WHILE UPGRADING TO STEEL BUMPERS FROM THE FLIMSY PLASTIC CRAP MOST VEHICLES COME WITH THESE DAYS, FOUND SIGNIFICANT FRAME ROT. SOMEHOW THE FJ CRUISER IS NOT PART OF THE PREVIOUS TOYOTA RECALLS. I CAN ASSURE YOU THEY'RE AT LEAST AS SUSCEPTIBLE AS THE TACOMAS ET AL. I'M NOW ON THE HUNT FOR AN AFFORDABLE REPLACEMENT FRAME, WHICH SEEMS TO BE MERELY A PIPE DREAM. I LOVE THIS VEHICLE AND WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO REPAIR IT BUT, COME ON TOYOTA. THIS IS NOT WHAT THE MARKET EXPECTS FROM YOU!
FUEL STRAPS RUSTED OUT WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND FUEL TANK FELL DOWN. HAD TO GET TRUCK TOWED AND FIXED.
FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAPS RUSTING OUT.. ALSO FRAME RUSTING ALL OVER. REAR SUPPORT LINKS CONNECTIONS ON THE FRAME ARE RUSTING OUT.
WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY AND LESS THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR, THANKFULLY ON A REGULAR, PAVED, LOCAL ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SUSPENSION SPRING SEAT AND STABILIZER BAR ATTACHMENT POINT ON REAR AXLE SUDDENLY, UNEXPECTEDLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING JUST TORE APART AND OFF OF THE AXLE HOUSING TO WHICH IT WAS MOUNTED AND THE RESULTING SHARP AND HEAVY METAL EDGED PARTS COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF A BRAKE LINE RELEASING ALL HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID AND CAUSING THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ALL NORMAL BRAKING ABILITY. THANKFULLY NOBODY WAS INJURED, BUT THE CAR CAN'T BE DRIVEN AT ALL NOW, BECAUSE IT HAS NO BRAKES AT ALL, OTHER THAN THE MECHANICAL EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND BY USING TRANSMISSION "BRAKING." LOTS OF RUST UNDER CAR SINCE WE BOUGHT IT USED FROM DEALER IN MORRISTOWN NJ, APPARENTLY DUE TO LOW QUALITY STEEL USED IN INITIAL CONSTRUCTION AND APPARENT LACK OF ADEQUATE FACTORY ANTI-RUST TREATMENT OF FRAME AND OTHER UNDERCARRIAGE PARTS. INTERIOR AND PAINTED TOP BODY PARTS SHOW NO RUST ISSUES. HOWEVER, THE UNDERSIDE, IS FULL OF LOTS OF RUST. THIS IS APPARENTLY A WELL-KNOWN, VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA FJ MODELS. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND IT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY! I'M MAKING PLANS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND POSSIBLE REPAIRS. FINALLY, AS FAR AS I AM AWARE, THIS CAR HAS NEVER DONE ANY SIGNIFICANT OR TAXING "OFF-ROADING."
CHASSIS HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. UPPER REAR CONTROL ARM MOUNT ON CHASSIS RUSTED OFF. CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN BRAKING. REAR BUMPER SUPPORT HAS HOLE IN FRAME FROM RUST. BODY MOUNTS ARE RUSTING OFF FRAME. BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED AND LEAKED FLUID. GAS TANK STRAP MOUNT IS VERY COMPROMISED BY RUST. FRONT RADIATOR SUPPORT EXCESSIVE RUSTING NUMEROUS SOFT SPOTS AND HOLES. MAJOR FLAKING , AND DELAMINATION OF FRAME ALL OVER. TRUCK HAS 98,000 MILE ON IT IT IS A MANUAL 4WD. LOCATED IN MICHIGAN.
FRAME IS ROTTED TO THE POINT OF BEING VERY UNSAFE
QUOTING TOYOTA EXACTLY, ' TECH INSPECTED FOUND FRAME ROTTING AWAY WERE LEFT REAR BODY MOUNT MEETS FRAME, CUSTOMER WAS ADVISED TO SPEAK TO TOYOTA NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE.' *TR
FRAME COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY FROM BODY OF CAR. ENGINE AND EXTERIOR BODY ARE IN PERFECT CONDITION DUE TO THE RUSTED OUT FRAME TOYOTA CLAIMS THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY WILL NOT TOUCH IT. SEE ATTACHED . THE FRAME LOOKS LIKE A PASTRY WOULD AS IT FLAKES AWAY IN LAYERS UNTIL THERE IS NOTHING LEFT.
FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY JUST AS THE TACOMA FRAMES DID IN THIS TIME FRAME OF MODEL YEAR. AFRAID THE VEHICLE WILL SOON BE UNFIT TO DRIVE DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. GAS TANK STRAPS ARE ALSO ROTTING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS COME TO LIGHT WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AND MY GAS TANK STRAP BROKE CAUSING THE TAKE TO DROP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE
ROTTED RUST ISSUE ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE.
STRUCTURAL FRAME RUST OVER THE ENTIRE FRAME AND FUEL TANK STRAPS.
DURING 2019-2020 STATE INSPECTION OF 2007 FJ CRUISER WITH 78000 MILES BY DEALER WAS TOLD THAT FRAME IS SO RUSTED THAT IT PROBABLY WOULD NOT PASS THE NEXT INSPECTION. EXPLANATION GIVEN WAS THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT MAKE THEIR FRAMES AS THICK AS OTHER MAKES. THIS VEHICLE WAS USED AS A DAILY DRIVER, NOT MUCH OFF-ROAD AND NO SERIOUS OFF-ROADING. I WORK FROM HOME, SO MOST YEARS LESS THAN 5000 MILES DRIVEN. ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS.
RUST HAS DECIMATED THE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE RESULTING IN THE CONTROL ARM MOUNT TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTROL ARM IS COMPLETELY IN TACT. THE PART THAT BROKE IS IRREPARABLE BECAUSE IT IS THE FRAME ITSELF. NO WELDING/BODY SHOP WILL TOUCH IT BECAUSE THEY DEEM IT UNSAFE EVEN IF WELDED BACK TO REST OF FRAME. IT IS BEING RECOMMENDED NOT TO ATTEMPT A REPAIR AND TO INSTALL A NEW FRAME. FORTUNATELY, THIS BROKE IN A PARKING LOT INSTEAD OF ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED OR WORSE. FRAME RUST HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA TRUCKS AS I UNDERSTAND BUT TO HAVE A FRAME ACTUALLY BREAK IS ABSURD.
RUST FOUND IN THE FRAME THROUGHOUT, TANK STRAPS AS WELL
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN GOOD CARE OF BUT, THE FRAME IS PREMATURELY RUSTING AT CONNECTING POINTS TO THE BODY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE LOOKS AND RUNS WELL BUT MIGHT BE A SAFETY RISK IN SUDDEN STOPS OF ACCIDENTS CAUSING VEHICLE BODY TO DISLODGE FROM FRAME.
I AM EXPERIENCING SEVER RUST, ESPECIALLY ON THE UNDERSIDE OF MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THIS HAS CAUSED THE EXHAUST MOUNTS TO BREAK, THE LOSS OF THE SKID PLATE WHICH DETERIORATED AS PARTS OF IT WERE TRYING TO HANG ON AND EVEN MY GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE! THE EXHAUST BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN FOR WORK BUT I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER AND HAVE A COLLEAGUE TEMPORARILY REATTACH IT. THE SKID PLATE HAPPENED OVER TIME UNTIL IT WAS IN PIECES AND HAD TO BE REMOVED THE REST OF THE WAY AND THE GAS TANK STRAP HAPPENED ON A ROAD TRIP IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN AND WE WERE ABLE TO RATCHET STRAP IT BACK IN PLACE FOR THE REST OF THE TIME. *TR
THE FRAME OF MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER IS HEAVILY RUSTED AND RUSTED THROUGH IN SEVERAL AREAS.
2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER, 125K MILES. MID-ATLANTIC AREA OF THE US. FRAME HAS EXCESSIVE RUST AND DEGRADATION. A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DURING A NORMAL SERVICE VISIT AND 2 INDEPENDENT MECHANICS CONFIRM IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE OR TO ESPECIALLY TOW TRAILERS. BOTH INDEPENDENT MECHANICS ALSO ADDED THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE BEFORE ON TUNDRAS, FJ CRUISERS, AND 4RUNNERS FROM THE SAME ERA. WELDMENTS IN THE FRAME ARE CORRODED AND RIDDLED WITH CRACKS. LARGE SECTIONS OF FRAME MEMBERS ARE ALSO VERY CORRODED WITH THIN WALLS/HOLES. BIGGEST CONCERN IS LOSS OF STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY WHICH COULD LEAD TO A MAJOR MECHANICAL FAILURE/ACCIDENT. LITTLE TO NO RUST ON THE BODY, HAVE DRIVEN OTHER TOYOTA AND FORD TRUCKS IN SAME ENVIRONMENT WITH NO RUST ISSUES AT 200K MILES. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA.
