I WAS IN A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU. AS THE LINE MOVED, I TAPPED MY GAS LIGHTLY TO MOVE A BIT FORWARD AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR CONTINUED TO LUNGE FORWARD EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE! I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TOTALLY. I MADE MY REPORT TO ALLSTATE. I ALSO CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT ONE OF THE CARS RECALLED WITH THAT TYPE OF PROBLEM, AND HUNG UP ON ME. A FEW MONTHS LATER, A NEWS REPORT SHOWED JUST THE OPPOSITE. THEY STILL HAVE NOT INSPECTED MY CAR. ALSO, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON ALTHOUGH WE HAVE HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND THE MECHANIC CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIGHT STAYING ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD DEVELOPED A CRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. TWO (2) SEPARATE INCIDENTS: BOTH TIMES, ACCELERATOR STUCK AND CAR HAD TO BE PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND BRAKE PEDAL AND PARKING BRAKE USED TO STOP VEHICLE. DEFINITELY NOTHING STUCK ON/UNDER ACCELERATOR EITHER TIME. HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE ASAP TO STOP THE ENGINE FROM RACING TO VERY HIGH RPMS. 1. HAPPENED FIRST WHEN PARALLEL PARKING THE CAR. SPEED < 5MPH. APPROX MAY, 2007. CLEAR WEATHER. APPROX 60 DEGREES. HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN CAR WAS RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. CAR WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. STARTED AND OPERATED OK WHEN RESTARTED AFTER THIS BREAK. 2. HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN FROM ABOUT 45 MPH. APPROX SEPT, 2008. PARTLY CLOUDY WEATHER. NO RAIN. APPROX 60 DEGREES. CAR WAS THEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. OPERATED OK WHEN RESTARTED AFTER THIS BREAK. NOT SURE OF EXACT DATES BUT IT COULD BE RECONSTRUCTED FROM DEALER RECORDS, IF NECESSARY. TOOK TO TWO SEPARATE TOYOTA DEALERS AND WAS TOLD BY EACH: "...NOTHING WRONG WITH CAR". "CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM." "KEEP AN EYE ON IT..." *TR
THE 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA V6 HAD CONSISTENT BRAKE FAILURE. A VERY REPUTABLE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE DEFECT WAS IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER, BLED BRAKES, CHECKED PRESSURE ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER 'S SPECS AND CHECKED OUT CORRECTLY. -EXHAUSTED POSSIBILITIES FOR REASONS FOR SPORADIC BRAKE FAILURE. ONLINE RESEARCH DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. NO SOLUTION POSTED TO DATE. CONCERN REGARDING CONTINUING SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO UNEXPECTED FAILURE, AND LOW PEDAL INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCE. *AK
WHAT AUTO MANUFACTURER HAS MORE MANUFACTURER DEFECTS THAN ALL THE OTHER AUTO MANUFACTURERS? *JB
2004 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN STEERING COLUMN AND MAKE NOISE WHEN MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. DEALER STATES THAT IT IS JUST A NOISE BUT WOULD REPLACE LOWER COLUMN AT A COST OF $463.65. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE IN WHICH THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER IS AWARE. THIS IN MY HUMBLE OPINION SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM PAID FOR BY TOYOTA. THIS IS MY FOURTH TOYOTA AND I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES LIKE THIS BEGINNING AT 39,000. NOISE WAS SMALLER AND ONLY NOTICED ON LEFT TURNS AT FIRST NOW MUCH LOUDER AND OCCURS ON LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. ON APRIL 4, 2008, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE APPROACHING A STOP. THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES LOCKED. THE VEHICLE THEN SPED ACROSS THE STREET, GRAZED A RETAINING WALL, AND STRUCK A FENCE IN SOMEONE'S BACKYARD. THE VEHICLE ALSO GRAZED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES AND WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. SHE STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED A MILDER INCIDENT OF SURGING BEFORE, BUT SHE HAD MORE CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING IT IN APRIL OF 2007. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT YET NOTIFIED TOYOTA. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 04/23/08 *BF
