FOUR TIMES IN FOR PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR, TWO TIMES IN FOR VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THREE TIMES FOR WARPED ROTORS THAT SEEM TO BE HAPPENING EVERY 8000 MILES.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 55MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, SHE APPLIED GAS PEDAL TO SPEED UP, AND VEHICLE STARTED TO ROAR AND SLOWDOWN. CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, BUT VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS HIT BY ONCOMING TRUCK. VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR A MONTH AND A HALF. MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER THAT SHE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. *AK
THIS CAR IS A LEMON. I HAVE HAD FIVE INTEGRATED RELAY'S REPLACED AND NOW IT IS OUT AGAIN. THE HEADLIGHT OR THE DASH LIGHTS WILL WORK, BUT NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. TOYOTA SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD A NON-FACTORY ALARM INSTALLED. THEY REPLACED THE ALARM WITH A TOYOTA ALARM AND REPLACED THE RELAY AND IT BURNED OUT THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS HAD A MUSTY SMELL SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. THEY SPRAY THE VENTS WITH "FRIGI FRESH" AND IT'S FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE SMELL RETURNS. THEY TOLD ME TO SPRAY SIMPLE GREEN IN THE AIR INTAKE ONCE A WEEK. THAT'S A PRETTY POOR REMEDY. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT HOLD ON ANY INCLINE. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL PULL INTO THE GARAGE BY IT SELF AND OTHER TIMES IT WILL ROLL INTO THE STREET. IT DEPENDS ON IT'S MOOD. THE CAR LACK POWER. SOME DAYS THE CAR IS PEPPY BUT MOST DAYS IT'S A OLD MULE. I WENT THROUGH ARBITRATION AND TOYOTA JUST KEEPS REPLACING PARTS INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE CAR. IT'S SITS IN THE GARAGE NOW BECAUSE IS NOT DEPENDABLE. I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE AN IN-DEPTH INVESTIGATION AND RECALL OF THE 1999 CAMRY.*AK

ENGINE SLUDGE ISSUE CONTINUES EVEN AFTER REPAIR AND PROPER MAINTENANCE. *AK
VEHICLE STRUCK A UTILITY POLE HEAD-ON AT 50 MPH. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO INJURIES WAS REPORTED. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ADDTIONAL DETAILS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING WEST BOUND ON 84 50MPH IN THE MIDDLE LANE, A 1989 HONDA IMPACTED CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON FRONT WHEEL ON PASSENGER'S SIDE, DRAGGED VEHICLE INTO A CONCRETE WALL. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CONTACTED DEALER . *AK *ML
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT 45MPH, AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO, SEAT BELT DID NOT RETRACT, RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
A RATTLING NOISE IS COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE CAR. ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO REPAIR IT INCLUDING REPLACING ALL STRUTS. NOISE HAS BEEN NOTICEABLE SINCE THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 32,000 MILES. MUCH MONEY WASTED ON INEFFECTIVE REPAIRS. RATTLE CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH CONSUMER HYDROPLANED INTO A SPIN AND HIT A WALL HEAD-ON, CONSUMER WAS THROWN FROM THE WALL INTO A TRACTOR TRAILOR. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER SAID CONSUMER DID NOT HIT HARD ENOUGH. *AK
WHILE MAKING A TURN AT A LIGHT SIGNAL ANOTHER DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT AND HIT THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR AT THE LEFT FRONT AIR BAG CENSOR AT ABOUT 50-57 MPH. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK *ML

FRONT SEAT PADDING ON THE BACK REST IS MATTED DOWN, RESULTING IN BACKSIDE GETS INTO BOTTOM CLOSURE OF SEAT, WHICH IRRITATES WHILE DRIVING
STRUTS HAVE A DIMINISHED CAPACITY, CAUSING VEHICLE TO BOUNCE. NOISE DIES DOWN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND BOTTOMS OUT . DEALER HAS INSPECTED VEHICLE ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL AND BODY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40 AND ABOVE/ GROWNING NOISE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT MODERATE SPEEDS. *AK
CONSUMER STATED BRAKES WOULD MAKE A GRINDING SOUND AND PULSATE AFTER DRIVING FOR AWHILE, VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS CONCERNING THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS, AS WELL AS FRONT AND REAR BRAKES, DUE TO THEM BEING WORN.*JB
WHEN DRIVING AND UPON DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE A NORMAL STOP PEDAL TRAVELED TO FLOORBOARD, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. ALSO, CONSUMER HEARD NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END. FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE EXPERIENCING EXCESSIVE WEAR. *AK THE BRAKE PADS FAILED AT 12000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 16200 MILES. THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT BRAKE SAFETY ON LONG TRIPS. *YH
