I WAS DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AT 55MPH AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING TRANSMISSION MADE LOUD NOISE AND THEN LOCKED UP, SINCE CAR IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE I HAD NO STEERING AS FRONT WHEELS LOCKED UP. CAR THEN STARTED TO GO INTO A SPIN, BUT I WAS ABLE TO FIGHT THE WHEEL AND STEER CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. IT WAS ONLY BY LUCK THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS OR TRACTOR TRAILERS ALONG SIDE OR IN BACK OF ME, AFTER ALL SAID AND DONE WITH TOWING COST AND HAVING TO RENT A CAR FOR WORK, I AM OUT $645.00 AND STILL NO CAR! I HAD TWO TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOPS LOOK AT CAR, BOTH SAID THE SAME THING THAT SOME PART CAME LOOSE IN TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYED IT, IT WOULD NEED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACE AT A COST OF $2700 -$3300 IN THE MEANTIME I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ON THAT TRANSMISSION AND WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOPS AND FROM MY OWN RESEARCH IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THE #TOYOTA COROLLA AND OTHER MODELS THAT USED THAT MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAVE HAD THE VERY SAME PROBLEMS. PLEASE DEMAND A RECALL !!! *TR

AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE UPPER CONTROL ARM WAS RUSTED AND FRACTURED OFF OF THE REAR SUSPENSION CROSS MEMBER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

THE CAR WAS PARKED AND BEING HIT & CRASHED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE BY ANOTHER CAR THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED BY ITSELF EVEN THE CAR WHICH WAS HIT FROM A DRIVER SIDE. *TR

THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE. DESPITE SEVERAL NOTICES AND A FEDERAL REMINDER TO HAVE THIS FIXED AS A CUSTOMER, TOYOTA AS A COMPANY HAS NO REMEDY AS OF YET. ALL PAPERWORK STATES "ANY AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER CAN INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE...PLEASE CONTACT ANY AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE REMEDY PERFORMED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE." AFTER MAKING THIS APPOINTMENT AND LEAVING MY CAR OVERNIGHT, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. AFTER CALLING TOYOTA, THEY SAID THAT AT THIS TIME THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO NOT ALLOW A PASSENGER TO RIDE IN YOUR CAR. THIS DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF A CAR. IF YOU HAVE NOTATED AN ISSUE AND WANT TO ALERT THE PUBLIC AND HAVE US ALL TAKE TIME OFF TO HAVE THE ISSUES FIXED, THEN WHY WASN'T THERE A "FIX" IN PLACE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THEY CAN REPLACE THE ENTIRE AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY ARE NOT WANTING TO TAKE ON THAT COST, WHICH PUTS ME AND MY FAMILY/FRIENDS IN DANGER. THIS IS ABOUT THE CURRENT URGENT AIRBAG RECALL. I WAS TOLD BY MY LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE AIRBAGS BECAUSE TOYOTA HAS NOT AUTHORIZED A FIX. ACCORDING TO THE NEWS, OPTIONS INCLUDE DISABLING THE AIRBAG OR REPLACING IT. WE LIVE IN A HUMID CLIMATE ( COLUMBIA , SC). OUR SON IS ABOUT TO START DRIVING IN DECEMBER. ON OCTOBER 22, 2014, I CONTACTED 2-OF-THE-3 TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS IN NORTHERN NEVADA (I.E., RENO TOYOTA AND CARSON CITY TOYOTA). I CONTACTED THESE DEALERSHIPS REGARDING THE AIR BAGS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING SEVERAL DEATHS AND NUMEROUS INJURIES, AS REPORTED ON 10/20/2014--10/23/2014 BY THE 3 NATIONAL NEWS CHANNELS IN RENO, NEVADA (I KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT THE TYPICAL SAFETY ISSUE ENVISIONED ON THIS WEBSITE, BUT THIS REPRESENTS A SEVERE AND LOOMING SAFETY ISSUE AS IT PERTAINS TO MY WIFE AND I). WHEN I CONTACTED THESE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS, THEY DID NOT SEEM TOO CONCERNED ABOUT THE AIR BAG ISSUES FOR MY 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA, CE SEDAN. THEY SAID THAT THE "EARLIEST DATE THAT TOYOTA COULD COMPILE A LIST OF VEHICLES THAT WOULD, OR COULD, BE RECALLED WAS AROUND DECEMBER 15, 2014." FURTHER, THE DEALERSHIPS STATED THAT "THEY COULD NOT HELP ME UNTIL THIS LIST HAD BEEN COMPILED." AS I STATED PREVIOUSLY, THE DEALERSHIPS DID NOT SEEM TOO CONCERNED ABOUT MY AIRBAG ISSUES. THEY SAID TO "CHECK BACK AT AROUND THAT TIME (I.E., 12/15/2014). I ASKED THEM IF THEY HAD A RECOMMENDATION UNTIL THAT TIME, AND THEY SAID "NO!!!" I FOUND THESE ANSWERS TO BE UNACCEPTABLE, AND I TOLD THEM SO; HOWEVER, THAT WAS ALL THAT THEY COULD TELL ME!!. I THOUGHT IT PRUDENT TO CONTACT THE NHTSA WEBSITE ASAP TO LET YOU KNOW HOW CONCERNED THE TOYOTA DEALERS ARE AS IT PERTAINS TO THESE SAFETY ISSUES. *TR

TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE BRAKES FAILED CAUSING THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO TEN VEHICLES AND INTO A CONCRETE WALL WHERE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED WHIPLASH INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK INCLUDING NUMEROUS HEMATOMAS ON THE WAIST THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. DJR
IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR FOR THIS RECALL AND TOYOTA JUST KEEPS TELLING ME THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS. THEIR ANSWER IS JUST "DON'T LET ANYONE RIDE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE". THAT'S RIDICULOUS.
I WAS DRIVING TO GO TO SCHOOL AND I NOTICED MY ENGINE MAKING A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL DUE A RING OR RINGS TORN UP. ONE MECHANICS MENTIONED THAT HE HAS HAD SEVERAL COROLLAS 2003 COMING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOW I AM STUCK WITH A CAR THAT BURNS A LOT OF OIL AND THE ENGINE IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. *TR

THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DASH AND I WAS TOLD THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAD TO PAY $1196.69 BECAUSE IT WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAD 3 OTHER RECALLS WHICH INCLUDED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG INFLATOR, AIR BAG WIRE HARNESS AND THE CENTER AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. SO WITH ALL THE SAFETY RECALLS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SYSTEM, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE DRIVER AIR BAG IS NOT COVERED ON ANY SAFETY RECALL? I REALLY THINK THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL SINCE I WAS TOLD BY THE REP AT THE TOYOTA DEALER THE AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK WHEN THIS AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON.
OUR TOYOTA COROLLA HAS 2 SAFETY RECALLS FOR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. ONE RECALL HAS BEEN DONE, BUT THE OTHER ONE WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PARTS. AFTER ONE RECALL WAS DONE THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON SHOWING A CODE B1811 FOR SPIRAL CABLE. I WAS TOLD THAT PART IS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT MEANS THE DRIVER AIRBAG IS DEACTIVATED. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SPIRAL CABLE WITH OTHER COROLLA'S BUT NOT FOR 2003. OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEMS SO CAN NHTSA PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THIS VEHICLE IS MY 17 YEAR OLDS CAR AND I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT HIS SAFETY. THANK YOU *TR
OUR TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS. THE DEALER INSTALLED A HARNESS AND ECM. WHEN THEY RECHECKED THE SRS SYSTEM THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON FOR B1811 FOR SPIRAL CABLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS REPAIR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL BUT THAT MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG IS NOT WORKING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE IS PART OF A RECALL WITH OTHER TOYOTAS BUT NOT THE SAME YEAR AS MINE. OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THESE AIRBAGS AND I'M WONDERING WHY MY TOYOTA IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL? I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ESPECIALLY SINCE MY 17 YEAR OLD SON IS NOW DRIVING THE VEHICLE! THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR US!
MANY MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG MODULATOR. I'VE TRIED MANY TIMES TO SCHEDULE THIS REPAIR AND EACH TIME I GET THE SAME ANSWER: THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET IT. THEIR ONLY SUGGESTION IS NOT TO USE THE CAR. HOW IN THE WORLD IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?????? HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS?

