THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
LETTER FROM SENATOR ISAKSON ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. *SMD THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A SEVERE AND SUDDEN LOCK UP OF THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER STATED JUST A SMALL TOUCH OF THE BRAKE PEDAL CAUSED THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP. THE CONSUMER NOTICED WHEN HE TOUCHED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE VEHICLE NOT MOVING, THERE WAS A LOUD HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT WAS NOT NOTICEABLE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER. THE PEDAL WOULD GO DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKE, TO GET IT BACK UP, WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS TRYING TO BRAKE. THE DEALER BELIEVED A ROD IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS NOT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY FROM A PREVIOUS BRAKE JOB. ALSO, THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED. *JB
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR KEPT ON SLOWLY GOING AHEAD. MY FOOT WAS DOWN TO THE FLOOR ON THE BRAKE, BUT IT STILL WENT FORWARD AND I HAD TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT SO AS NOT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKED BY TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS AT TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WOULD THE GAS PEDAL HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT? TWO DIFFERENT AUTO SHOPS, LOOKED AT THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THERE IS A LOUD WHIRRING SOUND FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR. MY CAR ALREADY HAD THE 90000 MILE CHECKUP AND WITH MINOR ADJUSTMENTS OF BELTS ETC. IT PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS. NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR

I AM FILING A COMPLAINT TO REPORT A BRAKE FAILURE ON MY TOYOTA COROLLA 2007 WITH 42,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ON JUNE 25, 2013, I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THE BRAKES BEGAN TO FAIL. TO SLOW DOWN, HE HAD TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL GRADUALLY FURTHER AND FURTHER UNTIL IT EVENTUALLY REACHED THE FLOOR, MAKING THEN THE HISSING SOUND OF AIR FORCED THROUGH A SMALL OPENING. WE WENT INTO A PARKING LOT AND, BY THE TIME WE FOUND A SPACE, THE BRAKES WERE GONE. WE USED THE HAND-BRAKE TO STOP. TWO HOURS LATER, WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME, I DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER, TOYOTA NORTH OF MOUNT KISCO, NY, WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE AND WAS AT A LOSS TO ADVISE ME. THE BRAKES BEING SO CRITICAL TO SAFE DRIVING AND INTERMITTENT FAILURE BEING UNACCEPTABLE, I DECIDED TO CHANGE THE MASTER CYLINDER AT OWN MY EXPENSE. REGRETTABLY, WHEN I WENT TO GET THE CAR ON JUNE 28, 1013, I WAS TOLD THAT NEITHER THE DEALER NOR TOYOTA WOULD TAKE THE MASTER CYLINDER APART TO UNDERSTAND WHY IT FAILED. DRIVING AROUND 7:30 PM SUDDENLY TRAFFIC COMES TO A HALT, I BRAKE AND THE CAR DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AT ALL, I WAS GOING BETWEEN 35 TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. WHEN EVER I TURN OFF THE CAR THEN START IT AGAIN AND MOVE EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARD THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND IN MY FORWARD BREAK AREA. I TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE SOUND. I TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED A PART TWICE. IT STOPS GRINDING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT THEN IT COMES BACK. IT NOW HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME I GO FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. ALSO, IF I GO OVER A BUMPY STRETCH OF ROAD OR SUDDENLY STEP ON MY BRAKES THE BRAKES GRIND AND I AM UNABLE TO STOP FOR A FEW SECONDS. IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ABS. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS DAILY.

SAFETY ISSUE: I HAVE 2007 ( NEW FROM THE DEALER) COROLLA HAS ONLY 46K MILES, I REPLACED THE BRAKES AT 31K. AT THE END OF 2009 WHEN THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT FOR A TWO YEAR OLD CAR WITH ONLY 31K. I DID REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS TO PROTECT THE CAR. YESTERDAY, THE CAR HAD A GRINDING NOISE, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE LEFT PAD WAS COMPLETELY GONE, I WAS SURPRISED, BECAUSE IT IS ONLY HAS 15K SINCE THE LAST TIME HE REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS, HE TOLD ME THAT THE CALIPER WAS STUCK AND CAUSED THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE MOISTURE ENTERED THE BRAKE DISC AND FROZE THE DISK AND FROZE THE CALIPERS AND CAUSED THIS. THE CAR HAS ONLY 46K AND TO CHANGE THE BRAKES TWICE THERE IS SOME DESIGN AND SAFETY ISSUE WITH MOISTURE GETTING INTO THE CALIPER. IT IS TOYOTA'S DESIGN AND ALL COROLLA 'S IN THE USA NEED TO BE FIXED, TO KEEP MOISTURE FROM GETTING INTO THE CALIPER AND CAUSING IT TO STICK. IT IS PUBLIC SAFETY. I DID NOT FIX THE CAR WITH THE DEALER BECAUSE HE WAS SO IGNORANT AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE TOYOTA SERVICE AT THIS DEALER AND I WILL ELEVATE THAT TO A HIGHER LEVEL WITH A DISTRICT ATTORNEY BECAUSE IT IS PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY AND THE PUBLIC. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACTS DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 60 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THEY DID NOT RESPOND, AND CONSEQUENTLY SHE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELTS FAILED TO RESTRAIN HER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERAL LACERATIONS TO THE HEAD AS WELL AS SEVERAL BRUISES AND BODY SWELLING. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,500. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKES WERE WORKING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING FAST AND THE CRASH WAS NOT SEVERE ENOUGH FOR THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY, BUT THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE MOUNT VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT 10-24232 WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 33,000.

SHE STATED THAT WHENEVER SHE WOULD TRAVEL ON WET ROAD CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD SLIDE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND. ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY RAMP AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 15 MPH DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLIDE AROUND THE EXIT RAMP. SHE ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, TO NO AVAIL. SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO DO A COMPLETE 360 DEGREE TURN AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THERE WAS MODERATE DAMAGE ON THE FRONT-END OF THE VEHICLE AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE SCENE TO THE DEALER. SHE WAS AWAITING A DAMAGE ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALER. NOW WHEN I SAY THE CAR KEPT GOING IT DID INSTEAD OF HITTING THE SUV ONCE WE HIT HIM TWICE AS IF MY FOOT WASN'T TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF MY CAR WAS DESTROYED, THE SUV IN FRONT HAD A SMALL DENT, BUT THANKS TO THE LORD NO ONE WAS HURT EXCEPT FOR A LARGE BRUISE ON MY MOTHER AND LOTS OF HURT FEELINGS FOR ME.
