DRIVER'S SUN VISOR STOPPED WORKING AND BECAME INCREASINGLY WORSE, AND TOYOTA WANTED AN ARM AND A LEG TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER THAT WON'T LAST ANY LONGER. WHEN I HEARD THE PRICE TO REPLACE A SUN VISOR, I FELT LIKE IT WAS A SCAM TO RAISE REVENUE. NOW, THE DROOPY VISOR SIGNIFICANTLY IMPAIRS VISIBILITY, AND TOYOTA SUPPOSEDLY HAS A RECALL, BUT MY DEALER IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT MY VEHICLE IS INCLUDED. HAD TO CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE, WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT MY VEHICLE IS INCLUDED, BUT THEY ARE DEFERRING BACK TO MY DEALER AND WHO KNOWS WHEN THEY'LL CONTACT ME. MEANWHILE I HAVE TO HUNCH DOWN TO DRIVE IN ORDER TO SEE. TRYING TO LIMIT DRIVING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I THINK THIS IS THE FOURTH RECALL THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD. I'VE NEVER OWNED A CAR WITH SO MANY PROBLEMS. AND THE LIGHT IN THE TRUNK NO LONGER WORKS EITHER. *TR
THE AREA ON THE FRONT PART OF THE DASHBOARD (NEXT TO THE WINDSHIELD) HAS BECOME STICKY AND SHINY. IT IS TACKY TO THE TOUCH AND EASILY GOUGES. IT CREATES A GLARE FOR THE DRIVER THAT CAN IMPAIR HIS ABILITY TO DRIVE. WE HAVE TRIED WASHING THE AREA AND IT DOES NOT IMPROVE THE CONDITION! IT IS DANGEROUS AND UNSIGHTLY! *TR
DASHBOARD IS DETERIORATING/DISINTEGRATING....VERY STICKY TO TOUCH AND HAS CONSISTENCY OF MODELING CLAY. A "SHINE" IS DEVELOPING ON THE DASHBOARD AND REFLECTING TO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD----VERY DANGEROUS/VERY DISTRACTING! *TR
I HAVE A GEN6 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH A DASH THAT HAS BEEN GETTING STICKY AND SEEMS TO BE MELTING. THIS HAS BEEN SLOWLY GETTING WORSE OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN CLEANED WITH CHEMICALS OTHER THAN SOAP AND WATER. THE DASH CLOSEST TO THE WINDOW HAS BECOME 'GLOSSY' TO THE POINT OF CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES AND REFLECTION OF EXTERIOR LIGHTING. I HAVE SEARCHED THE WEB EXTENSIVELY AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO 'ONE' ANSWER. SOME DEALERS ARE REPLACING DASH, SOME ARE OFFERING TO COVER MATERIALS AND SOME ONLY OFFERING 10-20% DISCOUNTS. CAN YOU CONTACT ME OR REFER ME TO THE PROPER DEPARTMENT TO SUBMIT A CLAIM FOR A REPLACEMENT. AS THIS IS CLEARLY A TOYOTA 'PRODUCT RELATED' PROBLEM, I WOULD EXPECT THAT TOYOTA WOULD HAVE A RESOLUTION TO FIX/REPLACE THE DASH AS NEEDED. *TR
DUE TO FAULTY ENGINEERING DESIGN THE CAR IS BURNING EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL AND HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT COVERS THE CAR UP TO 60,000 MILES ONLY. THE ENGINE CAN FAIL AT ANY TIME DUE TO LACK OF ENGINE OIL AND THE CATALITIC CONVERTER WILL CLOG UP AND BE PUTTING OUT EXCESSIVE EXHAUST FUMES TO THE ENVIRONMENT. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND NOW HAS 149,000 MILES ON IT AND IT BURNS MORE THEN 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1200 MILES AND ITS GETTING WORSE EVERY DAY ITS DRIVEN. I KNOW IT IS SELF DESTRUCTING. TOYOTA ADMITS THE ENGINE PISTONS WERE NOT DESIGNED PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING HOTTER WEATHER, THE DASHBOARD WOULD BECOME SOFT AND STICKY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO COVER THE DASHBOARD WITH A SUNSHIELD TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 WAS AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,599.
DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND MELTING, WAS TOLD BY CLEARWATER TOYOTA THAT IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
THE DASH OF MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA BEGAN TO MELT AND CRACK IN 2012, CREATING AN EXTREMELY STICKY SURFACE AS WELL AS A SEVERE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE STICKINESS AND GLARE WORSEN WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES WHICH IS A CRITICAL ISSUE WHEN LIVING IN FLORIDA. EVEN WHEN I TRAVEL TO NORTHERN STATES IN THE WINTER, THE STICKINESS AND SEVERE GLARE DOES NOT COMPLETELY GO AWAY IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES. I CAN GENTLY TOUCH MY DASH AND LEAVE A FINGER IMPRINT AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR AND IN ANY TEMPERATURE. THE GLARE GREATLY REDUCES THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR HOWEVER, DURING THE HOTTEST MONTHS OF THE YEAR THE GLARE IS SO SEVERE THAT IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHAT IS AHEAD. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN IN ACCIDENTS AND HAVE COME CLOSE TO HITTING PEDESTRIANS IN PARKING LOTS BECAUSE OF THE SEVERE GLARE. I HAVE RESORTED TO "BOBBING AND WEAVING" TO FIND AN AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD I CAN SEE THROUGH (TYPICALLY A ONE-INCH AREA WHERE THE AIR VENT IS REFLECTING VERY LOW ON THE WINDSHIELD) OR EVEN ROLLING DOWN THE SIDE WINDOW TO STICK MY HEAD OUT DURING SITUATIONS SUCH AS THESE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT THIS WILL CONTINUE TO WORSEN WITH TIME. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY! THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS! *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BY APPLYING THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND EVERY LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,822.
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. ATTORNEY WRITES ON BEHALF OF CLIENT IN REGARDS TO NHTSA'S TOYOTA INVESTIGATIONS AND CONSUMER'S VEHICLE BURSTING INTO FLAMES *TGW SMOKE BEGAN TO EMANATE FROM THE LEFT FRONT DRIVER'S-SIDE DOOR; THEN FLAMES BURST FROM THE DOOR. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DRIVER'S HUSBAND TOOK A CLOTH FROM THE TRUNK AND TRIED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES, AND SUFFERED A SMALL BURN. *JB
ON 12/26/11, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ALONG WITH THREE PASSENGERS AND BEGAN TO SEE BLACK SMOKE THROUGHOUT THE CAR. I DETERMINED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE MASTER CONTROL PANEL ON THE DOOR. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE SMOKE IMMEDIATELY TURNED INTO FLAMES, WHICH CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY AND COMPLETE PANIC. LUCKILY, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD ALL PASSENGERS IMMEDIATELY EXIT THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE FLAMES CAUGHT THE LEFT SIDE OF MY ARM AND STARTED TO BURN MY COAT. DURING THIS ORDEAL, I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW IMMEDIATELY DROPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE THE FLAMES QUICKLY INCREASED AND BEGAN SHOOTING INTO THE AIR UNCONTROLLABLY. ON INSTINCT, I DECIDED TO LEAVE THE CAR DOOR OPEN FACING THE STREET AS I WAS FEARFUL TO CLOSE THE DOOR, WHICH WOULD FURTHER EXACERBATE THE FIRE. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE A PIECE OF CLOTHING FROM THE TRUNK OF THE CAR AND USED IT TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WHILE SUSTAINING A BURN ON HIS HAND. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AS THEY DISPATCHED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO THE SCENE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND INDICATED THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. OVERALL, IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE FOR MYSELF AND FAMILY MEMBERS AS I STRONGLY FEEL THAT NO ONE HAS A CLEAR EXPLANATION AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AND FAILS TO ENSURE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AND WELL BEING. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AGENT, THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE INCIDENT IN DETAIL ALONG WITH FILING A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AND FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE TAKEN. THIS INCIDENT FORTUNATELY DID NOT LEAD TO ANY SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURIES, HOWEVER THE EMOTIONAL TRAUMA AND DISTRESS CAUSED BY THE ORDEAL IS LONG-LASTING. *TR UPDATED 07/24/12
MY VEHICLE IS BURNING THROUGH ENGINE OIL FASTER THAN NORMAL, I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO TWO TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS, THE FIRST ONE DENIED FIXING MY VEHICLE DUE TO A FEMALE SUPERVISOR SAYING THAT THEY WONT FIX A SALVAGED CAR, SHE THEN ALERTED THE SURROUNDING DEALERSHIP'S TELLING THEM NOT TO FIX MY CAR. THE DEALERSHIP IS THE ONE IN SAN BERNARDINO CALIFORNIA, I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO REDLANDS CALIFORNIA TO SEE IF THAT DEALERSHIP COULD FIX MY CAR AND THEY SAID THAT IT SHOWED IN THEIR SYSTEM THAT MY CAR SHOULDN'T BE FIXED.

