DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PLACING THE ENGINE INTO DRIVE, THE ENGINE REVVED HIGH AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WHEN THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A BRICK GARAGE WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT WITH ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE GARAGE. THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED SINCE THIS HAPPENED ON PRIVATE PROPERTY. THE VEHICLE REMAINS AT THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT AND HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WOULD NOT LOCK IN PLACE WHEN ADJUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO MADE AN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE FAILURE BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BRACKET. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE AGE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE SEAT WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
DROVE CAR TO WORK ON DAY OF ACCIDENT WITH NO INCIDENTS. PARKED VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS THEN DROVE IT AGAIN FOR ABOUT 1 HALF HOUR THEN PARK. AT 5:00 P.M. LEFT THE OFFICE TO GO HOME. ON THE WAY HOME I MADE TOW STOPS, ONE AT THE POST OFFICE AND ANOTHER AT MY SISTER'S HOUSE. UPON LEAVING MY SISTER'S, I PROCEED TO GO UP HILL. WHEN I GOT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL I PROCEEDED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN LOW GEAR AS I AM ACCOUSTOMED TO WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL WHICH I WAS ABOUT TO DO. AS I PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, IT ACCELERATED TO TOP SPEED GOING DOWN THE HILL. I LOOKED DOWN TO MAKE SURE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL...IT WAS. THE VEHICLE BEGAN RACING DOWN HILL. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES BUT IT DID NOT HOLD. I DECIDED TO TRY TO STEADY THE VEHICLE WITH BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AS I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE TO NO AVAIL. I CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE BOUNCED FROM SIDE TO SIDE THEN HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND BECOME AIRBORNE. THE VEHICLE DROPPED IN A DITCH BOUNCED AGAIN THEN CRASHED INTO A DIRT EMBANKMENT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET AT WHICH TIME BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. ON JANUARY 6, 2006 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER HERE ON ISLAND FOR FULL SERVICE. THE FRONT BRAKES WERE CHANGED AS INDICATED ON MY WORK ORDER AND THE BACK BRAKES WERE CLEANED AND ADJUSTED. ON MARCH 6, 2006, I WENT IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO REPORT THE ACCIDENT DESCRIBING WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I ASKED WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THEY TOLD ME THEY DID NOT KNOW AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE A SPECIALIST FROM PUERTO RICO FLY IN TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM. *NM
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 COROLLA THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE TURNED IN FRONT OF ME. WE COLLIDED. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH BEFORE I STARTED BRAKING A COUPLE MOMENTS BEFORE IMPACT, SO I IMAGINE I WAS GOING AT LEAST 30-35 AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT LEFT CORNER OF MY VEHICLE; IT WAS UNDRIVEABLE AFTER. COMPLAINT: NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED IN MY COROLLA! THE OTHER CAR WAS GOING LESS THAN 10 MPH WHEN OUR CARS COLLIDED, BUT HER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE TOYOTA WEBSITE SAYS THAT AIRBAGS WON'T DEPLOY UNLESS IT IS A "SEVERE FRONTAL COLLISION". WHAT QUALIFIES AS "SEVERE"? NO RESPONSE YET FROM TOYOTA DEALER.
