THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLAPPED DOWN WITHOUT BEING MANUALLY RELEASED. THE VISOR NO LONGER LOCKS INTO PLACE AND RELEASES RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DRIVING HAZARD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR DETACHED FROM ITS HOUSING AND OBSTRUCTED THE CONTACTS VIEW OF THE ROADWAY WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000.
STARTED HEARING NOISE FOR REAR OF VEHICLE. AT 58,000 IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM AS THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AND THE VEHICLE JUST DID NOT HANDLE/DRIVE PROPERLY. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAVE ALL WORK DONE IN PAST. THEY ADVISED THE REAR TIRES WERE CUPPING, AND THAT ALL FOUR OF THE VEHICLES STRUTS WERE LEAKING TO THE POINT THEY MUST BE REPLACED. I HAVE NEVER EVER HAD TO REPLACE A STRUT ON A NEWER VEHICLE NO LESS ALL FOUR OF THEM. I BELIEVE THAT THERE HAS TO HAVE BEEN A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THESE STRUTS FOR ALL FOUR TO FAIL AROUND THE 50,000 MILE RANGE. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS COULD LEAD TO A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY THE NHTSA. *TT
DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND SHRINKING, SOME OF THE BUTTONS LIKE MIRRORS ARE GETTING DEEP INSIDE IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH WITH THE FINGERS AS USUAL, IT IS CRACKING AND STICKY, YOU CAN SEE CRACKS AND GROVES AROUND, IT PICKS UP ALL DUST AND ANYTHING THAT GETS TO THE DASHBOARD. I TOOK THE CAR TO SERVICE FEW TIMES BUT THEY NEVER TALK ABOUT THE ISSUE, EVEN WHEN IT WAS HAPPENING IN MY CAR. *JS
I PURCHASED THIS 2007 CAR NEW IN LATE 2006. AFTER ABOUT 5 YEARS, THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO GET SHINY AND VERY STICKY. IT APPEARED TO BE MELTING. IF YOU TOUCH IT, IT IS STICKY AND CAN EASILY BE GOUGED. NO AMOUNT OF CLEANING IS ABLE TO RESOLVE THE SHINY, STICKY MESS. DURING THE DAY, THE DASHBOARD HAS SO MUCH GLARE THAT IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD (CAR HAS A GREY INTERIOR WITH A LIGHT GREY DASH) WITHOUT PUTTING A TOWEL OR DARK SWEATSHIRT ON THE DASH TO COVER THE GLARE. I HAVE NEVER USED ANY CHEMICAL PRODUCT ON THE DASH. NO ARMOR ALL OR OTHER PRODUCTS WERE EVER USED. I LIVE IN SOUTHERN GEORGIA JUST NORTH OF THE FLORIDA BORDER NOW. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR, I LIVED IN MASSACHUSETTS. I MOVED TO GEORGIA IN 2008 AND THE PROBLEM STARTED IN 2011-2012. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE GLARE DURING THE DAY SIGNIFICANTLY LIMITING VISIBILITY. TO DATE, TOYOTA DENIES THE PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO ASSIST IN RESOLVING WHAT IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON LINE AND IN VARIOUS INTERNET FORUMS. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE ON MY WIFE WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS ABLE TO TIE THE SUN VISOR UP AS NOT TO OBSTRUCT HER VIEW. I PLAN ON GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THE CAR IS AT 60,000 MILES. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR IS DROPPING DOWN ON MY 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. BOTH THE CLIPS ARE FINE BUT IT JUST QUIT STAYING IN PLACE. IT HAPPENED AROUND 40000 MILE OR AFTER 3 AND 1/4TH YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. I HAVEN'T USED THE VISOR HEAVILY; MY REGULAR COMMUTE IS OPPOSITE OF SUN POSITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND BEFORE SHE COULD PLACE HER FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE BECAME OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR CHEST PAINS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
THE SUN VISOR WAS USED WEEKLY TO BLOCK THE SUN AND USE THE MIRROR. THE FAILURE RECENTLY OCCURRED AND IS NOT RESOLVED. I DID GO TO THE DEALER, WHO WOULD REPAIR FOR ABOUT $140, THAT WAS DECLINED. AT THIS POINT, VELCRO WAS USED TO STABILIZE THE VISOR FOR VEHICLE USE. *TR
