WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, WHILE SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THREE VEHICLES AT A USED CAR DEALERSHIP AND A UTILITY POLE. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS TOTALED ALONG WITH ONE OF THE USED VEHICLES. NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES WERE REPORTED. *AK *NM UPDATED 7/5/12 *CN
MY WIFE DROVE HER 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY INTO A PARKING SPACE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF A BEAUTY SHOP IN CANONSBURG, PA. AS SHE MOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR ACCELERATED INTO THE FRONT OF THE SHOP. AT THE TIME EVERYONE, INCLUDING ME, ASSUMED SHE WAS WRONG AND THAT SHE HAD STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR BY MISTAKE. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT REPORTS ABOUT TOYOTAS, I NOW BELIEVE HER. *TR
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH A WALL. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. *AK
WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. CONSUMER HEARD THE ENGINE MOTOR RACING. THIS OCCURRED WHILE PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE HIT A PARKED VEHICLE'S BUMPER, A POST, AND A FENCE BEFORE STOPPING. *AK INSURANCE CLAIMS DEPARTMENT SAID THAT A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING ON THE VEHICLE ON THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM WHICH GIVES INFORMATION TO THE THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. *LA
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACTUATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
I BOUGHT A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY LE IN JAN.04 AND TEST DROVE IT AND IT PULLED TO THE LEFT AND THE SALESPERSON SAID IT WAS TIRE PRESSURE SO THEY ADJUSTED IT. WE DROVE THE CAR A LONG DISTANCE AND THE WHOLE TIME IT PULLED TO THE LEFT. I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAS A TSB OUT ON 2003-2004 CAMRY'S WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES.
I PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY ON 7/14/03. WHEN MY SON RODE WITH ME ON 3/18/04 AND 3/26/04, HE HEARD A CLICKING NOISE THAT I WAS UNABLE TO HEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON 3/26/04. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 4000 MILES. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED AS A BEARING IN A ROD. THEY RECEIVED PERMISSION FROM TOYOTA TO PULL OUT THE ENGINE AND FOUND ANOTHER ROD TO BE BAD. THEY THEN DETERMINED THE CRANKSHAFT WAS FAULTY. I HAVE ALSO READ THE COMMENTS ON THE BRAKES. ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER HAD THE PEDAL GO TO THE FLOOR, THE PEDAL DOES DEPRESS FURTHER THAN WITH OTHER CARS. THESE ARE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. *JB
WHILE PARALLEL PARKING ON A HILL, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED HITTING A PARKED CAR. *PH *MR
WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE CAMRY LUNGED FORWARD GOING OVER TWO CONCRETE MEDIANS. IT TORE UP TWO WHEELS AND TIRES ON THE LEFT SIDE. *AK
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED, THEN IT ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HIT THE CURB. *AK THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. *SC *JB
WHEN COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ACCELERATOR STUCK, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL. VEHICLE GRAZED ANOTHER VEHICLE, WENT ACROSS A STREET, GRAZED A BUILDING, AND DROVE STRAIGHT INTO ANOTHER BUILDING. DRIVER WAS CONSCIOUS WHEN PARAMEDIC ARRIVED. THEY FOUND THE DRIVER WITH BOTH FEET STILL ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL, AND LATER DIED DUE TO FATAL INJURIES FROM THE CRASH. 2003 CAMRY LE HAS DEFECTIVE BRAKE ROTORS SINCE NEW. HAD PROBLEM IDENTIFIED SINCE 1000 MILES. HAS TAKEN ALMOST 1 YEAR SINCE PURCHASE TO GET NEW ROTORS ON CAR. ALWAYS FADES/ VIBRATES WHEN BRAKES ARE HOT.*AK
WHILE IN A PARKING LOT AND BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY HITTING A PEDESTRIAN. *AK ONE PERSON WAS INJURED AND ONE PERSON WAS KILLED IN THIS ACCIDENT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS GONE TO THE FLOOR WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO STOP OR SLOW THE CAR. BRAKING OR ACCELERATING THE CAR IS NOT SMOOTH AND THERE ARE SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS OR SURGES OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TESTED BY THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER AND BY THE SALESMAN. BOTH AGREED THAT THE CAR HAD SPONGY BRAKING BUT STATED THAT ALL 2003 CAMRYS BEHAVED IN SIMILAR FASHION AND THAT THERE WAS NO "FIX" FOR THE PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WHICH THEY WERE INVESTIGATING BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM SO THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ITS REPAIR.*AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT A TOLL BOOTH BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. AS A RESULT, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED HEAD AND BACK INJURIES, AND WERE TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.*AK

