Upon looking to purchase another vehicle I ran the vin on my 2011 Toyota camry and noticed when looking at NHTSA it showed an incident that someone reported under my vin number, So I figured I would try vin # with 0 (zero) instead and nothing came up. So now I'm wondering what's going on with vin #? Is it possible for 2 toyotas to have same vin?

I got my license back last Thursday. I had noticed before I started driving how shiny and sticky the dash area was/is. I was already thinking of having it covered. Since Thursday, twice, I have been driving after dark, and lights reflecting off of the shine of the dash nearly blinded me. Tonight, I almost lost control and ran off the road. I have discoved that this was an issue with several years and models of your vehicles. I am a 53 year old disabled American single woman. I have no help, no money and too much stress. This issue not only adds stress, but has also endangered my health and the health of other motorists. I do not know if you did anything to fix these issues, but obviously, the previous owner did not care about the dangers, I DO.PLEASE contact me ASAP and tell me when and how Toyota will fix this dangerous model defect. I do not want the flaw to cause an accident and I can tell, IT WILL! Calli Atwell [XXX] I just got my liscense back last Thursday. Since I have been driving, twice, headlights reflecting off of the shiny sticky dashboard has nearly blinded me...it is a problem every time a light hits it. Tonight, I nearly lost control and was forced to run off the shoulder, rather than swerve into the other lane! It was scary and dangerous, not just to me, but also to other drivers. Airbag exploded with acid powder affecting eyes and hearing
I rear ended another vehicle and my airbags didn’t deploy bags did not deploy. The impact was hard enough to cause me to hit the steering wheel and I also hurt my hand. The front of my car was completely damaged and the car was considered a total loss. I am in the process of getting a EDR
Premature Ball Joint Wear A loosened ball joint may separate from the knuckle and could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. This recall is from 2014. I barely purchased it not long ago. I have been having the oil from my ball joint driver side wheel spray all over the car randomly. This recall says everything I experience with it. It makes a clicking noise while turning my wheel to the right but a softer clicking noise if turning left.
Passenger sun visor broke years ago. I was able to keep it from falling down by using a large metal clip to hold it up, however it could not be lowered when needed by a passenger. Drivers sun visor broke (would not stay up) yesterday, blocking my view. I understand 2006-2011 camrys were recalled for this problem. However, I was told my vin # was not included. WHY? My car obviously has a visor defect. I was able to pull over and push it to the side, which interferred with my side vision, but was better than holding it up as i drove. Its very dangerous to have a visor fall straight down and block vision with no warning! Millage when passenger sun visor broke was apx.45000 to 50000. I purchased as a certified used car in Oct. 2016 from Sloan Toyota I am only driver and i qualify for low millage state inspections Today i received a quote from Sloan Toyota of $476.00 to fix both visors. Thank you for your help with this issue.

Police case : 2500011609 The failure of the airbags in my Toyota Camry placed both the driver and the minor passenger at significant risk of injury. While the airbags in the Ford vehicle deployed and presumably helped protect its occupants, my passenger was left unprotected, leading to sustained injuries that require ongoing medical treatment. This raises serious concerns about the reliability of Toyota’s airbag system. Collision between Toyota Camry 2011 with a 2005 Black Ford Freestyle. The Ford vehicle's airbags deployed, but the airbags in my Toyota Camry did not deploy, despite the severity of the crash. The airbag system in my Toyota Camry, specifically the airbag sensors and deployment mechanism, failed to activate during the crash. This failure prevented the airbags from deploying, which is critical given the impact severity. The vehicle was totaled due to extensive damage, and the airbag system in my Toyota Camry has not been inspected by the manufacturer yet. However, it should be made available for inspection by Toyota or a qualified independent service center upon request. The failure of the airbags to deploy exposed the driver and the minor passenger to increased risk of injury. The airbags are an essential safety feature meant to reduce injury during moderate to severe collisions, and their failure likely contributed to the severity of the injuries sustained by the passenger. The passenger, a minor, is now attending regular doctor appointments for treatment, indicating the serious nature of the injuries. Not able to perform her summer job and not able to appear in pre enrolled all Swimming events . She is unable to swim or move her body swiftly. Her gripping power is now too less on left hand side. •The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or independent service center to confirm the failure of the airbag system. However, the failure to deploy was immediately noticeable after the accident, and it was clearly documented in the police rep
