TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING OUT OF A CAR WASH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A HOUSE. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THE CRASH. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 52000.
ON TWO OCCASIONS BATTER EXPLODED WHILE TRAVELING. DEALER NOTIFED, AND REPLACED BATTERY AT CONSUMER'S COST. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
PE00 020; WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 50MPH ON HIGHWAY AND NOTICED SLIGHT VIBRATION . RIGHT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM TIRES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. HE CONTACTED FIRESTONE, TIRE WASN'T ON RECALL.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE 50MPH, A BOLT HOLDING ROD CAP CAME OFF & FELL INTO OIL PAN. THIS CAUSED ENGINE TO LOCK UP ON FRONT WHEEL DRIVE IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. ENGINE WAS NOT STRIPPED. A FRIEND TOOK OIL PAN OFF. *AK CONSUMER WHO USED TO WORK IN TOYOTA'S DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT EXAMINED VEHICLE TO FINDA ONE ROD TAP THAT HAD NEVER BEEN TIGHTENED AND A LOCK CAP THAT WAS NEVER INSTALLED. *SLC
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A FRONTAL COLLISION FROM PASSENGER'S SIDE AT AN IMPACT OF 60-65 MPH, WHICH CAUSD VEHICLE TO SPIN A FEW TIMES, AND BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
AIRBAG SENSOR FAILED/FALSE DEPLOYMENT, CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO DISCHAGE WHEN THE CAR SCRAPPED THE CURB DURING A THREE POINT TURN. NLM
CONSUMER HAS BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS ON SIDE & FRONT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER & NO WARRANTY. CONSUMER WILL HAVE TO COVER COST. *AK
WHEN DRIVING STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED/LOCKED UP, CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, AND RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, RECALL 99V307000 DEALT WITH SAME PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED. *AK *ML
THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPRING WAS SEVERED INTO 2 PIECES WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY PUNCTURED. REPLACEMENT REQUIRED SPRINGS AND SHOCKS ON BOTH SIDES AS WELL AS BALL BEARINGS AND A NEW TIRE ON LEFT SIDE. ALSO FRONT END REALLIGNMENT. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT TIME THIS HAPPENED OR COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH POSSIBLE INJURIES AND LOSS OF LIFE. I AM TROUBLED BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND LOW MILES. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A PROBLEM ON ANY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. *AK
POWER WINDOW REPAIR SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND TAKES DAYS TO GET PART AND DURING THAT TIME WINDOW CAN'T BE PUT UP.
WHILE DRIVING ON DARK/RAINY ROAD CONDITIONS, TRAVELING 30MPH, CAME AROUND A CURVE, AND THERE WERE ROCKS IN THE ROAD ABOUT THE SIZE OF GRAPEFRUITS, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WENT OVER ROCKS, AND BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN PARTIALLY APPLIED THE BRAKES. CONTACTED DEALER. NO DAMAGE TO VEHICLE, BUT DRIVER INJURED. *AK *ML
SEAT BELT JAMMED AT TIME OF PURCHASE. *MJS
MY 1995 TOYOTA CAMRY BEGAN TO HAVE DOCUMENTED SIGNS OF OIL SLUDGE DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AROUND 1999. EACH TIME I WOULD HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND ANY REPAIRS MADE TO KEEP MY CAR IN GOOD AND WORKING CONDITION, IT WAS NOTED THAT MY OIL HAD SLUDGE. AT THAT TIME, I KNEW NOTHING OF THE TOYOTA SLUDGE ISSUE. AFTER HAVING THIS DIAGNOSIS A FEW TIMES, I WENT SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR A SECOND OPINION SINCE THE "SLUDGE" PROBLEM KEPT RECURRING DESPITE OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I WAS TOLD ABOUT TOYOTA MODELS WITH COMPLAINTS OF ENGINE SLUDGE. MY MODEL WAS NOT INCLUDED (1995 CAMRY, V4). I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED TOYOTA WITHOUT RECOURSE. I HAVE SPENT OVER 5K TO REBUILD MY ENGINE AND I AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FROM TOYOTA AND PETITIONING TO HAVE MY MODEL AND OTHER TOYOTA MODELS WITH ENGINE OIL SLUDGE TO BE RECALLED. *JB
VEHICLE WAS OUT OF CONTROL DUE TO POSSIBLE STEERING FAILURE, RESULTING IN ACCIDENT. YH
I ASKED TOYOTA TO EXPLAIN WHY RACK & PINION NEEDED REPLACEMENT WITH ONLY 18,300 MILES ON CAR. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER BECAUSE OF STEERING PROBLEM. TOYOTA WRITTEN ANSWER WAS THAT CAR WAS OVER WARRANTY PERIOD OF 36 MONTHS AND IT WAS NOW MY RESPONSIBILITY. I HAD THE RACK & PINION REPLACED IN NOVEMBER AND THEN RECEIVED A RECALL FROM TOYOTA ON DEC 2, L999 THAT SAID A LOOSE NUT ON THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TO BE TIGHTED AND SHOULD BE BROUGHT IN TO THE DEALER. THE SYSTEMS DESCRIBED BY TOYOTA WERE THE SYMPTONS ABOUT STEERING I COMPLAINED ABOUT WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER.
