SINCE PURCHASING MY 2009 COROLLA I HAD TO HAVE A BELT CHANGE, I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THEY STATED WAS MY FLOOR MAT, AND THEN MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK. THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD INCLUDE TIMES OF LOW ACCELERATION TO THE PEDAL STICKING IN THE DEPRESSED POSITION EVEN IF MY FOOT WAS OFF THE ACCELERATOR. IN ADDITION, SINCE THE SNOW IS GREATER THIS YEAR GIVING ME A BETTER IDEA HOW IT HANDLES IN THE SNOW I HAVE ENCOUNTERED A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT SCARES ME. I WROTE TO TOYOTA ABOUT IT ON 2/24/10 AND TODAY 2/26/10. BELOW IS MY LAST E-MAIL TO THEM. "DRIVING IN THE SNOW 2/25/10 I ENCOUNTERED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKED IN AND I HAD POWER LOSS TO THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENED EVEN ON THE HIGHWAYS. THE CAR WOULD SLOW TO ALMOST A STOP. I PRESSED AND PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR PICKING UP MY FOOT AND PUTTING DOWN AT TIMES TO SEE IF IT WOULD HELP BUT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO SLOW OR HAVE TOTAL POWER LOSS WHERE I COULD NOT GO. IT WAS AS IF I HAD NO POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE PEDAL WAS LIMP. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY! DRIVING AND HAVING THE CAR THEN SLOW OR STOP OR ALMOST STOP TO WHERE I CAN'T GO IS DANGEROUS, PLEASE HELP!!!!! THE DATE SELECTED BELOW AS INCIDENT DATE: I SELECTED THE INCIDENT DATE AS THE DATE OF THE LAST TIME THE INCIDENT OCCURRED EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAS ALSO OCCURRED BEFORE THIS DATE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IN JANUARY 2009. I THOUGHT THE BRAKES WERE A LITTLE SLUGGISH AND EXPRESSED THAT TO THE SALESMAN. HE SAID THEY WERE FINE SO I THOUGHT I JUST NEEDED TO GET USED TO THEM. I HAD NO OTHER PROBLEM IN 2009. IN JANUARY OF 2010, ON TWO OCCASIONS, I EXPERIENCED EPISODES IN WHICH THE BRAKES FAILED. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THEY WOULD HOLD AND THEN SLIP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. ON AT LEAST ONE OF THESE OCCASIONS, I THOUGHT I HEARD THE ENGINE RACING WHILE THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. AFTER I HEARD ABOUT THE COROLLA RECALL, I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND THIS BUT ASKED THEM TO KEEP THE CAR UNTIL THEY COULD FIND AND FIX THE CAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTION BECAUSE I CONSIDERED THE CAR TO BE A DEATH TRAP. THIS WAS IN FEBRUARY 2010 AND I REPORTED TO THEM EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE NOW REPORTED TO YOU. AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME MY CAR WAS "ALL SET." WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THEY GAVE ME AN INVOICE WHICH SAID THEY HAD TAKEN IT FOR A COUPLE OF TEST DRIVES, CHECKED THE CODES, AND FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAD TOLD THEM IT WAS A BRAKE PROBLEM. ON 2/25/10, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT AND THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER THE CAR ACCELERATED BUT I DO KNOW THAT IT DID NOT SLOW DOWN. CONSEQUENTLY, I REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND MY VEHICLE WAS BADLY DAMAGED. *TR
ON 2/25/10, I EXPERIENCED THE TOYOTA SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM WITH MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. I WAS ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK IN THE LATE AFTERNOON AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO GAIN SPEED AND CHANGE LANES. I WAS TRAVELING I71 NORTH IN CINCINNATI, OHIO. THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED AND IMMEDIATELY RAN FULL THROTTLE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS ALSO AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM AS I WAS UNABLE TO TOTALLY STOP THE CAR. THE ENGINE RAN UP OVER 7500 RPM, SO I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AS I WAS INSTRUCTED THROUGH THE MEDIA. I WAS LOSING SPEED AND I STILL NEEDED TO GET OVER 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO A SAFE SPOT ON THE BERM. I PLACED THE CAR BACK IN GEAR AND WAS RAPIDLY GOING OVER 80 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER AND WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW THE CAR WHILE IN GEAR, I COULDN'T GET IT BELOW 45 MPH WITH BOTH FEET PUSHING HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I AGAIN PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS AGAIN RUNNING AT FULL THROTTLE WHILE I WAS IN PARK. I TURNED ON THE 4 WAY FLASHERS AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I WAITED AND TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN SO MY WIFE COULD HEAR IT ON THE PHONE AND AGAIN IT RAN FULL THROTTLE. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER STARTED THE CAR AND IT RAN NORMALLY. THE KINGS TOYOTA DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL RECALL LIST. AFTER HAVING A TOYOTA FIELD ENGR. LOOK AT MY CAR IT WAS DETERMINED THAT NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND, THAT THE COMPUTER HEALTH REPORT SHOWED NO PROBLEM IN THE HISTORY FILE AND THE WAS RELEASED BACK TO ME ON 3/2/10 WITH A NO PROBLEM FOUND DIAGNOSIS. THEY ASSURED ME THAT MY CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND PUT MY FAMILY IN. BUNK!!!! I NO LONGER WANT THIS CAR, I WOULD LIKE TO BE RELEASED FROM THE REMAINING 13 MONTHS OF MY LEASE AND I WILL LOOK FOR ANOTHER CAR AND NOT A TOYOTA. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I NEVER WAS INJURED OR THAT I INJURED SOME ELSE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING HARSH PAIN IN MY NECK, SHOULDERS AND ARMS SINCE THE INCIDENT DUE TO FIGHTING TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 40 MPH THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V023000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL) WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 2684.

