ON 2 SEPARATE EVENTS, THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS FAILED. IT FELT AS IF THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID IN THE SYSTEM AND THE BRAKES BECAME DANGEROUSLY SPONGY AND UNRESPONSIVE. THE DEALER MADE TWO SEPARATE FIXES TO THE SYSTEM. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLIGHT FAILURES. PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED AFTER 3RD YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE OR PASSENGER'S SIDE WILL GO OUT AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS 3 TIMES SO FAR AND STILL NO FIX. TOYOTA HAS RECENTLY REDUCED THE PRICE OF THEIR BULBS FROM $300 A PIECE TO $150 A PIECE WITH A $300 LABOR CHARGE, BUT ONLY WARRANTIES IT FOR 1 YEAR. WHICH IS STILL TOO EXPENSIVE AND NOT A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, BUT A STALLING TACTIC. *TR
THE HEADLIGHT ON MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS SHUTS ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE I AM DRIVING. WHEN I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY SAY THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT HAPPENS TO BE WORKING WHEN IT IS THERE. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN DEFECT AMONG 2007 PRIUS OWNERS. *TR
LEFT HEADLIGHT OF VEHICLE WAS OUT COMPLETELY. STOPPED AND RESTARTED CAR AND LIGHT RETURNED TO NORMAL. THIS EVENT HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE. IN OCTOBER 2009 BOTH SETS OF HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON A TOWNSHIP BLACKTOP ROAD AT NIGHT. THIS REQUIRED STOPPING CAR AND REPEATEDLY TURNED LIGHTS ON AND OFF AND RESTARTED CAR. LIGHTS FINALLY RETURNED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS SUDDENLY, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER EXPERIENCED EXTREMELY LIMITED VISIBILITY. THE HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO FUNCTION WHEN THE CONTROL SWITCH WAS TURNED TO THE "OFF" AND "ON" POSITION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING INSPECTED AND REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 74,000.
STARTING AT APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR OLD, THE TOYOTA PRIUS HID DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER OCCASIONALLY. IT WAS MENTIONED TO THE DEALER HOWEVER IT NEVER SEEMED TO BE FAILING WHEN AT THE DEALER. THEN AT ABOUT TWO YEARS OF AGE, THE HEADLIGHT WOULD BLINK COMPLETELY OUT OCCASIONALLY, AGAIN MENTIONED TO THE DEALER BUT WOULD NOT DUPLICATE AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT JUST CYCLING THE SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON WOULD RESTORE THE HEADLIGHT. IT IS NOW FAILING ON A MORE REGULAR BASIS BUT NOT WHEN AT THE DEALER. THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOW DOING THIS AS WELL AND I HAVE A REAL FEAR OF BOTH LIGHTS FAILING AT THE SAME TIME AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. AS OF TODAY, NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE BUT TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A CASE NUMBER BUT REMAINS FIRM THAT AN EXPENSIVE DIAGNOSIS SHOULD BE MADE WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAILURE. I WILL BE GETTING IT REPAIRED AND THIS HEADLIGHT ISSUE COULD AMOUNT TO $1000 OR MORE. THIS IS A BADLY DESIGNED BULB AND ASSEMBLY. CONSIDERATION SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE TO REPLACE THIS BULB WITH EASE CONSIDERING THE FAILURE RATE IT IS EXPERIENCING. THE MOST RECENT DATE IS THE ONE LISTED BELOW. *TR
LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT FLICKERED INTERMITTENTLY FOR ONE MONTH. BOTH HEADLIGHTS FAILED AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING ON DARK COUNTRY ROAD ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11. THE LIGHTS RESUMED WORKING AFTER TURNING HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY. *TR
BOTH HEADLAMPS WENT OUT IN THE THE MIDDLE OF A ROADTRIP AT NIGHT. HAD TO PULL OVER RIGHT AWAY. TURNED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY. SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS WITH JUST ONE HEADLIGHT AND SOMETIME BOTH WHICH IS REAL SCARY. I NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS FAILURE IS GOING TO HAPPEN. THE PASSENGER SIDE HID HEADLIGHT ON MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE LIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL FREQUENTLY GO OUT, LEAVING ME WITH ONE HEADLAMP. IF I CYCLE THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WILL COME BACK ON FOR A WHILE, AND THEN REPEAT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, DRIVING WITH ONE (OR NO) HEADLIGHT. MY CAR HAS ABOUT 65,000 MILES, THOUGH IT IS ONLY 2 AND A HALF YEARS OLD. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 AND 2006 PRIUS MODELS WITH THE HID HEADLIGHTS. *TR
HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT ON 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN OR WHERE IT WILL HAPPEN. ONE SIDE WILL GO OUT WHEN YOU TURN THE SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON THE LIGHT WILL COME BACK ON. LATER THE OTHER LIGHT WILL FAIL. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS A SAFETY ISSUE BEFORE SOME DIES. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS AND THE LEFT HEADLIGHT HAS GONE OUT. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHTS DUE TO THE COST OF LABOR. THE COST FOR TWO BULBS + LABOR; $650! THE CAR IS JUST ABOUT TO HIT 2 YEARS AND I'M HAVING TO SHELL OUT OVER $600 FOR HEADLIGHTS! I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THIS LOOKS TO BE A COMMON DEFECT WITH THE PRIUS. IF IT'S A COMMON DEFECT, WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL FOR THE CAR? I DON'T CARE IF I HAVE THE HID'S, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE FROM THE INITIAL PURCHASE OF THE CAR. *TR
WE OWN A TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN WE TURN ON THE HEATER AND TURN IT TO THE FEET, WARM AIR STARTS BLOWING FROM THE VENT ON THE DRIVER SIDE TO THE FACE. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER "CAPITOL TOYOTA", CAPITAL AUTO MALL, SAN JOSE, CA. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE BIG TIME TO FIX IT SINCE WE WERE JUST OVER 36,000 MILES IN 30 MONTHS. WE DIDN'T GET IT FIXED. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE IS SOMEHOW RELATED TO ITS ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS ISSUE. WE ALSO NOTICED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO WHEN WE WERE PARKED IN THE LINE FOR GAS, THAT THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WAS ROARING AS IF WE WERE REVVING IT TO VERY HIGH SPEEDS WITHOUT EVEN THE HEATER OR A/C BEING ON. WE ALSO THINK IT HAS RELATED FRONT DEFROSTING ISSUES. *TR
EITHER ONE OF MY HEADLIGHTS WILL STOP WORKING AT RANDOM TIMES, PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. LAST WEEK, WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, ONE STOPPED WORKING AND SUDDENLY THE SECOND ONE STOPPED WORKING. THAT IS THE FIRST TIME BOTH HAVE STOPPED. IN TOTAL DARKNESS I PANICKED AND HAD TO SWERVE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. *TR
HID HEADLIGHTS ON 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. TURNING LIGHT SWITCH OFF/ON SOMETIMES MAKES LIGHT(S) COME BACK ON. DRIVING COUNTRY ROADS AFTER DARK WITH NO HEADLIGHTS IS VERY DANGEROUS. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM, BUT STILL WANTS AN ARM AND LEG TO REPAIR PROBLEM. APPARENTLY HEADLIGHTS, AND COMPUTER BOARD WITH BALLASTS NEED REPLACED TO COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE HID HEADLIGHTS FOR THE PAST MONTH. THEY ALTERNATELY GO ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES SOMETIMES BOTH TOGETHER. ONE INCIDENT INVOLVED THEM BOTH TURNING OFF ONE NIGHT ON A DARK COUNTRY ROAD WITHOUT ANY ILLUMINATION. THIS THREW ME INTO IMMEDIATE PANIC AS EVERYTHING WENT COMPLETELY BLACK. IT WAS ONLY BY LUCK THAT I WAS ALERT ENOUGH TO HAVE A MENTAL PICTURE OF THE ROAD THAT I WAS ON AND WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN WHILE NAVIGATING AWAY FROM KNOWN OBSTACLES. ONCE STOPPED I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON AND THE LIGHTS RETURNED AND REMAINED ON FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. QUITE A DANGEROUS EVENT. LAST NIGHT I WAS TRAVELING ON AN ILLUMINATED HIGHWAY AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY STOPPED BY A STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. WHEN ASKED IF I KNEW WHY I WAS STOPPED AND I REPLIED NO, HE STATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT BEING OUT. WHEN I INQUIRED TOYOTA FOR A PRICE TO HAVE THIS SITUATION CORRECTED I WAS TOLD $1000+ FOR THE COST OF MATERIALS AND LABOR AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SITUATION TRULY IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER UNDER AN OFFICIAL RECALL. I HAVE TO THINK THAT THERE ARE OTHERS OUT THERE WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED BOTH HEADLIGHTS HAVE BLOWN OUT ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE HEADLIGHTS UNDER THE WARRANTY AND NOW THE MANUFACTURER IS PAYING HALF OF THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,500.
