Rusted frame. The factory trailer hitch failed because of frame rot and dropped a travel trailer to the ground while towing. Luckily it did not cause an accident and I was able to get another vehicle to tow the travel trailer. I am part of a Facebook group for FJ Cruiser rusted frame owners. This is a common problem on FJ Cruisers and should have been a recall as Toyota did for similar vehicles of the same years that had the same rusted frame issues.
FRAME SEEMS TO BE RUSTING QUICK. AIR CONDITIONING WATER DRAIN AND RUN OFF HITS FRAME AND RUSTS IN THAT SPOT
FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS HAVING WHOLE SPOTS AND UNSAFE THE DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE IS NO RECALL IN THIS VEHICLE. EVEN THERE IS FRAME RECALLS FOR THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CARS. WHY NOT MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE RECALLS. I WANT TO GET INTO BOTTOM OF THIS.
I AM THE THIRD OWNER OF A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER, THIS VEHICLE HAS MAJOR RUST OVERTAKING THE FRAME AND ALL SUSPENSION PARTS AND MOUNTS, EVEN THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME IS RUSTING OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A REGULAR ISSUE. I AM VERY CONCERNED I AM GOING TO HAVE SUSPENSION PARTS BREAK OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING, I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK STRAPS THAT RUSTED IN HALF WHILE DRIVING DOEN THE HIGHWAY.
THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE GAS TANK UP UNDER THE VEHICLE HAVE RUSTED AWAY AND THE GAS TANK HAS FALLEN OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS NEAR MY HOME.
REPEATED BEADING ISSUES. FORCED TO REPLACE RIMS.BEADING ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED OVER MULTIPLE YEARS...SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR NEW.
SEVERE RUST ON CRITICAL SUSPENSION COMPONENTS DESPITE FREQUEN UNDERCARRIAGE WASHING AND CARE. CONTROL ARMS AND TANK STRAPS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND MOUNTS WELDED
I AM ONE OF THE ORIGINAL PURCHASERS OF A 2007 FJ CRUISER IN AUGUST OF 2006. I ORDERED MY VEHICLE IN JULY 2006. I RECEIVED A SCALE MODEL OF MY FJ WITH SERIEL NUMBER BELOW 500, WHICH I WAS TOLD INDICATED THAT I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST 500 PURCHASERS OF THE NEW MODEL I HAD READ ON THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED FJCRUISERFORUMS.COM THAT THE NEW FRAMES WHERE ARRIVING WITH RUST ON THE WELDS. WHEN MY VEHICLE ARRIVED I POINTED OUT RUST ON THE FRAME JUST FROM SHIPPING AND TOLD THE DEALER THAT I NEEDED THE FRAME UNDERCOATED. I ALSO SHOWED THE DEALER THE FJ CRUISER FORUM POSTS THEY COMPLIED. I HAVE USED THIS VEHICLE FOR WORK FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN ALMOST WEEKLY FOR AN UNDERCARRIAGE WASH IF I WAS USING IT WEEKLY. MOST ALL OF MY MILES ARE HIGHWAY. THE RUST HAS NOT ABATED. I HAVE WIRE BRUSHED THE FRAME MULTIPLE TIMES, SPRAYED IT WITH RUST PREVENTIVE PAINT, SQUIRTED OIL INSIDE THE FRAME. IT STILL HAS NOT STOPPED THE RUST. NOW I FINALLY HAVE A HOLE IN THE FRAME. IT IS NOT IN A CRITICAL AREA BUT I CANNOT TELL IF THERE ARE AREAS THAT IT MAY ALSO BE WEAK. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED TO FRAME ISSUE ON THE TACOMA AND TOYOTA SEQUOIA. ARE THEY NOT ADDRESSING THIS BECAUSE THERE ARE FEWER OF THE FJ'S ON THE ROAD? THIS FRAME SHOULD BE REPLACED. IT WAS DEFECTIVE WHEN IT WAS SOLD.
