TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING UPHILL APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING OVER 80 MPH AND WITHIN SECONDS THE VEHICLE WENT AIRBORNE OVER A RETAINING WALL AND INTO SOMEONE'S YARD. THE TIRES BLEW OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE LANDED ON THE GROUND AND THE RPMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE UNTIL SHE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. SHE RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT KNEE, ANKLE, CUTS AND BRUISES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATED THE CRASH AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FLOOR MAT CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR SINCE IT WAS NOT HOOKED TO THE MAT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED; HOWEVER, SHE SOLD THE VEHICLE TO THE SALVAGE YARD. TOYOTA CONCLUDED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL; THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST HER WITH THE COST FOR THE DAMAGES. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 19,773. UPDATED 03/19/10. *LJ THE CONSUMERS INSURANCE COMPANY CONCLUDED AN UNHOOKED FLOOR MAT WAS THE CAUSE EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE IT WAS JAMMED UNDER THE PEDAL AT THE TIME OF THE INSPECTION. FRONT END COLLISION WITH 2006 TOYOTA CAMERA. 40-45 MPH CRASH. SEAT BELT FAILED TO FIRE. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ENGINEERING ANALYSIS CONFIRMED THAT SEAT BELTS DID NOT FIRE, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, TORN-DEFECTIVE AIR BAG SENSOR. RESEARCH INDICATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS AIR-BAG SYSTEM FOR TOYOTA CAMERA'S 2006 MODEL BUT WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. NEED GOVERNMENT AGENCY TO ANALYZE COMPUTER CODES. AMBER PLACE SAN ANTONIO, TX 78221 NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION HIGHWAY SAFETY ADMINISTRATION WASHINGTON, DC RE: TOYOTA ACCELERATION COMPLAINT TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: THIS COMPLAINT INVOLVES MY WIFES 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY LE VEHICLE. THE COMPLAINT IS ABOUT A SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLES ENGINE WILL REV UP AND LURCH FORWARD WHILE AT A DEAD STOP. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WHEN I DRIVE HER VEHICLE AND AM AT A DEAD STOP ON LEVEL GROUND THE VEHICLE WILL ENGINE WILL ACCELERATE AND INADVERTENTLY MOVE FORWARD. AT TIMES IT EVEN APPEARS AS IF THERE IS ANOTHER VEHICLE RIGHT BEHIND THAT IS PUSHING OUR AUTOMOBILE. THE VEHICLES TIMING AND AIR AND FUEL CARBURIZATION SETTING ARE CORRECT AND HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO APPARENT WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEED I.E. LESS THAN THIRTY MILES PER HOUR. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT WITH THIS VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, MY WIFE WAS AT A DEAD STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A TRAFFIC STOP SIGN. SHE WAS WAITING TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND ENTER INTO A MAIN THOROUGHFARE. WHILE STOPPED A BICYCLIST BEGAN CROSSING THE STREET FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. HE WAS RIDING UPON HIS BIKE AND AT APPROXIMATELY THE TIME HE WAS IN FRONT OF MY WIFES VEHICLE IT LURCHED FORWARD AND KNOCKED HIM DOWN. THIS INCIDENT TRAUMATIZED MY WIFE. SHE IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WENT TO ATTEND TO THE FALLEN BICYCLIST. HE PICKED UP HIS BIKE AND WALKED IT OFF THE STREET ONTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STREET SIDEWALK. AT THIS TIME MY REENTERED HER VEHICLE AND BACKED THE VEHICLE FAR ENOUGH SO IT WOULD NOT OBSTRUCT THE STOP TRAFFIC SIGN AND AGAIN EXITED THE VEHICLE. SHE ASKED THE TO THE BICYCLIST IF HE WAS INJURED, DID HE NEED AN AMBULANCE, AND ALSO THAT SHE WAS GOING TO CONTACT THE SAN ANTONIO POLICE DEPARTMENT TO MAKE A REPORT OF THE INCIDENT. MY WIFE HAD HER MOBILE TELEPHONE OUT AND WAS READY TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CALLS THAT ACCOMPANY A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. THE BICYCLIST
