Airbags did not deploy after an accident that resulted in the hood crumpling. Car was at a complete stop when hit from behind at approximately 45mph, resulting in the car being pushed forward into the back of another vehicle.
WAS GLIDING INTO MY GARAGE FOOT WAS ON BRAKE, (SO NO SPEED AT ALL) WHEN I HEARD A SUDDEN ENGINE ROAR AND CAR PICKED UP SPEED AND WAS PROPELLING ME TOWARD THE BACK WALL OF THE GARAGE. I IMMEDIATELY JAMMED ON MY BRAKE BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING RACKS AND WALL AT THE BACK OF MY GARAGE. THIS ACCELERATION OF THE CAR RESULTED IN PROPERTY DAMAGE TO CAR AND AND PROPERTY.
The driver door began to rattle when the door was closed or when driving down the road. I took it to my Toyota dealer and when they removed the door panel they found the intrusion bar's weld had failed. They confirmed it was a safety issue and referred me to their body shop. The body shop informed they are not allowed to reweld the bar and the only fix is to replace the door. This car has never been in an accident so my only conclusion is that when the car was manufactured the weld was improperly performed. I cannot afford to replace this door and I'm left to drive a car with no intrusion bar to protect me in an accident. I find this very concerning and this should not be something I should have to repair. In conclusion I believe this is Toyota manufacturing issue and they should be responsible for replacing this door which is endangering my safety as an owner and consumer. Thank you.
The engine quit running whenever the headlights, turn signals, or wipers were turned on. This was obviously a serious safety problem when driving! It began intermittently on 6/30/25, but it became a consistent problem by 7/7/25, so I took the car to the closest Toyota Dealership for evaluation. I can provide their service report to you if requested. It took them 6 hours and $1000 to diagnose the problem as bad electrical grounding points (high resistance), which were only revealed after they removed the front bumper. In my opinion, it is an unsafe design to have poor grounding for headlights cause the engine to die.
Car accident, got hit from the front and back. Car is totaled from the accident, airbags failed to deploy
Malfunction of connections to radio system. All buttons surrounding radio, including radio control buttons on steering wheel, do not function. The screen still turns on and displays the typical home screen but the screen does not function either leaving the radio system stuck on the home screen. Again , none of the buttons and/or screen functions work connected to the radio. The clock time is still displayed and will change but it is the wrong time but once again, cannot be changed because the functions surrounding the radio do not work.
the engine pull broke. the mechanics told me it’s a common issue with toyota so why is there not a recall. it causes the car to stall and today it would not go forward. this is safety issue if it happens while i’m driving
The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the seat belts of the driver’s and passenger’s side rear seats failed to retract, causing concerns for the contact. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the seat belt retractors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,393.
I have a 2016 Toyota Camry LE and I'm having problems with the shaft and that is dangerous. I see that other Camry's are having the same problem as my car is. I think this problem need to be reported as a recall.
The radio touchscreen does not work and the buttons on the steering wheel do not function as well. I am unable to touch the screen and the radio changes stations abruptly without me touching it. I am unable to listen to music or change the radio to Bluetooth to listen to my music on my phone.
Radio stopped working
The car is beige and peeling everywhere. I know there is a recall for paint for white and Blizzard, but its doing the same for the beige color. I would like it repainted.
