NEW VEHICLE DRIVEN 108 MILES. THE ONLY PROBLENS NOTICES WAS THE RADIO WOULD TURN ITSELF ON WHEN HITTING A SLIGHT BUMP IN THE ROAD. CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT DID NOT GO OFF WHEN BRAKES WERE ENGAGED, BUT WOULD DISCONNECT CRUISE CONTROL. WAS PARKING IN A MALL PARKING LOT PARRALL TO ACCESS ROAD. SPEED NO MORE THAN 1 OR 2 MPH. FRONT WHEEL DROPPED INTO HOLE. THE ACCELORATOR CAUSED THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. APPLIED BRAKES BUT WAS UNABLE TO KEEP CAR FROM MOVING FORWARD AT A SLOW SPEED OF 5 MPH. TURNED RIGHT, TO AVOID STRIKING HANDICAP PARKING SIGN, INTO THE PATH OF A PICKUP TRUCK TRAVELING ON MALL ACCESS ROAD. STRUCK TRUCK AND CONTINUED FORWARD TOWARD PEDESTRIANS ON SIDEWALK. MANAGED TO AVOID THEM AND THE ENGINED STOPPED AT THAT POINT. I APPLIED THE BRAKE SO HARD I INJURED MY RIGHT HAMSTRING MUSCLE AND WAS UNABLE TO WALK. TOYOTA SEIZED VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION AND HAS NOT RELEASED OR INSPECTED IT AS OF THIS DATE.
CONTACT WITH THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN FRUITLESS AS FAR AS RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF COMPLAINTS, BUT TRY THE COMPANY LINE THAT IT WAS ENGINEERED TO PERFORM THIS WAY. BASICALLY, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GEAR DOWN SATISFACTORILY, UNTIL IT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. A SLOW TURN AND THEN ACCELERATION WILL 'ALWAYS' RESULT IN 'LAGGING' OF GEAR CHANGES, THEN IT WILL FINALLY GEAR DOWN AND LURCH INTO THE LOWER GEAR. IT'S AGGRAVATING AND CAN BE DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS IN TIGHT CROWDED FREEWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS WHERE IT'S NOT UNUSUAL TO HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN SPEED UP WITHOUT GETTING REAR-ENDED.
BRAKES ARE SLOW AND DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE; PRODUCE LONG STOPS OR NONE. TOYOTA SAYS BRAKES ARE FUNCTIONING AS THEY'RE DESIGNED TO (WHICH MEANS BRAKES ARE DESIGNED TO BE UNSATISFACTORY) AND DOES NOTHING; ARBITRATION HEARING FOUND IN FAVOR OF TOYOTA, DESPITE CONSUMER REPORTS (2005) FINDING THAT BRAKES WERE SPONGY AND STOPS LONG. I'M NOT SURE WHY THIS IS THE CASE BUT SUSPECT DRUM TYPE BRAKE NOT ADEQUATE FOR CAR OF THIS WEIGHT; HOWEVER, THE WHOLE SYSTEM MAY BE AT FAULT. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BRAKES WAS DUE TO A DEVICE CALLED A DOUBLE OR DUAL LINK PEDAL ASSEMBLY THAT WILL SOON BE REQUIRED IN ALL NEW VEHICLES. *JB
WHILE DRIVING FIRST 100 MILES THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING ERATICALLY, UPSHIFT AND DOWNSHIFTS NOT CHANGING SMOOTHLY. *AK
I HAVE DRIVEN A TOYOTA CAMRY FOR 14 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT NOR A TRAFFIC CITATION. IN OCTOBER 2004 WE BOUGHT A NEW TOYOTA CAMRY. ON APRIL 25, 2005 I DROVE TO A MEETING AT A PRIVATE HOME ON A 27 ACRE FARM. I HAD TWO PASSENGERS IN THE CAR. WHEN BACKING UP VERY SLOWLY TO TURN THE CAR AROUND I HAD A SUDDEN UNEXPECTED SPEED SURGE. BRAKES DID NOT WORK. I GLANCED OFF ONE CAR DAMAGING THE BACK BUMPER AND PUTTING A CREASE IN THE SIDE, THEN HIT A PICKUP TRUCK SQUARE ON ITS BUMPER KNOCKING OFF THE LICENCE PLATE. SINCE THERE WERE PEOPLE, CARS AND BUILDINGS BEHIND ME, I MANAGED TO GET IT OUT OF REVERSE BUT THEN IT SURGED FORWARD (NO BRAKES) WENT ABOUT 150 FT AND I HAD TO TURN OFF THE KEY IN AN ATTEMPT TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN. THIS WAS ON A LONG GRAVEL DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. IT COASTED ABOUT 90 FT, WENT THROUGH A WIRE FENCE, HIT A FENCE POST, A ROOF SUPPORT, AND HIT A 800 LB BALER WHICH MOVED 5 FT INTO A LARGE FARM SPRAYER. THREE PEOPLE WITNESSED WHAT HAPPENED AND HEARD THE CAR WHEN IT SURGED BACKWARD. THE REAR SEAT BELT SNAPPED OPEN ON IMPACT. ONE OF THE PASSENGERS WAS INJURED, ONE HAD BRUISES.
