CONSUMER STATES THAT IT TAKES ABOUT (10) MINUTES BEFORE SHE CAN BUCKLE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BECAUSE OF MECHANISM IN THE RETRACTOR AND SOMETIMES WHEN THE BELT IS BUCKLED IT BECOMES VERY TIGHT. VEHICLE WILL TO TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP THIS WEEKEND. *AK

A CONTACTED ROD BLEW OFF THE VEHICLE, CAUSNG OIL TO SPILL ON THE ENIGNE COMPARMENT, RESULTING IN VEHICLE CATCHING ON FIRE.

LTR FROM CONGRESSMAN JO BONNER ON BEHALF OF HIS CONSTITUENT, WHO HAS CONCERNS ABOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL IN HIS 1996 TOYOTA COROLLA. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE CONSUMER CONTROL DID NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED. THE CONSUMER STATED TOYOTA DENIED KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL. *JB

DUE TO DESIGN OF THE HEAD RESTRAINT, WHEN DRIVING IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE IN EITHER DIRECTIONS, CONSUMER STATES THAT THE HEAD REST IS TOO WIDE. *AK

NO DEPLOYMENT OF AIR BAG IN ACCIDENT.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN FRONTAL LEFT-SIDE CRASH, BRAKING FROM 60 TO 65MPH WHEN THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. TOYOTA DID AN INVESTIGATION AND FORWARDED THE RESULTS, BUT CONSUMER IS NOT SATISFIED AND DOES NOT AGREE WITH THE RESULTS. *AK
ENGINE VIBRATION HAS CAUSED EXCESSIVE WEAR ON ENGINE COMPONENTS.
WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
DURING FRONTAL IMPACT AT 50MPH, THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.700765 DUP OF 822156; POSTED ON 09-07-1999. *AK
WHILE DRIVNG VEHICLE THERE IS AN UNKNOWN SLASH IN THE TIRES THAT CAUSES VEHICLE TO LOSE AIR WHEN COMING TO STOPS. VEHICLE HAS NOT RAN OVER ANYTHING TO CAUSE A PROBLEM. ALSO TIRE PRESSURE IS CHECKEDS AND SET TO MANUFACTURER'S SPECS. *AK
VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 50MPH AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IMPROPERLY, AND KNOCKED DRIVER'S HEAD THROUGH SIDE WINDOW. GAS FROM THE AIRBAG IGNITED A FIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SWEAT SHIRT. MANUFACTURER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. *AK
THE BRAKE LIGHTS OF MY TOYOTA COROLLA (1996 MODEL) HAVE BEEN HAVING SOME MALFUNCTIONS ON AND OFF FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BULB PROBLEM, SO I CHECKED THE ASSEMBLY MYSELF. THE BULBS ARE ALL OK. THE BULBS WILL LIGHT WHEN I TOUCH THE WIRES CONNECTIONS. THE BULBS WILL BE OK FOR A WHILE (DAYS, HOURS OR DAYS), BUT IT WILL STOP FUNCTIONING SOME TIME AFTERWARDS. IT SEEMS THERE IS A CONNECTION PROBLEM IN THE DESIGN OF THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. SINCE I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON IT, I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. I HAVE NOTICED THE PROBLEM ON SAME MODEL CARS ON THE ROAD. TO DO A SIMPLE TEST, YOU MAY WANT TO LOCATE A 96/97 MODEL WITH TAILLIGHT BLACKOUTS. IF THE BULBS ARE OK, MY STATEMENT WILL BE VALID. *AK
REAR RIGHT BLINKER BULB BURNED OUT AT LEAST FOUR OR MORE TIMES SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED. DEALER FOUND POOR GROUNDING FIRST TIME AND AFTER THAT DEALER ONLY REPLACED BULB, WITH NO FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF PROBLEM. TRYING TO GET REPAIRED "AGAIN". DEALER IMPLIES THAT THERE NOT SURE IF THIS IS A "WARRANTY PROBLEM" AND I MAY NOT BE ENTITLED TO A RENTAL CAR. THIS IS ONLY THE FOUTH TIME FOR REPAIR, WHAT CONSTITUES A WARRANTY PROBLEM AND ACCIDENT AND SEVERAL LIVES TAKEN AWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 70 MILES AND HOUR - NO ONE IS LOOKING FOR HAND SIGNALS. HAD ELECTRICAL FAILURE TRYING TO UNLUCK DOORS USING LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON WHILE SITTING INSIDE. HAD TO MANUALLY UNLOCK DOOR OR PUT KEY INTO IGNITION TO UNLOCK DOORS. DEALER STATED PROBLEM WOULD NOT REPEAT ITSELF, SO IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. NOT ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC RAN. HAVE NOISE COMING FROM FONT END OF CAR. THE FIRST TIME REPAIRED I WAS TOLD IT WAS SOME TYPE OF "ARM" THAT LOST A BOLT. NOISE CEASED FOR ABOUT A MONTH. HOWEVER, NOISE DID RETURN AND GROWS INCREASINGLY LOUDER WHILE MAKING SHARP TURNS, BACKING UP, AND ON INCLINES BACKING UP. SOUNDS AS THOUGH FRONT END AXLE IS FALLING OFF. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A "NORMAL SOUND" THE BRAKES MAKE WHILE SHIFTING AND IT IS THE SOUND OF ALL BRAKES ON THE 1996 TOYOTA, COROLLA. SOUND WERE NOT THERE WHEN CAR WAS PURCHASED NOR DOES IT STATE THAT SOUND SHOULD OCCUR IN OWNER'S MANUAL. I FEEL UNSAFE IN MY CAR FOR ME AND FAMILY.
I BELIEVE THE CAR HAS BEEN WRECKED B/C OF CERTAIN PARTS TO THE BODY. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED IN SUMMARY. *AK
SAME DEFECT AS 1996 TOYOTA CAMRY RECALL- TAIL-LIGHT ASSEMBLY MELTED DUE TO OVERHEATED BULB. *AK
THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE REAR LIGHTS SOCKETS, THE INSIDE CONNECTOR IS MADE OF PLASTIC AND WHEN THEY GET HOT AND OLD IT MELTS, LOOSING THE CONNECTIONS WITH THE BOTTON OF THE LIGHT BULB, I HAVE TO PURCHASE FROM TOYOTA A NEW WIRING SET, BUT THE NEW ONES ARE MADE OF THE SAME PLASTIC, SO THEY WILL FAIL AGAIN, I HAVE SEEM PLENTY OF TOYOTAS COROLLAS WITH REAR LIGHTS MALFUNCTION IN THE ROAD. CONSUMER COMMENTS THAT THE RIGHT REAR OUT BOARD SEAT BELT, FULLY EXTENDED, WILL NOT RETRACT, THEREFORE MAKING IT UNSAFE TO UTILIZE CHILD SAFETY SEAT. *JG
CONSUMER PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO THE GARAGE AND TOOK THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, AND CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONTACTED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY CAME AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THAT A MALFUNCTION WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CAUSED THE FIRE. *AK
