ONE HEAD LIGHT WOULD GO OUT WHEN DRIVING. TURING THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF BRINGS BOTH LIGHTS BACK ON. SOMETIMES THE LEFT GOES OUT AND SOMETIMES THE RIGHT. *TR
HEADLIGHTS FAILED. LIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT (BOTH SIDES) WHILE ON HIGH BEAMS WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL WINDY ROAD. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! I HAD TO PULL OVER WHEN THEY WENT OUT AND I WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL WINDY ROAD WITH LOTS OF DEER. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE HAD ME TURN ON MY FOG LAMPS TO GET HOME. MY LIGHTS THEN ONLY WORKED ON LOW BEAMS, BUT THEN WITH IN A FEW DAYS THE PASSENGER LOW BEAM GOES OUT AFTER ABOUT 5-10 OF OPERATION. NOW BOTH, ON LOW BEAMS ARE GOING OUT AFTER 5-10 MINUTES OF OPERATION - HIGH BEAMS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, TOLD ME IT IS THE HID LIGHTS AND WOULD COST OVER $300 TO CHANGE BOTH. THIS IS INSANE!!!!! YOUR AGENCY KNOWS THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND HAS DECIDED TO LET BIG CORP GET AWAY WITH ROBBING US. YOU ARE JUST AS BAD AS TOYOTA FOR LETTING THEM KNOWINGLY GET AWAY WITH THIS AND NOT EVEN WARNING US OWNERS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING. IN ADDITION, MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE TAIL LIGHT IS NOW OUT AND I WAS PULLED OVER FOR A FIX IT TICKET. SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE PRIUS AND YOU ARE COVERING IT UP. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL FAILURE *TGW THE CONSUMER HAD TO CALL AAA FOR EMERGENCY ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE. WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER TO THE RETRIEVE THE VEHICLE, HE WAS HANDED A REPAIR CHARGE OF OVER $ 5,300. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS INCORRECTLY JUMP STARTING THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE INCORRECT PROCEDURE IN ATTEMPTING TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE LEAD TO A MAIN FUSE FAILURE AND COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE INVERTER-CONVERTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE UPPER COATING OF THE REAR HATCH MELTED AND THE HATCH WAS UNABLE TO BE OPENED. IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH FOR THE DOOR HATCH MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE ELECTRIC SWITCH REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE BECAUSE THE REAR HATCH COULD NOT OPEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. UPDATED 11/16/11*LJ UPDATED 11/30/11
LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT THEN 4 MONTHS LATER THE RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. I CAN MAKE THEM WORK AGAIN BY TOGGLING THE ON/OFF SWITCH. THERE HAS BEEN MANY TIMES THAT BOTH LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. I LOOKED AT THE BULBS AND THEY ARE FINE ITS THE LIGHT MODULE THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WHICH IS ABOUT 600 PLUS FOR BOTH. KIND OF FIND THIS HARD TO GET FIXED SO I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS LIGHT ISSUE FOR SOME TIME NOW. THEY SHOULD JUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A POORLY DESIGNED MODULE AND REPLACE THEM! SINCE THEY DID NOT STAND BY THERE PRODUCT I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A FORD EDGE INSTEAD OF A TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. *TR
THE REAR DOOR LATCH RUBBER COVER HAS TURNED TO A GOO, AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH DOOR. *KB
MY LHEADLIGHTS FLICKER, AND GO OUT ALL THE TIME...I HAVE 2 TEEN DAUGHTERS THAT ARE OF DRIVING AGE AND THEY CANNOT DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO THE LIGHTING ISSUE...I HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY GOING UPWARDS OF 75 MILE PER HOUR ON HIGHWAY AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS HAVE WENT COMPLETELY OUT...I ASSUMED TOYOTA WAS A GOOD BRAND IT IS SOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE MY CAR AT NIGHT!! *TR

HEADLIGHTS FAIL INTERMITTENTLY, WITHOUT NOTICE. DEALER HAS REPLACED ONE, THE OPPOSITE SIDE IS ALSO FAILING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,500.
