I OWN A 2007 PRIUS WITH 35,000 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE BEEN A 2 PRIUS FAMILY FOR 6 YEARS, SO I AM HIGHLY FAMILIAR WITH DRIVING ONE. I HAVE HAD THREE VERY FRIGHTENING INCIDENTS HAPPEN IN ABOUT THE LAST 4 MONTHS IN MY CAR. EACH HAS HAPPENED IN EXACTLY THE SAME SPOT DURING A COMMUTE THAT I DO SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. I HAVE BEEN EXITING FROM A FREEWAY, GOING 65 MPH, DOWN A GENTLE DOWNSLOPE. WHEN I EXIT (CONTINUING THE DOWNSLOPE) THE ENGINE STARTS REVVING AT A SPEED THAT I NEVER HAVE HEARD DURING ANY NORMAL DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCE. THIS IS WHILE I AM BRAKING TO STOP AT A LIGHT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE EXIT. I HAVE HAD A CAR NEXT TO ME ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND THE DRIVER ASK IF I NEEDED HELP. OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS I HAD DONE THIS EXACT EXIT THOUSANDS OF TIMES, IN MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLES, AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING REMOTELY LIKE THIS. EACH OF THE THREE TIMES I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, BUT THE HIGH REV CONTINUED. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED IT WAS TO PULL OVER AND TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE FLOOR MAT EACH TIME AND IT WAS MOUNTED SECURELY EXACTLY IN PLACE HOOKED ON THE MOUNTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES, COMPLETELY RANDOMLY. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO BE SERVICED AT TOYOTA OF BERKELEY ON 2/2/10 AND WAS TOLD THAT UNTIL THE CAR DID THIS ON A "FREQUENT" BASIS THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT TOYOTA COULD DO. HE CHECKED THE LOG FOR WARNING LIGHTS AND THERE WERE NO ENTRIES (I CHECKED THE DASH EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND NO LIGHTS WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON.) *TR
CONDENSATION IN 2007 PRIUS HEADLAMP FOR 6 MONTHS. I HAVE A PLATINUM EXTENDED WARRANTY IN EFFECT. TOYOTA WILL NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE HEADLAMP UNDER THE WARRANTY & WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT ACCORDING TO INTERNET RESEARCH IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN TOYOTA VEHICLES. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLIGHT FAILURES HEADLIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF AT WILL THEY SAY IT IS A BULB PROBLEM BUT IT KEEPS RECURRING YOU CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND LIGHTS GO COMPLETELY OUT. *JB
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED POOR BRAKING AND SLIPPAGE WHEN TRAVELING OVER BUMPY AND/OR WET SURFACES, THE MOST NOTICEABLE OF WHICH IS THE NON-ASPHALT SURFACING AROUND AND BETWEEN RAILROAD TRACKS. I UNDERSTAND YOU'RE AWARE OF THIS ON THE 2010 MODELS, BUT IT HAPPENS ON THE EARLIER MODELS TOO, AND THESE SHOULD BE MADE PART OF THE RECALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON MULTIPLE DATES, THE LATEST IS BELOW. LUCKILY, I LEAVE MORE ROOM BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR IN FRONT THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS, ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY GOING OUT. THIS BEGAN TO OCCUR ABOUT 75% OF THE TIME AFTER ABOUT A YEAR. IT USUALLY OCCURRED AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF DRIVING. I MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER AT MY ROUTINE SERVICING BUT THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM THE FIRST TWO TIMES I MENTIONED IT, THEN LAST SUMMER THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ABOUT 