REAR SPEAKER GRILL COVERS DISINTIGRATED AND CRUMBLED AS A RESULT OF SUN EXPOSURE. *TR
ON JULY 5 2008, I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 67,000 MILES ON IT ON I95 IN BREVARD CO. FL. AS I ACCELERATED A LITTLE TO PASS INTO THE LEFT LANE, MY CAR TOOK OFF AND PROCEEDED TO GO FASTER EVEN THOUGH I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS, MY ENGINE DIED. I MANAGED TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE SHOULDER. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, I FINALLY GOT THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY THERE WAS AN EXIT CLOSE BY AND I SLOWLY DROVE MY CAR OFF I95 AND STRAIGHT TO MIKE ERDMAN TOYOTA IN MERRITT ISLAND. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY TOLD ME I WAS "LUCKY" THAT MY CAR CHOSE TO SHUT OFF AS A LADY IN MERRITT ISLAND HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO HER BUT HER CAR DIDN'T STOP UNTIL IT RAN INTO A BANK! MY TOTAL BILL, PARTS AND LABOR WERE $1048.26 PLUS ANOTHER $99.64 FOR THE RENTAL CAR FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF $1147.90. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, I WENT ONTO THE TOYOTA WEBSITE AND FILED A COMPLAINT AS I DON'T THINK A CAR WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE SHOULD HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO IT. (NEVER HEARD FROM TOYOTA) I ALSO DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT 100'S OF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEIR TOYOTA'S, MOSTLY CAMRY'S MODELS FROM 2003 - 2006. CHECK OUT THE THROTTLE BODY TOPIC ON TOPIX.COM....LOTS OF ANGRY CAMRY OWNERS WITH THROTTLE BODY ISSUES! THIS PART SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED....WE WANT OUR REPAIR MONEY BACK!!! *TR
DRIVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT, LOOKING FOR A PARKING SPACE IN A SHOPPING PLAZA, MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY SUDDENLY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY TO A HIGH SPEED,FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE AIR CONDITIONER, WHICH WAS ON LOW, WENT ON FULL BLAST WITHOUT TOUCHING THE AC CONTROLS AND SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE CAR ACCELERATED. IN SPITE OF THE FULL APPLICATION OF MY BRAKES, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I WAS IN SHOCK AND PANIC. I HIT A HANDICAP SIGN THAT FELL OVER AND DAMAGED TWO PARKED CARS. I NEARLY STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN, NOT TO MENTION ALMOST INJURING OR KILLING MYSELF. AFTER TRAVELING 372 FEET, I ENDED UP CRASHING INTO PALLETS OF FENCE MATERIAL. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND REPAIRED. COST OF ACCIDENT, INCLUDING MEDICAL EXPENSES WAS APPROXIMATELY $22,000. (THE PEDESTRIAN WAS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL FOR MINOR INJURIES AND I, ALSO, WENT TO HOSPITAL TO BE CHECKED.) SADLY ENOUGH, MY LICENSE TO DRIVE WAS REVOKED AS A RESULT OF THIS ORDEAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE IDLING IN TRAFFIC, SHE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE ENTIRE ACCELERATED PEDAL ASSEMBLY. HOWEVER THE DRIVER-SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT PROPERLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I HAVE MANY CRACKS ALL OVER MY DASHBOARD, ESPECIALLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BY THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. I HAVE 80K MILES ON MY CAR AND IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD INTERFERE WITH THE AIR BAGS. THIS IS A GARAGE KEPT VEHICLE. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2004 CAMRY ABOUT A MONTH AGO FROM MY LOCAL TOYOTA USED CAR DEALER. A WEEK LATER I TOLD THEM FRONT-END FELT FUNNY AND NEEDED TO BE CHECKED. THEY SAID I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. HAD THAT DONE. CALLED THEM LAST WEEK AND SAID I STILL FEEL LIKE THERE'S SOME SORT OF FRONT-END PROBLEM. MY BRAKE PEDAL IS SPONGY AND ALMOST TO THE GROUND. SOMETIMES I'M NOT SURE IF I'M GOING TO STOP IN TIME. ALSO TOLD THEM MY STEERING WHEEL WAS SHIMMYING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS PROBABLY INDICATING A TIRE BALANCE ISSUE AND THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $50 TO BALANCE/ROTATE MY TIRES. I DECIDED TO PUT THE MONEY TOWARD NEW FRONT TIRES INSTEAD HOPING THAT WOULD ALSO REDUCE ROAD NOISE. AS FOR THE BRAKES.... I WAS TOLD THAT WAS STANDARD FOR THE CAMRY MODELS AND WAS A KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE BUT NO CORRECTIONS WERE IN PLACE THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF. LAST WEEKEND I WAS IN A CRASH. MY BRAKES FAILED! MY ABS DID NOT ENGAGE AND MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30-40 MPH ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE PERSON IN FRONT HIT THEIR BRAKES. I HIT MINE AND CONTINUED TO SKID INTO THE BACK OF THEIR VEHICLE. I HAD PLENTY OF ROOM TO STOP. THERE'S NO REASON OTHER THAN BRAKE FAILURE FOR ME TO HAVE CRASHED. *TR
THE INNER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT BECAME DETATCHED ON MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY 4 DR LE SEDAN. IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE AND THE COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $950.00. TOYOTA WOULD DO NOTHING BECAUSE THEY SAID THE CAR HAD 60,000 MILES ON IT AND IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. ALSO THE REAR STRUTS WORE OUT AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT TO NO AVAIL. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A TREE. THE PASSENGER OF THE VEHICLE WAS KILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *9/15/2011*CW
THE STEERING COLUMN HAS FAILED ON MY 2004 CAMRY. A LITTLE BROWSING OF THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAMRY MODEL. MY DEALER IN COVINGTON, LA HAS SAID THAT ABOUT 1 IN 8 CAMRY'S HAVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT WOULD NOT OFFER TO HELD REPAIR MY VEHICLE SINCE ONLY THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY REMAINS. A CALL TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE YIELDED THE SAME RESULTS. THE STEERING WHEEL MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AT SLOW SPEEDS, AND THE DEALER (NORTHSHORE TOYOTA IN COVINGTON, LA) HAS TOLD ME MY STEERING BEARINGS ARE "SHOT." THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST REPORTED TO MY DEALER AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES. *TR
ON APRIL 15,2008 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY DOWN OUR STREET WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WENT INTO IDLE AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. I HAD A EXTENDED WARRANTY STILL IN EFFECT SINCE THE CAR ONLY HAD 42,393 MILES ON THE CAR SO I CALLED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR. WE HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEM SINCE BUT I AM AFRAID THAT THE REPLACED SENSOR MAY BE DEFECTIVE AND COULD CAUSE UNWANTED ACCELERATION/DECELERATION SINCE IT WAS REPLACED IN 2008. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE NEWLY REPLACED ACCELERATOR SENSOR MAY NOT BE SAFE EITHER CONSIDERING ALL THE RECENT REPORTS. PLEASE USE YOUR POWER AND GET TOYOTA TO ADD THE 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY TO THEIR RECALL LIST BEFORE OTHER SERIOUS PROBLEMS OCCUR. THANKS FOR YOUR SERIOUS CONSIDERATION ON THIS MATTER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE PULLED INTO HER DRIVEWAY AND ACTIVATED THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER. THE DOOR HAD OPENED ABOUT 2/3 WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE HER FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. THE GARAGE DOOR WAS KNOCKED OFF THE TRACK AND THE VEHICLE HIT A WORKBENCH. SEVERE CRACKING OVER AIR BAG COVER ON PASSENGER SIDE. FEAR THAT AIR BAGS ARE COMPROMISED AND WILL NOT DEPLOY OR DEPLOY PREMATURELY. ALSO THAT SHARP PIECES OF BROKEN DASHBOARD WILL HARM OTHERS IN CAR. *TR