SEVERE RUST ON THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE HAS RENDERED THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY UNDRIVEABLE
VEHICLE WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND MULTIPLE HAZARD LIGHTS CAME ON, ALARM CAME ON, AND AS DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DOWNSHIFTING WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE USED TO STOP IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION.VISUAL INSPECTION REVEALED NO BRAKE FLUID IN MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ON DRIVERS REAR BRAKE CYLINDER.PICS ATTACHED.PRIOR REPORTS APPEAR OF THIS FJCRUISER ISSUE BUT ONLY TACOMA VEHICLES RECALLED.I AM CONTACTING MY LEWISVILLE TOYOTA WHERE I PURCHASED VEHICLE.
THE FRAME IS EXTREMELY RUSTY ON ALL OF THE FJ CRUISERS, JUST LIKE THE TACOMA AND SEQUOIA. THERE IS NO PAINT OR UNDERCOATING APPLIED ON THE INSIDE OF THESE FRAMES SO THEY RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
MY VEHICLE IS GETTING PRETTY RUSTY, EVEN WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING. THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS PRETTY SOON ARE GOING TO BECOME UNSAFE. I'M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK ANYMORE, THE VALUE IS STILL PRETTY HIGH, IT JUST HAVE 118.000 MILES.
FRAME AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ARE VERY RUSTY TO THE POINT OF A SAFETY CONCERN. I REPLACED THE REAR BUMPER WITH AN AFTERMARKET ONE TO DISCOVER THE REAR BUMPER SUPPORT WAS SO RUSTED IT WOULDN'T BE OF ANY HELP IN THE EVENT OF BEING REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER CAR. ALSO, THE REAR BUMPER COMES STOCK WITH 2 SENSORS SO WHEN BACKING UP WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU GET CLOSE TO SOMETHING. BOTH SENSORS WERE NON-TRANSFERABLE TO THE NEW BUMPER BECAUSE THEY WERE SO RUSTED ON THE INSIDE WHEN YOU TRIED TO REMOVE THEM THEY CRUMBLED INTO BITS, A COMBINATION OF METAL AND PLASTIC. THE RUST WORKED ITS WAY UP THE WIRES AS WELL. NUMEROUS BRACKETS UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK WHICH HOLD WHAT APPEARS TO BE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO OPERATE. IF ONE OF THESE COMPONENTS BROKE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I WOULD NEED TO BUY NEW BRACKETS ALONG WITH THE NEW COMPONENT - NEW SCREWS WOULD ALSO BE REQUIRED ALONG SIDE A HOLY PRAYER THAT THE OLD SCREWS DON'T SNAP OFF WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THEM. BY THE TIME I WAS DONE PAYING OFF MY VEHICLE AND HAVING MORE FREE INCOME TO PUT TOWARDS OTHER PRIORITIES I WAS CONSISTENTLY DELAYED WITH REPAIRES THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO KEEP FUNCTIONING. I HAD TO PAY FOR NEW TRANSMISSION LINES BECAUSE THE ONES ON THERE WERE SO RUSTED, IN A LUMP SUM I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR. POWER STEERING LINES WERE REPLACED ONCE AND THE POWER STEERING STILL HAS AN ISSUE HOLDING FLUID. I AM GOING TO CHOSE TODAY'S DATE AS THE DATE THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE NOW I AM AT MY WIT'S END WITH THE RUST. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO HAVE THE A/C RECHARGED TO BE TOLD ITS GOING TO BE ABOUT $2000 TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES AND THE CONDENSER THAT IS RUSTED PLUS LABOR. WHILE ON THE LIFT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME TO COME TAKE A LOOK UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK AND HE SHOWED ME HOW EXTENSIVE THE RUST HAS BECOME AND THAT I MIGHT NEED TO HAVE SOME WORK DONE ABOUT THE RUST FIRST BEFORE HE CAN FIX THE A/C.
PURCHASED A 2007 FJ CRUISER USED AND DISCOVERED THE FRAME IS RUSTING AND DETERIORATING AT AN ALARMING PACE. THE DAMAGE IS EXTENSIVE AND HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN ONGOING FOR QUITE SOMETIME.
