THE ENGINE ROARED AND IMMEDIATELY I WAS GOING TOO FAST. PUT ON THE BRAKES AND IT DID NOT REOCCUR BUT IT SCARED ME. I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND TURNING INTO THE RIGHT LANE FROM THE LEFT LANE. FORTUNATELY THE STREET WAS NOT TOO BUSY. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING.
'TAKATA RECALL' ON THE FIRST START IN THE MORNING AN AMPLE AMOUNT OF WHITE SMOKE COMES OUT THE EXHAUST. I HAVE NOT DETECTED ANY ODOR. I UNDERSTAND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT OWN THE CAMRY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
TAKATA RECALL, THE ENGINE SMOKE WHITE IN THE STARTUP WHEN THE CAR SET FOR A DAY OR SO.
WE NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR SO WE TOOK IT INTO OUR MECHANIC WHO TOLD US THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. HE NOTED THAT UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THAT YEAR MODEL AND REPAIRING IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY COSTLY. WE WERE TOLD WE SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT ANYMORE BECAUSE THE ENGINE COULD QUIT ON US AT ANYTIME. MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE CRANK CASE DIPSTICK AND THE RADIATOR, BOTH WERE CONTAMINATED WITH RUST.AT THIS POINT IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WE COULD NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR. .

MY CAR STARTED MAKING CLICKING NOISES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD WHEN I TURNED A CORNER. I TOOK IT TO GATEWAY TOYOTA TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND FOUND OUT THAT THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. MY PROBLEM WITH NEEDING A TRANSMISSION IS THAT THE CAR WAS MADE TO BE IN AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE. IN THE MANUAL IS STATES THAT THE OVERDRIVE SHOULD ALWAYS BE ON. I BELIEVE THAT DRIVING WITH THE OVERDRIVE ON AT ALL TIMES CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO EVENTUALLY FAIL BEFORE ITS TIME. I ALSO BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE WHEN I TURN OFF THE OVERDRIVE, THE CAR DRIVES FINE. IN ADDITION, MANY MECHANICS I HAVE TALKED TO STATED THAT THE OVERDRIVE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE USED THAT OFTEN AND IT IS STRANGE THAT THE TOYOTA CAMRYS WERE BUILT TO HAVE THE OVERDRIVE ON CONTINUOUSLY. I KNOW THAT THERE IS NO RECALL,BUT I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS OFTEN, BUT MAY NOT BE REPORTED DUE TO THE MILEAGE.

MY CAR IS 88000 MILES, ITS 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY STANDARD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. ONE FINE DAY, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I GOT AN ENGINE LIGHT CHECK. I COULDN'T STOP ON THE ROAD, SO TOOK AN EXIT AND WHEN I SLOWED DOWN WHILE ON THE EXIT RAMP THE ENGINE STOPPED SUDDENLY. I THOUGH ITS ONE OFF INCIDENT AND START IT AGAIN AND STARTED DRIVING, BUT AT THE NEXT IMMEDIATE SIGNAL LIGHT, I HAD TO STOP FOR THE RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE STOPPED AGAIN. I GOT IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CAR MECHANIC, THEY SAID, IT'S THE ENGINE LOCKED PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WANTED TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND GOT IT TOWED TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, HE TOLD THE SAME, ENGINE LOCKED. IF I WERE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SHOP THEY WOULD TAKE EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF MONEY TO JUST FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. I AM EXTREMELY PISSED THAT TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE WOULD FAIL FOR 88,000 MILES. TR
AT 60667 MILES, CAR DIAGNOSED WITH OIL PAN AND WATER PUMP LEAKAGE. COST OF REPAIR APPROXIMATELY $900 AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. CAR HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND MAINTAINED AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS WITH NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS. WHILE TOYOTA HAD A MASSIVE RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE WATER PUMPS AND WITH NO APPARENT MILEAGE LIMIT AND FOR YEARS AS FAR BACK AS 2001 MODELS, THE 2005 BASE CAMRY DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE WATER PUMP LEAKAGE IN THIS MODEL YEAR IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD BE DESTROYED WITHIN A FEW MONTHS IF IT WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS WHERE VARIOUS REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,770.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATIONS OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V539000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THE DEALER STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE CRANK SHAFT PULLEY WAS NOT DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT HOWEVER STATED THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING, AS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TO THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE DENIAL OF RECALL REPAIRS AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO STAND BY THE DECISION OF THE TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
MY 2005 CAMRY HAS 53000 ON IT, VERY WELL MAINTAINED. WAS DRIVING 25 MPH ON A TRAVERSE WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR WITHOUT SUCCESS. CALLED A TOWING SERVICE, HOWEVER, 10 MINUTES LATER I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND DROVE HOME. THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT REMAINED ON. AT FIRST CHANCE I DROVE MY CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT SUGGESTED TO BRING MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER BECAUSE HE HAD SEEN SO MANY OF CAMRY THROTTLE MALFUNCTIONS THAT HE THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE A RECALL. I TOOK HIS ADVICE, BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT MY THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING. HOWEVER HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF UNLESS I HAD AN ENGINE FLUSH AND A FULL TUNE-UP. THIS DID NOT SIT WELL WITH ME, SO I DECLINED THE SERVICES. I PAID HIM $100 AS A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. WHEN HE WENT TO GET MY CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. I CALLED A TOWING COMPANY WHO TOOK IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC. HE REPLACED THE THROTTLE AND RESET THE SERVICE LIGHT. THE CAR IS NOW RUNNING, BUT BECAUSE OF MY MECHANIC'S STATEMENT AND MANY SIMILAR THROTTLE COMPLAINTS RECORDED ON THE INTERNET, I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THE THROTTLE ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *KB

MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY IS LEAKING COOLANT. I DISCOVERED THERE HAS BEEN A LONG TERM PROBLEM WITH STRIPPED ENGINE BOLTS IN TOYOTAS, RESULTING IN LEAKING COOLANT AND THE NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN 2002-2006 CAMRYS AND HIGHLANDERS CAUSING WIDESPREAD COMPLAINTS BUT NO ACTION FROM TOYOTA. THEY MADE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT, PUTTING THE BURDEN BACK ON THE CONSUMER. MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY (70,000 MILES) STALLED YESTERDAY AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO DROP MY SON TO SCHOOL YESTERDAY AND THE CAR STALLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN BUSY TRAFFIC. MY 8 YEAR OLD SON WAS TERRIFIED WHEN THE CAR SIMPLY STOPPED ON A BUSY STATE ROAD. AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR SHE SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT IN SPITE OF PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING AND THEN SHE REALIZED THAT THE CAR HAD STALLED. THIS CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR SERVICES AT A TOYOTA DEALER. I HAVE DROPPED MY CAR AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST TO GET THIS REPAIRED IS ABOUT $1200, WHICH BY NO MEANS IS A SMALL AMOUNT. AFTER SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET IT LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE MANY TOYOTA CAMRY OWNERS (MODEL 04 THROUGH 06) WHO HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. SO IT DEFINITELY LOOKS LIKE A WIDESPREAD AND NOT A ONE OFF ISSUE. IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER. ITS A SHAME THAT A CAR COMPANY LIKE TOYOTA HASN'T OWNED UP THIS PROBLEM AND RECALLED THE CARS YET. ON 1/10/11THE "CHECK ENGINE", "TRAC OFF", AND "VSC" WARNING LIGHTS IN MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V-6 VEHICLE BECAME ACTIVATED. THE MILEAGE WAS 89961.SERVICE ADVISOR [XXX] AT VANDERGRIFF TOYOTA IN ARLINGTON, TX. ADVISED THAT THE WARNING LIGHTS HAD BEEN ACTIVATED BECAUSE ONE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OSF APPR. $1500. TO RESTORE THE TWO SAFETY FUNCTIONS. [XXX], A CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPV. AT THE TOYOTA 800 NUMBER CONFIRMED THAT THE TWO SAFETY FUNCTIONS WERE DISABLED WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON AND THAT THEY COULD NOT BE RESTORED UNLESS THE DEFECTIVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED, IE, THE COMPUTER COULD NOT BE RESET TO RESTORE THE SAFETY FUNCTIONS. THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY, BUT I HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF THE USE OF THE " TRAC " AND " VSC" SAFETY FUNCTIONS FOR WHICH I PAID EXTRA SINCE THESE FUNCTIONS WERE OPTIONS WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AT STEVINSON TOYOTA IN GOLDEN, CO.
