ON 6-16-01, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I WASN'T ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO STOP IT, I HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT FROM. IT HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE. I FOUND OUT TODAY THAT THE WATER PUMP FROZE UP ON IT AND BROKE THE TIMING BELT. THE SALESMAN WHO SOLD ME MY CAR TOLD ME THAT HE HAS HEARD OF MANY OWNERS OF THE CAMRY WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I'M EXPERIENCING. HE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR IS PRETTY MUCH UNSAFE, SO I TRADED IT IN AND BOUGHT A COROLLA TODAY. I HAD NO INTENTION OF TRADING IN MY CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF TOYTOA KNEW ABOUT THE FAILED WATER PUMP/TIMING BELT IN THEIR CAMRYS'. AND IF SO, WHY DIDN'T THEY LET THE PUBLIC KNOW ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS THIS COULD BE? I LEASED MY CAMRY AND TOYOTA IS MAKING ME PAY FOR REMAINDER OF THE LEASE. THEREFORE, I AM PAYING TWO CAR NOTES. I WOULD LIKE FOR THEM TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE MONEY I LOST IN THIS DEAL.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A LONG DISTANCE DRIVE, MY 6 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER WAS IN THE REAR LEFT SEAT WITH HER SEAT BELT ON. SHE PULLED THE SEAT BELT ALL THE WAY OUT TO LAY DOWN AND TAKE A NAP WHILE RESTRAINED IN THE SEAT BELT. WHILE ASLEEP SHE HAD TAKEN HER HAND OUT OF HER SEAT BELT AND THE SEAT BELT WAS WRAPED AROUND HER WAIST. WHEN SHE WOKE UP, IN ORDER TO FREE HERSELF FORM THE WRAPED SEAT BELT, SHE UNBUCKLED HER SEAT BELT WHILE THE SEAT BELT WAS STILL WRAPPED AROUND HER, THIS IS WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPEND. THE SEATBELT'S RETRACTION SYSTEM ONLY RETRACTED THE SEAT BELT IN, MAKING IT TIGHER AND TIGHTER AROUND HER STOMACH. THE RETRACTION SYSTEM DID NOT LET HER LOOSEN THE SEAT BELT. IN FURTHER EFFORT TO FREE HERSELF, SHE LIFTED HERSELF AND THE SEATBET BECAME TIGHER AROUND HER STOMACH. I PULLED ALONG THE HIGHWAY TO FREE HER FROM THE SEATBELT, BUT THE RETRACTION SYSTEM DID NOT ALLOW ME TO GET THE SEAT BELT LOOSE. I DID NOT HAVE ANY POCKET KNIFE WITH ME TO CUT THE SEAT BELT. I FINALLY FLAGED A MOTARIST WHO HAD A POCKET KNIFE AND CUT THE SEAT BELT AND FREED HER. THE SEAT BELT HAD BECOME SO TIGHT THAT SHE HAD GOTTON INJURED ALL AROUND HER WAIST AND STOMACH. IF THIS HAD HAPPEND WITH A SMALLER CHILD IT COULD HAVE EASILY KILED THE CHILD IF NOT HELPED IN TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH CONSUMER HIT EDGE OF A BRIDGE HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25MPH ON A SIDE STREET TRAVELING ONTO ANOTHER STREET,AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, VEHICLE TOOK OFF AND HIT TWO VEHICLES. CONSUMER HAD FEET ON BRAKES, AND VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK CONSUMER ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM A YEAR AGO, HOWEVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP VEHICLE, FOR THIS LAST ACCIDENT, DEALER REPLACED GASKET AND CLEANED THROTTLE BODY. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING, THE INSURED SMELL SMOKE, THE INSURED THEN PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE THE SMOKE SMELL AND DISCOVERED THAT FLAMES WERE COMING UP TO THE WINDSHIELD.*JB(CLAIM#11-3646-015)