While loading groceries in my trunk, the torsion bar sheared off and broke (the hook part). It fell hard on my shoulder (fortunately not my neck or head). I have never seen steel actually break rather than bend. I tried to fix it but could not. Trunk is heavy and unstable (falls easily), as is part of car in back. Went to Toyota dealer and found out no recall, and "iffy" fix. They wanted $488.50 to try and fix. My body shop estimated $164. and purchased correct Toyota parts, followed their instructions. The bars only held for a few minutes, then they failed to hold up the trunk again. I was almost injured again with this failure, but managed to catch it in time. They refunded me $100. since they said there was no more "play" to work with. Went on social media only to find that many Toyota Camry 2016 and 2015s had torsion bar failures, with no recall. Some said that they spent over $1000. trying to fix it, but never could, no matter what dealership or body shop repaired it. Others gave up and sold it. It is not something that I can "live with". the trunk is heavy to life and unstable. Have to hold it while trying to put things in trunk. I have had 6 Toyotas in my life and 3 cars with Auto Nation, but have never had the lack of integrity, follow-through and non-solutions that I have experienced with the purchase of this car. Unlike others, I can't afford to sell/replace my car at this time, and can't live with it as is. I truly love my car, but do not feel safe using it and am totally frustrated. All I want is for Toyota and/or its mfr.) to own up to the design flaw and either fix or replace it. Note: I have photos of broken part, failure, and estimates, but couldn't get them to download onto your form. (It just kept deleting the form and having me start over). Please advise if I can send another way.
Radio screen failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that upon coming to a complete stop, the "Check Charging System," message was displayed and the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.
Hit a dog on the highway at 66 mph on the passenger front and all of the airbags deployed except the one on the passenger side front. Driver is fine, the poor dog did not make it. Now the car is a total loss.

I was on the highway during traffic hour going approximately 40 mph at 2 rpm and when I tried to accelerate to keep up with the flow of traffic, the car did not accelerate and actually slowed down and suddenly shifted down below 1 rpm which caused the oncoming cars behind me to hit their brakes hard. After it slowed down and did not accelerate, even though I pressed the gas pedal further, it suddenly shifted to 3.5 rpm and bolted forward towards the vehicle slowing down in front of me causing me to slam the brakes. It felt as if there was a disconnect between the transmission and the engine. Nothing popped up on the dashboard. This continued twice more before I pulled over and restarted the car to see if would help and it sort of did for about 10 miles before occurring once more before I reached my destination, so I pulled over and checked it on my OM126p and it showed no faults in the system. I then took it to the mechanic the next day and the car was fine the mechanic cleared the vehicle and said it was probably due to a clogged fuel filter and I have an appointment with them in hopes of fixing this problem. Now I’ve read into the problem and it seems to be a recurring problem and there’s been countless situations like mine in which the safety of both I and others on the road have been put at great risk. Please look into the problem on the off chance it isn’t a problem with filters. Please look after the safety of everybody on the road. Thank you.
The information center touch screen does not respond in the cold weather
Vehicle- 2016 Toyota Camry As I was making a slight turn on the highway, my steering wheel began to sparatically veering left and right, which resulted in me hitting a curb, not once but twice. Due to the heavy impact and harsh involuntary, out of control steering the airbag should have deployed. However, it failed to do so. Instead, only the "airbag light" came on my dashboard along with warning lights that had not been there prior to accident.
Erratic steering issue related to weak car battery. I have a 2016 Toyota Camry XLE. The car began pulling to the left then to the right while driving down a straight and even road. The car would then resume normal steering for a minute or two, then the erratic steering behavior would resume for several minutes. In addition, the steering wheel would not return to center after making left or right turns. This steering issue would begin 1 - 5 minutes from the start of a trip a continue throughout the journey. This issue has been reported by many other Camry owners in several online automotive related repair sites with each person describing these same steering issues. They stated that the problem was resolved when they replaced their car battery. I decided to replace my 4-year-old True Start battery with a new DieHard Platinum battery from Advance Auto Parts and had them install it a week ago. Since then, the steering issue has not returned, and I consider this issue resolved.
The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, during sunny or rainy weather conditions, the rearview camera image was not working as intended. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was advised that the failure may be related with a faulty light bulb; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,300. The VIN was not provided.
This 2016 Toyota Camry LE developed a steering problem. Initially, the steering pulled mildly to the left when the car was cold. This resolved after 5 minutes of driving. My mechanic could find no problem with the steering. Eventually (2 weeks) the steering would additionally intermittently pull moderately to the right. This was not reproducible. If I did not hold the wheel firmly, the car would turn off the road or across the lane to the right. Within one week the car would became difficult to start. Two days later the battery failed completely. Replacing the battery totally corrected the steering problems. I conclude that the failing battery could not adequately power the electric motors in the power steering. This was the first sign of a failing battery. I had never heard of this before. There was no warning light. I believe that such an unusual sign of a failing battery should be publicized as an important warning for all cars with electrically controlled power steering.