AT MULTIPLE REGULAR SERVICE APPOINTMENTS AT THE TOYOTA DEALER, I REPORTED UNUSUAL NOISES AND A PULSING SENSATION THAT APPEARED TO COME FROM THE BRAKES. THE SERVICE PEOPLE WERE NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY ANY ISSUES. AT 77000 MILES, THE DEALER CHARGED $400 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. AFTER REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED -- AT APPROXIMATELY $2400. OF COURSE, THEY ALSO WANTED TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND WATER PUMP FOR ANOTHER $700. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT (NON-DEALER) MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE NEED TO REPLACE THE ABS ACTUATOR. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT THE PART COSTS SO MUCH BECAUSE IT IS SPECIFIC TO THE HYBRID VEHICLES (AS OPPOSED TO NON-HYBRID CAMRYS) -- USED PARTS ARE NOT MUCH CHEAPER AS THEY ARE HARDER TO FIND. A MAJOR FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS OF GREAT CONCERN. THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY LESS RESPONSIVE. IT IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE SAME COMPONENT OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM FOR THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE, YET TOYOTA IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR CORRECTING THIS. SEAT BELT FAILURE!!! GOT IN THE CAR AND TRIED TO PUT ON SEAT BELT AND IT WILL NOT RETRACT FAR ENOUGH TO CONNECT. *TR
MINUTES AFTER LEAVING HOME WHILE TRAVELING 10 MPH IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED - BRAKE, VSC, TIRE, ETC. THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION, THE STEERING BECAME "GUMMY", AND THE BRAKES BECAME "MUSHY". IT TOOK CONSTANT, COMPLETE DEPRESSION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE CAR OVER A LENGTH OF ABOUT 25 FEET. I TOOK THE CAR TO 355 TOYOTA IN ROCKVILLE, MD WHERE IT WAS HOOKED TO A COMPUTER, BUT NO PROBLEM WAS DETECTED. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED A SECOND AND THIRD TIME, ONCE MINUTES AFTER STARTUP AND ONCE WHILE TRAVELING AT 30 MPH NOT FAR FROM MY DESTINATION, THANKFULLY. AFTER PARKING THE CAR FOR 2 HOURS, THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY. THE FOURTH TIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED, I HAD JUST LEFT THE CAPITAL BELTWAY AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BRAKING IN ORDER TO SAFELY ROUND A CLOVERLEAF ONTO RIVER ROAD. THE BRAKES WERE BARELY RESPONSIVE, AND I NARROWLY MISSED CRASHING INTO THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO 355 TOYOTA ON DECEMBER 27. THE CAR WAS KEPT FOR 24 HOURS. THE MECHANICS COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST TIME A PROBLEM SUCH AS MINE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO 355 TOYOTA. A GOOGLE QUERY PROVED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS MORE PERVASIVE THAN THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS OR IS WILLING TO ADMIT KNOWING. *TR UPDATED 7/31/13 *CN THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED ANOTHER EPISODE AND THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE DEALER, WHERE THE TECH EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM HIMSELF. THE TECHNICIAN ADDED BRAKE FLUID. SINCE THE BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED, THE VEHICLE HAS PERFORMED PERFECTLY.
