WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE HIT A RETAINER WALL. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *AK....WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER HAD A SEIZURE AND PASSED OUT WITH HER FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION. TOOK OFF SEA BELT, CAME INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND TURNED ACROSS TRAFFIC INTO A PARKING, LOST GARAGE WHERE THE VEHICLE STRUCK A RETAINING WALL. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS SUCCESSFUL IN TURNING OFF THE IGNITION OFF AND PUTTING THE GEAR IN PARK, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATOR STICKING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS INCLUDING PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. UPDATED 04/06/11
MYSELF ALONG WITH MY 16 YEAR OLD BROTHER, SON 9, AND DAUGHTER 5 WERE DRIVING SUNDAY MORNING ON OUR WAY TO SAN DIEGO TO ATTEND THE PADRE GAME WHEN SUDDENLY ON THE HIGHWAY 15 WE HEARD A LOAD POP, SO I PROCEDED TO GET OFF ON THE ADAMS OFF RAMP, WHEN MY LIL. BROTHER SCREAMED IT'S A FIRE! AND HE DASHED OUT GETTING MY DAUGHTER OUT WHILE I STRUGGLED TO GET MY SON OUT THE CAR THEN SOMEONE PULLED OVER TOLD US TO GET IN THE CAR AND AS WE DROVE TO THE TOP OF THE OFF RAMP MY CAR EXPLODED, NO CRASH NOTHING HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR MY LIL. BROTHER THINKING FAST WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPED, MY CAR WAS AND IS STILL UNDER TOYOTAS WARRANTY. I'M WAITING TO SEE WHY THIS HAPPENED THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED!! MY FAMILY SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS. I HOPE THAT TOYOTA AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY HANDLE THIS ASAP!*AK
A ROAD HAZARD DESTROYED A FRONT TIRE AT APPROX 20, 000 MILES. I REPLACED IT AND HAD NEW SPARE PLACED ON OTHER FRONT WHEEL. REAR TIRES NEEDED REPLACING AT 47,000 MILES AND I REQUESTED COSTCO TIRE CENTER, SUNNYVALE, CA, TO PLACE NEW TIRES ON FRONT AND ROTATE PRESENT FRONTS TO REAR WHEELS. CLERK REFUSED STATING THAT COSTCO POLICY IS TO REFUSE TO INSTALL NEW TIRES AND MOUNT ON FRONT WHEELS ONLY. REASON WAS BASED ON A STUDY FROM MICHELIN TIRE COMPANY. I REQUESTED AND WAS SHOWN COSTCO EMPLOYEE MANUAL WITH THAT DIRECTION. STUDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE. COSTCO EMPLOYEE DIRECTIONS ARE THAT IF CUSTOMER INSISTS ON NEWER TIRES ON FRONT WHEELS, THE EMPLOYEE IS NOT TO SELL THE TIRES TO THE CUSTOMER. I WAS REPLACING MICHELIN TIRES WITH MICHELIN TIRES. COSTCO SELL OTHER BRANDS, BUT THIS WAS APPARENTLY A RULE FOR ALL. I CONTACTED MICHELIN ON THEIR WEBSITE REQUESTING AVAILABILITY OF READING THE SUBJECT STUDY. NO RESPONSE IN 8 DAYS. I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD AND FOLLOWED THE RULE THAT BEST TIRES BELONG ON FRONT WHEELS FOR SAFETY REASONS. I HAVE USED MICHELIN TIRES FOR YEARS BUT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS CONDITION OF SALE. HAS MICHELIN PLACED ME AND FAMILY IN AN UNSAFE POSITION WITH THIS UNAVAILABLE STUDY? WOULD APPRECIATE NHTSA ASSISTENCE IN RESOLVING THIS MATTER. *AK
A PLASTIC DUCT-TYPE OF DEVICE FELL FROM BEHIND THE DASHBOARD AND LODGED BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL PREVENTING BRAKING WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THE ITEM APPEARS TO BE A HEATING DUCT PART AND HAS NUMBERS PP-T20, 785-US AND 784-US STAMPED IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS OF THE TWO-PART ITEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE CAUSED ME AN ACCIDENT, IF I HAD NOT HAD QUICK WITS.*AK
POWER BRAKE ASSIST UNIT FAILED AT 27,400 MILES. ADVISED A NUMBER OF THESE UNITS HAVE BEEN REQUESTED FOR REPLACEMENT. CONTACTED TOYOTO AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER. HAD THE FAILURE OF THIS PART CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, I AM CERTAIN TOYOTO WOULD TAKE A DIFFERENT POSITION. *JB
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY REVERSE IN AUTOMATIC TRANMISSON WENT OUT. PROBLEM SPOT WELDS WHERE GEAR CONNECTED TO SHAFT BROKE AND GEAR COULD NOT TURN. CAR HAS ONLY 96000 MILES ON IT AND THIS EQUIPMENT FAILURE SHOULD NOT OCCURS . I SPENT $1600 GETTING THE TRANSMISSON REBUILD BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TOYOTA WANTED $3700.
