NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The back portion of the frame is completely rusted out, has a rot hole, and cracked. It is the same problem that has been happening to similar year model Tacomas, Sequoias, and Tundras. The FJ cruiser now needs to be included in this recall for rusty frame issues. I'm not even in a rust belt state. I'm in Florida. A rear end accident could cause the whole vehicle to collapse and make kill passengers in the back seats. Tons of other complaints filed here. There's a facebook group "FJ Cruiser Rusted Frame Owners Unite". Vehicle has been inspected by insurance for repairs, may just get totaled out as of this writing. No warning symbols or lights.
Excessive rust on frame components from inside frame rails. Failure of suspension mounting points at the rear axel. Failure of the rear cross member and hitch due all due to excess rust.
Frame structural rust/ fuel tank strap rust On going problem with this one and many others
RUST! Frame rust!
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to replace the gas tank trunk strap. The mechanic informed him that the undercarriage of the vehicle was extremely corroded and that the vehicle was not safe to drive. The local dealer was contacted about the failure and he was informed over the phone that the entire sub-frame of the vehicle needed to be replaced out of pocket. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,875.
Extreme frame rust
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated that the rear sub-frame was extremely corroded. The contact also stated the ABS warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the sub-frame to be replaced. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure with the ABS warning light illumination. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 204,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated while receiving an oil change, the contact noticed rusting to the undercarriage and the sub frame. The rust had caused the driver’s side rear axle bracket to fracture. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer nor an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 156,350
Due to rust on my 2007 FJ Cruiser, I've had many unexpected expenses. I first was losing brake pressure and my brake lines had to be replaced after breaking when in a mechanic's shop. I've also replaced all four calipers, all the rusted pulleys on the engine, lower control arms that were so rusted that they had to be cut out, and hub assemblies for both front wheels. The hub assembly lead to a failed vehicle inspection for safety concerns. The exhaust pipe literally broke apart near the rear frame crossmember and was sitting on it, so had to be replaced. The exhaust manifold rusted apart and separated from the engine block, leading to dangerous fumes in the engine bay and horrible gas mileage. The O2 sensors were rusted in place and giving poor readings and had to be replaced. Turning the steering wheel became difficult and that was due to being extremely rusty, so it had to be replaced. Shifter cable and PRNDL switch had to be replaced due to not shifting into drive or lower gears. The front differential drain plug was so rusted that the dealership would not attempt to remove it. Now there are holes rusted through the body mount brackets, as well as the passenger side floor. The cargo area's floor where the charcoal EVAP canister connects to the vehicle has completely rusted through, and one of the subframe brackets rusted so badly that it was taken off by hand. Both subframe brackets need to be replaced. The rear control arm mounts are very thin due to extreme rust. My mechanic is now replacing coolant lines because they have rusted through and started to leak, and gas tank straps which were on the verge of failing.
Rear cross member rusted completely through to the point of almost ripping off during towing. The remainder of the frame has excessive rust/corrosion that is not present on other vehicles of the same year.
This is a 2007 vehicle I have owned since 2009. One of the two Fuel Tank straps broke in April of 2021. This left one strap holding the tank in place. This happened while driving allowing the tank to drag on ground. I stopped before it became a more serious problem. The strap was completely rusted through. Both straps were replaced. The remaining strap had serious rust as well.
MY VEHICLES FRAME/ SUSPENSION HAS DETERIORATED TO THE POINT THE TOYOTA DEALER WONT PASS IT FOR SAFETY INSPECTION. THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION HAVE DISINTEGRATED. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE NEW AND IS IN OTHERWISE PERFECT CONDITION.
FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY AND STRUCTURAL SUPPORT IS NO LONGER THERE.
THE FRAME HAS RUSTED OUT BASED ON RECENT INSPECTION AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. IT POSES A SAFETY CONCERN.
