HEAT SHIELD HANGER ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NOW HEAT SHIELD VIBRATES AGAINST EXHAUST PIPE MAKING TERRIBLE NOISE. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AS RESEARCHED ON THE NET. TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIX THIS FREE. *TR
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE COMPUTER ECU UNIT FAILED. MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE COLLISION FOR SOME BODY WORK REPAIRS. THE BODY SHOP CALLED TO INFORM US THAT THEY COULDN'T COMPLETE THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I CALLED AAA WHO TOWED THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA. AFTER THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THE TECHNICIAN MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE ECU UNIT FAILED AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAD TO PAY $725.74 AND PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AGAIN REPLACED THE ECU UNIT. TOYOTA REPLACED THE INITIAL ECU ON AUGUST 25, 2008 ( I FILED A SEPARATE COMPLAINT) UNDER WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED TO TOYOTA THAT A COMPUTER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT ALL AND OUT OF ALL THE 7 CARS I'VE OWNED OVER THE PASS 40 YEARS THIS IS THE FIRST CAR THAT EVER HAD SO MANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. TOYOTA CLAIMED THAT THE ECU COMPUTERS DON'T LAST VERY LONG AND NEED TO BE REPLACED ABOUT EVERY 4 YEARS. I DON'T BELIEVE THESE ECU ARE QUALITY UNITS AND ARE DEFECTIVE. I'M HOPING TO GET MY MONEY REFUNDED. *JS
THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. AT 50,000 MILES I'VE GONE THROUGH TWO SETS OF TIRES AND ABOUT REPLACE MY THIRD SET. THERE ARE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM MANY OTHERS ON SEVERAL FORUMS LIKE: HTTP://WWW.FAQS.ORG/CAR/TOYOTA-MATRIX-2006/SUSPENSION/ AND HTTP://TOWNHALL-TALK.EDMUNDS.COM/DIRECT/VIEW/.F0EEECE/145 THAT SUGGEST THERE IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT IN THE SUSPENSION THAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS SYMPTOM. I WILL BE DISCUSSING THIS WITH MY LOCAL DEALER AND POSSIBLY A LAWYER SHOULD IT COME TO THAT. I DID, HOWEVER, WANT TO WRITE A REPORT IN THE MEAN TIME DOCUMENTING THE SITUATION FOR THE RECORD. *JB
WHILE PARKED IN AN OPEN PARKING LOT AT MY VFW POST, THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE AND, EVENTUALLY, WENT UP IN FLAMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA MATRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AND STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,100.
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT, APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND IT STOPPED. LATER, I PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND IT ACCELERATED FORWARD. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND IT STOPPED. I WAS DRIVING AROUND STEEP HILLS, WHICH I DON'T DO A LOT. I WONDER IF THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT? *TR
SCHOOL BUS DROVE ACROSS A FOUR LANE DIVIDED ROAD AND MY DAUGHTER RAN INTO THE SCHOOL BUS, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND TURNED TO THE RIGHT AND HIT THE BUS. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. INJURIES ARE SORENESS IN SHOULDER AND NECK. GRANDDAUGHTER AGE 3 WAS TRAUMATIZED OVER THE CRASH. SCHOOL BUS DRIVER WAS TICKETED. *TR
I WAS RETURNING HOME LAST WEEK ON I-40 IN TN. I WAS GOING UP A GRADE WITH VEHICLES ALL AROUND ME WHEN MY TRANSMISSION BLEW. I INSTANTLY LOST POWER AND WENT FROM 70 TO 50 IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. LUCKILY I WASN'T HIT AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. AFTER TOWING THE CAR HOME I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR OF MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS FROM OTHER MATRIX OWNERS. APPARENTLY THERE ARE FAULTY BEARINGS TO BLAME FOR COUNTLESS TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON CARS WITH ALARMINGLY LOW MILEAGE. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECONCILE WITH ITS CUSTOMERS AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, FIX BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *JS
HAD PASSENGER AIRBAG REPLACED VIA THE FIRST RECALL AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER (I-10 TOYOTA IN INDIO). WHEN THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE REPAIR PERSON AND I WAS TOLD THE LIGHT WAS FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE OTHER AIRBAG AND I WOULD HAVE TO SPEND $150 TO GET IT FIXED. SCAM! I DID NOT GET IT FIXED SO NOW I'M DRIVING AROUND WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON, NOT KNOWING IF OR WHEN IT WILL EXPLODE. THIS SHOULD BE TAKATA'S EXPENSE, NOT MINE.