850$ TO FIX IT. I SAID NO THANKS. THEN LAST MONTH THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD DO IT FOR 250$ SO I SAID OK. AS SOON AS I DROVE HOME THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED ON THE LEFT. I WENT RIGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AND SAID WHAT IS GOING ON? THEY TOLD ME AT FIRST IT WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE AND THAT THE LEFT LIGHT WAS OLD AND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH REPLACING THE RIGHT. AT THAT I GOT UPSET SO THEY CONFERRED AND CAME UP THE EXPLANATION THAT NEW LIGHT ON THE RIGHT WAS SUCKING ENERGY FROM THE LEFT, AND SINCE THE LEFT LIGHT WAS OLD, IT WAS NOW FAILING. THAT SOUNDED LIKE A BUNCH OF BOLOGNA TO ME SO I SAID JUST GIVE ME MY CAR. SO NOW I HAVE A FLICKERING LEFT HEADLIGHT. *TR
HEADLAMPS ON PRIUS KEEP GOING OUT. SAFTEY!!!!!! *TR
HIGH INTENSITY HEAD LAMPS WILL GO OUT ON MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. VERY UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY IF I AM ON AN UNFAMILIAR ROAD AFTER DARK. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM, BUT THEY ALSO SAY THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY THEY GO OUT. THEY ALSO HAVE PROMISED TO PAY FOR NEW BULBS IF I HAVE THEM INSTALLED BY THEIR TECH, WHICH I UNDERSTAND, BUT THEY CHARGED $150 TO INSTALL AND I HAVE NOT REC'D A REFUND CHECK FOR THE BULBS. THIS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE IF THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THEM SO IT DOES NOT RE-OCCUR. THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT WHEN IT STARTED TO HAPPEN. *TR
MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING POWER AND FEELING OF ACCELERATION. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS WITH HID LIGHTS AND HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH BOTH FRONT HEADLAMPS TURNING OFF INTERMITTENTLY AS WELL AS THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT. THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AT APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT AT 50000 MILES. THANKFULLY, DUBLIN TOYOTA REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP AT NO COST, STATING IT WAS UNUSUAL TO ALREADY BE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS. THE PASSENGER SIDE HOWEVER WAS GOING TO COST $425. THE DEALERSHIP CUT ME A BRAKE AND CHARGED "ONLY" $325. $150 FOR THE LIGHT, THE REST FOR LABOR. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT REPLACING A HEADLIGHT SHOULD NOT COST MORE THAN REPLACING ALL 4 TIRES! ALSO, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE PUBLICIZED BY TOYOTA DIRECTLY. I DRIVE AT NIGHT, AND I LIVE NEAR THE COAST WHERE THERE IS PLENTY OF FOG. LIGHTS THAT RANDOMLY CHOOSE TO STOP WORKING ARE NOT SAFE WHATSOEVER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND ONE OF THE REAR TIRES SEIZED. THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE TIRE RETUNED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKE ACTUATOR, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 4/15/13 *CN UPDATED 05/16/2013 *JS THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INVOVLED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE, CAUSING IT TO CRASH INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER. DRIVER SIDE HID HEADLIGHT GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE THE SWITCH IS TURNED ON. CAN RELIGHT BY TURNING OFF LIGHTS AND TURNING THEM BACK ON; PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT REMAINS LIT WHEN THE DRIVERS SIDE GOES OUT. *TR
