CAR WAS PARKED ON A FLAT SURFACE, IDLING WITH GEARSHIFT IN THE "PARK" POSITION; DRIVER STEPPED OUT OF VEHICLE AND WALKED IN FRONT OF CAR. CAR SURGED FORWARD AND PINNED DRIVER AGAINST WALL. RESIDENT OF HOUSE CAME TO ASSIST AND COULD NOT GET GEARSHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION - YET CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD, CAUSING FURTHER INJURY TO PINNED PARTY.
LEASED A NEW 2000 TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLE IN JULY 2000. TOOK CAR FOR ALL REQUIRED MAINTNEANCE CHECKS. AFTER ONLY 20,000 MILES WAS INFORMED THAT ALL 4 TIRES WERE COMPLETELY UNSAFE FOR DRIVING. IF I HAD NOT HAD CAR SERVICED I WOULD HAVE DRIVEN NEW CAR AND WAS IN DANGER OF A FATAL ACCIDENT. TIRES USUALLY ARE SAFE AT SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF MILES. I WANT TO REPORT THIS TO YOU SO THAT OTHERS ARE ADVISED TO CHECK THEIR TOYOTA BRIDGESTONE TIRES. IT COULD SAVE THEIR LIVES. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ACCIDENTS DUE TO THESE TOYOTA BRIDGESTONE TIRES AND SHOULD TOYOTA STOP USING THEM ON THEIR CARS AND LET THEIR CURRENT CUSTOMERS KNOW TO HAVE THEIR TIRES CHECKED. IT WAS THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT DISCOVERED MY BADLY WORN AND UNSAFE TIRES.
MY HUSBAND WAS GETTING ON THE ON RAMP TO THE FREEWAY WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE, HE THOUGHT HE BLEW A TIRE. WHEN HE CHECKED, THE SHORT BLOCK WAS CRACKED. THE CYLINDER HAD GONE THROUGH THE BLOCK. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING: NO OIL LIGHT, NO OVERHEATING, NO ABNORMAL ENGINE NOISE, OIL WAS FULL WHEN CHECKED TWO WEEKS PRIOR. TOYOTA REFUSED TO PAY TOTAL REPAIR COSTS DUE TO THE FACT WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE OF TWO OIL CHANGES IN 15 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP/24,000 MILES. WE BOUGHT THE CAR AT 21.5K MILES, DEALER CHANGED OIL AT 31K MILES IN DEC 02, ONE OIL RECEIPT I COULD FIND WAS DATED JUNE '03, CAR WAS DUE FOR ANOTHER CHANGE. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE ENGINE TODAY AND RECEIVED A REQUESTED OIL SAMPLE. THE PICTURES SHOW SLUDGE ON THE PISTONS, A CRACKED PISTON AND A SEVERELY CRACKED SHORT BLOCK. MECHANIC SAYS ONE OF THE RODS IS BENT, ALSO. I COULD NOT SEE ANY DEFORMITY IN THE RODS, BUT HAVE A PICTURE OF ALL FOUR RODS.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN AT AN UNSAFE RATE. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. MR
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY AIR CONDITIONER DRAIN HAS REPEATEDLY CLOGGED CAUSING THE INTERIOR CARPETING TO GET SOAKED. *DT THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED COOLING NEAR THE START OF A RECENT SUMMER VACATION, BUT WHEN HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. *JB
MULTIPLE ENGINES FAILURES IN 2000 MR2 SPYDER WITH 1ZZ-FE ENGINE. ORIGINAL ENGINES LASTED 22,000, 2ND ENGINE ONLY 1700 MILES.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
AFTER USING CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY AND COMING TO A STOP, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS. WHEN YOU PROCEED FORWARD, YOU HAVE TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HARD, CAUSING THE CAR GO FORWARD AT AN UNSAFE SPEED.