CONSUMER WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT, PRESSED THE BRAKES, AND VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURB AND COLLIDED WITH A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, NOR WAS THERE A POLICE REPORT. *AK *MR
WHEN APPROACHING A PARKING SPACE, THE DRIVER PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A STORE WINDOW. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. *AK *JB THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REPLIED BY SAYING THAT THE INCIDENT WAS NOT THE RESULT OF ANY TYPE OF MANUFACTURER DESIGN OR DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WANTS TO CLOSE THE CASE. *NM
WHILE DRIVING UP HILL FROM A STOP THROTTLE STUCK, MAKING IT HARD FOR CONSUMER TO DECELERATE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK *MR
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH IN CRUISE CONTROL CONSUMER KEPT FEELING AN ABNORMAL SHIFT IN THE ENGINE. GEARS WERE SHIFTING, BUT THEY WERE DOING SO ROUGHLY. CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISABLED ,AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. HE EXAMINED THE ENGINE, DROVE THE VEHICLE, AND CLAIMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS WORKING NORMALLY. VEHICLE WAS GETTING VERY LOW GAS MILEAGE CONSIDERING THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSE TO GET HIGH GAS MILEAGE. *AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM THE REAR AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THEN, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE STRUCK THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE, TOSSING THE CONSUMER. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT ON JAN 28, 04 WHICH TOTALED THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME THE GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK WAS NOV, 03. THAT TIME THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED AND THE CONSUMER WAS CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS PROBLEM IS UNDER INVESTIGATION WITH NHTSA. *NM
2000 TOYOTA SOLARA SLE CONV/2DR. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT MY BRAKES FOR YEARS. THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THEM. BUT THERE IS. SOMETIMES I CAN'T STOP/SLOW DOWN I FEEL I HAVE NO BRAKES. OR COULD IT BE THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE DIFFERENT FLOOR MATS IN THE VEHICLE BUT IT STILL DOES IT. IT HAPPENS ONCE IN AWHILE. I LET A FRIEND DRIVE IT FOR AWHILE AND IT HAPPENED TO HIM. I TELL PEOPLE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME IN MY VEHICLE IT WOULD BE BECAUSE OF NO BRAKES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER MOTHER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE A VERY LOW SPEED (1-2 MPH) AND TRYING TO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD, OVER A CURB AND RAN INTO A BUILDING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THERE WERE NO PRIOR FAILURES RELATED TO THAT PROBLEM. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NO REPORTS ON RELATED PROBLEMS AND COULD NOT ASSIST HER. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER INSPECTED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 33,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,257.
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. *AK PROBLEMS WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *MR
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 33,000 MILES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER SAID IT WAS CODES PO440 PO441 AND PO446. THEY SAID I NEED A NEW "CANISTER AND CONTROL VALVE" AND IT WILL COST $600. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THIS IS SOME KIND OF CHARCOAL FILED CANISTER THAT DEALS WITH EMISSIONS. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS IS A NON ESSENTIAL PART. IT WOULD ALSO SEEM THAT THIS WOULD HAVE FEW, IF ANY, MOVABLE PARTS AND SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR. THIS HAD TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND COULD NOT BE RELATED TO USE OF THE CAR OR THE DRIVER. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THIS PART AND REPLACE IT ON A CAR WITH SO FEW MILES. *LA
MANUAL TRANSMISSION WORKS ABNORMALLY FROM THE SECOND GEAR TO THE FOURTH GEAR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. DEALER STATED, MECHANIC DROVE VEHICLE, AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH TRANSMISSION. *AK