CONSUMER PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT AND STOPPED AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD ON A CONCRETE CURB. THE PLASTIC UNDER GUARD WAS PULLED OFF WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FREE THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 55-65 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO JERK EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSIONS. THE FOUR TRANSMISSIONS FAILED WITHIN 45,000 MILES. WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. ALSO, DURING BRAKING THERE WAS A DELAYED RESPONSE. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
WHILE DRIVING (2003 TOYOTA) 60 MPH ON INTERSTATE HWY WITH MODERATE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC, THE LEFT, REAR TIRE BLEW OUT AND COMPLETELY SEPERATED. POTENZA RE92 IS THE OEM VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, WENT INTO MAJOR SKID. *AK
ON A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIRE, IT HAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED AT THE SIDEWALL AND HAS PARTIALLY SEPARATED ON THE INSIDE. AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM (ANTI-SKID) ACTIVATED PREMATURELY ON TWO OCCASIONS. *PH
OUR 2003 LEASED TOYOTA CAMRY HAS BEEN GREAT FOR THE FIRST YEAR. WE CURRENTLY HAVE APPROX 5600 MILES ON THE CAR. DURING JANUARY AND FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR WE EXPERIENCED TWO SEPARATE ABS (ANTISKID BRAKE SYSTEM) ACTIVATIONS. IN BOTH INCIDENTS THE CAR WAS ON DRY, CLEAN, HARD SURFACED ROADS. THERE WAS NO GRAVEL, DIRT, ICE, ETC OR ANY FOREIGN MATTER ON THE ROADS. THE ROADS WERE ALSO DRY. NO RAIN WAS FALLING. IN BOTH INCIDENTS THE CAR WAS GONG LESS THAN 30 MPH AND IN BOTH CASES THE CAR WAS DESCENDING A SLIGHT HILL. WHEN THE OPERATOR APPLIED BRAKES THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND NO AMOUNT OF BRAKE PEDDLE PRESSURE CHANGED THE STOPPING ABILITY OF THE CAR. KICKBACK THRU THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS FELT BY ME. THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT MY WIFE WAS ALONE IN THE CAR AND COMING DOWN A HILL TO A STOP LIGHT. SHE COULD NOT STOP THE CAR BEFORE THE LIGHT AND HAD TO MAKE A HARD RIGHT HAND TURN TO PREVENT HITTING CARS OR BEING HIT BY CARS THAT WERE GOING 45+ MPH ON THEIR ROAD THRU THE LIGHT. AT THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY THERE HAD BEEN A BREAK IN TRAFFIC SO WHEN SHE TURNED RIGHT AT THE RED LIGHT THERE WAS A BREAK IN TRAFFIC SO THEREE WAS NO IMPACT. IN MY SITUATION I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE TO A SHOPPING CENTER AND WAS ALSO COMING DOWN A SLIGHT HILL AND COMING UP BEHIND TRAFFIC WHICH WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN. I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS GETTING KICKBACK THRU THE BRADE PEDDLE AND THE CAR BRAKES WERE CYCLING ON AND OFF AND THUS I HAD TO SWING AROUND THE CAR AHEAD AND ONTO THE RIGHTHAND SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR AHEAD AND ALMOST HAD TO CLIMB AN EMBACKMENT TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER MY INCIDENT, THE LATER OF THE TWO INCIDENTS, WE DROVE RIGHT TO OUR TOYOTA LEASING AGENCY AND TURNED THE CAR OVER TO THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT. TOYOTA GOT US A RENTAL VEHICLE WHILE THEY CHECK THE CAR OUT. SO FAR THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT IN CHECKING THE ABS COMPUTER IT SHOWS NO FAULT CODES. *AK

AS I WAS DRIVING UP THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME/HOUSE AND IN THE PROCESS OF APPLYING THE BRAKES TO MY 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY THE CAR SURGED FORWARD IMPACTING THE FROM OF MY BRICK HOUSE AND GOING INTO THE MASTER BEDROOM CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE AND TO PERSONAL PROPERTY INSIDE THE BEDROOM, ALSO THE CAR SUFFERED GREAT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT UP TO AND INCLUDING COMPLETE BREKAGE AND COLLAPSE OF THE WINSHIELD FOR A TOTAL CAR DAMAGED OF CLOSE TO $8.000.00 DOLLARAS AND OVER $5,000.00 DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE NOT INCLUDING THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE BEDROOM AND ITS CONTENTS. EXTIMATES OF THE COST OF REPAIRS STILL GOING ON. *AK