WHEN FIRST PURCHASED VEHICLE IT HAD A MINOR ENGINE VIBRATION WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE WITH THE CAR ON AND IN DRIVE. THIS PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN CONSITENTNLY WORSE OVER TIME. THE ENGINE VIBRATION'S SEVERITY WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IN GEAR VARIES. IT CAN BE QUITE SEVERE AT TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THIS VIBRATION IS NORMAL ON ALL TOYOTA CAMRYS FROM 1992- 1995. THE VEHICLES TIMING BELT AND COMPLETE TUNEUP HAS BEEN DONE AND IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM HAS WORSENED. *AK
REAR LIGHT FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ALWAYS ILLUMINATED. MANUAL SAYS DEFECTIVE BULBS SHOULD BE REPLACES ASAP. WENT TO DEALER, NO BULBS BURNED OUT. DEALER BAFFLED, SAYS COULD BE A BOARD/CHIP PROBLEM, CANNOT OFFER ANSWER ON HOW TO FIX. WITH LIGHT CONSTANTLY O
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND TRAVELING ON WET SURFACE, PRESSED THE BRAKE AND PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, CAUSING A COLLISION . CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. *AK
REAR DOORS WOULD BE LEAKING ADHESIVE GLUE. ALSO, ADHESIVE GLUE WAS DRIPPING FROM REAR WINDOW/TRUNK AND INSIDE OF DOOR PANEL. HAS HAPPENED SINCE JULY. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHOOK, VIBRATED, AND THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE TO WEAR UNEVENLY ON THE INSIDE. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONTINUALLY HAVE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS AND REPLACE THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FIVE TIMES CONCERNING THE STEERING. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE ALIGNMENT, THE STEERING STILL PULLED TO THE RIGHT. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT 40MP. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING MINOR INJURIES. DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY FAILED CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND LIGHTING. MJS
THE VEHICLE'S IDLE SPEED AFTER MORNING START, IS VERY LOW BECAUSE THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE WAS STICKING. YH
THE LATCHES ON ALL FOUR DOORS HAVE BROKEN DUE TO WEAK PLASTIC. IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM, BUT A PASSENGER OF MINE, A CHILD, CUT HER FINGER ON THE EXPOSED METAL. I HAVE CALLED DEALERSHIPS TO GET THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED BUT HAVE JUST BEEN LAUGHED AT AND BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS TO BE SO, BECAUSE I HAVE PURCHASED TOYOTA VEHICLES IN THE PAST AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP BEFORE. THIS INCIDENT MAY DETER ME FROM BUYING ANOTHER TOYOTA VEHICLE IN THE FUTURE. CURRENTLY, I AM IN THE MARKET FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING STEERING WHEEL CAME OFF THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECTED, AND SAID IT HAD A LOOSE SCREW IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPING TO MAKE A U-TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL CAME OFF IN HAND, NO ACCIDENT OR INJURIES. *AK
WHILE STARTING VEHICLE UP IN THE MORNING THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE IGNITION AND WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED, THE BATTERY BLEW UP, CAUSING THE ENGINE THE FUSE BOX NEXT TO THE BATTERY TO BLOW UP ALSO. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
NOTE THAT MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WAS INCORRECT. THE STRUT DID NOT FAIL AS WAS ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED, THE GROMET JUST NEEDED OIL.