Serviced 99% of the time at Toyota dealer. Within a week of having the vehicle serviced by the dealer, I noticed a rattling/banging. One gas strap had completely rusted through, and the other was hanging on by about a quarter inch of material. I always ask the dealer to inspect the frame due to the history of rust problems on FJs—they have never flagged anything but I inspect it as I can myself, but have no way to lift the vehicle up thoroughly. I also have the service fluid applied by Rust Check to prevent/inhibit deterioration. On a sidebar, this summer I was traveling on the interstate when the rear-most crossmember rusted out while I was using a hitch haul to move a dresser to South Carolina.
SEVERE FRAME RUST! I POKED MY FINGER THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE FRAME THIS MORNING. MOST ALL SCREWS, MOUNTING BRACKETS ETC ARE ALL RUSTED. OTHER COMPONENTS LIKE THE REAR DIFF, OIL PAN ETC ARE ALL COVERED IN RUST
I PURCHASED AN AUXILLARY GAS TANK ONLINE FROM A COMPANY CALLED 'TITAN FUEL TANKS' FOR MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. WEBSITE: HTTPS://TITANFUELTANKS.COM/CATALOG/PRODUCT/VIEW/ID/78/S/TITAN-TRAIL-TREKKER-II-4040387/CATEGORY/2/ I'M A BIT CONCERNED THAT THE PRODUCT MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD. THEIR WEBSITE SAYS: "SOME LIGHT FABRICATION MAY BE NEEDED ON STOCK/OE CARRIERS FOR FITMENT OF TANK"FOR ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS. I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT A "LIGHT FABRICATION" SOLUTION. I FELT (& MY BROTHER FELT) THAT TO CUT OUT SOME OF THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE CARRIER IN ORDER TO MAKE THE PRODUCT WORK (THE COMPANY'S SOLUTION) WOULD LEAVE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY STRUCTURALLY DEFICIENT. I HAD TO GO TO A LOCAL WELDER AND HAD A NEW SPARE TIRE CARRIER BUILT. TO HAVE TO DO THIS WAS MUCH MORE THAN 'LIGHT FABRICATION' AS STATED IN THE AD. THEIR SITE SAYS 'IT FITS THE STOCK SPARE TIRE CARRIERS (SOME MODIFICATIONS MAYBE REQUIRED) AND MOST OF THE POPULAR AFTERMARKET TIRE CARRIERS, THE TANK COMES WITH ALL OF THE HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL BRACKETRY, FASTENERS, AND ACCESSORIES FOR EASY MOUNTING ON YOUR OFF-ROAD RIG.' THIS WAS NOT MY EXPERIENCE AT ALL. 'EASY MOUNTING!' WHAT A JOKE. NOTE THAT THE IMAGES ON THEIR WEBSITE SHOWED THEIR PRODUCT SITTING SNUGLY BEHIND THE SPARE TIRE. MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE WAS SHOWN AS BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE PRODUCT ATTACHED TO IT. *SEE JPG IMAGES: WEBSITE AD.JPG, IMG_E6603, IMG_E6604. I'M A BIT CONCERNED THAT THE PRODUCT MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD. AFTER MOUNTING AT THE DISTANCE THE SPARE TIRE WOULD NORMALLY HAVE BEEN MOUNTED AT, ONE CORNER OF THE TANK TOUCHES THE HANDLE USED FOR OPENING THE BACK DOOR OF THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT RUB A HOLE IN THE TANK. THE PRODUCT MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR OTHER REASONS, IF YOU WERE TO INVESTIGATE. *SEE JPG IMAGES: IMG_2912, IMG 2917. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BOTH STATIONARY AND MOVING.
FRAME HAS SEVERE STRUCTURAL ROT AT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM MOUNT AND LEFT AND RIGHT UPPER CONTROL ARM MOUNTS AT THE FRAME. AND ADDITIONAL FRAME RUST IS THE REAR AXLE HOUSING HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT OF WEEPING OIL. THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD WHEN I HAD IT LOOKED AT. THIS FJ IS NO LONGER ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AT THIS POINT. IT WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT, THE FRAME IS JUST RUSTING AT AN ALARMING RATE COMPARED TO OTHER TOYOTAS I HAVE OWNED.
FUEL TANK STRAPS RUSTED, AS WELL AS MULTIPLE AREAS IN FRAME RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. ONCE VEHICLE WAS PUT ON A LIFT, MECHANIC SAID GAS TANK STRAPS NEEDED REPLACED AS WELL AS SOME REPAIR TO THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME.
