UPON PUTTING VEHICLE IN PARK WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH FOOT DEPRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT A RAPID SPEED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE ON IT'S RIGHT SIDE. A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULDN'T LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE RAPID AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *NM *NM UPDATED 7/3/12 *CN UPDATED 07/12/12
CAMRY 2003 BRAKE FAILURE. BRAKE PEDAL FROZE WHEN DRIVING AND WOULD NOT PRESS DOWN AT ALL. FRANTICALLY, WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 25 MPH AND 30 MPH, AFTER APPROXIMATELY 1500 FEET, THE PEDAL WENT DOWN AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GET THE PEDAL DOWN. (I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND TESTED THE BRAKES. THOUGH THE BRAKES SHOWED THAT THEY WERE FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY, THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY FREEZING. I HAD TO CONTINUALLY TRY TO PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN AND FRANTICALLY WARNED MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR THAT THE PEDAL WAS STUCK AND WOULDN'T BUDGE, THAT I LOST THE BRAKES. LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE IT WAS AT LEAST 1500 FEET BEFORE THE PEDAL EVENTUALLY WENT DOWN, WITH TIGHT HESITATION). *AK
2003 V6 CAMRY EXPERIENCES SUDDEN AND RANDOM JERKSS/BUCKING/HESITATION AS DRIVER ACCELARATES INTO SECOND/THIRD GEARS. TOOK BACK TO DEALER 3X, 1ST TIME ECU WAS REPROGRAMMED; 2ND TIME DEALER SAID THE CAR WAS GETTING TO KNOW HOW I DRIVE; 3RD TIME THEY SAID THAT IS NORMAL FOR GEARS. I FOUND OUT THE LEXUS 300 ES, WHICH HAS THE SAME ENGINE, ALSO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING THE JERKING/BUCKING/HESITATION.*AK
MY MOTHER BERTHA SUSSMAN WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED WHEN SHE APPROACHED THE GATE OF HER COMMUNITY. SHE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR ACCELERATED. SHE HIT A TREE AS THE CAR PICKED UP SPEED. SHE HAS SPENT THE LAST YEAR IN THE HOSPITAL, HOSPICE, AND NURSING HOME.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ROTTEN EGG SMELL CAME INTO THE VEHICLE, IT DIDN'T MATTER WHETHER THE WINDOWS WERE CLOSED OR OPENED. CONSUMER FELT A BURNING SENSATION IN THE NOSE AND THE THROAT. DEALERSHIP/ FLOOR MANAGER MADE AN INCREDIBLE STATEMENT, INQUIRING IF PRESIDENT BUSH PUT SULFUR IN THE GAS, CALL HIM. *AK
DT: ON DECEMBER 8, 2003, AT 6918 MILES CONSUMER WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES AND THEY FAILED. CONSUMER WAS IN A SCHOOL ZONE AND TRIED TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER TO BE INSPECTED, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AGAIN, HAD THE VEHICLE OUT AND WAS AT A 3 WAY STOP AND TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, AND THEY FAILED AGAIN. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 21, 2005 AT 13096 MILES, AND THEY DID FIND THAT BECAUSE OF A BRAKE FAILURE THERE WAS INTERNAL FAILURE IN MASTER CYLINDER, AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE. FROM DRIVE TO PARK TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP AND CAR WON'T MOVE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *PH

MY WIFE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2003 CAMRY LE AND HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING ON THE VEHICLE. IN OUR OPINIONS THERE IS EXCESSIVE PEDAL TRAVEL BEFORE THE BRAKING SYSTEMS STARTS TO ENGAGE AND YOU MUST PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL PRACTICALLY TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP. AS A RESULT, MY WIFE NEARLY HAD TWO ACCIDENTS DURING SUDDEN STOPS. WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEIR ASSESSMENT WAS THAT THE BRAKES ARE FINE AND WE MUST GET USED TO THEM. *LA