I WANTED TO PASS ALONG THIS FIX AS THE TSB SEEM NOT TO HAVE A SOLUTION . I HAVE FILED THIS UNDER ELECTRICAL AS THIS IS THE COMMON SYMPTOMS (DASH GAUGES JUMP) ; HOWEVER THE FAILURE IS IN THE BRAKES (ABS DISTRIBUTION). I FIRST NOTICED MY DASH GAUGES (TEMP, TACH, SPEEDOMETER, AND TRANSMISSION SELECTION) WERE JUMPY OR NON OPERATIVE. IT RESEMBLED A LOW BATTERY PROBLEM. THE DEALER 1ST SUGGESTED I REPLACE BATTERY--STILL HAS PROBLEM, THEN THEY STATED THEY FOUND LOOSE WIRE UNDER DASH--STILL HAD PROBLEM, FINALLY (AFTER I EXPLAINED THERE WERE MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS OF OTHERS WITH REMEDIES THAT DID NOT WORK) THEY ADVISED TOYOTA HAD A TSB FOR THE ABS DISTRIBUTION THAT WOULD CAUSE DASH GAUGES TO WORK ERRATICALLY. PART WAS REPLACED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. CAR SEEMS FINE...A PLUS, CAR NO LONGER FEELS LIKE BRAKES ARE DRAGGING WHEN LETTING OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE FAILURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 57,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR FELL DOWN AND BLOCKED HER FIELD OF VISION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WAS REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY FOR THE VISOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 08/07/12*LJ
THIS IS FOR CAMRY 07, 4 CYL. THE CAR ALWAYS GETS SERVICED AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AT 5000 INTERVALS (PER THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS). I NOTICED BEFORE THE DUE MILEAGE (5000 MILES) WHEN SUDDEN BRAKING, THE OIL LIGHT WOULD COME ON. WHEN CHECKING THE DIPSTICK IT IS ALMOST EMPTY. SO THE DEALER RECOMMENDS DOING 500 TO 1000 MILES OIL CHECKS AND IT IS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL. AFTER SEARCHING I FOUND THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE BLOCK BUT TOYOTA DENIES IT. I DID CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY MENTIONED IT IS OK FOR THE ENGINE TO CONSUME OIL!!! THIS IS OF COURSE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND SECONDLY BURNING OIL WOULD MAKE MORE POLLUTION. *TR
DURING THE LAST 2 OR 3 OIL CHANGES THE SHOP I WAS AT NOTED THAT THE CAR WAS LOW ON OIL WHEN IT CAME IT. I'VE ALWAYS MADE SURE THEY FILLED IT TO THE TOP AND WHILE CHECKING IT RECENTLY IN BETWEEN CHANGES (2K BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE WAS DUE) THE DIPSTICK WAS ONLY SHOWING OIL AT THE HALFWAY MARKS BETWEEN THE TWO DOTS ON THE STICK. THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS MELTED AND IS VERY STICKY. IT IS EASILY DAMAGED JUST BY LIGHTLY BUMPING IT. ALSO, THE GLARE FROM THE DASHBOARD IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. SINCE I DRIVE TO WORK FACING THE SUN AND DRIVE HOME FACING THE SUN, THE COMMUTE IS VERY DIFFICULT, TIRESOME, AND DANGEROUS. PLEASE ADVISE ME HOW TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM. *TR

AFTER FOUR SEPARATE BRAKE FAILURES AND SUBSEQUENT DELIVERIES OF THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY VALVE IN THE BRAKE ACTUATOR. SYMPTOMS: ACCUMULATOR PUMP RUNNING EVERY 10 TO 15 SECONDS WHEN IT SHOULD RUN ONLY OCCASIONALLY. DEALERSHIP STATES THAT DIAGNOSTICS REVEALED THAT NO BRAKING WAS AVAILABLE TO THE REAR WHEELS AT POINT OF FAILURE. THE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 55,218 MILES. TWO WEEKS SUBSEQUENT TO THE WARRANTY REPAIR, A FIFTH BRAKING FAILURE OCCURRED (OCTOBER 30, 2012). THIS TIME WITH A WARNING TONE (NOT HEARD ON PREVIOUS FAILURES). THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. DEALERSHIP STATES THE NEW ACTUATOR HAD FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY. 23 DAYS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE LAST FAILURE AND THE BRAKES ARE WORKING NORMALLY. IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR (THE SQUARE ALUMINUM MODULE UNDER THE HOOD ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE WITH MANY HYDRAULIC LINES COMING OUT OF IT) IS A WEAK COMPONENT IN THE TOYOTA 2007 CAMRY HV. *TR