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON MY 2000 TOYOTA CAMERA WITH 52000 MILES. WENT TO MONTROSE TOYOTA TO HAVE CHECKED OUT. CODE PO441 INDICATED VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR FOR EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS INOPERATIVE. CANISTER FAILING. COST OF REPAIR AROUND $500. THE ONLY CAUSE THE DEALER KNOWS OF FOR THIS FAILURE IS OVER FILLING THE GAS TANK AFTER IT SHUTS OFF. I DO NOT OVER FILL MY TANK. THIS IS A CHARCOAL CANISTER THAT TAKES IN GASOLINE VAPORS. OVER FILLING THE TANK WILL CAUSE THE CHARCOAL IN THE CANISTER TO START BREAKING UP. I WAS TOLD THIS IS AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM AND THESE DEFECTS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR UP TO 100000 MILES. *CB
RIGHT FRONT CALIPER BOLT FELL OUT WHILE DRIVING - CALIPER DISLODGED JUST HAPPENED AGAIN 5/17/04. *AK
AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR, INCLUDING EVERY FALL, THE BRAKES ON MY 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY SUDDENLY START TO FAIL. THERE IS A WHOOSHING SOUND (AIR ESCAPING SOME ENCLOSURE) WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKES, WHICH HAVE MUCH MORE TRAVEL THAN USUAL WITHOUT ANY STOPPING POWER. WHEN I FINALLY GET SOME STOPPING POWER, THE BRAKES GRAB. IT IS NOT THE NORMAL SMOOTH BRAKING I USUALLY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CAR. THERE IS ALSO SOMETIMES A SQUEEKING - A VERY HIGH PITCHED WHISTLE. AGAIN, THIS SOUNDS LIKE AN AIR MOVEMENT EVENT; IT'S DEFINITELY NOT A METAL-ON-METAL SQUEEK OR A RUBBER-ON-METAL SQUEEK. THE SOUNDS ARE INSIDE THE CAR, NOT FROM ANY OF THE WHEELS. THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOTED AT ALL SPEEDS, EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. ALTHOUGH THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IS ALWAYS WELL ABOVE MINIMUM, OCCASIONALLY TOPPING OFF THE BRAKE FLUID TO THE MAX "FULL" LEVEL HELPS, BUT NOT THIS TIME. THREE TIMES I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER (BEAMAN TOYOTA IN NASHVILLE, TN) FROM WHOM I BOUGHT THE CAR WHEN THIS PROBLEM CROPS UP (9/01, 10/02, 9/03), BUT TO NO AVAIL. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT BEING TOLD, "NOTHING'S WRONG," WHEN VERY CLEARLY SOMETHING IS WRONG.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING VEHICLE STALLED AND THEN REGAINED ACCELERATION. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION UPON PULLING INTO A SPACE IN AN OPEN PARKING LOT. THIS RESULTED IN VEHICLE JUMPING THE CURB, GOING THROUGH GRASS, OVER THE MEDIUM, AND LANDING ON A PARKED VEHICLE ON THE LOWER LEVEL. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT NO FAILURE CODE WAS FOUND. *AK THE CONSUMER PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE FORWARD, THE CONSUMER LIGHTLY PLACED HER FOOT ON THE GAS AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. *SC *JB
INTERMITTENTLY WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY LEFT FRONT DOOR WINDOW WILL NOT CLOSE AFTER BEING OPENED - MOST INCONVENIENT DURING RAIN AND AT THE CAR WASH. *AK
WHILE CONSUMER'S SON WAS DRIVING AT 35 MPH AT 11PM AND RAINING NIGHT APPLIED BRAKES AND LOST CONTROL, VEHICLE HIT A TELEPHONE POLE AND NEITHER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
DT: THERE IS SERIOUS VIBRATION IN THE FRONT BRAKES. EVERY TIME THE CONSUMER APPLIES THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WILL SHAKE AND SO WILL THE STEERING WHEEL. CAN HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT BRAKES. NOTICED THIS PROBLEM ON AUGUST 1, 2003. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND HAD TO CHANGE THE CALIPERS AND THE ROTORS. HAVE HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED , THEN SHAVED THEM TWICE, AND THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE THE CONSUMER FOR REPAIRS. *AK
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE 57 SOUTH FWY ABOUT 7P.M. WHEN HER FRONT RIGHT TIRE EXPLODED INTO SERVAL PIECES... THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL TIRE AND EQUIPMENT. WE UNDERSTAND A FLAT COULD HAVE OCCURRED FROM EVERYDAY WEAR AND TEAR; HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE EVIDENCE OF THIS, WE WILL PROVIDE PHOTOS OF WHAT IS LEFT. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND OR RECALLED.*AK
DEFECTIVE BATTERY EQUIPMENT ON 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY 4LE V6.*MR THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE INFORMED ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY ALTERNATORS, OR OTHER RELATED ELECTRICAL LOSS, BECAUSE IT THEY MAY BE DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE BATTERIES TO GO DEAD. *CB
THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES WITHIN 30 DAYS. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. *AK CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THIS FAILURE MAY BE THE RESULT OF THE ALTERNATOR NOT BEING ABLE TO SUPPORT THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE AN "OFF" SWITCH FOR THE HEADLIGHTS. *PH