I was hauling a hitch hauler in my hitch which was carrying a portable fish house that weighed approximately 80 lb. As I was leaving the parking lot, I heard a loud clunk noise in which when I look back the hitch hauler and my fish house were laying on the road. The vehicle behind me had to swerve out of the way. I had to haul the fish house to the side of the road and as I was inspecting my vehicle realized the hitch and the frame were cracked and not usable. I had to leave my equipment there because I had no way of hauling it back. I brought the truck to an auto body repair shop and there he told me that I have extensive damage and my frame was rotten. I paid him to repair the damage to the best of his ability. He said that the frame was too bad and that I would have to bring it to another specialist. Since then the front body mounts have rotted off.
The frame on my 2007 FJ cruiser is rusting very badly. There are large holes in my frame and I have had one of my rear sway bars rust all the way off. I feel like at any moment my car could just fall apart and cause me to wreck.
2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER HAS THE SAME ROT PROBLEMS AS THE TACOMA AND SEQUOIA...THERE ARE REPORTS ALL OVER THE USA AND TOYOTA HAS STILL NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON ROTTING FRAMES.I CAN'T EVEN HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED IT IS SO DECOMPOSED. I AM FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY WANT ME TO CALL THEM? HOW ABOUT KEEPING THIS INFORMATION IN WRITING MAYBE FOR A FUTURE LAWSUIT.
MY 07 FJ HAS ONLY 104K MILES ON IT. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DO TO THE UNDER BODY RUSTING AND FALLING APART. I HAVE SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY UP KEEPING MY FJ. I NOW WILL HAVE TO GET THE COMPLETE REAR AXEL AND OTHER COMPONENTS REPLACED BEFORE I CAN DRIVE IT AGAIN. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX THESE ISSUES. IT'S COMPLETE NEGLIGENCE THAT THIS TAKES PLACE TO SO MANY OF THESE VEHICLES. I'M JUST THANKFUL I GOT IT TO MY MECHANIC BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THE FJ WITH MY 4 1/2 & 1 1/2 YEAR OLD INSIDE. PLEASE MAKE THIS RIGHT.
THE FRAME HAS RUSTED AT ALL MAJOR WELDS AND ALONG THE FRAME COMPONENTS. VERY LITTLE METAL IS LEFT TO HOLD THE REAR SUSPENSION TO THE FRAME MOUNTS OF THE CAR. A TOYOTA BUMPER HITCH FAILED WHILE DRIVING WITH A TRAILER ATTACHED BECAUSE THEREAR CROSSMEMBER RUSTED THROUGH. THE REAR GAS TANK STRAPS ALSO RUSTED THROUGH AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED. GAS TANK WAS HANGING BY ONE STRAP.
I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AN INDIVIDUAL ON DEC. 12, 2020. LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. I BROUGHT IT TO THE BODY SHOP TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIX THE RATTLING SOUND THAT CAME FROM WHEN I HIT A BUMP. THE CARS BODY IS IN GREAT CONDITION. THE MILEAGE WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR WAS 183,800. I ASSUMED I MAY NEED TO DO SOME WORK ON THE CAR, BUT THE BODY SHOP TOLD ME THAT THE SOUND I WAS HEARING WAS DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE THAT HAD RUSTED SO BADLY THAT THEY WHERE CLOSE TO FALLING OFF. INCLUDING THE GAS TANK. THEY TOLD ME THAT FJ CRUISERS WHERE KNOWN FOR RUSTY UNDER BOTTOMS AND THAT I WOULD BE A SAFETY RISK TO MYSELF AND OTHERS IF I DROVE THE CAR. THEY ALSO SAID THE CAR WAS BEYOND NORMAL REPAIR. I WILL ATTACHED PHOTOS THEY SENT ME. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR 1,500 MILES AND IT IS CONSIDERED UNDRIVABLE AND UNFIXABLE. I GOT A SECOND OPINION. WITHOUT KNOWING THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST OPINION THEY CAME TO THE EXACT SAME CONCLUSION. EXCEPT THEY TOLD ME TO REACH OUT TO YOU.