ON APRIL 02, 2007 I HAD A CAR ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY LE DOOR SEDAN. AS I WAS DRIVING TO MY WAY TO ARIZONA TO VISIT SOME FAMILY MEMBERS I WAS DRIVING IN A NORMAL SPEED OUT OF THE SUDDEN THE PEDAL OF THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT WORK I TRIED TO CONTROL MY CAR BUT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STOPPED THE CAR. AS CONSEQUENCE THE CAR FLIP OVER AND I GOT INJURED. ON THE SAME WEEK OF APRIL 02. 2007 I HAD TAKEN MY CSR TO A TOYOTA DEALER TO DO A FULL SERVICE. ON APRIL SECOND A TOYOTA DEALER ASSOCIATES CALLED ME BUT I WAS NOT THERE SO MY MOM ANSWERED THE PHONE AND THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM TOYOTA HAD CALLED TO SEE HOW MY BRAKES WERE WORKING. *TR
MIL "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON MORNING OF FRIDAY MARCH 30, 1997. CAR PERFORMED NORMAL FOR MOST OF DAY (35 MILES) UPON START THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR. SUBSEQUENT RESTARTS VARY FROM NO RESPONSE TO SUDDEN SURGE OF ACCELERATION TO VERY LOW POWER AND STALLS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN A/C BUTTON STARTED FLASHING AND ALL WINDOWS FOGGED UP. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3-31-07, THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSIS AND REPLACED A/C MAGNETIC CLUTCH RELAY. NEXT HEAVY RAIN ON APRIL 14, 2007, THE AC/BUTTON STARTED FLASHING AND ALL WINDOWS FOGGED UP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY SHORTING WHEN WET. REPLACED CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. IN AUGUST, DURING A HEAVY RAIN, THE A/C BUTTON STARTED FLASHING AND ALL WINDOWS FOGGED UP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE A/C BELT WAS NOT TIGHT. THEY TIGHTEN THE A/C BELT AND SAID IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THE BELT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. TODAY, OCTOBER 15, 2007, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH ONLY 19,993 MILES ON IT. THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS DEFECTIVE. REFER TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ST001-06. I HEARD CLANKING AND POPPING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE STEERING SHAFT. THE STEERING FELT LOOSE AND SLOPPY. AFTER READING THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN I BELIEVED TOYOTA DISCOVERED THE FAULTY PART IN PRODUCTION AND EVENTUALLY CHANGED TO A NEW PART. I WAS DISAPPOINTED TOYOTA CHARGED ME FOR LABOR TO FIX A PART THAT WAS DEFECTIVE FROM THE BEGINNING. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THE PART AND REPLACED IT FOR FREE.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS AT A CAR WASH. SHE STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL/ WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY WASHED, THE GREEN LIGHT ILLUMINATED TO INDICATE THE CONTACT COULD PROCEED. SHE PUT THE GEAR INTO DRIVE AND LIGHTLY PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TWO TO FOUR SECONDS TO A SPEED OF 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A NEARBY POLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND NECK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED ACCORDINGLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,190 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 54,000. UPDATED 09/22/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED SHE TURNED THE WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO AVOID HITTING A CONCRETE WALL, AND INSTEAD SHE HIT A LIGHT POLE. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 09/22/10
BRAKE LINES FAILED CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKES
I OWN A TOYOTA CAMRY 2004, AND JUST BOUGHT TOYOTA CAMRY 2007. CAMRY 2004 WORKED FINE IN THE BEGINNING, BUT SINCE LAST YEAR THE BRAKES FELT TOO SOFT. I TOOK IT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES, BUT THEY ALWAYS SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL. BUT I DROVE IT EVERYDAY, SO I KNOW THAT IT WAS NOT NORMAL. I COULD NOT GO ABOVE 60 MPH ON HIGHWAY BECAUSE I COULD NOT DEPEND ON THE BRAKES, ESPECIALLY IN WINTER. I GOT LUCKY AND AVOIDED ACCIDENTS ALMOST 10 TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS BRAKES. IT JUST WON'T WORK ON TIME. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS CAR. SO WHEN TIME CAME FOR ME TO BUY THE NEW CAR, I WENT TO TOYOTA AND TRIED OUT NEW 2007 CAMRY AND BOUGHT IT. I BOUGHT 2007 CAMRY ONLY BECAUSE I LIKED THE BRAKES. I EVEN TOLD THE STAFF OF THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME THING TOO. BUT WITHIN IN FEW WEEKS I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE BRAKES STARTED BECOMING SOFT. I NEEDED TO KNOW HOW COULD THIS BE FIXED. 2007 CAMRY WHICH I STILL DRIVE ISN'T AS BAD AS 2004. BUT I CAN'T SAY IT FOR SURE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN IN FUTURE. HOW CAN I HAVE THIS BRAKES FIXED? THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM. IT IS NOT NORMAL , THEY SAY IT IS. *AK
