The vehicle was unoccupied during the fire; the contact was alerted by the fire department. The fire originated from the engine, it was reported that the cause of the fire was faulty wiring. There were 2 vehicles next to the vehicle that was damaged in the event of the fire. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. A police report was filed. The vehicle was totaled. No injuries were reported. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 142,000.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2005 Toyota Camry. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 125,647; however, the contact found a repair bill from January 10th, 2018, that indicated that the mileage as 233,045. Additionally, a Carfax Report indicated that the mileage was 248,083 on March 15th, 2022.
When slowly finishing my entry into a parking spot and braking the car suddenly accelerated to a high speed and bolted over the curb with a planter zone into another parked car directly facing my parking lane hitting the front passenger side. My car was still accelerating and hit another car to the left of the first parked car, hitting it in the rear driver side door. My car kept going until I was finally able to get the brake to work and it stopped just before another parking lot curb with planter zone. As far as I can tell the brake and or accelerator malfunctioned dangerously and suddenly. It could also have been a malfunctioning TPS (throttle positioning sensor). I would like my car inspected to determine what caused this malfunction. While everyone involved said they felt fine. One person, in the first car hit, was sitting in the driver seat, luckily no one was in the front passenger seat. That driver said she was ok. The second car was unoccupied. This dangerous incident had no warnings or symptoms prior to the accident. My online research shows that there was a recall that included my make and year for sticky pedal, floormat, and deformed accelerator cable housing. These can cause unintended acceleration or unresponsive pedal. According to the Toyota website my VIN has no outstanding recalls though. I would like my car checked out because any recall repair, if done, may not have been done thoroughly enough to prevent the collision I experienced on September 28, 2025, some 15 years or so after the 2010 recall.
Just bought this car on 3/12/2025 Was assured nothing wrong. When taking off it goes about 8 ft then hesitates causing the car behind to almost hit me. Twice it's happened. Pulling out of busy intersections is dangerous. Also it will down shift while driving regularly. Causing cars to run up on you. It also almost died at.a stop sign. Could be tranmission. Not sure exactly.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact’s brother performed brake repair on the vehicle and added Prestone DOT 3 brake fluid to the brake reservoir. The contact stated that several days later, while driving at approximately 25 MPH, the brakes locked up and the vehicle failed to move. The vehicle was taken to the brother’s residence by her brother while driving and depressing the accelerator and brake pedal simultaneously. The contact’s brother flushed the brake lines however, the failure persisted. The contact’s brother became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24E101000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Steering) from the NHTSA.gov website. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was cross contamination of the braking system and the entire braking system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
While going about 15MPH the car accelerated on its own . Had a hard time finally stopping vehicle breaking and put the car in neutral.
Unattended acceleration. I was on a slight incline, trying to enter the highway. I was stopped with my foot on the break with all of a sudden acceleration, and I started to surge forward. I kept my foot on the break and kept the car from moving forward, but it did seemed to it, going into high gear to want to move forward. Then put it in neutral and in reverse to back up a couple feet so that I wasn’t hit by a moving car on the highway. And then drove the car home. And Toyota to report the problem.

The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. July 14, 2021 arriving back to New Jersey from Las Vegas. I pick up my vehicle Wednesday night at Hoboken NJ garage , heading home my 2005 Toyota Camry vehicle air bag (steering wheel) deployed. As I was driving (15mph) no lights was on the dashboard, no pot holes on the street and there was no accident involving my vehicle. I was hit in the face from the air bag pretty hard it almost made me crash into a electric pole and gas station. 911 was called, the Jersey City police department, fire department and Ambulance arrived. The area was block off looking for car parts or pot holes nothing was found so the police report can be completed. I treated inside the ambulance at the scene, my left hand was burned and head/ neck was hurting. I just decline going to the hospital at the moment. The police called a towing company as I called my car insurance to informing them the situation. As my vehicle was being towed away the police officer said its a malfunction problem it can be a recall I don't know about. The following day I was in touch with my claim agent from my insurance, letting them no where my vehicle was towed at. They informed me to get in touch with the Toyota to see if they going to take full responsibility of the air bag being deployed on July 14, 2021 . I called Toyota Corporation and gave them all the information they asked and then I was told a inspector would reach out to inspect my 2005 Toyota Camry vehicle but it has to be a auto body shop. The place the police got my vehicle towed to the night ofJuly 14, 2021 from Hoboken NJ was not a auto body shop. It was just inside a gate full of other cars. I paid full price for storage fees end up getting my 2005 Camry to a auto body shop in Jersey City NJ were the Toyota Corporation inspector came out July 27 2021 . I called Toyota Corporation multiple times they kept saying it takes up to 30days to make decision from the inspection notes. Yesterday August 25 2001 I received a email they not taking blame.