WHILE TRYING TO APPLY BRAKES AND WITH NO WARNING BRAKE PEDAL WILL GO TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
ON THE MORNING AUGUST 5, 2002 I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON I 270 FROM MY HOME IN FREDERICK MARYLAND TO MY PLACE OF WORK IN GAITHERSBURG MARYLAND WHEN I LOST MOST OF MY BRAKES I IMMEDIATELY EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND SLOWLY DROVE TO THE FITZGERALD TOYOTA WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR FOR REPAIR, THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE OF $1128.71 AND MY CAR IS NOT 3 YEAR OLD. SINCE THIS INCIDENT I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CONSUMER CARE NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE. MY QUESTION IS HAS ANY OTHER TOYOTA OWNER HAVE REPORTED THE SAME INCIDENT, AND SHALL I BE CONCERNED THAT THIS MALFUNCTION WILL HAPPEN AGAIN?

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. DEALER STATED ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON EITHER BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK CAP HAD NOT BEEN CLOSED TIGHT ENOUGH OR VEHICLE WAS REFUELED WITH ENGINE RUNNING. NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY DEALER.*AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE GAS CAP WAS ON TIGHT AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER REFULED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, CONSUMER FEELS HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FROM THE DEALER TO STOP THE ENGINE LIGHT FROM ILLUMINATING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.*JB
A/C WATER BACKUP FLOODED ENTIRE INTERIOR OF CAR. TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL, AVERAGE FOR TOYOTA, NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. MULTIPLE CONTACTS, MULTIPLE E-MAILS 17 DAYS FLOOD INTERIOR. CAR MAINTAINED WITH ALL NECESSARY CHECKS, EVEN 15,000 COMPLETE OVERHALL. I HAVE DRIVEN EVERY AMERICAN MAKE FOR 40 YEARS, NEVER HAD EXTERIOR OR INTERIOR LEAKS. THIS CAR HAS OTHER MALFUNCTIONS. TOYOTA CLAIMS A/C FLOODING NORMAL??? WHY DOESN'T THE PUBLIC KNOW, WHAT ABOUT ALL RATINGS? NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OF 36/36,000? CLASS ACTION, RECALLS ANY? MY FRONT TIRES WORE OUT COMPLETELY, DOWN TO THE BARE METAL, AT 11,000 MILES. THIS WAS DETERMINED BY THE DEALER DURING AN OIL CHANGE. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE AND I ASKED THAT THE MANUFACTURER BE CONTACTED SO THAT I COULD GET AN EXPLANATION. SUBSEQUENT COMMUNICATION WITH A DEALER REPRESENTATIVE INDICATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT RESPOND. THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT THEY HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS AND HE BELIEVES THAT THE TIRES WEAR OUT QUICKLY BECAUSE THEY ARE MADE TO "PROVIDE A SMOOTH RIDE". AS A CONSUMER I AM APPALLED THAT TIRES COSTING OVER $100 EACH WORE OUT SO QUICKLY AND I BELIEVE THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE RELATED TO THIS PARTICULAR BATCH. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE FACT THAT I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER (TOYOTA). TS

ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, PUT VEHICLE ON MACHINE, AND SAW NO PROBLEM. WHILE BACKING OUT VEHICLE SUDDENLY TOOK OFF. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
I PURCHASED A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY IN JANUARY OF 2001. IN JUNE 2002 THE REAR WINDOWS WOULD ROLL DOWN, BUT FAILED TO ROLL UP. AFTER 30 MINUTES OR MORE THE WINDOW WOULD COME UP SLIGHTLY WHEN THE SWITCH WAS ACTIVATED. AFTER ANOTHER 30 MINUTES OR MORE IT WOULD COME UP A LITTLE MORE. THIS PATTERN HAD TO BE CONTINUED UNTIL THE WINDOW WAS FINALLY UP. I DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE DEALER AND HE STATED THAT SINCE I WAS OVER THE MILEAGE WARRANTY THERE WAS NOTHING HE WOULD DO. I COULD BUY A NEW MOTOR FOR $400 TO $500 EACH WINDOW. WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR THE WINDOW GET ACTIVATED OFFEN AND THE VEHICLE ALSO GET RAIN INSIDE THE CAR BECAUSE THE WINDOW COULD NOT BE RAISED. I BELIEVE AFTER ONLY 18 MONTHS OF OWNER SHIP I SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPECT THE WINDOWS TO OPERATE PROPERLY.*AK