MALFUNCTION OF MY SUNROOF IN MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY SE. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED COMMON PROBLEM... *TR

WHILE COMING OUT OF THE CAR WASH AND SWITCHING THE POSITION GEAR FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO ALMOST 50 MPH FOR ABOUT 20-30 SECONDS, CAUSING IT TO CRASH INTO A POLE. THE CONTACT TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKE, BUT COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. CONTACT CAN PROVIDE PICTURES IF NEEDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 26,190.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO PERFORMANCE AND REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE AND VEER TO THE RIGHT. PERFORMANCE DODGE PICKED UP VEHICLE FOR A 2ND REPAIR AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT A DAMP MOUNT ON RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS MISSING. THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED TO CONSUMER ON 4/27/07 BUT CONSUMER IS STILL FEARFUL TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 05/13/07*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED INCREASE OF ACCELERATION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A STEEL POLE. THE FRONTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITH THE LEVEL OF IMPACT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND NECK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE BODY DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE WAS ESTIMATED AT THE COST OF $16,000. THE CAUSE FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THAT TIME. IN ADDITION, THE IDENTICAL UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR YEARS LATER. THERE WERE NO INJURES IN THAT INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000. UPDATED 09/22/10. *LJ UPDATED 09/23/10
SHORTLY AFTER WE PURCHASED A NEW 2004 CAMRY SEDAN, WE BEGAN NOTICING LOOSENESS, RATTLING, KNOCKING SOUNDS AND "PLAY" IN THE STEERING CHARACTERISTICS. IN ADDITION, IN SLOW, TIGHT-RADIUS TURNS (AS IN PARKING LOTS), IT ALMOST FELT AS IF THE FRONT TIRES WOULD SLIDE LATERALLY OVER SLICK SURFACES -- SNOW, ICE, LOOSE GRAVEL, WET PAVEMENT. THE PROBLEM WAS SUBTLE AT FIRST BUT BECAME GRADUALLY MORE NOTICEABLE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THERE WAS A BARELY-PERCEPTIBLE OSCILLATION OR VIBRATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. AT ABOUT 28K MILES WE NOTICED A PULLING TO THE RIGHT. WE ASKED FOR AN ALIGNMENT TO BE DONE AND THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE KNOCKING, RATTLING, LOOSENESS, PLAY, LATERAL SKIDDING IN TIGHT-RADIUS TURNS BECAME WORSE OVER TIME AND AT ABOUT 50K MILES WE ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK AGAIN. DEALERS SERVICE ORDER STATED, "TSB ST001-06 APPLIES TO THIS CONCERN. AN UPDATED STEERING SHAFT ORDERED." THE COST TO REPAIR WAS OVER $400. WE BELIEVE THIS DEFECT EXISTED FROM THE TIME THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED, AND THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM SOUNDS SIMILAR TO RECALLS OR DEFECTS I HAVE RESEARCHED THAT AFFECT THE PRIUS, AVALON, AND OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES. WE BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. *JB
I AM REPORTING THIS DUE TO THE RECALL ON THE 2004 COROLLA FOR DEFECTIVE PASSENGER WINDOW MECHANISM. I HAVE A 2004 SOLARA THAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. TOYOTA REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, EVEN WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE WINDOW, WHEN ROLLED UP WOULD NOT STOP BECAUSE PART OF THE WINDOW MECHANISM CAME LOOSE AND FELL OFF. *TR