MY DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT DOES NOT RETRACT ON MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER.
I own a 2007 FJ Cruiser with very low mileage (below 80,000). It has a terrible carriage rust problem. I thought I'd had it remediated, finally, after endlessly searching for someone to address it. Dry ice treatment and undercoating were applied recently. I replaced the wheels and tires, as well. All seemed well and it passed inspection. But, then the power steering started stiffening. So I had that attended to. The mechanic then told me the rack and pinion and a plethora of other issues were happening due to rust and corrosion - at an additional $$$$$$ cost. So far, this summer, I have spent close to $5,000 to resurrect this vehicle. I can't afford to invest anymore or justify doing so. I am looking to sell. But first I am investigating the FJ class-action against Toyota. I understand this class-action was denied in part last year in California. I plan to check any legal status that might still exist. My hope is that Toyota will acknowledge the problem with the FJs, recall and FIX the problem or at least reimburse me all my repair/remediation expenses. I know they won't do anything unless there is a lot of pressure and outcry to do so. Although, my FJ spent the first 16 years of its life in NJ (which many claim is the cause and of course is plausible - I don't disagree but not to this degree), it was not driven that much, garaged and well cared for. I did not really notice the rust issue until January 2021 when I took it to the local Toyota dealership. I think I was taking it there for an oil change. They were surprised that I'd driven it there because the brakes were so bad. I had it towed home and spent the next many months searching for someone to fix it. No one wanted to touch it until this summer 2023. The gentleman who dry iced and coated informed me about the lawsuit. I never received any kind of notice (thus far) from Toyota about any recall. So now I am garnering information and investigating the best I can. My FJ looks brand new except for frame corro
WIDOW WIPERS MOTOR FAILURE THE MOTOR OR THE ASSEMBLY AND ITS BUSHINGS DON'T HAVE PROPER SEALS WHICH ALLOWS WATER INTO DESTROY THE BUSHINGS BY NOT BEINGVABLE TO RETAIN GREASE TO PREVENT PITTING AND RUST WHICH RESULTS IN WINDOW WIPER FAILURE AND A 600DOLLAR COST OF REPLACEMENT OF MOTOR AND ARMATURE ASSEMBLY WHICH IS JUST FOR PARTS AS THERE IS NO AFTER MARKET AND LABOR COULD SEND THIS MISTAKE BY TOYOTA COSTING ABOUT 1000$ WHEN SAID AND DONE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND REDESIGN AND ITS NOT JUST THE FJ MODEL ITS MANY TOYOTA VEHICLES.
FUEL TANK STRAP RUSTED THROUGH, ALMOST LOST MY FUEL TANK. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE FRAME IS HAS ALSO DEVELOPED RUST ISSUES.
Our 2007n Toyota FJ only has 135, 000 miles on it and runs well. We love the vehicle and have a severely rusted out frame. the truck has been adequately maintained but is now unsafe to drive. There are several large areas of rusted frame that are gone, motor mounts have fallen off the frame, the rear axle is barely hanging on because the rear frame is brittle. on the passenger side almost 3 feet of frame is gone from the underside of the vehicle. There is very little metal left to weld to making repairs not possible. Toyota Corperate refuses to assist us and we are stuck with a vehicle that is near total failure.
