WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 45 MPH AN INDIVIDUAL PULLED OUT INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY AS I WAS TRAVELING ON AND I STRUCK THEM HEAD ON IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. BEFORE THE CRASH OCCURRED, I WAS ABLE TO HALT ON THE BRAKES AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE.. BECAUSE I WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT I ONLY SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES TO MY NECK, CHEST, AND LEGS. I DRIVE A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA.*AK
DAUGHTER DRIVING, SMELLED AND SAW SMOKE, RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA. TWO DAYS LATER, SAME PROBLEM, RIGHT SIDE BRAKE DRAG. TOWED TO DEALER. TOLD ME NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE SOME ONE PUT MOTOR OIL IN THE BRAKE FLUID. WENT THERE. TECH PUT FINGER IN RESERVOIR, MOTOR IS IN IT, SYSTEM IS CONTAMINATED. THE COST IS 1,300 OR MORE TO REPLACE EVERYTHING. IT DOESN'T LOOK CONTAMINATED TO ME. I GOT SAMPLES, TOP, BOTTOM OF RESERVOIR, FRONT RIGHT BLEEDER, LEFT REAR BLEEDER. OTHER THAN THE TOP SAMPLE FROM RESERVOIR WHICH WAS TAKEN USING A DIRTY BATTERY TESTER, ALL OTHER SAMPLES LOOK GOOD. TOOK SAMPLE FROM ANOTHER CAR IN SERVICE AREA WITH BATTER TESTER WHICH HAD BLACK SPECKS COMING OUT PROBABLY BECAUSE BRAKE FLUID ATE AT RUBBER. AFTER TAKING 3 OR 4 TUBE FULL AND THROWING THEM AWAY THE BLACK SPECKS WENT AWAY AND GOT THE SAMPLE. THIS SAMPLE WAS TAKEN BY THE OPERATION MANAGER. SAMPLES OF FRONT/RIGHT, REAR/LEFT, BOTTOM OF M/C WHERE DONE BY TECH AS I HELD BOTTLE. ALL DONE IN FRONT OF THE MANAGER. SAID IT WAS THE M/C THAT WAS CAUSING THE BRAKE TO HOLD PRESSURE. I ASK HOW CAN IT BE ONLY ON ONE SIDE? IF THE PRESSURE IS AT M/C WHY AREN'T BOTH WHEELS DRAGGING OR LOCKING UP? I TOOK SAMPLE TO TECH AT ANOTHER DEALER (NOT A TOYOTA DEALER) HE SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BRAKE FLUID AND TOOK TEST FOR CONTAMINATION WITH FAST STRIP TESTING. ALL WERE GOOD. HE ALSO SAID THAT M/C NOT PROBLEM. THIS IS A NON ABS SYSTEM AND WORKS PRETTY SIMPLE. CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE 3 TIMES TO TALK TO TOYOTA REP, DEALER AND TOYOTA REFUSED ACCESS TO REP. THE DEALER GAVE ME THIS CHOICE... WE WILL DO YOU A FAVOR AND REPLACE THE M/C AT NO COST, HOWEVER IF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS IT WILL BE CONSIDERED CONTAMINATED AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY. WE ALREADY KNOW THE FRONT RIGHT WAS HEATED BEYOND A SAFE HEAT TEMPERATURE WHICH WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. THIS PUTS ME IN A NO WIN SITUATION WITH THE DEALER AND TOYOTA! IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM PLEASE REPORT
OUR 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE ENGINE SHUT-DOWN ON A FREEWAY. THE ENGINE SIMPLY SHUT OFF, WHICH CUT OFF THE POWER STEERING. WE WERE ABLE TO BRING THE CAR SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RE-START. THIS ENGINE STALL COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS CRASH BECAUSE THE CAR QUICKLY LOST SPEED IN FAST-MOVING TRAFFIC, AND THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO TURN. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN 2007, BUT WE NOW UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND WE WANT TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT. FURTHER, THE DEALERSHIP REQUIRED SEVEN ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON FREQUENTLY AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE AND THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. FURTHER, WHEN WE TRIED TO FILE A "LEMON LAW" COMPLAINT, TOYOTA SAID THAT EACH OF THE SEVEN "CHECK ENGINE" EVENTS WAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM AND THEREFORE THE CAR WAS NOT BOUGHT BACK BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AUTO TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING WHEN CHANGING DURING ACCELERATION. DEALERSHIP SAID CAR REQUIRES NEW COMPUTER MODULE AND NEW TRANSMISSION. ALL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA REARENDED. IDIOT LIGHT SAID AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT IT WASN'T. DEALER SHOP SAID CODE WAS THROWN, RESET SYSTEM. *TR