2006 SOLARA HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS IN THE VINYL COVERING OF THE DASH PAD....INCLUDING AREAS AROUND THE AIR BAGS MOUNTED IN THE DASH. CAR HAS 11,000 MILES, STORED INSIDE AND UNDER A CUSTOM COVER. IN ADDITION TO THE CRACKS, THE VINYL COVERING IS VERY STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND EMITS A STRONG ODOR. TOYOTA DECLINED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS NOW WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THE ISSUE DUE TO A LAPSED WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM IS AFFECTING HUNDREDS OF OWNERS OF BOTH TOYOTA AND LEXUS MODELS YET TOYOTA ASSERTS THE PROBLEMS ARE COSMETIC. THE CAR IS SELDOM DRIVEN FOR FEAR THE AIR BAGS MIGHT DEPLOY AND UNCERTAIN OF THE HEALTH ISSUES RELATED TO THE VINYL ODORS THE CAR EMITS. *TR
AT 27 MONTHS INTO THE CARS STANDARD WARRANTY (LESS THAN 5000 MILES) THE DASH PAD ACROSS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR BEGAN TO SHOW SIGNS OF CRACKS IN RANDOM AREAS, OF VARYING LENGTHS INCLUDING AREAS WHERE THE AIRBAGS ARE STORED. MY CLOSEST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (SOUTH DADE TOYOTA) IN HOMESTEAD , FL. INSPECTED THE DAMAGED AREAS, COMPLETED NO PAPER WORK AND STATED "THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR SOME TOYOTA AND LEXUS MODELS AND THERE IS NOTHINGS THAT CAN BE DONE SHORT OF THE CUSTOMER PAYING FOR A NEW DASH PAD ASSEMBLY AND IT'S INSTALLATION". MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE HER CAR, AND WE ARE AFRAID TO SELL THE CAR FOR FEAR OF LIABILITY THAT THE AIR BAGS MIGHT NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED OR DEPLOY IN AN UNINTENDED MANNER. TOYOTA CONTINUES TO AVOID THE ISSUE DESPITE THE FACT THERE ARE 100'S OF AFFECTED OWNERS USING THESES DAMAGED VEHICLES. *TR
NOTICED HAIRLINE CRACKS IN DASH PAD AND RELATED TRIM AND THE DASH PAD SURFACE WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY STICKY TO THE TOUCH. THE GLARE OF THE STICKY DASH PAD AND THE ODOR IT EMITS...LEAVING A RESIDUE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDOWS. WE NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR OF THE AIR BAGS THAT IN THE DASH PAD NOT WORKING AS PLANNED. NEW IMPROVED PART # IS 55401-AA060-E0. *TR
ODOMETER READS 10% HIGH. THIS IS VERIFIED WITH TWO DIFFERENT GPS UNITS SIMULTANEOUSLY AS WELL AS HIGHWAY RADAR SIGNS. DEALER (TAYLOR TOYOTA) FALSELY CLAIMS ODOMETER/SPEEDOMETER IS ACCURATE. THIS MAY LEAD TO DRIVING TOO SLOWLY, AND ALSO FALSELY INDICATES A HIGHER MILEAGE THAN TRUE, DEVALUING THE VEHICLE. *TR
2006 V6 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE IN ICY CONDITIONS. VEHICLE STRUCK CONCRETE EMBANKMENT AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 50-70 MPH. NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT. SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO FRONT, REAR AND LEFT REAR. CAR DETERMINED TO BE TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY. NEITHER FRONT NOR SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER SUFFERED CONTUSION TO HEAD WITH NO OTHER INJURIES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA. AT 18,000 MILES, THE CONTACT FELT A VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35-70 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT NO REPAIRS WERE MADE BECAUSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE SPRINGS PROVE THAT THE TIRES ARE RUBBING AGAINST THE SPRINGS OFTEN, BUT NOT CONTINUOUSLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,126 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING SPACE AT APPROXIMATELY 1-2 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED, ANOTHER DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE STATED THAT THE ENGINE REVVED SLIGHTLY A FEW TIMES. HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE HIM A FEE TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,629. UPDATED 04/13/10. *LJ UPDATED 10/08/10
2006 SOLARA WAS DRIVEN BY MY SON WHO WAS FOUND DEAD IN A CANAL ON 1/28/08 BY A PASSERBY. THE CAR HAD THE TENDENCY TO HAVE THE FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE RIDE UP, WHICH I WAS USED TO AS IT WAS MY CAR. THEREFORE, I SUSPECT THE FLOOR MAT RODE UP ONTO ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING CAR TO BE UNABLE TO STOP WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS FOUND UPSIDE DOWN WITH THE CAR IN PARK WITH THE KEYS REMOVED IN 4' OF WATER WITH MY ONLY CHILD LAYING FACE DOWN IN THE WATER DEAD. SINCE THE RECALL CAME AFTER HIS DEATH, THE CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN SALVAGED AND NOT ABLE TO HAVE PROOF TO DETERMINE CAUSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CAMRY LE WHICH HAS DEVELOPED A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING SHAFT OR COLUMN SOMEWHERE BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL. TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE NUMBER ON IT, BUT WILL NO DO ANYTHING UNLESS THIS DETECT WAS REPORTED BEFORE 36,000 MILES. THEY REQUIRE YOU TO FIND THEIR DETECT IT EARLY AND IF YOU FIND IT LATER AFTER 36,000 MILES THEY SAY THAT'S TOO BAD YOU ARE TOO LATE. THIS IS JUST WRONG !! THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, YET THEY HOPE YOU PASS 36,000 MILES SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO FIX THEIR KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