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
HAD A FRONT COLLISION. DUE TO A FAULTY ABS SYSTEM, APPLIED THE BRAKE AND TOOK LONGER TO STOP. *TT
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 45MPH WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT COLLISION AND NEITHER OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOY. *TT
NHTSA# 01-V-012-000 THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HOUSING COULD BE DEFORMED AT THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR-TO-THROTTLE BODY CONNECTION. THE ACCELERATOR INNER-CABLE COULD WEAR AWAY AND EVENTUALLY BREAK. CONSUMER HAD SAME PROBLEM. *TT
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS HIT IN THE FRONT CENTER, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, AND THE SEAT BELT BROKE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE CONSUMER HAD RUN INTO A POLE AND FLED THE SCENE. THE POLICE OFFICER LOCATED THE CONSUMER AND AS HE TALKED TO HIM, THE CONSUMER SEEMED CONFUSED AND DISORIENTED AND AN AMBULANCE WAS DISPATCHED TO THE CONSUMER'S HOME WHERE THE OFFICER FOUND HIM. THE CONSUMER DIED FROM HIS INJURIES. *SCC *JB
WHEN OPENING THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, IT WOULD SLAM SHUT. THE CONSUMER NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP. *AK BOTH THE CONSUMER AND HIS WIFE HAD BEEN HIT IN THE HEAD AS THEY EXITED THE VEHICLE. *SCC *NLM
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE (PRESSING GAS PEDAL), VEHICLE WILL NOT SPEED UP FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, AND THEN IT ABRUPTLY LUNGES FORWARD AT AN INCREASED SPEED, POSING A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY STARTING WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS OF BUYING THE CAR. THIS IS PARTICULARLY CONCERNING WHEN DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY RAMP. THUS I HAVE BEEN AVOIDING DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY. ALSO, THE BRAKES WORK ABNORMALLY. THERE WAS EXCESSIVE VIBRATION, JERKINESS, AND BRAKE SENSITIVITY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WITHIN 5 DAYS OF PURCHASE AND SUBSEQUENTLY RETURNED IT 4 MORE TIMES. THEY ONLY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND RESURFACED THEM. OTHERWISE, THEY DENY THERE IS ANY OTHER PROBLEM. THEY BLAMED THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM ON THE A/C BEING TURNED ON. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS REGARDLESS TO WHETHER THE ACCESSORIES ARE TURNED ON OR OFF OR HOW HIGH THEY ARE TURNED ON. *NLM
THE ALLOY RIMS ON MY 2000 CAMRY PURCHASED 5/03 ARE SHOWING EXCESSIVE CORROSION. ALL THE VEHICLES OVER TWO YEARS OLD ON THE DEALERS LOT ALSO HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IGNORED THE PROBLEMS AS I WAS TOLD IT DID NOT MAKE THE RIMS DANGEROUS. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A PRODUCT DEFECT THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY BRAKE DUST AND THERE IS NO CORRECTIVE REMEDY.
WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE OVER HEATED. *JB
2000 CAMRY, V6, LE - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. WAS TOLD IT WAS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF FILLING THE GAS TOO MUCH. THE LIGHT STAYED ON OVER TWO YEARS AND I HAD TO HAVE THE "SENSOR" REPLACED. IT WAS ONLY ABOUT FIVE MONTHS AGO WHEN I HAD THIS REPLACED - AND AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS CAME ON AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF. MY CAR HAS ALMOST 150,000 MILES BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS BACK AROUND 50,000. I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH BACKEND CLUNKING NOISES, AND MY FRONT WHEELS CLICKED, AND NOW THE BRAKES SQUEAK LIKE CRAZY (AND HAVE FOR OVER TWO YEARS). ENGINE OIL HAS A TENDANCY TO GET MILKY AFTER 2,000 MILES FROM PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE. STEPS TAKEN TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM WERE AS FOLLOWS: 1. OIL CHANGES TO SEMI SYNTHETIC OR ALL SYNTHETIC OIL. 2. CHANGE OIL & FILTER AT 2,000 MILE INTERVALS AT SUSTAINED TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING. 3. DRIVING HABITS TO AVOID A SERIES OF SHORT TRIPS, BY SCHUDLING 30-45 MINUTE HIGHWAY RUN WEEKLY. ( WHEN EVER POSSIBLE) I WAS ALARMED BY THE RE-OCCURING LOOK OF THE OIL AND THE DIRTY CONDITION UNDER THE OIL FILLER CAP ( ENGINE NOT HOT ENOUGH, LONG ENOUGH?) . I TOOK ADDITION TIME TO CLEAN UP THE DIRTY APPEARENCE AND CHANGE THE OIL EARLIER THAN 2,000 UNTIL THE CONDITION NORMALIZED. EXTENDED RUNS ON THE HIGHWAY ALSO HELPED THE CONDITION OF THE OIL OVER THE 2,000 MILE INTERVAL. ESPECIALLY WITH THE HARSH 2002/2003 WINTER IN THE NORTHEAST US.