CONSUMER RECEIVED A SEATBELT RECALL ON HER 1987 CAMRY, BUT THE PROBLEM EXISTS ON HER 1995 CAMRY. SHE NEVER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR ANY SEATBELT PROBLEMS. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SHOULDER BELTS ARE TOO LOOSE, ARE NOT CLOSE TO THE BODY. SHOULDER BELT MAY NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANT IN AN ACCIDENT. NEVER TOOK TO A DEALER. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
RIGHT REAR STRUT FAILED AT ONLY 34000 MILES AND HAS TO BE REPLACED.
WIRES RUNNING FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE TO TRUNK GET BENT WHENEVER THE TRUNK IS CLOSED OR OPENED, CAUSING LOSS OF ALL REAR LIGHTS. WIRES EVENTUALLY BROKE. DESIGN FLAW. DEALER'S ONLY SOLUTION IS NOT TO USE THE TRUNK. *ML
WHILE WARMING UP THE VEHICLE THE STARTER CAUGHT ON FIRE. CONSUMER OPENED THE DOOR'S TO LET OUT THE SMOKE, AND CUT THE VEHICLE OFF. STARTED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE, AND THEN THE FIRE WENT OUT BY ITSELF. *AK
FOR NO APPARENT WHILE DRIVING OVER SOME GRAPEFRUIT SIZE ROCKS, COMING AROUND A CRUB, IN RAINY WEATHER, THE AIR BAG ON THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE DEPLOYED. THIS HAPPEN WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES DRIVING 45 MPH. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.
ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH FLUID LEAKING FROM DOOR FRAME. WHENEVER FLUID GETS ON A PERSON'S SKIN IT CAUSES IT TO BURN. DEALER NOTIFIED, INFORMING CONSUMER THAT THEY NEED TO CLEAN THE RUBBER WITH PAINT THINNER WHEN NEEDED. CAN NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER. *AK *YC
ONE TIRE WAS LOSING AI., MECHANIC STATES ALL FOUR TIRES WERE UNSAFE, TIRE IS GENERAL TIRE 1957014. TIRES WERE ON THE CAR WHEN PURCHASED. AT 20,000 MILES TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. WENT TO PULL VEHICLE OVER WHEN STEERING WHEEL CAME OFF, CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK
ALTHOUGH I HAD TIMELY OIL AND FLUID CHANGES AND INSPECTIONS, THE TECHNICIANS REPORTED I HAD OIL SLUDGE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. WITHOUT NOTICE, IN NOV, 2002, CAR SUDDENLY OVERHEATED. SYMPTOMS WERE SMOKING AND LEAKY RADIATOR. DURING INSPECTION TECH NOTED: "VEHICLE HAS ALOT OF SLUDGE IN VALVE COVER/ OIL DRAINS SLOWLY & OVER FLOWS W/FILLED TOO FAST."
BATTERY EXPLODED CAUSING DAMAGE TO BUMPER OF VEHICLE FROM ACID.
DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S DOOR LOCKS BROKE DUE TO A PLASTIC DESIGN WHICH CRACKED ON A EVERYDAY WEAR AND TEAR IN EVIN INJURIES. *AK
THE VEHICLE SPINNED ON THE FREEWAY FROM HARD BRAKING TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE THE FIRST INCIDENT AND FROM GENTLE BRAKING THE SECOND INCIDENT.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BRIGHTNESS TOO LOW, ESPECIALLY UNDER NIGHT/RAIN CONDITIONS. CONSIDERED EXTREMELY LIKELY TO CAUSE EVENTUAL NIGHT COLLISION, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVER IS INEXPERIENCED OR OLDER ADULT.
HEAD LIGHTS FAILED.
VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP IN TIME, STOPPING DISTANCE IS NOT AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD BE. CONTACTED DEALER,AND DEALER CHANGED CALIPERS/ DRUMS, AND MASTER CYLINDER. *AK
THE BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE AND A STEEL TO STEEL NOISE. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE PROBLEM. *AK

BRAKE SYSTEM CONTINUALLY EXPERIENCING NOISE, REPLACEMENT OF THE PADS AND ROTORS DO NOT RECTIFY PROBLEMS, SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED FOR BRAKE SYSTEM. MJS
CARS BRAKES SQUEEL DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND STEPPING ON THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES MAKE A GRINDING SOUND, AND THE DRIVER IS VERY CONCERNED ON SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THIS IS HOW THE BRAKES SUPPOSE TO SOUND WHEN APPLYING THEM. *AK