I WAS WESTBOUND ON BROWARD BLVD. IN BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, WHEN THE CAR SURGED AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH OCCUPANTS IN THE OTHER VEHICLE WERE INJURED. TWO OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE HAVE HAPPENED. ONE ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO IN 2011 AND ONE ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY 2015. ALSO, THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES THAT ACCELERATOR PADDLE SEEMS TO DEPRESS BY IT SELF SPEEDING UP THE VEHICLE. I BECAME AWARE OF A PENDING INVESTIGATING THE DOT NHTSA IS CONDUCTING UNDER CASE DP-14-003, OPENED ON 09/19/14, BY INVESTIGATOR STEPHEN MCHENRY ABOUT LOW SPEED SURGING INVOLVING MY YEAR VEHICLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 11,500 MILES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER , AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (PCM )FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK
TL*HE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. HE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE MINOR INJURIES AND THERE WERE ALSO FRONT END DAMAGES. A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD TO GET IN CONTACT WITH THE CORPORATE OFFICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10400. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL INTERMITTENTLY AFTER IT WAS STARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED HE STATED THAT THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED GEARS "LIKE A ROCKET". HE NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIFTED WITH EXTREME RESISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND REPLACED THE ECM ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2009. HE REFERENCED RECALL 10V384000, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING AND WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,002.
I WAS HEADING HOME FROM WORK TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON I-70 IN THE LEFT LANE AND TWO DEERS RAN IN FRONT OF ME FROM RIGHT TO LEFT. I COLLIDED WITH BOTH DEERS IN THE LEFT WESTBOUND LANE , AND THEN VEERED LEFT AND COLLIDED WITH THE GUARD RAIL. THE CAR SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE FRONT AND UNDERCARRIAGE AND MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND SUFFERED HEAD CONTUSIONS, HEAD AND NECK INJURIES, AND BRUISED MY BLADDER FROM THE SEAT BELT, CAUSING BLOOD IN MY URINE. THE CAR HAS BEEN DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS.*AK
I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE ON 06-26-06. ON 02-05-07 VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT STILL DIDN'T START. I CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD ME TO GET A JUMP OFF BECAUSE IT WAS THE BATTERY DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER. I GOT A JUMP OFF AND IT STILL WOULD START. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I DID THAT AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE NEEDED ALL KEYS TO SEE IF IT WAS THE KEYS AND IT WASN'T. HE THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS AND IT WASN'T. THEN HE SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND I STILL HAVE TROUBLE CRANKING IT NOW. I WOULD TURN THE KEY AND IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, IT WOULD CRANK. BEFORE THIS INCIDENCE, IN JULY 2006, NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE, MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING AND THEY STILL DO NOW. THE ROTOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. EACH TIME I TAKE IT FOR SERVICING, I'M TOLD THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WITH NO RESPONSE. NOW I'VE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR INTEGRITY, SIZE 175/70R13 TIRES. THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE TIRES WERE WARPED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THIS BY FIRST LOOKING AT THE FRONT TIRE, WHICH INDICATED THAT THEY WERE WEARING OUT. THE TIRES WERE CHECKED, ROTATED, AND BALANCED. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE FRONT TIRES WORE OUT. SHE TOOK THE TIRES TO THREE DIFFERENT PLACES AND THEY ALL STATED THAT THE TIRES HAD A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. GOODYEAR STATED THAT SHE COULD RECEIVE NEW TIRES FOR $39.48 PER TIRE, WHICH DID NOT INCLUDE THE NECESSARY SERVICES TO REPLACE THE TIRE. SHE DID NOT ACCEPT THE OFFER BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SUNLIGHT DIMINISHED THE VISIBILITY OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS WAS HOW THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED, BUT SUGGESTED TINTING THE WINDOWS, TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT IN THE VEHICLE.
THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN BETWEEN 40-50MPH ON A SECONDARY ROAD. THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A WHINING NOISE AND THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERED ON AND OFF. THE CAR STALLED OUT IN A DRIVEWAY. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE CAME OUT. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR TO MOVE IT. IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR WAS TOWED TO WESTBURY TOYOTA WHERE THEY WROTE IT UP AS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR WAS INSPECTED BY AN INSPECTOR FOR THE COMPANY AND I WAS TOLD THAT A ROD WENT THROUGH THE ENGINE, CUTTING THE FUEL LINE CAUSING THE FIRE. THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY DOWNSHIFTING (ON AN AUTOMATIC) AND WAS DRIVER ERROR, INVALIDATING THE WARRENTY. AT FIRST THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $13,000 TO FIX IT. THEN THEY OFFERED TO TAKE THE INSURANCE CHECK FOR $4,900 AND SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE WITH ME. THE LAST OFFER WAS TO GIVE THEM THE INSURANCE CHECK $1,000 AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A COMPERABLE CAR. THIS I THOUGHT WAS INSURANCE FRAUD. I WILL BE WITH OUT A CAR. *NM

I BOUGHT A NEW 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE WINDSHIELD WAS DISTORTED WITH WAVY AREAS IN THE GLASS. WHILE DRIVING, OBJECTS TRAVELING ACROSS THE FIELD OF GLASS WOULD RIPPLE. I HAD HEADACHES, EYE ACHING, AND EYE STRAIN WHEN TRACKING SIGNS AND OBJECTS THROUGH THE GLASS. A TOYOTA DEALER ADMITTED THE WINDSHIELD WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED THE GLASS. THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD WAS DISTORTED. TOYOTA ADMITTED THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED IT A SECOND TIME. THE SECOND REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD HAD DISTORTION. TOYOTA AGAIN SAID IT WAS DISTORTED, AND THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AT MY LOCAL DEALER HAD IT REPLACED A THIRD TIME. THE THIRD REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD HAS A DISTORTION DEFECT. SHOWING THE THIRD REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY LOCAL DEALER, HE SAID THEY WOULD ORDER ME A NEW WINDSHIELD. THEN A NEW SERVICE DIRECTOR STEPPED IN AND BLOCKED THE ORDER, SAYING THE GLASS WAS NORMAL AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. HOW CAN A TOYOTA-TRAINED SERVICE MANAGER ADMIT THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMEND A REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD, BUT THEN THE SERVICE DIRECTOR STEPS IN TO SAY THAT THE GLASS IS NORMAL. MEANWHILE, I LOOKED AT OTHER 2006 TOYOTA COROLLAS AT 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN PA & NY. NEW COROLLAS AT ALL THE DEALERS HAD DISTORTED WINDSHIELDS. I WROTE DOWN VIN #S OF FOUR COROLLAS WITH WINDSHIELD DISTORTION: 2TBR32E06C70XXXX; 2T1BR30E57C71XXXX; 2T1BR32E06C55XXXX; 2T1BR32E56C55XXXX. A FRIEND STOPPED AT A TOYOTA LOT ON THE WEST COAST AND FOUND 3 COROLLAS WITH SIMILAR DISTORTIONS: VIN #S: 1NXBR30E97Z77XXXX; 1NXBR30E27Z77XXXX; AND JTDBR32E77010XXXX. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM IN WINDSHIELDS OF 2006 COROLLAS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE INABILITY TO SEE CLEARLY THROUGH A DISTORTED WINDSHIELD PUTS DRIVERS AT RISK FOR ACCIDENT. WHO IS TESTING THE QUALITY OF TOYOTA GLASS TO ENSURE THAT IT MEETS OPTICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND VISUAL SAFETY STANDARDS? THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC FROM THE DANGERS OF DISTORTED GLASS. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN INITIALLY STARTING THE VEHICLE IN TEMPERATURES LESS THAN 70 DEGREES, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE CRASHED AND OVERTURNED. THE CONTACT DID NOT REMEMBER ANY THING OTHER THAN THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND DID NOT KNOW IF THE POLICE WAS PRESENT AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A JUNK YARD.
MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA DOES THE FOLLOWING WHEN BRAKING, IF A POTHOLE(S) OR BUMP(S) IN THE ROAD IS HIT (WHILE BRAKING AT THE SAME TIME), THE CAR FAILS TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP UNTIL THE AREA OF THE POTHOLES OR BUMPS IS PASSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL JERKS FORWARD AS IT APPEARS THAT THE BRAKES ARE FAILING TO ENGAGE OR DOES ITS JOB OF SLOWING OR STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES SINCE DAY ONE, BUT I THOUGHT THAT IT'S A SUSPENSION PROBLEM. *TR
1. SEPTEMBER 1, 2006 AND SEPTEMBER 10, 2006. 2. REAR SEAT BELT HAS JAMMED CLOSED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE ALLOWING PASSENGER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. IN A SEPARATE EVENT THE BUCKLE SNAPPED AS THOUGH IT WAS IN PLACE, BUT IT LATER RELEASED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. 3. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT. FOR NOW, THAT SEAT IS NOT BEING USED. *NM
2006 TOYOTA COROLLA MAKES A PULSATING SCREECHING NOISE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED OVER A BUMP, UNEVEN SURFACE, PUDDLE OF WATER OR PATCH OF ICE EVEN IF ONLY ONE TO TWO TIRES ARE ON SAID SURFACE. EVEN WHEN CAR WAS NEW, BRAKES WOULD SCREECH OCCASIONALLY AS IF PADS NEEDED REPLACING. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THAT CAR. BASED ON THAT INFORMATION, I DID NOT HAVE BRAKES CHECKED AGAIN FOR QUITE SOME TIME WHEN THEY WERE MAKING A SCRUBBING SOUND. BY THEN ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER, SCREECHING STARTED AGAIN ACCOMPANIED BY SCRUBBING NOISE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE PROCEEDING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FRONT FENDER WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO PART REPLACED FOR THE ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I CAME HOME ON 8/25/06 AT 12:30AM, DRIVING ABOUT 15 MILES HOME FROM THE RESTAURANT, AND PARKED THE CAR IN MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. HAVE NOTIFIED TOYOTA, AND HAVE A CLAIMS TICKET WITH THEM, BUT GETTING THEM TO RETURN ANY PHONE CALLS HAS BEEN COMPLETELY UNSUCCESSFUL AT ALL. *NM

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT CAN CAUSE FATALITY. THIS IS A NINE (9) YEAR OLD CAR. THE REPLACEMENT PART MAY BE THREE (3) YEARS AWAY, WHEN THE CAR WILL BE TWELVE (12) YEARS OLD. INTERIM OPTIONS OF EITHER DISABLING THE AIRBAG OR NOT SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ARE VERY POOR SOLUTIONS. IF TOYOTA CAN HOLD OUT LONG ENOUGH ALL DEFECTIVE CARS WILL BE OFF THE ROAD AND NO REPAIRS WILL BE NECESSARY. THIS OUTCOME IS VERY BAD, THE RESOLUTION IS NOT ADEQUATE. DISAPPOINTED TO REALIZE THAT CAR OWNER AND PASSENGER SAFETY IS NOT A PRIORITY CONCERN FOR NHTSA, BUT RATHER THE FOCUS SEEMS TO BE ON MAINTAINING HAPPY CAR MANUFACTURERS. THE MECHANICS EXPLAINED THE TOYOTA COROLLA VEHICLES CANNOT BE ALIGNED AND TO GO ON MY MERRY WAY. I THEN CONTINUED DRIVING THE TOYOTA COROLLA AND MADE SEVERAL VISITS TO BRAKE MASTERS AND GOODYEAR TIRE IN PHOENIX AZ TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO BADLY. BRAKE MASTERS AND GOODYEAR TIRE FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE VEHICLE ACCRUED 10,000 MILES THE TIRES WERE BALD! I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO PRECISION TOYOTA AND I GOT THE RUN AROUND. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A PERSON NEVER ROTATES THEIR TIRES. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AT LEAST 4 TIMES DURING THIS TIME PERIOD AT GOODYEAR TIRES LOCATED IN PHOENIX AZ. I THEN REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES WITH A NEW SET. DURING THIS TIME PERIOD THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO SHAKE. I THEN REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN. I THEN WENT BACK TO PRECISION TOYOTA FOR HELP. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT PRECISION TOYOTA TOLD ME TO NEVER RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP OR HE WOULD CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE ME ESCORTED OFF THE LOT. I DROVE AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP VERY CALMLY. ON MAY 28, 2006, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A ROUTINE STOP IN A COMMERCIAL LOT, THE ENGINE OF THE CAR REVVED, THE CAR ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CONCRETE STOP AT THE END OF THE PARKING SPACE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE ALONG THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE AND IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD HAVE TO APPLY STEADY, REPEATED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES BEFORE THEY WOULD ENGAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

