THE DASHBOARD ON MY 07 TOYOTA AVALON HAS BECOME STICKY, ALL CRACKED UP AND EMITTES A STICKY CHEMICAL THAT CREATES A BLINDING GLARE DURING DAYTIME HRS. ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS SUNNY OUTSIDE! I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE CAR HE SAID THAT HIS DEALERSHIP WOULD SPLIT THE COST WITH ME OF ABOUT $800 EACH TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD. HE SAID THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOLEDGE THAT THE SUBCONTRACT THAT MADE THE DASHBOARDS USED A FAULTY MATERIAL AND SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I BOUGHT THE TOP OF THE LINE AVALON WITH ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES NEW, GARAGE KEPT IT, WASHED AND WAXED IT MYSELF AND NOW THIS. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT TOYOTA WAS A RELIABLE COMPANY AND WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS, BUT FOUND OUT JUST THE OPPOSITE. NOT ONLY THE AVALON BUT THE CAMRY, COROLLA AND THE LEXUS 350 WHICH IS MADE BY TOYOTA. I HAVE SEARCHED THE WEB EXTENSIVELY AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO 'ONE' ANSWER. SOME DEALERS ARE REPLACING THE DASH, SOME ARE OFFERING TO COVER MATERIALS AND SOME ONLY OFFERING 20% DISCOUNTS. CAN YOU CONTACT ME OR REFER ME TO THE PROPER DEPARTMENT TO SUBMIT A CLAIM FOR A REPLACEMENT. AS THIS IS CLEARLY A TOYOTA 'PRODUCT RELATED' PROBLEM, I WOULD EXPECT THAT TOYOTA WOULD HAVE A RESOLUTION TO FIX/REPLACE THE DASH AS NEEDED! SINCE I'M RETIRED AND ON A FIXED INCOME, PAYING OUT OF POCKET FOR TOYOTAS FAULTY, DANGEROUS MATERIAL IS NOT AN OPTION, I'LL MAKE SURE THAT ANYONE THAT I KNOW, AND WITH ALL THE ASSOCIATIONS THAT I BELONG TO THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE, KNOW THAT TOYOTA HAS DROPPED THE BALL ON THIS ONE! THIS HAS BECOME A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD WITH ALL THE GLARE THAT IT'S CAUSING. TOYOTA HAD BETTER HOPE THAT NEITHER MY WIFE OR I HAVE A SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT DUE TO THEIR MISHANDELING OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND TURNING A DEAF EAR TO THE LOYAL TOYOTA OWNERS! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED A WHITE POWDER RESIDUE EMITTED THROUGHOUT THE AIR VENTS UPON ACTIVATING THE DEFROSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS DUE TO THE DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN OF THE HEALTH RELATED ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAKE CALIPER OF MY 3.5 YEARS OLD TOYOTA AVALON FALL-OFF YESTERDAY AFTERNOON (JUNE 8TH, 2011). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,000. UPDATED 03/05/12*LJ UPDATED 03/08/12
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE, AS I LIFTED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO BEGIN BRAKING, MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON, WHICH HAD ALREADY HAD THE RECALL FIX PERFORMED LAST YEAR, SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND LEAPT FORWARD RUNNING INTO THE BUILDING WALL THAT WAS ABOUT 5 FEET IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SLOT. THE CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP, AT WHICH TIME MY FOOT WAS CLEARLY ON THE BRAKE. I JUST SAT STILL FOR A FEW MINUTES, SORT OF IN A SLIGHT SHOCK OF WONDERING "WHAT THE H... JUST HAPPENED?" MY LEFT KNEE, ELBOW AND RIGHT SHOULDER IMMEDIATELY BECAME PAINFUL, BUT NOTHING SEEMED TOO BAD SO I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACKED AWAY FROM THE WALL INTO THE PROPER POSITION IN THE PARKING SLOT. THE CAR APPEARED TO RUN OKAY, I RAN THROUGH ALL THE GEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS, CHECKED THE BRAKES, THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND GOT OUT. I WAS EXPECTING TO FIND SERIOUS FRONT END DAMAGE, BUT THE ONLY THING BESIDES PAINT SCRATCHES WAS A BENT LICENSE PLATE FRAME. I CHECKED FOR LEAKS UNDER THE HOOD, AND FINDING NOTHING APPEARING DAMAGED THERE I DROVE SLOWLY HOME,(ABOUT 5 MILES). TWICE I FELT A SLIGHT SHUTTER WHEN MOVING MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR TO BRAKE WHEN PREPARING TO STOP. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY; HE FELT THE SAME "SHUTTER" ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP(20 MILES). THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG, ANY EVIDENCE OF AN INCIDENT IN THE SENSORS AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPT. ASST. MANAGER THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. SO, BASICALLY, TOYOTA SAYS I HAVE TO HAVE A MAJOR ACCIDENT BEFORE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.I AM NOT APPARENTLY SERIOUSLY INJURED AT THIS TIME, BUT THE PAST 3 DAYS I'VE BEEN VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND I'VE GONE THROUGH DANGEROUS AMOUNTS OF TYLENOL. WE'LL SEE WHAT THE NEXT FEW DAYS BRINGS. I HAVE A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT NEXT WEEK FOR A REGULAR CHECKUP JUST IN CASE. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN. 2011: I NOTICED THE DASH FELT SOFT, NOT STICKY EXACTLY, BUT FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, PLIABLE. 2013: WHILE DRIVING ON VACATION I REALIZED MY VISIBILITY WAS TREMENDOUSLY IMPEDED BY THE INCREDIBLY OPAQUE GLARE IN MY WINDSHIELD FROM THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS SO BAD, I REALIZED I COULD MAKE OUT THE PATTERNED IMPRINT (DESIGNED TO RESEMBLE LEATHER GRAIN). THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REDUCE THIS GLARE AS LONG AS THE SUN IS OUT. IT SERIOUSLY IMPAIRS MY ABILITY TO SEE CLEARLY, IS OBVIOUSLY DISTRACTING, AND ADDED TO MY FATIGUE ON THE TRIP. A SAFETY ISSUE IF THERE EVER WAS ONE CAUSING DRIVER IMPAIRMENT DUE TO EYE STRAIN ADDING TO DRIVER FATIGUE. 2015: I NOTICED MY FIRST CRACK IN THE DASH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE AIRBAG. WITHIN A MONTH, I FOUND ANOTHER CRACK IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH. THIS IS A GARAGE KEPT SECOND CAR, USED FOR LONG TRIP COMFORT AND SUNDAY DRIVES. 2016: CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT PROGRESSING CRACKS IN DASH. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL BUT IT HAD ENDED 2 MONTHS EARLIER. SORRY BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. 2020: I AM WAITING FOR PIECES OF MY DASH TO FALL OFF. MY LATEST CRACK FOLLOWS THE INSTRUMENT COCKPIT TOP EDGE COMPLETELY ACROSS TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR CURVE. IT JUST SPLIT APART. THIS IS MY BABIED AND PROTECTED CAR, 2007 AVALON XLS WITH 64,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE OWNED TOYOTAS SINCE THE EARLY 80'S; COROLLA, TERCEL, CELICA, CAMRY, RAV4, AVALON. NOT ONE OF THEM EVER HAD A DASH PROBLEM. IN LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS HERE THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE ABOUT THE DASH. TOYOTA SHOULD STEP UP. WHO GETS TO DECIDE THAT ONE SAFETY ISSUE IS WORTH A RECALL BUT ANOTHER ISN'T? THE GLARE IS SO BAD THAT, MORE THAN ONCE, I HAVE BEEN NERVOUS ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE BRAKE LIGHTS WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. IS IT FAIR THAT THE ONLY SAFE WAY TO OPERATE MY TOYOTA IS ON A CLOUDY DAY OR AT NIGHT? I HOPE EVENTUALLY ENOUGH COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS WILL HELP.