2009 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS VERY QUICK STEERING.IT WILL MOVE SIDEWAYS IF THE DRIVER IS NOT PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION.THE STEERING REMINDS ME OF DRIVING A 1960 VW.
I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 60 MPH THE POWER STEERING IS CAUSING THE CAR TO WANDER OUT OF THE LANE EVEN WHEN I HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES SINCE JANUARY 2009, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST AND HAS NOT IMPROVED. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER 2/26/2010 AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL TOYOTA TOLD THEM A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD US THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 36,000 MILES. I HAVE 14,000 MILES ON THE CAR NOW, DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN? THE CAR CHANGES LANES ON ITS OWN AND IT IS HARD TO CONTROL IT AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH. *TR
WAS EXITING THE 73 FREEWAY ON BIRCH GOING 70MPH APPROACHING IRVINE AVE TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TO SLOW CAR DOWN WAS UNABLE TO IT WAS AS IF BRAKES WERE NOT BEING APPLIED. AS I GOT CLOSER AND CLOSER TO RIGHT TURN AND STILL UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK WHICH SLOWED THE CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO LET A DEALER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CALLED AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED SINCE HE HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE DEALER REPAIRED IT UNDER THE RECALL FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL 9 DAYS BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12400 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 12491 .
I WOULD LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE STEERING SYSTEM OF MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. AT THE LIMITS OF THE STEERING SYSTEM THERE IS A LOUD NOISE. THAT IS, AT THE END OF THE DEGREE TO WHICH I CAN TURN THE WHEEL THE STEERING SYSTEM MAKES A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND. I HAVE POINTED THIS OUT TO CLASSIC TOYOTA IN MENTOR OHIO IN THE PAST AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A STEERING PROBLEM! *TR

PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V017000 AND 10V023000 PERFORMED ON HER VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 33700.
SPECIFICALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA WILL SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE IT IS ENCOUNTERING A VERY STRONG CROSSWIND. IT HAS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE, BUT IT IS INFREQUENT AND SO FAR HAS NOT CAUSED MUCH CONCERN AS FAR AS SAFETY. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA BY EMAIL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, IT ONLY LASTS ABOUT 2-5 SECONDS AND ALTHOUGH IT FEELS LIKE A STRONG CROSSWIND IS BLOWING, THERE HAS BEEN NO WIND. THE TIRES ARE ALSO IN GOOD SHAPE AND ARE ROUTINELY ROTATED AND BALANCED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE OR NOT, BUT A WEB SEARCH HAS FOUND THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I AM VERY DISTURBED BY THAT, AND ESPECIALLY SINCE TOYOTA HAS CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINTS. *TR
AS A CURRENT OWNER OF A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA I BELIEVE THAT THE STEERING ISSUE IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. WHILE I HAVE NOT HAD ANY SERIOUS PROBLEM, THE CAR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ON A WINDY DAY IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE. IT SEEM THAT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE FEED BACK TO THE DRIVER DOES NOT ALLOW FOR GOOD CONTROL WHEN HIT WITH A GUST OF WIND. MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS ISSUES AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH ITS STEERING. IT WILL BE FINE AND THEN IT WILL WANT TO GO SIDE TO SIDE VERY QUICKLY FOR A SHORT WHILE, THEN GO BACK TO DRIVING NORMALLY. IT IS SIMILAR TO WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU WERE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL RAPIDLY SIDE TO SIDE, BUT JUST A FEW INCHES. IT HAPPENS AT SPEEDS OVER 50MPH AND HAS DONE IT UP TO 80MPH. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN, BUT DOES SO SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. I HAVE AN 80 MILE ROUND TRIP COMMUTE DAILY, AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DIRECTION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THE FAULTY BRAKES ARE DUE TO THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THAT WAS PERFORMED ON HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,500.

