WAITING IN OFFICE DRIVEWAY TO MAKE RIGHT TURN NORTH ON ROADWAY. ALL OF A SUDDEN INSTEAD OF TURNING, MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED EXTREMELY FAST STRAIGHT ACROSS 4 LANES OF NORTH & SOUTH TRAFFIC. APPLIED BRAKE HARD & WAS LUCKY TO STOP JUST SHORT OF SLAMMING INTO SIDEWALK & STORES. IT WAS A MIRACLE NO CARS BROADSIDED ME ON MY RIGHT OR LEFT. *TR
THE DASH PAD SURFACE STARTED TO BECOME DARK IN COLOR AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH IN THE SUNSHINE. THE DASH PAD MATERIAL WAS VERY SHINY AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH, ALMOST LIKE A LIQUID. THE GLARE FROM THE SHINY, STICKY SURFACE CAUSES A GLARE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES THE CAR DANGEROUS TO DRIVE...AND A GREATER CONCERN ARE THE AIRBAGS IN THE DASH AFFECTED BY THIS SURFACE DETERIORATION. I TOOK THE CAR TO TWO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS SEEKING RESOLUTION AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE SEEM NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF THIS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SHORT OF MY PAYING APPROX. $1,500 TO REPLACE THE PART. CONTACT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE HAD THEM TELLING ME I HAD DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE SITUATION. TO-DATE THE CAR (MY WIFE'S VEHICLE) SITS INSIDE, UNDER A CUSTOM CAR COVER AND HAS LESS THAN 11,000 MILES...WE CONSIDER THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 30,000.
ONE OF THE FLOORMAT HOOKS HOLDING THE FLOORMAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE PULLS OUT OF THE HOLE IN THE VEHICLE'S FLOOR OCCASIONALLY, ALLOWING THE FLOORMAT TO SHIFT POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 4 TIMES IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. *TR
4 CYLINDER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONSOLE SHIFTER MECHANISM IS SUPPOSED TO LOCK WHEN PLACED INTO PARK. SAFETY LOCK SHOULD NOT RELEASE SHIFTER FROM PARK UNLESS THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RELEASE BUTTON ON SHIFTER ARE BOTH DEPRESSED. ON MY CAR, THE SHIFTER WILL COME OUT OF PARK JUST BY MOVING IT, WHETHER OR NOT THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION, AND WHETHER OR NOT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND/OR THE RELEASE BUTTON ARE DEPRESSED. I PULLED OFF THE TRIM COVER OVER THE MECHANISM AND FOUND THAT THE WHITE PLASTIC PART THAT ROTATES OVER THE LOCK PIN HAD OVER-ROTATED SO THAT THE LOCK PIN MISSED ITS ENTRY INTO THE SLOT. I RETURNED IT TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION AND THE MECHANISM APPEARED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AGAIN. HOWEVER, ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE PROBLEM HAS RE-OCCURRED SO I THINK IT WILL REQUIRE NEW PARTS. OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE: TRANSMISSION CAN BE KNOCKED OUT OF PARK AT ANY TIME. *TR
2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, HE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE FIRST TIME THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED, HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, WENT OVER A CURB AND IMPACTED THE SIDE OF A BUILDING. HE IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, USING THE KEY. THE AIR BAD DID NOT DEPLOY. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JUNE 30, 2014. HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL, IT WENT OVER A CURB AND INTO A FENCE. HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE AIR BAD DID NOT DEPLOY IN THE SECOND ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER SOLD THE VEHICLE ON AUGUST 27, 2014. *JB
BRAKE LAMP FAILURES FOR 2002-2006 TOYOTA CAMRYS. SINCE 2002, I'VE SEEN HUNDREDS OF THESE MODELS WITH BURNED OUT BRAKE LIGHTS. JUST TODAY ON MY WAY TO WORK, I SPOTTED THREE. ONE ONLY HAD IT'S THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WORKING AND IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN COMING TO A STOP! TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. THESE NEWER VEHICLES SHOULD NOT BE BURNING THOUGH LIGHTS AT THIS LEVEL. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD TO PUBLIC SAFETY. *TR
