LIVES ARE AT RISK ALL OVER THE WORLD AND TESLA HAS BEEN SLOW TO COME FORWARD WITH REPORTS OF CRASHES. PLEASE STOP THIS EXPERIMENT IMMEDIATELY.
THIS IS YET ANOTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT THE AUTOPILOT. PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO IN FULL. IT SHOWS HOW AN INTELLIGENT AND WELL EDUCATED DRIVER CHOOSES TO USE THE AUTOPILOT WITHOUT HAVING ANY IDEA THAT HE IS PLACING HIS OWN LIFE AND THAT OF OTHER ROAD USERS IN EXTREME DANGER. HE THINKS HE WILL HAVE TIME TO TAKE OVER CONTROL IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG. HE PASSES INCHES AWAY FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON UNDIVIDED ROADS WITH A COMBINED SPEED OF GREATER THAN 200 KM/H. EVEN AFTER THE RECENT FATAL ACCIDENT CAUSED BY AUTOPILOT OWNERS HAVE BEEN TOLD BY ELON MUSK THAT AUTOPILOT IS SAFER THAN HUMAN DRIVERS. THIS IS SIMPLY UNTRUE. OTHER ROAD USERS DID NOT GIVE PERMISSION FOR THEIR LIVES TO BE PLACED AT RISK BY A THREE TON CAR BEING DRIVEN TOWARDS THEM HANDS FREE. THE DRIVER IN THIS VIDEO IS NOT TO BE BLAMED FOR BELIEVING THAT IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE IN THIS FASHION. TESLA IS TO BLAME FOR EXAGGERATING THE CAPABILITIES AND THE SAFETY OF THE AUTOPILOT. THIS AUTOPILOT HAS BEEN RELEASED ALL OVER THE WORLD. IT IS CONSTANTLY BEING ALTERED BY SOFTWARE UPDATES. NONE OF THE CARS THAT HAVE HAD AUTOPILOT ENABLED OVER THE AIR HAVE BEEN PUT THROUGH TESTING TO ENSURE THAT ALL SENSORS AND OTHER HARDWARE IS WORKING CORRECTLY. PLEASE STOP THIS EXPERIMENT BEFORE MORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED.
THIS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TESLA AUTOPILOT. THIS VIDEO HAS JUST BEEN UPLOADED. THE IRRESPONSIBLE MARKETING AND PROMOTION OF THE TESLA AUTOPILOT HAS ENCOURAGED THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR. WHILST AN INQUIRY INTO THE AUTOPILOT IS STILL IN PROGRESS TESLA IS PLANNING TO ROLL OUT YET ANOTHER VERSION BETA RELEASE. I BELIEVE THAT IS ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO SHIFT THE GOAL-POSTS AND SIDESTEP THE INQUIRY. THE PRUDENT THING WOULD BE TO DISABLE THE AUTOPILOT UNTIL IT IS PROVEN TO BE SAFE.
THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FIRE ISSUE ON TESLA CARS. THERE HAS BEEN A RECENT FIRE IN FRANCE HTTP://ARSTECHNICA.COM/CARS/2016/08/TESLA-MODEL-S-FRANCE-BATTERY-FIRE/ THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN TWO BURNED OUT TESLA THAT HAVE SHOWN UP IN THE SALVAGE YARDS (PHOTOS ATTACHED). THE TESLA IN THE INCIDENT IN FRANCE LOOKS VERY LOW TO THE GROUND AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE ORIGINAL INQUIRY INTO TESLA FIRES WAS CONCLUDED WHEN TESLA ADVISED THAT THE RIDE HEIGHT WAS RAISED FOR SAFETY AND A TITANIUM SAFETY SHIELD WAS FITTED. THE RIDE HEIGHT ONLY REMAINED HIGH FOR A FEW MONTHS AND WAS THEN DROPPED ONCE MORE. THE TITANIUM SHIELD DOES LITTLE TO PROTECT THE BATTERY IN CASES OF SUSPENSION COLLAPSE. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE VIDEOS OF THE TITANIUM SHIELD PULVERIZING A CONCRETE BLOCK AND A CAR ALTERNATOR ARE FAKED. ON IH90 BETWEEN GILLETTE WY AND BILLINGS MT ON AUG 8, 2016 I WAS DRIVING AT 75 MPH WITH AUTOSTEER ENGAGED. THE DAY WAS CLEAR, IT WAS ABOUT 9AM, AND THE ROAD LANES WERE CLEARLY MARKED. AS I WAS GOING AROUND A MODERATE CURVE (NO SPEED REDUCTION SUGGESTED) IN THE RIGHT LANE, THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED TOWARD THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I HAD MY HAND ON THE WHEEL, BUT THE RIGHT TWO WHEELS WENT PAST THE RUMBLE STRIP AND ONTO THE SHOULDER BEFORE I COULD BRING THE CAR BACK ONTO THE ROAD, DISENGAGING AUTOSTEER. IF AUTOSTEER HAD CONTINUED THE CONTROL THE CAR, I AM CERTAIN WE WOULD HAVE LEFT THE ROAD AT HIGH SPEED AND CRASHED THE CAR. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO CRASH, AND WE CONTINUED ON OUR JOURNEY. I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO TESLA AT THE TIME IT OCCURRED. AT THE TIME WE WERE ON A 26 DAY ROAD TRIP ACROSS COUNTRY. I HAD PREVIOUSLY NOTED THAT AUTOSTEER HAD TRIED TO VEER THE CAR TO THE RIGHT, BUT NOT AS AGGRESSIVELY AS THIS INCIDENT. EACH TIME IT OCCURRED, HOWEVER, I HAD TO DISENGAGE AUTOSTEER AND TAKE BACK CONTROL OF THE CAR.

THERE DO NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY HOLD STEERING WHEEL NAGS. A LARGE NUMBER OF OWNERS HAVE GAINED THE PERCEPTION THAT THIS IS A TRUE FAIL-SAFE AUTOPILOT RATHER THAN A BETA RELEASE. PLEASE HALT THIS OUT OF CONTROL EXPERIMENT BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST.
ONE AUGUST 1, APPROX. 8AM WHILE DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON THE VETERANS EXPRESSWAY WITHOUT ANY OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. I WAS ON AUTOPILOT GOING EXACTLY THE SPEED LIMIT AND MY MODEL S SUDDENLY GAVE ME AN ALERT, SHOWED A RED FLASHING CAR TOUCHING THE FRONT OF MY CAR IN THE DISPLAY, AND SLAMMED ON THE BREAKS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I RECOVERED AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TESLA WHO RESPONDED THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" AND NO FAULTS WERE DETECTED.

HERE IS A MODEL S FRESHLY ARRIVED IN THE JUNKYARD. IT HAS DONE JUST 210 MILES AND THE FRONT WHEEL AND SUSPENSION HAS SIMPLY SNAPPED OFF. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY ZERO CRASH DAMAGE. THE WHEEL IS GOUGED AND THE TIRE IS PEELED OFF SHOWING THAT THE WHEEL WAS STILL ROLLING FORWARD WHEN THE WHEEL SNAPPED OFF. THE FRACTURED COMPONENTS ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE IN THE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPH. THIS CAN NOT POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A COLLISION BUT IS SIMPLY THE RESULT OF A WEAKNESS IN THE TESLA SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. THIS DEFECT IS PUTTING MANY LIVES IN DANGER PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AS A MATTER OF URGENCY.

IT SEEMS THAT THESE CARS CAN NOT BE DRIVEN HARD WITHOUT THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS FALLING APART.
WHILE ACCELERATING AT A FREEWAY ON-RAMP FROM A STAND STILL, THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE SNAPPED OFF AT FULL THROTTLE. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY SAFELY BY PRESSING ON THE REMAINING PEDDLE WITH HAND.