SINCE THE DAY I OWNED THIS CAR I HAVE HEARD A THUMP IN REAR SUSPENSION. AFTER MANY TRIPS AND AWHILE WITH LOANER THEY COULD NOT REPAIR. I REQUESTED THAT AREA SERVICE REP LOOK AT IT AT WHICH TIME HE STATED THAT THEY KNEW OF A PROBLEM AND A SERVICE BULLETIN WOULD BE IN OCT. IT IS NOW JAN AND STILL NO SATISFACTION. *JB
THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION 11 TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AFTER EACH INCIDENT, BUT THE CAUSE WAS STILL UNDETERMINED.*AK *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO PELLETS OF STONE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. THE FRONT PASSENGER FENDER SUSTAINED DAMAGES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND REPAIRED FOR THE BODY DAMAGE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO DRIVER ERROR ASSOCIATED TO AN ACCIDENTAL ENGAGEMENT OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE ALARM SYSTEM ACTIVATED WITHOUT ASSISTANCE SPONTANEOUSLY CAUSING THE POWER DOORS NOT TO LOCK. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES, AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
I BOUGHT MY NEW 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6 FROM GEIS TOYOTA, YORKTOWN HEIGHT, NY. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE RPM METER ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY KEEPS GOING UP WHILE RUNNING THE CAR, ALTHOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. I HAVE COMPLAINED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEED BREAK IN PERIOD, AND THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY. BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I DO VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REGULARLY AS PER FACTORY RECOMMENDATION. LAST YEAR I TOOK THE CAR TO FORDHAM TOYOTA SERVICE, MANHATTAN, NY FOR SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEED A COMPLETE TUNE-UP WHICH THEY DID FOR A CHARGE. BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINED AND I GOT USED TO PRESS BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
BOUGHT CAMRY 05 NEW AND HAD INTERMITTENT VIBRATION IN THE FRONT . HAVE HAD ALL MOST ALL FRONT END REPLACED, MOTOR AND TRAN MOUNTS, CV DRIVE LINES .BEARING,ETC . I HAD THE CAR DOWN AT THE TOYOTA DEALER MANY TIME OVER THE YEARS THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY THING BAD ... I MY SELF CHECKED OUT FOR LOSE PARTS FOUND NOTHING TILL I MOVED LEFT SIDE CV DRIVE LINE AND I COULD MOVE THE DRIVE LINE UP AND DOWN AND AROUND THAT GOES INTO THE TRANSFER-CASE. I MADE A APPOINTMENT AGAIN TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND HAD THE SHOP FOREMAN LOOK A THIS MOVEMENT..HE SAID THIS WAS NORMAL AND MOVES LESS THEN MOST 05 CAMRYS. THIS VIBRATION HAPPEN AT 40 AND UP.
THE VEHICLE STALLED AND DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST PURCHASED. *AK THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED. *SC *JB THERE WAS A DELAY IN ACCELERATION OR SLOW RESPONSE TIME FROM A LOW SPEED TO A FASTER SPEED WHILE GOING UP A HILL. *JB
CAR SURGES. IT HAS DONE THIS TWICE. THE DEALER CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, AND TOYOTA STANDS BEHIND THE DEALER. ACCIDENTS WERE AVOIDED BOTH TIMES. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH UP HILL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE; HOWEVER, IT SEEMED TO DECREASE IN POWER AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR. THE CONTACT TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH MINIMAL PRESSURE AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 180,000.