THE ENTIRE OUTER TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, LEAVING THE SIDEWALLS INTACT. OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH AT 6AM ON FREEWAY. THE TIRE PRESSURE SLOWLY LEAKED OUT WHILE DRIVING OFF OF FREEWAY. STEELBELTS DO NOT APPEAR TO BE DAMAGED AND ARE THE ONLY THING LEFT IN TREAD AREA. WHEN TREAD SEPARATED, A LOUD NOISE OCCURRED AND REAR FENDER AREA WAS MODERATELY DAMAGED. *TR
2006 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES SUDDENLY, THEY CAUGHT AND THEN RELEASE AND CAUGHT AGAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHERE IT BOUGHT THREE TIMES AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENING. S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING RE TOYOTA RECENT ACCELERATION PROBLEM, OWNER OF A 2007 CAMRY GAS PEDAL STICKS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE REACHED UP TO A SPEED OF 85 MPH. THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO REACH DOWN AND PULL THE FLOOR MAT UP AND FINALLY THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. *JB,
MY DASHBOARD IS VERY BADLY CRACKED. TOYOTA SAYS THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FRONT DASH AT A COST OF $1500. THIS DEFECT WILL DRASTICALLY AFFECT THE TRADE IN VALUE OF THIS CAR. PICTURES CAN BE PROVIDED. *JS
POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE IS CORRODED, INCLUDING THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY TERMINAL. CORROSION WAS A LARGE MOUND WHEN WE OPENED HOOD TO ADD WASHER FLUID. TRIED TO REMOVE CORROSION AND DISCOVERED THE ENTIRE CONNECTION TO BATTERY TERMINAL HAS DISINTEGRATED. RIGGED IT UP WITH $3 PART FROM AUTOZONE. DEALER STATES THEY'VE NEVER HAD ANY SUCH PROBLEMS. DEALERSHIP HAS THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR. I AM THERE EVERY 5000 MILES....LIKE CLOCKWORK. CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T SEE SIGNS OF THIS ON LAST VISIT. THEY WANT $3100 TO REPLACE THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS! WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I DIDN'T CATCH THIS? IT WOULD HAVE SHORTED OUT AND POSSIBLY CAUGHT FIRE. *TR

OUR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY'S DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS VERY STICKY. IT HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR 6 YEARS. WE WEREN'T SURE WHAT WAS WRONG AT FIRST, BECAUSE WE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED. TRIED TO SLOW AT AN INTERSECTION AND WHEN I HIT BRAKES, THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED A HEAD ON CRASH! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE AND IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE AIR BAGS, THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE PASSENGER'S SEAT AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, ALL AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THAT HE SHOULD CONTACT THE DEALER FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,417 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 234,000. UPDATED 012/14/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE LOCAL DEALER OFFERED $1,000 ASSISTANCE OF THE TOTAL COST ($3,300) AS A GOODWILL GESTURE. THE CONSUMER DECLINED. UPDATED 12/17/2012 *JS
LEAKING HEAD GASKET-CAR BEGAN MAKING INTERMITTENT CLICKING NOISE. DEALER CHECKED AND SAID NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT-PROBABLY LOOSE FUEL PUMP. THEY TIGHTENED THAT. STILL NOISE. TOOK IT BACK-"OOPS" IT'S A LEAKING HEAD GASKET THEY SAID HAD BEEN DEFECTIVE SINCE MANUFACTURE. HAD I CONTINUED TO DRIVE I COULD HAVE EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT ANY SPEED. *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES,ENGINE SURGES AND CONTINUES TO SURGE UNTIL BRAKES ARE RELEASED. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLE. WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE I HAVE TO ACCELERATE, FOR EXAMPLE WHEN CHANGING LANES ON THE HIGHWAY AND TRYING TO INCREASE SPEED, THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND THERE IS A DELAY AND THEN WILL INCREASE IN POWER. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THIS ALSO HAPPENED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN I WAS TURNING LEFT, I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL-THE VEHICLE HESITATED, THEN POWER WAS REINSTATED. THIS IS A DAILY OCCURRENCE AND IT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. I BELIEVE A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM AND POTENTIAL EFFECTS IT COULD HAVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER PROCEEDED THROUGH A STOP SIGN CAUSING THE DRIVER TO CRASH AND REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO SUSTAIN INJURIES TO HER CHEST, LEFT LEG AND BROKEN FINGERS ON HER LEFT HAND. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY FAILURES WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
ACCELERATOR STUCK ON 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. TOYOTA TOLD ME IT HAD TO BE THE ELECTRONICS AND NOT THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. I WAS SO AFRAID I HAD THE THROTTLE ASSEMPBLY REPLACED ANYWAY AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THIS WAS ALL BEFORE THE RECENT PUBLICITY. I HAVE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR REVIEW. TOYOTA NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THE HISTORY OF ISSUESS NOR OFFERED TO PAY FOR THIS. UPDATED 02/24/10
WHEN I TRIED TO LOWER THE POWER WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY THE WINDOW SYSTEM MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE BUT IT WOULD NOT LOWER. IT SEEMS LIKE THE WINDOW FELL OFF ITS TRACK AND IS NOW INOPERABLE. TOYOTA CORP. SAID THEY WOULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY WHICH JUST RAN OUT TWO WEEKS AGO. I BELIEVE THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. IN 2008 TOYOTA RECALLED THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLAS FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THE CAMRY MODEL. 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY SURGED UNEXPECTEDLY. INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED OCCURRING WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. UNCONTROLLED SURGE CAUSED VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO OTHER OBJECTS. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT INFLATE. *TR

THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES ON HER HAND. THERE WERE DAMAGES TO THE REAR BUMPER, EXTERIOR LIGHTS AND FRAME STRUCTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TGW THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER SLOWED DOWN. WHEN SHE PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE STARTED GOING FASTER. THERE WERE CARS ON BOTH SIDES OF HER, BUT SHE WAS ABLE TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT JUST MISSING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. WHEN SHE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. ONE YEAR LATER, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT, THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MPH ABOUT TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE, SHE PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. SHE SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND STOPPED WITHIN A FOOT OF THE POLE. A MONTH AFTER THAT INCIDENT, SHE WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE TO PREPARE TO EXIT, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. SHE TOOK HER FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
MY CAR 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY HAD SUDDEN ACCELERATE FROM STOPPED POSITION AT A YIELD AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT THOUGH DAMAGE TO THE FRONT CAR WAS NOT SIGNIFICANT. I STILL COULD NOT FIGURED IT OUT WHY THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED SINCE I DRIVE CAREFULLY. NO OTHER ACCIDENT ON THE RECORD SINCE I STARTED DRIVING FROM 2003. IT HAPPENED AROUND 9AM ON MY DAILY ROUTE TO WORKPLACE. RECENTLY I HEARD ABOUT TOYOTA RECALLS FOR CAMRY 2007 TO 2010. BUT I AM NOT SURE IF MY CAR ALSO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM. ONCE I VISITED TO SERVICE CENTER AFTER THE INCIDENT FOR REGULAR SERVICE THEN THEY MENTIONED THAT