BRAKES MOMENTARILY DISRUPTED WHEN GOING OVER POTHOLES AND YELLOW LIGHT FLASHES. THIS HAS BEEN A REGULAR OCCURRENCE WITH OUR PRE 2010 (2007) PRIUS SINCE PURCHASE. NEVER CONSIDERED IT A SERIOUS HAZARD, BUT I AM REPORTING IT NOW IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR ONGOING INVESTIGATION OF THE 2010 MODELS. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS - PASSENGER SIDE HEAD-LIGHT HAS STOPPED WORKING WITH ONLY 42,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FIND THAT THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE ISSUE, THERE ARE QUITE A FEW OTHERS WITH THE SAME CONCERN. THIS IS THE THIRD TOYOTA I HAVE OWNED AND I'VE NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT ABOUT ANY OF MY PREVIOUS AUTOMOBILES. *TR
HID LIGHT RANDOMLY GO OUT. SOMETIMES THE DRIVER SIDE, SOMETIMES THE PASSENGER SIDE...SOMETIMES BOTH. THEY USUALLY COME BACK ON BY TURNING THEM OFF AND BACK ON AT THE SWITCH. DEALER QUOTED $700 PER LIGHT TO FIX. RIDICULOUS FOR EARLY FAILURE OF A "UPGRADED" LIGHT OPTION THAT WE HAD TO PAY EXTRA FOR WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR. *KB
I HAVE OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS SINCE NEW (3 YEARS). I NOTICED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO THAT, WHEN I TURNED ON MY HEADLIGHTS, THE RIGHT LAMP WAS STARTING OUT AT FULL BRIGHTNESS BUT GRADUALLY DIMMING UNTIL IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT ALTOGETHER. SWITCHING THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON AGAIN WOULD RESTORE THE LIGHT TO FULL BRIGHTNESS, BUT THEN THE LIGHT WOULD GRADUALLY BEGIN TO DIM AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AS I DO NOT KNOW THAT THE LIGHT HAS GONE OUT WHILE I AM DRIVING (AS I SAID, IT IS VERY GRADUAL AND OBVIOUSLY CANNOT BE SEEN FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT). THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDS CHANGING BOTH HID BULBS, WITH A QUOTED COST OF $553 INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR. APPARENTLY LIGHTBULBS ARE NOT COVERED, EVEN UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE FURTHER, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 PRIUS. IN LIGHT OF THAT FACT, TOYOTA SHOULD ABSOLUTELY CONDUCT A RECALL OF WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A SIGNIFICANT DEFECT, AND A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. IT IS EXTREMELY UNFAIR TO SELL US A FAULTY PRODUCT AND THEN ASK US TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, OR ELSE ENDANGER OUR SAFETY BY DRIVING WITH FAULTY HEADLIGHTS. *TR
HID LAMP INTERMITTENT OUTAGE IN MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. *TR
NO EVENT LEADING TO THE FAILURE ON 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS TOURING MODEL. MY WIFE CAME HOME FROM HOT SPRINGS, AR AROUND 4:00PM AND THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS NOT ON. WE DRIVE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON AT ALL TIMES, OR AT LEAST WE USED TO. I CHECKED THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR LOOSE WIRES, BUT NONE FOUND. SWITCHED LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WAS WORKING. THE SAME EVENING WE WENT TO THE THEATER 2 MILES FROM HOME AND WHILE DRIVING HOME IN THE DARK, THE LIGHT WENT OUT 3 TIMES IN THE 2 MILE RIDE. I SWITCHED THE LIGHT ON AND OFF TO RESTART EACH TIME IT WENT OUT. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO THE LIGHTS-OUT PROBLEM. IT CAN BE ON FOR AN ENTIRE TRIP OR ON AND OFF ANY NUMBER OF TIMES. WE LIVE IN THE QUACITA MTS. OF ARKANSAS AND STREET LIGHTS ARE MINIMAL AT BEST. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE OPTIONAL HID LIGHTS WITH THE TOURING PACKAGE (NO CHOICE). ACCORDING TO OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, ONE LIGHTS GOES OUT, THEN THE OTHER ONE USUALLY FOLLOWS AFTER SEVERAL MILES. IF THE SITUATION ARRISES WHERE BOTH LIGHT GO OUT, WE COULD BE IN GRAVE DANGER IN THE MOUNTAINS. YOU CANNOT SEE ANYTHING AT NIGHT W/O HEADLIGHTS, UNLESS THE MOON IS BRIGHT. THE REPAIR IS EXORBITANT FOR THE BULB AND EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS FOR THE CONTROL MODULE AND INSTALLATION. THIS IS CAUSED FROM DEFECTIVE PARTS BECAUSE THE HID HEADLIGHTS ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST 3 TIMES LONGER THAN STANDARD HEADLIGHTS. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED THAT THEY HAD SOME DEFECTIVE BULBS FROM ONE MANUFACTURER. BUT MY VEHICLE IS BEYOND THE WARRANTEE. I STILL FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT THEY INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE AT THEIR EXPENSE. THE LABOR AND PARTS TO REPLACE ONE LIGHT AND/OR MODULE EXCEEDS $1000. THAT IS NOT EVEN REASONABLE. PURCHASING CUSTOMERS WERE NEVER TOLD THAT THOSE LIGHTS WERE THAT NONSENSICALLY EXPENSIVE. THEREFORE, I AM WAITING FOR TOYOTA TO BE FORCED BY CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS OR CUSTOMER INFLUENCE TO TAKE TESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR IDIOTIC MISTAKE. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE HAD QUOTES ANYWHERE FROM $300.00 TO $500.00. AFTER GETTING OVER THE INITIAL SHOCK, I FIND OUT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH PRIUS OWNERS. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I FIND IT RATHER UNBELIEVABLE THAT TOYOTA COULD CHARGE SOMEONE AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARLY A DEFECT OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR

I OWN A TOYOTA PRIUS 2007 WHICH IT WAS PERFORMING EXCELLENT UNTIL 3 MONTHS AGO THAT THE FUEL ECONOMIC WENT DOWN DRAMATICALLY TO HALF OF IT"S USUALLY FUEL CONSUMPTION AN AVERAGE NOW I GETTING AROUND 200 MILES FOR TANK WHEN I USE TO GET AT LEAST 400 PER TANK NOW THAT'S IT IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT MAY ONLY POSSIBLY CHOOSE "GOODWILL" ACTION BE TAKEN. THESE ARE THE TOYOTA HID LAMPS THAT ARE DOCUMENTED IN PE09019. 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HID HEADLIGHT FAILURE. HEADLIGHT GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. WAS TOLD THAT THE BULB WAS READY TO FAIL. IT WOULD COST $150 FOR THE BULB PLUS 1 HOUR OF LABOR. I HAVE A TOYOTA SERVICE PLAN BUT WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED. A LITTLE RESEARCH REVEALED THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS EXPERIENCED THE OCCASIONAL LOW SPEED BRAKING PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED IN THE NEWS MEDIA TODAY. I FIRST NOTED THIS WHEN GOING OVER RAILWAY TRACKS AT LOW SPEED WHILE BRAKING. I EXPERIENCED WHAT FELT LIKE A LOSS OF TRACTION BRIEFLY, AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT WARNING SYSTEM FLASHED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN IN LOW SPEED BRAKING SITUATIONS WHILE GOING OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NOT CONSTANTLY. I REPORT THIS BECAUSE MY PRIUS IS A 2007 MODEL -- NOT A 2010, WHICH INITIAL NEWS REPORTS INDICATED WERE AFFECTED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER (BOB BRIDGE TOYOTA IN RENTON, WA) THIS MORNING. I INITIALLY DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL I HEARD THE NEWS REPORTS THIS MORNING. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS ON OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS GO OUT AT RANDOM INTERVALS -- IT APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO THE BALLAST CONTROLLING THE LIGHTS. THE FAILURE HAPPENS CONSTANTLY -- PROBABLY AT LEAST EVERY FEW MINUTES WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES ONE HEADLIGHT, SOMETIMES BOTH. IT CAN BE "FIXED" TEMPORARILY BY TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON, ONLY TO REPEAT ITSELF SHORTLY THEREAFTER. THE REPLACEMENT COSTS OF THE SYSTEM ARE EXTREMELY PROHIBITIVE ($1,000), AND OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND HAD BOTH LIGHTS GO OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY ON A DARKENED HIGHWAY, WHICH IS TERRIFYING. *TR