I started noticing a glare on my 2011 Toyota Camry on the inside on the dashboard. It appeared shiny and I figured I accidentally cleaned it with the wrong product. It started at the closet point of the windshield so I didn’t worry about it. Today (6/4/25) I went to clean it again and noticed the whole dashboard was extremely sticky and NOTHING would clean it off. Paper towels and microfiber towels stuck to it. I noticed the dash was coming apart when I tried to clean it. I called Toyota customer service and they informed me they sent a letter in 2018 about the class action lawsuit and that they were replacing the dashboard. I do not remember ever getting this letter. They woman tried to ask someone higher up about trying to help me since the cut off date was 2021. They said there was nothing they could do due to it not being done in 2021. This is a safety issue due to the glare when driving. I believe this needs to be a recall and that customers should be able to have Toyota fix it. It’s continue to melt and it’s going to end up ruining the whole car. Please take cere of this, please check it as a recall. I would assume this would mess with the airbags as well. I cannot afford to have the whole dashboard replaced, when it should be a recall due to Toyota being at fault. It’s their responsibility to test these things and they failed big time with this. A dashboard should not melt.
The car accelerated uncontrollably for no apparent reason. I was pulling into a parking slot, preparing to put the car in park and stop the car. All of a sudden the car accelerated and slammed into a building.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while attempting to check the vehicle on Carfax, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The contact merged over to the side of the road and opened the Owner’s manual. The contact read that due to the warning lights being illuminated, the vehicle should not be driven. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed with, TPMS battery replacement, a leak inside of the accumulator, and a fractured actuator assembly failure. The vehicle was repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,417.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while in the process of trading the vehicle at the dealer, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The dashboard melted and everything sticks to it. also the visor to block sun unhinged on driver side and passenger side won’t go back up it just stays hanging down
Had a car accident and none of air bags deployed. Car rolled over several times and hit a ditch and property sign
The top dashboard is sticky, almost like a melting feeling. I've tried everything possible to no avail.
My car's VIN did not fall in the original recall of the sticky dashboard. Therefore, the dealership will not replace this without payment. I purchased the car from the dealership on a cloudy day, so I was not aware of this issue. I have increased light sensitivity and had to purchase polarized prescription sunglasses to see out my windshield every day, regardless of whether it is sunny or cloudy. If someone else drives my car, they can not see during daylight hours. It lessens during nighttime but is still a persistent issue otherwise. We've resorted to looking at coverlays to secure over the dash due to my inability to safely drive.
My 2011 Toyota Camry LE (2.5L, 2WD, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission) has been experiencing problems with oil consumption. I have to add a quart of oil between oil changes (add 1 quart every 2000 miles). I'm using the recommended oil type (OW-20). Also, I'm experiencing loud rattling noises coming from the engine after cold start up. The noise is very loud and usually quiets down after driving for about 5 minutes or so. These issues are very common for people who own this particular model. I'm wondering if there was a recall that I perhaps may have missed or wasn't informed on. This is a well known issue for toyota drivers. Something needs to be done to address these issues.
Bought car like this not sure what happened. It’s a 2011 Toyota Camry LE
Vehicle dashboard is melting.