Subject: Investigation Request: Excessive Oil Consumption in 2012-2017 Toyota 2.5L Engines To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to request an investigation into a critical defect with Toyota’s 2.5L 4-cylinder engines in 2012-2017 vehicles, including my 2016 Toyota Camry SE. Despite regular maintenance and timely oil changes, my vehicle began consuming oil excessively around 120,000 miles, leading to significant safety risks. The problem began with sluggish acceleration and grinding noises, both hazardous in city traffic. After hearing grinding noises, I checked the oil level, and the dipstick was completely dry, despite still having 3,000 miles until my next scheduled oil change. The engine was consuming one quart of oil per week under normal driving conditions. Despite multiple visits to Toyota-certified dealerships, the issue was overlooked or minimized. Eventually, a dealership diagnosed worn piston rings, but by 130,000 miles, my engine had completely failed. I’m thankful [XXX] that my engine never quit while I was driving at highway speeds or in city traffic, as it could have been a serious accident. This issue is well-documented among owners of 2015-2017 Toyota Camrys and other models equipped with the same engine, even when vehicles are properly maintained. This defect not only threatens engine reliability but also endangers drivers by causing performance failures, such as grinding noises, sluggish acceleration, and unexpected power loss. Toyota has issued recalls for similar engine defects in other vehicles but has failed to address this issue for the 2.5L 4-cylinder engines in the 2012-2017 models. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this widespread issue and hold Toyota accountable for ensuring the safety and reliability of these vehicles. This was a T-Bone accident. My front airbags did not deploy as the hit happened at 40 mph.
The car starts shaking and the stirring wheel at 40 mph or more. 10 /1/23.
The rear brake (passage side) had very uneven wearing. It is the outside pad only. It is a potential safety issue. It was discovered when performing brake inspection by myself. There was no warning except some grinding noise.
Just at 70,000 miles a service light came on. After checking I found the oil was very low, about 2 quarts. I took it to the dealer for the oil change on 10/17/2022 and the service tech said that the hybrids use (burn) a little oil. That seems excessive to me. I just check my oil and it is a quart low with 3800 miles after the last oil change. Could have been burning oil for some time and didn't know it due to the fact I always took it to the dealer for the oil changes. They never said anything about the car burning or using oil, There is no leak as no oil in my driveway and on the engine. I'm afraid it might lock up on me when I on the road and could cause me to wreak.
Micro leaks in radiator top plastic, could be defect with any camrys. Had to replace radiator.

My car when I driving lose power and in seconds the rpm come highly and make my car dangerous because accelerated when I don’t use the gas pedal
My car would not turn off, change gears out of park into drive or reverse, no reaction when the gas pedal was pushed. It was part way into the garage on an inclined driveway. I called my insurance company to have a tow truck help. I got out of the car to try and open the trunk and get my shopping out of it, but the trunk would not open either. I thought perhaps if I put the car in neutral it might open, but instead it rolled down the driveway, bottomed out at the end of the driveway, rolled across the street and crashed into the ditch. Thank goodness it hit the ditch because it was headed toward the neighbor's cars and house. It was still running when it stopped in the ditch! The neighbors all came out and tried to turn it off without success. The frame was bent, the rear end of the car was smashed and the insurance company said it was totaled. My car had been in perfect condition. I have since spoken with others who know of friends who have had the same issue. One person left their car running all night until it ran out of gas.