ON 03/29/20 I WAS BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR TOOK OFF LIKE A ROCKET SHIP AND I HIT A TRUCK. THIS IS MY 1ST ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED SO FAST BUT I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND BOTH FEET WERE ON THE FLOOR AND BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL AFTER I FELT THE ACCELERATION. TOYOTA IS DENYING MY CLAIM.. CAN YOU REVIEW?
MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY I TAKE EVERYDAY AS I WAS MILDLY TURNING WITH THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL SPUNG TO THE LEFT AND THE CAR WENT OUT OD CONTROL SPINNING AND ENDED ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER WHERE THAN MY CAR STARTED TO FLIP OVER NONE STOP AND THE AIRBAGS DIDNT NOT BURST OR COME OUT.
THE ENGINE ROARED AND IMMEDIATELY I WAS GOING TOO FAST. PUT ON THE BRAKES AND IT DID NOT REOCCUR BUT IT SCARED ME. I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND TURNING INTO THE RIGHT LANE FROM THE LEFT LANE. FORTUNATELY THE STREET WAS NOT TOO BUSY. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING.
BRAKE PEDAL IS "STUTTERING" AT QUICK STOPS. WHEN TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNS YELLOW AND I PRESS DOWN BRAKE FIRMLY, THE BRAKE WORKS, THEN RELEASES BY ITSELF. I HAVE TO QUICKLY PRESS IT AGAIN TO ACTUALLY STOP VEHICLE. THIS "STUTTER" CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD A FEW FEET. IT'S A BIT SCARY TO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER BRAKING APPROPRIATELY. THIS ISN'T AN INCIDENT, BUT APPARENTLY HAS LED TO AN INCIDENT FOR MANY. DRIVERS SIDE SHOULDER BELTS EASILY FOLD OVER ITSELF ON THE SIDE, SO THEN WON'T RETRACT THROUGH THE SLOT IN THE PILLAR. ***SAFETY ISSUE*** DUE TO DESIGN, HAPPENED A LOT. REPLACEMENT OF ASSEMBLY SEEMS TO NOT BE A RELIABLE FIX, PER MANY OWNERS, AND NOT JUST CAMRY, MANY YEARS. ***NO RECALL NEEDED: ***IF TOYOTA MADE INFO ON HOW TO DEAL WITH IT FINDABLE AND AVAILABLE, OWNERS COULD RESOLVE IT - OVER AND OVER. ***TOYOTA & DEALERS HAVEN'T MADE THE INFO AVAILABLE. STARTED RECEIVING CONSTANT RED ILLUMINATED AIR BAG ICON ON THE DASHBOARD WITH NO KNOWN CAUSE.
ON 4/13 AROUND 2PM, I ARRIVED AT FRIEND'S TOWNHOUSE (ADDRESS: 203 WILDFELL TRL. CARY NC27513). I DROVE MY CAR INTO A PARKING LOT IN FRONT OF THE TOWNHOUSE SLOWLY WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. BEFORE I SHIFTED THE GEAR TO THE 'PARKING', MY CAR SUDDENLY SHOOT UP AND HIT THE ELECTRICAL TRANSFORMER BOX IN THE FRONT OF THE TOWNHOUSE. THE CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD UNTIL IT HIT THE OUTSIDE WALL OF THE NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE, THEN MOVING BACKWARD AND STOPPED. THE ELECTRICAL TRANSFORMER BOX WAS DAMAGED, THAT CAUSED THE POWER OUTAGE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR AT LEAST 6 HOURS. THE FRONT BUMPER OF MY CAR WAS ALSO DAMAGED. I ALSO GOT THE CITATION AND GOT CHARGED WITH 'THE MISDEMEANOR OR INFRACTION' FROM THE POLICE, FOR THAT I WILL NEED TO HIRE A LAWYER TO DEFEND THE CASE. I WAS SO SHOCKED AND PANIC. I HAVE A VERY CLEAN DRIVING RECORD IN THE PAST 30 YEARS. I KNEW TOYOTA DID HAVE A 'SUDDEN ACCELERATION' PROBLEM, BUT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS NEVER RECALLED SO I THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. YESTERDAY, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THE '2005 TOYOTA CAMRY' DID HAVE SEVERAL CAR INCIDENTS CAUSED BY 'SUDDEN ACCELERATION' IN THE PAST. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE CAR DIDN'T INJURE OR KILL ANY PEOPLE. I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANYMORE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHY TOYOTA DIDN'T RECALL MY CAR AND THE TOYOTA COMPANY SHOULD REIMBURSE ME ALL THE COSTS OF THE DAMAGES.