TL*THE DRIVER OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THE POLICE ARRIVED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED; YET, THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT FACILITY IT WAS TOWED TO. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. SOMEONE INSIDE THE BUILDING WAS ALSO INJURED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE VEHICLE HAD SINCE SURGED FORWARD ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. DURING ONE OF THE FAILURES THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 69 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, AND ACCELERATED TO A SPEED OF 80 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,800.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW CAME WITH A SUN SHADE THAT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY COME DOWN OR GO UP WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. SHE STATED THAT THE SHADE WOULD NOT COME DOWN WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AND WHEN THE SUN WOULD SET, THE SHADE WOULD CAUSE LIMITED VISIBILITY THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THEY COULD NOT ASSIST ANY FURTHER THAN ADVISING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ENGINE LIGHT ON CAR HAVING ENGINE TROUBLE POWER DOES NOT STAY EVEN,SOMETIMES STALLS OUT, TOOK BACK TOFOR SERVICE DUE TO ENGINE PRBLEMS, TUNE UP PERFORMED , AND COIL PACK HAD TO BE REPLACED ON A PREVIOUS SERVICE IN 2008 COIL PACK FOR CYLINDER 6 WAS REPLACED. REPAIR SHOP DID NOT LIST WHICH CYLINDER. BUT COIL PACK WAS REPLACED. *TR
SERVICE ENGINE AND MANY OTHER TROUBLE INDICATORS AT THE SAME TIME. TROUBLE FOUND FOR $80.00 LOOSE GAS CAP. DAY'S LATTER FOUND GAS CAP STRAP MISSING. RETURN TO DEALER WHO SAID THE STRAP IS WHAT CAUSE THE POOR SEAL SO THE TECH REMOVED IT (AS THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME). ASK TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT STRAP - NOT AVAILABLE. PURCHASED NEW GAS CAP WHICH COMES WITH STRAP (A 2 CENT ITEM) COST $25.00.TOTAL COST FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM $100. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THE LITTLE PROBLEM FOR MOST OR ALL OF ITS VEHICLE AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT IT. IT IS A MONEY MAKER FOR THE DEALERS WHO NEVER SUGGEST LOOKING AT YOU GAS CAP. THEY CONNECT IT TO ANALYZER FOR $80.00. REMOVE THE STRAP AND SEND YOU ON YOUR WAY. SHAME SHAME SHAME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE STEERING WHEEL TELESCOPIC RELEASE LEVER LOCK HAD A LOOSE BOLT CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO DROP IN HIS LAP WHILE DRIVING. THE LEVER LOCK WAS NOT SECURE ENOUGH TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER NOR WAS THE MANUFACTURER CALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 63,138. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. A PASSENGER HAD TO REACH DOWN AND PULL THE PEDAL BACK INTO POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
IN MY OPINION AND BASED ON MY RECENT INTERACTION WITH TOYOTA, THEY ARE NOT BEING HONEST ABOUT THEIR SAFETY ISSUES WITH PUBLIC. TWO WEEKS AGO, I TOOK MY TOYOTA AVALON 2007 WITH ONLY 33452 MILES TO BOB SMITH TOYOTA BECAUSE BREAK FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT FROM BREAK MASTER CYLINDER. THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND MASTER CYLINDER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I LEFT THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND NOTICE THAT TOYOTA HAS A RECALL FOR 2005 AND 2006 AVALON FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUES HTTP://WWW.TOYOTA.COM/RECALL/AVALON-HIGHLANDER.HTML. FURTHER RESEARCH AND BASED ON DATA FROM DEALERSHIP, TOYOTA AVALON MADE PRIOR TO 7/2007, USE THE SAME BREAK MASTER CYLINDER AS THE ONES BEING RECALLED, PART #ID # 47028-0710. WHEN I ASKED TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT THIS, THEY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA HAS ONLY RECALLED 2005 AND 2006 AND CAN NOT OFFER ANY EVIDENCE THAT PART USED IN 2007 WAS ANY DIFFERENT. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT TOYOTA WHICH I DID. IN RETURN, THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER MULTIPLE FOLLOW UP, WHICH I HAVE DOCUMENTED AND WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO FORWARD TO YOU, NO ONE IS GIVING ME ANY EVIDENCE THAT MASTER CYLINDER IN AVALONS BUILD BEFORE 7/2007, ARE ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE ONES THEY RECALLED. THE CAR WAS IN THEIR SHOP FOR 12 DAYS, I JUST PAID FOR REPAIR AND ASKED FOR THE OLD PART. HOWEVER, IF IT IS THE CASE THAT TOYOTA HAS DECIDED TO DO IGNORE THIS ISSUES WITH 2007 AVALON, THEY ARE PUTTING A LOT OF LIVES AT RISK. I AM ASKING FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS, NOT BECAUSE OF ME BUT ALL THE OTHER FAMILIES DRIVING A CAR WHICH HAS FAULTY BREAK SYSTEM. I AM HESITATING TO PASTE ALL MY CORRESPONDENTS WITH TOYOTA IN HERE BECAUSE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION BUT WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO FORWARD THEM TO YOU.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO SURGE FORWARD. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV AND THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM SURGING FORWARD. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,697 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000. UPDATED 6/8/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED LOW. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND STATED THE BRAKES WERE IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION. ON ONE OF SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS HE APPROACHED A RED LIGHT AND CONSEQUENTLY HE REAR ENDED A TRUCK. THE ONLY DAMAGED WAS TO HIS LICENSE PLATE BRACKET. CRACKS IN DASHBOARD STARTED APPEARING. FIRST SMALL, THEN EXTENDING ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE DASH. NOW MULTIPLE CRACKS IN DASH, AIRBAG COVER, GLOVE BOX SURROUND. DASH STARTED GETTING STICKY. I SPOKE TO THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN OCTOBER 2006. SINCE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL, THEY WON'T HELP. ESTIMATED $2100 TO REPAIR/REPLACE. SAID REPLACEMENT WOULD BE ORIGINAL FACTORY MATERIAL, SO I WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE DEFECTIVE AS WELL. HE SAID THEY SEE AT LEAST 2 CARS A WEEK WITH THIS PROBLEM. CALLED THE MANUFACTURER 800 NUMBER. THEY SAID DUE TO THE EXPENSE, OUT OF WARRANTY, NO SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL, THEY WOULD NOT HELP. SAID THE ONLY THING I COULD DO WAS REPORT IT, AND THAT THE MANAGER REVIEWS ALL COMPLAINTS. THIS WAS A $35,000 CAR WHICH NOW HAS 68,000 MILES AND IT HAS LOST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN RESALE VALUE. I'VE HAD CARS LAST 20 YEARS WITHOUT ANY CRACKS IN THE DASH, AND CERTAINLY THE TACKINESS/STICKINESS IS NOT NATURAL. I WORRY THAT IT MIGHT EMIT SOME TOXIC FUMES IN THE SUMMER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH CAUSED THE KEYS TO BEND AND THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE KEYS TO BEND WHEN THEY WERE INSIDE THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT STATED THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE COULD FAIL TO START IF THE KEY CONTINUED TO BEND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,316.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION INCIDENT. MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON HAD ALL RECALL WORK DONE IN MARCH 2010. THE CAR HAS AROUND 20,000 MILES ON IT. ON 9/5/2010 I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED INTO THE CURB. I WAS PRESSING AS HARD AS POSSIBLE ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I HIT THE CURB AND PUT THE GEAR IN PARK. IN THE PAST, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION "HANGING" WHEN TURNING INTO AN ALLEY OR UP A GARAGE RAMP, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST INSTANCE OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION I'VE HAD. *TR

VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, ENGINE RUNNING, TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE, DRIVER'S FOOT ON BRAKE. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE REVVED TO ABOUT 2000 RPM. AS FOOT REMAINED ON BRAKE, THE BRAKES HELD THE CAR FROM MOVING FORWARD. DRIVER PUT TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND SHUT ENGINE OFF. NO MOVEMENT, NO DAMAGE, NO INJURY. VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. OWNER MADE APPOINTMENT WITH TOYOTA DEALER FOR INSPECTION. VEHICLE WAS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON LIMITED WHICH WAS RECALLED FOR SUA AND WAS ALLEGEDLY CORRECTED BY A TOYOTA DEALER IN MARCH, 2010. INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 7-27-10. *TR

THE SHIFTING FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR FOR A PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AFTER THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,300. THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKS SLOWLY TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPED, FOR EXAMPLE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE BRAKES WILL STILL HOLD THE CAR EVEN WITH THE PEDAL AT THE BOTTOM TRAVEL LIMIT, BUT IT'S A DISCONCERTING FEELING TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE AND FEEL THE PEDAL SLOWING SINKING. IT SINKS FULLY TO THE BOTTOM LIMIT IN ABOUT 10 SECONDS WITH MODERATE PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER SAID THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION AND DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THAT DEALER IS RATED D - FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE BY THE BBB SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL, AND THEY COMPARED IT TO ANOTHER AVALON WHICH DID THE SAME THING, SO THEY ALSO REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED EARLIER BUT IT WAS NOT VERY OBVIOUS, NOT IT SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN WORSE, PERHAPS DUE TO THE VERY HOT WEATHER. THE TWO TOYOTA DEALERS, AND THE TOYOTA CORPORATE HQ IN TORRENCE HAVE ALL REFUSED TO TELL ME WHAT IS THE ALLOWABLE BRAKE PEDAL FADE RATE; I MAINTAIN THAT 5 TO 10 SECONDS MUST EXCEED SOME NOMINAL AND ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT. *TR

THE LIGHTS SHUT OFF AND THEN BACK ON FOR A FEW SECOND, AND THEN BACK OFF AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TURN THE LIGHTS BACK ON; HOWEVER, THEY SHUT OFF AGAIN WITHIN TEN MINUTES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR INSPECTED AT THE TIME THE COMPLAINT.THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,746. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,650.

