DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VISIBILITY OF THE WINDSHIELD IS DISTORTED. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE CONTACT IS UNABLE TO FOCUS THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WITHOUT BECOMING DIZZY AND LIGHT HEADED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THERE WERE NO DEFECTS IN THE WINDSHIELD.
1) NO EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE NOTICED 2) WAS BACKING UP IN A WAL MART PARKING LOT AFTER SHOPPING - STARTED THE CAR, PLACED FOOT ON BREAK, SHIFTED VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, GRADUALLY LIFTED FOOT OFF BREAK AS NORMAL TO BACK OUT AND CAR ENGINE SURGED TO HIGH SPEED DRIVING VEHICLE INTO PARKED BEHIND. LUCKILY NO PERSON WAS INJURED ONLY 3 CAR PROPERTY DAMAGE. 3) NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AS OF YET TOYOTA HAS BE CONTACTED INVESTIGATION TO BE SCHEDULED IN NEXT MONTH. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE USING THE HEATER, THE HEAT SYSTEM RELEASED AN UNIDENTIFIED ODOR. AS A RESULT OF THE ODOR, ALL PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THROAT, NOSE AND BRONCHIAL TUBES ITCHING AND BURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AND ASKED THAT THE VEHICLE BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. UPDATED 03/09/06
MY 2006 AUTOMATIC CAMRY SHIFT LEVER WILL DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HIT THE SHIFT LEVER WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED (65 MPH) BY ACCIDENT AND THE LEVER WENT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. MY ENGINE REVS WERE ALARMING. WORRIED ABOUT BLOWING MY ENGINE. I QUICKLY PUT MY CAR BACK INTO DRIVE (D) AND CONTINUED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I WAS CONCERNED THAT MY CAR WOULD SLOW DOWN AND I WOULD BE REAR ENDED. WITH THE TAILGATING TREND OF TODAY'S DRIVERS THIS IS A GRAVE CONCERN TO ME. HAS THERE BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ? I FEEL THAT THE LOCK TO CHANGE FROM PARK TO DRIVE SHOULD WORK IN ALL POSITIONS SO THIS EVENT WILL NOT ACCURE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. *JB
STEERING WHEEL PULLS LEFT AND RIGHT, MORE FREQUENT ON FREEWAY ESPECIALLY GOING AROUND CURVES AND HAVE TO HOLD WHEEL FIRMLY. PULLS SOMETIMES WHEN BRAKING AND DRIVING OVER SMALL BUMPS. STEERING WHEEL IS STIFF AT TIMES WHEN MAKING SHARP TURNS IN TIGHT SPACES AS IF THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. CAR WOBBLES TOO MUCH WHEN GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS. 8JB
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). I PURCHASE A 2006 CAMRY IN DEC. 2005. WITHIN WEEKS THE OXYGEN SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. JAN 2006 AS I ENTERED 290W IN NORTHBORO MA THE CAR ACCELERATED FROM 10MPH TO 80 +MPH WITHOUT WARNING. AS TRAFFIC WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER THE CAR SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF A SEMI TRAILER. WHEN THE CAR WAS REPAIRED OF COURSE I WAS TOLD I HAD STEPPED ON THE GAS NOT THE BRAKE. THIS WAS NOT TRUE!!! HOWEVER, HAVING NO OTHER EXPLANATION I ACCEPTED THE CAUSE. HOWEVER, AS MANY AS 2 DOZEN TIMES THE CAR ACCELERATED WHEN PARKING INTO A SPOT. I HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL IF THIS EVER HAPPENED AGAIN, AND I DID. I DROVE THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS, TOOK IT TO DEALERS, TRIED TO FILE A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE FINALLY TRADED IN THE AUTO AND WANT TO RECOUP MY $4000.00 OF DEDUCTIBLES AND SURCHARGES THAT I PAID FOR NO FAULT OF MINE. HOW DO I DO THIS. [XXX] *TR