WINDSHIELD HAS ONE TINY MARK THAT I WOULD DESCRIBE EXACTLY THE WAY THE FIRST COMPLAINANT DESCRIBED IT, LIKE A TINY NAIL MARK. THE WINDSHIELD IS CRACKING BY THIS MARK. PERIODICALLY, I WOULD HEAR A LOUD NOISE LIKE A ROCK HAD HIT MY WINDSHIELD BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DISCERN WHAT HAD HAPPENED. IT WAS A MYSTERY BECAUSE THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES THAT I HEARD THE NOISE, THERE WERE NO VEHICLES AROUND ME THAT COULD HAVE THROWN A ROCK. AFTER HEARING THIS NOISE A FEW TIMES, A CRACK STARTED APPEARING AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAVE HAD THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW FROM EXAMINE IT AND THEY CLAIM IT WAS CAUSED BY A ROCK. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT WHEN IT HAPPENED I HAD MY STEREO ON AND DID NOT KNOW IT HAPPENED. BUT THE STARTLING SOUND THAT A ROCK DOES MAKE WHEN IT HITS THE WINDSHIELD WITH THAT MUCH FORCE IS HARD TO MISS. *JB

ENGINE REVS UP UNCONTROLLABLY WHILE IN PARK POSITION AND IN REVERSE ALSO. BRAKES HAVE WORKED SUFFUCIENTLY TO KEEP VEHICLE FROM CRASHING INTO ANYTHING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR ( A 10 MONTH PERIOD).*AK
THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION UPON MAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE HIT A CONCRETE WALL. THIS FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE TURNING RIGHT ONTO A MAIN STREET. *AK THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ANOTHER OCCASION, BUT THERE WAS NO COLLISION AS THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO MOVE UP BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. WHILE AT A STOP VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD AS IF WANTING TO ACCELERATE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF INCIDENCES OF POSSIBLE UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION OF MY 2003 CAMRY, WHERE CAR SEEMS TO SURGE FORWARD WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING.*AK
FAILURE OF AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY DURING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. VEHICLE TOTALED WITH MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE. *AK
THE OWNER INDICATED THAT THE DEFROSTER IN THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. WHEN THE OWNER PICKED UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES LOCKED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A TOLL BOOTH. THIS CAUSED A REAR END COLLISION UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY CONSUMER SUSTAINED A BRUISED CHEST, AND CONSUMER'S WIFE SUSTAINED 2 TWO BROKEN RIBS. CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN HE HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT IT WAS AS IF THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, AND EVEN THOUGH HE HAD FEET ON THE BRAKES, VEHICLE KEPT GOING. HE STATES THAT HE PUSHED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM, IMMEDIATELY CUT THE IGNITION OFF, PUT ON EMERGENCY BRAKES, AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. HE SAYS THAT THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED HE AND HIS WIFE WAS THE SEAT BELTS. CONSUMER STATED HE SAW ON TV THAT TOYOTA WAS RECALLING 2002-2003 CAMRYS FOR EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND IT HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE WASHED, THE CONSUMER MOVED THE GEAR SHIFT FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT AND INJURED A PEDESTRIAN STANDING IN BETWEEN THE TWO VEHICLES. I PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA SOLARA IN OCT. 2003. ON JANUARY 17, 2004 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH CARS ABOUT 50 YARDS OR MORE IN FRONT OF MINE AND NOTICED A CRACK IN THE CENTER OF MY WINDSHIELD THAT LOOKED LIKE IT STATED AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE UNTIL IT CAME UP ABOUT 10 INCHES FROM THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND CLEAR OVER TO THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (NOT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR) TO LOOK AT IT. THE SERVICE TECH. SAID SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT IT BECAUSE THE HE SAW A CHIP IN THE GLASS JUST TO THE RIGHT OF THE CRACK ABOUT 2-3 MILLIMETERS IN DIAMETER AND ABOUT 1-2 MILLIMETERS IN DEPTH. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT AT ANY CHARGE TO ME. I KNOW NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND I FEEL THE GLASS IS DEFECTIVE AND CRACKED DUE TO THE COLD OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE AND HEAT FROM THE DEFROSTER.

THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO CRASH INTO A WALL AND DAMAGED THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. *JB THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION OCCURRED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO MAKE A TURN. THE SECOND TIME, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, IT COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE THIRD INCIDENT, THE CONSUMER CRASHED INTO A WALL.