THIS INCIDENT INVOLVES CHANGING A FLAT TIRE (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE) ON MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE A TIRE SINCE I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2004. I LOOSENED THE LUG NUTS SLIGHTLY AND THEN PLACED THE JACK UNDER THE CAR AS INDICATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. AS I STARTED TO RAISE THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE JACK WAS TWISTING UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. I THEN LOWERED THE VEHICLE, REPOSITIONED THE JACK AND TRIED AGAIN. THE JACK APPEARED TO BE SLIGHTLY TWISTED BUT NOT AS MUCH AS THE FIRST ATTEMPT. I REMOVED THE LUG NUTS AND TOOK OFF THE FLAT TIRE. AT THIS TIME THE JACK FELL OVER AND THE CAR CAME TO REST ON THE WHEEL ROTOR. THE CAR WAS ON LEVEL GROUND DURING THIS INCIDENT. MY FEELING IS THAT THIS JACK IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY DESIGNED TO LIFT A VEHICLE OF THIS WEIGHT AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT HAD A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT WINDOW DEFROSTER TURNED OFF/FAILED WHEN WATER SPLASHED ONTO THE VEHICLE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING UNDER RAINY CONDITIONS AT 35 MPH. . THE WINDOWS FOGGED UP AND SHE HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW TO SEE. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SAW THAT THE DEFROSTER LIGHT AND THE AIR RECIRCULATION LIGHT WERE FLASHING. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE DEFROSTER STARTED WORKING AGAIN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS SPLASHED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. *AK UPDATED 2/22/2007 -THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE WAS HER FAULT. *NM
WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD A JERKING MOTION AND A KNOCKING NOISE. CONTACTED DEALER AND SAID IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE ON OCCASSION. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER AND REPLACED A LOWER STEERING SHAFT TO A NEWER VERSION. COMMENT WAS THAT THIS CAR WAS A NEW DESIGN AND THIS PARTICULAR PART NEEDED REPLACEMENT. MY PROBLEM IS THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THE OLD PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ME TO TAKE IT. *NM
2004 TOYOTA CAMRY - THE FRONT BREAKS WITH ABS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE HAS SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE BREAKS HAVE FAILED TO STOP THE CAR ON SNOW - THE ABS SYSTEM PULSATES TOO FAST. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A DRY ROAD AT A TURN AS WELL. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - TRY TO ADDRESS THIS DEFECT BEFORE SOMEONE GET'S KILLED. *NM
2004 TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLE DESIGN FLAW. REAR SEAT BACKS ARE TOO HIGH AND BLOCK VISION OUT OF REAR WINDOW. VERY DIFFICULT WHEN TRYING TO BACK UP OR CHANGE LANES. 2007 MODEL YEAR HAS REDESIGNED THE BACK SEATS TO ALLOW GREATER VISION. *JB
MY INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS CRACKED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR COST IS $500+. A REVIEW OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN TOYOTA VEHICLES. THE REPLACEMENT SHAFT HAS BEEN REDESIGNED, INDICATING THIS PART HAD A DESIGN FLAW. COMPLETE FAILURE OF THIS PART CAN LEAD TO SUDDEN STEERING LOSS. A SAFETY RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN ISSUED IN OTHER COUNTRIES (JAPAN AND CANDA, FOR EXAMPLE) FOR THE PRIUS, ALTHOUGH THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS IN MOST TOYOTA MODELS. A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED IN THE U.S. FOR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED. THE CONTACT WAS STILL ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I BOUGHT A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM A TOYOTA DEALER, GREEN BROOK, NJ ON JUNE 2004. IT CAME WITH GOODYEAR 205/R60/15 TIRES. I ONLY DROVE MAINLY ON CITY ROADS AND THE MILEAGE IS ONLY 20,500 MILES. I ROTATED FOUR TIRES ONCE IN THE PAST TWO YEARS. I, HOWEVER, AM SHOCKED TO FIND THAT THE TIRE TREADS IN RADIAL DIRECTION (ACROSS FROM THE CENTER TREAD TO THE OUTER RIM) OF ALL FOUR TIRES WERE TOTALLY GONE TODAY WHEN I VISITED A CAR SHOP FOR OIL CHANGE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING CAR SLIDING ON WET ROAD SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BUT I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS. THE TECHNICIAN IN THE CAR POINTED OUT THE TREAD PROBLEM TO ME THAT THE CAR SLIDING PROBLEM IS BECAUSE THE WORN-OUT OUTER TREAD COULD NOT EXPEL WATER OUT FROM