I DRIVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY...IN ABOUT APPROX. OCTOBER 2009 I EXPERIENCED WHILE ON THE I-20 FREEWAY CAR TROUBLE. MY GAS PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR REVED UP AND DIED. IT WOULD NOT START AND WHEN IT DID THE MOTOR WENT RACING. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I HAVE IN WRITING FROM THE YOKEM TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS MY THROTTLE STICKING. I PAID THEM APPROX. $900.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. I WROTE TO THE TOYOTA CORP. ABOUT GETTING REIMBURSED IN JANUARY AND STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. I DIDNT SEE MY YEAR MODEL ON THE RECALL LIST BUT I DID SEND THEM A COPY OF MY RECEIPT WITH THE DEALERSHIP STATING THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE. HOW CAN I GET REIMBURSED. WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, THERE WAS SOME NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, AND SUDDENLY I LOST POWER STEERING AND LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE FRONT PANEL. I MANAGED HARD TO PULL OFF THE VEHICLE FROM THE HIGHWAY, IT WAS SO HARD MAKE TURNS TO THE RAMP. THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE STARTED TO FLUCTUATE. THERE WAS LITTLE SMOKING COME OUT, I HAD TO STOP THERE. IT WAS TURNED OUT THERE WAS A BELT FELL OUT AND MY ALTERNATOR EVENTUALLY DIED. MY CAR IS 4-CYLINDER, NOT 6. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT I FEEL ACCELERATES EVEN AFTER THE BRAKES HAS BEEN APPLIED. I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK IT HOWEVER WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. ANYHOW AFTER ALL THIS I DON'T FEEL DRIVING A TOYOTA IS SAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I AM HOPEFUL THAT THE AUTHORITIES SHOULD ALSO LOOK AT 2005 AND 2006 CAMRY'S. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT INTENTION. AFTER REPEATED BRAKE APPLICATION THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. CONSEQUENTLY HE CRASHED THROUGH A FENCE AND THEN INTO A BUILDING. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY. HOWEVER HE AND HIS WIFE WERE INJURED (HIS WIFE HAD A FRACTURED VERTEBRAE AND OTHER ISSUES) AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND REPRESENTATIVE WAS SENT TO INSPECT THE BRAKES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS STILL DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A NEARBY TRAFFIC SIGN, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT NO FAILURE COULD BE FOUND.THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH DURING NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS A VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE CONTACT WHICH PUSHED THE VEHICLE INTO A GUARD RAIL CAUSING IT TO ROLL OVER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND THE PASSENGER RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE NECK. REPORT NUMBER 0912100264 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER; HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT INVESTIGATE WHY THE AIR BAGS DIN'T DEPLOYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN AND THE POLICE REPORT INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 70,000.
ON OCTOBER 6, 2009, I DROVE MY 2005 CAMRY INTO THE PARKING LOT MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND COASTING INTO MY USUAL PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE. AS I APPROACHED THE CURB, MY CAMRY SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPING THE APPROXIMATELY SIX-INCH CURB, AND HITTING A TREE APPROXIMATELY SIX FEET FROM THE CURB WHILE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE, AFTER WHICH I TURNED OFF THE CAR WITH MY KEY. I CALLED MY INSURANCE AGENT, THEN AAA TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO OUR BODY SHOP, IN-AND-OUT AUTO BODY IN GAITHERSBURG, MD. I TOLD THE INSURANCE COMPANY I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED, THAT MY CAMRY HAD SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TOWARD THE TREE, AND ASKED THE BODY SHOP TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR. AFTER THEY REPAIRED MY CAMRY (BILL WAS $5321), THE BODY SHOP CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR WERE WORKING AS EXPECTED. I DROVE THE CAMRY HOME BUT LATER MY HUSBAND TOLD ME OF REPORTS HE FOUND ON THE INTERNET OF 'SUDDEN ACCELERATION' BY TOYOTAS, PARTICULARLY 2005 CAMRYS, AND I NO LONGER TRUST THIS CAR AND WILL NOT DRIVE IT. *TR
FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS. *TR
MY HUSBAND HAD A WRECK IN WHICH THE AIRBAGS IN MY CAR DIDN'T DEPLOY. HE T-BONED A STEEL POLE AND THEN WENT INTO A RAVINE ABOUT 20 FEET DOWN HILL AND THEN T-BONED A TREE. THE CAR WAS GOING ABOVE 30 MILE AN HOUR AND NO BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT ANY TIME. HE KNOCKED THE POLE WITH THE CONCRETE STILL ATTACHED AND HAD BEEN BURIED ABOUT 2FT. IN THE GROUND DOWN INTO THE RAVINE AND TORE THE BRANCHES FROM THE TREE. THE FRONT OF THE CAR TOOK SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND IT WAS REPORTED TO ME THAT THE FRAME WAS BENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. HE HIT HIS HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND RECEIVED A BROKEN NOSE AND A LARGE KNOT ON HIS FOREHEAD DUE TO NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
OWN A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6. TRANSMISSION HESITATION, HEATED SEATS WORK OCCASIONALLY, MOST POWER WINDOWS DON'T OPERATE PROPERLY, AND LOTS OF SQUEAKS AND RATTLES. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 25,000 MILES, VERY WELL MAINTAINED. DEALER SAYS THAT ALL PROBLEMS ARE NORMAL. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA BECAUSE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST. THIS WAS THE FIRST IMPORT CAR FOR ME, AND WILL BE THE LAST. I WILL BE RETURNING TO FORD. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS ON MY TAURUS WITH 200,000 MILES. *TR
ON 9/20/2009 AT 5 PM I WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 60 MILES PER HOUR NORTH ON US TEXAS HIGHWAY 121 AND MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I WAS ENGAGED IN NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE CAR IS WELL CARED FOR AND HAS 46,902 MILES. APPROXIMATELY 3 SECONDS PRIOR TO POWER FAILURE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. OTHERWISE, I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. THE POWER LOSS OCCURRED JUST NORTH OF THE ALMA ROAD INTERSECTION AND RESULTED IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE ROAD WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, THE ROAD DID NOT HAVE A BREAKDOWN LANE OR SHOULDER, AND THE ROAD HAD A HIGH SPEED LIMIT OF 60 MILES PER HOUR. THE COMPLETE LOSS IN POWER MEANT I HAD NO ABILITY TO POWER MY CAR TO A SAFE LOCATION; RATHER, I HAD TO COAST BETWEEN TRAFFIC TO AN AREA OF THE ROAD UNDER CONSTRUCTION. IF TRAFFIC HAD BEEN HEAVIER, THIS COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC, LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALER INFORMED ME I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY AS MY THROTTLE BODY APPEARED TO BE "RUSTED OUT". THE CAR IS KEPT INSIDE A GARAGE IN THE WARM CLIMATE OF DALLAS, TEXAS SO I'M NOT SURE HOW THE THROTTLE BODY "RUSTED OUT". FURTHERMORE, THE CAR HAS HAD ALL SUGGESTED AND REQUIRED DEALERSHIP MAINTENANCE ITEMS PERFORMED TO IT SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW. THE TOTAL COST TO REPAIR THE THROTTLE BODY WAS $1,193.84 WHICH I HAD TO PAY AS IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 6 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UP TO SPEEDS OF 40 MPH, MADE A LOUD AND UNUSUAL NOISE IN THE ENGINE. HE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY UTILIZING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY AND THE THROTTLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CALLED. THE UPDATED 05/27/10
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEARS ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE CONTACT WOULD DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE REPAIR FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, HE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF ABNORMAL ACCELERATION. IN EACH INCIDENT, HE WAS UNABLE TO INITIALLY BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP UNTIL PLACING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COASTING TO A STOP. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 179,199 AND THE CURRENT WAS 182,000.