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 - 65 MPH. I AM A CAUTIOUS DRIVER AND AM ALWAYS AWARE OF THE CONDITIONS AROUND ME. SUDDENLY, MY CAR JUST TOOK OFF LIKE A SHOT. IT WAS GOING AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH SPEED ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER IT. THERE ARE DARK SKID MARKS ON THE ROAD FROM MY BRAKING. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT, BUT THE NEXT THING I KNEW I HAD FLIPPED INTO THE MEDIAN. I FLIPPED TWO TIMES IN THE AIR BEFORE CRASHING, HOOD FIRST, ON THE MEDIAN. I DID NOTHING TO CAUSE THIS. I WAS MERELY DRIVING, IN THE SLOW LANE, AT A SAFE SPEED. IT IS A MIRACLE I AM ALIVE, AND EVEN MORE-SO THAT I WASN'T INJURED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AT THE END OF THE ACCIDENT, MY SEAT BELT WAS UNLATCHED. I AM GOING TO RECEIVE A CITATION FOR THIS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON 2005 CAMRY'S SINCE THIS HAPPENED, AND HAVE SEEN THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED FROM THIS FAULT AND I NEARLY WAS. I WANT TO KNOW WHY TOYOTA DIDN'T WARN US OF THIS. 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE REVERSING THE ENGINE REVVED TO HIGH RPM AND LUNGED BACKWARDS APPROXIMATELY 7 FEET, JUMPED A 6 INCH CONCRETE STEP AND PLOWED INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. *JS
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT MINIMAL RATE OF SPEED IN A RESIDENTIAL PARKING LOT. I EXPERIENCED RANDOM ACCELERATION OF MY VEHICLE.DESPITE APPLYING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING. I TURNED MY VEHICLE INTO A METAL POLE TO KEEP IT FROM TEMPORARILY MOVING FORWARD. DUE TO THE ACCELERATION & FRICTION, THE ASPHALT UNDER THE CAR WAS BURNED, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE EXPLODED AS DID THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW. THE ENTIRE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION.
I, ROBERT, WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WHEN MY WIFE CAME OUT OF THE STORE AND GOT INTO IT. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND STARTED THE CAR. IT TOOK OFF AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE CAR LUNGED AHEAD AND STEADILY PICKED UP SPEED. THE CAR HIT A LADY WALKING WITH HER GROCERIES, THEN HIT A PARKED VEHICLE AND PUSHED IT INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. THE ONLY THING THAT MADE IT STOP WAS THAT IT HIT A LARGE SUV. MY WIFE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO FASTEN HER SEAT BELT, THUS SUSTAINING INJURIES. IT ALL HAPPENED IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT FILED. I WAS NOT CHARGED WITH THE ACCIDENT. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON MAY 24, 2017 AT A PUBLIC AUCTION IN WASHINGTON, DC. THAT MEANS THAT THESE VEHICLES ARE STILL BEING SOLD AS IF THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THEM. THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 240,000 MILES WHEN I PURCHASED IT. WHEN WE CHECKED THE INTERNET, WE FOUND THAT THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. BEWARE!!!

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN THE REVERSE POSITION, THE CONTACT APPLIED MINIMAL PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT IT ACCELERATED RAPIDLY ON ITS OWN INTO A CONCRETE POLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. TAKATA RECALL: AFTER BACKING OUT OF A PARKED POSITION, I BUMPED THE REAR OF THE CAR INTO A STATIONARY POLE. AFTER THE COLLISION OCCURRED, NO AIRBAGS OPENED AND THE "AIR BAG" LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON. ADDITIONALLY THE "PASSENGER AIRBAG" LIGHT TURNED FROM "ON" TO "OFF". NO DAMAGE WAS CAUSED EXCEPT TO THE BACK BUMPER OF THE CAR.