I parked my Toyota Camry Hybrid on my sloped driveway, and it wouldn't turn off, change gears, no response when gas pedal pressed. I called my insurance to tow it and while I was waiting, I tried to open the trunk to remove items. It wouldn't open, but somehow, I was able to get it into neutral thinking perhaps I could open the trunk. Not so. The car started rolling down the drive, bottomed out at the end, rolled across the street into a ditch. Fortunately, the ditch stopped it form hitting the 2 cars across the street and their house. It was still running. The neighbors all arrived to see me sobbing. The men tried to turn it off, but no luck. The insurance company totaled it because the frame was bent. I hadn't had my car very long and I was devastated. It was still drivable and I had to keep driving it even though the mechanic I took it to told me not to. The mechanic looked it over and could find no reason for the issue. I eventually found a used Toyota Avalon in silver, but not the beautiful sparkly red of the Camry. It made it onto America's Funniest Videos, but it's not funny. I tried to attach the video my Ring took, but I can't get it to attach. If you'd like to see me running down the driveway chasing it I can send you the video another way. It's on TikTok. Fortunately, I wasn't able to get into the car or the door would have flattened me. Sorry the pics are sideways. That's the way they loaded.

There was only minor damage to the front bumper, but I destroyed two plants in the center divide. (I do not know, as of yet, if there was any damage to underneath of car.) As I was less than two miles from home, I drove the vehicle home. The next business day I had the vehicle towed to the Toyota dealership in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I told them of the problem and they immediately notified corporate. Corporate has taken possession of the car and said its investigation will take 30 days. I was not offered a loaner car.

After driving in highway about 1 hour, The driver side door HALF OPENED BY ITSELF. Car has ~60K miles, this incident is happening for the first time. Before driving door was closed as usual. The car speed was ~ 77 mph during the incident, It was windy day, road quality was ideal.
On 01/14/2022, I was in a car accident. I hit a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport head on at 45 mph and my airbags didn’t deploy nor did my seatbelts lock. My car is available for inspection at Classic Collision of Augusta body repair shop. Since my airbags did not deploy and my seatbelt did not lock, I made contact with my steering wheel and my right hand made contact with the dash. My passenger’s airbags did not deploy nor did their seatbelt lock. They made contact with the window, door, and dash of my car. We sustained injuries from the accident. Unknown if problem has been reproduced or confirmed by dealer or service center. Vehicle has been inspected by my auto insurance and the body repair shop, but unknown results. Unknown if any other entities have inspected the vehicle. Yes, a maintenance required message was present for a oil change required. Message appeared when mileage hit 48479 due for oil change per the mileage on the sticker on my windshield.
I was hit by a car that ran a red light going around 45mph. The front passenger side was hit, we were hit hard. No airbags deployed. Other cars airbags did deploy.
The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the glass sunroof suddenly exploded causing glass pieces to enter the cabin of the vehicle. No injuries were reported. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 127,000.
When accelerating from a stop, the engine revs but very little power and forward motion, then suddenly, the vehicle lurches as though it has gone from neutral to first gear. The danger here is that I am dangerously crawling through the intersection. In addition, while driving around 30 mph, the vehicle will also suddenly lose power as though it shifts from drive to neutral. I hit a deer that caused all of the airbags to go off. A specific airbag under the steering wheel, a knee bag, caused severe bruising and soft tissue to my calf’s, crippling me for nearly a week. At one point I visited my doctor who confirmed the damage, did a test for roving blood clots, and sent me home to continue to recover. It’s been just over 5 months and I still have visible damage. I would have suffered no injuries if that ‘knee-curtain’ hadn’t been there or if it had not acted like a brick slamming into my legs. I’m concerned for others who may suffer similar unnecessary injuries because of this device.