2004 TOYOTA CAMRY, HAS HAD SPONGY BRAKES FROM NEW, DEALER SAID THIS WAS NORMAL. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE, AND IF YOU PUMP THE BRAKES AND HOLD THEM YOU GO RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. IF YOU ARE STOPPING SLOWLY THE BRAKES RESPOND VERY POORLY. *TR
MY CAR HAS BEEN MAKING A STEERING WELL/UNDER THE HOOD POPING NOISE SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED IT. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT KNOWS WHERE IT IS COMING FROM, THE STEERING WHEEL AND POSSIBLY TENSION BELT, BUT HAS TOLD ME TO HOLD OFF UNTIL A RECALL. MY MOTHER IN ANOTHER STATE, AS WELL AS MY COUSIN HAS THE SAME ISSUE. IF TOYOTA HAS A LEAD ON THE MARKET, WHY CAN'T THEY HONESTLY HONOR THEIR REPAIRS. *TR
IT WAS MARCH 2008 AND I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF A STORE (SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR AS I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT AND HAD TO STOP BEFORE I PULLED INTO THE SPACE); IT WAS 1:00 IN THE AFTERNOON (BEAUTIFUL, SUNNY DAY); THE CAR TOUCHED THE CURB, MADE A REVVING SOUND, JUMPED THE CURB AND I WAS HITTING THE BRAKE (SAYING "WHY WON'T IT STOP?") BUT IT WENT INTO THE STOREFRONT WINDOW. I WAS 55 AT THE TIME, NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT (CAUSED BY ME), AND A VERY GOOD DRIVING RECORD SINCE 16. IT WAS NOT REPORTED VIA THE POLICE; ONLY THE MALL SECURITY BECAUSE IT WAS A PARKING LOT. MY INSURANCE COVERED IT (CAR & BUILDING). I HAVE THE REPAIR RECORDS BUT NO PARTS. I WAS TOTALLY DISMISSED BY EVERYONE WHEN I SAID THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP, HENCE I DOUBTED MYSELF. MY FRIEND & I BOTH HAD OUR SEAT BELTS ON AND NO ONE WAS INJURED (THANK GOD NO ONE WAS WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE SPACE). I ASKED THE REPAIR PLACE TO CHECK MY ACCELERATOR & PEDAL BUT SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. *TR
ACCIDENT ON MARCH 14TH, 2008. 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS HIT IN PASSANGER DOOR BY CAR GING APPROX. 45 MPH. I WAS THE DRIVER OF THE CAMRY. THE SIDE AND CURTAIN AIRBAGS FAILED TO DELPOY. I SUFFERED SOME BLUNT HEAD TRAMA AND WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 2 DAYS. THE CAMRY WAS TOTALED.

I HAD PROBLEMS WITH CAR 1ST DAY. THEY EVEN GAVE ME A FREE SUNROOF AND 3 FREE OIL CHANGE DUE TO THE PROBLEM AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FIX. BUT STILL HAVING PROBLEM. NOW MY CADILLAC COMVOR IS OUT AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX AFTER SAYING IT WAS COVERED. AND MY CAR IS ONLY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. *TR

WHILE STOPPED AT A FULL STOP SIGN ANOTHER CAR REARENDED ME DOING ABOUT 55 MILES PER HOUR, PUSHING ME INTO THE CROSS STREET WHERE MY AUTO HIT A STOP SIGN AND POLE TOTALING THE AUTO WITH DAMAGE TO THE REAR,COMPLETE DRIVERS SIDE AND FRONT OF THE AUTO. HITTING THE STOP SIGN AND POLE AT ABOUT 55 MPH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING INJURY AND BEING TAKEN TO THE TRAUMA CENTER AT UCD MEDICAL CENTER. *TR