WHILE ACCELERATING VEHICLE MAKES A LOUD TICKING NOISE AUDIBLE FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND OUTSIDE. ONLY HEARD WHILE THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. AT THIS TIME NO NOTICABLE MALFUNCTION OF THE ENGINE HAS BEEN DETECTED. DEALER SAYS "THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE, BUT IT IS LOUDER THAN SIMILAR VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR EQUIPMENT. *AK
2005 CAMRY AT LOW THROTTLE POSITIONS 35-40 MPH RPMS JUMP 200 AND THEN RETURNS. THIS HAPPENS CONSISTANTLY. I HAVE WRITTEN TOYOTA THREE LETTERS AND THEY HAVE BLOWN ME OFF EACH TIME. I STILL HAVE COPIES OF THE LETTERS. NOW THAT TOYOTA IS FESSING UP, PERHAPS THEY WILL FIX THIS CONDITION AS IT UNNERVING IF NOT DANGEROUS. I AM PUTTING IN A DATE AS YOUR FORM WILL NOT LET ME CONTINUE ALTHOUGH THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WHILE HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A SIDEWALK, PUSHED OVER A SIGN AND HIT A FENCE, HOWEVER NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION; HOWEVER NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED. UPDATED 03/22/06.*JB
MY 5 MONTH OLD TOYOTA CAMRY SE V6 2005 WITH 5,200 MILES ON ODOMETER SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHEN APPROACHING SLOWLY INTO DRIVEWAY AS USUAL FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS OF MY RESIDENCE. THE CAMRY WAS ONLY STOPPED ON ITSELF AFTER IT HIT THE WALL OF ROCKY LEDGE STANDING AT DRIVEWAY'S END. I FELT VERY LUCKY AND GOD BLESSED BECAUSE IF THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON THE ROAD ITS CONSEQUENCES IS VERY HORRIBLE BEYOND ANY IMAGINATION OF FATALITIES.AFTER THIS ACCIDENT,I NOTIFIED THE TOYOTA CORPORATION AND THEY ANSWERED ME THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING DEFECTIVE WITH THIS CAMRY AFTER AN INVESTIGATION. I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED AT TOYOTA CORP ACTION. REPAIR OF DAMAGE COST MORE THAN 7,000 DOLLARS AND I MUST PAY SURCHARGE SINCE 2005 UNTIL NOW ON MY INSURANCE POLICY. AT THAT TIME,I WAS COMPLETELY GIVEN UP BECAUSE TOYOTA IS A VERY POWERFUL CORPORATION AND MY VOICE UNHEARD AND UNNOTICED BY ANYONE. *TR
CONSUMER REQUEST THAT AN AIR BAG ON/OFF SWITCH BE INSTALLED IN HER 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. *NM THE CONSUMER HAD TO SIT CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO REACH THE PEDAL COMFORTABLY. THIS WAS THE REASON FOR THE REQUEST. *SC
INTERMITTENTLY, AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL SINK COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AFTER A FEW SECONDS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW. ONCE THE CAR REACHED ABOUT 5000 MILES, IT WOULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THEN LUNGE FORWARD SEVERAL FEET, STOP, MAKE A MOANING SOUND, THEN LUNGE FORWARD AGAIN; ALL WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY FAULT LIGHTS COME ON MY DASHBOARD. IT THEN DROVE FINE FOR ABOUT 10 MILES WHEN THE SAME PATTERN REPEATED ITSELF AGAIN, EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, OR REPEAT THE PROBLEM. THEY WOULD LIKE ME TO RETURN WHEN THE PROBLEM REPEATS ITSELF. OF COURSE, I?M HESITANT TO DO THIS SINCE THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE MAY GET SERIOUSLY INJURED. PLEASE HELP! *JB
TOYOTA CAMRY XLE 2005, WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. *BF AS THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR FROM A STOP THAT IS WHEN THE FEELING OF STALLING WOULD OCCUR. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A LINKAGE CABLE, BUT A SENSOR AT THE GAS PEDAL; UPON DEPRESSING THE PEDAL THE COMPUTER DOES ALL THE REST AND HESITATION IS NORMAL. *JB

VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND THEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE IS OKAY. MANUFACTURER STATES THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES.*AK.....VEHICLE HAS A HESITATION PROBLEM. ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS CONSUMER WAS PLACED IN DANGER OF CROSSING A BYSY HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE...AT ALL. THE ENGINE HAS A ONE MINUTE DELAY BETWEEN THE TINE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PRESSED TO THE TIME THE RPMS BEGIN TO GO UP. FURTHERMORE, WHEN CROSSING AN UNCONTROLLED INTERSECTION ON A HIGHWAY WITH 55+ MPH TRAFFIC THE HESITATION CAN LAND CONSUMER'S VEHICLE IN THE ONCOMING LANE TOO LATE. THE LUNGE THAT AKES PLACE WHEN VEHICLE FINALLY DOES ACCELERATE, IS A VERY JERKY AND UNSAFE RIDE. *AK
PURCHASED A 2005 CAMRY SE IN FEB. 2005. HAD 500 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT NEEDED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS FROM THE COMPANY. I NOW HAVE A NEW CAR THAT HAS DIMINISHED VALUE DUE TO THE OVERHAUL. I WAS ALSO WITHOUT THE CAR FOR 20 PLUS DAYS. I FEEL THEY KNEW THE MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE WHEN THEY SOLD IT TO ME BUT I GUESS THEY SOME 70 YEAR OLD WOULD NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. I BELIEVE I SHOULD AT THE LEAST HAVE BEEN GIVEN A NEW ENGINE OR ANOTHER NEW CAR WITHOUT THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE. I GUESS THAT WOULD BE TOO MUCH TO EXPECT FROM THE "RELIABLE AUTOMAKER." *NM
2005 TOYOTA SE V6 HAS NOTICEABLE HESITATION PROBLEMS AT LOW SPEEDS. COULD BE DANGEROUS AT FASTER SPEEDS. TOYOTA CURRENTLY HAS NO FIX, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. *JB
TOYOTA CAMRY LE MODEL HAS THREE PROBLEMS: IDLE CONTROL IS ABOVE 2400, ROD THAT HOLD PISTON IS NOT SECURE TO HOLD IT TIGHT AND CAUSING THE PISTON TO JIGGLE AROUND, TOYOTA SAID THAT IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND SHOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE. AND WEATHER SEAL IS INADAQUATE, YOU CAN HEAR ALL TRAFFICE NOISE WITH RADIO ON FULL VOLUME. DEALER IS VERY UNFRIENDLY AND THEY GAVE ME RUN AROUND, THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND STILL HAS SAME PROBLEMS I HAD BEFORE THEY REPLACE THE ENGINE AND HAS NOT FIX THE OTHER PROBLEMS AND REFUSES TO GIVE ANYONE ELSE'S NAME TO TALK TO. 800# TELLS ME TO CALL DEALER AND DEALER TELLS ME TO CALL 800# AND STILL UNABLE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I WILL NEVER BUY TOYOTA OR RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. BECOUSE OF THE POOR SERVICE WHEN YOU HAVE PROBLEM THEY DO NOT WANT TO TALK TO YOU AND THEY GIVE YOU RUN AROUND.*AK
WHILE THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.*AK
DT: ABOUT 300 MILES WHILE DRIVING STEERING WHEEL CAME LOOSE, AND CAUSED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. AT 537 MILES, WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN AND THEN A LEFT TURN, AS DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT RESPOND. STEERING WHEEL HAD NO CONTROL. THE WEATHER WAS DRY, A FLAT ROAD. THE SPEED WAS ABOUT 65 PMH. VEHICLE CRAHED INTO A WALL. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PASSENGER SUSTAINED A BROKEN BACK, AND ARM. DRIVER SUSTAINED A BROKEN ANKLE AND BRUISES. *AK
WHILE BRAKING BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6 5SP AUTO IN NOV 2004. SHORTLY AFTER TAKING DELIVERY, WE STARTED TO NOTICE HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND AFTER SLOWING DOWN IN TRAFFIC. WE ALSO FELT A DELAY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GO INTO PASSING GEAR. THIS DELAY WOULD LAST UP TO A COUPLE OF SECONDS. AFTER THE DELAY WAS FELT, THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE RAPIDLY. THIS WOULD CAUSE A JOLT TO THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVER. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT GETTING THE POWER DEMAND FROM THE ACCELERATOR EQUIPMENT QUICKLY ENOUGH. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. THE LAST STATEMENT FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS " I DROVE THE CAR AND CLEARLY UNDERSTAND YOUR COMPLAINT CONCERNING THE HESITATION. THAT IS THE NATURE OF THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY. WE CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE" THE SERVICE MANAGER DENIED THEY HAD ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM ANYONE CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. THAT'S WHEN I STARTED SEARCHING THE WEB. AFTER COLLECTING COMPLAINTS FROM SEVERAL WEB SITES SUCH AS THIS, I CONFRONTED THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE STATED HE WAS UNAWARE OF THE COMPLAINTS AND GAVE ME THE 1-800-# FOR TOYOTA. PURCHASED NEW 2005 CAMRY SE. IMMEDIATELY REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH SEVERE PULLING TO THE LEFT (ACROSS LANES IF NOT HOLDING STEERING WHEEL FIRMLY.) ALSO, COMPLAINED OF INTERMITTENT HARD SHIFTS BETWEEN 20 AND 40 MPH. AS IF SOMEONE HAD HIT THE CAR FROM REAR. TOOK TO NUMEROUS REPAIR FACILITIES AND THEY ALL SAID THE ALIGNMENT WAS FINE. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED ABOUT TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETINS. CAR NOW HAS 40,000 MILES. DEALER SAYS OUT OF WARRANTY AND TSBS ARE ONLY GOOD FOR ONE YEAR. APPLICABLE TSBS ARE: ST005R-01, TC003-05, AND ST002R-04. OTHERWISE LOVE CAR. WHEN THE OVERDRIVE IS ACTIVATED, THE RPM'S SPIKE BETWEEN THREE AND SIX THOUSAND RPM'S. THIS HAPPENS DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. IT STARTED AROUND THE BEGINNING OF APRIL, FIVE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA INDICATED THE ISSUES WERE "AN OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE", BEING DISMISSIVE IN THEIR RESPONSE DEMONSTRATING A CORPORATE CULTURE OF ARROGANCE. HAVE SPOKEN WITH TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGERS IN HENDERSON, NV, SANTA MONICA AND THOUSAND OAKS, CA RE: THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY ALL HAVE SIMILAR RESPONSES... ROLLING THEIR EYES TOWARD THE SKY AND LAMENTING, "OHHH, THAT V6 CAMRY TRANSMISSION" AS IF SOME SORT OF FACTORY 'INSIDE JOKE'. THESE ARE CLEARLY KNOWN ISSUES THE FACTORY HAS CHOSEN TO DO NOTHING ABOUT, THUS THE SERVICE MANAGER'S HANDS ARE TIED. THE VEHICLE INCREASES IN RPM'S WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE RPM'S WILL INCREASE FROM 750 TO 900 RPM'S. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. ALSO CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO THE CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS THE CURRENT DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. *AK THERE WAS POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT TO OCCUR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. WHENEVER I APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AT LOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 1-30 MPH AS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, A STOP SIGN OR AN IMMEDIATE BRAKE THE TRANSMISSION SWITCHES GEARS, AND THE RPMS INCREASED. THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR JOLTED FORWARD, AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AGAIN. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT. OTHERS HAVE. I HAD THE DEALER'S REPAIR TECHNICIANS DRIVE THE CAR ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS NOT HOW ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE SUPPOSED TO WORK. TOYOTA NEEDED TO RESEARCH THIS DEFECT THOROUGHLY AND ANNOUNCE A RECALL BEFORE OTHERS GET HURT OR KILLED.*AK

AFTER THE SERVICE MANAGER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND THEN ANOTHER VEHICLE OF SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL, HE DETERMINED THERE WAS A HOLE. ALSO, AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEALER STATED TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK FOR THE AIR BAG LIGHT. HOWEVER HE WOULD NOT REPAIR THE HOLE.*AK

WE BOUGHT OUR 2005 CAMRY LE V6 IN THE FALL OF 2004. FROM DAY ONE, WE NOTICED THE HESITATION. WHEN LEAVING A STOP SIGN, FOR EXAMPLE, IT WOULD LAG FOR A SPLIT SECOND, THEN SUDDENLY JERK INTO GEAR. THE FIRST WEEK WE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE FIRST 1000 MILES. WHEN IT CONTINUED WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE COMPUTER. WE MENTIONED IT AT EVERY WARRANTY CHECK AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER SAW THE PROBLEM. WE WISH WE KNEW THAT WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES SO WE WOULD HAVE PURSUED IT EARLIER.