VEHICLE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE EQUIPMENT.*MR TIRE FAILURE WITH THREE OF THE CONTINENTAL TIRES WHILE TRAVELING ALONG THE SAME ROAD. THE FIRST FAILED TIRE COULDN'T BE REPAIRED. THE SECOND WAS REPAIRED AT NTB. *PH *NM
ROTTEN EGG SMELL FOR MY 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. IT'S BEEN LIKE THIS FOR THE LAST 7 MONTHS, SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW. I CHANGED MANY DIFFERENT SUPPLIERS OF GRADE 87 GAS, AND THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. I HAVE ABOUT 9000 MILES ON IT.*AK MY FRIEND WHO BOUGHT A 2003 CAMRY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. *AK
THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL PLUNGE TO FLOOR MAT. THE PEDAL HEIGHT WAS VERY LOW, PUMPING PEDAL INCREASES THE HEIGHT. THE CAR WILL STOP, CONTINUED PRESSURE CAUSES PEDAL TO DROP TO FLOOR. *JB WHEN THE ENGINE WAS OFF, THE PEDAL WOULD TOUCH THE FLOOR. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING THE PEDAL WAS ABOUT ONE QUARTER INCH FROM THE FLOOR. *TC *SC
DURING THE DAY ODOMETER IS HARD TO VIEW. DEALER STATES THAT IT IS THE NEW DESIGN FOR THE 2003 MODELS. *AK
2003 TOYOTA 4DR. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND STRUCK A FENCE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. *JB
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONSUMER COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH HER FEET WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE SURGED. THE CONSUMER STATED IT SEEMED LIKE A COMPUTER PROBLEM. AN ACCIDENT DID OCCUR, HOWEVER THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONSUMER HAD TO MAKE THE VEHICLE SPIN BEFORE SHE COULD STOP IT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A BROAD SIDE COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED BRUISED RIBS AND BACK INJURIES. *AK
DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CHECK, THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS LOCKED UP AND DAMAGED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE DEALER RESURFACED THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS. *JB *NLM
AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND COMING TO A STOP SIGN CONSUMER DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AGAIN AT ANOTHER STOP VEHICLE SURGED, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES ON THREE OCCASIONS. ROTTEN EGG (OR WORSE) SMELL INSIDE VEHICLE, THE SAME AS IN MY 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY. VISITS TO DEALERS WITH 1999 WAS NO HELP. JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT ABOUT SERVICE BULLETIN & HAD QUARTER VENT DUCT ASSEMBLY REPLACED. SAME SMELL IN 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. DEALER SAID IT NO LONGER HAS VENTS SO NO PROBLEM. COULD NOT GET WORK ORDER RECEIPT TO PROVE I WAS AT DEALERS WITH THIS COMPLAINT. TH/MA. *AK
INCIDENT OCCURRED DURING DAYTIME, CLEAR SKIES, DRY ROAD,WITH NO DEBRIS. VEHICLE WAS PRACTICALLY NEW, HAVING LESS THAN 300 MILES. AT 1230 IN AFTERNOON, I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 25-30 MPH ON A SLIGHT DOWNGRADE (IN A 45 MPH ZONE). ANOTHER VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF VEHICLE THAT WAS 5-6 CAR LENGTHS DIRECTLY AHEAD OF ME. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE INTERLOPER. I TOO STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO AVOID VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. ALTHOUGH I WAS APPLYING SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE (1 LEG PRESS 400+LBS, AND WAS APPLYING APPROX 1/2 TO 3/4 OF THAT) , BUT MY VEHICLE SLOWED NEGLIGIBLE - PROMPTING AN EXPLETIVE VERSION OF "WHAT THE HECK?!?!". AFTER A COUPLE OF INEFFECTIVE ATTEMPTS TO PUSH DOWN BRAKE PEDAL I STOMPED IT, WITH LITTLE OR NO EFFECT. MY VEHICLE ULTIMATELY CAME TO A STOP THROUGH IMPACT WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME (AFTER TRAVELING APPROX 