ON 11/24/11 I WAS OUT OF TOWN WITH FIVE PEOPLE IN THE CAR (INCLUDING ME). AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WENT OUT ENTIRELY AND I WOUND UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION (THANKFULLY NOBODY WAS COMING ON THE CROSS STREET OR I COULD VERY EASILY HAVE BEEN BROADSIDED). "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD ALONG WITH THE RED BRAKE LIGHT, RED TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION LIGHT, ORANGE INDICATOR LIGHT (EXCLAMATION WITH CIRCLE ((!))), ANTI SKID LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT. I CHECKED THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT BASICALLY SAID THIS WAS RELATED TO THE ABS SYSTEM AND THAT I COULD STILL DRIVE THE CAR, BUT TO BE CAUTIOUS. THE BRAKES WERE VERY LIMITED WHILE THE LIGHTS WERE ON, BUT I WAS CAREFUL AND MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION. WHEN WE LEFT THAT NIGHT THE LIGHTS WERE OFF, BUT I DID EXPERIENCE SAME ISSUE SPORADICALLY THE REST OF THE WEEKEND. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I TOOK THE CAR TO GRAPEVINE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND LEFT IT FOR THREE DAYS. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I DIDN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS, BUT THE NEXT TIME I DID I HAD THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN AND THEN LATER IT WENT OFF AGAIN AND OPERATED FINE. I DID GET A CALL TO RATE MY SERVICE A FEW DAYS AFTER I TOOK IT IN AND I TOLD THEM THE TRUTH, THAT I WAS UNHAPPY BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME AFTER THAT AND SAID HE WOULD RESEARCH WITH TOYOTA TECH SUPPORT TO TRY AND FIND THE CAUSE. I DIDN'T GET ANY POSSIBLE FIXES BACK FROM HIM, BUT I READ SOMEWHERE A BAD BATTERY MIGHT BE THE CAUSE SO I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED ON 2/21/12. THEY SAID BATTERY WAS GOOD, BUT THE ISSUE DID OCCUR WHILE THEY HAD IT AND STILL COULD NOT DETERMINE PROBLEM. IT IS NOW 2/26/12 AND I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN MANY TIMES, SEVERAL IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS AND STILL NO RESOLUTION. *TR

THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED USED FROM A PRIVATE PARTY IN AUGUST 2011. I DID AN OIL CHANGE SOON AFTER, ON 8/21 WITH MILEAGE AT 57,336. ON 11/3 MY WIFE REPORTED THE OIL LIGHT COMING ON WHEN BRAKING. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL, AND THERE WAS JUST A TINY BIT ON THE TIP OF THE DIPSTICK. IT TOOK 3 FULL QUARTS TO BRING IT BACK UP TO FULL ON THE DIPSTICK. MILEAGE WAS 59,820 SO THAT MEANS THAT IN 2,484 MILES, THE ENGINE CONSUMED 3 QUARTS OF OIL. ON 12/18 MY WIFE AGAIN REPORTED THE OIL LIGHT COMING ON WHEN BRAKING. I CHECKED THE OIL AND THE DIPSTICK WAS COMPLETELY DRY. AGAIN, 3 FULL QUARTS TO BRING IT UP TO THE FULL MARK. MILEAGE WAS 61,397 SO THIS TIME 3 QUARTS WERE CONSUMED IN 1577 MILES. ALL OF THIS IN COMPLETELY NORMAL DRIVING. THERE IS NO OIL LEAKING UNDER THE CAR AND THERE IS NO SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE, NOR IS THERE ANY OIL MIXED IN WITH THE COOLANT, SO I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS GOING. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I WILL BE CONTACTING TOYOTA ABOUT THIS TOMORROW. THE MANUAL STATES THAT IT IS NORMAL TO CONSUME A QUART EVERY 600 MILES. THIS IS ALSO RIDICULOUS. TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM, THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. TOYOTA HAS SINCE REDESIGNED THEIR ENGINE BECAUSE IF THIS. WENT TO A REPAIR SHOP THEY SAID MY BRAKES WERE GOOD, AND THAT THE CAR PROBABLY NEEDED TO GET IT CHECK BECAUSE OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM. THIS ONLY HAPPEN DURING THE SUMMER. DURING THE WINTER IT GOES OFF, TO WHICH I STILL FELT LIKE IT WAS A COMPUTER GLITCH. WENT TO THE DEALER RECENTLY AND THEY SAID THAT MY ACCUMULATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. I ASKED HOW DOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS OCCUR. THE MECHANIC STATED SOMEWHERE IN THE LINES OF IT'S A MAN MADE PART SO IT'S CAN HAPPEN FROM TIME TO TIME. BUT IN MY OPINION, IF I DID EVERYTHING LIKE I WAS SUPPOSE TO DO, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. THE TOTAL REPAIR FOR THE PART IS $1892! THAT'S WITH LABOR INCLUDED! EXCESSIVE OIL COMSUMPTION TO THE POINT OF ENGINE FAILURE WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 5000 MILES AND ARE ADDING AT LEAST 4 TO 5 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN CHANGES.