ON AUGUST 30, 2009, I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DAUGHTER'S DRIVEWAY, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKES. THE CAR SWERVED ONTO MY DAUGHTER'S FRONT LAWN AND PROPELLED ITSELF ONTO HER NEIGHBOR'S LAWN, WHERE IT WEDGED BETWEEN 2 TRESS. THE TIRES CONTINUED TO SPIN WHEN I WAS WEDGED AND SOMEONE LEANED INTO THE CAR AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. I HAVE WITNESSES TO THE ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AT SUBURBAN TOYOTA-SCION IN TROY, MI. THIS CAR IS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO HIS. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THROUGH A SCHOOL ZONE, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO THE RIGHT AND CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED ON SCENE. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES AND BRUISES. THE MANUFACTURER INVESTIGATED THE VEHICLE FURTHER AND COULD NOT FIND ANY TECHNICAL ERRORS IN THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE CRASH WAS INCONCLUSIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 04/27/10. *LJ UPDATED 07/08/10.*JB
TL*THE DRIVER OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE. THE DRIVER FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER INCREASED TO 50 MPH. SHE QUICKLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, SHIFTED INTO PARK AND USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN SEPTEMBER 2009, SHE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 85 MPH AND SHE PULLED OVER AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER 3-5 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER TOLD THE DRIVER THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD THE CONTACT THAT BECAUSE THE DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEMS, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY- COMPLAINED A YEAR AGO THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STICKING- I HAVE INVOICE AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTOR BUT NOW I AM SUSPICIOUS- IN ADDITION THE THING THAT HOLDS MY FLOOR MAT IN PLACE TO PREVENT IT FROM SLIDING NEAR THE PEDAL BROKE OFF AND THAT IS NOT RECALLED RECALL MY 2005 SINCE IT NEEDS TO BE AND I HAVE INVOICES FOR THE REPAIRS BEFORE THE RECALLS WERE ANNOUNCED WHICH SHOULD BE PROOF ENOUGH THE CAR WAS MESSED UP- 2005 WITH 50,000 MILES- CAR IS AN EXTRA CAR THAT IS RARELY DRIVEN...... *TR
I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED TIMELY AND PROPERLY, DRIVEN PROPERLY, WASHED, WAXED, AND BASICALLY TREATED LIKE A NEW BORN BABY. MY COMPLAINT IS AS FOLLOWS: I WAS CLEANING THE INSIDE OF MY CAR AND AS I DUSTED OFF THE SPEAKER COVERS(AS I'VE DONE FOR 2 YEARS NOW), THEY BEGAN TO CRACK AND CRUMBLE INTO SMALL PIECES. THE SMALL PIECES FELL DOWN INTO THE SPEAKERS. I NOW HAVE HOLES IN MY SPEAKER COVERS AND CANNOT RETRIEVE THE PIECES FROM THE SPEAKERS. THE SPEAKERS ARE RATTLING AND ARE DAMAGED DUE TO THE CRUMBLED SPEAKER COVER PIECES. I HAVE NEVER PLACED ANYTHING ON THE SPEAKERS OR TRAVELED WITH ANYTHING ON THE REAR DASH. I UNDERSTAND THIS MAY NOT BE VIEWED AS A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD DEEM THIS A RECALL AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE SPEAKERS AND SPEAKER COVERS AT NO CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER. THIS CANNOT BE PERCEIVED AS A CONSUMER ERROR, THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE. OWNERS THAT BOUGHT NEW OR USED SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BEAR THE BURDEN OF REPLACING THE PARTS, DEDUCTIBLES, OR SERVICE CHARGES. *TR
I GOT INTO MY 05 TOYOTA CAMRY 4CYL AND AS I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I NOTICED A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT RATHER SHARPLY AND THE CAR REMAINED TRAVELING STRAIGHT. I PULLED BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND TRIED AGAIN - THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY CHECKED IT FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE DAY AND SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND COULD NOT GET IT TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD A FEW MINOR INCIDENTS OF THE CAR NOT TURNING TO THE DEGREE THAT IT SHOULD WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AN NO ONE CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN MY CAR. *TR
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN THROUGH TOWN AND HAD STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED TO TURN RIGHT CAR SUDDENLY OVER ACCELERATED AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN EVEN WHEN SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES.