JUST HAD TO COMPLETELY REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION IN MY TOYOTA CAMRY 04. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND I HAVE HEARD FROM MANY OTHERS THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE SINCE THE 2002 CAMRY. HAVING TO PAY $3000 FOR A SUPPOSEDLY #1 CAR THAT I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD FOR FOUR YEARS IS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL IF IT IS THAT COMMON AN OCCURRENCE! EXCESSIVE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AND WEAK BRAKES. I HAVE NORMAL DRIVING HABITS AND HAVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. THE BRAKES ARE OK FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE GOING BAD AGAIN. THE BRAKING DISTANCE IS VERY BAD AND BRAKE RESPONSE IS DANGEROUSLY SLOW. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. *TR
2004 TOYOTA SOLARA DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT THIS WAS A CERTIFIED USED CAR FROM FREMONT TOYOTA OF FREMONT CALIFORNIA. FOUND OUT LATER THAT NO SIDE AIRBAGS OF THAT YEAR OR ANY NEW TOYOTA ARE RATED. *TR
IN PARKING GARAGE I WANTED TO BACK UP FROM POST. I PUT CAR IN REVERSE AND HAD FOOT ON BRAKE. WHEN I RELEASED BRAKE SLIGHTLY, THE ENGINE ROARED AND THE CAR LUNGED BACK AND EVEN WITH MY FOOT MASHING ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR JUMPED A CURB IN THE GARAGE AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT HIT AN SUV AND KNOCKED IT INTO A BRICK WALL. MY PASSENGER SUFFERED A SUBDURAL HEMATOMA AND WAS HOSPITALIZED IN PORTLAND, OR DURING CHRISTMAS VACATION. SHE HAD TO REMAIN IN PORTAND 30 DAYS UNTIL SHE HAD A CLEAR CTSCAN. JANUARY 21, 2013 I WAS STOPPED FOR STOP SIGN WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN SAME VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AT ABOUT 30 MPH. I HAD A REPEAT WHEN I WAS BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN FOR A TURN, AND VEHICLE JUST LUNGED FORWARD AND IT TOOK ME HALF A BLOCK TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. ON JANUARY 26, 2013 I HAD A REPEAT OF THE STOP SIGN INCIDENT. I HAD FOOT ON BRAKE AND WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP, WHEN CAR LUNGED FORWARD. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO CARS COMING AND I SAFELY MADE A LEFT TURN AS IT WAS A DEAD END STREET. AGAIN IT TOOK ME ABOUT HALF A BLOCK TO GET THE CAR TO COME TO A STOP AGAIN. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR AND HAVE LEFT IT WITH A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND HAD BRAKES REPAIRED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SERVICE MANAGER, RICK, AND AT HQ, [XXX], ABOUT MY ISSUES. TOYOTA HAS POLITELY BRUSHED ME OFF LIKE A PIECE OF LINT BOTH FOR THE ACCIDENT IN 2007 AND MY CURRENT ISSUES. I HAVE JOINED THE CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA AND AM REQUESTING THE BRAKE OVERRIDE AS A STOP-GAS MEASURE. FRONT SEAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE MOVES WHEN DRIVING (STOP FOR TRAFFIC OR START AFTER STOPPING) WAS ADVISED THEIR IS NO PROBLEM. PROBLEMS WITH THE SUNROOF. CABLES BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY, ROOF IS NOT ABLE TO BE SECURED. VEHICLE IS AND HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE NEW. DEALER SAID THE ENTIRE PULLEY SYSTEM BROKE FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. THERE WAS A BULLETIN IN 2003. IT HAS TAKEN ME A WHILE TO FIND THIS SITE TO REPORT. *TR

PULLING INTO A PARKING SLOT, I HIT THE BRAKE BUT IT CAUGHT THE GAS PEDAL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. ONLY THE BALCONY WALL OF THE PARKING STOPPED THE CAR. THE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN THE SPRAIN OF MY NECK AND A $3000 DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO COLLISION SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $4,298.43. IN ADDITION, THE BUILDING SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,921.

