DRIVER SEAT WARMER STAY ON WHEN THE SWITCH IS OFF. *TR
I PURCHASED THE USED VEHICLE FROM CORWIN TOYOTA IN FARGO, ND. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I RETURNED THREE TIMES FOR REPAIRS. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE THE THIRD TIME IN SIX WEEKS I FOUND OUT THAT TWO RECALLS WOULD ALSO BE TAKEN CARE OF. I WENT ON LINE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE RECALLS WERE FOR. ONE OF THEM WAS NHTSA RECALL ID 13V442. THIS RECALL IS ABOUT A DRAIN HOSE CLOGGING THAT COULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE THE AIR BAGS TO ACTIVATE DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OR TO POSSIBLY NOT ACTIVATE IN AN ACCIDENT. THE RESULT COULD BE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR. THIS RECALL WAS INITIATED IN THE SUMMER OF 2013. THE DEALER(CORWIN) TOOK THIS CAR IN ON TRADE IN OCTOBER OF 2014 AND THEN SOLD IT TO ME. WHY WOULD THEY SELL A CAR WITH A KNOWN RECALL WITHOUT FIXING IT. ESPECIALLY ONE THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY/DEATH? WHY IS THIS ALLOWED? *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A CLEAR SUNNY DAY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON AND BEGAN TO OPERATE AT FULL SPEED AND WOULD NOT RESPOND AT ATTEMPTS TO STOP THEM. THE HORN STARTED GOING OFF WITH ALARM NOISES IN THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL OF AN ELECTRICAL ODOR AND WHITE SMOKE BEGAN TO ENTER THE CABIN THROUGH THE DASH. ATTEMPTS TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER WERE PREVENTED AS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND OR WORK DESPITE STEPPING ON THEM WITH BOTH FEET AND ATTEMPTING TO PUMP THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL TRAVELING ON THE ROAD AND DOWN A HILL WITH NO ELECTRICAL, STEERING, OR POWER FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE. AS THE VEHICLE SLOWED THE PASSENGER JUMPED OUT. FIRE BEGAN TO COME THROUGH THE DASH AND UPON THE DRIVER OPENING HIS DOOR FIRE ALSO CAME INTO THE CABIN FROM BENEATH THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER JUMPED OUT JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAREENED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND EXPLODED 3 TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON HYBRID. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY A DRUNK DRIVER, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH THE VEHICLE INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT AND FRONT PASSENGER WERE INJURED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DRIVER FROM THE OTHER VEHICLE ALSO SUSTAINED INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,500.
CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) HAS BEEN MEASURED IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING, WHEN THE ENGINE IS UNDER LOAD. ALSO, THE SMELL OF ENGINE COMBUSTION FUMES IS INCLUDED WITH THE CO. TOYOTA HAS DETERMINED THAT IT IS NOT A "REPAIRABLE CONDITION". TECHNICAL REPAIR MANUALS DO NOT LIST THE CONDITION, THEREFORE NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE. TOYOTA HAS NOT HONORED ITS WARRANTY. I HAVE INCURRED A FINANCIAL LOSS. TO DATE, TOYOTA HAS NOT PROVIDED A SOLUTION TO THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. A LETTER WITH DETAILS HAS BEEN SENT TO NHTSA, DATED 1/26/2016.
THE TOP TWO CLIPS OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK DISCONNECTED FROM THE SEAT BACK TRIM PANEL AND THE TRIM PANEL CANNOT BE REATTACHED AT THE TOP CLIPS. THE BOTTOM HINGE IS STILL ATTACHED. THE TRIM PANEL IS NOW HANGING BACK, ALMOST TOUCHING THE REAR SEAT. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SMELL OF COMBUSTION GAS THAT COMES INTO CABIN OF VEHICLE UPON ACCELERATION. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THAT PROBLEM WAS NOT RECOGNIZED IN THE TECHNICAL MANUAL; THEREFORE, THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES CARBON MONOXIDE WAS BEING RELEASED INTO THE VEHICLE. *JS
PER THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE DRAIN HOSE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER IN MY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON MAY BECOME CLOGGED CAUSING WATER TO ACCUMULATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER UNIT HOUSING. THE ACCUMULATED WATER MAY THEN LEAK THROUGH A SEAM IN THE HOUSING ONTO THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN A SHORT CIRCUIT OF THE MODULE. THEY SAY TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED AFTER THE TIRES WERE INFLATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,500.