HEADLIGHTS TO TOYOTA PRIUS FLICKER AND TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING ONCE I TURN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH, OFF THEN ON AGAIN, LIGHTS COME BACK ON. THIS ONLY OCCURS WITH ONE HEADLIGHT AT A TIME
RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT, CAN TURN LIGHTS OFF & THEN BACK ON, AND HEADLIGHT COMES BACK ON. THIS PARTICULAR LIGHT HAD SAME PROBLEM ORIGINALLY UNDER WARRANTY (APPROX 32000 MILES) AND WAS REPLACED AT DEALER, BUT HAS BEEN GOING OUT AGAIN OVER THE PAST YEAR PLUS. RIGHT NOW I AM APPROACHING 85000 MILES. BASED ON MY READING, THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AS IT SEEMS CHRONIC AND PREVALENT IN THE PRIUS. *TR
BOTH HEADLIGHTS ON OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HAVE BEGUN EITHER TO FLICKER AND DIM, OR ELSE FAIL COMPLETELY, AND APPARENTLY AT RANDOM, WHILST THE VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION. THE PASSENGER-SIDE HAS SUFFERED THE PROBLEM FOR THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, AGAIN SPORADICALLY, BUT ONLY RECENTLY HAS THE DRIVER-SIDE BEGUN TO SHOW SIMILAR TROUBLES. IT HAS PROVED VERY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, WHEN THE LAMPS CAN SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY FAIL, AND LEAVE THE DRIVER ENTIRELY AT THE MERCY OF HIS OWN, UNILLUMINATED, SIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS QUOTED A REPLACEMENT COST OF OVER $800 FOR BOTH LIGHTS, AND CLAIMS THEM NOT COVERED UNDER THE COMPANY WARRANTY. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS - THE HEADLIGHTS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY WITH NO WARNING, RHYME OR REASON. TURNING THE SWITCH OFF AND THEN ON TEMPORARILY FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT NOT COMPLETELY. TOYOTA DEALER SAYS THE BULBS ARE BURNED OUT AND WANTS $1000 TO REPLACE THEM. IF THE BULBS WERE BURNED OUT, WHY DO THEY COME BACK ON? *TR
I HAD A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT SEEMED TO HAVE ISSUES WHENEVER I WOULD HIT THE BRAKES ON SLICK\WET ROADS OR SOMETIMES WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP. IT FELT AS IF THE BRAKES WOULD NOT APPLY AND THE CAR WOULD FEEL LIKE IT ACCELERATED FORWARD INSTEAD OF STOPPING. USUALLY THE BRAKES WOULD KICK IN AFTER A SECOND OR TWO OF THIS KIND OF SLIPPING. HOWEVER, IN EARLY NOVEMBER OF THIS YEAR WHILE TAKING MY SON TO KARATE ON A WET DAY WE HIT A SPOT OF REPAIRED ROAD THAT CAUSED THIS TO OCCUR AGAIN, INSTEAD OF CORRECTING ITSELF IT FELT LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AND THE CAR VEERED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WENT UP AN INCLINE AND FLIPPED THE CAR ONTO ITS SIDE. FORTUNATELY IN THIS CASE NO ONE WAS INJURED AT ALL AS I WAS GOING FAIRLY SLOW AND THE CAR QUICKLY CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT WENT ON IT SIDE. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM BUT I RECENTLY SAW AN ARTICLE ABOUT 2010 PRIUS HAVING THIS ISSUE AND I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT THAT THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON AN OLDER VERSION OF THE PRIUS AS WELL. *TR