HAD A VIRINA SAFETY INSPECTION PERFORMED ON 6-25-2020 AND IT WAS FOUND THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER WITH 101000 MILES. NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY BUT VEHICLE IS NOT OPERABLE DUE TO STRUCTURAL FAILURE COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. *TR
FRAME IS RUSTED UNDERNEATH. CAR LOOKS AND DRIVES PERFECTLY. I CRAWLED UNDER AND THE ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTED. I PURCHASED FROM A DEALER TWO WEEKS AGO. IT HAD 2 OWNERS AND LESS THAN 100000 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING AROUND 45 MPH THE FJ BECAME LOOSE AND LOW IN THE REAR. AT THE SAME TIME ALL THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE LOOKING FOR THE PROBLEM WE FOUND THAT THE LATERAL TRACTION BAR MOUNTS WELDED TO THE AXLE HAD ROTTED AND COLLAPSED SEVERING THE ABS WIRE. THE UPPER PART OF THE AXLE WAS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA DOES NOT OFFER A REPLACEMENT PART OTHER THAN A COMPLETE AXLE.
MY FJ HAS 63K MILES ON IT AND HAS RUST ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE INCLUDING THE SPRINGS, CONTOL ARMS, CALIPERS, FRAME, SWAY BAR, ETC...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH WITH A TRAILER ATTACHED TO HIS VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN VEERING TO THE RIGHT DUE TO HIGH WINDS. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE FLIPPED AND ROLLED OVER MULTIPLE TIMES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. BOTH THE CONTACT AND HIS PASSENGER WERE INJURED AT THE SCENE AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. BOTH PARTIES WERE TREATED FOR A CONCUSSION AS WELL AS SEVERAL CUTS AND BRUISES ON VARIOUS PARTS OF THEIR BODIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO DAMAGES TO THE TRAILER WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AT THE SCENE AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT TOW YARD. THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000.
THE ENTIRE FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED TO THE POINT OF BEING UNSAFE. THE CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY WASHED AND WELL MAINTAINED. ALL OTHER COMPONENTS ARE IN GREAT WORKING ORDER, BUT THE CAR NOW NEED EXTENSIVE FRAME REPAIRS TO REMAIN ROAD WORTHY. IN ADDITION, THE STRAPS HOLDING THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE RUSTED THROUGH AND NEARLY CAUSED THE TANK TO FALL OUT OF THE CAR.
The vehicles frame and other underbody components have rusted extremely badly. The fuel tank straps broke due to rust, the radiator splash guard fell off while driving due to being very rusty, exhaust clamps have also broken due to rust.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION BEYOND REMOVING THE LAYER OF UNDERCOATING THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD APPLIED I NOTICED THAT THE REAR MOUNTS TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE HAVE RUSTED AND BROKEN COMPLETELY OFF. FRONT AND REAR BODY MOUNTS ARE RUSTED WITH HOLES THROUGH MOST OF THE BRACKETS. NUMEROUS SPOTS IN THE FRAME ITSELF HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND SOME SPOTS HAVE REQUIRED PATCHING ALREADY. THE TRAILING ARMS ARE ALSO RUSTED THROUGH AS WELL AS THE SKID PLATE AND WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE FRAME AND THE RADIATOR SUPPORT IS RUSTED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE IS NOT CURRENTLY INSPECTABLE DUE TO THE FRAME BEING IN THE CONDITION THAT IT IS IN.
AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON 3 TIMES ALREADY NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENT AIR BAGS HAVE NEVER DEPLOYED SO WHY ARE ALL THE MODULES BAD AND THE ENTIRE AIR BAG SYSTEM I HEAR ALOT WITH THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL AND THE AIRBAGS STOP WORKING THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER IS BAD. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO TOYOTA; BAD GEARS IN 2007 MODELS. THEY CORRECTED IT IN 2010 WITH UPGRADED GEARS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY TOYOTA SINCE THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.MY FJ HAS ONLY 80,000 MILES AND NO REAR END SHOULD GO OUT AT THIS LOW MILEAGE.THE REPAIRS FOR THIS AT TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER IS $4,000.00. *TR
THE FRAME ON MY 2007 FJ CRUISER IS IN BAD SHAPE. MULTIPLE AREAS OF BAD EXFOLIATION CORROSION, FLAKING OFF IN LARGE CHUNKS NEARLY EVERY PART OF THE FRAME. BODY IS IN PERFECT CONDITION BUT THE FRAME IS TERRIBLE.
HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 4 YEARS AND RUST ON FRAME HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORST. VEHICLE HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO REAR SUSPENSION LIKELY TO COLLAPSE DUE TO HOLES IN FRAME. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND IF VEHICLE WHERE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT THE WHOLE STRUCTURE COULD COLLAPSE. VERY UNHAPPY WITH TOYOTA EXPERIENCE.
WHEN I CRUISE ON A HIGHWAY AROUND 70MPH, MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I WAS VERY SCARED BUT TRIED TO MOVE THE CAR TO CURB, THEN THE CAR DIED. ONE MINUTE LATER I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR BUT FAILED. I CALLED THE ROAD ASSISTANCE SERVICE. WHEN THEY CAME AND POURED IN ONE GALLON GAS IN THE CAR, THEN THE CAR WAS STARTED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT BEFORE THE CAR DIED, THE FUEL INDICATOR POINTER POINTED AT THE A QUARTER POSITION. THE FUEL EMPTY WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ON.
THE FRAME HAS MAJOR RUST , SCALING, HOLES AND FALLING APART MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE, I BOUGHT THE CAR IN TO BE REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD THE FRAME IS ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT , THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN TILL FRAME IS REPLACED OR REPAIRED
CANADIAN VEHICLE, FRAME IS RUSTED WITH MANY BRACKETS AND MOUNTS BEGINNING TO FAIL INCLUDING FUEL LINE GUIDES, GAS TANK STRAPS, SKID PLATES AND MOUNTS, SUB FRAMES BECOMING FLIMSY WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUMPY ROAD AND THE REAR GAS TANK STRAP BROKE DROPPING THE TANK TO THE GROUND DISCONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP AND LEAVING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE
FRAME AND PARTS BADLY RUSTED. PIECES FALLING OFF. BRAKE LINES NOW RUSTING. FRAME BADLY RUSTED AS WELL. INTERNAL FUEL TANK ISSUES WITH CORROSION
SEVERE RUST ON UNDER-SIDE OF VEHICLE. SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AT RISK OF DETACHING DUE TO RUST.
MY FRAM IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM
THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM BRACKET (OEM WELDED TO THE FRAME) BROKE OFF DUE TO EXCESSIVE ROTTING (PHOTOS ATTACHED). THIS BROKE OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT 30-35MPH. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED TO THE SIDE AND MADE IT UNSTABLE AND UNCONTROLLABLE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHILE I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I HAD BOTH OF MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME AND I AM CERTAIN THAT IF I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED IT WOULD HAVE CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BE OUT OF CONTROL EVEN WORSE AND MORE SO IF I WAS IN A TURN. I HAVE COME TO DISCOVER THAT MANY FJ CRUISERS ARE SUFFERING FROM THE SAME ROTTING ISSUE AND THAT TOYOTA HAS A HISTORY OF FRAME ROT ISSUES ON OTHER MODELS THAT HAVE SINCE BEEN RECALLED FOR REPLACEMENT. IN MY OPINION BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY FJ THEN IT WILL HAPPENED TO MANY OTHERS AND SOMEONE WILL GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED.
EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST FOR MILEAGE OF CAR 156K AS OF WRITING FRAME IS FLAKING/SCALING EVEN AFTER APPLICATION OF POR-15 TO TRY AND SALVAGE THE FRAME TO MAKE IT LAST A WHILE LONGER. REPLACEMENT OF TANK STRAPS AT 120K DUE TO FAILURE FROM RUST. CAR WILL BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN A SHORT PERIOD THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS FRAME/YEAR AREA AS TOYOTA ALREADY HAS REPLACED THE TACOMA FRAMES THAT WERE RUSTING/ROTTING THE SAME WAY.
FRAME HAS A LOT OF RUST. THE STRAPS TO HOLD THE GAS TANK BROKE DUE TO RUSTING. REAR BUMPER FRAME HAS ALSO RUSTED.