MY CAR HAS BEEN MAKING A LOUD NOISE, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING OVER 40 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THE CAR NEEDS A REPLACED REAR WHEEL, BEARING, AND HUB. MY CAR IS A 2004 WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES. I'VE SEEN THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2002 COROLLAS WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. ON DEC. 24, 2005 THE STEERING PULLED AWAY TO THE NEXT LANE CAUSING IT TO HYDROPLANE. IT SEEMS LIKE A GHOST JUST TAKES OVER THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THANK GOD NO DEATHS. AFTER THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, I CONTINUED DRIVING IT. IN 2006, THE WHEEL CONTINUED TO SWIFT TO THE NEXT LANE, LIKE IT'S PULLING AWAY FROM YOU. IF YOU ARE NOT GRIPPING THE WHEEL TIGHTLY, THE CAR WILL JUMP INTO THE NEXT LANE. I ALWAYS MAKE SURE NO ONE IS DRIVING IN THE NEXT LANE IN CASE THE CAR STARTS PULLING. I HAD THE CAR INSPECTED, BUT TOYOTA SAID NOTHING IS WRONG TO MAKE SURE I GET MY WHEEL ALIGNMENTS. I TOLD THEM I ALWAYS GET WHEEL ALIGNMENTS AND TIRES CHANGED OFTEN SINCE I DRIVE ALOT. THE PROBLEM OCCURS MOSTLY WHEN YOU ACCELERATE SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 40 MPH WHILE GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE. ALSO THE STEERING WHEELS JUMPS TO THE NEXT LANE ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS HIGHLY WINDY ON THE INTERSTATE AND RAINING. WHEEL ALIGNMENTS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WHEN I GOT ONE DONE IN 2008, THE PROBLEM HAPPENED RIGHT WHEN I PULLED OUT FROM GETTING AN ALIGNMENT. THE PROBLEM ALSO OCCURS IN WINDY CONDITIONS WHEN TRAVELING OVER BRIDGES OR HIGH ALTITUDES. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES UNTIL THIS DAY IN 2010. *TR
WHEN PARKING THE CAR THE CAR ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I LOOKED DOWN TO MAKE SURE MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS - MY FOOT WAS PLANTED ON THE BRAKE. I HAD TO BRAKE AS HARD AS A I COULD TO KEEP THE CAR FROM REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT AS THE ENGINE ALL ON ITS OWN DRAGGED THE CAR FORWARD. THE CAR WAS MOVING AT ABOUT TWO MILES AN HOUR WHEN THIS TOOK PLACE. THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4000 RPMS WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE GAS AND SIMPLY DRAGGED THE CAR FORWARD. *JB
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MY 2004 COROLLA-S. HE HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET FOR 75 MPH. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE SPEEDOMETER BECAUSE IT SEEMED HE WAS SPEEDING UP AND NOTICED THE SPEED AT 90 MPH. HE COULDN'T TAKE IT OFF CRUISE CONTROL SO HE HIT THE BRAKES AND A SHORTLY AFTER THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT CAME OFF. WE DID START SLOWING DOWN WHEN HE USED THE BRAKES. *JB
I WAS DRIVING A TOYOTA 2004 COROLLA ON THE HIGHWAY @ 60 MPH. ALL THE CAR WINDOWS WERE OPEN. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS/TRUCKS NEAR THE CAR. I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE WINDOWS. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WENT UP TO APPROX. 6" FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDOW AND STOPPED. I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO TURN IT DOWN. THE WINDOW RETURNED DOWN. I AGAIN PUSHED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE WINDOW. AS THE WINDOW WAS RAISED TO APPRROX 6" FROM THE TOP, THE GLASS EXPLODED. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GIVE A REASON FOR THE OCCURRENCE. THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED. I AM AFRAID TO TOUCH THE WINDOW AS WHEN THE GLASS EXPLODED, MY HAND WAS CUT, SOME OF THE GLASS WAS IN MY LAP. I WAS WEARING SUNGLASSES WHICH I THINK PROVIDED SOME PROTECTION. WHEN I SAW THE BACK OF THE CAR THERE WAS GLASS ON THE FLOOR AND BACK SEAT. FORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T PANIC WHEN THE GLASS EXPLODED. I AM FRIGHTENED TO THINK OF THE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES IF I DID. ARE THERE ANY REASONS FOR THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE? THERE WASN'T ANY UNUSUAL SOUND WHEN I PUSHED THE WINDOW BUTTONS. IS THERE A PROBLEM W THE TOYOTA 2004 COROLLA? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. SHE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE MILEAGE WAS 40,000, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT DRIVE NORMALLY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER ALIGNED THE VEHICLE, REPLACED THE TIRES, TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THE STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CORRECTED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. SHE ALSO TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE PEP BOYS FOR AN ALIGNMENT AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR SUDDENLY SWERVED/VEERED AND I HAD TO FIGHT FOR CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I BARELY AVOIDED HAVING AN ACCIDENT. IT HAD RAINED THE NIGHT BEFORE BUT WAS NOT RAINING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN JANUARY 2004. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED, IT WAS A SUNNY DAY THIS SUMMER. I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND AGAIN DRIVING STRAIGHT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SWERVED. I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN THE SPRING OF 2004, A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD JUST COMPLETED A LANE SWITCH AND WAS GOING STRAIGHT WHEN THE CAR SWERVED/VEERED. I ALMOST COLLIDED WITH THE MEDIAN. AFTER THIS THIRD OCCURRENCE, I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND BROUGHT IT IN. AFTER A 5 MINUTE ROAD TEST, THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM I WAS DESCRIBING. THE DEALER TOLD ME IF I WANTED TO PAY FOR AN INSPECTION, THEY CAN FURTHER INSPECT THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. I ASKED THEM TO GO AHEAD BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER JUST CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT AFTER A 15 MINUTE INSPECTION, THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. MY PROBLEM IS SIMILAR TO THAT IN COMPLAINT #10127778. PLEASE LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. *JB
DT: WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE AT 50 MPH ON SMOOTH ROAD THERE WAS A HISSING COMING FROM THE SUN ROOF. THE GLASS FROM THE SUN ROOF FLEW OFF, AND THE CONSUMER SAW THE GLASS BEHIND THE CAR IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR.T HE SUN ROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME WHEN IT FLEW OFF. THE GLASS CAME OFF IN ONE PIECE AND THEN BROKE ON THE GROUND. THEN, THE OWNER PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT THE SUN ROOF. HE TOOK THE CAR HOME, THEN TO THE CAR TO DEALER . THE CONSUMER WAS UNSURE WHAT CAUSED IT, AND THE DEALERSHIP HASN'T TOLD THE CONSUMER THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP WILL REPLACE THE SUN ROOF. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH CAR BUT WAS UPSET WITH DEALERSHIP FOR CHARGING FOR A RENTAL CAR.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW AND IT BEGAN TO MOVE VERY SLOWLY UNTIL THE WINDOW DISLODGED FROM THE DOOR PANEL AND BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED BUT THE WINDOW WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REGULATOR FAILED. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V162000, VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
MY 2004 TOYOTA CORROLLA SEEMS TO BE STEERING IMPROPERLY. UPON TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO A STRAIGHT POSITION THE WHOLE CAR SEEMS TO SWERVE AND BECOME ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE. I HAVE JUST BARELY AVOIDED SERVERAL ACCIDENTS AND IN WET CONDTIONS THE PROBLEM IS WORSE. I REPLACED THE TIRES AND HAD THEM CHECK THE ALIGNMENT ON THE VEHICLE AND IT STILL CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE HAD AT LEAST FOUR OTHER PERSONS DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THEY ALL HAVE COMMENTED ON THE STEERING/CONTROL PROBLEM EVEN PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE NOTICE THE PROBLEM AS YOU CAN FEEL IT WHILE DRIVING OR RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. MY DEALER ALSO STATES THEY DID NOT SEE ANY BROKEN OR LOOSE PARTS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE CONTROL PROBLEM.
MY 2004 COROLLA LE IS THE FIRST VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED THAT HAS CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN I AM DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, IT HOLDS A STEADY SPEED. WHEN THE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS AN INCLINE, SUCH AS A BRIDGE OR A HILL, IT WILL DOWNSHIFT AND CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE WELL BEYOND THE SPEED SET. EVERY INSTANCE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SIMPLY DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL WITHIN 5 TO 10 MPH ABOVE THE SET SPEED, BUT IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE AS LONG AS IT WAS ON THE INCLINE. THINKING THIS IS HOW CRUISE CONTROL WORKED, NOT HAVING USED IT BEFORE, I NEVER TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND SIMPLY TURN IT OFF WHEN ENCOUNTERING AN INCLINE.. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT TOYOTA ACCELERATION ISSUES, I THOUGHT THIS INFORMATION WOULD BE USEFUL TO NHTSA. *TR
I WAS BRAKING FOR A STOPLIGHT. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE WITH THE RPMS RISING ABOVE 4000 BEFORE I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I HAD TO PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO HOLD THE CAR AT THE INTERSECTION. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAD HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS EARLIER. DURING THAT INCIDENT, THE ENGINE RACED TO OVER 6,000 RPMS BEFORE I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. AFTER BOTH INCIDENTS, I TOOK THE CAR TO LITHIA TOYOTA IN REDDING, CA. BOTH TIMES THEY SAID THAT NO ERROR CODES WERE SET AND SINCE THE CAR ENGINE DID NOT RACE DURING THE TEST DRIVES, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY STATED THA THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANY OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES BEHAVING IN THIS MANNER, YET I FOUND 25 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2004 CAMRY ON THIS WEBSITE, AND 21 SUCH COMPLAINTS FOR 2002 THROUGH 2005 MODEL YEAR COROLLAS.
MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA SURGES FOR 1-2 SECONDS WHILE AT STOP OR RED LIGHT. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO TAKE OFF BY ITSELF. THIS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN IN WARM WEATHER THAN COLD WEATHER. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEAR AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME IT IS NORMAL. THIS CAN BE OVER ALL SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
WINDSHIELD IS VERY SUSCEPTABLE TO CRACKS. ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD WAS HIT WITH A VERY SMALL PEBBLE WHILE DRIVING AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS (40-45MPH). IMMEDIATELY A CRACK TRAVELED ACROSS THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD. ONE WEEK LATER, THE SAME INSTANCE OCCURRED AND A SMALL PEBBLE CREATED A SPIDER WEB-LIKE CRACK.
THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.
A VEHICLE MADE A LEFT TURN ACROSS THE HIGHWAY IN FRONT OF ME. MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALED FROM THE IMPACT TO THE FRONT LEFT. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN EUGENE OREGON WHEN I PULLED MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR FAILED TO DECELERATE. I PUMPED THE ACCELERATOR TO NO EFFECT. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE ACCELERATOR AND SAW THE FLOOR MAT WEDGED UNDER THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE MAT OUT AND SLOW THE CAR DOWN. LATER IN INSPECTING THE MAT, I SAW FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT THERE WERE TWO HOOKS DESIGNED TO HOLD THE MAT IN PLACE. ONE OF THE HOOKS HAD BECOME DISENGAGED CAUSING THE MAT TO MOVE AND BECOME LODGED FIRMLY BENEATH THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD BEEN FORTUNATE IN AVOIDING AND ACCIDENT. YEARS LATER THE MAT RECALL OF OTHER TOYOTA MODELS WAS MADE. THE 2004 COROLLA WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I CONTACTED BOTH THE MAIN COMPANY AND MY LOCAL DEALER. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO PUT THE MAT IN MY TRUNK. THE COMPANY NEVER MADE A RECALL OF THIS MODEL IN SPITE OF THE ISSUE BEING IDENTICAL TO THOSE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT TOYOTA'S LACK OF ACTION EVER SINCE. AFTER HEARING WHAT HAPPENED WITH GM, I DECIDED THAT I HAD NOT NOTIFIED THE PROPER AUTHORITIES SINCE NOTHING WAS DONE. THE 2004 COROLLA SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE INITIAL RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE FLOOR MATS. TOYOTA, LIKE GM, FAILED TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. MY GIRLFRIEND HAS A 2002 TOYOTA COROLLA, AND SHE TOLD ME , AFTER I BOUGHT MINE, THAT ENGINE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON FOR NO DISCERNIBLE REASON A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. DEALER CHARGED HER FOR A PART AND LABOR ON HER NEW CAR TO FIX THE ENGINE LIGTH PROBLEM.*AK THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A KNOWN MODEL PROBLEM. WHY DOESN'T HE MANUFACTURER FIX IT BEFORE SELLING THE CAR?