I HAD MY OIL CHANGED ABOUT 5,000 MILES PREVIOUSLY TO A MOMENT WHEN MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON BARELY, AND THEN FLASHED BACK OFF. I DECIDED TO CHECK IT, JUST IN CASE, AND FOUND THAT I WAS TOTALLY WITHOUT OIL. I WENT TO TOYOTA AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAD WAITED LONGER THAN SIX MONTHS TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. I GOT THE OIL CHANGE, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THEY THEN BEGAN AN "OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK" WHERE I BRING THE CAR IN EVERY 1000 MILES TO SEE IF IT HAS CONSUMED TOO MUCH OIL. AT THIS POINT IN MY OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK, AFTER ABOUT 3000 MILES, I'VE BURNED ABOUT 1.5 QUARTS OIL, ACCORDING TO THEM. THE CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 45K ON IT, AND I SAY IT SHOULDN'T BE BURNING SO MUCH OIL. THE CAR ALSO DOESN'T START AS RESPONSIVELY AS IT OUGHT TO. THE OIL ALSO LOOKS VERY DIRTY. TOYOTA CONTINUES TO TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL, BUT MANY CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES I'VE NOTICED IN ONLINE FORUMS, ETC., AND I SUSPECT TOYOTA IS AVOIDING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN ENGINE PROBLEM. *TR
ON 10/21/11 AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT ALL 4 STRUTS WERE LEAKING AND TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. ON 10/29/11 THE DEALER INSPECTED IT AND STATED THAT THERE WAS "RESIDUE" WHICH IS NORMAL AND NO REPAIR WAS NEEDED AT THIS TIME. THE DEALER DID NOT STATE THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ONLY THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE SOME LEAKAGE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT IT IS NOT NORMAL TO BE LEAKING AND IT SHOULD NOT BE LEAKING AT 36,000 MILES. SEVERAL TIMES THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE STRUTS WERE LEAKING. THE LAST TIME ON 9/27/13 HE SAID THE LEAKAGE WAS PAST THE PERCH. SO I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2013. THEY ADMITTED THAT THE STRUTS ARE NOW LEAKING. HOWEVER BOTH THE DEALER AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY PACKAGE. IF THEY HAD STARTED LEAKING DURING THE NORMAL WARRANTY PERIOD OF 3 YEARS/36,000 MILES, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. AGAIN, IN 2011, THEY NEVER STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, JUST THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE "RESIDUE". I WILL PROBABLY HAVE THE STRUTS REPLACED AT THE DEALER IN CASE THERE IS SOME FUTURE RESOLUTION/REIMBURSEMENT OFFERED ON THIS ISSUE. I DON'T WANT TO KEEP DRIVING THE CAR WITH LEAKING STRUTS. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT WAS VERY SHINY AND THE DASH WOULD BE REFLECTED IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. YOU WERE UNABLE TO SEE CLEARLY THROUGH THE WINDOW. IT'S HAPPENED EVERY OCTOBER WHEN I RETURN TO FLORIDA, TOYOTA WOULDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT WAS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY OR EVEN A PROBLEM. I HAVE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION 1QT EVERY 1000MLS. *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE A MINIVAN MADE A U-TURN IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAS HEADING STRAIGHT. MY VEHICLE HIT THE OTHER VEHICLES PASSENGERS SIDE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE TIRE UPWARDS TO THE TIP OF HIS FRONT BUMPER AND MY CAR WAS DAMAGED ON THE IMPACT OF THE VEHICLE FROM MY DRIVERS SIDE BUMPER I THEN REARED OFF THE ROAD TO A DITCH AFTER IMPACT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE WHERE I HEADED DOWNWARDS INTO ROCKS AND TREES. THE CAR WAS TOTALED, AND EVERYTHING INSIDE THE HOOD WAS FORCED FORWARD, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BEYOND REPAIR. THE BODY FRAME COULD NOT BE REPAIRED AND NOT ONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. CAR ONLY HAS APPROX 43,000 MILES AND I AM ALREADY HAVING THIS PROBLEM!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SUNVISOR WILL NOT REMAIN IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION AND CONTINUED TO FALL, OBSTRUCTING THE CONTACT'S VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE SUNVISOR WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