150-200 FEET). THE OTHER DRIVER AND VEHICLE, MY PASSENGER AND I WERE UNHARMED, BUT MY VEHICLE SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT FRONT-END DAMAGE. I REPORTED THE BRAKE PROBLEM TO BOTH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (LOCATED 1/4 MILE FROM THE SITE OF THE INCIDENT) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT INCLINED TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM, BUT I PRESSED THE ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AND MY INSURER, UNTIL SOMEONE FROM THE TOYOTA REGIONAL OFFICE IN BALTIMORE AGREED TO EXAMINE MY VEHICLE. THE "EXAMINATION" OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE (FRONT-END DAMAGE AND ALL) HAD BEEN SITTING ON THE DEALERS LOT FOR 3 WEEKS, AND CONSISTED OF A COUPLE OF TEST STOPS IN THE PARKING LOT AND PULLING WHEELS OFF THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP TO INSPECT THE BRAKES. THIS, OF COURSE, YIELDED NO NEW INFORMATION AND TOYOTA EFFECTIVELY CLOSED THE COMPLAINT. *JB
THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UPON DEPRESSION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS RESULTED IN THE CONSUMER BROAD SIDING ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE BRAKES WOULD EVENTUALLY ADJUST TO THE CONSUMER AS THE COMPUTER SETS ITSELF. *SC *JB
2003 TOYOTA CAMRY V6 LE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT ONLY 4000 MILES. CONTINUED PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION, ENGINE. FAULTY, DELAYED SHIFTING, ENGINE NOISE/RESONANCE, LACK OF ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR TO PASS. IDLE IS NOISY INTO THE CABIN. VEHICLE CONTINUES TO EXHIBIT TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE PROBLEMS. CAR HAS A REPUTATION FOR SMOOT, COMPLIANT RIDE. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. PROBLEMS PERSIST DEPSITE DEALER INSISTENCE THAT THE PROBLEMS ARE NORMAL.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40-43 MPH, AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS ABOUT TO BE SHIFTED INTO OVERDRIVE, THE FRONT END VIBRATED UNTIL ABOUT 45-50 MPH AND THEN THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND BALANCED THREE TIMES TO MAKE SURE THE TIRES WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERS CONCLUSION WAS THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINE OVERLOAD OR BAD TIRES. THE VIBRATION WAS FELT THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. (MAY BE A LOCKED UP CONVERTER OR THE TRANSMISSION) *NLM *SCC *JB
CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO1 REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH FUEL PUMP GUARD RAIL. DROVE THOUGH IT AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A VEHICLE. *AK *JB
ADDING TO THE COMPLAINT ALREADY REGISTERED ABOUT LONG TRAVEL OF BRAKE PEDAL BEFORE BRAKES ACTUALLY BEING APPLIED. DEALER READJUSTED, BUT STILL FAR SHORT OF COMFORTABLE FEELING. DEALER ALSO SUGGESTED I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH ABS. HA! ALSO ADDING TO COMPLAINT OF WINDSHIELD POPPING NOISE BEFORE ACTUAL CRACK APPEARS. OUR CAMRY'S WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN POPPING AND CREAKING SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR.. SEVERAL TRIPS TO DEALER HAVE NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.*AK
I PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY IN JAN. 2003 SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS, BUT THE ONE THAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST IS TINY POCK MARKS ALL OVER MY FRONT WINDSHILED. IT LOOKS AS IF SOMEONE TOOK A NAIL AND TAPPED LITTLE TINY NICKS ON THE GLASS. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS HAPPENED, SEEING AS I DO NOT TAILGATE ANY VEHICLE ESPECIALLY TRUCKERS. THE DEALERSHIP IS GOING TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT BUT THEY THINK THIS IS MY FAULT SOME HOW.

WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 60-70 MPH THE STEERING WHILE VIBRATED SEVERELY. THIS MADE CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE AND MAINTAINING IT ON THE ROAD VERY DIFFICULT. THE CONSUMER WILL BE TAKING VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *NLM
WE PURCHASED A NEW 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY LE.AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS OR SO WE BEGAN TO HEAR A WATER SLOSHING SOUND UNDER OUR DASHBOARD.WE THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE OUR DRIVEWAY WAS AT A SLOPE AND MAYBE THE POSITION THE CAR WAS IN, THE FLUIDS WERE RUSHING THROUGH THE ENGINE.SO WE PARKED IN THE STREET.THE SAME NOISE CONTINUED WHEN WE BRAKED,TURNED AND STOPPED.AFTER TRYING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM WE TOOK OUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR AND SAID"OH,THAT'S A NORMAL ENGINE SOUND" I SAID I DON'T THINK SO AND WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE AIR IN THE HOSES.THEY BLED THE SYSTEM AND IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN RETURNED.BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 MORE TIMES.FINALLY THEY THREW UP THEIR HANDS AND SAID FOR US TO GIVE THEM 60 MORE DAYS TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM WHICH IT WAS NOW IN ARBITRATION.HOW CAN THEY TRY TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM IF WE STILL HAD THE CAR IN OUR POSESSION? WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE THIS CAR PUTTING ON MILES NOT KNOWING THAT WHEN THEY BUY BACK YOUR CAR THEY DEDUCT THE MILES FROM THE COST OF WHICH THEY PAY YOU ON THE LEMON LAW BUYBACK.SO HAD THEY KEPT THE CAR ,KNOWING THEY COULDN'T REMEDY THE PROBLEM,OUR MONIES WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE.THEY ARE BUYING OUR CAR BACK AND WE FEEL EXTREMELY CHEATED.WE BOUGHT A NEW VEHICLE. THE HOOD RELEASE LATCH WAS RECONNECTED, BECAUSE THE CONSUMER HEARD A RATTLE NOISE. I SLOWLY PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, AND THE CAR FAILED TO STOP AND SURGED FORWARD. THE CAR HIT THE STORE WALL, FIVE FEET FROM THE PARKING STALL. I REPORTED THIS TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED AND I WAS TOLD THEY WERE OKAY. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR FOR IT'S FIRST MAINTANCE AT THE TOYOTA DEALER, I TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND WHY. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE 2003 CAMRY'S RPMS GO UP IF YOU HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND YOU SIMULTANEOUSLY STEP ON THE BRAKES LIGHTLY. THEY DID NOT REPLACE ANY BRAKE PARTS, INSTEAD THEY SUGGESTED THAT I PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKES IF THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON TO AVOID AN OTHER SURGING INCIDENT.*AK

BRAKES HAVE A PULSATION IN BRAKE PEDAL WHEN STOPPING. FRONT ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND,LATERAL OUT OF ROUND AND REAR DRUMS NEEDED TO BE MACHINED. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. ALSO, WHEN STOPPING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, MOTOR MAKES A FLUTTERING SENSATION.*AK
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT THE CEMENT BLOCK IN THE PARKING SPACE. *AK *NM
THE NEW MODEL YEAR 03 AND 04 TOYOTA CAMRY SEDANS, SIENNA MINI VANS HAVE POORLY DESIGNED AND OR MIS ADJUSTED HEADLIGHTS CAUSING BLINDING GLARE TO ON COMING DRIVERS OR DRIVERS IN FRONT OF THESE VEHICLES. THE EXCESSIVELY GLARING LIGHT CAUSED EYE PAIN TO OTHER DRIVERS AND TEMPORARY BLINDNESS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MAT IS NOT FIXED TO THE UNDERLYING FLOOR. IT SLIDES AROUND. THIS CONDITION WAS APPARENT FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. BEFORE I RECENTLY HEARD THIS COULD BE AN ACTUAL DANGER BY INTERFERING WITH THE GAS OR BRAKE PEDALS, I JUST STRAIGHTENED IT OUT WHEN I SAW IT HAS MOVED OUT OF PLACE. NOW I REMOVED THE MAT BUT THIS MEANS THE FLOOR BELOW IS NOT PROTECTED FROM DIRT, ETC. IT BOTHERS ME THAT TOYOTA NEVER THOUGHT THIS WAS AN ISSUE. NOW I FIND OUT THAT LATER MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY STILL WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT'S A 2003 AND NOT UNDER A RECALL ORDER. WHILE PARKING, THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AND CRASHED INTO A WALL IN A PARKING LOT. CAUSE OF PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *PH WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLES ENGINE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO RACE. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD ABOUT 3 FEET AND CRASHED INTO THE WALL OF THE PARKING STRUCTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. *TS *NLM