AT FIRST I NOTICED THE GAS TANK WOULD NOT FILL PROPERLY. I THOUGHT IT WAS NOT VENTING PROPERLY, BUT I HAD A TECHNICIAN CHECK IT OVER. EVENTUALLY, THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILL GAUGE (TO NO AVAIL, MIGHT I ADD). THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, AND I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AGAIN. FINALLY, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CHARCOAL FILTER. UNFORTUNATELY, I REPORTED THE INCIDENT BEFORE MY WARRANTY WAS UP, BUT THE DEALER'S SERVICE STATION DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO LOOK AT IT UNTIL AFTERWARDS. ALL IN ALL, BETWEEN SERVICE AND PARTS, THIS HAS COST ME ABOUT $500. THE OLD PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, AND I WILL SEE TOMORROW MORNING IF THIS CHARCOAL FILTER MALFUNCTION IS REALLY THE PROBLEM. I IMAGINE IT IS, SINCE I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEM ON THE NEWER COROLLAS.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V312000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON THE 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA STARTED EMITTING A SULFUR DIOXIDE ODOR.*MR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED BUT THE SMELL PERSISTED. THE VENT FLAP IN THE TRUNK WAS ALSO REPLACED BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP EITHER. *NM THE CONSUMER STATED A SECOND SMELL WAS PRESENT WHICH SMELLED LIKE ASH OR SMOKE. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE SECOND SMELL AND THEY ALSO RECOMMENDED THE CONSUMER CHANGED GAS BECAUSE THERE WAS HIGH SULFUR IN THE GAS. *JB

CONSUMER THEN TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS WHICH FLASHED QUICKLY THEN TURNED OFF. FOUL EGG/SULFUR SMELL WHILE CAR IS OPERATING. SMELL IS NOTICEABLE IN THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF CAR. AT TIMES, THIS SMELL IS SO STRONG THAT I BEGIN TO FEEL ILL. RETURNED TO DEALER. DEALER INSTRUCTED ME TO TRY DIFFERENT GASOLINES. THIS DID NOT WORK. RETURNED TO DEALER. REPEATEDLY SPOKE WITH SERVICE MANAGER, ETC. THE SUGGESTION TO CHANGE GASOLINE WAS ALL THE DEALER COULD OFFER. THIS HAS NOT WORKED AND I'M CONCERNED THAT THE SULFUR SMELL MAY BE CAUSING A HEALTH PROBLEM.

THE CAR WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, AND BOTH MY HUSBAND, JOY JOSEPH AND I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT THE HEAD RESTS FOR THE BACK SEATS WERE MISSING. WHEN WE FOUND THAT WE BROGHT THIS TO THE DEALER'S ATTENTION. THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO GET US TWO HEAD RESTS FOR THE BACK. MY HUSBAND WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AS WE STILL HAVE THE FULL WARRANTY FROM TOYOTA, AND THEY ARE ALSO NOT WILLING TO PROVIDE US WITH THE HEAD RESTS. I WAS DRIVING ON I-75 ON THE SOUTHBOUND SIDE IN WILDWOOD FLORIDA, ON A DRY SUNNY DAY - THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL, AFTER I MOVED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH A CAR INCOMING FROM MY RIGHT SIDE - THERE WAS SMALL CONTACT BY THE UNKNOWN VEHICLE, WHICH CONTINUED. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER OUT OF THE PROBLEM, AT FIRST, AND THE CAR WENT TO THE LEFT SIDE PARKING STRIP. WHEN I TAPPED THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR, IT DID NOT LOSE SPEED. I BEGAN TO STEER OUT OF LEFT LANE, ONTO THE HIGHWAY, BUT THEN WHILE I WAS STEERING RIGHT, THE CAR STEERED ITSELF TO THE LEFT. I AM CERTAIN THAT THE CAR FAILED TO ALLOW THE CRUISE CONTROL TO RELEASE. I REPORTED ALL OF THIS AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THIS WAS IGNORED BY TOYOTA. THE REPORTS OF THE PROBLEM USING THE LEMON LAW WERE ALSO DENIED, AND TOYOTA WOULD NOT SUPPORT ME WHEN I MADE CONTACT WITH THEM ON SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, BETWEEN APRIL 2004 (ON PURCHASE) AND THE INCIDENT. THE SERVICE MANAGERS AT GATORLAND TOYOTA REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS IN OCALA, FLORIDA. THE OWNER OF THAT DEALERSHIP ALSO REFUSED TO LISTEN WHEN I WROTE AND SPOKE TO HIM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THAT DEALERSHIP. IT WAS A VIBRATION AND STEERING PROBLEM THAT I REPORTED, HOWEVER, I BELIEVED AT TIME, THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE HELD THE DEALER (DELUCA, IN OCALA FLORIDA) INSTALLED CRUISE CONTROL THAT MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED. THE ALL REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM. THE CLAIMED TO HAVE ALIGNED THE FRONT END & BALANCED TIRES (A VIBRATION ISSUE). NO CHANGE. THEY THEN REFUSED. *TR
