIR SHOP, THE FAILED TOUCHSCREEN IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE OLDER MODEL S THAT REQUIRES OWNERS TO SHELL OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE AN MCU THAT HAS FAILED PREMATURELY. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MCU REPLACEMENT AND THAT THERE SHOULD BE A PRODUCT RECALL.

THE INFOTAINMENT COMPUTER MCU1 IS KNOWN TO FAIL PREMATURELY DUE TO SOFTWARE ISSUES CAUSED AND NOT FIXED IN A TIMELY MANNER BY TESLA. BASICALLY THE LIMITED WRITE CYCLES OF FLASH MEMORY ARE EXHAUSTED DUE TO EXCESSIVE LOGGING UP TO A CERTAIN SOFTWARE VERSION. MY CAR SHOWS THE EARLY WARNING SIGNS INCLUDING BLACK SCREENS ON ENTERING (CAR IS NOT MOVABLE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES) AND REBOOTS DURING DRIVING. FULL MCU FAILURE IS KNOWN TO CAUSE INDICATOR LIGHTS TO FAIL, AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING TO NOT ENGAGE, DISABLED FAST CHARGING AND NO ACCURATE CHARGE INDICATOR (SO RISK OF GETTING STRANDED), HEATING/VENTILATION STUCK TO MOST RECENT SETTING (NO DEFROST), AUDIO FRAGMENTS BEING STUCK ON ARBITRARY VOLUME, AIR SUSPENSION IS STUCK TO POSSIBLY UNSUITABLE SETTINGS AND THE SPEEDOMETER IS REVERTING TO MPH INSTEAD OF KM/H WITHOUT NOTIFICATION. IF PIN TO DRIVE IS USED, THE CAR CAN NO LONGER BE UNLOCKED AND MOVED. TESLA DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND CHARGES FOR FULL REPAIR COST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY / DRAGS CASES OF IMPENDING MCU FAILURE UNTIL THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. MCU1 CAN BE REPLACED WITH MCU2 ACCORDING TO A TESLA INFOTAINMENT WEBSITE; HOWEVER ONLY MCU1 REPLACEMENTS FOR THE OLDEST CARS (AP1 SENSOR LEVEL) ARE AVAILABLE TO DATE DESPITE ANNOUNCEMENT THESE WOULD BE READY IN APRIL 2020. NEWER CARS WITH LONGER REMAINING LIFE CAN BE UPGRADED UPON INVITATION BY TESLA.