UNDERCARRIAGE IS COVERED IN RUST WORRIED ABOUT SHOCK MOUNT FAILING BECAUSE OF THE RUST ALONG WITH FUEL TANK STRAPS
ON DEC 30, 2019 I TOOK MY 2007 FJ CRUISER IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND SHORTLY AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF, I WAS CONTACTED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED TO COME BACK. THEY WANTED TO SHOW ME THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE FRAME OF MY FJ WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH WITH MULTIPLE HOLES IN RIGHT SIDE OF THE FRAME - SOME HOLES MEASURING OVER 5 INCHES IN LENGTH. IT CRUMBLED WHEN TOUCHED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE REST OF THE VEHICLE WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION BUT IT WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME. I HAVE FOUND OUT SINCE, THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2007 FJ CRUISER MODELS BUT TOYOTA HAS YET TO RECALL THE FRAMES. I'VE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAVE RECALLED OTHER MODELS DUE TO PREMATURELY RUSTED OUT FRAMES, BUT THE FJ'S HAVE NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THOSE RECALLS. I WAS STUCK IN TORONTO UNABLE TO DRIVE BACK TO NY, SO MY FAMILY INCURRED MASSIVE UNEXPECTED COSTS TO GET HOME, AND WORK & SCHOOL WERE MISSED BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION. I'VE BEEN TOLD IT WILL COST ME APPROX $15 - 20K TO GET MY TRUCK REPAIRED, BUT I BELIEVE THAT COST IS TOYOTA'S RESPONSIBILITY. IN THE MEANTIME IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE SO I'M WITHOUT A VEHICLE MAKING MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY FAMILY MORE DIFFICULT SEEING AS IT'S OUR ONLY VEHICLE... AND IT'S STUCK ACROSS THE BORDER IN TORONTO, CANADA. I HOPE TOYOTA RECALLS THE 2007 FJ CRUISER MODEL FRAMES ASAP - I'VE LEARNED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER FJ OWNERS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA WHO ARE DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE AND ARE VERY UNHAPPY WITH HOW TOYOTA IS DEALING WITH IT (OR I SHOULD SAY SEEMINGLY NOT DEALING WITH IT). I DON'T FEEL MY OTHERWISE PERFECT VEHICLE SHOULD BECOME AN OVERSIZED PAPER WEIGHT WHEN TOYOTA HAS DEALT WITH SIMILAR ISSUES IN OTHER MODELS - THE SOLUTION IS PRETTY CLEAR.
THE FRAME OF MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER IS RUSTING UNCONTROLLABLY. IT WAS "DESCALED" AND SPRAYED WITH PROTECTING FLUID. THE DESCALING REVEALED SIGNIFICANT FRAME RUST. BOUGHT MY FJ NEW IN 2007.WHEN I DID I ASKED IF THEY HAD RUSTY JONES OR UNDERCOATING AND WAS TOLD WITH THE NEW ALLOYS I DIDNT NEED IT. 3 WEEKS AGO I WAS HAVING MY MECHANIC CHECK THE BRAKES AND HE CALLED ME DOWN TO SHOW ME A BREAK IN THE FRAME CONNECTING TO THE BODY.THANKFULLY HE FOUND IT BECAUSE I WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO BOSTON THE NEXT DAY. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 139,000 MILES ON IT AND THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT SO ITS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM AND 2 REPS CAME DOWN FROM NH TO LOOK AT WHO BASICALLY TOLD ME I HAD A GOOD RIDE WITH IT AND THEY WOULD DO NOTHING.I THEN CALLED TOYOTA CEC AND WAS TOLD THE SAME. I BROUGHT TO A WELDER WHO SPECIALIZES IN THIS TYPE OF WORK AND WAS TOLD 5000+ IN LABOR ALONE AND THATS WITHOUT SEEING UNDER THE GAS TANK SO HE SAID IT WOULDNT BE WORTH IT AS HE BANGED OF THE RUST IN OTHER SPOTS AND THERE WAS NO METAL TO WELD TO LEFT.BRAKE AND FUEL LINES ARE SWELLED FROM THE RUSTY METAL TUBING.I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY AS I OFTEN TAKE MY GRANDKIDS IN THE FJ. SO NOW IM LEFT WITH MY OTHER FJ THAT I BOUGHT NEW IN 2008 WHICH IS OK UNDERNEATH.THE ISSUE IS WITH ALL THE 2007 FJ FRAMES LIKE THEIR TUNDRAS AND TACOMAS. I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH TOYOTA BUT THERE ARE SO MANY THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THESE ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE.THE BODY IS READY TO COLLAPSE ON THE FRAME. I PURCHASED THIS 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER FROM EBAY FROM A FELLOW IN NEW JERSEY. I WAS NOT TOLD OF ANY FRAME RUST PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE OR OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THERE BEING A COMMON PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE WITH OTHERS. UPON RECEIPT, I HAD THE VEHICLE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AND GONE OVER BY A AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP OWNED AND MANAGED BY A PRIOR GENERAL MANAGER OF THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR SHOP OF THE PRIMARY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. HE IS THE ONE THAT BROUGHT THE CONDITION OF MY FRAME AND ASSOCIATED PARTS AND FUEL TANK STRAPS AND BRACKETS TO MY ATTENTION. HIS OPINION WAS THAT MY SAFETY COULD BE COMPROMISED IF NOTHING WAS DONE AND APPRISED ME OF THE POTENTIAL COSTS.