DASH HAS CRACKS ALL OVER. NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. ONE OWNER, WELL MAINTAINED, ADULT FEMALE OWNER. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING MADE ON THE BEHALF OF MY FATHER (WHO DOES NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS). MY FATHER'S 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA HAS A FAILURE WITH THE STEERING U JOINT SHAFT. HE HAS MADE REPEATED COMPLAINT'S TO TOYOTA, AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY/SOLARA CONVERTIBLE. IT HAS A TENDENCY TO HESITATE WHEN I ACCELERATE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS I DRIVE INTERSTATE 95 IN THE NORTHERN VA AREA AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WHILE TRYING TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ITEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE VEHICLE HAS BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL400-02, SIZE P215/55R17 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 66 MPH, THE CONTACT SUDDENLY NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE THEN FELT AS IF IT WERE RIDING ON THE RIM. HE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRE WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY MELTED. HE ALSO NOTICED RUBBER DEBRIS ON THE GROUND AND THAT THE FENDER HAD BLACK MARKS. WHEN THE TIRE COOLED DOWN, HE PLACED THE SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAS NOT YET BROUGHT THE TIRE TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 7,800. THE FIRESTONE DEALER STATED THE TREAD PUNCTURED, PRESSURE WAS LOST AND HEAT BURNED OUT THE SIDEWALL. UPDATED 11/15/07. *JB
DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL TONE IS VERY LOW AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO HEAR. DEALER TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO INCREASE THE VOLUME. SAFETY ISSUE IS WITH THE FACT THAT IT IS VERY EASY TO LEAVE THE SIGNAL ON IF YOU DO NOT MAKE A WIDE TURN. THIS DISTRACTS OTHER DRIVERS WHO ARE EXPECTING YOU TO MAKE A TURN. I REALIZE THAT THE SIGNAL FLASHES ON THE DASHBOARD BUT IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO SPOT WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR UPDATED 01/09/08. *LJ UPDATED 12/12/07 *TR
I AM CONCERNED THAT MY 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A TREE THEN SURGED FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BACK INTO THE PARKING AREA WITH TREES THAT I HAD REVERSED OUT OF. MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLES ENGINE REVVED AND SURGED BACK THROUGH THE TREES. IMPACT WITH TREE ON LEFT DRIVERS SIDE FIRST THEN VEHICLE SLAMMED INTO TREE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THERE IS NO TIME TO REACT TO THIS TYPE OF DEADLY SPEED ACCELERATION. WHEN MY VEHICLE DID COME TO A STOP IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WAS $4,300, MY INSURANCE DOUBLED AND I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AND THAT I DIDN'T KILL SOMEONE IN THE PARKING LOT. TOYOTA HAS NO RECALL FOR 2006 CAMRY BUT I HAVE COUNTED 50 TO 60 PLUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ALONE UNDER BRAKES, IGNITION, ACCELERATION ETC. TOYOTA SAYS I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WHICH IS TOTALLY UNFAIR. MY VEHICLE HAS DEPRECIATED QUICKLY IN VALUE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT, THE ACCIDENT, AND USED PARTS BEING USED IN THE ACCIDENT REPAIR. I FEEL AS IF I AM TAKING A CHANCE WITH MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY CHILD EACH TIME I DRIVE THIS CAR. YOU CANNOT GET THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL FAST ENOUGH TO AVOID A CRASH. THIS IS DEADLY SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED OVER A CURB AND THROUGH THE GLASS OF A STORE- FRONT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. HE CALLED THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. HOWEVER HE HAS NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. THE DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE AND THE STORE FRONT WERE OVER $17,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2006 CAMRY....WHILE INCHING MY CAR FORWARD IN MY DRIVEWAY TO POSITION THE CAR TO BACK IT UP, I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE AND MOVING AT A SPEED OF NO MORE THAN 2-3 MPH. THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHICH KEPT INCREASING. I WAS TAKEN BY SURPRISE, DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T ME. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. BEFORE I KNEW IT, I HIT HEAD ON THE VERY LARGE TREE AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 4 FT FROM THE TREE WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON, WHICH SAVED ME FROM SMACKING MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HEAD JERKED FORWARD AND I HAD A TREMENDOUS HEADACHE AFTERWARDS WITH PAIN IN MY NECK. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND MY HUSBAND REACHED IN THE WINDOW AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I STARTED IT UP AGAIN, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND I CAREFULLY MOVED IT AWAY FROM THE TREE. THE FORCE WITH WHICH I HIT THE TREE PUSHED IN MY FRONT END AND ALSO DID SOME DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD SINCE THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR TO CHECK THIS OUT. HE DID SAY THAT IF HE DOESN'T EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE BY TOYOTA. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM ANXIOUS FOR THE RESULTS AND WILL NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR. *JB
ON THIS DAY I HAD DRIVEN 100 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY. I PROCEEDED TO EXIT A RAMP AND MY 2006 SOLARA CONVERTIBLE LOST DRIVE. I WAS UNABLE TO PARK AND THE CAR WOULDN'T GO ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I TRIED REVERSE AND I WAS ABLE TO PARK BY BACKING UP. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES OF DRIVING WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO GET INTO DRIVE I MADE SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TO AAA. AFTER 30 MINUTES OF NOT USING THE CAR IT STARTED UP AND DRIVE WAS WORKING. I PROCEEDED ON MY TRIP. AFTERTHE CAR SAT FOR SEVERAL HOURS I BEGAN THE TRIP HOME. I MADE IT AS FAR AS THE EXIT WHERE THE HOTEL WAS I WAS TO STAY AT THAT NIGHT. UPON EXITING THE RAMP I AGAIN HAD NO DRIVE. IT WAS DARK AND NO LIGHTS AT THE EXIT. I WAS FRIGHTENED I WOULD BE HIT FROM BEHIND SO I WAS ABLE TO BACKUP ONTO A GRASSY AREA NEXT TO THE EXIT RAMP. AGAIN I HAD NO DRIVE. I WAITED FOR 20 MINUTES HOPING THIS WAS AGAIN A TEMPORARY PROBLEM. I TRIED AGAIN AND THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE SLOWLY WITH THE ENGINE SOUNDING LIKE I WAS GOING VERY FAST. THE CAR WAS BARELY MOVING AND I NOW SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I CALLED AAA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO FALMOUTH TOYOTA. (100 MILES BUT CLOSE TO HOME.) THE CAR HAS BEEN THERE A WEEK AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I AM TOLD THEY HAVE TESTED ALL THAT THEY CAN. A MECHANIC HAS DRIVEN IT SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE DIAGNOSITC EQUIPMENT ON IT BUT NOTHING HAS GONE WRONG. I PLEADED WITH THEM TO DRIVE IT IN EXCESS OF 60 MILES TO TRY AND DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY STATE THEY CAN'T JUSTIFY THAT. I'M TOLD I MUST TAKE BACK THE CAR WITHOUT KNOWING IF THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. IS THIS THE RELIABILITY I SHOULD EXPECT FROM TOYOTA? *TR
I HAVE A PROBLEM ON MY 2006 CAMRY LE. ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY ALMOST TO THE FLOORBOARD BEFORE THE CAR SLOWS DOWN OR STOPS. I ALSO DROVE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY, LOANER CAR, THAT DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