I DRIVE A 2007 MODEL YEAR PRIUS, MANUFACTURED BY TOYOTA. OVER THE NEARLY 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP - I HAVE EXPERIENCED, AT LEAST 10 TIMES, A SEEMINGLY SMALL DEFECT DURING LIGHT BRAKING CONDITIONS. WHAT HAPPENS IS WHEN I TAP ON THE BRAKES DURING A SLOWDOWN TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT (WHERE I MAY BE SLOWLY PUMPING THE BREAKS TO SLOW), THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL POP ON - AND THE CAR WILL SEEMINGLY LURCH FORWARD FOR A SECOND OR TWO, AS IF IT WANTS TO ACCELERATE. THE MATTER ALWAYS RESOLVES ITSELF - AND I DON'T FEEL IN DANGER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. HOWEVER, IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, AND IS ALWAYS ACCOMPANIED BY THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT - AND THE LURCHING FORWARD I TOLD YOU ABOUT. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WORKING - BECAUSE NONE OF THE SITUATIONS I'M SPEAKING INVOLVED CONDITIONS WHERE I WAS LOSING TRACTION. BEING THAT MOST OF THE PRIUS PROBLEMS SEEM TO BE IN THE 2010 MODEL, I'M NOT SURE IF YOU'VE HAD OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. I HAD NOT FELT THE NEED TO REPORT THIS UNTIL NOW - BECAUSE I FEEL THAT PERHAPS YOU MIGHT WANT TO EXAMINE THIS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE GETTING FEEDBACK FROM OTHER DRIVERS OF THE SECOND GENERATION PRIUS. *JB
I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE BRAKING SYSTEM OR A SUDDEN ACCELERATION BUT I HAVE DEFINITELY EXPERIENCED A SURGE WHEN BRAKING. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR STOPS BRAKING FOR A SECOND AND SURGES FORWARD BEFORE RE-ENGAGING THE BRAKES. *TR
2007 PRIUS - HID HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY GOING OFF BY THEMSELVES. ACTIVATING THE HEADLAMP SWITCH OFF / BACK ON RESTORES LIGHTING, HOWEVER, THEY MAY ONLY LAST A FEW MINUTES BEFORE GOING OFF AGAIN. NO WARNING EXCEPT FOR THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WHO CONTINUE TO STOP ME AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO INDICATE TO ME THAT I HAVE A LIGHT OUT. HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE I AM TICKETED? REQUEST TO THE DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE INDICATES TOYOTA'S POSITION IS TO REPLACE BOTH LIGHTS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE OF CLOSE TO $1000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A DEFINATE SAFETY ISSUE, OR MUST SOMEONE DIE BEFORE TOYOTA ACCEPTS RESPONSIBILITY?
THE EVENT LEADING UP TO THE FAILURES WOULD BE DRIVING THE PRIUS WITH THE LIGHTS ON. THE HIGH DENSITY LIGHTS JUST RANDOMLY STOPPED WORKING. THE FAILURE HAPPENED MANY DAYS TOGETHER AND THEN THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THERE WAS LONG BREAKS IN THE PROBLEM OCCURRING. ONE OR BOTH HIGH INTENSITY HEAD LIGHTS WOULD STOP WORKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. MOST TIMES TURNING THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF WOULD GET THEM TO WORK AGAIN. I WAS FORTUNATE AS I COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN I COULD NOT SEE ANN MOST TIMES MY TWO YOUNG BOYS ARE IN THE CAR WITH ME.. I SPENT $500 AT THE TOYOTO DEALER SHIP TO REPLACE THESE HEADLIGHTS AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS STILL MAY NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM

THE 'BRAKE CUT-OUT DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE OR MANHOLE COVER' IS >NOT< RESTRICTED TO THE 2010 PRIUS. MY 2007 HAS DONE THAT SINCE DAY ONE [65K MILES AGO]. THERE ARE HILLS NEAR MY HOUSE WHERE I HAVE TO GO OUT OF MY WAY TO AVOID MANHOLE COVERS -- PARTICULARLY THE LAST ONE NEAR A STOP SIGN. THE CAR JUST GOES INTO FREE-WHEEL MODE FOR A SECOND OR SO.