THE HEADLIGHT IS PHYSICALLY GOING OUT. I NOTICED IT WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY LAST NIGHT AND HAD ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT SHINING AGAINST THE GARAGE DOOR. I DID THE SAME THING I HAVE DONE BEFORE, I TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF THEN BACK ON AGAIN AND IT AGAIN CAME ON. THIS IS TYPICALLY HOW I HAVE NOTICED THE LIGHT HAS GONE OUT, WITH WHAT SHOULD BE TWO LIGHTS SHINING AGAINST THE BACK OF AN SUV, VAN, TRUCK, GARAGE DOOR ETC.. LIKE LAST NIGHT, LAST WEEK IT WAS DOING IT FREQUENTLY ENOUGH THAT I WOULD SEE THE LIGHT POP OFF WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN. I HAVE A 2007 PRIUS AND THE ACCELERATOR HAS STUCK 3-4 TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
I READ ABOUT THE RECALL OF THE 2010 PRIUS CONCERNING THE ABS SOFTWARE. MY 2007 PRIUS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS RECENTLY WHEN I RAN OVER A CURB AT LOW SPEED AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AT HIGH SPEED AFTER I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND I HIT A WALL ABOUT 5 FEET AWAY. DAMAGE TO MY CAR WAS A CRACKED BUMPER, SLIGHTLY DENTED HOOD, CRACKED HEAD LIGHT. I USED TO GET 50 TO 60 MILES PER GALLON AND I CAN NOT GET OVER 41 MILES PER GALLON NOW. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND HAD THEM BALANCED AND ALIGNED BUT THE MILEAGE HAD NOT IMPROVED. DAMAGES TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR WILL AMOUNT TO ABOUT 2 TO 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS. MY TOYOTA DEALER SAYS THAT MY 2007 MODEL IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I HAVE READ BLOGS WHERE PEOPLE WITH MY MODEL TOYOTA HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. I BELIEVE THAT THE ABS SOFTWARE IS FAULTY IN MORE THAN THE 2010 PRIUSES. *TR
A SECOND INCIDENCE OF THE SAME PROBLEM. SEE ODI NUMBER 10285154. ON THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLAMP ON A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS WAS INTERMITTENT.(DATE OF INCIDENCE WAS 9/16/09). THE HEADLAMP WAS REPLACED. ON 10/27/09, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLAMP. THE LAMP GOES OFF. TO REACTIVATE, THE HEADLAMP SWITCH IS TURNED OFF AND THEN TURNED BACK ON. HEADLAMP IS TO BE REPLACED ON 10/30/09. NHTSA CLOSED ACTION WITH TOYOTA A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO ON THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS STATED THAT BOTH BULBS WOULD NOT GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. AS A FORMER AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL, I SAY THAT THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE INDICATES THAT BOTH BULBS COULD GO OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THAT THIS CASE WITH TOYOTA SHOULD BE REOPENED. SINCE I DO NOT KNOW THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED ON THE REPLACEMENT LAMPS. *TR
BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OFF AT FREQUENT INTERVALS, BUT PRESENTLY IF I TURN THE SWITCH TOTALLY OFF AND BACK ON THEY COME BACK ON. RIGHT SIDE HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE LEFT SIDE ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY AS FAR AS TIMING. CAN HAPPEN AS SOON AS I START THE CAR AND NOT AGAIN FOR AN HOUR. AT TIMES AFTER TURNING THE SWITCH COMPLETELY OFF (NOT A REAL COMFORTABLE FEELING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD) AND ON THEY DO COME ON BUT GO BACK OFF WITHIN SECONDS AND IT HAS TO BE REPEATED. I PULL IN TO CHECK AND ALL THE LIGHTS ARE ON, SO THE BULBS ARE GOOD. IT ALSO IS AFFECTING THE HIGH BEAMS. THEY DO NOT WORK IF THE LIGHT HAS BLINKED OFF ONCE AND I HAVE TURNED IT BACK ON AND THEN TRY TO USE THE HIGH BEAMS. THEY WILL NOT WORK AT THAT POINT. IF I TURN THE HIGH BEAMS ON BEFORE THE HEADLIGHT HAS BLINKED OFF THEY WORK AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO SO THOSE BULBS ARE ALSO NOT BURNT OUT. THIS BLINKING OF LIGHTS NOW OCCURS DAILY. STARTED OUT HAPPENING EVERY SO MANY DAYS (I DRIVE 50 MILES TO WORK 4 DAYS A WEEK) AND NOW HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE EACH DAY. I NEVER KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL STAY ON AFTER RETURNING. DANGEROUS. *TR