MY GAS TANK STRAPS COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF LEAVING THE GAS TANK HANGING DOWN BELOW THE FRAME AND IN EXTREME COMPROMISED UNSAFE POSITION. MULTIPLE AREAS OF FRAME RUST COMPLETELY THROUGH NOT SUPPORTED BY EITHER END
FRAME IS RUSTING OUT- TRUCK ONLY HAS 142K ON IT. TOLD TODAY IT WILL PROBABLY FAIL INSPECTION NEXT YEAR AS IT BARELY PASSED TODAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND AFFECTS THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE TOYOTA HAS SETTLED WITH TACOMA, TUNDRA OWNERS BUT IGNORES ISSUE WITH FJ
MY FRAME HAS RUSTED TREMENDOUSLY TO WHAT I FEEL IS A DANGEROUS DEGREE. THERE ARE HOLES THROUGH SOME FRAME RAILS AND ALSO SOME NEAR THE SUSPENSION MOUNTING POINTS. MY FUEL TANK STRAPS RUSTED TO THE POINT ONE RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE, THE FUEL TANK WAS THEN HANGING DOWN CLOSE TO THE GROUND. NOT MANY MILES HAVE BEEN DRIVEN PER YEAR ON THIS VEHICLE.
MY VEHICLE IS PREMATURELY GETTING EATEN BY A RAPID AND UNCONTROLLABLY GROWING RUST ISSUE. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AS THE GAS TANK ALMOST FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE STRAPS BEING CORRODED AND THE FRAME IS GETTING WEAKER TO THE POINT I CAN FEEL THE BODY FLEXING IN SITUATIONS IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE FLEXING.
PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLAINT FOR STRUCTURAL FRAME RUST AND WHILE REMOVING COMPONENTS TO SEE IF THAT'S REPAIRABLE I FOUND 1 OF THE 2 STRAPS THAT HOLD THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE TO BE 90% RUSTED THROUGH AND THE OTHER ONE NOT FAR BEHIND.
FRAME SEEMS VERY RUSTED AS DO SUSPENSION COMPONENTS
I CAME BACK FROM A TRIP FROM FLORIDA DRIVING AND A WHEEL BEARING WENT BAD AND I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHEN I GOT BACK AND HE SHOWED ME MORE FRAME RUST THAT CONNECTS TO THE LOWER CONTROL ARM
A TOYOTA DEALER INSPECTION OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE FRAME OF MY TOYOTA FJ CRUISER, REFLECTS THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND IS OTHERWISE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE RUST IS SEVERE IN THE FRAME PILLARS, JOINTS AND ATTACHED COMPONENTS. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PROTECT PASSENGERS BECAUSE THE FRAME WOULD QUICKLY DISINTEGRATE. THE TOYOTA DEALER STATED THAT UNLESS TOYOTA ISSUES A RECALL THE COST TO REPLACE THE FRAME IS AT LEAST $15,000.