SPECKS IN WINDSHIELD ARE CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY AND ND AFFECTING CONSUMER EYES WHILE DRIVING DURING THE DAY. DEALER CONTACTED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFROMATION.*AK
THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHENEVER YOU TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. SOMETIMES IT EVEN ILLUMINATES AT ACCELERATION. *AK

THE CAR IS PRODUCING HEAT, BUT SOMEHOW OBSTRUCTED TO GET INTO THE CAR. SO IS IS FREEZING FOR THE FIRST 10-15 MINUTES INTO THE TRIP. I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM. WHAT SHOULD I DO ? *AK
THE REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM FAILS TO WORK. IT DOES NOT PERMIT ACCESS TO THE CAR OR IT LEAVES THE CAR UNLOCKED. SINCE THIS IS A RANDOM FAILURE THE CAR BECAMES EXTREAMLY UNSAFE FOR MY WIFE TO PARK AT WORK.*AK
TOYOTA HAS LONG IGNORED SAFETY IN FAVOR OF SHOW. OUR 1999 CAMRY HAS A KEY FOB WITH THREE BUTTONS, ONLY ONE WORKING. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE 'SECURITY' SYSTEM (1) KEEPS THE ENGINE FROM STARTING AND, (2) MORE OMINOUSLY, LOCKS US OUT OF THE CAR. MY DAUGHTER, WITH HER BABY, STARTED THE CAR, STEPPED OUT TO LET IT COOL IN THE PHOENIX SUMMER, AND WAS LOCKED OUT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS CLOSE AND, FORTUNATELY, SHE TOOK HER BABY OUT WITH HER. OVER THE YEARS, I'VE ASKED TOYOTA TO FIX ITS SECURITY MESS. NOTHING BUT MILD APOLOGIES. THIS ENDANGERMENT HAS PLAGUED ME AND MY FAMILY FOR 10 YEARS. TOYOTA'S RECKLESSNESS AND ALOOFNESS SHOULD BE PUNISHED SEVERELY AND THE COMPANY MUST BEGIN TO PRODUCE NOTHING BUT RELIABLE CARS THAT DON'T ENDANGER ITS CUSTOMERS. *JB
REAR STRUT IS CAUSING VEHICLE TO ACT UP. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS 3/4 FULL, VEHICLE WILL MAKE A THUMPING SOUND. ESPECIALLY WHEN BACKING UP & ACCELERATING. DEALER KNOWS OF PROBLEM. *AK
I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN SEPTEMBER 1998. ON DECEMBER 13, 1999 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THAT MORNING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE, I-285 EAST, IT WAS AROUND 7:30 AM AND TRAFFIC WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER. TRAFFIC BEGAN MOVING AND I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES AND I HIT HIM. THE NOSE OF MY CARE WAS SMASHED SO HARD THAT THE HOOD CRUMPLED INTO A TEPEE AND WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE GLASS TO CRACK. I COULDN'T OPEN MY DOORS BECAUSE THE IMPACT HAD PUSHED THE DOORS BACK SO THEY OVERLAPPED THE BACK QUARTER PANELS AND WERE JAMMED. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. THIS WAS A DEAD ON FRONT IMPACT ACCIDENT IN A PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW CAR AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE INCH OF THE FRONT END THAT DIDN'T TAKE THE IMPACT SO THERE IS NO WAY IT "MISSED THE SENSORS". THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR ENDED UP BEING OVER $10,000.00. THE AIRBAGS SERIOUSLY MALFUNCTIONED AND I WAS LUCKY THAT I WASN'T INJURED.*JB
I HAVE RETURNED MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERS ON FOUR OCCASIONS,THREE TIMES FOR A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND BODY, TOYOTA HAS TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE AND PROCEDED TO PUT USED TIRES FROM A DEMO WITH 5000 MILES ON TO MY VEHICLE, I THEN LOST THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY DUE TO PUMP FAILURE.I TOLD TOYOTA I WOULD FILE FOR ARBITRATION AND THEY TOLD ME WHEN THEY RECEIVE THE FORMS THEY WILL THEN TRY FOUR NEW TIRES AND RIMS AS A LAST TIME REPAIR. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH TOYOTA AND BELIEVE IF THIS VIBRATION IS NORMAL THEN TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND MAKE NECESSARY REPAIRS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH VEHICLE HAD A DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT. DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHICH DID NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANTS IN THIS CRASH. *AK
DRIVER & PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW MAKES RATTLING/BUMPING SOUNDS WHEN OPENED OR CLOSED . ALSO, WHEN CAR IS CARRYING 4 ADULTS. THE VEHICLE SUSPENSION SAGS TO A POINT WHERE THE TAIL PIPE AND POSSIBLY THE FUEL TANK, OCCASIONALLY COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE ROAD WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR WHEN VEHICLE ROLLING OVER THE SMALLEST SPEED BUMP OR EXITING DRIVEWAY. *JB
AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, PART WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER AFTER A FEW WEEKS, AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. DEALER CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK. CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT WORK DURING AN ACCIDENT.*MJ
BRAKES MOAN LOUDLY. TOYOTA SERVICE REPLACED AND SOUND IS MINIMIZED. MECHANIC COMMENTED THIS A PROBLEM FOR 1999 CAMRYS. SINCE REPLACED, SOUND IS MINIMIZED BUT STILL THERE. DEALER DID NOT STATE PROBLEM DURING BUYING PROCESS.