Subject: Concern Regarding Toyota Camry 2011 LXE Dashboard Issue - VIN: [XXX] Dear NHTSA, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my concerns regarding a significant safety issue with the dashboard of my Toyota Camry 2011 LXE, VIN: [XXX] . We purchased this vehicle brand new and have maintained it diligently over the years. However, we have never received any recall notices concerning this issue, despite the dealer's claim that they were sent. The problem we are experiencing with our vehicle's dashboard is a sticky and peeling surface. Over time, the dashboard's material has deteriorated, becoming sticky and disintegrating. This poses a hazardous situation while driving, affecting both the aesthetics of the vehicle and safety due to impaired visibility and potential distraction. While I understand that Toyota has recognized this problem in other Toyota Camry vehicles and initiated a recall, our vehicle's VIN has been excluded from the recall list. We strongly believe that this issue is systemic and not confined to a specific range of VINs, and thus, our car should also be included in the recall. We kindly request the NHTSA's assistance in ensuring that our concerns are addressed promptly. We urge you to investigate the matter further and encourage Toyota to extend the recall to include our vehicle and others facing a similar issue. It is crucial to uphold safety and quality standards for automobiles in the United States, prioritizing the well-being of drivers and passengers. Furthermore, we would appreciate your guidance on the process to formally address this issue with Toyota. Our previous attempts to resolve the matter directly with the manufacturer have been unsuccessful, as they denied our request to include our vehicle in the recall. If you could provide information on the necessary steps to escalate our case or mediate with the manufacturer, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention on this INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Top surface of my Dashboard have some very sticky surface. I tried to clean with soap and water, and some other chemicals but nothing works. It is so sticky that when I tried to use rags to wipe off, my rag got stick to the surface. Specially in a hot summer day it almost seems like the surface is melting. Sometime I feel like, some of my medical issues may be related to this too. Because recently I stop driving this car for work (which I usually do a 1.25 hrs commute} and some of my issues reduced quite considerably. I talked to toyota and they told me that they did had a recall for this issue but Since during that time I just barely bought this vehile with a small dealership, they never informed me and I never received any mail . But they said they send me in the mail. Now they said that recall duration is over and there is nothin they can do about it. So I am stuck with this sticky dashboard. I will appreciate if you can advise me
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the dashboard cover melted and impaired the driver’s vision. The contact stated that the damaged dashboard caused a reflection on the windshield. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while his sister was driving the vehicle, while at a stop light, the engine continued to rev with the RPMs increasing. The brake pedal was being pressed during the failure. The vehicle then experienced unintended acceleration and drove into the intersection. The contact stated that the failure had occurred later the same day for a second time. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 175,800.
I need to know was there a recall on a oil consumption problem for my vehicle. There was an issue with me having to add oil to my vehicle constantly. I’m hearing stories that there may have been, but I didn’t receive any letter. And I just spent some thousands of dollars on an engine that I could not afford. PLEASE Help Me!! THANKS!!
I own a 2011 Toyota Camry. The dashboard has begun to melt and is causing potential glare issues, making the windshield turn into a mirror. Toyota is aware of the issue, and offered to replace the part through a special service campaign, once in 2018 and in 2021, however, they did not send the notice to the correct address - which we confirmed with them was an outdated address. Since we just began having the problem with the vehicle, we contacted Toyota, however they are stating that they are no longer offering the repairs and that we will have to pay nearly $3000 to fix it ourselves, more than the car's trade in value.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The dashboard of my 2011 Toyota Camry has melted and deteriorated over time. The surface has become soft, sticky, and shiny, likely due to prolonged sun exposure and heat. This is a known issue in this vehicle model. The dashboard is still in my vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The melting dashboard creates a glossy, mirror-like glare on the windshield, especially during the daytime or when the sun is directly hitting the dash. This glare significantly reduces my ability to see the road, traffic signals, other vehicles, and pedestrians, particularly when turning or driving toward sunlight. It makes everyday driving more dangerous and increases the risk of an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue has not yet been officially confirmed by a Toyota dealership or independent mechanic, but it is clearly visible and consistent, and I have taken photos documenting the condition. I plan to have it formally inspected. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by Toyota, the police, or any insurance representative. However, I am willing to provide access for inspection by the manufacturer or any other relevant party upon request. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps or messages related to this issue. I first noticed the dashboard becoming sticky and shiny around June 2023, and the glare and surface deterioration have steadily worsened since then, especially during the summer months or after the car is parked in the sun.
Visor blocking driving visibility making it a huge safety concern Other vehicles 2007 to 2011 were recalled but not this one Tpyota says. BUT the issue is exactly the same as the other ones.
Clear coat on blue Toyota started peeling a couple years ago and I took my car to Toyota to have the paint repaired, and now it os doing it again. I have seen numerous blue Toyotas of varying models that are doing the same thing.