A/C OVERFLOW TUBE IS SO CLOSE TO THE GROUND THAT THE TUBE FILLS UP WITH DEBRIS FROM THE ROAD, AND THE WATER IN THE DRAIN OF THE AC OVERFLOW TUBE BACKS UP INTO THE INTERIOR OF MY CAR AND FLOODS THE CAR AND THE RUGS GET SOAK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS IF I FORGET TO SEND IT INTO THE SHOP AND PAY OUT OF MY POCKET TO HAVE THE DRAIN TUBE BLOWN OUT AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR. *TR
WHILE MY WIFE WAS LOADING HER PURCHASES INTO THE TRUNK, THE TRUNK LID CAME DOWN AND STRUCK HER ON THE HEAD. THERE WAS A 2" VERTICAL SPLIT BESIDE HER LEFT EYE WHICH WAS GLUED SHUT AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD BANG AND SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERIING AND POWER BRAKES. DEALER STATED THAT ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK. THE DEALER STATED WHEN THEY OPENED THE HOOD, THEY FOUND NUMBER 4 CONNECTING ROD STICKING THROUGH THE BLOCK, THEY ALSO FOUND A PIECE OF THE BLOCK STICKING INTO THE HOOD INSULATION AND AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THERE WAS OIL AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FROM THE HOLE IN THE BLOCK, THE DEALER BELIEVES THE VEHICLE WAS DOWNSHIFTED IMPROPERLY, CAUSING ENGINE TO OVER REV AND CAUSED THE CONNECTION ROD TO BREAK AND ALSO TO CATCH ON FIRE, CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS NO DOWNSHIFTING INVOLVED.*JB

WHILE APPLYING BRAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 40 MPH OR MORE, IT CAUSES STEERING WHEEL TO VIBRATE, BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR ASSOCIATED WITH GRINDING NOISE, CAUSING A DELAY IN STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER FOUND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT NO COST. *AK *TT
BRAKES MAKE A LOUD GRIDDING SOUND WHEN APPLIED. HAVE HAD SERVICED AND THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRAKE (DUST) RESIDUE LOCATED IN BRAKE DRUM. REMOVED AND CLEANED BUT CONDITION REOCCURS.
VANITY MIRROR FELL OFF DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR. THE MIRROR HAD ONLY BEEN USED TO A MINIMAL DEGREE--ONCE A MONTH OR LESS IN THE 20 MONTHS SINCE PURCHASE. A SHORT TIME AFTER, VISOR HINGE BECAME LOOSE. TOYOTA SAID PLASTIC HINGES WERE WORN AND ENTIRE VISOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $200.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. CLEARLY THE PARTS USED IN THE VISOR HINGE AND TO ATTACH THE VANITY MIRROR TO THE VISOR ARE DEFECTIVE. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT EITHER PART COULD DISLODGE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING AT THE VERY LEAST A DISTRACTION TO THE VEHICLE OPERATOR THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. MR
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. CONSUMER FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE ANOTHER DRIVER COULD HAVE REAR ENDED HIM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFOMATION. *AK
DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR WINDOWS HIT TOP OF DOOR FRAME WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE DOOR, WINDOW MUST BE PARTIALLY DOWN IN ORDER FOR THE DOOR TO CLOSE PROPERLY. *JB
GEAR EASILY MOVES FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BUTTON ON GEAR SHIFT; CAR ROLLS BACKWARDS ON HILLS; POSSIBLY INTO OTHER VEHICLE BEHIND. *AK
OIL SLUDGE WAS FOUND DURING OIL CHANGE AT 12000 MILES. ALL MAINTENANCE INTERVALS COMPLIED WITH. *AK