DRIVER SEAT BROKE INTO A RECLINING POSITION DURING REAR IMPACT COLLISION - AFTER BEING PUSHED INTO TWO OTHER VEHICLES, FOR FRONT END IMPACT, NEITHER NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED - I AM CONCERNED THAT HAD THE VEHICLE IMPACTED ME HARDER AND COME INTO THE BACK SEAT A LITTLE MORE, THE RECLINING DRIVER SEAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN SEVERE HEAD INJURIES IF NOT WORSE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
01/2001 - 03/2001 4 WHEEL ABS. INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCE OF THE FOLLOWING: ABS FUNCTIONING OR BRAKES OPERATING WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. NOTICE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, CAR STARTS TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY FROM UNNEEDED BRAKING. THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY AS DRIVING CONTINUES. AFTER 1 INCIDENT TOOK CAR TO A REPAIR STATION BECAUSE I NEEDED TO APPLY THE GAS PEDAL TO GO DOWN HILL TO KEEP CAR GOING AT SPEED LIMIT (WHERE USUALLY CAR WILL ROLL AT SPEED LIMIT). CAR PUT ON RACKS AND FOUND BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY HOT. ALL WHEELS COULD NOT BE HAND TURNED. AFTER BRAKES COOLED PROBLEM WAS ABLE TO DRIVE CAR NORMALLY. HAD 4 OCCURRENCES OF THIS IN LAST 3 MONTHS. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR. DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO SENSE IS TAKING THINGS APART WHEN THERE WERE NO SYMPTOMS. 03/2001 TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER 3 WEEKS LATER. LATEST EXPERIENCE WAS THAT BRAKES WERE NOW FAILING. PEDAL WENT LOW WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. DEALER SAID BRAKE FLUID WAS CONTAMINTATED AND WARRANTY IS NOW VOID. DEALER MENTIONED THAT 1 WEEK EARLIER ANOTHER CAR CAME IN WITH CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID. DEALER SAYS THAT DUE TO CONTAMINATION, THEY NEED TO REPLACE ALMOST ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM (CALIPERS, LINES, MASTER, ABS SENSORS) THIS WAS ESTIMATED AT OVER $3,000. TOLD DEALER TO TRY AND ONLY FLUSH BRAKE FLUID. HE SAID COULD DO THIS BUT THEY WOULD ALSO NEED TO REPLACE THE MASTER SINCE BRAKE PEDAL WAS GOING LOW. DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THEY (TOYOTA) WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRAKE FAILURE THAT OCCURRED FOLLOWING THIS COMPROMISED REPAIR ALTERNATIVE. DEALER CALLED LATER AND SAID FRONT ROTORS ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY ARE BEYOND TOLERANCE FOR RESURFACING. AGREED TO THE CHANGE. (TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS: $1,000) 09/2001 THE CAR OPERATED FINE FOR ALMOST SIX MONTHS. NOTICE THAT AT AROUND THE 60 MPH RANGE, VIBRATION STARTS TO OCCUR. APPEARS TO BE THE EARLY SYMPTOMS OF THE ABS STARTING TO FUNCTION WITHOUT DEPRESSING BRAKES (AGAIN). IMO PROBLEM IS THE ABS STARTING TO FUNCTION BY ITSELF. PROBLEM STOPPED *
CONSUMER WAS AT A STOP SIGN, VEHICLEACCELERATED FORWARD WHEN TAKING FOOT OFF BRAKE, WHEN PLACING FOOT BACK ON BRAKE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARD. DAMAGES WERE DONE TO A VEHICLE IN BACK AND TO THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE AS WELL. DEALER FOUND NOTHING TO BE WRONG WITH CABLE. AIR BAG LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS COME ON APPROXIMATELY 8 TIMES. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE FOR THIS PROBLEM. *AK *JB