THE CONTACT WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SINCE THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,000.
MY CAR IS A 2007 AVALON TOYOTA AND WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED IT I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR ACCELERATING, BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER AND NO PROBLEM WAS EVER FOUND. THIS HAPPENED A MINIMUM OF 3 TIMES. IT HAS BEEN APPROX. 3 WEEKS SINCE I HAD ALL THE RECALL WORK DONE AND WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM FLA. I WENT INTO A GAS STATION TO PUT AIR IN MY TIRES AND THEN ALL [XXX] BROKE LOOSE. I WAS DRIVING SLOW LOOKING FOR THE AIR PUMP AND THE CARWENT CRAZY ACCELERATING. I YELLED, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES AND TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FLOOR MAT, PEDAL ETC. NOTHING WAS NOTICEABLE STUCK. I LOVE THIS CAR, BUT THERE IS A DEVIL INSIDE THE MOTOR. SINCE THE RECALL DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM WHAT SHOULD I DO? STEERING COLUM ADJUSTING CONTROL CONTINUES TO RELEASE. THIS CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO GO INTO THE THE DASH AREA OR UP OR DOWN. THERE IS NO CONTROL OF STEERING. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, OIL BURST ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND DRAINED OUT OF MY CAR, SPILLED ONTO THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE. THE OIL LIGHT OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. DEALER MADE REPAIRS AFTER KEEPING MY CAR -NOT A RECALL NOTICE BUT A NOTED PROBLEM. NO POWER WHILE PRESSING ON THE GAS. THERE IS A DELAYED REACTION RESULTING IN SLOW OR NO SPEED FOR PASSING OR JUST DRIVING (DEALER INDICATED POWER TRANS PROBLEM - NOT RECALL KEPT CAR 3+ DAYS FOR REPAIRS). THE GREY PAINT HAS SPOTS ITHAT WILL NOT COME OUT WITH A WASH AND WAX.
MY CONCERN IS ABOUT MY CRACKED DASHBOARD MATERIAL. IT'S CRACKED DIRECTLY ACROSS WHERE MY AIRBAG DEPLOY , ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. IT'S GOT TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD. CAR ACCELERATED NORMALLY TO ABOUT 65 MPH AT WHICH POINT THE ACCELERATOR WENT TO THE FLOOR, UNCOMMANDED. ONCE CLEAR OF THE PASSED VEHICLE, I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND COASTED TO A SOMEWHAT SAFE LOCATION TO STOP. THE ACCELERATOR WAS STILL LOCKED DOWN. WITH THE IGNITION OFF, I WAS ABLE TO REPOSITION THE ACCELERATOR TO THE NORMAL POSITION AFTER SHIFTING THE CAR FROM 'PARK' TO 'NEUTRAL' SEVERAL TIMES. THEN I CONTINUED THE TRIP. WIFE IN THE RIGHT SEAT WAS PETRIFIED. LATER, AT A BETTER LOCATION ON A DIVIDED HIGHWAY WITH A 70 MPH SPEED LIMIT, I SET UP THE SAME CONDITIONS AS PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED. AFTER ACCELERATING FROM 60 MPH TO ABOUT 68 MPH WITH A HALF-THROTTLE COMMAND, THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION TO FULL THROTTLE HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I TURNED OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THEN ATTEMPTED, UNSUCCESSFULLY, TO PULL THE ACCELERATOR OFF THE FLOOR WITH THE EDGE OF MY SHOE WHICH DID NOT TERMINATE THE ACCELERATION. AT ABOUT 80 MPH I WENT THROUGH THE SHUT-DOWN PROCEDURE AGAIN WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MY WIFE IS THE PRINCIPLE DRIVER OF THE CAR, BUT I WILL ALWAYS DO ALL THE DRIVING ON LONG TRIPS AND HAVE PUT THE CAR IN A SIMILAR PASSING SITUATIONS SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT PREVIOUS ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. I AM AN COMBAT TESTED EX-FIGHTER PILOT AND TEST PILOT WITH SEVERAL THOUSAND HOURS IN HIGH PERFORMANCE FIGHTERS AND THOROUGHLY UNDERSTAND PHYSICS. 