EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST REAR BODY MOUNT .
RUST ON FRAME AND UNDERBODY OF VEHICLE CORROSION BEYOND NORMAL FOR VEHICLE
TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND CHECK A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK. DEALER FOUND LARGE AMOUNTS OF RUST ON FRAME AND SUSPENSION AND NOTED, "NOT RECOMMENDED TO DRIVE."
I REAR ENDED SOMEONE AND I WAS GOING 30MPH APPROX AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE CAR ENGINE AREA AND BATTERY CAUGHT ON FIRE
DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. A BOLT SNAPPED OFF UNDER THE SEAT FOR THE MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THE UP AND DOWN HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. THE SEAT WAS IN THE HIGHEST POSITION POSSIBLE WHEN IT HAPPENED AND AS A RESULT, THE SEAT DROPPED ABOUT 7-8 INCHES TO THE FLOOR, CAUSING A BACK INJURY FOR ME. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE DRIVER'S SEAT GEOMETRY WAS OFF SO SIGNIFICANTLY THAT THE BACKREST WAS RECLINED TOO FAR AND I COULDN'T SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD OR REACH THE PEDALS. I AM DISABLED AND IT IS A MIRACLE THAT I WAS' IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPAIR THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN MY VEHICLE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP NEVER INFORMED ME OF IT, EVEN THOUGH I HAD COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THE SEAT LOSING ITS HEIGHT SETTING. NOW TOYOTA WILL NOT REPAIR THE SEAT BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR AND IT HAS 111,000 MILES ON IT. THE SEAT MECHANISMS BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING OVER A ROUGH SECTION O CITY STREET IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA AT ABOUT 12 MPH. I WAS DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT WHEN IT HAPPENED. I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME WITH THE BROKEN SEAT BECAUSE IT IS TOO PAINFUL FOR MY BACK INJURY.
FRAME RUST - FRAME IS RUSTED SO BAD MECHANIC AND LOCAL DEAL SAID VEHICLE IS NOT ROAD WORTHY. IF I HAD NOT TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC BEFORE SERVICE AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE REPAIRS, I WOULD HAVE DRIVEN ON A 2400 MILE VACATION ACROSS COUNTRY WITHOUT KNOWING THE DANGER OF A FAILING FRAME. MY INITIAL COMPLAINT IS I WAS UNAWARE OF ANY FRAME ISSUES WITH TOYOTA TRUCKS, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GENERAL RECALL/INSPECTION OF ALL TOYOTA FRAME VEHICLES FOR SAFETY INSPECTIONS. SECOND COMPLAINT IS THERE IS NO RESOLUTION AT THIS TIME, MECHANIC SAID IT COULD TAKE MONTHS TO GET AN ANSWER FROM TOYOTA AND EVEN THEN NOT SURE THEY WILL FIX IT. NOW I AM WITHOUT A VEHICLE.
WENT AND FILLED MY FJ CRUISER WITH GAS AND SOON AS I DID STRAP HOLDING FRONT OF GAS TANK UP SNAPPED ON BOTH SIDES JUST BOUGHT DAY BEFORE KINDA DISAPPOINTING BUT MAINLY A HUGE HAZARD TO BE DRIVING WITH 140+POUNDS OF GAS HANG THAT LOW FOR A QUICK FIX HAD TO START WITH BUNGEE CORD
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated upon inspection, the mechanic discovered that severe corrosion had formed on the entire undercarriage of the vehicle. Prior to the discovery, the contact stated that an unknown part had separated and detached from the vehicle in his driveway due to the corrosion. The dealer then took several pictures of the corrosion on the vehicle. The contact was warned by the dealer to not drive off road or use the vehicle to tow due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Vin was not available.
THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WE'RE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT . I FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I NOTICED MY TANK WAS HANGING DOWN AFTER ARRIVING AT A DESTINATION . I DROVE HOME CAREFULLY AND JACKED THE VEHICLE UP CLIMBED UNDER TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE STRAPS WERE DISINTEGRATED. I NOTICED HOW RUSTY THE FRAME WAS LOOKING SO I POKED IT WITH MY FINGER AND MY FINGER WENT RIGHT THROUGH . I HAVE TAKEN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE BUT NOTHING COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FRAME RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND IS MOST LIKELY A DESIGN FLAW IN ENGINEERING BY TOYOTA .
THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION INTO REPORTS OF FRAME RUST AND CORROSION PROBLEMS FOR THE 2007 ' 2014 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THIS IS THE SAME ONGOING SAFETY PROBLEM AS THE SEVERAL PAST RECALLS ON OTHER FULL FRAMED TOYOTA VEHICLES. EXCESSIVE FRAME CORROSION 'ROT' STARTING IN JOINTED METALS WITHIN THE FRAME STRUCTURES IS RUSTING FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE INSIDE OUT. IN RECENT OBSERVATIONS NON-JOINTED RUST METAL IS ALSO SUFFERING RUST THROUGH IN OTHER PARTS OF THESE FRAMES. MY PERSONAL VEHICLE EXHIBITS ALL THE SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE RUSTING INCLUDING ONE RUST THROUGH HOLE AT THE REAR CROSS MEMBER LOCATION UNDERNEATH THE REAR BUMPER. THIS LOCATION IS NEITHER ACCESSIBLE NOR VISIBLE WITHOUT THE BUMPER REMOVED. THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE CROSS MEMBER EXHIBITS LARGE SEVER FLAKING RUST PRESENT BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE FRAME. THE MAIN FRAME, LOCATION BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL, EXHIBITS SEVERS LARGE FLAKING RUST INSIDE THE FRAME. THE OUTSIDE WITHIN THIS AREA ALSO CONTAINS A HALF SIZE DOLLAR RUST AREA THROUGH THE FIRST FRAME LAYER THAT INITIALLY APPEARED AS SURFACE RUST. IN CONCLUSION WHAT APPEARED AS NORMAL SURFACE RUST CAN INDEED BE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY CONCERNS. THE FRAME IS RUSTING INSIDE OUT AT AN ALARMING FAST RATE, MUCH FASTER THAN THE 60'S FJ40 FRAMES I HAVE RESTORATION EXPERIENCE WITH. I WAS INFORMED PER MY DEALERSHIP THE RUST WOULD BE DOCUMENTED BUT NOT CONSIDERED ABNORMAL AND NO RECALL WAS IN PLACE.
THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION INTO REPORTS OF EXCESSIVE FUEL TANK STRAP RUST FOR THE 2007 ' 2014 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THIS IS SAFETY PROBLEMS THAT WILL MOST LIKELY RESULT IN THE FUEL TANK FALLING FROM THE VEHICLE CAUSING SERIOUS GASOLINE SPILLING LEADING TO A POTENTIAL EXPLOSIONS AND/OR ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS PERTAINING TO UNDERNEATH SPARE TIRE CARRIER HOLDERS DUE TO RUST IN MANY OTHER TOYOTA MODELS. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A MUCH GREATER SAFETY CONCERN. MY VEHICLE HAS RUST COVERING THE OUTSIDE AREA IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS. THE INSIDE AGAINST THE TANK IS NOT VISIBLE UNLESS REMOVED MAKING THIS EVEN MORE OF A DANGER DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO INSPECT THEM WITHOUT DISASSEMBLY. IN CONCLUSION WHAT APPEARED AS NORMAL SURFACE RUST CAN INDEED BE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY CONCERNS. THE FUEL TANK STRAPS CAN RUST INSIDE OUT CAUSING FAILURE AND NEED A PROPER PROFESSIONAL INSPECTION.
A FEW WEEKS AGO I WAS WORKING ON MY VEHICLE AND I HAD TO REMOVE THE REAR BUMPER THEN I FOUND THE CHASSIS DAMAGED BY SO MUCH DEEP RUST, THAT FOR A MOMENT I JUST THOUGHT TO BRUSH AND PUT AN ANTI CORROSIVE BUT THE DAMAGE IS NOT FIXED WITH BRUSHING AND PAINTING. I CALL TOYOTA FOR A FRAME RECALL AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY YET. MY VEHICLE IT'S NOT SAFE TO PULL ANYTHING. I ALSO FEEL THAT ONE OF THESE DAYS THE BODY CAN BE DETACHED FROM THE CHASSIS.