THIS PROBLEM INVOLVES THE BUILDUP OF OIL SLUDGE IN THE 1998-2001 TOYOTA V6 PRODUCTS. APPARETNLY THEY REDESIGNED THE V6 ENGINE SO THAT IT WOULD FIT IN THE SIENNA VAN. IN DOING SO THEY CREATED A DESIGN FLAW THAT CREATES SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. APPARENTLY THE DESIGN FLAW CAUSES THE ENGINE TO RUN TO HOT ALSO CAUSING VALVE SEALS TO LEAK. THE RESULT IS A FAIRLY NEW CAR THAT SMOKES, BURNS 1 QUART OF OIL A WEEK, AND BUILDS UP SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE WHICH I AM TOLD WILL RUIN THE ENGINE IF I KEEP DRIVING WITH SLUDGE BUILD UP BECAUSE THE ENGINE WON'T BE LUBRICATED PROPERLY. MANY OTHERS ARE REPORTING THIS SLUDGE PROBLEM. IN THE 1999 OWNERS MANUEL IT SAYS YOU CAN CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 7500 MILES. WHICH PEOPLE DID. THESE CUSTOMERS THAT FOLLOWED THIS GUIDE LINE INSTEAD OF THE 3000-5000 MILE OIL CHANGES WHICH SHOULD BE RECOMMENDED NOW HAVE OIL SLUDGE. I CALLED MY HONDA SERVICE REP WHO TOLD ME TOYOTA HAS A FIX FOR THE OVERHEATING PROBLEM WHICH THEY DO NOT WANT THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO KNOW ABOUT BECAUSE THAN THEY WILL HAVE TO FIX THOUSANDS OF CARS. HE SAID THE ENGINE DOES NOT BREATH PROPERLY AND THAT THEY HAVE AN UPGRADE TO THE BREATHER - THE POSITIVE CRANK CASE?? HE SAID IF I CAN PROVE TO TOYOTA SUCH AN UPGRADE IS AVAILABLE THEY WILL FIX IT BUT WILL DENY ANY KNOWLEDGE OTHERWISE. I SUBMIT THAT TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE GOTTEN SLUDGE FROM THIS DEFECT WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE FORCED TO DO A RECALL AND INSTALL THE UPGRADED PART SO THAT THEIR ENGINES BREATHE PROPERLY. TOYOTA REFUSES TO HONOR MY WARRANTY ON REPLACING THE VALVE SEALS AND RINGS WHICH WILL COST ME ABOUT $3200. THE LEAST THEY COULD DO IS INSTALL THE FIX INTO MY ENGINE SO IF I DO GET IT FIXED IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. TOYOTA HAS CHANGED THEIR 2001 OWNERS MANUEL TELLING PEOPLE TO CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 5000 MILES SO THEY KNOW THE DIRECTION TO CHANGE IT EVERY 7500 MILES WILL NOT WORK FOR THEI ESITB BECAUSE I HAVE SLUDGE AND T OF LYD THGIT OTHERWISE. THE BRAKE PADS, REAR DRUMS/ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON A TOYOTA CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE. THE REPAIR PERSON INQUIRED AS TO WHETHER I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON BECAUSE THE ROTORS/DRUMS WERE" MELTED." WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED, THERE IS A VERY LOUD GROANING NOISE.*AK
HAVE TO ACTUALLY GO BACK TO DEALER 4 TIMES IN ONE YEAR FOR THE SAME ISC VALVE PROBLEM, EVERYTIME THIS VALVE GO WRONG MY CAR WILL NOT START!! I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED SO OFTEN! COST $370 FOR THE VALVE. DT