I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. I HAVE COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THE STEERING PULLING ONE WAY OR THE OTHER TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER BUT THEY HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED IT'S FINE. I FINALLY LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON GOOGLE AND FOUND OTHER PEOPLE ARE ALSO HAVING THIS PROBLEM. MY CAR(COROLLA 2009) DOES NOT HOLD THE ROAD. VERY HARD TO STEER STRAIT , MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS ON FREEWAYS. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOR ALIGMENT 3 OR 4 TIMES . WIND AND RAIN MAKES IT WORSE. SINCE MAY 2009, MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA DRIFTS ON THE HIGHWAY LEFT OR RIGHT. I HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL VERY TIGHT, AND STILL THE CAR DRIFTS. I HAVE USED THE STOCK RIMS, NEW RIMS, ORIGINAL TIRES, SNOW TIRES AND NEW TIRES. HAVE HAD FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENTS DONE, AND NOTHING. NOW THAT I AM HEARING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME. BUT GOT NEW TIRES ON 2/19/2010, AND THE SAME THING. I DRIVE 80 MILES ROUND TRIP EACH DAY TO WORK AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE LOOK AWAY, AND YOU ARE DRIFTING. I BOUGHT MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IN JUNE. AFTER HAVING IT FOR A WEEK I QUESTIONED ABOUT THE REASON AS TO WHY THE STEERING WAS SO HARD TO HANDLE IN THE RAIN AND WHEN THE WIND BLEW. WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IS SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC, MAYBE 20MPH I WAS BRAKING AND REALIZED THAT I WAS GETTING CLOSE TO THE TOYOTA TUNDRA IN FRONT OF ME. AND IT FRIGHTENED ME BECAUSE I ALMOST HIT THE TRUCK. I HAD TO PRESS MY BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE IT WAS GRABBING AND IT MADE AN AWFUL NOISE AND I STOPPED JUST SHY OF HITTING THE TUNDRA. I MADE A CALL TO TOYOTA LAST YEAR BUT I WASN'T ONE OF THE STATES THAT THEY CONSIDERED TO GET AMBIENT LOW TEMPERATURES. WELL WE GOT INTO THE LOW 20'S AND TEENS MANY OF NIGHTS AND LAST NIGHT WAS IN THE 30'S WITH FROST ON THE CAR. HOW COLD DOES IT HAVE TO BE? I HAVE HAD MY WASHER FLUID FREEZE UP A FEW TIMES. *TR
VEHICLE WAS EXITING THE WASHINGTON GRAND COMPLEX. DUE TO THERE BEING NO DAMAGE TO THE EXIT GATE IT APPEARS THE DRIVER OR THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED CROSSING RIDGEWOOD RD AND FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON WAS NOT ABLE TO COME TO A STOP STRIKING 71 RIDGEWOOD RD CAUSING STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE VEHICLE SO THAT THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED; HOWEVER, WITHIN A WEEK THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ABS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IN AUGUST OF 2009. SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE, I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE DRIFTS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE LANE THAT YOU ARE DRIVING IN AND SEVERAL TIMES, I HAVE COME CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR THAT WAS IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT EVERY THING IS NORMAL AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT MY CONCERNS. AT THIS POINT, I HAVE ELECTED TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE ANOTHER VEHICLE AS I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE COROLLA. I RECENTLY HEARD THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT ACTION THEY WERE GOING TO TAKE AS THERE WERE ONLY ABOUT 100 COMPLAINTS FILED ON THE ISSUE. I PERFORMED A WEB SEARCH (GOOGLE) ON THIS TOPIC AND RECEIVED OVER 2.5 MILLIONS RESULTS SO THIS IS NOT A SMALL ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO READ MANY CONSUMER REVIEW SITES AND THIS ISSUE IS MENTIONED IN ALMOST ALL REVIEWS OF THE CAR. *TR
ONGOING STEERING ISSUE WITH 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA PURCHASED AUGUST 1, 2009, FROM EASTERN SHORE TOYOTA AS A NEW CAR. AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS (60 - 75 MPH) CAR BEHAVED AS IF IN A STRONG WIND...STEERING CONSTANTLY NEEDING CORRECTION. ON JANUARY 6 I TOOK THE CAR FOR SCHEDULED SERVICE AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP. HE KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND SAID, "IT'S THE TIRES." HE SAID THAT AT HIGH SPEEDS THOSE TIRES, "JUST RUN THE ROADS." HE SAID ALL I COULD DO IS WAIT UNTIL THE TIRES WEAR OUT AND CHANGE BRANDS. I THOUGHT THAT WAS A LOT TO ASK OF A PERSON WHO HAD RECENTLY PAID VIRTUALLY FULL PRICE FOR A NEW CAR WITH A SENSE OF DRIVER-CONTROL NOTICEABLY DIMINISHED ON THE INTERSTATE. IT MAY BE IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO KNOW THAT I SAVED