I TERMINATED A LEASE ON A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY ON FEB. 28. I ONLY DROVE IT FROM NOV. 1 TO JAN. 9 WHEN FOR THE THIRD TIME IN THOSE TWO MONTHS IT SURGED AHEAD WHEN I WAS PARKING. THE SURGE WAS SO POWERFUL, THAT THE CAR FLEW THRU THE AIR AND DAMAGED ANOTHER CAR IN THE PARKING LOT. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR SUFFERED $6000 WORTH OF DAMAGES. I CONTACTED THE DEALER TO SAY I WOULD HAVE THE DAMAGED CAR TOWED TO THEIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THE BODY HAD TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE THEY WOULD CHECK TO SEE WHY IT MALFUNCTIONED. I WAS TOLD THAT A REGIONAL ENGINEER FROM TOYOTA WOULD INSPECT THE CAR. I HAD GREAT HOPES THAT THEY WOULD FIND THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT BUT THE REPORT SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. OF COURSE THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WHEN THE CAR WILL NOT STOP BUT RATHER SURGES AHEAD WHEN YOU ARE BRAKING. THEY IMPLIED THAT AFTER 45 YEARS OF ACCIDENT FREE DRIVING , I PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE. I TERMINATED THE LEASE. BUT I AM VERY FEARFUL AND VERY PERPLEXED THAT TOYOTA IS UNCONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CARS. TOYOTA MUST ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM---IT IS VERY WRONG TO IGNORE THIS SAFETY HAZARD. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT ABOUT A CAR I NO LONGER HAVE BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN SOLD TO AN UNSUSPECTING PERSON. THE NEW OWNER WAS NOT TOLD OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SEAT HEADRESTS RESTRICT VISIBILITY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE BECAUSE THAT IS HOW THE SEAT WAS DESIGNED. THE PURCHASE DATE AND A VALID VIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 25,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. HE PURCHASED A NEW CAR AND IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO AT THE TIME BECAUSE THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO GO THROUGH ARBITRATION. A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE DESIGN. THE FIRST REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT IF THE BRAKES AND THE GAS PEDAL ARE DEPRESSED AT THE SAME TIME, THE BRAKES WILL FAIL. HE HAS PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND THE MODEL, AND THE BRAKE FAILURE IS IDENTICAL. WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED THE ENGINE IDLED TO 3000+. THE REPRESENTATIVE ALSO ADVISED HIM TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND THAT SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8200. THE ENGINE SIZE AND FULL ADDRESS OF THE DEALER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONSUMER STATED HE JUST WANTS OTHER CONSUMERS TO BE AWARE OF THE DEFECTS WITH THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED REPAIR INVOICES. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD IF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL WERE APPLIED AT HTE SAME TIME, THEN THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. UPDATED 08/07/07 *TR
NO CRASH. WE HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN LATE 2005 ABOUT ITS SUDDEN SURGE OF ACCELERATION. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE CONSTANTLY COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA DEALERS REGARDING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON MY 2006 TOYOTA. IT TAKES THE CAR A LONGER TIME TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES ARE SKIPPING. IT CAN HAPPEN ON DRY OR WET SURFACES, ON HILLS OR ON FLAT SURFACES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE BRAKES ARE GOOD, THAT THE ABS ON MY CAR ARE NORMAL AND ONE TOYOTA DEALER REPAIR TECHNICIAN SAID HE DID NOT LIKE THE ABS EITHER. NO INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED, HOWEVER, THE CAR IS MAKING ME MORE NERVOUS AS THE CONTINUOUS REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTA CAR POUR IN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY SOFT AND SIMILAR TO STEPPING ON A SPONGE. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE IN THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL HAS TO BE DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE TOYOTA DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. THE DEALER LATER REPAIRED THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR FREE SO THAT THERE WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE RESISTANCE. THE DEFOGGER WIRES IN THE REAR WINDOW REFLECT HEADLIGHTS AND GLARE FROM BEHIND THE VEHICLE. IT CREATES A PRISM EFFECT, WITH 10-12 LINES SHOWING BOTH ABOVE AND BELOW EACH AND EVERY HEADLIGHT OR BRIGHT LIGHT SOURCE BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE IMAGE YOU SEE IN YOUR REAR-VIEW MIRROR IS FALSE, MISLEADING AND DISTRACTING. CHANGING TINT AND/OR MIRROR DOES NOT AFFECT THE PROBLEM. THE REAR WINDOWS NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT DESIGN THAT INCLUDES DEFOGGER WIRES THAT HAVE A NON-REFLECTIVE SURFACE. *JB