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V312000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PART WOULD NOT BECOME AVAILABLE FOR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

VEHICLE WAS SLOWING TO MAKE A TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY AND WAS STRUCK FROM THE REAR BY A TRUCK, SUSTAINING HEAVY DISABLING DAMAGE TO THE REAR BUMPER AND TRUNK. VEHICLE WAS FORCED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY BY THE INITIAL COLLISION, CROSSED THE DRIVEWAY, HIT A STOP SIGN, AND FINALLY HIT A BRICK AND PLASTIC CITY SERVICE CENTER SIGN, TOPPLING IT COMPLETELY. DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE FRONT END COLLISION WITH THE STOP SIGN OR THE BRICK STRUCTURE. DRIVER WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TO WORK, DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70-75 MPH, I STARTED TO BRAKE. INSTEAD OF DECREASING IN SPEED, MY CAR ACCELERATED AND EVERYTIME I WOULD PUSH THE BRAKE, MY CAR WOULD INCREASE IN SPEED (UNINTENDED ACCELERATION). WITHIN THE SPAN OF ABOUT 3 MONTHS, THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED A TOTAL OF 5-6 TIMES, MAKING IT VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *JS
I WAS DRIVING MY FATHER'S CAR. AFTER DRIVING CAR APPROX.14 MILES HOME FROM A RESTAURANT, I PARKED IT IN THE CARPORT. LESS THAN 15 MIN LATER I HEARD AN EXPLOSION AND SAW THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND SMOKE WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. A CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS BLOWN AND FLAMES WERE SEEN UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT SOON FOLLOWED BY FLAMES COMING OUT THE TOPSIDE OF THE HOOD. AFTER REALIZING IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. ON AUGUST 18, 2014 MY WIFE AND SON WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN CHARLOTTE NC. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. NEITHER HER DRIVER NOR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. AS A RESULT HER HEAD STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND SHE SUFFERED A FRACTURED STERNUM, WHICH I ASSUME WAS CAUSED BY THE SEAT BELT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA S WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IN NOVEMBER 2011, THE BEARINGS IN MY TRANSMISSION FAILED ON A LONG TRIP AT JUST OVER 93,000 MILES. THE FAILURE IN THE BEARINGS DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION AND DISABLED MY CAR ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP WHERE I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION FROM THE LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER. IT WAS INSTALLED, AS WELL AS A NEW CLUTCH. I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT ON YOUR WEBSITE PREVIOUSLY. THIS LAST MONTH, MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO GRIND GOING INTO 3RD GEAR. I BOUGHT IT IN TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. IT WILL EITHER NEED TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT EVEN 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS JUST ABOUT 21,000 MILES ON IT. TOYOTA WILL NOT WARRANTY IT. THEIR COVERAGE IS FOR ONE YEAR, UNLIMITED MILEAGE. A NEW CAR WITH A NEW TRANSMISSION IS COVERED FOR 5 YEARS/60,000 MILES. THERE IS NO REASON THIS TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE FAILED. I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF MY CAR AND HAD HOPED TO DRIVE IT FOR 20+ YEARS. I HAVE HAD ROUTINE SERVICE PERFORMED ON IT AND MOSTLY DRIVE MY CAR ON LONG TRIPS AS I RIDE TO WORK MOST DAYS. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THAT THESE ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH MY CAR ARE VERY COMMON FOR MY MODEL CAR WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. TOYOTA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SIMPLY BECAUSE THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF CARS THEY SELL IN THE US ARE AUTOMATICS SO ISSUES WITH MANUALS CAN BE IGNORED. THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR PRODUCING A TRANSMISSION THAT CAN'T EVEN HOLD UP TO AN INDUSTRY STANDARD WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION FAILURES ARE DANGEROUS IS IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT TOYOTA CONTINUES TO GET AWAY WITH NOT COMING UP WITH A REPAIR THAT PREVENTS THIS FROM HAPPENING. *TR

TOYOTA AIRBAGS WERE IDENTIFIED AS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN BAGS DEPLOY THEY COULD RELEASE METAL SHRAPNEL. THE PROBLEM IDENTIFIED IN 2014 AND TOYOTA CANNOT GET PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY RECOMMEND NO ONE TRAVEL IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CAR UNTIL THE FIX CAN BE MADE. NOT USING THE FRONT SEAT ( 25% OF THE CAPACITY OF THE VEHICLE ) FOR OVER A YEAR ( AND NO KNOWN DATE FOR A FIX SO THIS COULD GO FOR SEVERAL YEARS ) IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I ALSO SUGGESTED THE DISCONNECT THE AIRBAG SO I COULD USE THE SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT AND THE DEALER WOULD NOT DO. ( MARK MOTORS, STEVENS POINT, WI ). THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE AS I MAY AS WELL PARK THE CAR IF 25% OF SEATING CAPACITY CANNOT BE USED DUE TO TOYOTA'S NEGLIGENCE.