NOTICED SOME TIME A GO THE HEADLINER IS SAGGING AT THE BACK WINDOW. WAS AT DEALER FOR SERVICE AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ORDER A NEW ONE. AFTER OBSERVING COMPLAINTS ON TNE NHTSA SITE I SEE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. WE'LL SEE IF THEY ORDER IT, HOPEFULLY TOYOTA RECTIFIES THIS BEFORE PEOPLE REALLY GET A CASE OF THE A__. MORE THAN THAT THOUGH, I HOPE THIS DOESN'T BECOME A REAL SAFETY HAZARD.
WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2013 TOYOTA AVALON ON I-10 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. AFTER STOPPING FOR GAS, WE REENTERED THE HIGHWAY AND THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. BEFORE WE COULD PULL OVER, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT; THE ENTIRE INTERIOR SIDEWALL SEPARATED. WE HAD NOT HIT ANY POTHOLE OR ANY OTHER OBJECT. THANKFULLY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DIDN'T SWERVE INTO THE 18 WHEELER NEXT TO US. THE MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES TOYOTA HAD PLACED ON THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DOWNGRADED FROM A 40K MILE TIRE TO A 0 MILE TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 15,143 MILES ON IT AND WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. A SECOND TIRE (LEFT REAR TIRE) WAS ALSO TOO DANGEROUS TO CONTINUE TO USE (AS IT LOOKED LIKE THE INTERIOR SIDEWALL ON THAT ONE WAS ALSO ABOUT TO SEPARATE) SO WE HAD TO REPLACE THAT TIRE AS WELL THAT DAY. WE WILL BE REPLACING THE OTHER TWO NOW AND WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY ANY BRIDGESTONE OR FIRESTONE PRODUCT. THE ABSOLUTELY SUBSTANDARD QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS PLACED THE LIVES OF OUR ENTIRE FAMILY AT RISK. MY DAUGHTERS OFTEN DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND ONE OF THEM WILL BE TAKING IT TO COLLEGE IN THE FALL. I WOULD HATE TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF ONE OF OUR KIDS HAD BEEN BEHIND THE WHEEL WHEN THIS TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS INEXCUSABLE THAT BRIDGESTONE WOULD PUT OUT SUCH POOR QUALITY PRODUCTS, REPRESENTING THEM TO BE A 40K MILE TIRE, THEN DOWNGRADE THE MILEAGE ON THE TIRES WITHOUT NOTIFYING OWNERS AND GET AWAY WITH THAT TYPE OF ACTIVITY. WE ALWAYS MAINTAIN OUR VEHICLES AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND VEHICLE ALIGNMENT CHECKED ALL PER NORMAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. TIRES ARE BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL 400, P225/45R18 91V M+S, DOT OBRR PM1 0313. *TR
I PURCHASED A TOYOTA AVALON LIMITED CERTIFIED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SAFE WITH NO RECALLS OR APPLICABLE SSCS. ON MAY 16 2014. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF A OUTSTANDING SAFETY RECALL INVOLVING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT HOUSING MAY LEAK ONTO THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE. I DID NOT FIND THIS OUT UNTIL MAY 21 2014 5 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR THE DEALERSHIP KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE OCT 2013, AND STILL SOLD THE CAR, HAD I NOT CHECK THE VIN # WITH THE SAFETY BOARD I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN, THEY SAY THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPAIRED ON MAY 21 2014. NEVER THE LESS THE DEALERSHIP FALSIFIED THE CERTIFICATION AND COMMITTED FRAUD BY SELLING ME THIS CAR. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR THE REQUIRED 10,000 MILE WARRANTY MAINTENANCE. AT THIS TIME, I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WATER MARKS HAD APPEARED IN ALL FOUR UPPER CORNERS OF THE INSIDE CLOTH LINERS BESIDE THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELDS. I WAS TOLD THE SUNROOF HAD TUBES THAT OCCASIONALLY CLOGGED AND THEY WOULD CLEAR THE TUBES AND CLEAN THE INSIDE CLOTH. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS OUR AREA EXPERIENCED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF RAIN. WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 15,000 MILE WARRANTY MAINTENANCE, I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WATER MARKS APPEARED TO HAVE WORSENED IN THE SAME AREAS. THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT THERE WERE NO CLOGS IN THE SUNROOF TUBING AND THEY HAD ATTEMPTED TO RECREATE THE WATER LEAKAGE BY RUNNING WATER OVER THE CAR FOR ONE HOUR. THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE WATER MARKS KEPT REAPPEARING AND DID NOT KNOW IF ANYONE CALLED TOYOTA. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE BECAUSE THERE WERE NO "RECALLS" PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE. I PERFORMED A GOOGLE SEARCH AND DISCOVERED A BLOG WHERE MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND ONE PERSON EVEN HAD TO HAVE THE HEADLINERS AND CLOTH REPLACED DUE TO WATER DAMAGE. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO BUT I COULD REPORT THIS TO THE NHTSA IF I FELT THE NEED TO SEEK REPAIRS. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY VEHICLE ON FEBRUARY 6, 2014 AND EVERY TIME I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY HVAC ASSEMBLY REPAIRED THEY TELL ME THAT THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER. I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE PUTTING ME AND MY SAFETY AT RISK BY NOT PRODUCING A FIX FOR THIS RECALL. *TR
ON SUNDAY, MARCH 16, 2014, AT APPROXIMATELY 12:50PM, NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC ON LAKE SHORE DRIVE WAS BROUGHT TO A HALT BY FOUR POLICE VEHICLES THAT SPREAD ACROSS THE FOUR NORTHBOUND LANES. THE POLICE VEHICLES WERE PARKED, ONE IN EACH LANE. THE OFFICERS HAD CREATED A ROAD BLOCK. MY CAR WAS IN THE FAR EAST LANE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND A PARKED POLICE VEHICLE. I PLACED MY VEHICLE IN PARK, BUT KEPT THE ENGINE RUNNING. MINUTES LATER, A BLACK CHRYSLER SEDAN DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED (ESTIMATED AT 55-100MPH PER POLICE REPORTS) WAS BEING PURSUED BY THE POLICE IN A HIGH SPEED CHASE. THE BLACK CHRYSLER APPROACHED MY STATIONARY VEHICLE FROM THE REAR WITH NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN. I TOLD MY FAMILY WE WERE ABOUT TO BE HIT AND SOON AFTER WE FELT THE IMPACTS FIRST FROM THE BLACK SEDAN HITTING US FROM BEHIND AND THEN FROM THE FRONT WHEN MY CAR WAS PUSHED INTO THE PARKED POLICE VEHICLE AHEAD OF US. MY HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING AN ABRASION AND BLEEDING. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED DESPITE A HIGH SPEED IMPACT FROM THE REAR AND A SECONDARY IMPACT IN THE FRONT. *TR
RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA, MARCH 2014 REGARDING INTERNAL SHORT CIRCUITING OF THE INTEGRATED CIRCUITS ON THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. CONTACT TOYOTA SEPT 2014 REGARDING WHEN THIS WOULD BE FIXED. THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT KNOW. I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, THAT BEING 7 MONTHS FROM MARCH TO SEPTEMBER. I AM FILLING A VEHICULAR SAFETY COMPLAINT THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE RECALL IN A TIMELY MANNER WHICH COULD CAUSE INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAGS OR SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS CAUSING INJURY. *TR
2013 TOYOTA AVALON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION VEHICLE ACCIDENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARDS OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. LUCKILY, SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING OR ANYONE. HOWEVER, IT THEN ACCELERATED FORWARD HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, AND IT WAS DETERMINED, THE ACCIDENT WAS NOT A RESULT OF ANY TYPE OF MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT. *JB
TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, SUDDEN BRAKING IN FRONT OF ME REQUIRED QUICK BRAKING. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, NO BRAKES ACTIVATED AND THE CAR ACTUALLY SEEMED TO INCREASE SPEED. I THEN APPLIED HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL WHICH CAUSED THE TIRES TO SCREECH/SLIDE BEFORE THE ABS ACTIVATED. THE SUDDEN BRAKING INCIDENT CAUSED ME TO FEAR NOT ONLY BEING REAR ENDED, BUT ALSO, RAMMING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. VERY UNSETTLING AND I NOW HAVE MUCH LESS CONFIDENCE IN TOYOTA'S TOP OF THE LINE SEDAN. I AM GOING TO LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT TODAY AS THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY, APRIL 16, 2014.