THE TANK STRAPS ARE RUSTED OUT. ONE IS COMPLETELY BROKEN, THE OTHER IS 75% BROKEN, AND THE SAFETY OF DRIVING IT IS COMPROMISED.
MY FUEL TANK STRAPS WHERE ROTTED OFF I HAD TO GO UNDER THE VEHICLE CHECK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO GET STRAPS REPLACED BECAUSE OF HOW ROTTED THEY WHERE
FRAME IS RUSTING & CRACKED IN VARIOUS PLACES. GAS TANK STRAP RUSTED / CORRODED COMPLETELY OFF LEAVING GAS TANK SAGGING IN THE REAR. THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED OVER TIME.
Frame rust and fuel tank strap rust
FRAME IS RUSTING BADLY
MY FJ CRUISER FRAME IS ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT, THE GAS TANK MOUNTING STRAP HAS BROKEN AND DUE TO FRAME RUST, THE MOUNTING POINT HAS FAILED AND BROKEN OFF THE FRAME. THE REAR BODY MOUNTS ARE DETERIORATING AS IS THE REAR FRAME CROSS MEMBERS. DUE TO THE FRAME RUAT AND GAS STRAP MOUNTING POINT FAILING, THE DEALER CANNOT REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE GAS TANK CANNOT BE CORRECTLY MOUNTED. OF THE 2ND GAS TANK STRAP FAILS, THE GAS TANK MAY FALL OUT. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL BODYSHOPS THAT ARE SURPRISED AT THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AMOUNT OF FRAME ROT PRESENT.
EXCESSIVE RUST OF THE FRAME. HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE HOLES IN STRUCTURAL AREAS SUCH AS THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER WELDS MEETING THE FRAME. FAILURE OF THE FRAME COATING ALL OVER. FRAME ROT FROM THE INSIDE CAUSING HOLES FROM THE INSIDE OUT. ALSO RUSTING FROM AREAS SUCH AS CONTROL ARMS, REAR END LINKS, AND DIFFERENTIAL MOUNTS. WILL PROVIDE MORE PICTURES WHEN I HAVE THE AVAILABILITY TO DO SO.
IN A SUDDEN STOP, TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE MY FRONT SEAT PASSENGER FLEW FORWARD HITTING THE DASHBOARD. THERE WAS NO COLLISION AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY.THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS DEFECTIVE. IT WON'T RETRACT INTO THE PANEL OF THE REAR DOOR. ON THE INTERNET, I NOTE >200000 FJ'S WERE RECALLED FOR DEFECTIVE LOWER RETRACTORS FOR THE FRONT SEAT BELTS, BOTH SIDES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS ADVISED MY FJ WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY.
UNSAFE FRAME RUST WHERE OTHER COMPONENTS CONNECT. SIMILAR TO ISSUES FOUND WITH TOYOTA TACOMA RECALL, WHICH HAS AN IDENTICAL FRAME AND DRIVETRAIN. THERE IS VERY LITTLE RUST ELSEWHERE ON CAR.
WHILE INSPECTING EXCESSIVE RUST FROM MY FRAME AND THE PARTS OF THE FRAME THAT HAVE FAILED (ALREADY REPORTED), WE NOTICED THE GAS STRAPS. THEY ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND OVER 3/4 BROKEN BECAUSE OF THE RUST.
MY VEHICLE HAS SUBSTANTIAL FRAME ROT IN THE REAR SECTION OF THE FRAME AND THE REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CUT OUT ROTTEN SECTIONS OF THE FRAME AND WELDED IN STEEL PLATES TO KEEP THE FRAME FROM COLLAPSING. I HAVE ALSO BOUGHT A NEW SECTION OF FRAME FROM TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE BUMPER REINFORCEMENT. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS ON FJ CRUISER FRAMES AND THAT THE FRAMES ARE NOT FAULTY. BUT THE AMOUNT OF FRAME ROT ON THIS 12 YEAR OLD VEHICLE SEEMS EXCESSIVE. I AM AFRAID THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD COLLAPSE IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION. SO FAR, NO COMPONENTS HAVE FAILED OR FALLEN OFF DURING DRIVING.
STRUCTURAL FRAME FAILURE FROM RUST
THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE FUEL TANK INTO THE TRUCK ARE MILD STEEL AND SIT IN A PAN THAT TENDS TO COLLECT WATER THAT IS SPLASHED UP WHILE DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS. ONE OF THE TWO THAT HOLD MINE IN DISINTEGRATED AND DROPPED THE TANK. THE OTHER IS NOT FAR BEHIND. THE REST OF MY UNDERCARRIAGE IS IN MUCH BETTER CONDIFTION THAT THE FUEL TANK RETAINING STRAPS WERE.