I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS. EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE, THE CAR FEELS AIRBORNE, AND THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. THE CAR HAS TERRIBLE TRACTION IN WET OR SNOWY WEATHER. I BELIEVE THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON ALL PRIUS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS AND AM EXPERIENCING BRAKING PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO THE ONES DESCRIBED AS PART OF THE 2010 MODEL RECALL. I HAVE LOST CONTROL OVER THE BRAKES MOMENTARILY SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE PAST FEW YEARS OF OWNERSHIP AND CHALKED IT UP TO ADJUSTING TO A NEW MAKE OF A CAR. NOW I REALIZE THAT I AM PART OF A BIGGER PROBLEM, THE EXPERIENCE I HAVE IS NOT NORMAL AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE THE NHTSA TO BROADEN THE RECALL TO ALL PRIUS OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, NOT JUST 2010 MODELS OR THOSE WHOSE VIN NUMBER MATCH UP TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. *TR
SINCE OWNING OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS, WE HAVE CALLED AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITH A PROBLEM WE HAVE BEEN HAVING. CRAZY ACCELERATING AT HIGH SPEED WITH CRUISE CONTROL. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN WE RESUME CRUISE CONTROL. SOMETIMES IT EXTREMELY SPEEDS UP AND KEEPS GOING BEYOND THE SPEED SET. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO STOP ACCELERATING IS TO BRAKE OR RESET THE SPEED CONTROL. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT WITH THE HID LIGHTS. THESE LIGHTS WILL GO OUT SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING. OFTEN TIMES IT TAKES LESS THAN 10 SECONDS FOR BOTH LIGHTS TO BE OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH LIGHTS, TWICE WITH AFTERMARKET BULBS AND THE PROBLEM REMAINS. TOYOTA IS CHARGING $450 TO REPLACE THE BULBS A THIRD TIME, WITH NO WARRANTY IF THEY FAIL. THIS SAME REPAIR CAN BE DONE ONLINE WITH IDENTICAL BULBS FOR $50. ADDING TO THE DIFFICULTY IS THAT THE BULB HOUSING IS LARGELY INACCESSIBLE FOR A NORMAL USER. MANY OWNERS, BASED ON HUNDREDS OF DESCRIPTIONS ON THE INTERNET, HAVE TAKEN TO REMOVING THE ENTIRE BUMPER JUST TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT BULB (WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE TO DO SINCE MY HANDS AREN'T TINY). THIS DESIGN FLAW EXACERBATES THE REPAIR OF A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT. THE HID LIGHTBULBS IN QUESTION ARE DENSO D4R'S, WHICH ACCORDING TO JD POWER SHOULD HAVE AN AVERAGE LIFESPAN OF 90,000 MILES FOR AN AVERAGE USER. MOST USERS ARE EXPERIENCING HALF OF THIS VALUE. INDICATING THE ECU OR BALLAST IS AT FAULT DESPITE THE INITIAL RESEARCH DONE ON THIS PARTICULAR TOPIC BY NHTSA, MY HEADLIGHTS DO BOTH FAIL WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME OF ONE ANOTHER - CONSTITUTING A LEGITIMATE SAFETY CONCERN. ONE WILL FAIL UPON TURNING THE CAR ON WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, LEAVING THE 2ND TO EITHER FAIL SHORTLY AFTER, OR AT ANY PERIOD OF TIME AFTER THIS POINT. THIS IS WITH NEW BULBS THAT ARE AT SPEC FOR THE CAR ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL. I HAVE NO COURSE OF RESOLUTION FOR THIS MATTER, AND TOYOTA IS UNWILLING TO HELP. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR, ESPECIALLY IN THE RAIN, OR AT NIGHT. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE NHTSA TAKES LIGHT FAILURES AS SERIOUSLY AS THEY DO BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR FAILURES, AS THEY'RE ALSO LIKELY TO LEAD TO ACCIDENTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS AND 2-3 YEARS AFTER PURCHASE, THE RUBBER PIECE UNDER THE HATCHBACK MELTED, MAKING SO THAT IT WAS A STICKY BLACK MESS AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN. IT NOW DOESN'T OPEN AT ALL AND I CAN NOT GET INTO MY TRUNK, RECENTLY HAD A BATTERY REPLACED AND MY CAR WAS STRANDED, THE AAA GUY HAD TO CRAWL TO THE BACK W/ SEATS DOWN FROM THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I COULD NOT GET TO MY TRUNK IF I HAVE A FLAT TIRE IN THE FUTURE. I AM OUT OF WARRANTY . MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT TOYOTA IS MAKING OWNERS PAY 300+ TO FIX THIS DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PLEASE ASSIST WITH THIS SAFETY CONCERN ON ALL PRIUS VEHICLES. *TR
THE TRUNK LATCH FOR OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS STARTED MELTING INTO A GOOEY MESS ABOUT 3 YEARS AFTER WE PURCHASED IT. IT SEEMS THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2007 PRIUS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE IT AS DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT; HOWEVER, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT DOOR HANDLES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MELT, EVEN IF YOU LIVE IN A WARM CLIMATE.