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPECTED DATE FOR THE PART TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WENT THROUGH A CAR WASH THE OTHER DAY AND WHEN THE CAR WAS BEING DRIED BY THE BLOWER, SOME WATER CAME IN THROUGH THE SUNROOF. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY DID A HIGH PRESSURE WATER TEST. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS THE MATTER. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THEY COULD HAP[PEN WHEN YOU DRIVE THROUGH THE CAR WASH. I IMMEDIATELY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA AND THEY ADVISED THAT I HAVE ANOTHER DEALER LOOK AT IT. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT MONDAY 11/11. WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS. *TR
I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON, THERE IS ONE REALLY BAD DESIGN FLAW!!! THE ACCENT CHROME AROUND THE CONTROLS AND AIR CONDITIONER VENTS REFLECT THE SUNLIGHT INTO THE EYES OF THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER, AND IT IS BLINDING. THE BLINDING REFLECTION MAY CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND/OR DIRECT INJURY TO THE EYES SUCH AS RETINA, CORNEA DAMAGE AS WELL AS ANY OTHER EYE DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. I HAVE TRIED THE DARKEST/PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR THAT I CAN PURCHASE BUT THE REFLECTION STILL COMES THROUGH BLINDING. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE DARKEST WINDOW TENT ALLOWED BY LAW INSTALLED (PURCHASED AT THE DEALERSHIP). I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA DIRECTLY BUT HAVE HAD NO OFFER FOR A SOLUTION. THIS IS A SIMPLE TO FIX WITH A REPLACEMENT PIECE OF DASH CHROME IN A NON-REFLECTIVE COLOR SUCH AS A FLAT BLACK, WOOD-GRAIN, OR BRUSHED METAL COLOR. A CUSTOM DESIGNED DASH AREA SHADE SHOULD ALSO OFFER A SOLUTION. I HAVE VERIFIED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS THROUGH AN INTERNET SEARCH. *TR
THE MAIN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE IS THE HEADLINER COMING DOWN, IT HAS BEEN TO 2 DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERS FOR REPAIR, AND TO DATE IT IS STILL NOT CORRECTED. I WAS TOLD BY THE LAST DEALERSHIP, THAT THEY CAN NOT FIX IT ANYMORE, IT IS TAKING AWAY FROM THERE MAN HOURS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FILED IN A COURT SETTING, AWAITING A COURT DATE. THIS ISSUE IS GOING TO CAUSE HARM TO SOMEONE SOON, AND TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A CONSTANT GLARE FROM THE DASHBOARD, AFFECTING THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY OF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE APPROACHING VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO ALTER THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN OPTED TO CLEAN THE DASHBOARD AND WINDSHIELD AS A TEMPORARY REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DRIVING ON STRAIGHT LEVEL INTERSTATE WITH LASER CRUISE SET AT 65 MPH AND NO OTHER CARS OR OBSTACLES PRESENT, CAR SUDDENLY BRAKED TWO TIMES (ABOUT 20 MINUTES APART). THE SAME THING OCCURRED ABOUT 7 DAYS LATER ON COMPARABLE ROAD IN LIGHT RAIN. IN THIS LATER SITUATION, WIPERS SUDDENLY WENT ON HIGH SPEED, FOR 5 SECONDS AND CAR BRAKED TWICE IN SPAN OF ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WE TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALER THE NEXT MORNING IN RAPID CITY, SD, WHO SAID HE COULD NOT WORK ON IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND SUGGESTED WE CALL TOYOTA. TOYOTA SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A CRUISE PROBLEM AND ASKED IF WE COULD CAREFULLY DRIVE IT TO SALT LAKE CITY TO BE EVALUATED. ON WAY TO SALT LAKE CITY, CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ABOVE THE SETTING OF 65 MPH. PRESSED BRAKES TO CANCEL. DEALER IN SALT LAKE CITY SAID CAR DISPLAYED A DEFECT CODE FOR THE LASER CRUISE AND THE BLIND SPOT MONITORING AND SAID CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE HOME TO ARIZONA IF WE DID NOT USE THE CRUISE. TOOK CAR BACK TO ORIGINATING DEALER IN PHOENIX AREA FOR REPAIRS BLIND SPOT MONITORING APPARENTLY REPAIRED. HOWEVER, FACTORY REP DROVE CAR FOR 25 MILES AND STATED THAT THIS IS THE WAY LASER CRUISE IS SUPPOSED TO WORK AND REFUSES TO AUTHORIZE ANY REPAIRS. TOYOTA CORP CONTINUES TO SELL 2013 TOYOTA AVALONS WITH A KNOWN DEFECT TO THE HEADLINER. THE HEADLINER TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SAGS AND MAY POTENTIALLY OBSTRUCT THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING. IT IS APPARENT AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE THAT TOYOTA IS FULLY AWARE OF THE DEFECT BUT FAILED TO CONTACT DEALERSHIPS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. AFTER LOOKING CLOSER, THE HEADLINER IS DROOPING TOWARDS THE REAR WINDSHIELD AS WELL AS A NOTICEABLE GAP NEAR THE MOON ROOF. TOOK BACK TO DEALER AND THEY ORDERED A NEW PART. ABOUT 8/27/13, TOOK BACK TO DEALER BECAUSE THE SEAT PANEL ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT WAS FALLING OFF. 9/13/13, DEALER INSTALLED A NEW HEADLINER. PICKING UP ON 9/18/13 AFTER A NEW HEADLINER WAS INSTALLED, THE GAP REMAINS AT THE MOON ROOF AREA AND ONE OF THE BACK PANELS WAS NOT IN PLACE. THE DEALER WAS STILL WAITING FOR SEAT BACK PANEL PART AND WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BACK PANEL. 9/18/13 - LEFT IT AT THE DEALER SINCE HEADLINER ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED AND THE SEAT BACK PANEL IS STILL NOT FIXED. I'M AFRAID THE CAR WILL NEVER BE LIKE NEW AND I'M AFRAID EVEN ANOTHER NEW HEADLINER WILL STILL HAVE ISSUES. I BELIEVE IT'S A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, HE HEARD A STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. AS HE MADE A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT RESPOND AND INSTEAD OF SNAPPING BACK INTO A 12 O'CLOCK POSITION, IT STAYED LOCKED INTO THE TURN. HE COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL TO STRAIGHTEN OUT THE VEHICLE. AS HE LOOKED UP, HE SAW HE WAS ABOUT TO CRASH INTO AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. WITH NO TIME TO REACT, HE HIT THE ONCOMING VEHICLE, IN A FRONT END COLLISION. AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, HE WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 15 MPH. THE OTHER DRIVER SUSTAINED A NECK INJURY AND A BUMP ON THE TOP OF HIS HEAD, WHEN HE HIT THE ROOF ON IMPACT AND THE CONSUMER SUFFERED WHIPLASH. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONSUMER HEARD THE SAME NOISE A BEFORE, RIGHT BEFORE THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. TOYOTA CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAD WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP PLAZA TOYOTA IN BROOKLYN NY TO HAVE THEM TAKE A LOOK AT THE REAR HEADLINER THAT HAD BEEN COMING DOWN. I WAS TOLD THAT MY APPOINTMENT WAS TOO LATE IN THE EVENING SO I HAD TO SET AN EARLIER APPOINT WHICH WOULD BE THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AFTER THE HOLIDAY. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF AT ABOUT 9AM ON JULY 8TH AND PICKED IT UP ABOUT 6:30PM THAT DAY ONLY TO HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ROTATED THE TIRES...WHICH WAS LAUGHABLE BECAUSE I WAS NEVER CALLED AND TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WITH MY REAR HEADLINER COULD NOT BE FIXED THAT DAY. I WAS TOLD BY MY SERVICE ADVISER THAT THEY NEEDED APPROVAL FROM THE DISTRICT MANAGER BECAUSE THE REPAIRS WERE QUITE COSTLY AND IT TAKES UP TO 30 DAYS IN MOST INSTANCES TO GET APPROVAL. I IMMEDIATELY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND NYC BBB. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME BACK IN A FEW DAYS AND ASSURED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED WHEN I CAME BACK IN THE COUNTRY FROM VACATION. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP IN MID AUGUST ONLY TO HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS WERE DENIED BECAUSE THE PICTURES SHOW THAT THE HEADLINER WAS TAMPERED WITH AND VOIDED THE WARRANTY. I AGAIN FILED ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND NYC BBB ONLY THIS TIME I WAS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO ARBITRATION WITH NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. I ALSO HAVE CORRESPONDENCE FROM THE DEALERSHIP VIA VOICEMAIL AND THE RESPONSE THEY GAVE BBB THAT I VOIDED THE WARRANTY. THE FUNNY THING ABOUT THIS IS WHEN THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT I HAD REQUESTED AN ARBITRATION THEY IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO CALL MY PHONE EVERY DAY FOR 2 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY WERE WRONG TO DENY MY CLAIM AND FIX THE CAR FOR FREE. NOW THEY ARE FACING THE FACT THEY MAY HAVE TO GIVE ME A FULL REFUND FOR THE VEHICLE OR A COMPARABLE CAR.....IDIOTS. *TR
THERE IS A GLARE IN THE REAR WINDOW THAT TENDS TO ALWAYS HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON VISIBILITY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY 40 YEARS OF DRIVING AND OWNING OVER 20 VEHICLES. IT SEEMS THE ANGLE OF THE WINDOW COMBINED WITH THE LIGHT GRAY REAR DECK MATERIAL CREATES THE DISTRACTING REFLECTION/GLARE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE PORT INSTALLED TINTING THAT CAUSED THE REFLECTION, BUT NOW I AM BEGINNING TO THINK IT IS A DESIGN FLAW. WE NOTICED THAT WHEN YOU OPENED THE SUNROOF THE AIR ENTERING THE CAR MADE THE ROOF OR HEADLINER SHAKE AND MOVE AS IF TO MUCH AIR WAS GETTING UNDER IT CAUSING THE HEADLINER TO SEPARATE FROM THE ROOF. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY TOLD US THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE HEADLINERS AND THAT NO PARTS WERE BEING REPLACED AT THIS TIME. I LOOK AT THIS AS A MAJOR FLAW AND THE ROOF COMING LOOSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING THE TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT. I DROVE TO BALTIMORE, MD FROM CHERRY HILL, NJ ON 06/16/2013 AT SPEEDS VARYING FROM 45MPH - 75MPH. THE MOMENT I GOT ON TO NJ TURNPIKE, THE WIND AND ROAD NOISE WERE LOUD INSIDE THE CABIN. THE ENTIRE TIME IT SEEMED THE WINDOWS OF THE CAR WERE OPEN EVEN THOUGH THE A/C WAS ON SLOW, WINDOWS AND SUNROOF WERE CLOSED. (I HAVE TWO OLDER CARS I.E. HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2002 AND HONDA ACCORD 2005 WHICH HAVE LESS CABIN NOISE WHEN WINDOWS ARE CLOSED). CONSIDERING, THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR, HIGH END AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE VERY QUITE, I FIND IT A BIG SAFETY RISK AS THE NOISE IS DISTRACTING, BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO SEE IF THE WINDOWS WERE