FRONT END MAKING RUBBING AND CLICKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE WITH THE WHEEL TURNED; DOES NOT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING FORWARD AND DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN THE WHEELS ARE STRAIGHT. I'VE HAD IT IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. BOTH TIMES THEY SAY THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE PLASTIC WHEEL WELL RUBBING. THE FIRST TIME THEY REPLACED A BOLT AND NOW THEY HAVE REMOVED ONE OF THE COVERS. WHILE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHERE THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE FRONT STRUTS WERE DISCOVERED AS LEAKING. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE STRUTS ARE LEAKING AND THEY AGREED. WHEN ASKED IF THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 50,123 MILES I WAS TOLD "IT IS NOT COMMON, BUT NOT UNHEARD OF." THIS WAS THE EXACT SAME ANSWER I WAS GIVEN FOR MY CRACKED AND LEAKING BATTERY WHICH WAS DISCOVERED THE FIRST TIME I HAD IT IN FOR THE NOISE. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACED THE STRUTS IN A NEW VEHICLE BEFORE...WHY SHOULD TOYOTA CAMRY'S BE ANY DIFFERENT? IT APPEARS THIS IS A DEFECT THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT WANT TO OWN UP TO. WANTS $850 TO REPLACE THE FRONT PARTS ONLY. WHO DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WHILE ROTATING AND BALANCING MY TIRES, WANTS $600 TO REPLACE THE FRONT PARTS ONLY, BUT SUGGESTS THE BACK BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME FOR EVEN WHERE ON ALL FOUR SIDES. I RECENTLY PURCHASE A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SE. SOON AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM TOYOTA OF SANFORD, LOCATED IN NC, I NOTICE MY TIRES WERE CUPPING AND MAKING A LOT OF NOISE. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND THE NOISE STOPPED. JUST RECENTLY I TOOK THE CAR TO MIDAS TO HAVE A BRAKE JOB. WHILE THE MECHANIC HAD THE CAR ON THE LIFT, HE OBSERVED THAT THE REAR STRUTS WERE LEAKING FLUID AND ADVISED ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY OF THESE NEW CAMRYS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. MY CAR ONLY HAS 51000 MILES ON IT AND I THINK THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. I WORK VERY HARD EVERY DAY TO PROVIDE FOR MY FAMILY AND PAY MY BILLS AND FEEL THAT IT IS A SHAME FOR ME TO SPEND TWENTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A VEHICLE THAT STARTS TO FALL APART WITHIN TWO YEARS. PEP BOY REPLACED MY FLAT TIRE WITH FUTURA 2000 LTE TIRE SIZE P215/60TR16 FOR MY CAR IN NOV. 2009. I DROVE ABOUT 15000 MILES BY MAY OF 2011. THE TIRE CRACK OPEN AT SIDEWALL ON THE FREE WAY ON 5/7/2011 . I DID NOT HIT ANY BUMP . NO NAILS ON TIRE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBLE DEFECT OF TIRE. *TR
2008 TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLE. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH REAR DEFROSTER *TGW THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROOF. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN LOOKED OUT THE REAR WINDOW, THE UPPER PORTION OF THE GLASS WAS DISTORTED, WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE BEFORE THE ROOF WAS REPLACED. I PURCHASED BRIDGESTONE TURANZA TIRES FROM TOYOTA IN DECEMBER 2010. TODAY, 4/25/2011, WHILE DRIVING AT 65 OR 70 MPH (NO DEBRIS OR POTHOLES) THE TIRE FAILED AND CAUSED A BLOWOUT. TIRE'S DOT NUMBER: OBX8PM6-3710. 215/60R16 ONLY ABOUT 5000 MILES HAD BEEN DRIVEN SINCE THE TIRE WAS FIRST INSTALLED. WENT TO DEALER AND REPLACED THE TIRE FOR FREE. TOYOTA DID NOT KNOW WHY THE TIRE FAILED, BUT BOTH ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE DEALER DID NOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF PUNCTURE OR ROAD RELATED DAMAGED. THIS IS NOT A TOYOTA ISSUE, BUT I BELIEVE THAT BRIDGESTONE SHOULD DO A RECALL IF ITS TIRES ARE FAILING AFTER ONLY ABOUT 5000 MILES. I HAVE 3 OF THE SAME TIRES PLUS THE REPLACEMENT TURANZA TIRE ON MY CAR WHICH I AM EXTREMELY UNEASY ABOUT NOW. ON APRIL 2011 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT MY TOYOTA SOLARA 2008 STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE MY SPEED WAS 45 MPH AND THE VEHICLE THAT I HIT WAS AT A FULL STOP. THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MELTING ON HOT DAYS RESULTING IN A SHINY, MIRROR LIKE SURFACE THAT REFLECTS SUNLIGHT AND GLARES THE WINDSHIELD REDUCING VISIBILITY. THE MELTED DASHBOARD SURFACE IS VERY STICKY AND COULD AFFECT THE AIRBAG FUNCTIONALITY AS THE AIRBAG COVER COULD FUSE WITH THE SURROUNDING MELTED DASHBOARD SURFACE. I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE AND WAS HANGING IN MY LINE OF VISION WHILE DRIVING. IT WOULD NOT STAY UP AT ALL. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. THEN, A FEW WEEKS LATER THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE AS WELL. I HAVE READ SEVERAL REPORTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND TOYOTA HAS YET TO SEND OUT A RECALL. THE VISORS ARE $80 EACH & THE SERVICE PERSON AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY BREAK DUE TO HEAT AND HIS DEALERSHIP IS MAKING A LOT OF MONEY OFF OF THEM BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME HEAT IN THE SOUTH. I PURCHASED A DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACEMENT VISOR, BUT HAVE NOT REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE ONE BECAUSE THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA AND BECAUSE THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE. *TR
HANKOOK VENTUS V4 ES 215/55/ZR17 INSTALLED ON A 2008 TOYOTA SOLARA SLE CONVERTIBLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES EXHIBITED A LARGE BUBBLE IN SIDEWALL OF TIRE. BEFORE COMPLAINANT WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE TIRE, THE TIRE BLEW OUT AT THE SIDEWALL. *TR
MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID ON CARY PARKWAY IN CARY, NC. I WAS AT THE WHEEL AND COASTING WITH NO FOOT ON THE GAS OR BRAKE AND NOTICED THE ENGINE ACCELERATING SLIGHTLY. IT WAS NOT A SCARY SITUATION BECAUSE THE ROAD WAS OPEN IN FRONT OF ME AND THE SPEED WAS NOT FAST BUT I COULD TELL THE ENGINE WAS NOT COASTING AND SLOWING DOWN AS EXPECTED AND I TOLD MY WIFE. I TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN THE CAR STARTED TO COAST AND SLOW AS EXPECTED. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN AND I KNOW IF I REPORTED IT TO MY DEALER THEY WOULD TELL ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG SO I HAVEN'T BOTHERED. IT FELT LIKE THE THROTTLE WAS MECHANICALLY STUCK. I SHOULD MENTION THAT THIS CAR HAD A DEFECTIVE WELD IN THE RIGHT FRONT AND WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW AND STARTED CREAKING, THE DEALER HAD IT TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP AND A BAD WELD UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER WAS REPAIRED. *TR
BROKEN SUNVISOR IN 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY......OBSTRUCTS VIEW WHEN IT CONSTANTLY DANGLES, ESPECIALLY ON PASSENGER SIDE. THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED....NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE IS BROKEN ONLY 2 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA, BUT NO WORD AS OF YET. THIS CAR HAS ALREADY HAD 3 MAJOR RECALLS, WITH MY CAR BEING DIRECTLY AFFECTED WITH 2 OF THEM. *TR
AT 48000 MILES THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR STARTED FREE ROTATION (UP AND DOWN) AND FREE SWING (SIDE TO SIDE). HAD TO REMOVE VISOR . AT 56600 MILE THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR HAD SAME PROBLEM. VISOR DID NOT STAY IN UP POSITION PLUS IT STARTED MOVING SIDE TO SIDE. HAD TO REMOVE VISOR AT 56600 MILES TO PREVENT ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WIDE SPREAD WITH THE 2008 CAMRY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 75 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES BUT TO NO AVAIL. HE THEN ABRUPTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, DROVE OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. HE THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE RPMS WERE IDLING EXTREMELY HIGHER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FLOOR MAT CLIPS WERE FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. WHILE TURNING THE TOYOTA STEERING WHEEL, I CAN NOTICE A SEVERE CLICKING OR THUMPING SOUND FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. IT APPEARS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION OR THE STRUTS. I TOOK MY TOYOTA TO GET IT CHECK OUT A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THEY INDICATED THE STRUTS WERE LEAKING. ONE STRUT WAS SEVERELY LEAKING SO THEY REPLACED IT. THE OTHER STRUT WAS ALSO LEAKING BUT NOT AS SEVERE SO IT WAS NOT REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE STEERING COLUMN HAS THE AFOREMENTIONED NOISE AND I KNOW, THROUGH INTERNET SEARCHES, THAT MANY OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. IT'S LIKELY A MASS DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE IS SEVERELY INJURED.