BRAKES SQUEAK/ PULL TO LEFT AND WARP. ALSO, CD PLAYER DOESN'T WORK, HAD 4 CDS REPLACED/ SPRINGS IN SIDE OF SUN ROOF ARE BROKEN AND MAKE NOISES, AND REGULATOR REPLACED INSIDE OF WINDOWS. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEMS. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED AT 9000 AND 27000 MILES, EACH TIME ROTORS ARE TURNED THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. WINDSHILED HAS A FILM LIKE COVERING WHICH MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF. GOODYEAR TIRE P205/65R15, DOT M6URREDR228 WORE OUT PREMATURELY. *SLC
I OWN A 1999 CAMRY AND I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION FOR YEARS NOW. WHENEVER I GET IN THE CARI CHECK THE FLOOR MAT TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT WEDGED UP AGAINST THE GAS PEDAL, BEFORE I EVEN START THE CAR OR PUT ON MY SEAT BELT. I WAS CONCERNED WHEN I SAW THAT ONLY MODEL YEARS 2000 AND LATER WERE RECALLED. THERE ARE A LOT OF CAMRIES FROM 1999 AND BEFORE ON THE ROADS AS IT WAS THE NO. 1 SEDAN IN THE US STARTING AROUND 1996. *TR
BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING OUT PREMATURELY. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED THE BRAKES MAKE A LOUD VIBRATING NOISE WITH POOR STOOPING EFFECT. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS HIGHWAY YET THE BRAKE WEAR OUT AS IF I APPLY THEM CONSTANTLY. DEALER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT BRAKE WEAR HAS BEEN ERRACTIC WITH CAR, YET ALL THEY RECOMMEND IS REPLACING BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACING THE ROTORS EVERY 10000 TO 15000 MILES. I'VE REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS TWICE SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND NEED TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN SOON SINCE THEY ARE WORN AGAIN. IN GENERAL, THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHCLE FUNCTION POOR AT BEST WITH PREMATURE WEAR OUT OF BRAKE PADS AND DRUMS.*AK
ABS TOO SENSITIVE FOR ROAD CONDITIONS. SLIGHTEST VARIATION IN ROAD CONDITION CAUSES ABS SYSTEM TO GO INTO PANIC MODE BRAKING. ON MANY OCCASIONS THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP BECAUSE OF ROAD WAS WET UNDER ONE TIRE AND NOT THE OTHER. CURRENT WINTER CONDITONS CAUSE ABS SYSTEM TO BRAKE ERRATICLY EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE BRAKES TO BE PULSATING LIKE THEY DO OR FOR THE BRAKES TO VIBRATE SO LOUD TO CAUSE THE DRIVER TO PANIC . I DREAD DRIVING THIS CAR FOR I DON'T KNOW HOW THE BRAKING SYSTEM WILL REACT. *AK
BRAKE PROBLEMS EMERGED PRIOR TO BEING TOLD THAT POWER BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER WERE BAD. ALSO, HAD NO BRAKE PADS, AND HAD TO HAVE ROTORS TURNED. VEHICLE AT DEALER FOR REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. *AK
SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED THE BRAKE PEDAL ON MANY OCCASIONS HAS DROPPED TO THE FLOOR PAN FO NO APPEARANT REASON. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AT BOTH HIGHWAY SPEED AND IN-CITY SPEEDS. I HAVE TO PUMP THE PEDAL A FEW TIMES FOR IT TO MAINTAIN BRAKE PRESSURE. IF I KEEP MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL LONG ENOUGH IT EVENTUALLY DROPS. *AK