THE VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELT, THE SEATBELT RETRACTORS ARE LOCATED INSIDE THE REAR SUICIDE DOOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE REAR DOOR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE SITTING OR DRIVING ALLOWS MOISTURE AND RAIN TO COME INSIDE AND DRIP DIRECTLY ONTO THE SEATBELT, WHICH OVER A PERIOD OF TIME STARTS TO RUST THE THE SEATBELT TENSIONER AND CAUSE A MALFUNCTION, I AS WELL AS MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY SEATBELT DUE TO IT NOT WORKING. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH ALL MODEL YEARS, IT IS DANGEROUS AND THE PART COST 300$ AND WILL KEEP GOING BAD IN ANY WET CLIMATE, THERE ARE MANY ARTICLES ON THIS ON THE FORUMS, ALMOST ALL OF THE SEATBELT MALFUNCTIONS ARE DUE TO THIS DESIGN FLAW. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY PASSENGER SEATBELT AND NOW MY DRIVER SEATBELT.
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN INSPECTION AT MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TODAY. I WAS TOLD IF I'M GOING TO SELL IT OR TRADE IT IN THAT NOW WOULD BE THE TIME TO DO IT...THE TECH SAID THERE ARE SOME VERY WEAK AREAS ON THE FRAME AND THAT IT COULD FRACTURE WITH IMPACT OR MAYBE WILL EVENTUALLY BY HITTING A BAD POTHOLE. THERE IS A LOT OF CORROSION AND IT SEEMS ODD BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STORED ALWAYS IN A GARAGE AND ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT. IT'S BEEN MAINTAINED PERFECTLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MAINTENANCE MANUAL. THE CLERK TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA CAN'T FIX IT AND WON'T BE ABLE TO FIX IT ONCE THE FRAME FRACTURES. IT SEEMED FRIGHTENING TO ME THAT THEY SUGGESTED I SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE AND NOT DISCLOSE THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE. I HAVE READ THE EXTREME UNDERCARRIAGE CORROSION IS PRETTY COMMON AND OTHERS ARE HAVING WORSE ISSUES THAN I HAVE SO FAR. I HAVE ALSO NOW READ THAT THERE WAS A MASSIVE RECALL DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE WITH CORRODED FRAMES ON SEVERAL OTHER MODELS IN THE TOYOTA LINE IN THE VERY RECENT PAST THAT ENDED UP IN A MASSIVE, ALMOST 4 BILLION DOLLAR RECALL. I'M PRETTY SURE THE FJ SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN IT. I HOPE YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE IT MAY SAVE SOME LIVES DOWN THE ROAD. MY FATHER WAS THE DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH FOR STATE FARM FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND WAS ON THE BOARD OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY INSTITUTE AS WELL. HE INSISTED I REPORT THIS IMMEDIATELY AND WE BOTH HOPE YOU TAKE THIS INFORMATION VERY SERIOUSLY AS I AM NOT SOMEONE WHO COULD SELL A VEHICLE WITH SUCH AN INCREDIBLY UNSAFE FURTURE AND HOPE TOYOTA WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPLACE THE FRAMES ON THESE VEHICLES AS THEY HAVE WITH ALL OF THE OTHERS.
WENT TO GAS STATION TODAY TO FILL UP MY FJ WITH GAS AND THE FUEL TANK STRAPS BROKE IN 2 PLACES. THE BOLTED AND PINNED CONNECTIONS ARE STILL THERE BUT THE ACTUAL STRAPS HAVE DETERIORATED AND SNAPPED RIGHT IN HALF. THE FUEL TANK IS NOW HANGING DOWN COMPLETELY IN THE REAR. FIRST THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WHICH THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR AT ALL, NOW THE FRONT SEAT BELT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL AND NOW THE FUEL TANK IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF ON THE ROAD. WHAT A HAZARD.
WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE IT IS UNSAFE ON SLIPPERY WEATHER CONDITIONS. DIFFICULT TO CONTROL 3 TIMES I'VE USED THIS CAR ON ICY CONDITIONS GOING NO MORE THAN 35 OR 40 MILES AN HOUR AND I HAVE SLIPPED THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS EASTER AND THE CAR LITERALLY ROLLED OUT OF CONTROL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (JOHN ELWAY'S CROWN TOYOTA, 1201 KETTERING DR, ONTARIO, CA 91761), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD HANDLE THE SITUATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,209.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING 62 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RIDGEWAY SUNOCO SERVICE CENTER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT UNKNOWN PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED (T J TOYOTA INC, 6698 NY-56, POTSDAM, NY 13676, (315) 265-3350). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
DRIVERS SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT.