2007 TOYOTA AVALON - I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH MY AVALON UNTIL THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP INSTALLED THE RECALLS. UPON DEPARTING THE DEALERSHIP, AFTER COMPLETION OF THE RECALLS, I FOUND MY AVALON WOULD NOT DRIVE BELOW 55 MPH (ENGINE RPM WOULD NOT GO BELOW 1800 RPM) AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON BUT IT WAS NOT! I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE AVALON OVER NIGHT AND THE NEXT DAY WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM! TOYOTA ENGINEERING INDICATED, TO ME, THAT THEY THOUGHT THIS WAS A COMPUTER ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER LEARNING MY DRIVING HABITS, SOUNDS STRANGE TO ME! THE NEWLY INSTALLED BRAKE OVERRIDE DID WORK PROPERLY. TOYOTA RETURNED THE AVALON TO ME BUT I AM ONLY USING IT WHEN I HAVE TO AS MY FAMILY DOES NOT WANT TO RIDE IN IT. *TR
THIS A FOLLOWUP TO A PRIOR COMPLAINT ODI NUMBER 10306728. MY TOYOTA AVALON WAS REPAIRED BY TOYOTA DCH IN MAMARONECK AND THE PEDAL PART ADDED, BUT THIS WEEK I AGAIN NOTED AN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, THIS TIME A LOW SPEED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. *TR

I WAS APPROXIMATELY 2 1/2 CARS LENGTH APART FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I SAW THE TRAFFIC LIGHT BEGIN TO CHANGE FROM YELLOW TO RED, I QUICKLY PUT ON MY BRAKES, BUT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP; IT ACCELERATED INSTEAD. I KEPT MY FOOT ALL THE WAY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE CAR STILL DID NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP. I BRACE MYSELF FOR THE IMPACT BECAUSE I KNEW THAT IT WAS UNAVOIDABLE TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT FINALLY STOPPED WHEN IT STRUCK THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
TOTAL LOSS OF OIL FROM CRANKCASE. BURST OIL LINE ON MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON RESULTING IN THE PUMPING OF OIL ONTO THE GROUND WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. THIS HAS BEEN A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AS FOUND ON SEVERAL CONSUMER WEBSITES. THE FIX COST ME >$450 NOT INCLUDING TOWING TO TOYOTA DEALER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN AS IT SHOULD HAVE WHEN SENSING A VEHICLE IN THE NEAR FRONT. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A LASER CRUISE CONTROL THAT WAS CAPABLE OF SCANNING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND SLOWING DOWN AS TO NOT HIT THAT VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING A VEHICLE. HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM AT LEAST 12 TIMES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAD HEARD NOTHING ABOUT SUCH A PROBLEM AND ARRANGED FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED 02/23/2010. HE HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 39,300. UPDATED 03/19/10. *LJ THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO DISENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON FEB 23, 2008. UPDATED 09/21/10
I RECEIVED A MAT RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA FOR MY 2007 AVALON BACK IN THE FALL. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REMEDY NOTICE TO HAVE IT FIXED AT THE LOCAL DEALER. WHEN I CALL THE DEALER, THEY BOUNCE ME TO THE TOYOTA 800 NUMBER. WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG. I HAVE TO WONDER IF THE CARS AT THE TOYOTA PLANTS AND ON DEALERS' LOT ARE BEING REPAIRED FIRST. I ALSO HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THE STICKING GAS PEDAL. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET FASTER ACTION BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS? *TW *TR