I CONTACTED TOYOTA AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE FLOOR MATS WITH THEIR TOYOTA CAMRY VEHICLES. I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY (USED) IN JANUARY OF 2007. WHEN I EXPLAINED TO THE REPRESENTATIVE AT TOYOTA THAT MY FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE MOVES INVOLUNTARILY UNDER BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL, HE ASKED ME IF I HAD THE MAT ANCHORED CORRECTLY. I EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS NO ANCHOR IN THE CARPETING OR A HOLE WHERE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN ONE. I FURTHER ADVISED THERE WAS NO HOLE IN THE MAT FOR AN ANCHOR. THE REP SOUNDED SURPRISED AT THIS AND TOOK DOWN MY INFORMATION. THE REP TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HEAR BACK FROM TOYOTA AND TO REMOVE MY MATS AT THIS TIME DUE TO THE RECENT SAFETY ISSUES. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM TOYOTA AND THERE HAS BEEN NO UPDATE ON THIS SITE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MISSING MAT ANCHORS ON THE CARPETS. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT GETS TANGLED WHENEVER IT IS PULLED OUT IN ORDER TO BUCKLE WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE, BUT ONLY THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. YOU THEN HAVE TO MOVE THE ADJUSTABLE SLIDE FOR THE SEAT BELT ON THE SIDE OF THE CAR UP AND DOWN REPEATEDLY IN ORDER TO GET THE SEAT BELT UNTANGLED IN ORDER TO USE IT PROPERLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN JANUARY OF 2007. *TR
MY 2006 CAMRY RANAWAY ON RT 290 WEST WHEN IT WAS A FEW MONTHS OLD FOLLOWING THE REPLACEMENT OF AN OXYSENDOR AND INSTALLATION OF TOYOTA FLOOR MATS. I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AS IT ENTERED THE HIGHWAY AND THUS I REARENDED A SEMI WHO NEVER EVEN KNEW THAT I HIT HIM. YET, GREATER THAN 2000.00 OF DAMAGE HAPPENED TO MY AUTO. I HAVE PAID NEARLY 3000.00 IN PENALTIES FOR AN ACCIDENT WHICH I HAD NO CONTROL OVER. FROM THENCE, I WAS TOLD TO PUT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL WHEN I STOPPED AT LIGHTS ETC. IT TRIED TO RUNAWAY AT LEAST 20 TIMES SPORADICALLY.. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERS WHO TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I TRIED TO FILE A LEMON LAW. IT WAS 3 YRS OF DRIVING IN ?!@#$% NEVER KNOWING WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT. I HAVE WITNESSES. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT MOST OF THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE THE HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE CONTACT STATED THE HE HAD FOUR MINOR CRASHES DUE TO THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING. IN THE LATEST INCIDENT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ACROSS A FIVE LANE HIGHWAY AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE DRY, AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THE VEHICLE'S SPEED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED, AND TAKEN IN AN AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BURNS FROM THE SEAT BELTS. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY . THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AT ABOUT 25 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE ABOUT A TWENYTH OF A MILE BEFORE SLOWING DOWN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. THE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE OCCURS ON MORNINGS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FALLS JUST BELOW 50 DEGREES F. WHEN THE NEEDS ARISES TO USE THE HORN THE SOUND IT MAKES IS AS IF THE HORN IS STICKING AND CAN NOT SOUND T6HE PROPER TONE AND VOLUME OF THE HORN. ONCE THE HORN IS USED AND THIS OCCURS THE HORN WORKS PROPERLY UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW 50 DEGREES F. I HAVE RECORDED THIS OCCURRENCE ON A VOICE RECORDER BUT THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO ACCEPT IT AS PROOF. NO REPAIR WORK HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED AS THE DEALER STATES THEY MUST REPLICATE THE ISSUE BEFORE THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED TO ME THAT IT IS TOOTSIE POLICY THAT IF WARRANTY WORK IS PERFORMED AND THE PART IS DEEMED NOT DEFECTIVE BY TOYOTA, THE DEALERSHIP MUST ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIR AND PARTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE HORN IS NOT FUNCTIONING AT PROPER DB LEVELS THAT IT WAS MANUFACTURED FOR. THIS COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF THE HORN DECIDES NOT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY WHEN NEEDED IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE ENTERING THE GARAGE AT 3 MPH HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT INTENTION. CONSEQUENTLY, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE WALL AND THEN INTO THE KITCHEN. THERE WERE DAMAGES TO THE CABINETS, DISHWASHER, STOVE AND REFRIGERATOR. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WITH SEVERE DAMAGES. AN IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