2006 TOYOTA CAMRY AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA AVALON AND EACH TIME YOU ACCELERATE ON THE GAS A SULFUR SMELL EMITS FROM THE CAR INTO THE CABIN. HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT BRANDS OF GAS WITH NO LUCK. DEALERSHIP KEEPS TELLING ME IT IS JUST THE GAS IN KENTUCKY AND THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH CAR BUT I KNOW SEVERAL OTHER AVALON OWNERS THAT HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT ONLY OCCURS ON SOME CARS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE THERE WAS A VERY HIGH IDLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. AFTER THE INITIAL REVVING, THE IDLE WOULD REDUCE TO A SLOWER PACE. THIS WAS COMPUTERIZED AND COULD NOT BE MANUALLY REDUCED. ALSO, WHEN PULLING OUT THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND SUDDENLY LURCH FORWARD. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THROTTLE LAG AT LOW SPEED AND FROM STOP IS INCONSISTENT AND HAS BEEN THE CAUSE FOR SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED; DEALER INVESTIGATED; STATES THIS IS NORMAL AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE, THAT LAG IS "ACCEPTABLE". SOME INSTANCES HAVE BEEN SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE ACTUAL THROTTLE RESPONSE. DRIVER HAS TO USE HARDER ACCELERATION TO COMPENSATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF BUT DECLINES TO ADMIT IT IS A PROBLEM. DRIVER IS VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS ISSUE WILL BE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT. *JB
2006 TOYOTA SOLARA DEVELOPED VARIOUS PROBLEMS.*MR THE CONSUMER RENTED THE VEHICLE WHEN HE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD REST WHICH PROTRUDED FROM THE BACK SEAT RESTRICTING THE ALREADY TINY REAR WINDOW. WHEN BACKING FROM ANY PARKING SPACE, WITH THE TOP UP, T HE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SEE PEDESTRIANS . THE VEHICLE HAD A 4-8 SECOND DELAY WHEN AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO A HIGHER GEAR. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BECAME STUCK. THE LCD GAUGES CAN'T BE SEEN WHEN DRIVING IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT.*JB

2006 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH A STUCK ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK FOR THE FOURTH TIME WITHIN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. THE LAST TIME, THE CONSUMER ALMOST CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL WHILE BACKING DOWN A HILL TOWARDS A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. CONSUMER SENDS A FORMAL REQUEST TO RECALIBRATE OR PRE-PROGRAM THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE COMPUTER, SO THAT IN THE EVENT OF ANY SUDDEN ACCELERATION, THE APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL INSTANTLY AND AUTOMATICALLY OVERRIDE AND CANCEL THE EXCESS ACCELERATION. *TGW UPDATED 05/28/10.*JB
2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE RIDING WITH HER HUSBAND, A NOISE WAS HEARD THAT SOUNDED LIKE A CLICK; SIMILAR TO THE SOUND OF SWITCHING ON A LIGHT THAT SEEMED TO TRIGGER THE UNWANTED ACCELERATION THAT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED. HER HUSBAND REACTED VERY QUICKLY TO GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. HE HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH HAD NO EFFECT ON STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER THEN PUT THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE LAST EFFORT WAS TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. THAT, ALONG WITH AN UPHILL GRADE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITH A RATCHETING SOUND WHICH WAS BELIEVED TO BE THE RESULT OF THE TRANSMISSION ALREADY IN PARK. *JB UPDATED 10/20/11.*JB