2007 INTERMITTENT LEFT HEADLIGHT FAILURE. I SENT IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER BECAUSE I HAVE A "BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY" ON 23 DEC 09. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME OVER $400 TO REPLACE TWO BULBS. I DON'T BELIEVE IT'S A BULB PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN RE-CYCLE THE SWITCH TO GET IT BACK. ON 29 DEC IT FAILED AGAIN AT NIGHT DURING A SNOW STORM, NEARLY CAUSING A FREEWAY ACCIDENT. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS, FOR TWO YEARS WHEN THE CAR IS NOT GARAGED THE ELECTRONICS ACTS UP BY NOT DISPLAYING ANYTHING! NO DISPLAYS WILL ILLUMINATE. IF YOU DRIVE IT A WHILE, THE NEXT TIME YOU TURN IT OFF IT MIGHT CORRECT ITSELF. THIS OCCURRED SPORADICALLY THE MAIN FACTOR WAS I WASN'T AT HOME TO HAVE IT GARAGED. NOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IS BESIDES JUST THE DISPLAY, IT ALSO WILL NOT SHUT OFF! I HAD TO LEAVE IT RUNNING AND GO TO WORK, MY HUSBAND CAME AND KEPT PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON UNTIL IT WOULD RESPOND. I HAVE TALKED TO ANOTHER 2007 PRIUS OWNER AND THIS HAS HAPPEN TO THEM ALSO. NOW I HEAR THAT THE CAUSE OF TOYOTA WOES MAYBE THE MAIN ELECTRONIC PROGRAM, WHICH IS WHAT THE TOYOTA DEALER MECHANIC TOLD ME WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACE TO STOP MY PROBLEM! *TR
TONIGHT FOR THE THIRD TIME RECENTLY, BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, ONE AT A TIME. NEITHER LOW OR HIGH BEAM WORKED AFTER THEY WERE OUT. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THE INTERMITTENT LOSS OF BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND WAS ABLE TO SHOW THE DEALER AT LEAST ONE OCCURRENCE OF BOTH LIGHTS. TONIGHT I WAS ABLE TO TAKE PICTURES SHOWING BOTH LIGHTS OUT IN LOW BEAM WITH FOG LAMPS ON (THE FOG LAMPS ONLY WORK WITH HEADLIGHTS ON IN LOW). I REALIZE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH NO PENDING RESOLUTION. THE HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON WHEN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS TURNED OFF THE ON AGAIN. WITHIN 10 MILES THE DRIVER SIDE LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. AND, AS IN THE PAST, TURNING THE HEADLIGHTS OFF THEN ON RESTORED THE LIGHT.*TR

ON DECEMBER 26, 2009, WHEN OUR CAR WAS PUT IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF OUR GARAGE, MY HUSBAND NOTICED THE CAR DID NOT HAVE THE USUAL BEEPING WHEN BACKING UP. LESS THAN A BLOCK FROM OUR HOME, HE NOTICED THE DISPLAY PANEL WITH THE SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, SHIFT INDICATOR, ETC. WAS BLACK. THE DIMMER SWITCH WOULD NOT BRING THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS BACK ON. HOWEVER, THE DISPLAY IN THE CENTER FOR CLIMATE CONTROL, MPG, ETC. WAS WORKING. HE TURNED AROUND AND RETURNED HOME. WHEN HOME HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF. AFTER MANY TRIES, WE WERE EVENTUALLY ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF BY HOLDING DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR AN EXTENDED TIME--MUCH LONGER THAN USUALLY NEEDED. WHEN WE RESTARTED THE CAR, EVERYTHING APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. ON DECEMBER 28, 2009 I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR BACK IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, AND IT WAS UNLIKELY THEY WOULD FIND WHAT WENT WRONG WHEN THE CAR WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD NOT TO TURN OFF THE CAR WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONED. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR WHEN I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE SPEEDOMETER AND WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS THE ELECTRONICS WAS NOT PERFORMING PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD I COULD HAVE THE CAR TOWED IF NECESSARY. I ASKED TO HAVE MY INCIDENT INCLUDED IN OUR FILE. ON FEBRUARY 4 AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALLS, I DECIDED TO CALL OUR DEALER TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD A RECORD OF OUR INCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THE INCIDENT WAS NOT ON RECORD. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD A PROBLEM, I SHOULD BRING THE CAR IN AND THEY WOULD FIX IT. I ASKED THAT FOR NOW, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO HAVE OUR INCIDENT DOCUMENTED IN OUR FILE. THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE REFUSED TO PUT THE INFORMATION IN OUR FILE. I SUGGESTED THEY JUST SAY THE CUSTOMER REPORTED THE INCIDENT AND THEY COULD NOT VERIFY IT. AGAIN, HE SAID HE WOULD NOT DO THAT. I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS. AND I LOVE IT, HOWEVER BEFORE ALL THIS CAME OUT ABOUT PRIUS BRAKES, IN DECEMBER 2009 THE BRAKES STARTED ACTING WEIRD. I AM A 2007 PRIUS DRIVER AND I WANT TO REPORT THAT I TOO HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE BRAKE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE NEWS. I NEVER ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO THE CAR UNTIL I READ THE ARTICLE. I WON A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. I HAD TWO ACCIDENTS IN LAST 4 MONTHS TIMEFRAME (BOTH INCIDENTS WERE FILED). IN BOTH THE CASES, I HAVE OBSERVED THAT THERE HAS BEEN BRAKING ISSUE. MY 07 PRIUS WHICH I RARELY DRIVE AT NIGHT IS SUFFERING FROM SPONTANEOUS OUTAGE OF THE HID HEADLAMPS WITH LESS THAN 65000 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS IN HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND COLD, WET SNOWY CONDITIONS THIS PAST FRIDAY NIGHT. MY BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE TWICE. THE FIRST TIME I WAS GOING 5-10 MPH AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, WHICH HAD STOPPED. IT WAS AS IF THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL AND A YELLOW LIGHT STARTED FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD (I THINK THIS WAS THE ABS SYSTEM LIGHT, BUT I DON'T KNOW) AND I FORTUNATELY COASTED TO A STOP BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS NO SKIDDING OR SLIDING, JUST A NON-RESPONSE FROM THE BRAKES. THE SECOND TIME OCCURRED ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER AND I WAS AGAIN TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEED AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE TO STAY A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE CAR AHEAD. THIS TIME I REPEATEDLY PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE AND INITIALLY THERE WAS NO ENGAGEMENT AND THEN AFTER APPROX 5 SEC THE BRAKES DID ENGAGE AND I AGAIN WAS ABLE TO AVOID A FENDER BENDER. I DROVE THE CAR HOME (WHITE-KNUCKLED) AND IT HAS BEEN PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OVER THE WEEKEND - WE EXPERIENCED A MAJOR SNOWSTORM AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE. TOMORROW I AM GOING TO SEE IF I CAN GET THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE IT. *TR

WE OWN A 2007 PRIUS. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE DOING MAYBE 5 MPH, AND MY CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD AND RAN INTO A CEMENT PLANTER APPROX 2 FT TALL. MY FRONT BUMPER ENDED UP TOP OF THE PLANTER. I KNOW I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. WE HAD ALREADY REMOVED THE FLOOR MATS. THE DEALER ADVISED STATED THAT THERE WERE NO UNUSUAL FAILURES IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE FLOOR MATS BUT NOT FOR HER ACCELERATOR PEDAL. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.

THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN TRAVELING A STRAIGHT ROAD AND ALSO WHEN TAKING A CORNER ONTO A DIRT ROAD.