I WAS DRIVING ON FLORIDA'S TURNPIKE NB AT 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY, MY STEERING WHEEL FELT DISCONNECTED FROM THE TIRES. THE CAR STARTED TO FISHTAIL, AND I WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE. THE MECHANICAL ISSUE WAS LATER IDENTIFIED AS FAILED A TIE ROD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THE WIRING WAS BURNED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT, AND TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID NOT REPORT TO THE SCENE AND THE FIRE WENT OUT ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND SEAT. THE WIRING IN THE DOOR WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE EXACT REPAIR HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THE CAR WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS, IN ADDITION TO THE STEERING AND PASSENGER DASH. THE IMPACT COVERED FROM THE DRIVERS DOOR AND THE ENTIRE FRONT FENDER. THE ONLY AIR BAGS THAT DEPLOYED WERE THE STEERING AND DASH. THE SIDE CURTAINS DID NOT, RESULTING IN HEAD INJURY TO A 16 YEAR OLD THAT WAS THE DRIVER. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH THESE SAFETY FEATURES EXPECTING IT TO WORK AS INTENDED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY, AND WHAT IS GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT IT.IF I DON'T RECEIVE A PROPER RESPONSE.I WILL SEEK LEGAL SUPPORT. THANK YOU! *TR
TAKATA RECALL AIR BAG DASHBOARD LIGHT ON BUT AIR BAGS HAVE NOT DEPLOYED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH TURNS ON AND OFF SYSTEM SAYS PROBLEM WITH FUEL INJECT HEAD LIGHTS WIRE KEEPS BURNING OUT.
THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED @. WALMART RTE 6 NORTH DARTMOUTH,MA ,PARKING LOT. I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR SPED UP WENT OVER AND ACROSS A 4 FOOT ISLAND WITH SHRUBS AND ON TOP OF THE HOOD OF ANOTHER COROLLA. *TR
AC CONDENSER STATED LEAKING ON 12/18/2011. STEAM WAS COMING OUT OF FRONT OF THE CAR AS IT WAS PARKED AT A STORE. I NOTICED THIS WHEN I WAS EXITING THE STORE. TWO GARAGES CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE CONDENSER. I WENT TO DO RESEARCH ON THE CONDENSER ONLINE AND THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT DEFECTIVE CONDENSERS ON THE 2005 AND 2006 COROLLA APPEARED ON THE WEB. PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED ON THE 2007 AND AFTER COROLLA. CONDENSER HAS TO PROTECTION. COULD HAVE THE CONDENSER REPLACED TODAY AND BECAUSE OF NO PROTECTION, THE PROBLEM COULD HAPPEN AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. VERY POOR DESIGN...THIS LEAVES THE OWNERS OF 2005 AND 2006 COROLLAS OUT IN THE COLD! WHY NO RECALL??? ONE OF THE GARAGES THAT I WENT TO WAY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP...THEY WANT $735 (ESTIMATE) TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT WAS POOR DESIGN! I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR HEIR MISTAKE! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED MOVING FORWARD UNTIL CRASHING INTO A PATIO. THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THE VEHICLE ALSO CRASHED INTO A PRIVATE BUILDING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUFFERED DURING EITHER CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,500.
MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA WAS ON A RECALL LIST FOR THE ECM. I WAS WATCHING THE CAR'S BEHAVIOR CLOSELY FOR WARNING SIGNS/ PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE ECM. SURPRISINGLY INSTEAD OF PROBLEMS STARTING,HARSH SHIFTING OR STOPPING WHILE DRIVING (ALL LISTED AS POSSIBLE "SYMPTOMS" OF ECM ISSUES)- THE OPPOSITE PROBLEM OCCURRED. MY CAR TRIED TO ACCELERATE WHEN STOPPED! WHEN FULLY STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS/STOP SIGNS, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL,ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY CAR ENGINE REVVED AND THE CAR TRIED TO ACCELERATE.I QUICKLY PUSHED DOWN EVEN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STAY STOPPED AND NOT CRASH INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR GO THE INTERSECTION. OTHER INSTANCES OCCURRED WHEN PARKING AFTER A SHORT DRIVE DOING ERRANDS. AGAIN,THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE STOPPED,PREPARING TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK... AND ONCE AGAIN I HAD TO HOLD IT WITH THE BRAKE.THESE"BEHAVIORS" HAPPENED SO FREQUENTLY THAT I FINALLY RESORTED TO PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO BE SAFE WHEN I WAS STOPPED. I ALSO REMEMBERED FROM NEWS REPORTS THAT CAR MATS COULD POSSIBLY SHIFT AND INTERFERE WITH PEDALS SO I HAD REMOVED MY MATS(ORIGINAL MATS ATTACHED TO HOOKS) TO ENSURE THEY COULD NOT BE AN ISSUE ALTHOUGH IT SEEMED OBVIOUS THEY HAD NEVER MOVED OFF THEIR HOOKS TOWARDS THE PEDALS. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT TOYOTA CORPORATE TO SEEK THEIR ADVICE AND FULLY DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM AS I HAVE HERE.THEY SAID TOYOTA MECHANICS WOULD HAVE TO GET THE CAR TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN ORDER TO FIX IT. I ASSURED THEM IT WAS REALLY HAPPENING, BUT IT WAS NOT PREDICTABLE. SOON AFTER THIS,MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT THERE WAS AN OPENING FOR ME TO COME IN AND HAVE MY CAR LOOKED AT SINCE THEY HAD BEEN MADE AWARE THAT I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES ! I LET THEM KNOW THAT MY BRAKES WERE NOT THE PROBLEM BUT WAS WITH ACCELERATION WHEN I WAS STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS CAR IN MARCH 2007 AND CHANGED THE TIRES IN 2009 AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. AND NOW WE HAVE TO CHANGE THE TIRES AGAIN IN 2011 AT ABOUT 55,000 MILES DUE TO ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT THE TIRES (AT WARRANTY OF 80,000 MILES) HAVE TO BE CHANGED AT LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. THIS MAY BE DUE TO PROBLEMATIC CONFIGURATION OR BUILD OF THE CAR. *TR
LETTER FROM SENATOR HAGAN ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT, RE DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE IN HIS 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO NOT STOP OR JUST COMPLETELY STALL WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER STATED HE DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE, UNTIL A WEEK AFTER PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS. HE IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
GRANDDAUGHTER DRIVING ON COUNTY ROAD EVIDENTLY INATTENTIVE HAD TO QUICKLY STOP BECAUSE CAR IN FRONT OF HER STOPPED FOR RED LIGHT.THERE HAD JUST BEEN A SHORT RAIN AND ROAD OILS WERE PRESENT. HER CAR SLIDE INTO THE REAR BUMPER OF THE SUV IN FRONT OF HER. I ASSUME THAT THE QUICK BREAKING CAUSED THE TOYOTA TO NOSE DIVE UNDER THE REAR BUMPER OF THE SUV. THE READ BUMPER OF THE SUV SUFFERED ONLY SLIGHT MOVEMENT AND SMALL ABRASION MARK. THE TOYOTA HAS SERIOUS DAMAGE - CRUMPLED HOOD AND DESTROYED HEADLIGHT AND REQUIRED TOWING..THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SHE WAS UNHARMED. PERHAPS THIS IS AN INCIDENT WHEN THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. I HAVE HEARD OF VERY MINOR COLLISIONS CAUSING DEPLOYMENT. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT INTO DRIVE FROM PARK BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. THE GEAR SHIFT MADE A LOUD CRACKLING SOUND WHEN IT WAS ENGAGED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MOVE IT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES ECM FAILURE*TGW THE CONSUMER STATED ON JULY 20, 2011, HIS VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE ECM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE ECM REPLACED. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON AUGUST 1, 2011 REGARDING THE EXACT FAILURE.*JB THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR TOWING EXPENSES, THE MECHANICS TIME AND CAB FARE. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 COROLLA 4-DR SEDAN. VIN - OMITTED CURRENT MILEAGE 48820 ABOUT A WEEK AGO, I NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (MICHAEL'S TOYOTA IN BELLEVUE) FOR SERVICE WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE A/C CONDENSER HAS A HOLE IN IT AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED - TO THE TUNE OF $685. I WAS SHOCKED BY THIS SO STARTED DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ONLINE ONLY TO LEARN THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER 2006 COROLLA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AC002-06 WAS RELEASED BY TOYOTA ADMITTING TO THE FAULTY DESIGN OF THE CONDENSER WHICH LEFT IT UNPROTECTED AND VULNERABLE TO ROAD DEBRIS. I'M SHOCKED AND APPALLED BY THIS. WITH ALL OF THE NEGATIVE PRESS THAT TOYOTA HAS RECEIVED IN RECENT YEARS, I WOULD EXPECT YOU TO BE GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO ENSURE THAT ALL KNOWN PROBLEMS ARE CORRECTED. I TURNED DOWN THE SUGGESTED REPLACEMENT AND WILL CONTINUE TO SEEK ARBITRATION. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT SEVERAL OFFICIAL COMPLAINTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN FILED, YET NO RECALL. I COME FROM A LARGE FAMILY OF TOYOTA OWNERS, WE STAND BY OUR CARS & TRUCKS AS THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY RELIABLE. I WILL CONTINUE TO ENDORSE THEM. THE GAS STARTED TO LEAK FROM TOP OF THE FUEL TANK WHEN FILLING TO MAXIMUM LEVEL. THIS FAILURE APPEARED AFTER 5 YEARS USAGE OF THE NEW CAR. DRIVER WHO WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, CAUSED MUTCH FUEL LEAK TO STREETS. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS FOR DRIVERS WHO SMOKE.

THE AIR BAGS TO NOT DEPLOY DURING THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISING ACROSS THE CHEST FROM THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED HOME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED DURING THE CRASH. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THE A/C BLOWS COOL AIR NOT COLD FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND STOPS BLOWING COOL. YOU CAN TURN THE A/C OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON AND THE AIR BLOWS COOL AGAIN FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN GOES BACK TO WARM. I'VE NOTICED A SLIGHT SMELL (NOT BAD) COMING THRU THE VENTS SOMETIMES AND WHEN I HAVE THE AC ON, IT SEEMS TO FLUCTUATE BETWEEN COOL (NEVER COLD) AND LUKEWARM. I ALSO FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO HAVE IT ON THE 2ND SETTING TO FEEL AIR MOVING. *TR

I TOOK OFF WORK AND DROPPED MY CAR OFF AT THE DEALER, SLOAN TOYOTA IN DEVON, PA. I RECEIVED A CALL SHORTLY AFTER SAYING THE PART WAS NOT THERE AND WOULD BE ORDERED, THEN THEY TRIED TOLD ME ABOUT A BELT THEY COULD REPAIR FOR ME IN THE AMOUNT OF $150.00. I DECLINED THAT SERVICE AND PICKED MY CAR UP. I RECEIVED AN EMAIL A WEEK LATER SAYING MY CAR WAS SCHEDULED FOR SERVICE DURING THE TIME I WOULD BE AT WORK. I CALLED AND WAS TOLD AN AUTOMATED EMAIL GOES OUT A WEEK AFTER SERVICE HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED AND THEY WERE STILL WAITING ON THE PART TO COME IN FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL. THEY SAID I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL AND HERE IT IS 4 MONTHS LATER AND HAVE NOT HEARD IF THE PART EVER CAME IN OR NOT. MY UNDERSTANDING FROM READING THE SAFETY RECALL WAS THAT THE PART WAS AT THE DEALER. CONSUMER STATES FAILURE OF THE CENTRAL COMPUTER AND BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED A CRASH *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HER DAUGHTER APPLIED THE BRAKE TO REDUCE HER SPEED TO STEER AROUND ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND STEERING THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT. ULTIMATELY, HER DAUGHTER COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE HAD STALLED. 1. RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA INDICATING THAT A SAFETY DEFECT EXISTS IN MY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) FOR MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. I TOOK MY CAR TO SPRINGFIELD TOYOTA ON 2/22/2011. THEY REPLACED THE ECM AND NOW THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THEY TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO TURN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT OFF , IT WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $300 TO $400. THE DEALERSHIP LEFT THE ECM DISCONNECTED AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. 2. THE SERVICE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. THIS MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. 3. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN INDICATING THAT THE A/C CONDENSER IS NOT PROPERLY PROTECTED; THE NUMBER FOR THIS REPORT IS AC002-06. I FILED A COMPLAINT, ODI NUMBER 10313597 TO BRING ATTENTION TO A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS CONDITION WITH MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. AS STATED IN THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT, MY VEHICLES ECU (ENGINE COMPUTER) FAILED WHILE IN TRAFFIC 2 TIMES ON THIS VEHICLE. I WAS PLEASED TO FIND OUT THAT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE WAS INITIATED FOR MY MODEL YEAR COROLLA. CALLED TOYOTA FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEY SAID THAT MY VIN NUMBER VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THE OPERATOR THAT MY VEHICLE'S ECU HAD FAILED TWICE AND HAD BEEN REPLACED BY A DEALERSHIP. SHE COULD NOT GIVE ME A REASON WHY MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON MONDAY JANUARY 11, 2011 IT BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND A LOUD NOISE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. DROVE THE CAR TO A AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHO STATED THE ENGINE HAD SLUDGE AND THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THIS AUTO REPAIR SHOP PERFORMED A OIL CHANGE IN SEPT 2010 AND NOTED SOME SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. THE REPAIR SHOP RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ENGINE AS IT WAS NOT REPAIRABLE. I SPENT $5397 TO HAVE A JASPER REMANUFACTORED ENGINE INSTALLED IN THE TOYOTA. I DECIDED TO PERFORM AN INTERNET SEARCH TO SEE IF THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE TOYOTA ENGINE IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT TOYOTA RECALLS. I DISCOVERED AN ARTICLE THAT REFERENCED ODI'S INVESTIGATION OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA ENGINE 1ZZ-FE. THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT OIL CHANGES SHOULD BE DONE EVERY 2,000 MILES AND NOT THE 5,000 MILES INDICATED IN THE TOYOTA MANUAL. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM I'VE HAD WITH THE TOYOTA COROLLA. IN 2009 THE CAR'S DASHBOARD WIRE SHORTED OUT BEHIND THE WHEEL CAUSING THE FUSES TO BLOW. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. I'VE ALWAYS PURCHASED HONDA IN THE PAST AND HAVE A 2006 HONDA ACCORD. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A TOYOTA EVER AGAIN. *TR

I HAD GOT THE RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA AROUND SEPTEMBER 2010 IN THIS LETTER NOTIFIED THAT TOYOTA WILL SEND THE SECOND RECALL NOTICE WHEN THE REPLACEMENT PART IS READY. I HAD CALLED AND STOPPED BY AT TOYOTA (CENTRAL FLORIDA TOYOTA) SO MANY TIMES FOR ASKING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WHEN CAN I GET THE VEHICLE FIXED.