FRONT SEAT BELTS ARE JAMMING AND GETTING FOLDED AND THUS CREATING A DRIVING HAZARD. THEY BECOME STUCK AND WON'T RETRACT SOMETIMES LEAVING TOO MUCH SLACK. THEY TWIST INSIDE THE SIDE PANEL OF THE VEHICLE AND YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE MOLDING TO RETRACT THE SEATBELT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH BOTH FRONT SEATS BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER. PURCHASED NEW SET OF PIRELLI FOUR SEASON PASSENGER TIRES AT LARGE-CHAIN MEMBERSHIP STORE FOR 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. LESS THAN 1 YEAR LATER ONE OF FOUR BEGAN LOOSING AIR AND TOOK IT IN FOR INSPECTION. TIRE SHOP FOUND SIDEWALLS WERE FAILING WITH NOTICEABLE BULGING IN SEVERAL PLACES AND REPLACED WITH BRAND NEW TIRE (MINUS SMALL PRORATED WARRANTY + INSTALLATION FEE). DROVE AWAY HAPPY AND ASSUMING WAS JUST A FLUKE BUT WITHIN 20 MILES ON WAY OUT OF TOWN DRIVING NORMAL 65 MPH ON MAJOR FREEWAY THE BRAND NEW TIRE BLEW OUT WITH COMPLETE INNER SIDEWALL FAILURE. WAS VERY SCARY AND AT NIGHT BUT MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND REPLACE WITH THE SPARE. NEXT DAY THE TIRE SHOP REPLACED WITH ANOTHER NEW TIRE WHICH UNFORTUNATELY WAS OF THE EXACT SAME LOT AND DATE # AS THAT WAS ALL THEY HAD IN STOCK. TOOK TALKING TO THE MANAGER TO GET THEM TO NOT CHARGE ME A SECOND INSTALLATION FEE AS THEY TRIED TO DO GIVEN IT WAS LESS THAN 16 HOURS SINCE I BOUGHT THE FAILED TIRE. THE SECOND GUY AND THE SHOP TOLD ME SIDE BAR AND OFF THE RECORD THAT THESE WERE REALLY BAD TIRES BUT THE FIRST GUY THE PRIOR DAY SAID THEY WERE GOOD. HOPING FOR THE BEST BUT REALLY MAKES ME UNEASY HEADING OUT FOR A LONG TRIP ON THESE PIRELLI TIRES AFTER TWO SEPARATE SIDEWALL ISSUES LIKE THIS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER HAD THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE DETACH FROM THE SEAT BELT WITH THE BUCKLE REMAINING ON THE BELT. UPON ARRIVING AT MY RESIDENCE I INSPECTED THE SEAT BELTS, I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT PASSENGER BELT BUCKLE WAS ALSO DETACHED FROM THE STRAP. IT SEAMS THE THREADS WHERE THE BUCKLE IS SEWN INTO THE STRAP HAVE DISINTEGRATED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 203,000.
I INITIALLY HAD AN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, BUT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR AND DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT HAD HAPPENED. I WAS UNAWARE THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE. LATER I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THEN SWITCHED TO DRIVE IN ATTEMPT TO GO FORWARD. THE CAR ACCELERATED W/O MY TOUCHING THE GAS. I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR AND IT PLOWED INTO SEVERAL OTHER CARS. I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAD HAPPENED. THE POLICE CAME AND ASSUMED IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE AFTER HAVING THIS HAPPEN, I WAS CONFUSED. THEY TOOK THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP THAT DID THE REPAIRS. NO ONE MENTIONED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM W/TOYOTAS. BY THE TIME I HEARD ABOUT SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION (SUA), I CONTACTED TOYOTA. AS THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAD ALREADY ARRANGED TO HAVE THE CAR FIXED BEFORE I CALLED, THE INVESTIGATOR SAID THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT THE CAR AS IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THEN I HAD A 3RD INCIDENT WHERE I'D COME TO A STOP, BUT THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. INITIAL DATE ESTIMATE WAS A GUESSTIMATE FOR MID-OCTOBER ACCELERATION. 11.21.16 WAS THE ACCIDENT, WHICH RESULTED IN OVER $7,000 DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND MORE WAS PAID TOWARDS THE CARS I HIT. THE MOST RECENT ACCELERATION WAS JANUARY 16, 2017. TO DATE TOYOTA HAS ON REATTACHED THE CARPETS, SO I AM CONCERNED THIS CAR IS STILL A RISK TO MY LIFE & THAT OF OTHERS.

ON MONDAY JULY 18TH 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30 P.M. I PULLED MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY INTO THE PARKING LOT HANDICAP SPOT AT BAGGER DAVE'S LOCATED 50570 GRATIOT, CHESTERFIELD MICHIGAN 48051. AS I WAS PREPARING TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD VERY HARD AND VERY FAST I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES THREE SEPARATE TIMES AND THE CAR WAS STILL MOVING FORWARD AT THE SAME RATE ON THE FOURTH TRY I USE BOTH FEET TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES VERY HARD JAMMING THE BRAKE PEDAL INTO THE FLOOR RENDERING MY BODY INTO A 180 DEGREE ANGLE POSITION STRETCHED OUT COMPLETELY WITH AN ARCHED BACK. I AM ONLY 5 FT 1 IN TALL. I WAITED THEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AT THAT TIME AND JUST SAT IN THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT HAS TWISTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE, AFTER LOTS OF FRUSTRATION AND WORK, TO GET IT TO RETRACT.. TODAY IT TWISTED AGAIN AND I CAN'T FIX IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT IS GOING TO COST ME $540. NOT ONLY THAT BUT WE HAVE TO DELAY RETURNING TO OUR HOME FROM VACATION FOR TWO DAYS BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE ORDERED.
