CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED AND REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP UNDER SERVICE CAMPAIGN AT 69,811 MILES HAS NOW FAILED AGAIN AT 152,000 MILES. TOYOTA NOTIFIED AT THEY DECLINED TO PROVIDE REPAIR AGAIN AT THERE EXPENSE. I HAD A HONDA GO 250,000 AND NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CONVERTER. THERE HAS TO BE AN INHERENT PROBLEM IN THE ONE IN MY TOYOTA COROLLA !! ALSO OTHER RECALL ON AIRBAGS THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS TO FIX.
DRIVER EXPERIENCED A SURGE IN UNCALLED FOR ACCELERATION WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO STOP FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE CAR STOPPED AFTER THIS SURGE AFTER HEAVY BRAKE APPLICATION AND BECAME NORMAL. THIS WAS NOT REPEATED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP OF APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES.

TOYOTA HAS ISSUED ME A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE INDICATING THAT THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THEY HAVE WARNED ME NOT TO HAVE ANYONE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, YET THEY HAVE NOT PROVIDED ANY DETAILS ABOUT REPLACEMENT PARTS OR TIMELINE - OTHER THAN TO SAY THAT IT WILL HAPPEN SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION, NOR IS IT HELPFUL.
SRS LIGHT CAME ON, MANUAL SAYS TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK UNTIL THIS REPAIR IS COMPLETED. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE 1.3 MILLION VEHICLES OF THE 2006-2010 RECALL FOR THE SAME PART.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000.

THERE IS NO INCIDENT, JUST A CONSUMER COMPLAINT. I HAVE TWO OUTSTANDING SAFETY RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. 15V043 DATED 1/27/15 AND 15V285 DATED 6/10/14. NEITHER OF THESE RECALLS HAS A REMEDY YET AND THAT IS VERY DISTURBING. ESPECIALLY THE ONE A YEAR OLD. WE CAN'T PARK THE CAR, NEED IT FOR TRANSPORTATION SO WE DRIVE IT IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION. WHAT IF WE DESIRE TO SELL THE CAR? TWO OUTSTANDING RECALLS CERTAINLY AFFECT THE PRICE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT TOYOTA HAS DROPPED THE BALL IN GETTING A REMEDY FOR THESE RECALLS. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE NHTSA TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND HAVE A REMEDY IN A TIMELY FASHION. LAST MAY 5 MELODY TOYOTA SAN BRUNO TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO DO A RECALL ON THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR. AND IT WAS FINE FOR 3 MONTHS. THEN ON AUG. 9 WHEN I WAS TAKING MY COUSIN TO THE AIRPORT (SFO) THE SRS WARNING LIGHT JUST CAME ON ALL THE WAY STRAIGHT HOME. AND I DROVE BACK TO MELODY TOYOTA LAST TUESDAY SINCE THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T ATTEND TO ME LAST MONDAY BECAUSE TECHNICIAN SHORTAGE. AFTER THEY MADE THE DIAGNOSIS ON MY CAR THEY SAID THERE'S A SHORT CIRCUIT ON MY AIRBAG SPIRAL CABLE CLOCK SPRING W/C IS LOCATED INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY SAID IF THIS SPIRAL CABLE IS DEFECTIVE ALL THE AIRBAGS IN MY CAR IS DISABLED AND WILL NOT DEPLOY IF I HIT ANOTHER CAR OR A TREE W/C IS REALLY LIFE THREATENING. MY QUESTION IS WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY $550.00 TO GET THAT SPIRAL CABLE REPLACED. AND ON THE OTHER HAND MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM NOT UNTIL WHEN THEY REPLACE THAT FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR LAST MAY 5. THEY EVEN ASK ME IF I HAD AN ACCIDENT RECENTLY. I THINK THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT SINCE THEY'VE BEEN DOING ALL THE SERVICES ON MY CAR FOR 6 YEARS. OR IS THERE ANY RECALL ON THIS SPIRAL CABLE? I HOPE YOU GIVE ME AN ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION. GOT INTO WHAT COULD'VE BEEN A MINOR ACCIDENT, BUT THE CAR WAS TOTALED, HOWEVER, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT EVEN DEPLOY. BEFORE THE ACCIDENT, THE SEATBELT WOULD LOCK AT RANDOM TIMES, WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WAS MAKING A U-TURN ON A STATE ROAD. ONCE HIT, THE ENTIRE TIRE WENT UNDER THE CAR AND THE ENTIRE FRONT CAME OFF, WHICH WAS WHY I WAS SURPRISED THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF.

