A 205/55/R16 tire exploded when I was driving on the freeway at 9:15 am. I had driven less than 3 miles. The tire that exploded had less than 16,000 miles. I didn't run over an object or I would have also punctured my front tire too. At the time of the explosion I didn't know what happened, but heard a loud noise that I thought was from a car next to me. Once both cars moved ahead of me, I realized the loud noise was coming from under my car. I then was able to pull to the side of the freeway. Once I pulled over I saw the tire had exploded. I took photos of the tire and took both parts to the tire shop where my tires are under warranty. I had inspected my tires the prior Monday, two days prior and didn't see an issue with any of the tires. I've never had a tire blowout before. The tire shop threw the tire away even though I asked for a report of the incident to appropriate entities. The tire shop told me the tire was under inflated or that I hit a road hazard but couldn't prove that's what caused the explosion. Also the tire shop did not show me where a road hazard penetrated the tire. In the past if a tire had run over an object this tire shop would show me the object. I have 3 of the same tires on my car which I don't trust because my tire exploded without warning.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING AND MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LUG NUTS HAD BECOME LOOSE AND RECOMMENDED THE WHEELS BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE SURPASSED THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
WATCHED 20/20 MAY 9TH 2008 ABOUT HOW TO CHECK FOR PRODUCTION DATE ON TIRES. CHECKED DATE ON TIRES MAY 10TH 2008. DATE IS REMOVED OR BUFFED OFF OF TWO FRONT TIRES! THE CIRCLE WHERE THE NUMBERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IS STILL ON THE TIRE BUT THE DATE HAS BEEN REMOVED. TWO FRONT TIRES WERE BOUGHT APRIL 22ND 2008. (I STILL HAVE THE RECEIPT). *TR
I STARTED HEARING A HUMMING, VIBRATION NOISE COMING FROM MY WHEELS IN NOVEMBER 2007. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARINGS ON THE R/F. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AND AGAIN... JANUARY 2008 - L/F WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED. JUNE 2008 - R/F WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED. MARCH 2009 - R/F WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED. THE NOISE GETS WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND MAKES ME VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. *TR

TOOK MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA LE TO DEALER WITH COMPLAINT OF STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT 60-70 MPH. DEALER STATED THAT I NEEDED SPACERS (RINGS) INSTALLED ON MY WHEELS (WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I ORDERED THE OPTION OF ALLOY WHEELS AND APPARENTLY THE DEALER NEVER INSTALLED THEM TO FIT PROPERLY.*AK

WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. GOODYEAR#P18565R15. *JB GOODYEAR SAID THAT THE INCIDENT WAS THE CONSUMER'S FAULT. *LA