MY TRUCK HAS MODERATE RUST THAT IM CONCERNED WILL TURN INTO STRUCTURAL FAILURES AFTER SEEING THE FRAMES ON THE FJ CRUISER RUSTED FRAME OWNERS UNITE SITE. FRAME ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE CORRODED AND RIGHT REAR STABILIZER BAR COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE FRAME WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY
I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH RUST ON THE FRAME THE FRAME IS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT ALSO DEALING WITH RUST ON THE TANK STRAPS
I HAVE HAD TWO BRAKE LINES BURST IN THE PAST YEAR DUE TO RUST. BOTH TIMES I WAS LUCKY TO NOT HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED. BOTH HAVE BEEN THE BACK BRAKE LINES. THIS RUST SITUATION WITH THE FJ'S IS UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS! TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND THE SITUATION NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE A PERSON IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED.
I AM REPORTING THE ISSUE OF FRAME RUST AND CORROSION OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE AMOUNT OF CORROSION AND FRAME FLAKING IS ALARMING AND POSES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY FAMILY, OTHER DRIVERS AND MYSELF. SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAINTAIN AND FIX THIS ISSUE INCLUDING COMPLAINING TO TOYOTA THEMSELVES WITH LITTLE TO NO SUCCESS. THE AMOUNT OF RUST COMPARED TO MY OTHER VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY OUT OF PROPORTION. BODY MOUNTS ARE FLAKING AND CRUMBLING AND THE FRAME IS CORRODED AND FALLING APART FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
FRAME HAS COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED WHERE THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM LINKS MEET THE CROSSMEMBER, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE AND FAIL THE NH STATE INSPECTION. THE LINKS BROKE FREE WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION WE FOUND RUST PERFORATION ON FRAME RAILS WITH THIN AND FATIGUED METAL IN THE SAME GENERAL AREA.
I BOUGHT A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER AND THE BODY WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE COUPLE MONTHS GO BY AND I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE POINTS OUT HOW I HAVE A HOLE IN MY FRAME AND AS WELL AND A HOLE WHERE THE WELDS TO THE FRAMES ARE AS WELL
FRAME RUST ON THIS VEHICLE IS OVERWHELMING. IT IS CORRODING EXTENSIVELY, EVEN HAVING TAKEN STEPS TO TREAT IT AND PREVENT FURTHER DISINTEGRATION. HAVING DESCALED THE FRAME AND MANY COMPONENTS AND TREATING EVERYTHING WITH A RUST CONVERSION PRODUCT AND SEALER, MUCH OF IT IS STILL COMING BACK THROUGH. THIS IS EVEN AFTER AVOIDING DRIVING UNDER ANY NEGATIVE WEATHER CONDITIONS. THERE ARE MANY PLACES THAT THE RUST IS JUST EATING ITS WAY BACK THROUGH AGAIN. THERE ARE INDIVIDUAL PARTS THAT COULD BE BROKEN OFF BY HAND DUE TO THE RUST. ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS TO BE FAIRLY STABLE AT THE MOMENT, I AM UNSURE HOW LONG THE FRAME AND STRUCTURE MAY STAY INTACT BEFORE THERE IS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION. THIS INCLUDES THE GAS TANK STRAP THAT IS RUSTING THROUGH AS WELL. *TR
WILL NOT RETRACT. LOOKS LIKE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT HELP, ONLY CHARGE TO FIX REPLACE PART. BELT IS LOOSE ACROSS CHEST AND WILL NOT EVEN FEED BACK INTO THE MECHANISM.
2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THERE IS WIDESPREAD AND SIGNIFICANT RUSTING ON THE FRAME AND DRIVETRAIN COMPONENTS. WELL-MAINTAINED, AND NOT LOCATED IN A SALTY ENVIRONMENT, NOR AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE ROADS ARE EVER SALTED. THIS VEHICLE IS UTILIZES THE SAME FRAME AS ANOTHER TOYOTA VEHICLE (4RUNNER), AND THAT VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED WITH THE FRAME-RUSTING RECALL DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED.
Structural frame rust. I have already had to have plates welded in to support stab links. Also a gas tank strap had to be replaced because it had rusted through.
TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE ON THE BRAKES AND THEY TOLD US THE FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT. THERE ARE LAWSUITS ON CERTAIN TOYOTA MODELS THAT TOYOTA IS HONORING FOR FIXING. HOWEVER, WHEN WE CALLED TOYOTA THEY TOLD US THAT THE FJ CRUSIER WAS NOT ONE AND THEY COULD NOT HELP US OUT. WE DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS SINCE THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA VEHICLES. WE FEEL THAT THEY OWE US A NEW FRAME FREE OF CHARGE. THIS IS A REPLACEMENT COST OF $6,000.00 WHICH WE FEEL THEY SHOULD PAY.
FUEL TANK STRAP RUST. I NOTICED MY FUEL TANK HANGING LOW ONE DAY. TURNS OUT A FUEL TANK STRAP HAD RUSTED IN TWO. I HAD SOMEONE WELD THE STRAP BACK TOGETHER TO HOLD MY FUEL TANK IN PLACE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN NOTICED. IN THE ATTACHED PICTURE YOU CAN SEE THE WELD REPAIR THAT IS NOW HOLDING THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE.
THE GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED THROUGH COMPLETELY. THE BOTH STRAPS HAD RUSTED OUT COMPLETELY. THE FRONT STRAP WAS DANGLING DOWN AND SO I USED A RATCHET STRAP TO GET ME HOME. WHEN I SECURED THE FRONT, THE BACK STRAP BROKE. THE PROBLEM WAS NOTED BY A MECHANIC WHEN I WAS GETTING A TIRE ROTATION OR ALIGNMENT. I HAD TO BUY REPLACEMENT STRAPS.
TAKATA RECALL- REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT BAD, NO HARD DRIVING, AND CHANGING FLUID FREQUENTLY.
WHILE DRIVING, MY EXHAUST BROKE FROM HITTING A POTHOLE. WHEN I TOOK TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR, WE NOTICED SO MUCH RUST ON THE FRAME. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED, WE FOUND THAT THE FRAME IS EXTREMELY RUSTED WITH HOLES IN THE BACK PIECE BY THE BUMPER. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP OPENED A CASE. THEY ALSO SAID FOR ME TO CONTACT CORPORATE TOYOTA AND OPEN A CASE. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THEY TAKE THIS EXTREMELY SERIOUS BECAUSE OF THE TACOMA RUSTED FRAME RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CAN NOT MAKE A DECISION AND THAT IT MUST BE MADE BY CORPORATE. THE DEALERSHIP SUPPLIED THE PICTURES SO CORPORATE COULD SEE THE FRAME ROTTING. I STAYED IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH A DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVE THE ENTIRE TIME. EVERY CONVERSATION THAT I HAD WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE ENDS WITH THEM SAYING 'SORRY, THERE IS NOT A RECALL RIGHT NOW'. THE DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVE BECAME FRUSTRATED AND EVEN SAID SHE WOULD NOT PUT HER KIDS IN THE FJ CRUISER BECAUSE ITS UNSAFE. EVERYONE AGREES THAT A 2007 FJ CRUISER FRAME SHOULD NOT BE RUSTING OUT LIKE THIS. FINALLY, THE DEALERSHIP WAS WHO TOLD ME I SHOULD CONTACT NHTSA AND START THIS PROCESS. I HAVE BEEN READING ON FJ CRIUISER SPECIFIC FORUMS RECENTLY ABOUT OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. IT SEEMS REALLY WIDE SPREAD.
STRUCTURAL FRAME RUST. THE FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND THIN WITH LOTS OF HOLES IN IT. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. THE REAR CROSS MEMBER IS EXTREMELY RUSTED AND WOULD NOT HOLD IN A REAR END COLLISION. IN THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE FREE WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH AND SENT THE TRUCK OUT OF CONTROL IN TO THE NEXT LANE.LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND SLOWING DOWN KEPT IT UNDER CONTROL. THIS WAS ON A SMALL HIGHWAY WHILE SLIGHTLY TURNING LEFT.
RECEIVED WORD FROM TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE FRAME ON MY 2007 FJ IS ROTTED, NOT REPAIRABLE, AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, NOT OWNER CAUSED. LOOKING TO TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS SIMILAR TO THE TACOMA FRAME RECALL.
THE FRAME ON MY 2007 FJ CRUISER IS SO BADLY RUSTED THAT THE BRACKETS CONNECTING THE REAR CONTROL ARMS TO THE FRAME DETERIORATED AND THEY ARE NO LONGER ATTACHED. THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN THE STRAPS FROM THE GAS TANK ALSO RUSTED AWAY AND THE GAS TANK DROPPED. THE FRAME DAMAGE IS SO SEVERE THAT NO BODY SHOP WANTS TO TOUCH IT FOR LIABILITY REASONS.