SEVERE SUSPENSION BRACKET RUST ON MULTIPLE REAR AND FRONT COMPONENTS. I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WHEN BRAKING BUT MY ENTIRE CAR SWAYED WHEN THE REAR LATERAL SUPPORT BAR BRACKET BROKE RIGHT OFF THE MOUNT THAT IS WELDED TO THE REAR DUE TO RUST. I THEN INSPECTED AND FOUND MULTIPLE RUST AREAS ON FRAME AND OTHER SUSPENSION BRACKETS. MAKING THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM AWARE OF TOYOTA'S ONGOING DILEMMA WITH USING THIS HORRIBLE UNTREATED STEEL AND HOPE THE NHTSA ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL CORROSION THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NEGLECT IN SAFETY BY NOT HAVING THIS STEEL TREATED ON SUCH CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF A VEHICLES FRAME. HAD THIS INCIDENT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH OR GREATER. SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH CAN OCCUR. IF I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER HAVING THIS ISSUE ON TOYOTA FJ CRUSIER VEHICLES. I HOPE THE NHTSA ENFORCES A RECAL ON THESE FRAMES AND/OR CRITICAL SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. MY VEHICLE IS 16 YEARS OLD, I PURCHASED IT FROM A DEALER WHOM RECIEVED IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WITH 57,000 MILES ON IT. NOW CURRENTLY AFTER 4 YEARS OF OWNING THIS FJ CRUISER I ONLY HAVE 71,000 MILES ON IT. HAD THIS BRACKET CAUGHT ONTO MY BRAKE LINES WHICH IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BELOW THIS REAR BRACKET I WOULD HAVE LOST ALL ABILITY TO STOP MY VEHICLE.
UNDER CARRIAGE, IS RUSTING AWAY ! VEHICLE, ONLY HAS 97,000 MILES ON IT. MECHANIC, SAID THE VEHICLE IS FALLING APART, WITH RUST...
MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SCHOOL WHEN HE HEARD A RATTLE/BANG WHEN HE TOOK A CORNER OR WENT OVER A BUMP. HE TOLD ME ABOUT THE NOISE AS SOON AS HE GOT HOME. WE TOOK THE FJ OUT FOR A DRIVE AND I HEARD THE NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. UPON INSPECTING THE EXTERIOR DRIVERS SIDE I FOUND THAT THE LEFT SIDE, REAR TRAILING ARM MOUNTING POINT AND A SECTION OF THE FJ'S FRAME, HAD TORN AWAY FROM THE FRAME. THE TRAILING ARMS WAS NOT FLOATING, UNATTACHED. WE ARE VERY LUCK THAT THE TRAILING DID NOT DROP WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME, AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVEN INTO THE PAVEMENT, POSSIBLY CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE, WHO CAN PROVIDE NOT SOLUTION ON HOW TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. AGAIN, I AM LUCKY MY SON WAS ON SECONDARY ROADS AND NOT THE HIGHWAY AND THE TRAILING ARM FELL TO THE PAVEMENT.
Took the vehicle in for maintenance at a service center. The mechanic expressed his concern with the amount of rust on the frame on the passenger side and told me that it will soon be a safety concern. He showed me by pulling chunks off of frame with his fingers. The vehicle now sits in the garage.
UPON STATE INSPECTION, SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION WAS DISCOVERED ON THE FRAME. NOT ONLY DID IT FAIL INSPECTION, MY MECHANIC STRONGLY URGED ME NOT TO DRIVE IT, AS THE REAR AXLE HAS A POSSIBILITY OF FALLING OUT.
TOYOTA'S HAVE BEEN HAVING RUST ISSUES WITH FRAMES. A GOVERNMENT MANDATED FIX FOR TUNDRAS AND TACOMAS HAVE BEEN APPROVED, BUT NOT FOR FJ CRUISERS, EVEN THOUGH IT'S A SIMILAR MODEL. I NEED TO HAVE MY FRAME RUST ISSUES FIXED IN ORDER TO PASS INSPECTION.
GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE FRAME DETERIATED ON FJ CRUSIER WITH ONLY 72000 MILES ON IT WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN HOW UNSAFE FRAME IS IF STRAPS GAS TANK HANGING
DRIVER SEAT AND PASSENGER SEAT HEATING UNIT IS COMING ON WITHOUT THE SWITCH TURNED ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR TIRE REPAIRS AND THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND THE SUBFRAME WAS ALSO SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.*DT THE CONSUMER PROVIDED PHOTOS. *TR
THE HEATING UNIT UNDER BOTH FRONT SEATS ARE COMING ON WITHOUT THE SWITCH ON. AFTER TUNING SWITCH ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES IT WILL GO OFF,BUT IT COMES BACK ON. ON 11/19/14 THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEH. RECALL #14V743000. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A COUPLE MONTHS.