THE TESLA STEERING KNUCKLE IS THE MK 2 VERSION WHICH USES A WEBBED H SECTION RATHER THAN THE HOLLOW CASTING USED ON EARLIER VERSIONS. THE SYSTEM JUST DOESN'T WORK IF IT DOES NOT REQUIRE HANDS ON THE WHEEL AND CAN SUDDENLY THROW YOU INTO THE NEXT LANE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PASSENGERS WERE QUITE ALARMED. MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST EXPLAIN TO THEM ABOUT "BETA" AND THAT IF THEY WERE TO BE MAIMED IN A CRASH IT'S OKAY BECAUSE THE SYSTEM IS "BETA" AND ITS' NEURAL NETWORK NEEDS TO LEARN SOME NEW TECHNIQUES.
ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 13, 2016, MY MINOR SON WAS DRIVING MY TESLA (VIN [XXX]) NORTHBOUND ON ROUND HILL ROAD IN GREENWICH, CONNECTICUT, WITH THE AUTOPILOT ENGAGED. AT APPROXIMATELY 3:50PM, THE TESLA APPROACHED A VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED PARTIALLY ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND PARTIALLY ON THE ROAD IN FRONT OF 273 ROUND HILL ROAD. THE VEHICLE OBSCURED THE WHITE LINE ALONG THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD. RATHER THAN MOVING TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE PARKED VEHICLE, THE TESLA CONTINUED ON THE SAME PATH. AT THE LAST MOMENT MY SON GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL AND MOVED THE TESLA TO THE LEFT, BUT NOT SOON ENOUGH/FAR ENOUGH. THE TESLA'S RIGHT SIDE COLLIDED WITH THE PARKED VEHICLE'S LEFT SIDE. MY SON BELIEVES THAT HAD HE NOT GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL, THE RIGHT FRONT AREA OF THE TESLA WOULD HAVE HIT THE REAR OF THE PARKED VEHICLE. TO THE BEST OF HIS KNOWLEDGE THE BRAKES ON THE TESLA DID NOT ENGAGE. NO ONE WAS HURT. THE POLICE WERE NOT CALLED. ROUND HILL ROAD IS NOT A DIVIDED HIGHWAY, HOWEVER IT IS A WIDE, TWO LANE ROAD WITH FRESHLY PAINTED DOUBLE YELLOW LINES DOWN THE MIDDLE AND A FRESHLY PAINTED WHITE LINE ON THE EDGE. THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT SEIZED BRAKE CALIPERS ON THE MODEL S AND THE FAILURE OF TESLA SERVICE TO DETECT OR REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM ON TESLAS CAUSED BY ROAD DIRT THROWN ONTO THE INSIDE OF THE BRAKE ROTORS. HERE IS ONE OF MANY THREADS DISCUSSING THE PROBLEM. CALIPERS WORK MUCH BETTER WHEN THEY PINCH THE DISC FROM BOTH SIDES, RATHER THAN "LEAN ONE PAD AGAINST ONE SIDE". HEATING UP THE ROTOR ON ONE SIDE ONLY... THAT WILL PROBABLY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO REAL WARP. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR PROBABLY A YEAR WITH LESS THAN 50% BRAKING POWER AVAILABLE. HERE'S THE THING... MY CAR PASSED ITS ANNUAL SERVICE WHILE THE PADS WERE FROZEN! THE CAR WAS DRIVEN AND GOT A CHECK FOR BRAKES. IT'S THE KIND OF PROBLEM YOU DON'T NOTICE UNLESS YOU'RE DRIVING FAST AND NEED TO BRAKE HARD ON A HIWAY. SO THE CITY TEST TESLA DOES, WON'T NECESSARILY CATCH THIS PROBLEM. A VISUAL INSPECTION CANNOT BE MADE RELIABLY ENOUGH TO SEE FROZEN INSIDE PADS. YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE CALIPERS OFF AND THEN IT BECOMES PRETTY APPARENT. SHE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND BEFORE APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR SURGED FORWARD AGGRESSIVELY. SINCE HER FOOT NEVER TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR SHE WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND STOP WITHIN 8-10 FEET. SHE WAS VISIBLY SHAKEN WHEN SHE GOT HOME BUT, REGRETTABLY, NO REPORT WAS FILED.