CRACKED SECONDARY STRUCTURE WITHIN THE ENGINE BAY ON BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE.
DRIVERS SEAT INTERNAL STRUCTURAL STEEL WIRES WELDS HAVE SEPARATED AND SHARP POINTED WIRE ENDS ARE PROTRUDING THRU THE FACTORY UPHOLSTERED SEAT COVERING. THE SEAT HAS AN INTEGRAL AIRBAG WHICH COULD BE PUNCTURED.
VEHICLE WILL NOT CHANGED GEAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE
Excessive corrosion on frame.
A MAJOR HAZARDOUS ISSUE WAS THE FUEL TANK STRAP BROKE DUE TO RUST AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY FOR ME A MECHANIC SPOTTED THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM BEFORE A POTENTIAL DISASTER HAPPENED OUT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENTIRE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE IS RUSTING AT OUTSTANDING SPEED AND PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. TOYOTA HAS PRESENTED A RECORD OF USING INFERIOR FRAMES IN THE PAST AND UNFORTUNATELY THE FJ VEHICLES WERE GIVEN THOSE INFERIOR, UNSAFE FRAMES AS WELL.
WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS NOT DOWN SHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR. SO WHILE STOPPED, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LUNG FORWARD AS IF HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FRONT OF THE CAR. THERE IS A VERY REAL POTENTIAL FOR THE CAR TO HIT A PERSON WHEN IT LUNGES FORWARD. SINCE REALIZING THIS PROBLEM, I INTENTIONALLY HOLD DOWN THE BRAKE HARDER THAN I SHOULD HAVE TOO. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION BUT I THOUGH THAT PARTICULAR ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROX 70,000 MILES AND ALTHOUGH THIS PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING FROM TIME TO TIME, IT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT TO WHERE I HAVE TO ASSUME IT EVERY TIME I COME TO A STOP.
READ DIFFERENTIAL HAS FAILED. YEARS AFFECTED ARE 2007-2009. IN 2010 TOYOTA ISSUED AN UPDATED STRONGER VERSION OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. WHEN DIFFERENTIAL FAILS IT CAN LOCK UP BOTH WHEELS AT HIGH SPEEDS THUS LOSING CONTROL. THERE ARE OVER 2000 COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND OVER 10000 COMPLAINTS WITH TOYOTA ALONE. IT IS NOT ONLY COSTLY IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. MINE BROKE AT 40 MPH AND I ENDED UP IN A DITCH. WHAT IF I HAD BEEN DOING 60 OR 70
MASTER CYLINDER FAILED - HAVE TO SLAM THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THEN I WAS STILL UNSURE IF THE CAR WOULD ACTUALLY STOP. HAD TWIN 3 YEAR OLD BOYS IN THE CAR, SCARED FOR OUR LIVES. DASHBOARD LITE UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE. SECOND SHOP DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILED MASTER CYLINDER. PARTS PLUS LABOR = $3,066. I WORK FOR THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND WE DON'T HAVE THAT SORT OF MONEY. WILL TOW IT HOME, HOPEFULLY FIND A USED PART, AND TRY TO REPLACE IT OURSELVES. THE ONLY REASON I'M LOGGING A COMPLAINT (BECAUSE CARS NEED REPAIRS AND I UNDERSTAND THAT) IS BECAUSE I'M SEEING THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT OVER AND OVER AGAIN "MASTER CYLINDER TOYOTA FJ CRUISER 2007". HOW CAN SO MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE GO UNHEARD? PLEASE HELP, MAKE THE MASTER CYLINDER RECALL APPLY TO THE FJ CRUISER. IT OBVIOUSLY SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE SEAT BELT IS STUCK IN THE OUT POSITION 24/7 AND WILL NOT RETRACT. IT IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM. IT IS KNOWN THAT THESE SEAT BELT RETRACTORS ARE FULLY RUSTED AND READY TO FALL APART. IT IS UNHEARD OF IN A VEHICLE THAT IS 10 YEARS OLD. IT MUST BE FAULTY CONSTRUCTION / ENGINEERING OF THE PART. TOYOTA WILL NOT HONOR ANY SUCH REPAIRS TO SAFETY EQUIPMENT, UNLESS 3 YEARS OR LESS, WHICH IS A SURPRISE BECAUSE ONE WOULD THINK HAVING THE LIABILITY OF FAULTY SAFETY EQUIPMENT SUCH AS SEAT BELTS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY AND POSSIBLE CAUSE OF DEATH DUE TO SEAT BELT NOT RETRACTING AT ALL. A SEAT BELT DOES NO GOOD IF STUCK IN THE ALL THE WAY OUT POSITION.
THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IN MY 2007 FJ CRUISER HAS FAILED TO FUNCTION. SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT TO THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE LIFETIME WARRANTY OF THE VEHICLE. INSTEAD, BAYRIDGE TOYOTA IS TELLING ME THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THESE PARTS REPLACED. I'M HORRIFIED THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE TO CORRECT, TOYOTA SHOULD ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIXING AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE. EMERGENCY BRAKES WOULDN'T GO ON

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE WITH EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST OCCURRING WITHIN 4 YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. THE RUST IS SO EXCESSIVE THAT THE TOYOTA DEEMED THE CAR TOO DAMAGED TO DRIVE BECAUSE A MAJORITY OF THE FRAME WAS TOO WEEK AND, THEREFORE UNSAFE TO DRIVE
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT OR PULL-OUT. IT IS PULLED ENOUGH TO SNAP INTO THE BUCKLE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS NOT PART OF THE SAFETY BELT RECALL THAT COVERED ADDED REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS. THESE REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS WERE ADDED TO THE FJ ON 4/6/2017. THE QUOTE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT MECHANISM WAS $330. I CANNOT CARRY A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT DUE TO THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION. IS THIS ISSUE COVERED BY ANY RECALLS?
I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS BY TOYOTA LISTED BY THE NHTSA FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING LONGER, WOBBLY STOPPING FOR A WHILE NOW. RECENTLY REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND IT GOT A LITTLE BETTER BUT NOT MUCH. HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL ISSUES I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER THAT HAS VERY BAD RUST PROBLEMS. I HAVE INCLUDED PHOTOS. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF INSIDE AND OUT. I OWN A 2014 HIGHLANDER, AND HAVE OWNED A SCION AND AVALON AND NONE HAVE HAD ANY RUST ISSUES. I HAD INTENDED TO TOW A BOAT WITH THIS BUT AFTER A TOYOTA OF KINGSPORT DEALER RUST INSPECTION HE SAID, 'THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF RUST UNDER THE TRUCK, IT IS NOT SAFE TO TOW WITH BECAUSE OF RUST DAMAGE. THERE APPEARS TO BE OTHER RUST DAMAGE TO CRITICAL AREAS OF THE FRAME'. I HAVE HAD OTHER MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND THEY ALL AGREE THAT THE FRAME NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND ANYTHING TOUCHING IT THAT IS RUSTED. ONE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE VENT FOR THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS RUSTED OVER PREVENTING IT FROM VENTING PROPERLY. WE REPLACED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID BUT HE SAID IT MAY BE IN POOR SHAPE ALSO. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF RUST AND IS DUE TO MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION PROBLEM OR POOR RUST COATING FROM THE FACTORY. I THINK THAT TOYOTA MIGHT WANT TO INVESTIGATE THIS VEHICLE AND DETERMINE WHY IT RUSTED SO BADLY. IF YOU NEED ADDITIONAL PHOTOS OR INFORMATION JUST LET ME KNOW. I REALIZE SOME OF THIS IS SURFACE RUST.
THE FRAME HAS RUSTED BEYOND EXPECTATIONS, WRONG KIND OF METAL OR LACK OF TREATMENT ON METAL CAUSING OXIDATION, CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE OF THE POWER STEERING BRAKING LOOSE AND CAUSING POTENTIALLY INJURIES OR DEATH TO PASSENGERS. VEHICULE IS AT HOME
VEHICLE IS SHOWING EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME AND UNDER-BODY. I HAVE AN OLDER VEHICLE THAT ALMOST HAS NO RUST. RUST ON THE 2007 FJ CRUISER IS MAINLY ON THE FRAME JOINTS AND THE REAR AXLE. CAR WAS DAILY COMMUTER FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS AND THEN BECAME A LEISURE VEHICLE DRIVEN MAINLY ON WEEKENDS AND OUTINGS.
AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON INTERMITTENTLY. I USED TO BE ABLE TO SHUT OFF AND RESTART AND IT WOULD GO AWAY, NOW IT STAYS ON EVEN IF I RESTART THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS 55,000 MILES, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, NEVER DAMAGED.
AT MILD ACCELERATION AND ONLY WHEN BETWEEN 1,000-2,000 RPM THE VEHICLE STARTS TO SHAKE / RUMBLE FROM THE REAR SIMILAR TO DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. THE RUMBLING STOPS AS SOON AS THE ACCELERATOR IS LET GO OF OR AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE'S RPM FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE 1,000-2,000 RANGE. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS COMING FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY. TOYOTA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO PROVIDE A FIX EVEN THOUGH THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE OF DEFECT IN DESIGN OR BUILD. OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROTECT THE TAXPAYER ON THIS ONE AND FORCE TOYOTA TO ENACT A RECALL.

I TOOK MY FJ TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID DRAINED AND REFILLED. THEY DECIDED TO DO A COMPLETE REVIEW ALTHOUGH I SEE NO TOOL MAKES THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO REPLACE MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL, AND TOLD ME AS IF THEY JUST KNEW IT WAS AN ISSUE. THE COST WAS $2360. I WENT HOME AND DID SOME VERY BRIEF RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR 2009 AND LATER FJ CRUISERS. IN 2010 THEY CHANGED THE REAR AXLE. A HUGE NUMBER OF OWNERS ON THE FJ CRUISE FORUMS HAVE POINTED OUT THE ISSUE. THE COST AT THE DEALER WOULD BE TO REPLACE IT WITH THE SAME PARTS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATES AND WOULD FAIL AGAIN. TOYOTA CLEARLY KNOWS THE ISSUE AND MORE THAN LIKELY KNEW WHEN PRODUCING THE ORIGINAL FJS. MY FJ HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD AND ONLY USED FOR NORMAL COMMUTING. I DON'T SPEED OR DRIVE POORLY, AND MY DRIVING RECORD IS COMPLETELY CLEAN. I FOUND A GOOD EXPLANATION ON AN AXLE WEB SITE. THE 2009 & OLDER FJ CRUISERS, 4RUNNERS, AND PRADO 120 UTILIZE THE 8' WHICH DATES BACK TO 1979, AND WAS ORIGINALLY USED IN 3000 LB MINI TRUCKS WITH 80 HORSEPOWER AND 27' TIRES. LATE MODEL MODIFIED TOYOTAS SUCH AS FJ CRUISER RUN AT DOUBLE THE WEIGHT, TRIPLE THE HORSEPOWER, AND MUCH LARGER TIRES TO TOP IT OFF. FOR THIS REASON THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF FAILURES, ENOUGH SO THAT TOYOTA UPGRADED THE REAR TO THE 8.2' ON THE 2010 & NEWER MODELS. IT MAY SEEM LIKE A SMALL UPGRADE BUT THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS SUCH AS BEEFIER CASTING, LARGER BEARINGS, LARGER PINION DIAMETER, LARGER RING GEAR DIAMETER, MORE TOOTH CONTACT, AND A BEEFIER 12 BOLT DIFF CASE. THIS MAKES FOR AN EASY SWAP FOR YOUR VEHICLE AND WILL UTILIZE YOUR EXISTING AXLE SHAFTS, BRAKES, ABS SYSTEM ETC. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS COULD FAIL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
REAR DIFF HAS GONE OUT AND IS MAKING A LOUD NOISE AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY KILL EVERYONE IN MY FJ IF ON THE INTERSTATE AND IS A PROBLEM TOYOTA IS AWARE OF. THIS SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL FOR PUBLIC SAFETY AND TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.

TOOK CAR IN YEARS AGO WHILE UNDER WARRANTY TO FIX AND RESOLVED PROBLEM FOR A FEW YEARS BUT IS NOW REOCCURRING. ALSO DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WINDOW SWITCH INTERMITTENLY WORKS. I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS CONNECTED TO WIPER SWITCH BUT HAVE SEEN RECALLS ON OTHER TOYOTAS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND HAD A RECALL BUT NONE FOR FJ. SPECIFICS TURN ON CAR, TURN ON SLECTOR SWITCH FOR WIPERS "SLOW THRU HIGH IT DONT MATTER". WIPERS DONT WORK.