MY CAR'S BRAKE & GAS PEDALS NEED CLEAN-UP OR I HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED. SINCE THEY TOLD LITTLE HIGHER AMOUNT I TOLD NO FOR REPAIR. I AM NOT SURE IF MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2006 TOO HAVE THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN RECALL. I HAVE INCIDENT REPORTED WITH MY INSURER AND CAN PROVIDE CLAIM NUMBER, DOCUMENTS, INSURER INFO ETC AS REQUIRED. THERE WERE NO CHARGES PAID TO ANY VEHICLE IN THIS MINOR INCIDENT TILL NOW BUT INSURER HAS KEPT THIS INCIDENT OPEN TILL NOW IF OTHER PARTY MAKES NEW CLAIMS. I STILL THINK WHY MY VEHICLE HAD SUDDEN ACCELERATION SO THOUGHT TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT WITH DOT. *TR
POPPING AND LOOSE STEERING WHILE TURNING, STOPPING , ACCELERATING OR JUST DRIVING. THE FAILURE IS THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT, THE OCCURRENCE IS CONSTANT WHILE DRIVING. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
2006 TOYOTA SOLARA SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHEN LEAVING A PARKING LOT SPACE. STARTED A CHAIN REACTION ULTIMATELY INVOLVING THE SOLARA AND FOUR OTHER CARS. NO PERSONAL INJURY SINCE ALL CARS EXCEPT THE SOLARA WERE PARKED. ESTIMATE $35-40K IN PROPERTY DAMAGE. AFTER REPAIRS, TOOK THE SOLARA TO A TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID THE PROBLEM WAS A CARBON BUILD UP IN THE THROTTLE SYSTEM. *TR

I MADE DEALERSHIP CORRECT WORDING ON REPAIR ORDER. HAS DONE 4 MORE TIMES BUT NOT ON RECALL LIST. ON MARCH 6TH READ IN PRESS ENTERPRISE A CAR DRIVEN BY [XXX] SUDDENLY SPED UP TO 100 MPH ON EUCLID - SAME DAY CHP OFFICER DIED. PROBLEM; MINE AND [XXX] VEHICLE IS A '2006 CAMRY NOT ON RECALL LIST".. MY DASH IS CRACKING AND FALLING APART. WHAT KIND OF ENGINEERING IS THIS THAT THE DASH FALLS APART IN SUCH A SHORT TIME IN A CAR THAT IS SUPPOSED TO OUT LAST ITS COMPETITORS.
2006 TOYOTA CAMRY 4 LE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NOISE, COMPANY SENT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ST001-06 DATED 02.16.2006 TO DEALERS FOR REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY. OWNER NEVER MADE AWARE OF THIS. I BECAME AWARE OF 'STEERING KNOCKS' TWO MONTHS AGO, WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN WARRANTY (UNDER 36,000 MILES). TOLD BY DEALERS SERVICE 'ADVISER' THAT THIS WAS NORMAL 'PLAY'. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEEMS TO BE "STICKY" AND HAS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE PURCHASE - IF YOU DEPRESS THE PEDAL, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE SPEED WHEN IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY. THE VEHICLE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. SHE HAS NOT EXPERIENCED THE ACCELERATION FAILURE AGAIN, BUT SHE HAS NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE SLOW TO RESPOND. MY MOTHER HAS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. AT NIGHT, I NOTICED HER DRIVING WITHOUT HER HEADLIGHTS ON. I STOPPED HER, AND WE GOT HER HEADLIGHTS ON. LATER, I WAS DRIVING HER CAMRY AT NIGHT, AND I NOTICED THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS WERE ON, BUT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE OFF. THE ONLY SETTING TO GET THE HEADLIGHTS ON TURNED OFF THE INSTRUMENTS LIGHTS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WENT TO THE HUNTSVILLE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. A MECHANIC JIGGLED THE SWITCH, AND EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. IT IS OBVIOUS THE TOYOTA MECHANICS KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. AFTER I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE I FOUND HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWNED CAMRYS OF VARIOUS YEARS WHO ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA'S RESOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BACK PANEL FOR A COST OF $700 THAT INCLUDES LABOR. THESE ARE $30 SPEAKER COVERS THAT COULD BE REPLACED FOR LESS THAN $75 INSTALLED. WITH THE NUMEROUS CASES REPORTED ON THE INTERNET WITH HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED OR COME UP WITH A VIABLE SOLUTION THAT ISN'T $700. *TR