The dashboard has become sticky and I am sensitive to the fumes it is giving off when I drive. I have to allow the car to air out as I have become dizzy when first entering the vehicle. I've contacted the dealer and was told a recall was performed, but I never received notice. No one has inspected my car, but this issue is well known by Toyota. There are no indicators of this issue other than the sticky dashboard and the fumes.
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance that included an oil change; however, the contact stated that a week later she noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact then stated that she checked the oil dipstick and noticed that the oil level was low and added two quarts of engine oil. The contact then stated that she was adding two quarts of oil per week. The contact notified an independent mechanic and was informed that the failure was a known issue. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The Camry is experiencing oil burning intake Manifold. On 14JUL22 at 163,286 miles the red light oil can drip light comes on and off in my dashboard. I take to Toyota of Freeman, they do the oil change and that is it. Then, at 168,786miles, within 4 months the red oil can drip light on my dashboard light comes on again. I go back to Toyota of Freeman the service rep. tells me that this problem will cost me between $3,500-$4,000. I went to another mechanic that is certified by Toyota and he said the problems is Piston Oil Ring needs to be replace. He called all the Toyota Parts looking for the Piston oil ring that is for the oil consumption. He stated nobody has it. In the meanwhile, every 1,000 to 3,000 miles my car runs, I have to check the oil stick not to burn all the way, because the engine will catch on fire. This is a very big safety issue that needs to be looked at. When I purchase Toyota, I went base on that this car will last up 250,000 like all of my Toyota cars had lasted in my past. I called Toyota HDQ and they is no recall for this issue but yes for Camry Hybrid 2007-2011 and a different engine. As i was doing my research in YouTube.com It seems there are more Camry with this same issue. This is a safety issue, if I ever forget to check my oil stick to see if I still have oil the car will get on fire. I believe Toyota has a manufacturing issue with the Piston Oil Ring not being available to repair the issue. This is high risk situation. They need to supply the part or fix the issue. This a liability issue.
Sticky dashebord Dashboard very melt. When is sun come out every summer
I have had a sticky dash causing excessive glare on my windshield for years. I recently received a recall notice for my 2011 toyota camry about the paint. I asked them while I was there if anything could be done about the dash as well and was informed that there was a recall on the dash, but it was expired. However, I was never notified by mail or phone or email that there was a recall on the dash until it was expired.
The Toyota dealership told me that the lower ball joints (LF & RF) must be replaced and that grease is leaking.
Purchased vehicle brand new and presently have a little over 76,000 miles. Driving on I-77 @ 65 my left Sunvisor suddenly came down impeding my view. Research informed me Toyota had a recall which had Expired. I knew nothing about the Recall but regardless they know it’s a problem but quoted me a price of $231.69️ to repair/replace. Why is Toyota allowed to punish customers for their malfunctioning issues. It’s frustrating and insulting. Please help
The contact owned a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 75 MPH, the vehicle drove over an unknown object on the roadway, and then veered to the left when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle drove to the median and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle crashed into the guardrail and then rolled over into a ditch. The front windshield and the driver's and passenger's side front windows were shattered, and the driver's side front door was jammed. A bystander used a crowbar to break the driver's side front window and pulled the contact's daughter out of the vehicle. The air bags were not deployed upon impact. A police report was filed. The contact's daughter received medical attention for body aches. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 146,708.
I am having an issue with a sticky melting dashboard in my 2011 Camry. I recently noticed this as I was driving and there is this glare that puts me and my family at risk every day. I bought my Camry brand new in 2011 for which I paid 32k for it and now I am being left with a dangerous dashboard. Toyota should be forced to help its costumers .