THE WORK ORDER AND IT MAKES NOTE OF MY RAISING THE STEERING ISSUE. I CALLED THE CAR SALESMAN AND VOICED MY OBJECTION TO "JUST PUT UP WITH IT." HE CORRECTLY POINTED OUT THAT THE TIRES WERE UNDER GOODYEAR'S WARRANTY, NOT TOYOTA'S. I TOOK THE COROLLA TO THE LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER AND THEY REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES ON MY CAR...MILEAGE NOW UP TO NEAR 5000. ON MY FIRST DRIVE TEST, PROBLEM AT HIGH SPEED WAS DEFINITELY IMPROVED. I CALLED MY SALEPERSON AND TOLD HIM SO. HOWEVER, ON A 300-MILE ROUND TRIP YESTERDAY, THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH REDUCED AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS, WAS NOW VERY APPARENT AT CITY DRIVING SPEEDS. I FINISHED THE TRIP RESOLVED TO WRITE THE DEALERSHIP TODAY WHICH I WILL DO AS SOON AS I FINISH THIS. STEERING I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA I PURCHASED NEW 9/18/2008. WHEN I DRIVE ON THE FREEWAYS IT IS ALWAYS DRIFTING AS THE ROAD TAKES IT THIS WAY OR THAT WAY OF AIR TAKES THE CAR WITH IT EVEN INTO THE OTHER LANE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CAR TO DRIVE OVER 45 MPH. THE CAR OVERSTEERED AND FISHTAILED YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN. AS A RESULT, I ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR IN THE LANE TO MY RIGHT. I WAS GOING ABOUT 25 MPH OR LESS ON DRY, NORMAL ASPHALT PAVEMENT, IN NORMAL WEATHER CONDITIONS, AFTER FREEWAY DRIVING IN LOS ANGELES CA. IN A SEPARATE INCIDENT, I FOUND THE STEERING TO BE DANGEROUSLY VAGUE WHEN I WAS DRIVING AROUND 70 MPH DOWNHILL ON A STEEP AND CURVY MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY (I-15 IN NEVADA, ABOUT 100 MILES SOUTH OF LAS VEGAS) IN DARK. THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, WITH THE STEERING BEING EXTREMELY LIGHT AND VAGUE. I CHECKED THE WHEEL VS. TIRE MOVEMENT OF MY CAR. IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE AN EXCESSIVE FREEPLAY ISSUE -- IN FACT THERE WAS NO FREEPLAY. IT APPEARS THAT THEY MADE THE STEERING WAY TOO LIGHT AND, ON TOP OF IT, VERY NONLINEAR -- THAT IS VERY SLOW STEERING RESPONSE AT THE CENTER. BECAUSE OF THIS THE CAR DOESN'T IMMEDIATELY STEER UNLESS YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL ABOUT TWO INCHES. I'M SURE TOYOTA DID THIS WITH SAFETY IN MIND -- SO THAT THE CAR CAN'T BE SUDDENLY STEERED -- BUT THE END RESULT WAS UNSAFE STEERING INSTEAD. IT'S UNSAFE BECAUSE THE STEERING IS SO VAGUE THAT PEOPLE CAN UNINTENTIONALLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT NOT IMMEDIATELY CHANGING THE CAR'S DIRECTION BUT THEN IN A SECOND OR TWO CAR MAY VEER OUT OF CONTROL. *TR

THREE WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 25 MPH THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKES DUE TO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE UTILIZING ITS BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN INTO THE FLOOR BOARD AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE. HE THEN CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE PRECEDING VEHICLE CAUSING MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE, WHICH WAS A LARGER PICKUP TRUCK. THE POLICE ARRIVED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO ANY OF THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED HER TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, HOWEVER THEY WERE NOT RECEIVING ANY INCOMING CALLS. TO DATE, SHE WAS AWAITING A CALL BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 15,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND TO INCREASE THE SOUND OF THE RADIO LOUDER WHILE DRIVING TO AVOID THE GRINDING NOISE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,800.

THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A CITATION FOR SPEEDING WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. AFTER A WEEK, SHE WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD WHICH CAUSED HER TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, TOLD THEM THAT SHE REFUSED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THEY GAVE HER ALLOWED HER TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN FOR ANOTHER ONE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.

THE CONTACT CHECK THE PEDALS TO SEE IF THE FLOOR MAT MAY HAVE CAUGHT THE PEDAL BUT THE FLOOR MAT WAS IN PLACE. THE CONTACT THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND SOON AFTER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT FEELS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
ON FEBRUARY 11, 2010, WHEN I WAS DRIVING OUR NEW 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA FROM WILMINGTON TO PHILLY ON I95 AND MY HUSBAND WAS SITTING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WE FEEL OUR VEHICLE WAS CONTINUOUSLY VIBRATING.