I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. I HAVE HAD TWO ACCIDENTS IN IT. BOTH TIMES THE CAR FAILED TO BRAKE BUT ACCELERATED INSTEAD. NO ONE BELIEVED ME THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE STUCK INSTEAD OF BRAKING. MY INSURANCE PAID FOR REPAIR BOTH TIMES (EXCEPT FOR THE $500 DEDUCTIBLES). HOWEVER, AS A RESULT MY INSURANCE CARRIER OF 15 YEARS DROPPED ME AND I WAS FORCED TO TAKE OUT INSURANCE THAT COST ME MORE THAN THREE TIMES AS MUCH FOR COVERAGE. I BELIEVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE STUCK BUT THE 2004 MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CALL BACK. DO I HAVE ANY GROUNDS FOR PURSUING THIS? *TR
MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE DIED 10/ 22/07 W/59,615 MILES ON IT. 13464 MILES @ PURCHASE-I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A PROGRAM CAR W/EXTENDED WARRANTY=6 YRS/100K MILES. FOUND THE WINDOW STICKER WHEN I TRADED IT IN. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. COMING HOME FROM A TRIP, POWER STEERING LOST SOME FUNCTIONALITY; A SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON; MY HUSBAND PUT POWER STEERING FLUID IN; WE HEADED TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER. EN ROUTE WE LOST ALL POWER STEERING & ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, ENGINE BEGAN TO SMOKE; CAR CUT OFF. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK 5-6 WEEKS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. DOUBT OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS INCORRECT PARTS WERE ORDERED/RECEIVED. PICKED THE VEHICLE UP~12/1/07; 59620 MILES ON IT. WHILE AWAITING REPAIRS DEALERSHIPS/CORPORATE OFFICES COULD ONLY ADVISE THE CAR MAY BE UNDER BASIC WARRANTY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. SMELLED SMOKE AND WANTED ASSURANCE A NEW ENGINE WAS PUT IN AS PROMISED & THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS. THEY MADE $900+ WORTH OF ADDED REPAIRS-REAR MAIN SEAL OIL LEAK; AXLE BOOT LEAK. IT HAD 59949 MILES ON IT. AT THAT POINT I DIDN'T WANT IT BACK. I WANTED TOYOTA TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR SELLING A LEMON. MY MAIN CONCERN: IS THERE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD WITH 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY MODELS AS SEEN IN PREVIOUS YEARS (ENGINE OIL SLUDGE)? SECONDLY, DID SOMETHING ELSE CAUSE THIS INCIDENT? THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THIS CAMRY SHOULD HAVE RESPONDED TO MY DISSATISFACTION; THEY SHOULD HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED/OFFERED SOME INCENTIVES FOR SELLING ME A LEMON. THEIR ONLY CONCERN, MAKE ANOTHER SALE. REQUESTED A CALL FROM/AUDIENCE WITH THE OWNER. HASN'T HAPPENED. I NEEDED A CAR AND BELIEVED THIS WAS ABERRATION WITH RESPECT TO CAMRY MODELS' PERFORMANCE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE COLLAPSE. AS OF DECEMBER 4, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND AND I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2004 SOLARA. AT FIRST EVERYTHING WAS GOOD THEN THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NEVER TURN OFF. THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR LIKE 4 MONTHS NOW. THE BIG INCIDENT/PROBLEM IS I WAS DRIVING 10MPH AND THE CAR STARTED TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT. I ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE BY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT BUT IT WOULD NOT CORRECT. SO I SLOWLY PUSHED ON THE BRAKES AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. WHAT FINALLY STOPPED ME WAS THE WHEEL FELL OFF. YES THE WHEEL FELL OFF. AND DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE WHEEL FELL OFF I ENDED UP SIDESWIPING 2 CARS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. WHEN THE POLICE GOT THERE THEY SAID IT WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE AND THAT THE TIRE ROD HAD SNAPPED WAY BEFORE I SIDESWIPED THE FIRST CAR CAUSE HE FOUND A SNAPPED BOLT AND PARTS 3 FEET AWAY FROM THE FIRST VEHICLE. THEN HE TOLD ME THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO SOMEONE ELSE A FEW DAYS AGO AND THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE. I HAD 3 BABIES IN THE CAR RANGING IN AGE FROM 2 1/2 TO 6 WEEKS OLD. I AM VERY UNHAPPY CAUSE THE CAR IS TOTALED AND IT WAS NOT EVEN MY FAULT. THE ACCIDENT REPORT WAS MADE OUT AND IN IT IT SAYS IT WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE AND THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY SO I WAS NOT SPEEDING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. I JUST THINK ABOUT IT NOW AND THANK GOD IT HAPPENED IN A NEIGHBORHOOD AND NOT ON THE STREET FOR IF IT HAD I WOULD PROBABLY RAN INTO THE GAS STATION RIGHT OUTSIDE OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. I FEEL THIS CAR IS VERY UNSAFE AND THAT THE TIRE RODS AND SUSPENSION SHOULD BE CHECKED REGULARLY . THE SAD PART IS IT HAD JUST GONE IN FOR SERVICING ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. I JUST WISH I HAD KNOWN THIS CAR DOES THAT AND THAT IT HAD AS MANY PROBLEMS AS IT DID BEFORE I BOUGHT IT.