I THEN ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO START VEHICLE AND IT STARTED. I DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND ADVISED THEM I DID NOT WANT A NEW VEHICLE THAT WAS NOT GOING TO START. THEY ADVISED THEY WOULD CHECK IT AGAIN AND TO LEAVE IT. THEY DID FURNISH ME WITH A CAR TO DRIVE IN THE MEANTIME. THEY CALLED ME WEDNESDAY, JAN. 4 TO ADVISE ME THEY HAD REPROGRAMMED THE KEYS AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR ME TO PICK UP. THEY WENT OUT TO START IT AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE CALLED ME BACK TO ADVISE ME OF SAME AND THEY WOULD CHECK IT FURTHER. THEY CALLED ME FRIDAY, JAN. 5 AND SAID THEY HAD PUT A NEW COMPUTER IN THE CAR AND I COULD PICK IT UP. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WENT OUT TO GET THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL CAME BACK AND SAID IT WOULD NOT START. I WAS SO UPSET AND WANTED TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. WHEN I TELEPHONED TOYOTA, I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT NO RECALL WAS BEING ISSUED FOR DRIVER SIDE OR SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS. THIS CAR HAS HAD SURGE ISSUES, RUSTED WHEELS, TIRES 6 AND 8 YEARS OLD AT TIME CAR WAS PURCHASED AS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE, NOW SHRAPNEL DANGER FROM AIRBAGS WITH NO RECALL. I PUT 8500 MILES ON CAR FIRST YEAR I OWNED IT. THEN SURGE OCCURRED AND NOW IT ONLY HAS 14500 MILES SINCE I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. TOYOTA WANTS ME TO GIVE IT TO DEALER TO HOLD UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. NO GUARANTEE RE DAMAGE DUE TO CAR SITTING ON DEALERS LOT FOR MONTHS I.E. RUSTED BRAKES, ENGINE, ETC FROM SITTING UNUSED FOR MONTHS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. TOYOTA SHOULD BE MADE TO TAKE BACK THIS VEHICLE AND REPLACE IT WITH NEW COROLLA. I BOUGHT IT NEW SINCE I WAS RETIRING AND NOW RETIRED AND CAN NOT AFFORD NEW CAR. SO I AM STUCK WITH IT AND CAN NOT DRIVE IT OR ENJOY MY RETIREMENT OR VISIT RELATIVES SINCE I CAN NOT DRIVE CAR ON HIGHWAY. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE STEERING SWERVED TO THE RIGHT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE WHEN IT STAYED IN THE CENTER LANE. WHENEVER HE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND EACH TIME THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OF DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
I PRESENTLY OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND A 2008 SUBARU OUTBACK . I NOTICED THAT ON BOTH VEHICLES WHEN I START THE ENGINES THE DASH LIGHT COME ON WHICH IS FINE BUT IF ONE GETS OUT AND WALKS AROUND THE VEHICLE ONE SEES THE FRONT DRIVING LIGHTS ARE ON BUT THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I MENTION THIS BECAUSE I LIVE IN NORTH OF SEATTLE AND THE WEATHER IS INCLEMENT MANY DAYS OF THE YEAR. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING ON I-5 AND IT IS RAINING , MANY TIMES I CANNOT SEE THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF MINE DO TO THE RAIN MIST AND MOSTLY BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE REAR OF THEIR VEHICLE. IS A NEWER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MINE . AS I PASS THEM I CAN SEE THAT THE FRONT RUNNING LIGHT ARE ON BUT NO LIGHTS ARE ON IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD WHICH NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . IT COULD BE CORRECTED THROUGH RECALLS BUT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT THE FACTORY DURING THE DESIGN PROCESS. I HAVE TALKED THIS OVER WITH MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND THEY ALL AGREE THAT I AM RIGHT IN MY ASSESSMENT. MOST OF THE DRIVER THAT I REPORT THIS TO DO ARE NOT AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THEIR TAIL LIGHTS ARE NOT ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THE TAIL LIGHTS ONLY COME ON WHEN THEY ARE MANUALLY TURNED ON WITH THE DASH SWITCH ON THE STALK. I AM NOT SURE OF WHEN THIS DESIGN FLAW WAS CREATED OR WITH WHAT YEAR VEHICLE BUT I WOULD SUSPECT THAT IT IS OCCURRING ON 90% OF THE NEWER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. SOME LIVES COULD CERTAINLY BE SAVED BY HAVING THE TAIL LIGHT COME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED JUST AS THE DRIVING LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED. COULD ALSO BE REMEDIED BY NOT HAVING THE DRIVING LIGHTS OR THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON UNTIL THEY ARE MANUALLY ACTIVATED BY THE DRIVER. THANK YOU. *TR