2007 PRIUS TOURING WAS STEERING AT LOW SPEED TO PARK WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT CONNECTION TO THE GEARBOX STEERING RACK FAILED AND THE CAR STEERING WHEEL TURNED FREELY BUT NO LONGER CONTROLLED THE FRONT WHEELS. CAR COULD NOT BE STEERED. ELECTRICAL WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING STEERING SLIDE THEN VEHICLE POWERED DOWN AND COULD NOT BE MOVED. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TECH INFORMED ME THE STEERING RACK WAS DAMAGED ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG CABLE COIL ASSEMBLY. UPON DISSASSEMBLY TECH FOUND THAT THE STEERING SHAFT CONNECTING THE COLUMN TO THE STEERING RACK GEAR BOX HAD STRIPPED AND ALSO NEEDED REPLACEMENT. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS. $2302.65. OUT OF WARRANTY. 59,980 MILES. *TT *KB
IT WAS LAST FRIDAY EVENING,SEP 16,2011,WHEN MY CAR HAD AROUND 51270 MILES,I DISCOVERED THAT THE HID BULBS IN PRIUS IS GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING,SOMETIMES FIRST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SOME TIMES ON DRIVER, AND AFTER SOMETIME IT COULD GO OFF ON BOTH SIDES.I AM LESS THAN 5 YEARS IN MY CAR.AFTER DOING RESEARCH IN THE INTERNET,I CAME TO KNOW ABOUT TOYOTA HID BULB HEAD LIGHT PROBLEMS,EXPERIENCED BY OTHER PRIUS OWNERS, AND THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT REGARDING THIS,AND THE FACT THAT THE TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TILL 5 YR/50K MILES. I MOSTLY USE THE CAR DURING THE DAY TIME TO WORK(8 MILES ONE WAY),AND SINCE ALL MY FRIENDS/AMENITIES/SHOPPING ARE WITH IN 5 MILE RADIUS,I DONT GET MUCH CHANCE TO DRIVE FOR A LONGER TIME DURING THE NIGHT.ALL MY NIGHT DRIVES ARE RARE AND IS MOSTLY LESS THAN 10-15 MINS.I ALSO HAVE FOG LIGHTS IN MY CAR WHICH GIVES SOME DECENT LIGHT,AND WHEN THERE ARE OTHER CARS IN THE ROAD,OR WHEN THE ROAD IS WELL LIT,IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM,WHEN THE FIRST HEADLIGHT GOES OFF.EVEN WHEN THE SECOND HEADLIGHT GOES OFF,UNDER GOOD ROAD CONDITIONS,IT IS VERY DIFFICULT. IT APPEARS AS SOME LIGHT DIMMING GOING ON FROM INSIDE THE CAR,WHEN ONLY ONE HEAD LIGHT GOES OFF.FURTHER I DID MY 50K MILES SERVICE LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. I CALLED TOYOTA,OPENED A CASE(NUMBER:1109191158)AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER.THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AND CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS DUE TO HID BULBS,COVERED BY THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT.HE ALSO UPDATED MY CASE WITH TOYOTA.THE TOYOTA AGREED TO COVER THE COST OF THE BULB BUT NOT THE LABOR.I TRIED TO ESCALATE THE SITUATION WITH TOYOTA, BUT THEY WERE FIRM ON THEIR DECISION.THEY WERE MORE TALKING BY THE RULE BOOK, ABOUT THE EXPIRATION OF WARRANTY, THAN TRYING TO HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEM.CLEARLY THEY HAVE DEFECTIVE PART,AND THEY WERE UNWILLING TO COVER THE COMPLETE COST. IT WOULD ONLY BE FAIR,IF THEY REFUND THE $112 LABOR COST. *TR
THE BACK LATCH OF MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS DEGRADED ("MELTED" ALMOST). IT NO LONGER FUNCTIONS PROPERLY, AND I AM UNABLE TO OPEN THE BACK HATCH DOOR EASILY. SOMETIMES IT REQUIRES CONSIDERABLE EFFORT AND PERSEVERANCE TO GET IT OPEN. I AM CONCERNED THAT IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. THIS IS A MAJOR CAUSE FOR CONCERN AND IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT I AM HAVING HID HEADLIGHT ISSUES. THE PASSENGER HEADLAMP WILL GO OFF AT ANYTIME AND ONLY COME BACK ON IF YOU TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF THEN BACK ON. I NEED HELP ON THIS PROBLEM SEEING AS SLOT OF PRIUS OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ONE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AND STAYED OUT UNTIL I STOPPED THE CAR TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS AND THEN TURNED THEM BACK ON. THIS WENT ON FOR A WEEK AND WE TOOK THE CAR INTO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE THE REPLACED THE BULBS AT NO CHARGE CAUSE WE WERE UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN OVER THE LAST 80000 MILES. NOW WE ARE SEEING BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME AND OR ONE OR THE OTHER. WE ARE TIRED OF PURCHASING NEW HEADLIGHTS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE SPORADICALLY. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE LIGHT BULBS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT AT RANDOM AND MUCH FASTER THAN ANY HEADLIGHT SHOULD, AND HAVE ALSO DONE SO WHILE I'M DRIVING. MY FIRST HEADLIGHT BURNED OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE LAST OCTOBER, WHICH TO ME SEEMED NORMAL, THE CAR WAS THEN 5 YEARS OLD. I BOUGHT AND REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT THE NEXT DAY. SINCE OCTOBER 2011 TO PRESENT DAY (9 MONTHS) I HAVE NOW HAD TO REPLACE BOTH PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHTS 7 TIMES COMBINED. I HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS DIFFERENT BRANDS OF LIGHTS, AND ALSO HAD A DEALERSHIP CHECK OUT MY WIRING TO BE SURE THERE WERE NO SHORTS OR ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SETUP, AND THEY CONCLUDED THERE WAS NONE. THE LIGHTS GO OUT AT COMPLETELY RANDOM INTERVALS, ON 2 OCCASIONS THE LIGHT WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. AS BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE LIGHTS ARE GOING OUT THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHILE THEY HAVE NOT YET GONE OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE TIMINGS ARE SO OFTEN AND RANDOM THAT I FEAR THEY WILL BOTH GO OUT BEFORE I AM ABLE TO REPLACE THE ONE THAT IS OUT. AS I HAVE USED EVERY BRAND OF LIGHT THAT IS AVAILABLE, AND HAD A TOYOTA DEALER CONFIRM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HOW I INSTALLED THE LIGHTS OR THE WIRING, ITS VERY CLEAR THERE IS SOME KIND OF ISSUE WITH THE PRIUS LIGHTING SYSTEM ITSELF CAUSING THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. *TR
IN 2010 (APPROXIMATELY), THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY OF MY PRIUS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY NOT DISPLAY WHEN THE CAR WAS FIRST STARTED. THIS CONDITION MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW HOW FAST THE CAR IS GOING, HOW MUCH FUEL THERE IS, ETC. I VISITED DEALERS AND INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AND NO ONE CLAIMED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED THAT TOYOTA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS VERY ISSUE IN 2009! (T-SB-0172-09). I'VE ALSO SINCE LEARNED (DUE TO MY OWN RESEARCH) THAT THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM IS A FAULTY COMBINATION METER (AS PER THE TOYOTA SB). ONE INDEPENDENT GARAGE IN SAN FRANCISCO, CA HAS EVEN STARTED A BLOG ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THEY ARE SEEING SO MANY REPAIRS FOR THIS CONDITION! IT IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES IN MY CAR TODAY (I'VE JUST DISCOVERED THE POTENTIAL FIX OF REPLACING THE COMBINATION METER). IN ADDITION TO THE DASH DISPLAY NOT WORKING, OFTEN OTHER ISSUES, SUCH AS THE ENGINE NOT TURNING OFF, KEY NOT RELEASING FROM IGNITION, AND REAR HATCH NOT RELEASING ARE ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA ADMITS IN ITS SB THIS IS DUE TO A FAULTY COMPUTER DESIGN FROM ONE OF ITS SUPPLIERS BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL NOTICE. NHTSA SHOULD FORCE TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS THE PROBLEM HAPPENS NOT ONLY AT START-UP, BUT SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. LOSING SPEEDOMETER VISIBILITY IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE; AS IS NOT BEING ABLE TO DISENGAGE POWER IN THE NORMAL FASHION. *TR
2007 PRIUS TRUNK HATCH RELEASE RUBBER PIECE MELTED AND I HAD TO REPLACED IT WITH MY OWN MONEY IN TOYOTA DEALER. *TR
DRIVING PASSENGER VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON A TOLLROAD. NORMAL CLEAR DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS AT ABOUT 80 DEGREES. THERE WAS A LOAD NOISE, THEN SMOKE AND LOSS OF VEHICLE STABILITY. PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT. APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF OF THE TIRE IN THE SIDE WALL AREA WAS TORN APART. TIRE WAS REPLACED. *TR
2007 PRIUS HEADLIGHT FAILURE - PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT GOES OUT FREQUENTLY. BY TURNING LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON IT STAYS ON FOR A WHILE. I CAN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WHEN I WANT TO. LOOKING AT CONSUMER COMPLAINTS IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE BULB WHICH DOESN'T HELP THE PROBLEM. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AT LEAST THAT TOYOTA IS JUST BRUSHING ASIDE. I AM NOT A SATISFIED TOYOTA CUSTOMER BY ALL MEANS. *TT