2003 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE WHILE STOPPED WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN A LINE OF CARS WAITING FOR THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TO TURN GREEN, CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT CAUSING SIGNIFICANT FRONT-END DAMAGE TO OUR CAR. AGAIN, THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE FLOOR MAT (1) WAS ALL THE WAY BACK AGAINST BASE OF THE SEATS AND NOT IN THE AREA OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND (2) THE MAT IS BY DESIGN, CUT BACK 3 TO 4 INCHES SHORT OF THE CARPETED AREA UNDER, NEAR AND AROUND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND (3) THE BASE AND REAR OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARE SUSPENDED 2 1/2 TO 3 INCHES AWAY FROM THE CARPETED FLOOR AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO A POSITION CLOSE TO THE FLOOR--AND IT DEFINITELY BEYOND THE PEDAL TRAVEL DISTANCE THAT DRIVERS WOULD/COULD PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE ASSOCIATE WHO SAID "NO PROBLEM FOUND." PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR PERIODICALLY, BUT WE NOW KNOW TO PRESS DOWN HARDER THAN NORMAL WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. (WE ALSO NOTED A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH OUR 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE--BUT THE PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS IN REVERSE. WHEN STARTING UP IN THE MORNING AND BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE WITH FOOT COVERING THE BRAKE (AND NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL), THE ENGINE RPMS SUDDENLY ACCELERATE AND IF YOU AREN'T AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND DON'T HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR CAN SPEED UP SIGNIFICANTLY AND GO OUT OF CONTROL. 2003 TOYOTA LIMITED 4-RUNNER V8- AWDFRONT-END VIBRATION PROBLEM. I FIRST PRESENTED THE VIBRATION PROBLEM TO MY DEALER THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST! THEY TRIED BALANCING THE WHEELS WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. THEY AGREED THE PROBLEM WAS THERE AND NOTIFIED CORPORATE. THEIR TECHNICAL STAFF HAD THEM REMOVE THE FRONT AXELS AND RETEST THE VIBRATION WHICH STARTED AT 22 MPH, WENT TO 32MPH 42, 55, AND 62MPH NOW DISAPPEARED! A WEEK LATER A TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE MET WITH ME AND MENTIONED THAT SEVERAL VEHICLES IN PHOENIX HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SUGGESTED IT PROBABLY WOULD TAKE ABOUT TWO MONTHS TO GET A FIX. TWO MONTHS LATER I TALKED TO THE TECH. REP. AGAIN AND HE MENTIONED THAT THE ENGINEERING GROUP HAD DETERMINED THE PROBLEM TO BE INTERFERENCES IN THE SPIDER GEAR ASSEMBLY IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL, THEY WERE TRYING TO CORRECT THE CONDITION WITH THRUST WASHER SHIMS AND OTHER THINGS. I HAVE PRESENTED MY CLAIM TO THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT GROUP. I HAVE CALLED THEM REGULARLY ONCE A MONTH AND HAVE HAD NO SUCCESS AT FINDING WHAT THEIR SCHEDULE IS FOR THE FIX,--ONLY TO SAY WE ARE WORKING ON IT AND YOUR DEALER WILL NOTIFY YOU. IVE SINCE HEARD FROM MY DEALER STAFF THAT THEY HAVE A NUMBER OF LEXUS GX470'S AS WELL AS 4-RUNNERS INVOLVED. IM BEGINNING TO FEEL THAT THEY HAVE SO MANY VEHICLES WITH DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLIES INVOLVED, THAT IT MAY REQUIRE SOME KIND OF MAJOR REDESIGN AND BUILD. IT MIGHT BE A LONG TIME BEFORE WE SEE A FIX!