A FEW MONTHS AGO I WAS DRIVING AND VEHICLE BECAME IRATIC. DISCOVERED CONTROLS ARMS BROKE FRAME OFF. UPON WELDING BACK ON FOUND OUT FRAME HASE SEVERAL LARGE HOLES AND REAR CROSSMEMBER IS ALMOST GONE.
A FEW MONTHS AGO I WAS DRIVING AND VEHICLE BECAME IRATIC. DISCOVERED CONTROLS ARMS BROKE FRAME OFF. UPON WELDING BACK ON FOUND OUT FRAME HASE SEVERAL LARGE HOLES AND REAR CROSSMEMBER IS ALMOST GONE.
MY 2007 FJ CRUISER HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH RUST. THIS INCLUDES BEING INFORMED TODAY THAT THE FRAME HAS HOLES THAT HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. I HAVE ALREADY PUT A LOT OF MONEY INTO THE VEHICLE REPLACING RUSTED PARTS INCLUDING REPLACING THE FUEL TANK STRAPS LAST YEAR, PARTS OF THE SUSPENSION AND RADIATOR. THIS SEEMS EXCESSIVE DAMAGE DUE TO RUST AND CREATES AN UNSAFE TOYOTA PRODUCT.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING NOTHING, BUT PROBLEMS WITH KEEPING MY FJ ALIVE. IT WON'T EVEN KEEP A HOLD LONGER THAN A FEW HOURS. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL TANK AS I CAN NEVER GO LOWER THAN 1/4 OF A TANK BECAUSE IT WILL DIE. I HAVE READ THAT OTHER FJS HAVE HAD THEIR FUEL PUMPS REPLACED UNDER RECALL AND I WOULD LIKE MINE DONE AS WELL.
IT HAS TAKEN A FEW YEARS SINCE I KEEP MY FJ CRUISER GARAGED, BUT I FOUND A SOUND MAT ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOORS THAT RETAIN WATER AND CAUSE RUST. MY PROBLEM RIGHT NOW IS IN THE LEFT DOOR (DRIVER'S SIDE) AND THE RUST FROM INSIDE THE DOOR HAS FINALLY MADE IT'S WAY COMPLETELY THROUGH THE DOOR. I AM ATTACHING PHOTOS SHOWING THE PERFORATION WHICH IS WELL OVER 1/8 OF AN INCH DEEP. I ONLY HAVE 57450 MILES ON MY VEHICLE DUE TO BEING OVERSEAS IN SYRIA, IRAQ, AND AFGHANISTAN AS A CIVILIAN DOD WAR ZONE PILOT SO WEATHER AND RAIN HAVE NOT BEEN AN ISSUE WHILE IT WAS GARAGED. VEHICLES ARE DESIGNED TO LET WATER IN THE DOOR THEN DRAIN THROUGH THE DRAIN HOLES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR BUT TOYOTA BUT THIS SOUND MAT ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR WHICH CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR MYSELF AND A FEW OTHER UNFORTUNATE FJ CRUISER OWNERS. KNOWING THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM / DEFECT FROM TOYOTA, I FEEL THEY SHOULD COVER THE REPAIR BECAUSE THIS ISSUE IT OUTSIDE OF NORMAL USE DUE TO IT'S DESIGN. I LIVE INLAND AND SALT FREE DOWN HERE IS FLORIDA SO ROAD SALT OR ROAD CHEMICALS CANNOT BE BLAMED. ALL I CAN DO FOR NOW IS FILL IN THE HOLES AND USE TOUCH UP PAINT WHICH RUINS THE APPEARANCE OVERALL OF MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS KEPT IN TOP NOTCH SHAPE INSIDE AND OUT AND THIS DOOR NOT ONLY LOOKS BAD, BUT OVER TIME WILL COMPLETELY RUST THROUGH COSTING MY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.
took the vehicle to a toyota dealership which stated the frame is dangerous and rusted very badly. they told me to file a complaint since the delaer was not covered under the lemon law
PREMATURE FRAME AND SUSPENSION RUST. I WORRY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE WITH HIDDEN RUST POSSIBLY CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.