THE UNRELIABLE BRAKES ON MY CAR ARE MY GRAVEST CONCERN OF THE SEVERAL PROBLEMS IVE HAD. THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR BEGAN ONLY ONE MONTH INTO OWNERSHIP. THESE PROBLEMS WERE MOSTLY CORRECTED BY A REWIRE THAT WAS DONE IN OCTOBER 1999. OCCASIONALLY, THOUGH, A WINDOW WONT OPEN STILL. THE BRAKES FIRST FAILED IN THE WINTER OF 00-01, AND I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR, SINCE THE PROBLEM RARELY OCCURRED. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND PRONOUNCED, HOWEVER. EVENTUALLY IN JULY 2001, I SLID THROUGH AN INTERSECTION ON A HOT SUNNY DAY ON DRY ROADS. I WAS CONVINCED THE CAR WAS NOT PERFORMING PROPERLY. AT THIS POINT (AUGUST 2001), IT IS UNSTEADY ENOUGH ON GOOD ROADS THAT I BRAKE WITH EXTREME CAUTION AT ALL TIMES. TWICE, NOW, IN THE LAST WEEK THE ABS HAS ENGAGED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGED ONCE DURING ACCELERATION, ONCE WHEN COMPLETING A STOP (THAT STARTED AT ABOUT 15 MPH). THE THIRD DEALERSHIP I CONTACTED LISTENED TO THE PROBLEM CAREFULLY AND THEN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE CAR WAS PERFORMING EXACTLY AS DESIGNED, AND THIS SAFETY FEATURE (THE ABS) WAS DESIGNED TO PROTECT FROM LOSS OF CONTROL. I CAN CERTAINLY CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE CAR WELL WHEN ITS SKIDDING, BUT I CONSIDER THE ABILITY TO REDUCE SPEED AN EQUALLY IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF CONTROL. IF A CHILD ON A TRICYCLE CROSSED UNEXPECTEDLY IN FRONT OF ME, I AM ALMOST CERTAIN THE CAR COULD NOT BE STOPPED IN TIME TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, NO MATTER HOW SLOWLY I WAS GOING. THE ABS TAKES OVER EVEN AT VERY LOW SPEEDS (0-15MPH), TRIPLING MY STOPPING DISTANCE ON THE DRIEST, SMOOTHEST ROADS. I KNOW THIS WOULD BE A COMPELLING SUIT COMING FROM THE ATTORNEY OF A CRIPPLE, BUT I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN BEING SAFE AND ALIVE. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE, AND I AM EXASPERATED AT TOYOTAS REFUSAL TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM REAR AT 50 MPH, PUSHING VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER VEHCLE IN FRONT. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIR BAR DEPLOYED. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK FRONT AND REAR ENDS OF TH VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERABLY DAMAGE DURING THE ACCIDENT AND PASSENGER WAS INJURED. *YH

WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 5-10 MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION,AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, AND MANUFACTURER GAVE CONSUMER TELEPHONE NUMBER TO THEIR ATTORNEY. *AK
I AM A LITTLE DISPLEASED WITH MY 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY. I BOUGHT IT AS A CERTIFIED USED CAR WITH 19,300 MILES. ALREADY, I HAVE SHELLED OUT 450.00 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ROTORS, DISC PADS, AND ASSEMBLY. THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW HAD FAILED BEFORE, AND I HAD THEM REPLACE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY. THE DASH LIGHTS JUST FAILED RECENTLY, AS WELL AS ONE OF THE REAR LIGHTS BURNED OUT IN NOV. I LOGGED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CUST. SERVICE CENTER, BUT I STILL FEEL THAT THIS CAR IS A LEMON. WHAT NEW 1999 CAR WITH 30,000 MILES HAS HAD THIS MANY FAILURES? PLEASE SEND ME ANY OTHER INFO THAT MIGHT PERTAIN TO THIS, OR ANY INFO YOU HEAR BACK. ITR WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I DON'T WANT TO BE TAKING MY CAR IN FOR MAJOR SERVICE EVERY YEAR!!!