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH VEHICLE HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT AND DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, NOT PROTECTING THE OCCUPANT IN THIS CRASH. NO PRIOR PROBLEMS. MANUFACTURER IS NOT WILLING TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

BROUGHT CAMRY NEW 1999 REPLACED REAR BRAKES AT 9776 MILES AS WELL AS REAR DRUM TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL, 17472 COMPLETE FRONT BRAKE JOB, AT 17472 MILES REPLACED COMPLETE DISC BRAKES, MOUNTED TWO TIRES AND HAD 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT, BROUGHT TWO MORE TIRES AT 13724 MILES, THEN 2 MORE TIRES AT 29054 MILES, ONCE AGAIN WEAR AND TEAR NORMAL MUST BE DRIVER, ANOTHER FRONT BRAKE JOB AT 29981 MILES AND CLEANED AND ADJUSTED REAR BRAKES, THEN AT 37738 MILES REAR TIRE WORN AND FRONT TIRES CHOPPED, AT 38685 MILES WARRENTED BRAKE PAD FRONT BRAKES AND MACHINED ROTORS AT 40230 4 TIRES BROUGHT AND INSTALLED, ADJUSTED STRUT MOUNTS, AT 44016 MILES ADJUSTED AND TIGHTENED FRONT CALIPERS AND WARRANTY FOR BEARING SET, CONN. THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND FEEL THAT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACE TIRES TIMES 2 AND BRAKES TIMES 4 WITH ONLY 44016 MILES ON CAR TO DATE CLB. *AK
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCEERATION AS THE CONSUMER SHIFTED THE VEHICLE FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE CONSUMER PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SMOKE AS SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE HIT A FIRE HYDRANT AND CAME TO A STOP, THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER ABOUT RECALL 01V-012 BUT WAS TOLD THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED, CONSUMER BELIEVES A WIDER RECALL MAY BE NECESSARY. WHILE DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS DOWN A HILL AND WHEN TRYING TO SLOW DOWN AT ABOUT 10 MPH, BRAKES SEEMED TO GIVE WAY. CONSUMER HAD TO PRESS FOOT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. CAR STOPPED MIDWAY BEFORE INTERSECTION. *AK
WHEN THE INSURED PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO THE ROAD, ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF INSURED'S VEHICLE, AFTER THE IMPACT, A FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AND STARTED TO SMOKE THEN IGNITED. CLAIM NUMBER 52-2323-385. *YH
WHILE DRIVING AT A RATE OF APPROX. 35 MILE PER HOUR THE BRAKES WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR WHICH RESULTED IN A BACK END COLLISON . THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT AND THE AIR BAGS DID BOT WORK. ACCIDENT WAS REPOTED TO POLICE AND INSURANCE COMPANY. INSPECTOR STATED THAT THE SEATBELT AND AIRBAG WAS OK. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP HAVING AMASTER CYLINDERREPALCED, FROZEN CALIPERS REPLACED AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED BECAUSE OF UNEVEN WEAR.
VIBRATION AND GRINDING SOUND THORUGH STEERTING COLUMN PARTICULARLY WHEN TIGHT TURNING RIGHT; SPORADIC SOUND OF A SPRUNG "RUBBER BAND" THROUGH STEERING COLUMN; ON 4 OR 5 OCCASIONS STEERING WHEEL MOMENTARILY BOUND UP (DID NOT UNWIND) TOOK MINIMAL PRESSURE TO RETURN WHEELS TO STRAIGHT. *AK
WHILE AT A STOP, ANOTHER VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE CAMRY GOING ABOUT 30 MPH, AND DRIVER'S SEATBACK BROKE AND FLEW BACKWARDS WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED INJURIES. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION AND VIN#.*AK