FIRST ISSUE, (MINOR) DRIVER SIDE REAR SEATBELT DOES NOT RECOIL CORRECTLY. MUST BE MANUALLY FED IN ORDER TO RESET FOR NEXT USE. SECOND ISSUE, HOOD LATCH DOES NOT RELEASE AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO. YOU MUST HAVE A LONG FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER AND MANUALLY LIFT THE HOOK FROM THE HOOD IN ORDER TO RAISE HOOD. APPEARS TO BE A WEAK SPRING ON THE LEVER. NOT SURE WHAT ABOUT THIS CAR MAKES IT EAT TIRES BUT I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW (12 MILES) AND NOW HAVE 98,000 AND I AM GOONG THROUGH TIRES APPROXIMATELY EVERY 10,000 MILES REGARDLESS OF BRAND OR WARRANTY. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE ALIGNED MULTIPLE TIMES BY MULTIPLE COMPANIES AND STILL NO WEAR PATTERN ON TIRES JUST WORN COMPLETELY SMOOTH. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH THE THOUGHT OF PUTTING MY SON IN IT IT TRAVEL TO COLLEGE AND BACK BUT I WILL GET RID OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE I PUT MY CHILD IN IT FULL TIME. HE DOESN'T NEED THE HEADACHE OF CHECKING TIRES AND REPLACING THEM EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. THERE IS NO TIRE SPECIALIST WITH ANY IDEA WHY THE TIRES WOULD BE WEARING THIS BAD ON THIS VEHICLE. MAKES ME WONDER IF OTHER CONSUMERS ARE HAVING TO REPLACE THEIRS AS OFTEN AS I DO. I DO LIVE IN A RURAL AREA BUT ON A PAVED ROAD AND MOST OF MY TRAVEL IS VIA HIGHWAY. DATE PROVIDED IS DATE OF LAST TIRE ROTATION AND REPLACEMENT.
HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OFF AND ON, L DON'T DRIVE AT NIGHT MOSTLY TILL RECENTLY, L TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALER. THEY GAVE ME ESTIMATE ABOUT $600.00 TO FIT IT .CLAIMING, I NEEDS REPLACING HEADLIGHT STALK/SWITCH(FOUND HEADLIGHT STOCK/SWITCH OPEN CIRCUT). THE MILEAGE ON MY CAR JUST 21,103. ALSO, THIS MY 3RD TOYOTA, AND USED THEM MORE THAN TEN YEARS WITH THIS PROBLEM, THIS MUST BE MANUFACTURAL DEFAULT, AND FIND OUT THAT, SOME ARE RE-CALL FOR SOME CAMRY 2016. PLEASE. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS
AFTER SITTING ALMOST ALL WINTER, I WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR THREE BLOCKS AWAY. I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TOO MUCH PLAY IN IT. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IS A TYPICAL PROBLEM ON THE CAMRY, SO WHY ISNT THERE A RECALL ON IT. MY CAR ONLY HAS 25,543 MILES ON IT, ITS HARDLY CONSIDERED OLD. ON A PAVED ROAD.
THE PANEL THAT CONTROLS THE POWER SEATS BROKE WHEN THE PLASTIC MADE CONTACT WITH THE FRONT OF THE SEAT RAIL WHILE ADJUSTING THE SEAT BACKWARDS FROM THE MOST FORWARD POSITION WHILE THE CAR WAS STOPPED. WHEN DRIVING, THE PANEL THAT BROKE AT THE FRONT ALLOWED THE SEAT TO ENGAGE MOVEMENT WITHOUT DRIVER KNOWLEDGE AND CAUSING DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING. DRIVER PUT DUCT TAPE ON FRONT OF PANEL SO IT WOULD NOT SELF ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING. TOYOTA DEALER ADVISES THIS HAPPENS QUITE FREQUENTLY AND THERE SHOULD BE A TSB ON IT BUT THERE IS NOT. SAYS REPAIR IS $400. SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECT IN DESIGN SINCE I HAVE ONLINE RECORD OF OVER 100 CARS BEING AFFECTED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF LOUISVILLE (6514 DIXIE HWY LOUISVILLE, KY 40258) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE SPIRAL CABLE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PAID FOR OUT OF POCKET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,197.
MY TOYOTA CAMRY MAKES A SCARY NOISE THAT APPEARS TO BE BEHIND THE DASHBOARD RIGHT BEHIND THE AIR CONDITIONER. IT COMES ON AND OFF. IN ADDITION, IN 2018 THE NOISE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE WHOLE DASHBOARD SIGNS RED WITH A STRONG NOISE THAT APPEARS SOMETHING BROKE INSIDE.