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT REAR CONTROL ARM.*MR THE CONSUMER FIRST COMPLAINED OF A NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. WHEN THE CONSUMER PICKED THE VEHICLE UP FROM THE DEALER THE NOISE HAD PERSISTED. AFTER BEING TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL 3 YEARS LATER THE VEHICLE FAILED THE SAFETY INSPECTION AND THAT IS WHEN THE LEFT REAR CONTROL ARM WAS REPLACED, AFTER THE REPLACEMENT THE NOISE DISAPPEARED. *JB
WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE CONSUMER BUMPED THE VEHICLE IN THE FRONT. THE DEALER FOUND OUT THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED AND THERE WAS AN INTERNAL LEAK. *YH
AT 32,000 MILES, THE WARNING LIGHT INDICATING LOW OIL PRESSURE CAME ON. THE OWNER TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER FOR REPAIR, AS IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION REFUSES TO HONOR ANY WARRANTY WORK BECAUSE OF 'ENGINE SLUDGE'. AFTER ONLY CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL AND PULLING THE VALVE COVERS OFF OF THE ENGINE, THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS 'OWNER NEGLECT'. AND WILL ONLY LOOK INTO POSSIBLE CAUSES AT THE OWNERS'S COST. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET THE OWNER HAS FOUND SEVERAL CASES OF 'ENGINE SLUDGE' NOT ONLY IN THE TOYOTA CAMRY'S PRODUCED IN 1999 THROUGH 2001 BUT IN THE TOYOTA TRUCK'S SIENNA MODEL, AS WELL.*AK
WHEN DRIVING THROUGH HEAVY RAIN WITH WATER STANDING ON ROAD, A/C FAILS. DEALER INDICATED THAT SUCH FAILURE WAS NORMAL WHEN WATER GETS ON BELT AND BELT SLIPS. NO REPAIR MADE. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE SEEN THIS FAILURE MANY TIMES BEFORE. FAILURE RESULTS IN RAPID AND UNEXPECTED CONDENSATION ON WINDSHIELD AND OTHER WINDOWS WITH LOSS OF VISIBILITY DURING BAD (HEAVY RAIN) DRIVING CONDITIONS. DEALER STATES THAT THERE ARE NO SERVICE BULLETINS CONCERNING THIS POROBLEM. DEALER DID NOT ADVISE CUSTOMER AS TO HOW TO RESET/RESTART A/C SYSTEM AFTER SUCH A FAILURE. PROBLEM REPORTED TO TOYOTA NATIONAL OFFICES ON 10/25/01 WITH TOYOTA FILE #2001 1024 0861. NO RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA AS OF 11/5/01. CUSTOMER ANALYSIS INDICATES THAT DEALER DID NOT PROPERLY DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. WET BELT WAS NOT SLIPPING. A/C COMPRESSER CLUTCH WAS SLIPPING AT FRICTION SURFACE WHEN WET AND THIS CAUSED SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. CUSTOMER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS AN INSUFFICIENT MAGNETIC FORCE ENGAGING CLUTCH (DESIGN PROBLEM) AND/OR CONTAMINATION ON CLUTCH FRICTION SURFACE CAUSING SLIPAGE WHEN WET.*AK
BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED EVERY 8000 MILES. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, AND CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE, LIKE METAL RUBBING AGAINST METAL. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED PADS UNDER WARRANTY TWICE, BUT THIRD TIME DEALER DID NOT REPLACE PADS BECAUSE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. *AK
AS THE TIME APPROACHED FOR OUR SECOND ROUTINE OIL CHANGE (ROUGHLY 6000 MILES), OUR BRAKE WARNING LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON AND OFF. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (KEITH MURRAY) AND REPORTED IT. THEY SAID THAT IT NEEDED BRAKE FLUID, AND REPLACE THE BRAKE FLUID AS THEY DID THE OIL CHANGE. THIS HAPPENED NEAR THE 9000 MILE MARK AS WELL, AND THEY AGAIN ONLY REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID., THIS TIME, WE INSISTED THAT THEY CHECK THE BRAKES BECAUSE WE KNEW THAT A NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT REQUIRE BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT SO OFTEN. THE MILEAGE ON OUR CAMRY IS NOW 13, 836. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT OUR CAR WAS INDEED LEAKING BRAKE FLUID, AND THAT THE BRAKE CALIPER NEED REPLACING. ACCORDING TO THE WORK ORDER DATED 10/9/01, THE FOLLOWING WORK WAS DONE: "REPLACED FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE CALIPER."