THE INNER CENTER TREAD. HE WARNED ME THE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ON DRIVING SUCH WORN-OUT TIRES ON A WATERY OR ICED ROAD SURFACE. I CHECKED YOUR PRODUCT INFORMATION THAT STATES THE TIRE WARRANTY IS 80,000 MILES. HOW COULD THIS WORN-OUT TREAD PROBLEM HAPPEN WHEN THE MILEAGE ONLY REACHES A QUARTER OF THE WARRANTY. I HAVE CHECKED THE INTERNET THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE SPECIFIED TO THE TOYOTA CAMRY 2004. THROTTLE LAG AT LOW SPEED AND FROM STOP IS INCONSISTENT AND HAS BEEN THE CAUSE FOR SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED; DEALER INVESTIGATED; RELOADED SOFTWARE AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. TOYOTA STATES THIS IS NORMAL AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE." IN JANUARY 2011 I EXPERIENCED A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS I WAS ENTERING A MAJOR HIGHWAY THAT SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME. I DROVE IN THE RIGHT-HAND LANE AND DROPPED MY SPEED UNTIL THE VIBRATION STOPPED. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK OUT THE STEERING MECHANISM AND HE WAS NOT ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO HAD WHEEL ALIGNMENTS DURING THE PAST FIVE YEARS. I AM HAVING TROUBLE STEERING WHEN I MAKE LEFT- OR RIGHT-HAND TURNS IN ADDITION TO HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL (WHICH BECOMES STRESSFUL DURING LONG DRIVING TRIPS). WHILE DRIVING SOUTH ON US75 IN FLORIDA THE LEATHER COVER (KNOWN AS TONNEAU OR BOOT) THAT COVERS THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WHEN IT IS IN THE DOWN POSITION JUST FLEW OFF THE CAR. I WATCHED IT GO UNDER A TRACTOR TRAILER AND THE CAR BEHIND THE TRAILER HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID IT ALMOST CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I GOT OFF THE NEXT EXIT AND WENT BACK TO RECOVER IT BUT IT WAS GONE. IT MAY HAVE BEEN DRAGGED AWAY UNDER A TRACTOR TRAILER. PRIOR TO THIS I INSPECTED THE COVER ATTACHMENT EACH TIME I STOPPED FOR GAS OR FOOD BECAUSE AT TIMES I DID SEE IT FLUTTER WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND FELT UNCOMFORTABLE ABOUT IT. THE LEATHER COVER IS HELD IN PLACE BY U SHAPED HOOKS THAT CAN EASILY COME OFF WHEN PRESSURE IS EXERTED ON THE COVER. ON VERY WINDY DAYS WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS THE COVER FLUTTERS AND CAN AND DID COME OFF THE CAR. THE COVER IS A LARGE OBJECT ABOUT 4 FT. BY 2 FT. AND WHEN IT BECOMES AIRBORNE IT CAN AND ALMOST DID CAUSE A SERIOUS AND POSSIBLY FATAL ACCIDENT. I WAS RECENTLY IN A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND SAW THAT THE NEW SOLARA CONVERTIBLE NOW HAS SAFETY STRAPS ATTACHED TO THE COVER. THIS SAFETY IMPROVEMENT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA REALIZED THE VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT EXISTED. THIS REALIZATION MAY HAVE BEEN PROMPTED BY SOLARA CONVERTIBLE OWNERS REPORTING INCIDENTS SIMILAR TO MINE. UNFORTUNATELY THE COVER ON ALL TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLES PRIOR TO THIS SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAN STILL UNINTENTIONALLY COME OFF AND CAUSE VERY SERIOUS AND POSSIBLY FATAL ACCIDENTS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 04' CAMRY LIMITED EDITION WITH MICHELIN P235/45/18 MXM4 FACTORY INSTALLED TIRES AT 70 MILES AN HOUR ONE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE COMPANY WAS SENT AN E-MAIL OUTLINING THE INCIDENT. THEY ASK US TO BRING THE TIRE IN TO BE CHECKED. AFTER EXAMINATION WE WERE TOLD THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A SMALL PUNCTURE THE SIZE OF A TOOTH PICK IN THE CENTER OF THE TIRE. THE RIP IN THE TIRE WHERE IT BLEW WAS ABOUT 8" LONG AND WAS RIGHT AT THE AREA OF WHERE THE BELT MEETS THE SIDE WALL. THE EVENT CAUSED MY WIFE TO BECOME EXTREMELY UPSET. WE HAVE ORDERED 4 NEW TIRES FROM COSTCO BECAUSE MY WIFE DOES NOT BELIEVE THE COMPANY'S FINDINGS. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION BY ME I NOTICED THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE RUBBER WAS EXTREMELY DAMAGED ONLY ON ONE SIDE THAT BLEW IN A CIRCLE WHERE THE BELT JOINS THE SIDE WALL. THE OPPOSITE SIDE WAS IN PRISTINE CONDITION. WE HAVE OUR CARS DEALER SERVICED ROUTINELY. THE NEW TIRES HAVE COST US MORE THAN $1000.00 FOR 4 NEW TIRES. WE DO NOT ACCEPT THE COMPANY'S FINDINGS AND WISH TO GO ON THE RECORD REGARDING THIS TIRE FAILURE INCIDENT.