THE RUBBER COVERING ON THE REAR HATCH OPENING MECHANISM IS MELTING. I HAVE TWO OTHER MODEL YEAR PRIUS VEHICLES (2004 AND 2006) AND THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED ON THOSE - ONLY ON THIS 2007 CAR. IT IS BECOMING DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE HATCH AND IT WILL PROBABLY FAIL COMPLETELY SOON. *TR
2007 PRIUS REAR HATCH SWITCH COVERED BY A RUBBER STRIP. RUBBER STRIP HAS MELTED AND IS NOW MORE LIKE TAR THAN RUBBER. *TR
THE RUBBER COVER ON THE REAR EXTERIOR HATCH LATCH MELTED AND IS LIKE TAR. BIG STICKY MESS EVERY TIME I USE THE HATCH WHICH IS OFTEN.THE LATCH NOW ALSO STICKS SOMETIMES. DEALER WANTS $260 TO FIX IT. WHY ISN'T TOYOTA COVERING THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT? *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. SOME LIGHT MANUFACTURERS TELL ME THAT THIS CAR IS THE PROBLEM, NOT THE BULBS. I HAD THE FIRST SET OF BULBS REPLACED WITH SOME OTHER WORK AT ABOUT 20K MILES. THE NEXT SET WAS REPLACED AT ABOUT 60K MILES 2 YRS LATER. NOW THEY ARE OUT AGAIN AT 76K AND 14 MONTHS LATER. TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR A REFUND, BUT THE FIRST ONE WAS COVERED UNDER INSURANCE, THESE NEXT TWO AREN'T, YET IT APPEARS THAT I'M GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THESE BULBS EVERY 1 - 2 YEARS, WHICH IS ABSURD. THEY JUST GO OUT, NO FLICKERING OR DIMMING, BUT JUST GO OUT WITH NO NOTICE. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL THIS ISSUE, MAKE THESE CARS SAFE, AND MAKE IT SO THE BULBS DON'T HAVE TO BE REPLACED EVERY YEAR OR TWO. *TR

LAST NIGHT I WAS STOPPED BY POLICE BECAUSE MY DRIVER SIDE HEAD LAMPS WAS OUT, BUT I HAD TURN OFF, THEN ON THE LIGHTS, AND IT WAS BACK ON. I BELIEVED THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA PRIUS AND TOYOTA SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIXED IT. I HOPE THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WAIT FOR A MAJOR ACCIDENT TO DO THE RIGHT THING. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS REAR HATCH HANDLE MELTED. NOTICED ABOUT A 3 MONTHS AGO JUST THOUGH THAT IT WAS REALLY HOT OUT. THEN THOUGH THIS HANDLE SHOULD NOT MELT TO HIGH HEAT THERE HAS TO BE A PROBLEM. WENT TO DEALER TO HAVE OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION, HAD SERVICE MGR. OPEN HATCH AND HE STATED THERE IS A PROBLEM. HE STATED THAT BECAUSE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY HE CAN NOT DO ANYTHING AND THAT IT WILL COST 58.84 FOR HANDLE AND 97.00 FOR LABOR. HE GAVE ME TOYOTA CARE NUMBER TO CALL, I CALLED TODAY AND THEY STATE THE SAME THING OUT OF WARRANTY...........I KNEW THAT WAS COMING..... THIS HANDLE SHOULD NOT MELT, THERE HAS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING OVER HEATING. THE BUTTONS ON THE DOORS TO LOCK THE CAR ARE MADE OUT OF THE SAME MATERIAL. TOYOTA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL SOMEONE HAS A FIRE AND SOMEONE DIES. *TR
HID HEADLIGHTS GO OFF AT RANDOM TIMES. THE PASSENGERS SIDE WAS FIRST TO START ,NOW THE DRIVER SIDE AS WELL AS BOTH GO OFF. THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. WHEN YOU SWITCH THE HEADLIGHTS FROM OFF TO ON THEY TURN ON. THE VEHICLE HAS 100K MILES. NO WARRANTY,DEALERS REPAIR COST IS APPROXIMATELY $550.00. FOR ABOUT 3-4 YEARS OFF AND ON IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE HATCH BACK DOOR. OVER TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE. AT THIS POINT EVEN MY HUSBAND IS HAVING TROUBLE OPENING THE DOOR. NON OF THE OTHER DOORS IS HAVING A PROBLEM. THE RUBBER COVER ON THE HATCH OPENING SWITCH ABOVE THE LICENSE PLATE IS DETERIORATING AND CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE HEADLIGHT TO GO BACK ON IS TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS OFF USING THE HEAD LAMP SWITCH ON THE DRIVERS STEERING COLUMN BY TURNING IT OFF AND ON QUICKLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HEAD LIGHT GOING OUT SAFETY ISSUE WILL OCCUR TO EITHER HEADLIGHT AT ANY MOMENT, BUT SEEMS TO ALTERNATE BETWEEN THEM. HAVE NOT LOST BOTH HEAD LIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME YET. THIS LOSS OF HEAD LIGHTS WILL CONTINUE TO OCCUR EVERY 2 -3 MINUTES.