OPEN, DOORS WERE PROPERLY CLOSED AND SUN ROOF WASN'T OPEN / TILTED, ALL THE WHILE DISTRACTING ME FROM THE ROAD. HOWEVER, AS THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE STILL SELLING VEHICLES WITH THIS DEFECT TO UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS. ALTHOUGH YOU CAN STILL SEE OUT THE REAR WINDOW, WHO KNOWS FOR HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE IT JUST GIVES WAY. AS TOYOTA WILL NOT/OR CAN NOT REPAIR THIS ISSUE, AND WILL NOT REPLACE THE HEADLINER OR THE VEHICLE THEY REALLY AREN'T HONORING THE WARRANTY EITHER. SERIOUS PROBLEM: 2013 TOYOTA AVALON DASHBOARD TRIM CAUSES A DANGEROUS REFLECTION OF SUNLIGHT DIRECTLY INTO DRIVER'S EYES. DURING MID-DAY SUN, BLINDING BEAMS OF SUNLIGHT BOUNCE OFF SEVERAL AREAS OF THE MIRRORED-CHROME-COLORED PLASTIC TRIM THAT SURROUNDS THE DASHBOARD AND WRAPS AROUND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. SUNLIGHT IS REFLECTED OFF CHROME TRIM BENEATH THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER. BLINDING SUNLIGHT ALSO REFLECTS OFF TRIM ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AND OTHER POINTS ACROSS THE TRIM. DEPENDING ON TIME OF DAY AND DIRECTION OF CAR, SUNLIGHT BOUNCES OFF DIFFERENT PLACES ON THE TRIM. BECAUSE THE TRIM IS BEVELED, INSTEAD OF A VERTICAL SURFACE, IT FOCUSES THE SUNLIGHT DIRECTLY BACK INTO THE DRIVER''S EYES. DRIVERS NEED TO REGULARLY GLANCE DOWN AT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND REFLECTED SUNLIGHT FROM THAT AREA AND OTHER SECTIONS ON THE DASH IS DANGEROUSLY DISTRACTING. ACCIDENTS COULD OCCUR AS A RESULT OF DRIVERS BEING MOMENTARILY BLINDED BY THEIR DASHBOARD TRIM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE MIRRORED SURFACE OF THE TRIM, AS WELL AS OTHER CHROME TRIM ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND AROUND THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS, WITH A DARK-COLORED TRIM OR MATTE, NON-REFLECTIVE SURFACE. DESPITE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS POSTED AT THE NHTSA AND MY DIRECT CONTACT WITH TOYOTA MOTORS USA, THE COMPANY REFUSED TO OFFER A SOLUTION AND/OR TEMPORARY WORK-AROUND FOR RETRO-FITTING THE TRIM WITH A NON-REFLECTIVE SURFACE. THE COMPANY TOLD ME IT DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH SUNLIGHT REFLECTING INTO DRIVER'S' EYES FROM THE TRIM. THUS, NO PROBLEM MEANS NO NEED FOR A SOLUTION. MY WIFE WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE WITHOUT RESULTS. THE MIRROR HOUSINGS WERE CHANGED ON MODELS AFTER 8/2013 (HAD RIBS ADD TO HOUSING) RETURN TO DEALER AND THEY CHANGED TO THE NEWER HOUSINGS AND THE NOISE WENT AWAY.

WHILE DRIVING FROM KNOXVILLE TN TO ATLANTA GA, ON A DOWNGRADE JUST OUTSIDE OF CHATTANOOGA ON INTERSTATE 75 I WENT TO USE THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT COME BACK. I HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER AND ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD WAS I ABLE TO SAFELY MAKE IT OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, WHICH WAS CLEAR, AND WAIT UNTIL I GOT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE GRADE FOR THE VEHICLE TO COAST TO A STOP ON IT'S OWN. I HAD TO USE THE GRASS AND GRAVEL JUST OFF THE EMERGENCY LANE TO HELP BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO TOYOTA OF KNOXVILLE, WHERE PURCHASED, AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. HAVE DRIVEN ANOTHER 500 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT AND NO PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR WHAT HAPPENED HAS BEEN OFFERED BY TOYOTA. *TR