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE TAKEN MY 2007 BACK TO THE DEALER FOR INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT FAILURE, WHILE DRIVING! ONE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT, OR BOTH WOULD GO TO WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE CREATING A POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THE DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, THEN ON OCTOBER 23 2009, THEY WERE FINALLY ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID I NEEDED TWO NEW HEADLIGHT UNITS AT THE COST OF $400 EACH (PARTS AND LABOR). I DECIDED TO DOCUMENT THIS POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA, SO YOU COULD ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE COMPLAINTS THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED IN ORDER TO PRESSURE TOYOTA MOTORS TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION. *TR
2007 PRIUS WITH 36K MILES, HID HEADLIGHTS. STOPPED BY POLICE WHO TOLD US THAT WE HAD BOTH A HEADLIGHT AND A TAIL-LIGHT OUT. THIS WAS ONLY A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER THE CAR PASSED STATE INSPECTION. UPON RETURNING HOME, FOUND THAT BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE WORKING BUT THAT TAILLIGHT WAS OUT. MY WIFE MENTIONED THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD BEEN TELLING HER FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS THAT THERE WAS A TAILLIGHT OUT ON THE CAR, BUT IT WAS ALWAYS WORKING WHEN WE CHECKED. THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE POLICE STOPPED US, I NOTED THAT ALL LIGHTS ON THE CAR WERE WORKING. TOOK CAR TO DEALER, WHERE THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A BULB ISSUE AND COULD REPLACE IF I WANTED. I COUNTERED THAT A BULB SHOULD EITHER WORK OR NOT, AND THAT THIS INTERMITTENT OPERATION SEEMED TO INDICATE AN ELECTRICAL OR WIRING PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALER DIDN'T AGREE. THE DEALER CHECKED ALL THE LIGHTS, AND FOUND THEM ALL TO BE WORKING. JUST AFTER RETURNING FROM THE DEALER, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND EXITING A HIGHWAY WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE SPED UP AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT AND PUSHED IT INTO TWO OTHER VEHICLES. *TR

COULD NOT TELL WHICH LIGHTS WERE OUT BECAUSE THEN THEY WOULD WORK. 2 NEAR MISSES WHEN OTHER DRIVER NOTICED MY HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT BUT DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC WAS ABLE TO DRIVE DUE TO OTHER DRIVERS LIGHTING. DRIVING THE OTHER NIGHT WITH FAMILY IN CAR AND LIGHTS WENT OUT COMPLETELY. PANICKED AND TURNED THEM BACK ON AND THEY CAME ON BUT STILL DIMMER. COMING HOME FROM WORK THE OTHER DAY AND THEN STOPPED BY POLICE IN WHICH I EXPLAINED MY HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS AND INFORMED THEM THAT MY PLANS WERE TO TAKE PRIUS TO DEALERSHIP. AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH MY FAMILY IN CAR THIS WAS MY FINAL STEP. TOOK 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS 10/20/09 TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ME REPLACING THE HEADLIGHT. OF COURSE AT MY COST. THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS OTHER THAN THE HEADLIGHTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. *TR