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH AND A CAR WAS CUTTING INTO MY LANE AND I SWERVED AND BLEW MY HORN AND THEN MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, STAYED ON AND IS STILL ON. WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY SAID THE "TECHNICIAN FOUND DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE B1181 OPEN CIRCUIT IN DRIVER'S SIDE SQUIB AND RECOMMEND REPLACING THE SPIRAL CABLE" (A PART ASSOCIATED WITH THE AIRBAGS) AND AS LONG AS THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON, I HAD NO AIRBAG PROTECTION. THE ESTIMATE TO FIX IS VERY EXPENSIVE.
AFTER 6 SECOND CHECK PERIOD, AIRBAG WARNIG LIGHT STAYED ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE SYSTEM IS NOT OPERATING AS DESIGNED

MANY YEARS AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT OF MY 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE FIX BY TOYOTA WAS TO INSTALL FLOOR ANCHORS TO HOLD THE FLOOR MAT IN A STABLE POSITION SO IT COULD NOT SLIDE AROUND. THE FIX WORKED FOR A FEW YEARS, THEN THE ANCHORS BROKE. I PAID TOYOTA FOR NEW ANCHORS WHICH AGAIN FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME. RECENTLY, THE ANCHORS AGAIN FAILED AND I WILL AGAIN NEED NEW ANCHORS TO STABILIZE THE FLOOR MAT. I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD COME UP WITH A MORE PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. UPDATED 7/20/15*CN UPDATED 11/13/15 *JS
A VEHICLE WAS STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF STREET WITHOUT RUNNING OR LIGHTS ON. OUR VEHICLE HIT PARKED VEHICLE IN REAR AND SMASHED FRONT IN SO NOT DRIVABLE BUT AIRBAGS DID NOT EMPLOY AT IMPACT. POLICE OFFICER VERIFIED THE DRIVER SIDE AT LEAST SHOULD HAVE EMPLOYED UPON IMPACT. DRIVER IS SORE AND BRUISED BUT NOT NEEDING MEDICAL TREATMENT TO OUR KNOWLEDGE (AT THIS POINT) THERE ARE TWO RECALLS REGARDING MISFUNCTIONING AIRBAGS ON OUR VEHICLE BUT THE REMEDY IS NOT YET AVAILABLE :-(

ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 124,000 MILES, AND ONLY 3 YEARS LATER, AND 25,000 MILES LATER, IT NOW NEEDS ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. NOT THE DEPENDABILITY I WAS EXPECTING. IN BOTH INSTANCES, THE SAME THING OCCURRED; ALTHOUGH IT WENT OUT ON ME A LOT FASTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND. I HEARD A GRINDING SOUND EVERY TIME I ACCELERATED, UNTIL IT FINALLY WENT OUT ON ME AND LOCKED UP BOTH TIMES. THE FIRST TIME I WAS ON A SIDE STREET, AND IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS APPROACHING RED LIGHT (AND ONLY REVERSE WORKED, SO I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE IT INTO A GAS STATION NEARBY). THE SECOND TIME WAS A BIT MORE SCARY (AND I'M PISSED OFF ABOUT THIS EVEN MORE, NOW THAT I'M READING EVERYONE ELSE'S STORY, BECAUSE I COULD'VE BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT). I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH DOWN THE FREEWAY (IN THE 3RD LANE IN) WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR BUCKED (JERKED BACK) ON ME. I IMMEDIATELY GOT OFF THE FREEWAY WITHIN 5-7 SECONDS (THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO), WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT COMPLETELY FROZE/SEIZED/LOCKED UP ON ME AND PROCEEDED TO SKID OUT ABOUT 15 FEET ALONG THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY ONLY A SECOND OR TWO AFTER GETTING OFF. THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT, THE MORE I AM THANKFUL THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER SO QUICKLY OR IT COULD'VE BEEN DISASTROUS.