My dashboard on my 2011 Camry has recently started melting & is extremely sticky. One spot on the driver's side is really bad & causing a glare on my windshield. I am very concerned this is going to cause visibility issues while driving. This is a clear defect. After doing extensive research to figure out why this is happening & what to do, I called my local dealership on 7-22-22, then called Toyota Corp same day. They refused to do anything to help me! The rep told me an extended warranty was offered for various Toyota models due to sticky dashboards including my car, but that mine expired May 2021. When I told her I never received anything in the mail, she replied they only send out notices for recalls & this wasn't a recall. She suggested to get an estimate from my local dealership, then call back, but that they still couldn't cover the repair. I asked to speak with a Supervisor, but no one ever answered. The rep told me a supervisor would call me back within 24 hours...4 days later...still nothing. This is absolutely ridiculous that Toyota would expect me to repair this obvious manufacturing defect out of my pocket! My dash is ugly & dangerous! This is my third Toyota & I always recommend Toyota vehicles to friends/ family. I was getting ready to purchase another Toyota, but I'm so disappointed in Toyota that I'm seriously reconsidering. I can't believe they don't seem to care about their customers anymore than this.
Dashboard panel has become sticky and degraded. Light touch leaves indentations and marks with pieces of material breaking off.
The dashboard has become very sticky and shiny creating a very bad glare on my windshield. It makes driving more difficult when I cannot see.
THE SUPPLIED JACK DOES NOT RAISE VEHICLE HIGH ENOUGH WHEN USED ON PAVEMENT AS INSTRUCTED BY MANUAL. DASH MOBILE DIRECTION GIVES UNSAFE DIRECTIONS AND THE WRONG WAY ON A ONE WAY STREET.
My 2011 Toyota Camry is using too much oil. I am the original owner and have always kept up with the oil changes. The car only has 76,822 miles. The first thing I noticed when I started my car up was lights on dashboard stayed on a few seconds longer than normal which the oil light was one of them. It was not due for an oil change yet but I decided to take the car in to see if the oil needed topped off. The oil didn't register on the dipstick. They had to add 2 qts. of oil. After I put 750 mi. more on my car, it started sounding louder. I took it back in to have the oil checked again, this time it was a quart low. I have these receipts with the mileage on them. I'm seeing other people have these same complaints. I bought this car because I thought it would be dependable. This is an issue I believe Toyota is aware of and they should have to do a recall on this. This is low miles for this car and I shouldn't be having this major of an issue.
Dear NHTSA Investigators, I am writing to formally report what I believe is a significant safety defect in certain 2007–2011 Toyota Camry vehicles, specifically related to excessive engine oil consumption in models equipped with the 2AZ-FE 2.4L four-cylinder engine (primarily 2007–2009, with some reports extending to later years). This issue causes the engine to burn oil at an abnormally high rate—often 1 quart or more every few hundred to 1,200 miles—without any visible external leaks. Owners frequently report no adequate warning from the dashboard oil light or other indicators before the oil level drops critically low. If the engine runs out of oil while driving, it can lead to rapid overheating, internal component damage (such as scored bearings or cylinder walls), and sudden engine seizure or catastrophic failure. Such a failure while the vehicle is in motion poses a serious safety risk, including: potential for crashes, including rear-end collisions if the vehicle stops abruptly without warning, or veering into other lanes/obstacles. Sudden loss of engine power. Increased likelihood of loss of control etc. This problem has been widely documented through thousands of owner complaints (e.g., hundreds on sites like CarComplaints.com for the 2007 model alone), NHTSA ODI reports, and Toyota's own Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and Warranty Enhancement Programs (such as ZE7 for certain models). While Toyota addressed it via a warranty extension (not a full recall) involving piston/ring replacements for qualifying vehicles after an oil consumption test, many owners—particularly those outside the original coverage period or with higher mileage—have faced expensive engine repairs or replacements out of pocket. The lack of a mandatory recall means the issue persists in many vehicles still on the road. I am concerned that this defect creates an unreasonable risk to drivers, passengers, and other road users. I had an issue with this and I needed to fill up 4.5Q
Sunroof randomly exploded. I was driving approximately 40mph down a city road on 5/18/22 and the sunroof exploded dropping a 4x8 inches worth of glass shards and fracturing the rest of the glass. There was no debris, rough driving conditions or unlevel road when it happened. I was relatively safe when it happened as there was not any traffic, but if it were on the highway in traffic it could have caused issue. I have not done any inspections by manufacturer, insurance, etc. I was not sure how accountability works with it breaking for no reason, so I was just planning to buy a used sunroof and replacing it. There were no warning, just a random bang when it exploded.