VEHICLE HAS AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM, IT'S TAKEN IN APPROXIMATELY EVERY 10,000 MILES TO BE ADJUSTED. FRONT ALIGNMENT ON PASSENGER'S SIDE ALWAYS GOES BAD FIRST, THEN ON DRIVER'S SIDE. DEALER THINKS IT'S CONSUMERS DRIVING, AND DOES NOT SEE IT AS A PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED ON, ENGINE FAILS TO START AND "ENGINE LIGHT" COMES ON. MANUAL SAYS WHEN THIS HAPPENS TAKE IT TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY PATTERN AND MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR A WEEK OR TWO. I TOOK IT TO STEVENS CREEK TOYOTA, 4202 STEVENS CREEK BLVD, SAN JOSE, CA 95129. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. WARRANTY NOT COMPLIED WITH BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. SOMETIMES IT TAKES 3 -5 TRIES BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTS. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT ENGINE CHECK LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER ON FOURTEEN OCCASIONS, AND IS STILL AT THE DEALER. *AK
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM THE FRONT AND REAR, HOWEVER THE AIRBAGS EXPERIENCED NO DEPLOYMENT. *SLC
WHEN VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED IN A CRASH, HIT ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FIRST, VEHICLE CHANGED DIRECTION AND HIT A POLE HEAD-ON. THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF FRONTAL OR SIDE AIR BAGS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
ON THREE OCCASIONS 10/27/00,01/15/01, AND 3/19/01 THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURED WITH MY VEHICLE. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE DEALER FOR THE 3RD TIME. ON THE FIRST OCCASION THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM FOUND AND THAT THEY CLEARED THE CODE. ON THE SECOND OCCASION THE DEALER DECLARED ON PAPER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR. ON THIS OCCASION THEY REPLACED THE COIL PACK. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALER YET REGARDING THE ISSUES CURRENTLY AT HAND. ON ALL 3 OCCASIONS THE CAR HAS DIED. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH AND THE CAR HAS DIED. I HAVE GONE TO TURN A CORNER AND THE CAR HAS DIED. I HAVE GONE THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND THE CAR HAS DIED. WHEN I GO TO START THE CAR THERE IS NO POWER AND THE MAXIMUM SPEED I CAN DRIVE IS APPROXIMATELY 15MPH. BOTH TIMES I HAVE ALMOST GOT INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT DO TO THIS PROBLEM. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE RODE.*AK
THE ENGINE IN MY V-6 TOYOTA FORMED SO MUCH SLUDGE THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RUN EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MFG RECOMENDATIONS AND THE MFG WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS UNDER THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. *AK
BRAKES HAVE WORN OUT EVERY 3,000 MILES. BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE RERPLACED BY DEALERSHIP. BRAKES WENT OUT AGAIN, AND DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACED THEM.*AK
THERE IS A SQEAK COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN I GO OVER SMALL BUMPS/DIPS IN THE ROAD. TOYOTA RECOMMENDED THE REPLACEMENT OF TIE RODS, WHICH DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THE NOISE CONTINUES AND HAS INCREASED IN SEVERITY. THE AIR CONDITIONER SMELLS WHEN USING IT. IT SMELLS LIKE MOLD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, BUT ALL THEY DO IS SPRAY IT WITH FRIGI-FRESH, WHICH ONLY MASKS THE SMELL FOR A SHORT WHILE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIAMETLY 35 M.P.H., WHEN BRAKES WERE PRESSED THEY WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR RESULTING IN A REAR END CRASH. THE AIR BAGS AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT DID NOT WORK. THE CRASH WAS REPORTED TO THE POLICE AND INSURANCE COMPANY. THE INSPECTOR STATED THAT THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT WAS OK. THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER, FROZEN CALIPERS AND BRAKE PADS BECAUSE OF UNEVEN WEAR. THE INJURED PASSENGER SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND SPRAINED WRISTS.
WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED IN A PANIC STOP, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE WHICH CAUSED A COLLISION/ MINOR INJURIES. UPON INSPECTION OF VEHICLE BY THE DEALER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT CALIPERS WERE DEFECTIVE. DEALER HAS REPLACED ROTORS/PADS AND CALIPERS.*AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THERE WAS A BRAKE FAILURE, DEALER FOUND THE CALIPERS TO BE DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS, IN THE ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAGS EXPERIENCED NO DEPLOYMENT AND THE SEATBELTS DID NOT WORK, PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *SLC
MULTIPLE TIMES CAR WILL NOT START. THE ONLY TIME FIALED AT DEALER SUSPECT PART WAS THE ALARM SYSTEM. REPLACED ALARM BUT PROBLEM CAN BACK 9 MONTHS LATER.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES THEY GRIND AND MAKE NOISE. DEALER REPLACED PADS. BUT, GRINDING SOUND PERSISTED. DEALER ADJUSTED BRAKES, STILL NOISY. CURRENTLY, DEALER SAID THAT ALL TOYOTAS DO THAT, AND THEY COULD REPLACE BRAKES WITH AFTER MARKET BRAKES TO REMEDY PROBLEM. *AK

DRIVING FROM HOME WHEN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WAS PURCHASED AT 29500 AND CHARCOAL CANISTER NEEDED REPLACING WITH ONLY 35000. *AK
WHEN PUT IN PARK, AND BEFORE CONSUMER SHUTS OFF ENGINE, VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD, HAPPEND 3 TIMES, ONCE IT WENT THROUGH A GARAGE DOOR. DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK
PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR, NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE. ENGINE WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY REV- WITHOUT ACCELERATOR BEING TOUCHED. AFTER A 2 HOUR REST PERIOD THE CAR WAS AGAIN DRIVEN THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE RPM WOULD REV WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR BEING PUSHED, AFTER ABOUT 50 FEET THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD SOMETIMES ENGAGE THE ENGINE SO WE WERE ABLE TO TRAVEL A SHORT DISTANCE. IT WAS UNPREDICTABLE AS TO WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WOULD WORK. IT WOULD SOMETIMES KICK IN WHILE THE RPM'S WERE REVING AND THE CAR WOULD JERK FORWARD. I FELT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AS WE WERE SHUTTING THE CAR OFF TO LOAD IT ON THE TOW TRUCK WHEN THECAR WAS SHUT OFF, AND THE KEYS WERE STILL IN THE IGNITION, THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS REPEATEDLY WENT OFF- IN A RAPID MOTION ABOUT 20 TIMES UNTIL THE KEYS WERE REMOVED. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER. *AK

FRONT DISC BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN 13 MONTHS OF PURCHASE OF NEW AUTO. COMPLAINED OF NOISE EST. 6 MONTHS BEFORE. WEAR NOSIE NOTICED AT 21500 MILES
THE POWER WINDOWS IN THE FRONT ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES GO OFF TRACK AND WILL NOT COME DOWN. MY DEALER SAID THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME ON THE 1999 CAMRYS BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS IN THE NORTH EAST IN BAD WEATHER. IT ALSO MAKES US VULNERABLE TO A CAR JACKING OR THEFT. MY DEALER SAID HE FIXED BUT WINDOWS BUT IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. WHY DOESN'T THE GOVERNMENT ORDER A RECALL. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY WARRENTY IS OVER? THERE IS A REAL DESIGN DEFECT WITH THESE CARS, SO WHY ISN'T SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS? WHAT ABOUT THE HOURS ON END THAT I MUST WASTE WAITING FOR REPAIRS AND THE LOST HOURS OF WORK. WHO IS SUPPOSE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR LOST PAY?*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30MPH IN A INTERSECTION AND HAD THE RIGHT AWAY, ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS TURNING AND VEERED INTO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF. MECHANIC OF A PRIVATE STATION TOLD HER THAT THERE WERE BAD SENSORS INSIDE OF AIRBAGS, AND THAT WAS WHY AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF.*AK
OIL LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK TO STATION ADDED OIL, HAD OIL CHANGED W/I 2 DAYS TOLD PCV VALVE BAD, HAD CHANGED, CAR SMOKED, TOOK TO DEALER TOLD OIL IN VALVES COULD HAVE BEEN ANTIFREEZE IN OIL OR WHEN TOLD OIL WAS CHANGED IT WAS NOT, MAUNFACTURE SAYS IMPROPER MAINTANCE WILL ONLY COVER $1000 OF APPROX. $4000 REPAIR. OIL CHANGED AT LEAST EVERY 7500 AS RECOM. IN MANUAL. SHOULD BE FULLY COVERED BY WARRANTY. *AK
